Do you have pictures of the new restaged tour costumes yet? Do they still do the stripped down look?

According to MY gospel... the UK leg of the tour (2012-2013) was an absolute disgrace. The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am. I have never been more appalled by a professional POTO production. Luckilly the Maria Bjørnson estate put their foot down, so some of the costumes was amended. But the reinterpreted ballroom Masquerade and some undecorated costumes remained throughout. A special shout-out to the "flour girls" ballerina costumes in Il Muto, and the "Satyr" wearing half a Masquerade-Monkey-Girl costume...

When the tour hit the US in 2013 (-2020) some of these costumes were kept, or new copies made, but they merged them with rather opulent, unaltered US costumes. So the total was stripped-down-meets-large-scale, which was a bit confusing. But in large an improvement from the UK. As an example the new Sylvan Glade costumes. It was not Maria Bjørnson's original design per se - but at least reflecting on her mint/floral scheme, with corseted bodices and bell shaped skirts.

When the tour hit Australia in 2022-2023 a UK costume supervisor who knew Bjørnson's work well was hired to brush things up, and she made sure the original vision to some degree was restored. It meant the Phantom regained his fedora and traditional tailcoat PLUS a good mask, Christine's Star Princess costume had a hint of stars and moon, Carlotta's Managers dresses had trims and tassels, and her Masquerade costume had accessories and overall a coherent look, the Phantom's uniform Red Death was blinged up etc etc. In addition a lot of accessories - tiaras, jewellery, proper boots, whatnot - was added. It is the best the Restaged Tour has looked, costume wise.

Here they also restored the Sylvan Glade costumes to their original look, minus the flowers. Most or all US costumes seemed to be gone in Australia, probably due to ownership/budget. To add to the stock, the Aussie tour was supplemented with a lot of new/newer UK costumes, along with the old UK stock.

I won't say the Aussie production was perfect. For example, the ballroom vibe for Masquerade is still very much present, with generic black/white tailcoats for the men, and non-themed long dresses for the women. But at least the tailcoat clad men has been given a mask, and the women's costumes blinged or semi-themed up. The Victorian costumes were also boosted, or simply taken back to what Maria Bjørnson designed.

Am I exaggerating? I don't think so. Compare Angela M. Caesar's red Managers costume in the UK Tour compared to Giuseppina Grech's costume in Australia - for Angela's costume they removed all trims and decorations (as there were clear traces of previous decorations and seams in closeups), while Giuseppina's costume was fully decorated as per the design:

This might seem like a minor issue. But layers on layers on layers was Bjørnson's thing, and if you remove a large part of this you have an unfinished costume, one that should not be on stage. I am glad the Aussie leg of the tour amended this.

I have only seen a handful of curtain call photos from Austria and their previews so far, but it looks to me like they continue in the vein of Australia, albeit with the presence of a handful of US costumes. And as I type this I remembered all the souvenirs in Vienna making fun of tourists mixing up Austria and Australia. Heh. If pulling up a photo of Katie Hall in her undecorated (and to be honest quite wrinkly!) wedding dress VS Lisanne Veeneman's Vienna wedding dress I can't see it as anyting than an improvement.

That's the vibe from all rehearsal + curtain call photos I have seen so far. So yeah, Vienna appears to keep up the costume work from Australia, and I think that is a good thing. It means fully decorated costumes WITH accessories...

...and going back to original design as far as possible, including good wigwork etc. My major complaint will forever be Masquerade, but compared to how the Restaged Tour started in the UK in 2012 it is in a MUCH better place today. And I guess that is what we can ask for?

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

Lol. Well, yeah. She definitely behaves differently around different people. And Evander is certainly aware of that.

Malika has lived her life making it her business to know... Is there a nice way to say this? No, I don't think there is, so-- ahem-- To know how to exploit people.

Her primary drive is to do what Malika wants to do and get what Malika wants to get. This doesn't mean she doesn't have the capacity for generosity (she does!) or that she's a mercilessly evil villain (she's not!). She just thinks that what she wants in the moment is always more important than what someone else wants. And if putting on different personas (conning people) is what will get her what she wants, she rarely hesitates.

Most people Malika meets are strangers/temporary acquaintances. She does not have a wide circle of deep friendships; she has an ever expanding warzone of strangers she has completely fucked over. The only thing that has kept them from exacting revenge on her is that she has burned every bridge leading out.

