Text
Perfect take on Zoro. Perfectly executed by Mackenyu.
The way EVERYONE is trying to have him work for them. Mr 7, I'm here with an invitation. Captain Morgan, Join the marines or you'll die tied to a cross.
Luffy, sets him free, doesn't force him to join, let's him go, let's Zoro decide where he wants to be;
And Zoro finds out that place is by Luffy's side. Ain't that beautiful?

Straw Hats Ranked on how important being a pirate is to them
10. Zoro
He went from pirate hunter to pirate and it didn’t even cause any kind of internal crisis. His past with pirates is basically negligible, he wasn’t raised by any or befriended any until he met Luffy. He joined the straw hats first as a way to achieve his dream faster, then out of loyalty to the crew and to Luffy and particular. But being a pirate? He’s neutral to that, most likely. He is that now and he doesn’t think about it more than that.
9. Nami
She started out with a very negative view of pirates because of the way she was traumatized by them. None of her friends or immediate family were pirates, so she had no positive emotional connection to them prior to meeting Luffy. So unlike Zoro, who has 0 emotional connections to piracy, she does have one even though it isn’t a positive one. Nami taking on the role of pirate is thus very meaningful as her view on them has changed, and as a result, what it means for her to be one. However, I don’t think she has any particular need to hold onto that title in her personal goals.
8. Franky
Like Nami, Franky initially starts with a negative view of pirates because of his pirate parents abandoning him, and he rejects offers to join pirate crews prior to meeting Luffy. However, I don’t think he hated them to the same extent that Nami did, and hated the world government a lot more. His mentor, Tom, was also allied to and worked with pirates (Gold Roger), and Franky’s ultimate goals very much rely on the freedom that piracy provides. I think Tom is the deciding vote here in placing his importance to the “pirate” title above Nami.
7. Robin
Robin, like Zoro, didn’t have any particular emotional connection to the title of pirate in her childhood, as she didn’t know any pirates during her time in Ohara and only really saw the marines and world government as villains in her life. When she became wanted at age 8 she joined a pirate crew out of necessity before getting kicked out, and later making her way to Baroque Works. So I think being a pirate was her only available option to survive and she saw the role as just that. After joining Luffy and after Water 7/Enies Lobby in particular I think the need to live & travel & find joy in adventure ended up meaning a lot more to her. So I think her association with the pirate title is slightly above the other three mainly based on the newfound context it provided in her life.
6. Sanji
I think Sanji is the first person here who had a loved one that was a pirate before becoming one himself. Sure, his first encounter with Zeff probably turned him off pirates a bit but that resolved itself pretty quick after Zeff sacrificed so much for him. He also interacted with pirates all the time at the Baratie in order to feed them and found a lot of personal satisfaction in feeding hungry pirates. So I think mainly based on Zeff’s pirate past and his job in feeding them, Sanji generally saw pirates in a more positive light and it’s probably meaningful to him to have the same job that Zeff did. On top of that, the freedom the piracy represents contrasted with the prison of the Vinsmoke family means he really values what piracy can provide for him.
5. Brook
We don’t really know Brook outside of piracy, and I think that says a lot about how much he values being one alongside of being a musician. Brook’s whole life and death have all been taken up by being a pirate, and it was pirates who saved his afterlife after he’d been stuck in thriller bark for so long. All his loved ones also seem to be pirates too. It seems he has nothing but positive associations with piracy and very much sees himself as one and nothing more, and it’s a core part of his identity but not necessarily one he thinks about constantly.
4. Jinbe
Jinbe’s emotional connection to piracy I think is very much tied to his reasons of initially joining under Fisher Tiger & the Sun Pirates. It’s pretty clear to me that joining that crew represented freedom & equality for Jinbei, especially under the tutelage of Fisher Tiger. In my opinion Jinbe connect being a pirate directly to his & fisher tiger’s goals of providing freedom and equality to the Fishmen, and therefore being one is very important to him because it is directly tied to his dream. His loved ones also all seem to be pirates, even though he didn’t start his life being one or being connected to them. Gaining leadership roles & warlord titles also I think indicate that he also takes pride in being a pirate specifically.
3. Chopper
I placed Chopper above Jinbe here because while they both place being a pirate in very high regard, I think Chopper got there sooner just by virtue of when he actually encountered pirates & pirate symbolism. I think Chopper’s emotional connection to piracy is a bit more intense than Jinbe’s because of his specific experience and how young he was when he encountered it. To him, piracy was directly connected to Dr. Hiriluk, and he was so certain that the skull & crossbones of the pirates were a good thing that the poison symbol to him meant safety. Even the symbolism of piracy carries emotional weight for Chopper, and Luffy protecting the pirate flag for him is what wins him over completely. Piracy, through Dr. Hiriluk, saved his life and gave him personhood and he very clearly places it in the highest regard.
2. Usopp
Usopp gets placed above Chopper here but only just. Like Chopper, Usopp’s emotional connection to piracy is also family based: Yasopp’s job as a pirate is a great source of pride and love for him. He is fiercely protective of the role of pirates as a result and won’t hear anything negative about them, and about his dad in particular. Because if pirates are bad guys it means his dad is one too, and he absolutely will not accept that. This also means that he’s wanted to be a pirate his whole life as a way to emulate his dad, so piracy has been a goal ever since he could conceive of one. He also places over Chopper here because unlike Chopper, his dream (brave warrior of the sea) is also directly connected to being a pirate, so it’s a one two punch if emotional connection through family and also through his dream.
1. Luffy
Being a pirate is everything to Luffy. It’s the beginning and end of who he is and what he wants and all he loved. It defines his dream and has been the driving force of everything he does ever since he was a child. It is everything that he is, the freedom of it and the journey of it and the reason he met all his dearest friends and family. Luffy is piracy, he is not Luffy without it.

luffy ( @kaizckuou ) says ...
🐈 Lean against my muse’s side // n this one's luffy too let's zZZ lmao
low hums can be heard throughout the ship, drifting from the main deck’s greenery to behind the orange bushes and the flowers that sits nearby, from within the kitchen alongside the sizzle of a pan, from right next to him all along the tune of brook’s violin, a mellowed version of the popular pirate song that became a prominent signature for the straw hats.
moments like these are a spur of a moment thing. there are days where even the most talkative gets a little sick of talking and retreat back to where they’re most comfortable working, resting or jump starting a new project and the rest follows suite, empathizing with the necessity of a break. so the ship becomes quiet, chattering slowly dissipates with the day as each crew mate found their space to lounge. the quietness seems to always alarm the straw hat’s musicians though and not long, there’d be a soothing tune matching the time of day, performed to ease whatever tensions their crew mates might bear.
where they’re at right now, the sun’s on the edge of                        disappearing behind the horizon, sky shimmering with                        colors that don’t pique the interest of the swordsman,                        but the atmosphere is something he’s able to take in                        with the pink and purple.
he chose to spend the quiet day away from his weights for just a bit and made himself comfortable near the helm instead. his presence was caught by luffy quickly, his bored captain heading near within seconds, seated and then belting a big yawn. brief conversation, lasting barely a minute and ruffling of raven locks til comfortable silence fell between them and returns the continuous sereneness before luffy eventually joins the rest of them in humming.
pleasant, he thinks. for most of zoro’s life, the environment tend to be more quiet, close to silent than not ... being a lone wolf made him used to it. even when he still resided within the dojo, when lessons weren’t in session, he’d travel to a more reclusive area, far from his classmates and further from the teachers. continuing onwards, the rest of his journey as a pirate hunter was lonesome and meant to be lonesome as he held no interest in noisiness. he set out with a goal in mind, one he could only accomplish with focus. such experiences changed when he first came face to face with the rubber boy and a dedicated vow at the end of his sword, a flush of vibrancy that becomes the norm from then on.
it brings times of peace and quiet as a rarity and nostalgic almost.
a thump lands against his shoulder and he peeks at the corner of his eye towards a sleepy luffy, his eyes already shut but hint of consciousness in the low and soft hum that still continued.
he realized he doesn’t retain a preference for the quiet, solitude hours anymore. there’s a home in the loud, contagious laughter, yelling across the deck and physical tackles from the straw hat’s special version of tag. it’s his home.
he can hear all of them clearly and knowing they’re there,                         hearing them, hearing his captain, eases him slowly, his                         head slowly knocks against luffy’s and rests, eye drifting shut.
with them, he lies off guard and comfortably, knowing there’s no need to be weary when they’re there with him.

Chapter Characters: Corazon, Doflamingo, Law, (Baby 5, Buffalo) Pairing: (eventual) LawLu Rating: M Warnings: Vampire AU, (Mostly) canon compliant, Angst, Survivor Guilt, Blood, (Kinda) drug use/addiction, dependency, child grooming, child abuse, abusive relationship, major character death (Other warnings may be added) A/N: Well. I made one part of this story less feelsy....
Except I then proceeded to make the ending far more worse than it originally was. Ooops.
Also all the love to @oturai who is an amazing sounding board for ideas~ Thanks for your help. Helped me flesh out a few more things for this story. AND she’s beta-ing~
Also!!!!!! Just so I do not overwhelm you guys, I add in world-building facts as they become relevant. Don't feel afraid to ask. If it isn't a spoiler I'll probably answer the question :D. I just don't like just plopping a bunch of world-laws all in one text dump. Because a) you may not recall all of it if I give it to you all at once and b) it's boring af to read through that shit. XD.

Prologue || Chapter 1 || Chapter 2
From what I could tell, my brother had turned his most loyal subjects. The ones who found him. The ones who convinced him to kill our father.
