re: the minase post, where does prisma illya fit into this? as someone halfway through the fourth season it doesn't seem to do anything particularly well, even when he remembers that it's a fate entry (which should be the stronger sections, according to your theory). Is it just too early in his career, before he had much experience?

minase is one of the screenwriters for the prisma illya anime adaptions but the manga is written and drawn by hiroshi hiroyama

prisma illya also suffers very bad from "pretty much all the good parts are when it's rehashing previous fate works and it sucks ass when the author is having opinions about women" though

because the thing about prillya is it COULD have been good!!!! theres nothing inherently iredeemable about this concept!! ilya as a magical girl? absolutely baller! ilya's darker/mature aspects and the negative side of her personality and feelings manifesting as an archer-esque other self? fantastic! perfect for a magical girl setting! ilya having a rival she is also gay with and her other self being more open about her affections than she herself is bc she's ilya's unfiltered self? wonderful! iri is there! there's a full emiya family there! i remember how excited everyone were about prillya anime before it aired because they thought we'd finally be getting emiya family content! except hiroyama hiroshi has like zero interest in actually DOING anything with any of that, the only decent character beats are either totally out of nowhere or come from making mishmash references and calling back to other, better stories and making us go 'hey this is just like the other thing i like' or 'this reminds me of the thing i like', like he's freaking j j abrams or some shit, instead of using any of his creative energy in the story proper because he's too busy being horny to write a fucking story and just BE A WRITER

I feel a bit embarrassed but while Saber Alter is one of my favorite servants, this series was the first time I actually saw her and started liking her. Finding out she was an actual character later on just made her better.
