"10 Years with GOT7.
Time flies as people always say. It's been 10 years since our debut and it's been almost 13 years since I first got to Seoul, Korea.
From an athlete to entering the fields of music and getting trained professionally. From a kid just starting his journey with curiosity to the man already walking 10 years down the road figuring out his artistry, artistry and he still walking...
From no one recognizing & appreciating the artistry to having a crowd that supports and believes in you.
Can't say nothing but "I'm too blessed" to be able to receive. I really want to say thank You to "JYP" entertainment & all staff for casting me and giving me the opportunity back then. Also helping me to grow through training huge fundemental part of me today! and it became a coincidence that happened back in school, when the casting team of JYP showed up and everyone in school left after exam. I was the one who stayed with a couple of friends that day when I should've went for fencing practice prepping for London 2012. Well, I guess the casting team didn't have much choice in that situation but to offer me the invitation to the audition. That's how it happened... I also want to thank Hee Wan for always supporting me through my hard times and tolerating the immature me back then as a kid. I want to thank Jimmy the CEO & J.Y. Park for guiding me through as seniors and as parents in the industry.
I want to say thank You to my members, for being the partners in the battle. Being the brothers since trainee days from nothing to traveling and performing. all around the world together.
I believe each member is focusing on their artistry now, and I hope for nothing but the best for them. Really glad and happy that we are able to show each of our individual colors and character as artists now.
I want to thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart, to every person that supports the group. Our crowd & fans.
I still remember the day of our debut showcase.
we were all riding that Auto electric Skateboard looking thing entering the venue during the intro of the show. It was around 50 people but it was definitely one of the most memorable show I did.
I also want to apologize to our fans for all the moments you worried. Sorry for the unpleasant moments and the negative experience that happened.
I'm sorry that there were a lot of times, random & miscomprehend things like gossips, issues about the stabilities of the group, all sorts of noises and scandals in the industry that were out in the industry affecting everyone's mood. Supports and fans deserve a good experience and I'm sorry for letting you all experience these kind of moments. There were a lot of precious memories from you all. I used to get a lot of "스니스니" from you all. Now that I'm almost "30" in a couple of months. As I age, I don't think anyone calls me that anymore. But the memory shows and pops up in my dream once or twice a year. haha. Not gonna lie...
I Love You all, the time you all spent with us was precious. I've always wanted to make our fandom and crowd proud, as a team, also as an individual I assume a lot of you are already in different industries/working in different fields already. I hope everyone can be happy and healthy. I hope everyone is able to find their standard of happiness in life.
That's all it matters. I'm also looking forward to what's next for us. without all of you, we won't be here today. None of this would ever happen, without you all.

As each year passes, I always feel that time really passes so fast. It's like that every year, but especially last year, I was so busy to the point where I don't even know how the time passed , and what I thought of most was how"! want to prove to Ahgases through my skills and music that their choice and love was not misplaced," and that" have to be a person that Ahgases can be proud of." I gave my all in practicing and worked hard.
Rather than words, I will show it through my actions, through my albums, and through performances, so please keep an eye out for it. When I think of you all, I get so overwhelmed that it's frustrating since I can't express it all through words. I am truly so thankful and love you with all my heart.
I want you all to always remember that the reason that I make music and perform on stage, the reason that I work hard practicing and live while doing the right things, the reason that I consistently work hard is you all. You have been my reason up until now, and you will continue to be my reason in the future until the end of my days.
In the future too, I will gain strength while thinking of you all, and work even harder to become an even cooler person. My Ahgases and GOT7, congratulations on our 10th anniversary! I sincerely hope that everyone stays healthy and that your days will be filled with only happy things. I love you~ 💚