For those who become more "long-term acquaintances" (this usually entails that they are thieves/criminals like her) she is charming, sarcastic, a bit flirtatious and absolutely never ever ever around in any capacity other than the one the relationship demands ("we're co-workers, not friends.")

She dances in and out of the lives of the select few she actually does consider true friends. Playful, mischievous, generous, and actually fairly considerate, a kinder side of the typically self-interested Keeper comes out. She'll listen to concerns and even try to help solve them. Though this help is well-meaning it maybe causes more trouble for the friend rather than less in the long run... She'll invite the friend out on adventures and might even open up....some... to them here and there.

Best friends? Or long-term lovers?

Well. These are rare. But they'll ultimately see behind all her masks and see her, vulnerabilities and asshole tendencies all, for exactly who she is. That's exactly the thing she's afraid of! She has no upper hand and no control once someone sees her for who she really is. Because of that, the number of people she has wanted in this category in the past was zero.

And now it's two.

Family: Her only family is Maeryn and, like her best friends/lovers, Maeryn knows all there is to know about Malika. And sticks around anyway! Only Nymeia knows why...

"...First of all, I would know who you are, and where you are from. Why you were in Vasyri at the time of the attack, as well. Once that is out of the way, you may share with me whatever it was you requested my presence for."

When Sivel had first entered the room, the being laid in bed looked surprised to see him. Relieved, it seemed, though confused as to why he was there.

It took a bit of time to explain who he was, but once that had been done, he was met with a laugh. A quip about how of all people to be saved by, it was the one that she had been trying to find in the first place. Which had left the pair here.

"My name is Sahrin, Your Majesty-- or should I address you as Luminary?" The ruler's head shakes, and he waves a hand as if to say that he had no preference either way, so she continues on. "Then, I'll just call you by your name...it's less nerve wracking, that way. My name is Sahrin. It's a pleasure to officially meet you, Sivel. I'm a nephilim, originally from the Zental Port in Gaea, the mortal realm, and like I said before, I came here to find you. To warn you, more specifically...though I feel like I was a little late with that..."

"Originally from Zental Port?"

"Mmhm. I was abducted from there some time ago, by a group that called themselves Ma'ilach. We were held somewhere just outside of Wilacri. Recently, I managed to get away, but...I heard a lot of things during my time there. Plans that they were making."

Ma'ilach (Or, 'Dragon's Eye', as it could be roughly translated to from Wilacrian) was a well known, and long standing group that once (and arguably still to this day, though that was primarily speculation and rumor) had the single largest hold on the interrealm's black markets. Smugglers and traffickers, able to get their hands on anything and everything...for the right price, of course. There was a long while that they were even known for their experimentations on all different species, with their research being used for the development of a great many horrendous inventions and concoctions.

It was a group once run by someone that Sivel had been acquainted with for some time now...Helai. A dragon whom, from what he had told Sivel, not only stepped down as the group's head, but disbanded it altogether. That had been at the time when Wilacri's current ruling body all but single-handedly destroyed the entirety of the black market's existence in the realm.

"It was my understanding that Ma'ilach ceased to exist some few hundred-- or even thousand-- years ago, now." Sivel began, only to stiffen before he could ask Sahrin for some kind of proof. His gaze grew distant, and mouth fell open slightly as if to gasp.

Gasp, ragged and sharp, as he'd felt Iomhar do. But he managed to hold back.

As though he were in excruciating pain, soon every one of Iomhar's breaths that the Vasyrus could feel against his own chest burned. He was screaming. He was hurting. Being hurt.

His air was coming short, searing, and it took everything Sivel had in him to keep from rushing back to Seelie. Alsina was there. Alsina was with Iomhar, and she could keep her cool much better than Sivel in a situation like this. Being close to Iomhar now would only make things worse for him.

"--el? Sivel!"

Sahrin was out of bed now, and at the king's side, but he didn't seem to notice it at first. It wasn't until he felt a few taps on the chair he was seated on that he seemed to come to his senses enough to finally look at her.

"Oh! Oh, you're alright! Thank the gods, I thought for a moment that I would have to call for the healers to help you. You scared me!"

"It was...it was nothing, please return to your bed. I apologize for startling you so suddenly. I was being...called by one of my advisors about something rather serious, so we will need to hurry this along. What did you say?"