And, of course, turning them was not an overly concerning issue. Not in the grand scheme of things. But, he did keep it secret. In fact, he hid behind the charade he had created for us:
We had found an old ruin containing a stash of vials that had not been exposed to the air.
And so, he had used those vials to make us stronger. And, my brother had leftover vials that he had kept. Vials that he would grant to those who proved an undying loyalty to him. Vials were hard to come by, after all.
(Of course, not many knew the truth. And, even from what I could tell, only those original four had known the full truth. Any others who found out due to my brother turning them only thought him a ranked vampire, and not a full breed. Vials, to us, were hardly a barrier. We could make them at any time to prove his story true. In fact, I am very certain he has them, stored somewhere to backup his story. My brother is very meticulous, if anything.)
Perhaps that was why this cursed child came to us. Why he sought us out, of all pirates, to pledge his loyalty to. To have us assist him with his revenge. Maybe he hoped to be injected, just like my brother’s executives had been, supposedly. That – or… well, we were one of the most powerful pirate crews in the North Blue...
(Of course, that was merely because we had two purebloods, and plenty of rank 1 vampires turned by my brother himself.)
Looking at this human child, however... it was eerie. It reminded me of things that I would rather be left in the past. Memories I hid away, but never truly forgot.
This human child, the one driven by vengeance... he reminded me of my brother. All those years ago. The pureblooded vampire who killed his father for the mere action of trying to live amongst those lesser than him.
(Part of me couldn’t help but wonder. Did he use our father’s blood as our charade? Did he have Homing’s blood in vials in a fridge somewhere... to use as proof of our injector status? Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past him. Doflamingo was an egotistical bastard. Of course he wouldn’t use his own blood unless he had to...)
And, frankly, I do believe my brother saw the same thing I did. That, upon looking at this human child, he saw a reflection of his past. And perhaps that was why he kept this child. Fostered him and trained him... Even though this human was doomed to die.
But - merely because of that. Because this child would die, I didn’t worry. Why should I worry about a potential threat if it was only to die in a short period of time, anyway?
.xxx.
Of course, despite that, I did encourage the children to leave. Baby 5, Buffalo, and the new one. I tried to show them rejection. I challenged their abilities. Pushed them away. All in hopes that they would leave. Leave and become respectful citizens of the world.
Of course, it never worked.
No, they were set on remaining in this faux family that my brother created.
If I was honest, I think they would have made good marines. Just... except my brother had gotten his hands on them first. He had a knack for attracting those who had bad pasts. Drawing them in with the promises of happiness and acceptance. Of protection and support. To give them just exactly what they had lacked.
He attracted the trash. Attracted them and lured them in.
And I knew. I knew all too intimately just what those promises did to a person.
Sengoku had made the very same promises to me.
There was a reason why Doflamingo picked this trash pile as his headquarters.
He wanted humans. Humans desperate for a change in their lifestyle. Humans who had been neglected and rejected by the marines and vampires.
The marines, or should I say: the government’s loyal guard dogs.
(I also knew just how literal that phrase was. At least among the higher ranks...)
Of course, the marines were full of vampires. Humans, too. Those loyal to the government and their cause. Or humans who opposed the vampire hunters known as pirates or revolutionaries. Many humans who, upon promotions, were either turned, or at the very least, were offered an injection if they wished to remain human.
My brother attracted the darkness in mankind. And he abused it.
That was one of the reasons I had returned to his side.
I knew my brother was planning something. Something to upset the very nature of our world. He wanted to disrupt the hierarchy. Making high ranked vampires, where there were few. Creating injectors when they were a rarity. He was plotting something. Something bad.
Sengoku did not approve.
Of course he didn’t. He saw just how affected I had been after witnessing my brother murder our father in cold blood.
Perhaps I was what my father wanted. A pureblood child able to empathise with the mortals. Able to understand and support them. My brother, however, had lived too long amongst the purebloods. He had been tainted, per se, by them. Learned to live like them. Act like them. And, with the negativity that had greeted us... it had only emphasised his hatred towards the humans.
My brother thought himself superior. A god.
And, it was my job to stop him. I was the only person he would trust within his family. Not to mention... well...
The more pure blood there was around, the better.
And now, now I observed. I observed as he trained and tutored this doomed child. Law, they had called him. Trafalgar Law.
The lone survivor of Flevance.
Just - why? I could not understand. Perhaps it was to show the other children that, no matter your fate, he would help you. Perhaps it was a show. An example.
Another reason for them to follow and revere him.
My brother sickened me.
Almost as much as seeing that look in Law’s eyes. The look that reminded me of those moments before my brother shot our father.
It only spurred on my motivation further.
.xxx.
Law was the oddest child of the group. Death-doomed or not.
Because, well... he was one of the weakest. Baby 5 had come from a mother who abandoned her because of the scarcity of food. Buffalo had come from origins just as sad. They had both survived on scraps. Digging through garbage cans.
And, in the process, they had apparently pricked themselves on discarded syringes.
Syringes in which remained a small amount of blood. Syringes that had changed them. Empowered them.
These children were injectors. Not by necessity or desire, but merely by accident.
But Law? Law was nothing. A plain human child only driven by vengeance. A desire to make those pay just as he had. Make them pay while he still breathed life. While he still survived. Because his time was limited and scarce. Soon, his sickness would get the better of him and he would succumb to the pain his family and country had.
Perhaps, in an alternate universe, this child would have become a great doctor who saved many a lives. But in this one, he had become a homicidal teenager. A being that used his medicinal knowledge to the detriment of others.
All because somebody had decided that his illness was contagious, when it was not.
And every time I looked at him, I was only reminded of my own mission: to stop my brother before he enacted his plan.
Both of us, it seemed, had time limits...
.xxx.
Months turned into years and I watched as the disease slowly ate away at this human.
Which was why, when I saw him getting better - stronger - I became concerned. Suspicious, even. I know my brother had mentioned that he would look out for Law. That he would try and find a cure for him while he remained here, but...
Well, to be frank, the only cure that I could think of was turning the child.
Of course, that was not remotely an option. Once a human was turned, their lifespan increased dramatically. They aged at a much slower rate.
And, with that being said, nobody turned children.
Not the purebloods, who were above the law, turned children slaves. Not the ranked, who were born as and gave birth to humans. Turning a child - it was the ultimate taboo.
To turn a child, a person at the age where development was timely and key... it could do irreparable damage to them. They also did not have the proper... morals to survive in this environment. It hindered their development. Slowed it. It extended their puberty process from a mere five years to at least fifty. And growing children hungered more than any adult would.
It was torture. Torture and...
The world would not easily be able to sustain many children vampires.
That was why the noble ranked vampires waited until their children’s eighteenth birthdays to turn them. Why anybody who was a candidate for turning had to wait until they were adults.
Of course, Law was only a child. A child who, quite simply, did not have enough time. He would die before adulthood. Thirteen, was what he had said. He wanted to kill as many people in the next three years before his time was up, which was somewhere between his thirteenth and fourteenth birthday - if he was lucky. That was what his father’s notes had said.
Pirates or not, even I knew that my brother was not above that law.
(Not only would a child vampire be high maintenance for a crew filled with vampires - if the world government ever found out... well, Sengoku didn’t need my assistance to find a reason to permanently rid the world of my brother.)
And so - how? I was baffled. Baffled at just how this human child - who should be encumbered by his progressing illness - was moving faster. Was getting stronger. Was... progressing as any other normal human should be. It just... was inconceivable. He should be dying, not thriving.
If Doflamingo had found a cure, I knew I would have found out one way or another. The children would be celebrating. It would be broadcasted... something. So... just what was it? From what I had heard, the disease never did seem to let up, even in the final stages. It only ever worsened until the inflicted could no longer move or feel....
It only made me wonder if the path I chose with the children was wrong. Should I have been bonding with them instead of pushing them away? Should I have been offering my ear and my smiles? Should I have been happy and supportive?
Perhaps, then, Law would have indulged me in just what was going on with him...
.xxx.
It had been a few weeks before I had begun figure out just what was going on.
My brother was off on one of his missions. He said it was too dangerous for the children. That he had to look after his family, after all. And he was quite insistent that I remained behind to defend the children. (Part of me worried that maybe, just maybe, he suspected me. That he thought I was the reason the marines were hot on our tails. That they always seemed to know just where we were.)
It caused a momentary panic, but I agreed. I didn’t press. I couldn’t give him for cause for concern. Perhaps he was just worried about the children in his own twisted way.
And the children? Well, they were off on their own. Training. Gossiping. Playing. Just as children should be. (Well... minus the former point.)
It was Law, however, that drew my attention. Something was off with him. It had been a few days since my brother had left and he seemed... impatient. Jittery, even. There was this way his eyes darted back and forth. The way his fingers fidgeted. The bitten lip. The way he would grasp at his arm, or face, or neck or shoulder.
The latter, if it weren’t for his newfound strength, wouldn’t have been as concerning as it was. I knew the spots he was gripping. They were the places that were afflicted with the amber lead.
There was this certain... look in his eyes. It bespoke desperation. Fear, even.
Those amber eyes met my red ones. And suddenly an entirely new emotion reached them, and I was afraid to even name it.
Then, his eyes darted down. Down to my waist. Down to where he had jammed a blade into me all those years ago.
“C-Corazon...”
He never did call me the affectionate nickname the other children had given me. But then again, Law was an unusual child, after all.
Our gazes met again.
The desperation - it had reached his voice now, and he was clinging to his arm again, but only for a moment as that very hand grasped at my coat.
“Com’ere,” he said, tugging me away. “I gotta ask you something.”
I was suspicious - but at the same time, I couldn’t say no. No, if I did I would be pushing him away, and by now I did not want to do that. I wanted him to confide in me. I wanted to know just how and why he was looking healthier.