Chaewon is so in love that just about anyone can tell so this is how she told the world
August 9th 2017- We are happy to announce that Chaewon Choi of HaZe is meeting someone with good feelings. The couple have asked to announce themselves properly in their own time please wait patiently for their official announcement. - SM
The camera was rolling, the lights looked good and the food was prepped now all that was needed was Chaewon and her boyfriend.
Chaewon stood in front of the camera, music playing lightly in the background - specifically a mix of HaZe and Got7. With a big grin she began.
“Hello everyone welcome to my kitchen. I am filming today for a big announcement. Okay so you kind of know the announcement anyway I’m in a relationship.” She said giddily. “I am very happy, we have been dating for-“
Chaewon looks behind the camera with her brows furrowed.
“A year.” A male voice sounds with a laugh.
“Yes a year. Thank you my love- anyway it’s actually our anniversary today.”
“So we are having our anniversary with you all.” He said again.
“Now you may be wondering why the love of my life isn’t on camera with me- it’s because I want to be dramatic, we all know how I am so now introducing the man I love, the man I plan to run away and marry- no babe you have no say in this- the man I will give my first born to….” Chaewon begins a drumroll with some chopsticks. “Mark Tuan or Got7!”
Mark let’s out a laugh as he appeared on camera by walking into frame. Giving Chaewon a half hug he presses a kiss to her cheek.
“Hi guys.” He says awkwardly. “I know this will be a surprise for many I kept this secret very hush hush.”
“You did good babe. After spoiling all our comebacks you’d think we would have told everyone after like a week of dating.” Chaewon said with a snicker. “Anyway welcome to my kitchen we will be making a salad because we can’t cook anything but ramen and noodles and we will answer some questions I’ve seen on my Instagram - Chaeee_1 it’ll be on screen - about our relationship.”
“Firstly I’m going to cut the carrots I don’t trust you with carrots.” Mark said pulling the chopping board closer to him.
“You throw one carrot at your partner and then they never trust you again I swear-“ she rolled her eyes. “First question, if this is true congrats but also how did you meet? Is he an idol or a normie?”
“We met at a live show. She had a whole Kdrama moment by running into me and it was like we slow-moed and boom our eyes met now she can’t get rid of me. Obviously I am an idol.” Mark nodded, giving his girlfriend a hip bump as she grabbed the grater and zucchini. “Next question- are you in love? Will you get married? Children? - this person is excited for our future more than us.”
“I sure hope we’re in love babe since I say I love you every five minutes.” Chaewon pouted. With a grin Mark poked her nose.
“I love you too don’t worry.”
“Yay!” She exclaimed while doing a little happy dance. “He loves me! Also marriage and children I guess are in the air still but uh- I would.”
“You would what?”
“Marry you I guess.”
“You guess? I take back all the romantic plans I have for 2018.”
“It’s only been a year I mean we don’t need to get married yet. It’s August 10th 2017 we have all the time in the world baby!” Chaewon says seriously as she put the zucchini in a bowl. “But I would say yes just for everyone’s knowledge.”
“Public or private proposal?” Mark asked with a laugh.
“I don’t care. You could make that carrot a ring and propose now. Though I think our bands would rather be in on it- gotta get that permission my love.” Chaewon joked. “I have one question- how did I get passed my dating ban? I guess it goes for you too. I didn’t really get passed it we just dated, faced the consequences when we told our companies after about three months of dating and here I am.”
“Same for me we just told the company and said look if it doesn’t work out no hard feelings but it’s working out amazingly and you can punish me if you want we aren’t breaking up- Not to say we had a terrible punishment it was just the most aggressive no one can know you are dating conversation ever:” Mark shrugged. “It’s fine now I think they appreciate our relationship as like a bridge between the companies or something.”
“Sounds right. I don’t see why idols can’t just date anyway like we are human, we deserve happiness too. And I for one am very happy.” Chaewon said giving her boyfriend a kiss. He grinned and kissed her back.
“Birdie the camera is on.”
“Oh shut up Tuan.”
The couple fell into a fit of giggles.
The video went on like that. As of August 9th 2017 SM had announced that Chaewon was dating and by the 11th the couple’s video had been uploaded and shared by all Duskies and Ahgase alike.
Some had wonderful things to say about the couple.
Some were less than wonderful.
But even still the couple has stayed strong even into 2021 when Got7 departed from JYP and moved on. Mark has gone back to LA to be with family for a while and it seems Chaewon has gone to visit- not for long as she has a comeback to prepare for.
Some fans have noticed however that as of April 2020 Chaewon has been seen wearing a very pretty copper ring.
Fans speculate it to be an engagement ring yet they have yet to announce anything about it.

