Slovakia will most likely vote against Basque, Catalan, and Galician becoming official languages of the EU.
Their reasons:
1) Each EU country can only have 2 official languages at the EU, Spain asks for 4.
2) Only languages that are official in the whole country can be taken into consideration for officiality.
As usual, the dream was short-lived 😩😩😩

Please reblog for a bigger sample size!
If you have any fun fact about Galicia, please tell us and I'll reblog it!
Be respectful in your comments. You can criticize a government without offending its people.
Info: Galicia is not a country. The blog is open to non-country polls now. In this case, it refers to the region in Spain.

Se xa é difícil atopar comunidades galegofalantes en sitios propios da Galiza, o problema que estou a ter para atopala nesta rede social tan anglocentrista non hai por onde collelo. Simplemente quero mutuals galegofalantes de maneira regular :(

I'm sharing a petition to have Galician words being accepted in the EU.
Galician is already spoken in the European parliament through the Portuguese interpreters, however the Galician politicians try to use the Portuguese from Portugal dialect since it's the one accepted. This petition exists so that even though they're still considered the same language as Portuguese they get to have their language variety recognised, similar to German from Germany and German from Austria.
This is the English version. Here's the Galician-portuguese version, that has more information and a Q&A.

So the EU has decided to postpone the discussion regarding the petition so that Basque, Catalan, and Galician become official EU.
Some countries consider including 3 languages at the same time is too much and Spain in an attempt at negotiation has agreed to prioritize Catalan.
I really thought they were pushing for the whole lot. Basque is a vulnerable language. This is all just a fucking shame.
It's clear that for the Spanish state we Basques are second class among the second class people.