Very well.
I let him tug me away.
However, while his... question, per se, was not exactly expected, it was not entirely unexpected either.
The little bastard had drawn his dagger and lunged at me once more.
This time, I was not oblivious. This time, I was not unguarded. And, so, I twisted and grasped tightly onto his wrist - ensuring to use my superior strength against his.
What the hell?! I thought we were past this already!
I looked at him with a guarded and discerning look in my eyes.
And his eyes met mine, with that same disturbing expression.
They met mine before he tugged his hand away and-
Wait. No. That was impossible! There was no way a dying human child could have pulled out of my grasp!
It was the surprise that allowed him to gain a blow against my palm, drawing blood.
How the hell?!
However, it was when I followed his gaze that all the dots began to connect together. The way that his eyes were focused on one thing, and one thing only: my palm. Or, more specifically, the blood pooling in it.
His regaining vitality. The strength he should not have. The look in his eyes. The desperation. Those jitters...
The way he looked at my hand. Eyes entranced by the blood there...
The fact that he asked me. The sole targeting of me...
My brother - Doflamingo - was feeding this child. Feeding Law his blood to keep him alive. Strengthening him so his body could battle the disease that was eating away at him. Giving him the ability to overcome it. To live and survive. Prolonging his life day by day...
And now Law was feeling the effects of it. Feeling that addiction that was so common with humans who ingested the blood of a pureblood. The dependence and that need. To feel that strength again. The high and adrenaline rush...
All of which was only emphasised by the fact that Doflamingo’s blood was - quite literally - the only thing keeping Law alive...
(I only remembered that hint of fear I saw within the child. Of the way his illness began to manifest once more as the blood left his system, as he weakened once more...)
I did not know I could hate my brother anymore until this very moment.
I sighed dejectedly, feeling as my heart sank. This wasn’t Law’s fault. He didn’t attack me out of malice, but out of fear. Out of desperation because his body was craving it. His mind was, because Law wasn’t a stupid child. He knew that our blood was, or would be, the only thing keeping him alive. Keeping the Amber Lead at bay. And so, he did the only thing he knew how to do: go after the only source nearby. Because if Doflamingo was a pureblood, so must be his blood brother.
And, so, I held out my hand.
I definitely had a number of words to exchange with my brother when he returned...

2p’s less to more insecure and their biggest insecurities
Anonyme said :From a scale between 1 to 10, rate each 2P that's the most insecure of themselves and name each one that has the biggest insecurity they have.
Warning : The 2p’s are here classed from the more to the less insecure, according to their troubles and personalities. However, if they were in the real life, all of them would be very unstable because if I must class them according to a “normal person”, they all would be between 10 and 6 of instability. So, it’s not because some have a 1/10 that they are in the same state as a sane person. And more insecure is not more dangerous, some are at the bottom of the ranking and are more dangerous that some that are at the top. The ranking would be totally different if they would have been class depending on the dangerousness.
PS : Sorry for my bad english, I’m french...
2p!France (1/10) :
Except that he suffers from a sort of depressive melancholy that makes him drink and smoke almost every time, François has no interest in killing or torturing; he hates that because it brings nothing to him and his legendary laziness push him to do the minimum. His couldn’t-give-a-damn attitude is his main trait; he doesn’t care about anything and nothing really have his interest. He might want to have experiences (mostly sexual ones), but even that does not really interest him. He’s maybe depressive, but he never complains about his life. He’s cold and detached and it brings him a good objective vision of others’ madness; but for that too, he doesn’t care.
Even if he does not care about anything, he’s still human – maybe old from hundreds of years, but still human – and feelings scared him. Not because it’s like a weakness like what thinks 2p!America, but more because he does not understand them and as a writer who analyze others and their feelings that he feels they unsettle him. He prefers to have an impartial vision of others, not like some sort of god, but more in order not to resemble the other nations from whom he feels very detached.
2p!Spain (1/10) :
The only thing that we can reproach Andres is his love for swords and knives, which he makes a big collection in his cellar. If during his pirate period he was way more redoubtable, killing without mercy, he puts it on the madness of adolescence. When he grew up, he became, if not exactly a pacifist, at least less violent. He doesn’t kill, either torture anyone and doesn’t particularly enjoy hurting people. On the other hand, he’s very cold and grumpy, but far from mean and cruel. He yet perfectly knows how to handle fighting sword and this single capacity is enough to intimidate a potential opponent.
There isn’t much to which Andres is really attached to and his quite cold personality does not really tell if he feels insecure about anything. Perhaps he is afraid to fall again in his pirate period and to bring out again the violent and bloodthirsty side that every 2ps possess. He never accepted that he may be as crazier as the others, so fall back into violence scared him.
2p!Canada (2/10) :
Matt is quite calm most of the time, but behind this pacific appearance hides a really close combat expert. He sometimes goes to destroy faces from little rascals with his brother and his famous hockey stick, but that is not often. However, there is one thing for which Matt could become a real murderer; when he goes for a walk in the forest and he discovers hunters killing animals. He often goes out looking for them with his gun and he kills them, sometimes giving the rest to his bear Kuma.
Matt is a loner who lives far from men and their madness, shut away in the forest where he cuts wood and kills hunters. Then, his worst fear is precisely men and even worse the crowd. He suffers from a big ochlophobia which makes him panic if he finds himself in the middle of them. He never goes to the town, barely if he goes to the village near him to restock his fridge. But he never stays long in contact with other men. He’s a lonely wolf who prefers the tranquility of nature rather than human company. The only ones he manages to tolerate is his family.
2p!Germany (2/10) :
Lutz is far away from the others’ mental troubles. He’s a joker, warm and franc character. At first sight, he seems very different from the others 2ps because almost every of them are crazy and murderer, but Lutz also has his inner demons. If he’s ordinary a very good person in the real life, when comes wars or crisis, he becomes particularly violent and cruel when it’s about defending himself. The torture is an activity he then really loves and he’s exceptionally good at it because incredibly inventive when he has to hurt someone.
If he’s creative about torture, he’s not a fine strategist and setting up attack plans are not in his ability. He’s more the big beefy fellow type who’s giving orders and execute them, even if he hates that. If he was smarter, he could be the brain, but that’s not the case he deplores that. He can’t stand people mocking him because of his lack of discernment and his ability to think.
2p!Russia (3/10) :
Viktor is quite sane compared to others. Well, at least, he wouldn’t kill unlike by accident or by absolute necessity. However, he’s quite capable of torturing if necessary and without qualms if it’s a stranger. He may carry a shovel everywhere, but it’s more to frighten people who want to attack him than to bury them. Yet, he still knows how to terribly hurt people when he needs to.
Viktor wouldn’t handle that someone finds out about his weaknesses. He doesn’t know them himself, he even ignored if he has any, but he would be scared that the other nations find out his weak points that they could use to kneel him. He always stays impassible in order to never show anything – but he doesn’t really have to force himself because he already doesn’t feel much- and so others can’t detect any flaw.
2p!Sweden (3/10) :
Bernard perfectly knows how to hide his true side behind a mask of kindness and a pretty smile. But in reality, he can be considered a Yandere, a bit like 2p!England, because he seems like a good person, but he has a psychotic and murderous personality. He’s particularly manipulative because he always wants to have the control of everything and he has a severe lack of empathy. However, he doesn’t kill often, but when he does, he loves to torture his victim before killing them.
Worse than can happen to Bernard could be that he loses all his landmarks. He’s a character that is very attached to his possessions, so much that he even gives names to them: Mr. Beefy for his leather couch, Aurora for his lamp, Kriskin for his favorite chair and even Thurston (2p!Finland’s name) for his bed. Equally, 2p!Finland is for him one of his dearest possessions because he wants him as his wife – even if the Finnish don’t think so. If all of these brutally disappear, Bernard would enter in a particularly brutally mentally outbreak.
2p!America (4/10) :
Allan is a street guy; street fights amuses him and he will sink in with pleasure, and often he’s the one starting them. He has a violent nature and he enjoys hitting other street guys, especially with his baseball bat covered with nails. It’s something very enjoyable for him. Apart from street fighting that allow him to unwind, he has some moments of anger, but never strong enough to hurt his family or friends.
The thing that’s scares Allan the most is his feelings. Unlike his image of a tough guy he wants to show, he’s a great sentimental, as shown by his love for animals. He would like to be indifferent, but when it comes to his loved ones or people he really appreciates, he cannot help but to be concerned. His family is very important to him; 2p!France, 2p!England, 2p!Canada and his friends. Falling in love is the worst for him because he doesn’t know how to handle with his feelings. His sensitivity is his worst weakness.
2p!Austria (4/10) :
Roland is more dangerous that he is unstable, at least, if we can affirm that being attract and use the occult and summoning is not a trait of instability. Indeed, the Austrian’s passion is dark magic and more exactly demons’ summoning for fun or to a precise goal. He’s a character who regularly frequent Satan. There is nobody is particularly close to, except 2p!Prussia he takes as his boyfriend, even if the one concerned is afraid of him. Thus, the only ones Roland really is with are beings from his spells and summoning.
Roland has no one to really cherish because he scares everyone around him and is not afraid of all dark and dangerous things, so he does not really have any insecurity. But he’s so accustomed to rubbing shoulders with the supernatural that he’s really afraid of everything that can be called “normal”. He’s incapable to live like the others with a simple, ordinary lifestyle and he trembles at the idea of going shopping or talking with someone on the street. He’s socially awkward and tends to scare everyone with his sharped teeth and his red eyes.