WEEKLY ENCORE 2022 – Week 4 (January 24-30)
Greeting to my fellow ahgases!
We are already in the last week on January. Time sure does fly by, especially if you are an ahgase and it is GOT7s anniversary month.
Lets take a look what went on the final days of January 2022.
JayB had a physical release of an Ep. as Def. this week: LOVE came out on 26th. And in true Station Z move, they have arranged Def.s guesting on Jayb’s R&B. no you heard that right, Jaebeom guested on his own radio show.
And it was hilarious.
JayB acted as three different personas throughout the show, Bbomdi, Def and Jaebeom (guesting on phone). As a new artist Def seemed so nervous, he was quite and shy; a man of few words.
We noticed JayB’s Youtube account is now verified. Now I can’t say for sure when this happened, but it is definitely a nice update.
Our shy Mark was on Twitch Rivals this week. On Friday he played Among Us with quite a few big streamers. It was quite funny to watch him struggle as an imposter, not being able to lie to any of them. Apparently Mark had a hard time lying to them as he didn’t know them well enough. Interesting huh?
The games were fun, the other streamers were very nice and open to Mark. I can’t wait to see similar events in the future.
Mark apparently got his nails done too, we saw his new nail art on the nail artists Instagram photos. The look so pretty that it makes me want to try it too.
We got another picture of Mark from Director Park Jeongah this week. the lighting in this one gives me feelings. Mark looks so nice there.
We all know Jackson doesn’t know what rest means. And this week he continues to show this.
Thanks to Esquire we got to see Jackson’s accessory closet this time. It is just as impressive as his clothes collection.
This week there were preparations for the Chinese New Year performance he was going to be part of. He shared another episode of his “Know Me” series that shows the behind of his preparation for the Spring Festival Gala.
It was also revealed that Jackson is going to be part of a special music video for the winter Olympics theme song “for a shared future”. The music video includes quite a lot of important Chinese artists such as Jackie Chan and Andy Lau. A behind video was shared on Weibo.
We also got a story or two from Jackson, hinting that he is working on new music. Afterall he did promise one Chinese and one English album within this year, add GOT7 and Panthepack in the mix and woah. Jackson please remember to rest too.
Jinyoung started the week with teasing ahgases. He shared a story of himself in Distract’s studio with the caption that birds are curios what he’s working on. Well he definitely knows we have been speculating a lot.
Jinyoung’s Japanese Fan club continued the teasing with sharing a behind photo from The Devil Judge with the club members. The rest of us just cried in international.
But he quickly made it up to us with a short impromptu Instagram live. He even switched back and forth from Korean to English. Thanks to birdies we have the videos on YT if you want to check it out. One thing I will spoil is birds told him that Bambam spoiled the GOT7 comeback in which he replied Bambam is always making problems and trouble. Ah the never ending fun banter between the boys.
We also got to see Jinyoung in KSTyle’s 10th anniversary video. It is nice to see that he still remembers Japanese.
And lastly, this week marked the start of A Christmas Carol’s filming. Some ahgases ran into Jinyoung and the filming crew and shared a few pictures and videos with us. Talk about lucky!
We got to see him running around, shouting, and even with blood and bruise make up all over his face; Jinyoung seems to be switching between the twins quite frequently. Best of luck to him and the crew. it is not an easy story to tell.
Youngjae is still continuing as Daldi on Dream Radio, DJing everyday. He is giving us quite a lot of content with his daily 2 hour radio show, we even get to witness cute interactions between him and his family.
This week he also had Bambam as a guest. Needless to say it was fun and full of energy. They chatted about a lot of things, showed us the elevator trick once again and talked about how Hard Carry was one of their favourite GOT7 song. Very interesting that Hard Carry is being mentioned a lot lately, should I put on my clown mask?
Talking about GOT7, Youngjae asked Bambam what does he know, both of them trying to deflect that they know nothing at all about the comeback. Sure, not like we saw how Youngjae looked slightly panicked.
Youngjae also shared an old dog photo on twitter, which seems to be part of an exhibition of Saul Leiter. Ahgases were quick to jump on and teasingly ask him about Coco. Makes me wonder, how jealous is Coco?
Bambam continued with his promotions on the second week with live performances on music shows and radio programs. Apart from Daldi, he has been guesting with Wheein and Eunji, and with Kim Shin Young whom he’s known since pre debut. Do check them out, they were quote nice and fun.
The performances varied from Slow Mo to Ride or Die this week. Bambam and his dance team has formed a nice bond by now, it is very entertaining to watch them on stage.
We also got more dance challenge videos of him with other artists on backstage of music shows.
While busy with performances, Bambam also shared a reel of him with YSL. The video itself looked pretty cool, I wonder if Bambam edited it himself.
And Yugyeom. This week it looks like he worked hard on upping his ninja skills. Good job to our Maknae. However, we hear that you can get a glimpse of him if you visit his family restaurant Steak House.

