What’s inspiring me right now is all the folks who speak up and are a microphone for the marginalized and oppressed whose voices are silenced every day. I’m also moved by the resilience of all indigenous people and the love for their land. Grateful for the freedom to move around when others are limited and their basic needs are taken away by imperialist fascist oppressive systems built by design.”

Reasons Every DS Harvest Moon Game Could Use a Remake

DS/Cute: Collectathons in general have been immensely underserved, and this one is even a life sim with other things to do! Also it’d be nice to have a version of this game that isn’t inclined to delete every NPC from your save file if you look at it funny.

Island of Happiness: But, like, could you imagine if this game had an actually functional control scheme?

Sunshine Islands: Another collectathon, this one not closely related to something that was remade recently. Also has an interesting hidden skill-progression system.

Grand Bazaar: This game is so niche that despite owning a copy I still have to actively remind myself that it’s real. Which is a shame, the bazaar system is fun. I bet a lot of people don’t even know Dirk and Amir debuted here.

Tale of Two Towns: Look, it’s on two systems already. Why not expand that a little more?

I'm like half asleep as I'm writing this, and I have this sagau idea in mind but my brain isn't conscious enough to write those deep poetic words, ANYWAYS.

Spoilers for Nilou's story quest!

You know how the Akademiya always wants the Grand Bazaar to shut down? Nilou and an akademiya scholar debate about the Bazaar's demolition (which Nilou won.) Let's say, that the Akademiya doesn't back off that easily, they take it to another step.

Ask the god!reader their opinion.

Since the Akademiya's view on the reader is like: Oh divine wisdom judgement so cool or smth like that, they think the reader will on be on their side.

But reader is a theatre kid.

-cue reader threatening to burn the akademiya if they demolish the grand bazaar-

You were beyond annoyed. You were furious. Seething even.

“So, let me make sure I’m understanding this properly. You want me to decide whether or not the Grand Bazaar should be demolished?”

“Y-Yes your grace! S-Surely your vast wisdom can deliver a fair ruling! Is not the pursuit of knowledge more important than some frivolous pointless venue?”

Your smile turned from genuine to strained in an instant.

“Sorry, what was that last part?”

The scholar paled a bit and stuttered out his previous words again. The acolytes standing next to you visibly cringed at the look in your eyes. You slowly stood, showing how serious you were. The smile on your face was bright, but cold.

“I see…”

“Tell me, have you ever spent time pursuing the arts?”

“W-W-Well n-no but-”

“Then why, pray tell, do you come to me asking for my verdict when you cannot even be bothered to try to look past your own biases?!”

You were practically shaking with silent fury, angry tears threatening to pool in your eyes at the thought of so many artists losing their passion place. You could hardly bear the thought of your old theater being destroyed, let alone one that reached far beyond what your school’s theatre program ever could.

“…Very well. You came for my verdict, so I shall give it regardless.”

“I’d sooner see the entire Akademiya annihilated than ever allow you to so much as scratch the paint of the Grand Bazaar, is that clear?”

I was listening to the Grand Bazaar soundtrack and like, every single song is a delight imo (even the opening, even if I know its a traditional Christmas song haha).

Also, I know a lot of people dislike the cutesy chibi artstyle of older HM games but it's actually something I really like... The art style of GB in particular is one of my favorites because everything is so cute and shiny and adorable. Everyone looks like a little doll (except probably the mayor). To me, the art style made the game really stand out as the cutest HM of all and I think it enhances the fairytale/storybook aesthetic this game had in particular. For many other reasons, Grand Bazaar is probably my favorite of the DS Harvest Moons.

The 18th of December is the 14th anniversary of the Japanese release of Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar! Here are the wallpapers from the official website to celebrate. So cool that the website is still up, even if the left side is now nothing more than a broken plugin. RIP, Flash...

This one is my favorite of the original DS era. I loved the design of the two protagonists (and used official art of the female protagonist as my icon for a long, long time), and I found the whole bazaar aspect of the game to be a lot of fun. Would absolutely love to see their outfits as a clothing choice in a new game or remake someday...

I think the most unnecessary 'realism' addition in any farming sim is Harvest Moon Grand Bazaar deducting points from your crops' star quality if you step on them.

First, if you don't want people stepping on their plants, just making them impassible has worked in most games previous.

Second, the goal is to get a lot of sellable product for the bazaar, which is the actual main point of this particular game. Artificially limiting how many squares we can plant on feels like it's just dragging things out.