2p!Denmark (5/10) :
From all of the 2ps, Markell must be the healthiest. He’s a good warrior, but doesn’t feel any pleasure when killing and he’s even disgusted about it. If he could, he would rewrite his past in order to erase his mistakes. Like 2p!France, he feels relatively detached from the others 2ps because he knows he isn’t like them and refuses to be like them. It must be the reason he smokes marijuana, to escape from this crazy world where almost every nation are bloodthirsty murderers that want to hurt for fun. But he’s far from all this and he would like to live in the 1p world rather than here, but that’s unfortunately impossible.
His biggest insecurity is his own world; the 2ps’ world disgusts him and he would like to escape it. He already asked his 1p if he can go on the 1p world, but Matthias refused, it’s impossible. Then, Markell tries a lot of other ways to flee by smoking for example. He fears the night when he would be awake by one of the nations and being murdered by stabbing or die from poisoning during a meeting.
2p!Japan (5/10) :
Kuro embodies all Japan’s worst actions, including Pearl Harbor and the invasion of China by the Japanese where they did a lot of heinous slaughter (Nanking massacre for example) during the WWII, and for which 2p!Japan hasn’t presented any excuses. He’s merciless, he kills in cold blood and according to what his twisted honor dictate to him. He’s not afraid of killing and torturing when his nation go to war. He’s heartless, dangerous and powerful when he wants to.
A little bit like 2!Finland, he could not stand to see his country lose a war and be besiege. However, unlike Thurston, who only fear 2p!Russia, Kuro sees potential enemies in every other nations. His country is an island, so it’s more difficult to invade, so he counts on his nation’s power to intimidate the others, especially western countries. Defeat is not an option for him, particularly after all the slaughters he did and that could create in his enemies a desire of revenge and a humiliation as horrible as he had done.
2p!South Italy (6/10) :
Flavio isn’t neither the type of killing often and if, without enjoyment. Like 2p!China, he kills only if the person is a threat, especially for him or his brother. He tries not to be very implied in his brother’s business, but he still is his second in command as a Mafiosi. He perfectly uses drugs to poison his victims and sometimes uses knives, but it’s rare. He also could have some Yandere traits towards the person he loves, that is to say 2p!Spain that makes him follow him everywhere and always asking for him.
For him, his body is own essence. If it were to be damaged in any way, Flavio would never recover. He’s almost at the point of honoring his image - being a real Fashionista - so if he has a little scar or a button in a visible place, he would fall into a real exaggerated and incredible existential crisis. Better not imagine if he is tortured or disfigured; then, he would die.
2p!China (6/10) :
Xiao doesn’t really like killing, but he will do it if he has to. If someone is threatening his rug market, he would go kill him without mercy. He particularly uses poisons poured into his victim’s food or stab them with little assassin’s knives in a dark area or at a street corner. He’s part of the Chinese triads so he’s an experienced gangster who knows everything about the art of removing people. He then can kill, but he also loves to threaten.
He’s maybe a gangster, but when Xiao is in love, he’s deeply enamored of the person and he can do everything for them and protect them from the entire world, especially his wild life. If something happen to them, he would feel guilty his whole life and never can forget himself for not being able to protect them, even after his finished revenge. Then, when he’s in love, his worst fear is that something happens to this person and not being able to protect them.
2p!Finland (7/10) :
Thurston is a very quickly angered person, sometimes even to the point that he enters into angry phases exceptionally violent, in which he needs to evacuate all of his wrath by breaking things for example. In order to avoid that, he generally takes his gun and his dog and go on a hunt; which is a real way to let off steam for him. The rest of the time, even if he has a grumpy and nervous personality, he’s not a bad man, but a simple bad news or an arguing are enough for his irritable temperament to explode.
The worst fear for Thurston is to be invaded again by 2p!Russia and to not be able to defend himself to repulse him. Being invade is for him a sign of weakness and powerlessness and his first invasion by Viktor centuries before was a really painful defeat. A second one and it would be the worst thing for him. He needs to prove to everyone that he is strong and that he can go up against 2p!Russia as a proof.
2p!Norway (7/10) :
Loki seems to be someone particularly smiling and friendly, but when we begin to enter into his life, he would tend to not want you to leave his side and would grab onto the person when he starts to like them. And the more we stay near him, the more he would show us his unstable and manic side of him by stalking us everywhere to know what we’re doing. He especially does that with 2p!Denmark he really loves. However, he’s very mean and violent with 2p!Iceland (he’s the one who tears off his eyes). It must not be forgotten that Loki is a passionate pyromaniac which explains his burns. He loves to burn everything he can
In addition to being a pyromaniac, Loki also possesses the same magical capacities as his 1p counterpart. However, he’s really afraid of these magic because with him it quickly become out of control. He already summoned powerful demons and spirits who haunted him, which lead him to be scared of his own powers and dark forces he can invoke. That’s why he uses them very little in order to not make him or his close relatives in danger.
2p!Iceland (8/10) :
After being raised by his unstable brother, it’s not very surprising that Egil, even if not very dangerous, has serious mental issues, particularly a borderline personality disorder that makes him have moods swings and wishes of self-harming. He suffers from anxiety, depression and the PTSD complex (a trauma due to repeated traumatic situations over long periods). A great cocktail that makes from Egil a likeable and nice young man from the first sight, but particularly disturbed.
His brother might well be unstable, it doesn’t stop Egil from loving him like a big brother. 2p!Norway, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to see him as a little brother. The Icelandic is very attached to Loki, even if he is cold and cruel to him since he found him on his island and brought him to Norway. He is very destabilized when his big brother isn’t near him and if Loki disappear, it would be a part of Egil’s world would crumble.
2p!Prussia (9/10) :
The biggest problem of Gilen is from far his deep depression, which locks him in an almost constant muteness. His depression causes a lot of stress, a big lack of self-confidence and a self-loathing that sometimes bring him to self-harm that add more scars than he already have because of his wars. His mood is generally very dark and all his words speak about death and pain. His unique way to escape is his daydream when he walks in beautiful landscapes or when he writes in his diary, although his writing still is very sad. He is unstable, but from all of the 2ps, he’s the less dangerous for the others; he can’t hurt anyone.
Finally, the worst insecurity of Gilen is life itself. It’s not beautiful or nice with him, and he tries to stay away from it as much as he can. He must have been weary before his territories’ dismemberment and his nation’s death should have been some sort of comfort for him, but he noticed that he still lived even after his nation’s fall. That’s most certainly what drove him into depression that he couldn’t die with his nation. Now, he lost all hope of dying and lock himself into his sickness.
2p!England (10/10) :
Generally, Oliver would be seen as someone normal, sometimes a little bit too much happy. But he has manic phases, just like Luciano, in which he is quite capable of killing someone, even if it’s with a less violent way than 2p!North Italy. He prefers to pour poison in his cupcakes before giving it to his victims. Although what he does after being as much violent because he sometimes cuts his victims out and stuff his cupcakes with organs. He has an obsessive personality disorder that makes him stick a person he really appreciates like a glue.
However, his good mood only is a mask to hide his fear of losing the ones he really loves, like François his lover-enemy, his two “sons” Allan and Matt and his friends like Flavio. He is terribly afraid of being all alone, also, the distant behavior of his closest family member hurt him a lot. Then, he easily could enter in a depressive phase. It already happens after being insulted or attacked. He is extremely sensitive.
2p!North Italy (10/10) :
Luciano is most certainly one of the most insecure 2ps with 2p!England. He is a maniac who suffers from hyperactivity. As far as he can have self-control when he supervise and give orders, he can also be entirely controlled by his aggressive impulses and enter in a psychotic phase which made him kill on a whim. It’s generally very violent and his favorite way of killing is by stabbing his victim several times. He likes to torture his victims before killing them, especially when he wants them to give him information.
His most important insecurity is his paranoia. He is convinced that everyone wants to make an attempt on his life (after all, he is the boss’ mafia). He also tends to eliminate anyone around him in whom he has doubts, except when it’s someone very close and he appreciates a lot. Then, he would give them the benefit of the doubt and put them under guard. Indeed, because of his oversized paranoia, he will tend to have a lot of spies, which he will order to watch each other. This way, he could have his eye on his enemies, friends, family, colleagues and his own spies.

calcite, chalcopyrite, blue lace agate, & emerald ♥
blue lace agate: my muse’s favorite form of communication (verbal, letters, texting, etc.)
balthier enjoys showing off his flowery penmanship whenever he can, so he prefers letters. fates would have it, then, that the only person he cares to write to - his sky pirate lover vaan, always off somewhere far - has the scrawl of a drunk cockatrice.
calcite: my muse’s social tendencies (introverted vs extroverted, parties vs one-on-one conversations, etc.)
introverted but an actor with a charm that can hold an entire room’s attention if he needs to, but it’s always out of necessity. balthier is an introvert at heart and prefers the company of those closest to him, where he can relax.
chalcopyrite: how my muse deals with ending relationships
faking his own death for a year
emerald: how my muse tells someone they love them without words
i hc that balthier is very thoughtful and likes to use his skills to help the ones he loves. vaan, for instance, had a situation where scrappers and bounty hunters nearly destroyed his ship. vaan returned with it to the hangar and lamented over the damage and the cost of it, only to wake for balthier to have repaired it and installed a cloaking device on his ship. the process took a tireless 10-hour commitment over a sleepless night, but vaan’s smile had been worth it.
all his life, ffamran had been made to feel useless and unwanted. as he became balthier, he threw the part of him that seeks validation out the window. but sometimes, it creeps back, and if he can do something to feel useful and valuable, then he does.

Muse Profile: Divergent Seas!Sam
Tumblr media
Personal Verser: Divergent Seas: The earth as we know it very different. There are no large continents, only large islands or island clusters that resemble small continents. The ocean is prevalent and travel by ship is the only means of travel between the islands and the main source of income is either aboard a ship or working on the docks.