Okay much better music than came out in October let me tell you lol. As usual no specific order.
1. Jeongmin - “Why”
I don’t know why this doesn’t have more recognition. I guess because people have just forgotten about Boyfriend and their members....please go love this song.
2. Hinapia - “Drip”
3. B.I.G - “Illusion”
So underrated, they also have an arabic version like what other group does that?
4. Got7 - “You Calling My Name”
Got7 has been hit or miss with me the past couple years [which makes me sad because I’ve followed them since their debut] but you can’t like everything i guess. But this song is AMAZING!
5. Lee Jin Hyuk - “I Like That”
He’s so talented...also I’m hoping his new found popularity will bring popularity to Up10tion too, along with help of Wooseok.
6. BVNDIT - “Dumb”
7. 1Team - “Make This”
8. Kim Yoon Hee - “Love Myself”
I think this song gives a good message, and it sounds so pretty. I think it’s an amazing song despite it having nearly no views.
9. Rainbow - “Aurora”
What an amazing 10th anniversary song. Also i’m confused on if this means they are rebanding or not.
10. Stray Kids - “Astronaut”
I mean do they even have any bad songs??
11. Eric Nam Ft. Marc .E. Bassy - “Congratulations”
Break up anthem for like EVERYONE from now on I hope lol.
12. IN2IT - “Ullala: Poisoning”
Underrated, honestly though their past songs have kinda been like “meh” “eh” but like this one is really good.
13. Woosung - “Beautiful Girl”
Okay technically from 2015 but this the 2019 version and Woosung redid and re-released it so it counts lol fight me. I can’t get enough of his beautiful voice. Plus it’s a great song.
14. Changjo - “Never Anything”
Underrated just like Teen Top has been the past several years.
16. ORLY - “Crush On You”
Underrated, and also just a really good song.
17. IU - “Blueming”
This is probably my favorite of all releases this month. I LOVE IT!

[The first song, the 2nd one in the video is their actual title track. But I liked this one better] Also they are so underrated, it’s sad.

I’ll be honest, first listen I didn’t like this. But after a second listen the composing of this is unique to me, and the different vocal tones and stuff fit together in this really unique way that I really enjoy. But also why are they so underrated. I though Hansol was popular.

Honestly I thought about taking this one off because I only usually do like 24 songs and I didn’t like this THAT much. But...it’s lowkey a bop for me so...I’m leaving it.