"I was only going to show you the mark that they put on me...I had always heard Ma'ilach had dispersed as well, and though these people could have just taken up the name...I don't know. I'm only telling you what I heard in my time there. The specifics are something I think you would be better suited to looking into, than I would be."

Gritting his teeth through the distraction, Sivel took in the marking that seemed to have been branded around Sahrin's wrist. It was something he recognized from having seen on Helai a handful of times, as well. Nearly identical, even in the layout of the runes embedded in the skin to prevent it the mark from fading away with the original wound.

...He would have to meet with the dragon, later. After this, and after he saw Iomhar again.

At least now, he could contact Ranadi to give him a more specific criteria for his search.

"The things you heard while you were trapped by them...I assume that is what you wished to speak with me about?" She nods in response to the king's question, and he motions for her to go on. Iomhar's breathing had returned to normal by now, but it was so sudden...he must have lost consciousness. Sivel's hands were clenched so tightly in his lap that he couldn't hide how it made them tremble...though at the very least, he was able to keep his wings from reverberating in the frantic rhythm that they so wanted to. "...Go on, then. You have my attention."

Or as much of it as possible, given the circumstances.

good night imma go to sleep with the thought that Ethan’s death in the main game was him all alone in fear and in pain and without any proper goodbyes and broken by the thought he’d never watch his daughter grow up, the daughter for whose safety he was dying in the first place

and his “death” in Shadows of Rose was him being held in Rose’s arms, not only seeing Rose grown up but also seeing how she grew from uncertainty and hate for herself into confidence and self-love, being able to express his love and pride for her, hearing Rose tell him she loves him, staying by his side and holding him close, and even though he was still in pain he was not alone. He could smile, and be happy, and be proud. He could be at peace.

Turning Red really fucking blew my mind like I'm starting to come up with an entire essay about why asexual representation has to come hand-in-hand with sexual liberation and the disappearance of shameful horniness

Like we cannot confidently say that people will see ace representation and immediately understand they're ace if they haven't been exposed to what NOT being ace is, if we do not make it clear that hi, people are having sex irl because it feels good and because their minds are really begging them to do it not because they feel they "have" to

Like as an asexual I can GUARANTEE you that a lot of us do not understand how much and how POWERFULLY allos vibe with sex in media, because we're taking it as yet another extreme and stereotype Hollywood throws at us. And because The Church still has so much power, that sex depiction is limited and only used for "specific purposes" as if making people horny isn't a legitimate purpose.

And good ace representation cannot exist with that limit set. If clueless ace people don't know what it is they don't feel, they will not understand that the ace representation is there for them, that it's meant to help them understand and explore their own sexuality (or lack thereof). Sex exists in media, but it exists WRONG when it comes to people understanding and exploring their sexuality. It's there for show and shock and "it's not for children" when it should be there for "It's a thing humans do, it's a thing humans like, it's a thing 99% of the population will relate to".

And if that is set right, the 1% that will not relate to it, they will see asexual representation and (probably) immediately be like "Oh that's why I don't get any of it lol." Because they will KNOW what it is they DON'T feel. And I cannot stress how much, as an asexual, understanding you DON'T feel something so common it's barely even discussed because everyone takes it for granted, is one of the hardest things to do.

My #1 post of 2022

I love how even silly short missions manage to have their share of wholesomeness and family connection. It's like family is important in a series called Spy x Family or something.

Anyway, Anya is a kid that gets very attached to certain things - and despite being bold enough to use the knowledge she has due to her telepathy in order to make Loid do what she wants, she's not exactly a spoiled kid. She still sticks to Mr. Chimera, the only toy she had while she was in the orphanage. She doesn't ask for new clothes, or toys, or gadgets, what she asks for is experiences (the castle rescue, adopting Bond in specific after she was emotionally invested in him)... and peanuts, too.

So to her, the penguin plush is not just one toy from her plethora of toys that got ruined. It's a toy that her dad got for her. It's a souvenir of their aquarium adventure, where she helped him locate the penguin he needed to find and even arrest the criminal who wanted to get the secret information about the weapon. It's a reminder of how she took part and helped him in his mission. Just a replacement stuffed penguin won't do. It's not the toy itself, it's the memories connected to it. I mean, of course she's sad a toy of her got destroyed - by the dog she asked to have, no less - but it hurts even more knowing what this toy means to her.