Tales are told about being careful upon the open seas. There is speak of vicious sea spirits lurking in the deep. Any sailor going out onto the waters to discover far off lands, takes their lives into their own hands.
Verse Availability (without me having to be part of the RP): Open to all my closest mutuals to use as they please. You know who you are.
Verse Song Suggestion: Loreley by Blackmore’s Night
Name: Sam Winchester
Species: Human
Verse Age: 30 - 35
Occupation: Pirate and cryptid hunter posing as a common sailor for hire.
Family: Dean (Brother who shares the same job), Mary (Mother who is a ”Retired” hunter and cryptid hunter)
Home Town: Lawrence on the island of Kansas in the norther America archipelago.
Current Residence: An old pirate fort overgrown by vegetation. He and Dean discovered it on their travels a few years back.
Bio: Sam never wanted to be a criminal. But, unfortunately, he and his brother were very poor growing up. Their father was a sailor and gone most of the time while their mother was lost at sea. The boys had to resort to hunting, dock work, and stealing in order to survive.
When they became adults, things didn’t change. The boys became pirates through necessity. They became sailors and changed ships after each voyage. Once they would land at a destination, they would burgle  homes and inns they came across. But, they would never hurt humans unless those humans became a physical threat.
At a young age, the boys discovered the existence of rare and/or magical creatures in all shapes and sizes. Feeling the need to protect people to make up for their crimes, they hunted the cryptids that were evil. As they grew older and began sailing to new islands, they found witch doctors at pirate coves would pay high prices for these creatures. Dead or alive.
So, cryptid hunters became another part of their jobs while voyages.
Significant Discovery: Sam one time took a voyage without Dean. It was the greatest and worst voyage of his life. This was because he was the first recorded sailor to see what sirens actually look like and discovered there was indeed male sirens.
Most sailors didn’t believe in the story of sirens (*cough*SeaAngels*cough*). They were just old wives’ tales to scare sailors into coming back to their wives. Sam discovered that these stories were indeed true.
An alluring chorus of several voices had cut through the mist one time of the voyage. And Sam seemed to have lost time because all he could remember was hearing the song before chaos reigned.
The next thing he remembered was waking up amidst the wreckage of his ship upon the line of rocks before a shore of a small island. He was in a great deal of pain and thought he had gone insane at what he saw.
There was a creature like no other he had ever seen.
The top half was that of a man and the bottom half a fish. The fish scales were a beautiful mix of golds and reds. The creature’s drenched hair was a beautiful dark gold and its eyes the color of honey. The slightly soft but handsome features stole Sam’s breath away.
It was the other features that were truly terrifying. The siren had claw-like nails, sharp teeth, and large webbed wings that protruded from its back. It’s skin and scales glimmered in the moonlight as it snacked on the captain’s private store of sweets.
Sam doesn’t remember past the moment his eyes met that golden gaze. He only remembers reawakening upon a distant short, being rescued by some kind sailors. To this day, he longs to hear the siren’s call on his voyages. Though, he’s sure that he sees a shimmer of gold in the waters of any ship that he sails upon now.
Muse available for RPs upon request.

(via Black Sails Episode 310 - XXVIII)
WELL-FORMED THOUGHTS
Season three spent a lot of time showing us varying styles of leadership as we watched Silver struggle with his newfound authority.  We’ve seen him learn from both Flint and Madi, and in this episode, it seems clear that he has tried to carve out a path that incorporates the best of both of them.  Essentially, if Flint is feared and Madi is liked, Silver believes (based on his interactions with Dobbs) that he is both feared and liked.  Put this way, I almost believe that his leadership style is the most effective.
But there is another angle worth exploring.  In his conversation with Flint, Silver explicitly states what emotions he and Flint inspire in the men, and I will add my own thoughts about Madi.  Flint inspires resentment in his crew, likely because he withholds his intentions and affections.  Silver inspires shame in his men, explicitly because they’re desperate to please him.  Madi, I believe, inspires loyalty in her people, because they trust her family’s ruling ability.  In this light, Madi’s leadership style clearly seems the best option.  We’ve seen Flint lose and regain his position multiple times because of an ongoing cycle of silence and resentment.  The shame that Silver inspires immediately sounds like civilization’s ploy of offering comfort with the threat of punishment looming overhead.  Madi is the only one that seems even remotely healthy.
In summation, everyone should be like Madi.  Obviously.
FRAGMENTED THOUGHTS
Flint/Silver/Jack is a great trio that I wish we could have more of.
“You [Silver] they trust above any of us not to betray for money.  The irony wasn’t lost on either of us.”
Literally every line between Flint and Silver during these late night flashbacks deserves to be over-analyzed, but I’ll try to just pick and choose a few of the highlights.
Silver is having second thoughts as he thinks about the blood that’s about to be spilt.  Flint sincerely but kind of carelessly says that he just wishes it weren’t necessary.  This seems to me another example of Flint’s enormous experience with making life or death decisions, which just highlights Silver being new to the role.  Or looked at another way, Flint is so focused on the big picture that he doesn’t see individual lives lost, while Silver can.
Indeed, Hornigold says much the same thing to the English officer who asks, “Am I to believe he sacrificed over fifty of his men, led them into a massacre deliberately, just to entice us to chase him?”  “He’s quite capable of what you suggest and more.”
In another man, these decisions would seem reckless or evil, but Flint’s redeeming quality is that he never puts someone in danger without being in similar danger himself.
The partnership between Eleanor and Max is breaking down after the events of the last episode.  Max doesn’t want to make enemies if she doesn’t have to, but Eleanor is buying into England’s belief that making concessions equals weakness.
“You have enemies here.  Let them be my enemies as well.”
Okay, FINE, that was actually a really romantic scene between Eleanor and Woodes Rogers.  He supports her, and I’m really glad she has that.
Jack is super smart for identifying the pirate fleet.  Teach tells both him and Anne that Charles is dead.  Teach joins the cause, saying, “The governor in Nassau hung him in the square.  On the island I helped build, he thought he could do that and face no consequences.  He failed to account for me.”  *shivers*  I love badass Teach!  Not that there’s actually any other kind.
FLINT TELLS SILVER ABOUT THOMAS!!!  My heart explodes from pride at my good boy being vulnerable and my other good boy listening and empathizing and there being no shame between the two of them!!!
Flint:  So you see yourself as a potential fourth member of this class, concerned that your association with me will lead to your end. Silver:  My association with you began out of necessity, but I’ve come to find a great deal of respect for you.  Perhaps even friendship.  Which is why I find myself unnerved by the thought that when this pattern applies itself to you and I that I will be the end of you. Flint:  Is that so? Silver:  Well, the three who preceded me all had one thing in common: they were vulnerable to you.  Had more to lose than you, less means with which to protect themselves than you.  Until recently, I thought that was me as well, but now I don’t know that it is anymore. Flint:  It is natural for men new to power to assume that it has no limits.  Trust me.  It does.
God, I could watch entire seasons of these two talking to each other and engaging in sexy sexy power struggles.
The whole “is Dobbs betraying them or not” thing is done Very Well.
Teach:  You can count the things that Flint and I agree upon on one hand.  But among them is the sincere confusion as to why Charles invested any time and energy in you.  I suppose Flint’s come to see that there might be some capacity in you after all. Jack:  And? Teach:  And what? Jack:  “And” as in it sounded as if there was more to that thought.  That you might see yourself agreeing with him again about my capacity.  There wasn’t any more to that thought, was there?
Jack’s fanboy adoration of Teach is SO CUTE.
And then we get his amazing, “To be underestimated is an incredible gift.”  What a perfect pirate position, to use England’s prejudice against her.  AND Jack gets the added bonus of acknowledging that Teach underestimates him, but that perhaps he shouldn’t.
Madi wants to be fighting beside her people, and when she appears next to Silver, he silently hands her a musket.  No trying to protect her bullshit, just respect for her decision and confidence in her ability.
Similarly, Jack wishes Anne well as she leaves to take over an English ship.  He knows she’s awesome, and his smile when she successfully uses one ship to attack another!!  He loves his badass partner!
“See you on the other side.” “Always.”
Every time Silver talks about being liked and feared, I cannot help but think of Michael Scott’s “Would I rather be feared or loved?  Umm…easy, both.  I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”
Honestly, this whole conversation is Shark Date 2.0 in which Silver is desperate for Flint to take him seriously (much like Jack/Teach).
Anne defeats the English ships!!  Flint defeats the English soldiers!!  It’s all so amazing and well planned and I looooove it.
Flint kills Hornigold, and no one feels bad about it.
“Tell your governor – you tell him I’m coming!”  Me: AHHHHH.
“In terms of our future and the danger that you believe you may pose to me, bear this in mind.  I have survived starvation, a tempest, pirate hunters, jealous captains, mutinous crews, angry lords, a queen, a king, and the goddamn British navy.  So to whatever extent you may be concerned that some day we will clash, worried that though today we be friends, some day you will have no choice but to be my end, I wouldn’t worry too much.”
Me, again:  AHHHHH.
I know that Luke Arnold claimed this scene was two friends sincerely concerned for each other, but in context, the whole thing reads as rather sinister.
Billy creates the legend of Long John Silver because he doesn’t want to hand any more power to Flint.  Interestingly, he seems to think the problem is Flint himself, when we have seen throughout this season that the problem is in the power itself, and how it forces men and women to make terrible decisions.
My bias is showing, but I can’t stop thinking that Silver’s legend is being built for him, whereas James fought to create his Flint persona all on his own.