190612 The Ups and Downs of 10th Year Idols: 'The Idol of Idols' - How To Survive Like Shinhwa?
‘7-year Jinx’ or ‘7-year Curse’ is the term now all K-pop fans know. However, while this expression is familiar, it is uncomfortable at the same time. This is because most idol groups that reach the end of contract duration have naturally disbanded as most agencies follow the Fair Trade Commission’s standard of 7-year maximum for contract duration.
However, not all idol groups are like that. As the influence of K-pop has been growing recently, there are groups that survive for more than 7 years.
Debut in 2014, global idol group GOT7 was positive about renewing its contract in an interview for their mini album ‘Spinning Top’. In the interview, Jinyoung from GOT7 said “Now the ‘7-Year Curse’ is gone right? We never thought of going separate way even once.”
If that is the case, how is the status of idol groups that debuted in the early 2010s which now have reached their 10th year this year? SportsQ tried to look at their current status.
# 'The Idol of Idols' - How To Survive Like Shinhwa?
As if it feels like 10th year idol groups are hard to come by, there is a group that has been maintaining the team and performing for twice more the years.
Shinhwa, the boy idol group that SM Entertainment created in 1998 has been writing ‘legend’ in the music industry even till today. Their lifespan has exceeded 7000 days and they will reach 8000 days since debut next year.
Whenever idol members receive questions from reporters during showcases or interviews regarding performance duration, the senior group that they always mention like a ‘macro answer’ (t/n: auto-like answer) is ‘Shinhwa.’
Consisting of 6 members, the 22-year-old male idol group Shinhwa has been active since debut without a member withdrawal or substitution. Along with group’s activities, Eric and Kim Dong-wan have established their own successful acting career. Jun Jin and Andy have become more prominent and get closer to the public through big and small variety shows. Lee Min-woo, who is in charge of production, and Shin Hye-sung, the main vocalist, have continued their individual activities with their musical talents.
Unlike recent idol members, who appeal to certain generations, Shinhwa has been receiving love and attention from a wide range of audience as they continue to expand their range of activities. So, what is Shinhwa’s secret of longevity according to the people who are close to them?
An official from Shinhwa, Mr. J, responded with a smile to the reporter’s ‘obvious question’ by saying “Reporters always ask about Shinhwa’s secret of longevity whenever there is news about disbandment of idol groups.” The official also shared, “It is not true that there are fewer conflicts in Shinhwa. According to the members, they have had many fights and conflict of opinions but they said ‘How to resolve and make up after conflicts are important.’ They always have acknowledgement and trust among one another even if they don’t need to express or say anything.”
Just like Mr. J’s comments, fans also pointed out that Shinhwa has had quite a numbers of disbandment crises. The first crisis happened in 2003 when the contract with SM Entertainment came to an end. However Shinhwa unitedly got together and moved to a new company (Good Ent.). In the following year, 2004, they won Daesang for their title song from the 7th official album ‘Brand New’.
As the management was de-listed in 2011, Shinhwa experienced another disbandment crisis. However they continue on and established their own company, Shinhwa Company. Until now Shinhwa has been loved steadily due to their policy of prioritizing group’s activities while respecting individual activities.
The Shinhwa’s official, Mr. J, also said, “With Eric as the group’s leader, Shinhwa is a team that values the opinions of individual members. Eric does not talk a lot but he pays attention to the members’ stories and respects their individual thoughts. Other members contribute their own opinions and ideas but they tend to prioritize and follow leader Eric’s opinion at crucial moments.”
He explained “Lastly, the most important thing is that all members prioritize group’s activities first. They like to say that the 6 of them always fight with one another but they make up with mutual empathy, trust, and thoughtfulness without holding onto any hard feelings.”
At Shinhwa’s press conference for their 20th Anniversary Special Album ‘HEART’ in August last year, Kim Dong-wan expressed a light complaint saying “We are not just a group with longevity. Please look at our achievements and results.” However, the symbolism behind the time they have protected the group is more than just the numbers.
Even SMAP, a famous Japanese idol group which seemed to last forever, also disbanded after its 25th Anniversary in 2016. Isn’t it all fans’ wish for the idol members, who left strong memories like their first love, to remain idol forever? I wish to see more idol members continue to be active in the entertainment industry with good performances even if they are no longer in a group.

Best K-Pop Comebacks of 2017 (January-June)
As a connoisseur of k-pop, I stan many-a-group, and am fond of countless other groups’ music as well in the k-pop industry. When thinking back over the last several months, it has come to my attentions that this year has been amazing as far as comebacks go (so far). Though I am excited to see what the year brings in it’s second half, I’m going to list my favorites of 2017 (January-June).

It’s been a while since iKON has made a comeback, and I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE HOW MUCH I MISSED THEM UNTIL THIS HAPPENED. This song is fire. Such a jam. Definitely the most hype song of 2017 so far. Very Bang Bang Bang. YG just kills it when it comes to charisma on stage. All of them are so natural. P.S. Still not gonna call them their new stage names. Rookie - Red Velvet
Favorite girl group + catchy song + difficult choreo + killer vocals = HEAVEN. At first, I thought the song was a bit annoying/repetitive, but it definitely grew on me and has quickly become one of my favorite songs from their red concepts. To me, Seulgi stood out in this comeback (but I’m biased), but each of them look gorgeous and have improved SO MUCH (like YERI.... VOCALS WOW!) Can’t wait for their next comeback... Until then, I’ll just watch/listen to Rookie on repeat forever.

