How does Chibi spend a peaceful stormy Saturday?  By drawing Bandidge! But! Swapped! I wanted to work with Altean Pidge and Earthling Bandor again as I had done before. While Pidge’s outfit is mostly the same, some minour changes, I completely redid Bandor’s outfit, though it does have some of the same colour schemes to it that his outfit did in canon. And! Suspenders hanging down!

Good gods, regardless of the AU, these two would be straight up adorable.

rotating the Mer AU, and how each mer character looks in mer form this afternoon, starting with Keith.

Since he's only half Galra Mer, he's nowhere near as large as others of his kind... but he is still considerably larger than an Altean Mer by at least twice their size. He has the purple skin and scales that are commonly associated with Galra Mer, and his eyes glow bright yellow- but he also has a scattering of bright red scales that are bio-luminescent. He has sharp teeth and claws, and his hair takes on a more purple hue. He's actually missing scales in places where other Mer have them- his hands and arms, and the area around his back fin are completely scale free.

(The size difference between his human and Mer forms takes everyone off guard, and makes the fact that his human form is below average height even funnier.)

Galra mers are usually bio-luminescent in some way, whereas Altean mers only display this trait when it comes to the markings on their cheeks. Altean mers look much more humanoid in general, though they generally have more pointed ears in addition to the fist parts.

Lance's scales are a lot of flashy blue colors, that stand out more when he's on the surface than he does in the ocean. His markings are a deep blue, and his back fin is slightly torn from a childhood mishap, though not enough to impair his ability to swim. He is self-conscious about it nonetheless!

Allura's scales are soft pinks and vivid blues, with bright pink markings. Romelle's scales are bright pink and teal colors, in comparison to Bandor's deep green scales. Coran's scales are a very vivid orange, with just a little blue mixed in! Alfor's scales are mostly red, with a little blue mixed in.

Shiro takes after Altean mers in terms of size, but he has teeth and claws comparable to those of a Galra mer. He is very specifically patterned after orcas in my head. While he's still under Haggar's control, his eyes glow a vivid yellow, but they return to his normal shade once he's back in control of himself. He has no markings.

Introducing Earendel, my latest attempt to play an arcane archer in this game. Yes, I named him after Tolkien's Eärendil (using the original Anglo-Saxon spelling from his source) because I suck at coming up with original names, and even gave him the surname "Mariner" as a nod to the character. But that's not his profession, he just inherited the name from his mother Elwith, a human bard. His father was an elf who died in battle when he was an infant, but even though he never knew him he was brought up on stories about his adventures by his mother. Hence he is obsessed with his elven roots.

As part of this backstory I cheated a little by starting him off in the Prelude with a Cloak of Elvenkind (Hide +10). Another fun little thing I'm doing is giving him progressively better magic lutes from the Shadows of Undrentide campaign module as he progresses as a bard (which he will be doing very slowly). At the moment he possesses the Fochluchan Bandore which he can use to cast Light once per day. His voiceset is the Archer which is one of the funnier ones and a joy to hear.

I made a rookie mistake with this character because I don't often play rangers. No biggie, just been having him fight with both a longsword and the Dagger +1 because I didn't realise Dual Wield is disabled by medium armour. From now on I'll be having him use a longsword single-handedly, but eventually I'll give him Weapon FInesse because I want his main weapon to be the Feyduster short sword. He's primarily an archer anyway.

He'll also eventually obtain Linu's Pendant of the Elf and Tomi's Ring of the Rogue, giving him a much-needed boost to dexterity, and of course, Sharwynn's Belt of the Performer to enhance his bard song. I'm really looking forward to him obtaining the Elven Court Bow at the end of this chapter because it's the perfect reward for him RP-wise. Also with the Mighty +3 property he'll be able to add his paltry +1 Strength modifier to the damage roll (and the full amount under the effect of something like Bull's Strength).

Anyway, I'm enjoying playing this character so much that I might even finish the game with him. But then, I say that about almost every new player character I create and I still haven't gotten past Chapter Two. ;)

In a role swap au, where Romelle is a Human, she would most likely have a character arc alike the one Pidge had when she lost her brother in the Kerberos mission.

Now, unlike Matt, Bandor is the younger brother and would probably not be chosen to be part of the mission, even if he's quite skilled/smart, which means that he will most likely get pulled into the group finding the Lion instead - which could lead to him getting separated / captured later on in the show.

A second option coukd be that Romelle and Bandor, like in the 80's version, also have an older brother who then would be chosen for the mission. Or perhaps she had a close friend instead. Romelle would then get a character arc like Pidge, where she questions the reports of there being a crash and with the help of Bandor tries to find more answers.

The two of them would then sneak out to try and find any signals from space, thus discovering the word "Voltron".

Ever sense I saw The Hidden World (April 2019) I have had an idea for how the final battle should have gone. Here is a summary of it.

If I had a chance to write a fiction for every major turning point in the fiction, I would’ve explained Grimmel’s motive and background more, just so this ending made more sense.

It begins the same, Grimmel caging the dragons, withholding Toothless, etc. The only difference is it explains Grimmel's thoughts. He tries to kill Toothless this early bc he knew toothless could escape at any moment, he wanted to finish his quest to kill the Night Furies, and gave the warlords no heads up just to spite them for their cold attitude to him.

Then everything goes as it does in the movie, the Riders manually free all the dragons (picking off crew members as they went), Grimmel saw that Berk was getting the upper hand and commanded the Deathgrippers to attack. More and more Berkians were brought to the armada. He loosed a Deathgripper to escape, and abandoned his airship with the furies in tow, concluding his life and his confrontation with Hicc mattered more. Grimmel took a sword from a fallen man, and went to fight Hiccup. After a short Hiccstrid moment, Astrid goes to help Toothless.