“I was no one, and then you came, and my island fell, and I became something else.  On the night I confiscated the pardon rolls, the night I started becoming, I made clear my position that there would be two sorts of men on the island going forward: those like Captain Vane, determined to stand by their oath to the very end.  And those like Captain Throckmorton, happy to be the first to betray it.  Captain Throckmorton’s black spot will not be the last.  Ignore it, and join him.  Heed it, and reclaim your place amongst us.  Until then, I remain Long John Silver.”
THAT ROUND TABLE, with Flint, Silver, Teach, Jack, Anne, Madi, and the Queen standing together!!!  Me, again and always:  AHHHHH.
And that’s the end of season three!  We started with the lonely Walrus crew trying to survive against the elements and ended with a united pirate alliance with former slaves, determined to defeat the British empire.  THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD.

Author’s Notes: The Secret Academy, Pt. 2
WARNING: These notes will completely spoil Servants of the Empire: The Secret Academy. Haven’t read it? Stop and go here.
(Go here for notes for Edge of the Galaxy, here for Rebel in the Ranks and here for Imperial Justice. And here’s Pt. 1 of The Secret Academy. )
Tumblr media
All right! It’s our last go-round for Servants of the Empire author’s notes. Thanks to everybody who’s followed along this far – I’ve had a blast writing these notes and hope they’ve been useful, whether you’re a budding author or an interested reader.
Part 2: Merei
At the end of Imperial Justice, Merei Spanjaf escaped her service to the crime boss Yahenna Laxo and her mother Jessa’s investigation of her intrusion into the Imperial data network. Yet Merei then immediately used her forged credentials to resume her snooping, discovering that Zare Leonis was sent to Arkanis at the Inquisitor’s orders.
I did that in Imperial Justice so the reader would go into The Secret Academy worrying about Zare and suspecting that Merei wouldn’t be able to leave well enough alone – in Godfather-style, she thinks she’s out but they pull her back in.
What pulls her back in is her determination to save Holshef, an elderly poet endangered by Laxo’s demise. She’s worried about Holshef himself, but also frustrated by her inability to help Zare and guilt-ridden about Laxo’s death. Holshef becomes her way of turning that frustration and guilt into something positive.
Originally Holshef’s rescue had more moving parts: Merei enlisted his daughter to help and played a game of cat and mouse with the bounty hunter trying to apprehend him. But I realized I didn’t have room to weave another strand into the plot. In fact, I was worried I didn’t have enough room to do everything necessary to wrap up book and series properly. So Holshef’s daughter got pared down to a quick reference and the bounty hunter was reduced to a briefly glimpsed antagonist.
I had to economize elsewhere too, sometimes to a fault – I agree with reviewers who found the last two sections of The Secret Academy a little rushed. This book taught me that while wrapping up a series is easier than constructing a middle chapter, the little grace notes needed for a satisfying ending require more words than you think. Live and learn.
One dynamic I liked in Merei’s story was how Jessa turns cool and resourceful once Merei reveals the truth about the Empire. Rather than waste time mourning misplaced loyalties, Jessa swings into action and becomes an effective partner for her daughter. Which makes sense -- apple and tree and all that. But I wish I’d seen the dramatic possibilities earlier and played up the conflict between Jessa and Merei in Rebel in the Ranks and Imperial Justice. That would have made the payoff from Jessa’s turn more satisfying.
An unexpected complication was how to get Holshef, the Spanjafs and the Leonises from Lothal to Garel. My original idea was that Merei would call in a favor from the Spectres via Old Jho, with Ezra insisting that his compatriots pay their debt to Zare by joining the raid on Arkanis. But at that point in the Rebels timeline the Spectres were laying low and avoiding Lothal. I could use them for the raid, but not the rescue.
Plan B was using Lando Calrissian, but I hated the idea – Lando had played no role in the series and I felt a cameo would distract readers and slam the story to a halt. At that point I needed readers to be biting their nails, not going, “Hey neat it’s Lando!”
Plan C was using Old Jho himself, and I disliked that idea too. But I warmed to it out of necessity since there was no Plan D. At least I liked the character – his trolling the Imperials in “Idiot’s Array” was pretty funny – and I’d already decided to pair him with Holshef as another elegiac voice for Lothal. Expanding Jho’s role from go-between to rescuer wasn’t ideal, but it wasn’t the end of the world, either. So I added some light comedy about whether or not his ship would fly, dropped a few The Force Awakens Easter eggs and moved on.
Some notes on Part 2:
“Wox ho uffdon comda,” mutters a speeder truck after Merei cuts it off in traffic. That’s Bocce, derived from the Galactic Phrase Book and Travel Guide. An approximate translation would be “You go shut down now.”
Merei and Holshef talk about jogan blossoms, with the old poet musing that scent can unlock memory. This is, of course, exactly how Zare will cut through Beck’s brainwashing around 60 pages later. I’d woven the theme of scent and memory through all four books, but needed to double down on it now that I was so close to the story’s climax.
The events of Chapter 14 tie in with the Rebels episode “Call to Action.” I liked that Tarkin’s toppling the tower creates problems for the Empire that insurgents can exploit – I thought that was a realistic consequence, and one it would be natural for Jessa and Gandr to comment on.
Operation Guiding Light, the directive that Holshef ran afoul of, is another fascist strategy designed to mesh with Imperial Justice. Its directive that nostalgia should be suppressed as “a product of dissatisfaction and anger” is an homage to a line I love in Don DeLillo’s White Noise.
On a less highbrow note, Old Jho’s sorrowful note that the forests of his youth have been “turned into mines and machines” is right out of Lord of the Rings. Which makes sense, as Ithorians are basically the Legends version of Ents.
Merei’s long speech to her parents recounting everything she’s done behind their backs was meant as a bit of domestic comedy, with Jessa and Gandr staring at their daughter in disbelief as this treasonous chronicle rolls on and on. There’s a similar scene with Tycho and his family in Jupiter Pirates: The Rise of Earth, which was written at much the same time. In both books, a few readers missed the joke and complained about getting a big chunk of exposition about things they already knew. Oh well.
Something went awry with the bit about the locator in Chapter 17, or else I’ve forgotten what I was trying to do. Jessa tells Merei to leave it with Gandr, but then tells Gandr she’ll send him their location. Huh?
Some readers have asked what happened to Jix. Beats me – I assume he went to prison. An experiment I tried in Servants of the Empire was letting things be a bit messy. Merei forgets to tell Zare about Project Unity, we don’t find out what happened to Oleg or Jix, and Chiron makes a promise to Penn that he winds up unable to keep. I think a certain amount of messiness is realistic – certainly more so than having every single plot thread tied off neatly by the end of a series.
Merei stunning Leo – and Tepha’s reaction to it -- was a scene I had in mind from the very beginning of the series. It’s Merei’s Indy in the Casbah moment. Auntie Nags was supposed to then lecture Merei that it’s bad manners for guests to shoot people, but I unthinkingly used that joke in The Weapon of a Jedi and so had to drop it here. I wish I’d done the reverse – C-3PO has plenty of good lines already.
Part 3: The Tower
This section brings everything together and so moves quickly, reuniting Zare and Merei and then Zare and Dhara, sacrificing Beck, then getting everybody off Arkanis for a pair of emotional reunions.
I worked hard on Zare’s speech, reading it out loud to myself until I thought it was right. I like it both as an emotional recitation of the journey he’s been on and a call to arms -- an indictment of the Empire that could only be made by someone who’d once believed in it.
Three books’ worth of work on scent and memory pays off with Beck’s turn, but I also brought grav-ball back as a reference point. I overdid the grav-ball references -- Zare and Beck talking about a center-striker sneak would have been enough -- but think it works. That last image of Beck’s hand with the jogan blossom clutched in it is a little cheesy, but I figured I’d earned it.
Another scene I polished obsessively was Zare’s long-awaited reunion with Dhara. I mulled including brief interludes in the series from Dhara’s point of view, but decided it was more dramatic to reveal nothing about her fate until we see her here. As for why Dhara was kidnapped, there are clues in what she tells Zare in her cell and aboard the Ghost. That’s all I’ll say for now.
Chiron’s death was another part of the endgame that I had in mind from the very beginning, complete with Dhara’s burning eyes and Zare swearing Merei to secrecy about her Force tantrum. I liked that there’s no real villain in Chiron’s demise – he follows his misguided sense of duty to the very end, Dhara acts out of self-preservation, and you can’t really blame either of them. A nice bit of tragedy, if I do say so myself. The logistics were a pain, though – I had to isolate Zare, Merei and Dhara, figure out how the auxiliary elevator came into play and then get everybody to the roof.
The scenes aboard the Ghost were reworked at the very end of the process. My editor Jen Heddle asked for a quiet scene between Zare and Dhara, which was a great call, giving them a moment that Zare had worked so hard for. As for Zare and Merei’s vow to make use of the data she’d stolen and keep fighting, it was another late addition. Once again, that’s all I’ll say for now.
Thanks so much to everyone who’s begged, cajoled or campaigned for further adventures of Zare and Merei. There are no plans that I know of, but I’d love to bring them back for another story. I want to know what became of their campaign against the Empire, where their relationship went, and if Dhara recovered from her ordeal at the Inquisitor’s hands. (And yes, I have ideas about all of those things.) But if that never happens, it’s fun to think of Zare and Merei continuing to fight the good fight, as they learned to do so capably over four books.
Quick notes on Part 3:
The other cadets stripping Zare’s uniform and breaking his saber was borrowed from descriptions of Han Solo’s expulsion from the Imperial Academy in Han Solo at Stars’ End and the Dark Empire Sourcebook. To keep the reader from being distracted by a new uniform, I made sure the cadets wore their dress blacks in an earlier scene.