Cute dance. Cute clothes. Cute concept. I can’t help but love the girls of Twice! All of them look adorable in this comeback, particularly Chaeyoung and Mina. Their vocals are also improving a lot. I’m a proud ONCE and their hard work is paying off!

I remember when I found out that a co-ed group was debuting last year, I was ecstatic! They definitely did not disappoint me. They are able to create such unique concepts and this comeback was so fun to watch and gets stuck in my head 24/7. Love.

Beautiful - Monsta X
The first time I watched a Monsta X video, I remember saying, “Oh my gosh, he’s so cute. Okay he is too. WHAAAAAT?!?! ARE THEY ALL VISUALS?!?!?!?” Now they have a song with a name that encompasses these boys as a group. ;) What can I say? Their dancing rocks, Jooheon and I.M slay as rappers, and everyone else kills in this performance vocally and visually. And my bias Wonho is lookin’ incredible. Much wow. A+ boys.

PRISTIN - WEE WOO
Upon first listening to the song, I was not thoroughly impressed, but it quickly became one of those songs I just kept listening to, and before I knew it, I was hooked. I like Pristin. I can’t say I stan them yet, but I can see me getting to that point. At this point, my bias is Kyla, and she needs more love! They all slay. Yay Pristin!

TWICE - Signal
I know, Twice is back again. I already said some about them, but I had to mention this comeback because it is SO different from the rest of their songs... BUT I LOVE IT! Quickly fell in love with the upbeat and fun song and the dance (which has a lot of complicated parts compared to their other dances). LOVE LOVE LOVE TWICE!

Seventeen - Don’t Wanna Cry
I became a fan of Seventeen last year, as I was immediately captivated by their stunning choreography and charming stage presence. As I joined late and was super behind in the fandom, I learned a lot later on. Though I knew Hoshi had done choreography for the group before, when I read the article about him choreographing all of their songs, including their newest song, I watched this video and legitimately started sobbing. This is some of the best choreography in k-pop currently, and HOSHI NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION FOR BEING PERFECT AND SO INCREDIBLY GIFTED. I can’t express more love for this song and choreo. Wow. Just wow.

Sistar - Lonely
Sadly, this year, we are saying ‘farewell’ to the Queens of Summer, vocals, and visuals of k-pop. I will truly miss Sistar’s stunning performances and the amazing ride it has been being their fan. Truly legends. I don’t know how to express my thanks, but you mean so much to your fans, Hyolyn, Dasom, Bora, and Soyou. #SistarForever

GOT7 - Never Ever
If you’ve been here before, you know I would never forget my babies GOT7. Aghases seem to be scarcer than they used to me, but GOT7 has been one of my favorite groups since the beginning. This year has been an amazing one for comebacks, but Never Ever left me in awe of this spectacular group. From the stunning improvement by the rappers, to the complex choreography, to their overwhelming charisma and stage presence, this comeback only reaffirmed my love for these boys. Honestly, every time I choose a bias, my list is completely destroyed. I don’t think I’ll ever keep a bias in GOT7, but I am strangely okay with that. Keep slaying, my boys.