Beck mentioning that he stopped taking his medication was a quick add to reinforce the idea of the jogan perfume cutting through his brainwashing. I think little buttressing details like that are effective provided they neither stop the narrative nor give the game away.
I liked that Zare doesn’t really have a plan once he and Beck break out. Zare’s a smart kid who’s cool under fire, but he’s in a facility he knows nothing about so he’s just improvising wildly. Hey, when you’ve got a date with a firing squad any plan is better than nothing.
Where’s the rest of the Ghost crew? I left Kanan out because he would have sensed Dhara’s dark-side tantrum and started asking questions. Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo also taught me a good trick from TV: leave out a member of an ensemble cast in case you need to explain what happened in some later project. That way you can handle the needed exposition through conversation.
I enjoyed writing Dhara’s reunion with Tepha and Leo – after so much tension and anxiety, it was satisfying to craft a scene that was just pure love and joy. But if Servants of the Empire is ever collected into a single volume, I’m campaigning to edit out that last line. After everything the Leonises had been through, Dhara telling the rest of her family not to let go said it all.
If you enjoyed these notes and are going to Orlando for Star Wars Celebration 2017, I’m leading a Star Wars University session about writing and storytelling on Friday April 14 at 6:30 pm. Come on out!
Thanks for coming along on the journey with me, and here’s to new adventures ahead.

ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling: Setting
ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling: The Setting and World
The 3rd Section, of this analysis, Academia vs the City, and here we will see how ultimately what is Academia. In here we will have built to your 4th Section, and the final one, about Lancers, and the meaning of Egao. So come and join, as we start the next leg of our journey about ARC-V. We will uncover the meaning of the setting, and what it was has affected our characters. Let us begin, this analysis, onto the breach once more!
————— ————— ARC-V Symbolism Via Dueling: Security vs Obelisk Force
Now then boys and girls, welcome to the third major section, of the discussion, it’s time- no not Serge and Battle Beast, but Obelisk Force vs Security! First off, these two groups both use Earth Type Monsters used by first series villains, but there are some important but innate differences. First off, one are hunters, and killers, utterly loyal, dogmatic in their pursuit, and trusted by their commander, Obelisk Force. In contrast the security, is not trusted by Roget at all, he assumed direct control, and did not trust his underlines to remain loyal to him.
Furthermore, Obelisk Force only ever uses Fusions, but in reality, via Hunting Hound effect plays more likes Synchro. I.e they Synchro climb, instead of using a Fusion Suite like Fluffals, Shaddolls and Heroes. This even sits them up in direct contrast to Lunalights. Their non-Chaos Giant Boss, name is called Ultimate Hunting Hound, similar to how Crowler’s final boss was Ultimate Golem.
Another contrast with security, where Obelisk Force normally relies one Fusion and just climbing. Security often uses a bunch of Goyo Synchros and in fact their deck is weaker monsters coming together to make stronger ones. Goyo Chaser, and Goyo Defender are the best example of this. Their accel Synchro Goyo King and the Fusion evolution Goyo Emperor, both require additional Synchros for the best value. Let it be stated again, FUSION evolution.
The Hound Dog, and Obelisk Force, never added any additional summoning methods unless you count Dennis. This in spite that a card like Gear Gigant X (it’s even Earth Machine) would be very helpful for their deck and playstyle. That shows and represents Fusion Jingoism. Furthermore, the cards themselves are poignant on their very different role in so society.
The Goyo’s all use batons, and shields, sometimes a restraining rope. Ultimately corruption aside, they never shown to kill only capture, a theme kept throughout. They are a police force, at the end of the day not an army. The Obelisk Force, all immediately attack, Hound Dog inflicting effect damage, Double Bite effect destroying a monster. Ultimate reducing life by half. Here it shows unrestrained, and sadistic, never stopping, and just relentlessly perusing their opponent no matter the scenario.
The last part I will mention is Juvenile Police vs Junior Security seen when Yuya and company first arrived in Synchro. The Juvenile acted very childish and bragged to Alexis consistently, furthermore unlike Obelisk Force their decks are very bright colored. And completely ignore the necessity of hand problems.
The Junior Police, are completely professional and by the books, down to Earth and straightforward. They also discard cards, but do so in a way that would immediately win then the game. Their card destroyed summons back used materials. Ultimately representing once again for all their faults security are professionals where Obelisk and Juvenile Police simply are not, they are sadists.
Next up Roget vs the Doctor!
————— ————— ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling, The Tech Genius vs Biologist
Serge will be next, if you are good, but Roget and The Doctor. First and foremost, both have the same uniform and same role within Academia as Scientist. Furthermore both role several as an Academia SubBoss. Our hero (Yuya) never fought either of them directly only their minions, but instead dealt with by an Akaba. Their the similarity ends, as one was loyal and used bugs, furthermore he trusted Leo. Let me emphasis this again, he, i.e the doctor trusted not just Leo. But his Parasites to act independently.
Roget, instead fought against the Akaba’s and did not trust his allies, he it Serge or security to act independently. Then we come to difference number duos between Roget and The Doctor. Their method of mind control, over their subordinates.
The Doctor used organic technology, that he ultimately had no direct control over. Furthermore, he took time and space, to develop them further upon initial failure (in the case of Ruri). Roget on the other hand relied on one tactic and if it failed the answer was Serge. If that failed, he just threw more security at his opponents. In fact the endless duel stratagem he created was him doing the same strategy over and over again. No adaption no attempt to improve his strategy.
Ultimately, the difference between these two can be summed up as the falling. The Doctor uses his parasites, is adaptable, flexible, and loyal. Where Roget, mechanical like plans, are instead rigid, inflexible, and disloyal. Next up! I am sorry folks, but there is a little bit more before we get to Serge. But the Dueling Assassins! The Amazons, Captain Solo, Diana and Apollo, with those two I will be comparing to someone characters that are otherwise also rather forgettable. How their decks compare to those past filler characters. And then, how we know a loyalist, from a treacherous Academia Soldier.
—————- —————- ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling: The Dueling Assassins
Now we come to the nitty gritty, our antagonists. Our hero’s various foes as we set out across defeat Academia. They are Grace and Gloria, Diana and Apollo, Captain Solo. The only other Dueling Assassins are Bernie and Battle Beast, whom I shall discuss next. Each of the Dueling Assassins are tied to Greco-Roman Mythology, Grace and Gloria were amazons, Diana and Apollo is in the name, Captain Solo deck not as explicitly related but his name is rooted in Latin.
In the case of Grace and Gloria, first off their decks are most Earth-Warrior. If you didn’t forget, remember the martial artists from season? The decks they used were in fact also based on Earth Warriors. There were some differences between, Ryozanpaku Duo, and these two, but I’ll stick with the similarities for a moment. The duo also got confused by someone (Yugo), who they thought to be someone else. Now onto the dueling itself, the first fusion monster summoned had a direct synergy with the second one to be summoned, in each case involving the pairs.
In case of Duo, it was Fuijin, and the Amazons it was Empress. The second monster, Raijin, summoned by the duo dealt piercing (which Empress enables for all Amazons). Liger like Raijin, cares about itself attacking (in addition to a attack negation effect). And finally both were defeated by an Xyz monster winning the game, (Trapeze Magician and Rebellion Dragon vs Duo, and then vs Amazons using Dark Rebellion and Rise Falcon). Now here is where we start differing.
The Amazons whole decks are dedicated to supporting each, and deal with attacking overall. In contrast Fuijin and Raijin, only one deals with attacking, the other deals with effect damage, or is cowardly way out. In addition, Amazons incorporate Beasts into their deck, where the Star Fusions are Wind and not Earth. Finally, the Amazons were just soldiers following orders (well and looking for a fun duel), while the Duo, were seeking petty vengeance for Yuya’s victory over Isao. The Amazons were honorable and fought fairly, while the Duo were underhanded and tricky. Yuya fought alongside Shun, someone who is direct and to the point, also an ally, that would be unable to join Yuya across dimensions, where Yuya fought alongside Dennis, an unknown, dishonest, who became an ally later on, and joined them in crossing dimensions.
In this case, these represent both how far Yuya has come (Egao'ing the Amazons), but also the nature of his opponents has now radically changed. People who will face him head on, and use his own battle tactics against him.
The next one up, is Captain Solo, whom we shall compare to Marco. Both are teachers at their respective school, and were first enemy of that dimension to defend their world from invasion. Both of their decks use, a water, and a dark monster. The only difference is one uses a Dark Warrior and Aqua Water (Marco), the other uses Dark Fiend and Warrior Water (Solo).
Furthermore, both of these bosses, are lockdown based (see Last Warrior from Another Plant and Pirate Captain), that nominally affects each player. Warrior, however has far more restrictions, and easier to play around (for example you can set). In the case of Pirate Captain, you just cannot. Pirate Captain, you cannot summon at all from the hand (you can however summon from extra deck and graveyard, or with trap monsters).
Against Non-Fusion decks, it makes the monster hard to out. Or at least that is the theoretical idea. The comparison to make, is Warrior, draws from Zombyra, based on the superhero Spawn, more than his other fusion material. Telling us ultimately, that Marco is a heroic character despite playing a lockdown deck. Pirate Captain (or Captain Hook) draws more equally from both fusion materials, and is itself a reference to famous fairytale villain. Already telling us the character of our foe, before we learn its effect. Like the Amazons and the Duo, what Hook represents here the difference between LDS and Academia, if the Duo represented difference between Ryozanpaku and Academia.