Hey Inspirits, can we talk about INFINITE’s contract renewal?
So I woke up kind of emotional today, and I really want/need to know other peoples opinions about this to maybe calm myself down? Try to cope with it? Idk
Since 2017 started I’ve been on edge about INFINITE disbanding, considering that their 7 year contract with Woollim ends in June. I’ve been an Inspirit since their debut in 2010, and they’ve helped me so much thus far in my life, and seeing the prospect of them disbanding this year just makes my heart break in a million pieces and show how unready I am to let go of them. So, I’ve been trying to think about motives on why they would or wouldn’t disband, and I can’t make up my mind, so I wanna know what the rest of the fandom thinks, if any of you want to talk about it.
So shall we discuss? :3 (like really, if anyone wants to talk about it, let’s talk ;;)
1) They’ll renew their contract and continue on: I don’t doubt for a second that the boys all have amazing relationships between themselves and that they like each other a lot, which is one of the motives some groups disband when the opportunity shows up.
I also think that for a group that has been 7 years into the game all the boys have pretty strong individual activities, and none of them feels ridiculously mistreated by their company or left behind, which is another pretty strong reason why groups disband (4minute aka Hyuna and the others) or some members leave the group (L.joe wanting to act and have a solo but TOP Media only concentrating on Niel’s solo career) - Sunggyu has his musical actor career, his solo career and his mc career; Woohyun has his subunit career (you never know, we might get a Toheart comeback, who knows), his solo career and his acting career (he hasn’t done much and some movies he did were cancelled but it’s not like Woollim hasn’t ever got him work on that field, and I believe he can pursue that if he wants); Dongwoo has his subunit career (quite popular at that) and his musical actor career; Howon has his subunit career (again, quite popular) and his acting career (that is doing really well); Sungyeol has his subunit career and his acting career (he could get more projects nowadays, I agree, but I’m sure that can be arrenged, he has acted in quite some dramas in the past); Myungsoo has his subunit career, his acting career (we all know how we don’t have to worry about this one) and even a kind of photography career? With the little projects and photo albums he has released; and Sungjong has his subunit career and his somewhat variety show career (you know, when he went to Real Men and the jungle and all that; he is the one that worries me the most about being unsatisfied with his solo management alongside Sungyeol, but he’s the maknae, he’s still quite young and has a long time to strive for other things).
They’ve showed how much they love being together as INFINITE inumerous times already and how they seem to enjoy what they do. The most recently one was in INFINITE Rally 3 where they extended the whole thing by like 2 hours (or that’s what the fanaccounts that I read talked about). They also work really hard as a team, not really going more than 6 months of hiatus as an entire group - they’re always either in Korea, in Japan or doing showcases and concerts around Asia or around the world. If you look at their discography, there isn’t a single year they haven’t released a new CD in Korea since 2010, and that’s quite difficult to find, be it new groups, old groups, popular groups, flopped groups. Which also shows how Woollim puts effort in managing them. They’ve also had a pretty fair amount of reality shows of their own (Sesame Player, Birth of a Family, Ranking King, This is Infinite, Infinite Showtime) and special episodes in established TV programs (Weekly Idol, Beatles Code and all of that). And considering they’re a group that is older than a lot of groups still active in the industry nowadays, they’re always either coming together or individually on V app every now and then, and their V app channel is only behind some pretty strong groups’ channels like Big Bang (the kings nowadays), EXO and BTS (the fever of the moment, as we all know), GOT7 iKON and TWICE (the new generation’s sweethearts that everyone loves), company v apps SM Town and YG Family (which is not fair to compare because those two channels are made of lots of groups?) and APINK (they’re the only ones that are not company v apps or the fever/the new blood of kpop that is on top of INFINITE channel so way to go APINK!!!).
Also, considering they’ve 1 to 2 years more until they all start having to go to the military service, and they’ve only 3 years until their 10th anniversary mark, one might think they would at least want to stick around as a group for that amount of time? Especially considering that if they want to concentrate more on individual aspects of their careers, they can do that when this military period starts, because it’s going to take some years until all of them are discharged from it and back again as 7.
And last but not least, they’ve been consistent for the past 7 years, and that’s not something to take lightly. They’re always winning awards each year, they always manage to get wins on music programs, their albums and concerts sell well and their solo/subunit adventures are quite successful. And I like to think that, as they say, you don’t change a winning team. I keep asking myself: why would they disband when they still like each other, they each have solo activities and no one feels really left behind, their group is still going strong and being sucessfull and the fandom supports them a lot?
But here comes the second option:
2) They’ll not renew their contract and go their separate ways: Now, why would they do that if it’ll not be because the members don’t get along or because they’re completely unsatisfied with their management?
Well, recently I’ve been through the follow situation: I was in a job in which I hated some aspects of it and it made me really stressed and unhappy, but at the same time there were lots of awesome things about it that made me want to keep doing it for a long time, alongside some great coworkers and lots of things to learn. My contract with this job was going to be expired in January, and I kept thinking: should I renew the contract and see up to where I can still handle the stress and unhappiness or should I take this opportunity, not renew my contract and try going to a different path (my boss had already offered the renewal to me)? I thought about all the things that I learned, all the happy moments I had as well as what else was there to learn, the stressful moments I had and reached the following decision: I didn’t not renew my contract and left my job. And that’s exactly what I think might happen to INFINITE.
They’ve been together for 7 years, which is a really long time. Think about yourself 7 years back. How much have you changed? How much has your life changed? Have you done the same thing for the past 7 years? Do you think you could handle doing something for more than 7 years? So yeah, INFINITE has been together for quite some time and they’ve learned and enjoyed a lot together. But all of them are already in their mid/late 20s, and maybe they want a change of pace. maybe they want to concentrate in individual activities and other dreams more, and the group being active would kind of get in the way of that. It’s not that they wouldn’t enjoy still being together, but maybe their priorities have changed with time, or they know want to give other priorities more attention. That’s a normal part of life, you know. And as much as I’ve said earlier that they can concentrate on their individual paths once their military period starts, since they’ll all probably go at different times and it’s going to take some years before they’re back again as 7, maybe they don’t want to way until then. As I’ve learned with my job experience, sometimes there comes a time when you know you can still profit and be happy in a certain situation for a little while longer, but you don’t wait for that time to expire. You just want to jump to new beginnings and new prospects, without fully draining all you can from your previous situation.
Which also reminds me how different the boys are and how they’ve had different things in mind even before debuting. The biggest example of that is Sunggyu - he wanted to be a main vocal for a rock band, not exactly a singer for a boygroup. Also, he has said a couple of times that he doesn’t like dancing too much. So I’ve been thinking he might want to leave the whole dancing-idol thing aside after 7 years of it. I don’t want to think like that, but it’s a possibility. Also, I feel like the members want to explore other things that they haven’t been to as a group (because of Woollim or not), like being more active in composing and having a more heavily saying in the production of their albums. Howon has already mentioned how they aren’t as integrated in the album making as they would like to be (Dongwoo did write to rap part of One Day from their last mini album Infinite Only as we could see in the behind the scenes footeage and all that, and Woohyun did compose “Together” for their Grow movie, but that’s only a little part of the whole process), and I believe that as time passes, that keeps adding more weight to their decisions.
Another thing that kinda scares me and gives me the vibes that they might be disbanding is the whole contract renewal announcement. We’re only 3 months away from the expire date and no one has said anything about them talking to Woollim about renewing or anything (although there hasn’t been news of any of the boys talking to other companies on their own, that I know of). Lots of groups don’t wait for their contract to get so close to the expire date before they renew (like CNBLUE, TEEN TOP and Girl’s Day did). So I keep thinking: what are they waiting for??? Are some of them still unsure about renewing so they’re waiting for each other to make a decision? Are they waiting for something to happen before they decide??
And one last thing: I was beyond happy when they announced they would be having a comeback in May. It’s one of my greatest joys to know that one of my favorites groups ever is confirmed for a comeback, and so soon too (and on my birthday month!). But then I saw a post saying how this might be their goodbye stage and I automatically thought: holy shit, they could do that. I totally see them doing that, it’s their style. They wouldn’t suddenly leave us. They would give us one last gift more parting on good terms. And May is the month before June, when their contract ends. Shit guys, I’m really scared about it.
(Oh! There’s also the possibility that they won’t renew with Woollim, but will all move together to another company like Block B and BEAST/HIGHLIGHT did; I think the boys like Woollim and their CEO a lot, but there’s always a possibility. But in this case I don’t really care tbh lol As long as they’re happy and together as INFINITE, I don’t care to which label they’re signed; and if they do go to different paths I’ll support all of them, of course, but not having INFINITE as a whole making music is going to break my heart ;;).
I’m sorry that this was such a huge ass post, but I really needed to get all this off my chest and I really want to discuss it with other fellow Inspirits and see what you all think. :3