The final of the dueling assassins, Diana and Apollo. They are dueled separately, and by Yugo, as well as Kaito. These two play almost the same deck, and make the same plays. Infact they are defeated effortlessly by our heroes, before they move on to rescue the girls. These two are most similar ironically, to Halil and Olga. In they share the same contrast, that one is fire/sun themed (Halil and Apollo) and the other is water/moon (Olga and Diana). Infact furthermore, these even have the genders, and match the respective counterpart.
In contrast, the Diana and Apollo act high and mighty, where Olga and Halil, were (especially Halil case) polite. In addition, Olga and Halil had the same duel vs Man and Yuzu once they joined together as one. At the end of the day small fry, that were defeated by numerous characters, similar to underwhelming performance of Diana and Apollo. Ultimately both represent the obvious obstacle, that hides a more sinister purpose in the end (the captured girls, and Obelisk Force). They both defeat the ones sent and expected to defeat them (Kaito and Yugo, and the Youth Group). Requiring different heroes.
What the difference is how they use tools, Reiji, sent the youth group the moment the Obelisk Force arrived, Leo simply did not care for Diana and Apollo. Olga and Halil more down to earth, representative via natural elements. Where Diana and Apollo decks are more in the clouds representing Leo detachment.
Now, we will end this section with how you know loyalist Academia, from treacherous Academia. Then stick with me for Serge and Barret. Do not worry the loyalist and treacherous section is short.
———————– ———————– ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling: Battle Beast vs Serge
I lie, friends. I am going talk about Serge and Battle Beast, before I talked about how to tell a loyalist from treacherous Academia Soldier. So why these two first? Well first of all, Battle Beast (and his handler Bernie), are the last of the Dueling Assassins. And should be appropriately discussed alongside the previously mentioned Dueling Assassins. They are another key similarity in addition to having handlers, they were ‘killers’, famous individuals within their world. And show Roget and Bernie’s methods of control of their strongest piece in contrast.
The first is Battle Beast, runs a deck of Gladiator Beasts. Which are well a reference to Roman Gladiators. These were slaves, acquired via various means such as war prisoners or selling themselves into slavery to pay off debts, forced to fight for amusement of the Roman People. The other point is they use true contact Fusion, a style no one else in Academia uses (Beside VWXYZ Duelists, which on the other hand cannot contact out).
Furthermore, he is a final exam, and as many of you know have aged poorly over the years competitively. However, the deck’s the nature of relying on mass summoning play very similar to Xyz and Synchro decks. So, beating it would show you have built it a good deck and can beat Synchro, as well as Xyz Deck. Serge second deck, his Earthbounds, represent rather obviously how he returned from the dead.
Furthermore, here comes the comparison. The difference and similarity between these two. In particular, their handlers, first Roget and Serge had a real bond, be it a weird one. When Serge was finally beaten by Jack, that is when Roget finally broke.
The Battle Beast was simply another tool for Sanders. Or perhaps, an example of a failed child. There was another member of Academia, whom was not formally part of any organization and did not play well in teams. Yuri. The Sanders and Yuri are noted to have the same hairstyle, it could be meaningless or important relationship. Both, Yuri and Battle Beast have issues with friends of the lack thereof, and both are Academia’s Secret Weapon.
Furthermore, Sanders, let us not forget did two things. First, he went and fought alongside Battle Beast when he needed help, and second berated him, and was disappointed. Furthermore, he used the same deck as Battle Beast, but when an authoritarian vibe to it. Yuri loneliness could have stemmed from being the son of the disciplinarian at the school. I will stop myself here, because I am getting into fanon.
What I was getting at is despite, seeing Battle Beast as a tool, unlike Roget, Sanders entered the fray directly. And not just did he entered the fray directly, he willingly accepted his carding. Roget refused to not just lose, but Death. He was a coward to the end, and despite having a real bond with Serge, in the end didn’t care. Sanders still saw the Battle Beast as a student he could teach and maybe improve on and ultimately cared for his students more than himself.
———————– ———————– ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling Loyalty
Now for the, basic 101 how to tell a treacherous Academia Soldier from a Loyalist. These cards tell us, at a glance aspects and things about a character before we even get a chance to really meet them.
The Loyalist, uses dogs. Or lupine themed beings as their primary Boss monsters. This is a representation of the loyalty of the dog. In irony, Serena and Sora both have wolf/lupine themed cards in real life (Dog and Crimson Fox) they never use in the show. It should be noted, like cats, dogs aren’t necessarily evil, with Barret and Sora, both are loyal to their homes if to a fault.
-Barret upon his return used wolf or lupine themed Boss monster’s vs Lancers. BeastBorg Wolf. Initially he only used Beastborg Panther, and took Serena to standard when he was supposed to keep her at home -The Juvenile Police and Obelisk Force iconic monsters are Dog Themed. They are completely loyal to Academia -Ironically Lunalight Wolf, a Pendulum, is one of the last cards Serena played is a wolf. -Sora upon his returned used Des Toy Wolf
Traitors or soon to be Traitors used Cat Themed Monsters. These represent the fickleness of kitty cats, and how in comparison to dogs, they are portrayed as mischievous. It is not however mean they are evil, as cats, here can also be something like a noble lion. Serena is an example of this. -Serena, her primary monsters are all Cat Themed. Her boss monster is Lio Dancer and her other Pendulum is Tiger -Sora, upon his return used Saber-Tiger as his primary Boss Monster -Grace first of the Amazoness to turn used Liger as her Boss -Battle Beast using the Gladiator Beast Noxious, is another example, this being the case -Leo, is in the name
Human Themed Boss, have conflictions about their role, and often betray or leave Academia. A notable exception of this is Captain Solo and Barret are notable exceptions. However Barret does betray Academia. They are treacherous, because as well as now know, Leo was a fool. The fact they could think through this, and make to a decision themselves, represents them thinking for themselves.
-Edo and Alexis Boss Monsters are both Humanoid Theme and conflicted about Academia’s mission in the End -Gloria, betrays Academia at her sisters Behest -Roget fused two Soldiers to make Ancient Gear Devil -Serena and Barret’s, cards are anthromorphic animals.
Now then time for Shinji and Resistance! Then we go to the final section, Lancers!
—————- —————- ARC-V Symbolism via Dueling, Shinji and the Resistance
Greetings friends, before we begin our final conversation about the Lancers, I will talk about the Anti-Hero’s Shinji, and La Resistance. Both of them are examples where what they commit result in them being no better than their foes. But now then about these two in particular, beside both being enemies then allies to our heroes, and having a sense of determination, why do I compare these two in particular?
Well first off, Shinji claims symbolic meeting behind his Bee Force. That Bee’s work together to create a better future. However, let us not forget they all serve the Queen Bee. And furthermore, remember the reason behind his story, (and even Enjiro), the Tops had better decks, better cards and beat him, regardless of their own skill. What Shinji shows is both his blindness as a person, and his own hate blinding him (just like Shun and Kaito). In his duel vs Ninjabro, his monsters were far more far aggressive, in fact he attacked the stadium without care and logic. He has aggravated, choose to stung. A result that would kill him.
The contrast as I will discuss in the Lancer’s Section, Ninjabro monsters were efficient direct and straight to the point. No unnecessary explosions, no unnecessary attacks. No endangering the Civilians. Shinji viva la revolution would hurt commons to. It was their shops being destroyed, it was their property being wrecked. And some like the kids, whom have yet to do anything we’re being threatened.
The B-Force schizophrenic strategy, his accusation of Tuning Magician being weak, is a perfect example of his blindness and lack of understanding. Furthermore, attacking the Goyo’s with regular run of the mill main deck monster, showed off his anger before reason. Now why I do compare him to the Resistance?
Well first off, we see Resistance using Mecha Phantom Beasts to defend vs Academia. These are mostly wind monsters first off to provide a contrast to Academia’s Earth. And furthermore, with the exception of Allen, every Resistance member has monster has wings of some kind. What are Mecha Phantom Beasts? A military like organization just like Academia. In addition, they were quick to distrust and discount outsides, when Yuya and company arrived in Xyz Dimension.
Just as Sora had discounted Yuya help, when he entered to help vs Yuto. In addition, Kaito would have carded the Lancers, despite them being their allies. All three of the main Resistance members (Kaito, Shun and Yuto), wished to seek vengeance on Academia and in their blindness missed the truth. Just as Shinji misses the truth that laid right in front of him. And the reality of the matter.
The point of the above comparison, is that Shinji and Resistance, show what happened when you give into blind hatred and reject 'egao’.
————- ————- ARC-V Symbolism Via Dueling- Setting
To tie this all together in the end. Is the following ideal, these character shows and represent our environment. Showing how parallel worlds, and differences have resulted in different characters and shaped their ideologies.
I did not discuss it here, but their decks and character also represent how they grew up different, in the case of the nostalgia characters. The bigger issue is that as shown via Dueling Assassins and comparable characters earlier on in the show. The difference represents how in each case their environment affected. However, let us get to the meat and potatoes, our heroes the lancers, and the shows core cast from season one to end of the show.
In the case of Academia, we see utterly ruthlessly individual who taking winning to the extreme. But also, value honor, and dignity. The city we see law and order above all, but a sense of curtailing of unnecessary violence. And finally, in regards to standard dimension, we see those who grew up and ultimately live for entertainment. In this we come to the eight lancers, who represent the various worlds of this show, and our heroes to save the day.
————— ————— What will we be ending on?
The final section is another characters who are the Show Original that became Lancers, bar the eight counter parts. These eight men and lady are the following. And will combined to create 4 Subsections.
The Lancers and Their Roles The Man and Sawatari Sora and Shun NinjaBro and Dennis Layra and Reiji
Then we will have a final discussion, regarding a point mentioned throughout the Egao.