Here is a quick passage from what i wrote:

“Hiccup and Grimmel frowned at each other, Grimmel approached in strong, graceful strides, they gripped their hilts tightly, then charged. The clashing of swords was heard all around. The wind blew furiously, the fire flared like red banners, and the sky was filled with smoke and dragons. [...]“

There was a brief description of what everyone else was doing, then we come back to Hicc and Grim. They start to talk to each other, Grim basically says “look at what you’ve become” thinking bandoring to dragons is pathetic, and Hicc rebuts with a comment that he is without reason just like Drago. Grimmel shrugs this off as Hicc lying to himself. The storm blows stronger as they fight.

This is where I got stumped bc I didn’t know how to segway from this to them getting into an argument about how they suffered bc of dragons or without dragons. Or how they would realize the other is much more sympathetic than they imagined. But they would eventually stop the fight. Berkians and Trappers would stop and realize they shouldn’t hate each other, and help each other onboard undamaged ships. Hiccup and Grimmel discuss the whole reason I write all this: excusing the dragons departure by mentioning not just that dragons becoming too trusting of humans, nor just that most humans will always live in fear of dragons, but also dragons will always fight humans as long as they are afraid. Fear and vengeance for those that are lost is something they can’t eliminate from everyone. So Hiccup and Ragnar negotiate a truce, (whether or not they go to the back of the island as they do in the movie idk), the Berkians have the ceremonious, emotional departure they do in the movie, except Grimmel and maybe a few others are there. And both sides see this as permanent peace. Perhaps the villains think "the fight is over" not proud of themselves, just relieved it's over, crying a tear of joy

I might also include that Toothless returned to lead other dragons to the Hidden World. That too was never specified.

Anyway, that’s my summary of my fiction.

Product Characteristics: Mushroom is made from Wood Mache - a mass of wood powder which is imposed layer by layer (3-4 layers as a whole). It takes about 2 days for each one to dry naturally. It is utterly important not to speed up the drying process as this may result cracks. Then the product is primed, sanded and polished. Thin top layer has all the wood properties and can be personalized with different types of paints, varnishes and glazes. The professional artist paints on the end ware taking into account what I propose. Therefore NO napkin technique/decoupage is used. Afterwards mushroom is covered with several layers of vitreous lacquer. The image is displayed in traditional Petrikivka manner. Petrykivska painting was born in the Ukrainian village of Petrykivka. Ukrainian house used to differ with comfort and cleanliness for many years. Each mistress wanted to decorate her home with painted walls, dishes, chests, stoves, bandores, benches with bright flowers, plants, berries. The earliest known examples of this style date from the 17th century, but it continues to thrive and develop as a modern art form. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine recognized Petrykivka painting as a part of intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine, and was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Petrykivka painting has become a "brand" in Ukrainian popular culture. The product has to be treated as porcelain as it is extremely fragile. Do not drop it, hit or squeeze.

It’s like... it feels like knowing that there is a garden next door, and you can smell the flowers, but they aren’t yours to take and they weren’t yours to grow. As weak as she is, as much as she needs it to recover, it’s not working. Pidge wonders, briefly, if it’s a Lions thing, a Voltron thing, because the connection with the others had been so intense, so revitalizing, and this... she can feel the attempt, and she appreciates it, but it’s not integrating like it should.

“keep it,” she gently tells Bandor instead, voice hoarse from so much use today. “and be well.”

Yup. My brain wanted to swap these two, making Pidge an Altean and Bandor a human. My brain is trying to think of so many things, including Bandor as the green paladin and Pidge as a scientist/alchemist in training and quite possibly Coran’s niece?  I based Pidge’s outfit, more or less, on Romelle’s, with slight changes, especially colour,  And! If this scene looks familiar, it should. It be a redraw to this.

I feel like Pidge won’t find Bandor’s ears hideous, though. I think she’d find them small, round, and adorable.

Roleswap AU: Altean!Holt Family, human!Allura... I found this buried in my drafts from before Romelle was even on the show.

Have some old edits of Pidge and Matt.

10,000 years ago, King Samuel and Queen Colleen sent their children from Altea so they would survive, just in case Zarkon managed to destroy the planet. Matt was sent with Coran to Arus, along with a puppy called Bae Bae.

Katie was supposed to reach one of the Altean colonies, but for some reason, she didn’t. It was for the best, as they were destroyed at around the same time as Altea. Instead, she crash-landed and woke up many years before Voltron would return.

A year before Voltron’s return, Shiro is on Kerberos, along with Commander Alfor Brooks and his niece Romelle. Alfor’s daughter is currently studying at the Garrison in Astrochemistry. When she learns of the crash, Allura begins to look into it and barely manages to not get kicked out of the Garrison.

She has four pet mice at home, and wants to find her dad and cousin and defeat Zarkon before they die. They’re currently in Bandor’s care.

On the night of them finding Shiro, Lance follows Allura because he thinks she’s cute. Hunk really wishes that Lance would not do this because they always get in trouble and hey look, now they’re committing treason

Keith recognizes Allura because she helped him find out about Shiro. He still doesn’t remember Lance, though.

When the group meets Matt, both Allura and Shiro mentally call dibs.

Allura pilots Blue, Hunk Green, Keith Yellow, and Lance Red.

Rolo and Nyma initially prepare to lure in Voltron and steal one of the lions when they see Matt. Suddenly, they realize that they have to do the right thing, if only for the fourth (and simultaneously both oldest and youngest) member of their crew.

“Hey, Pidge?” Rolo calls. “You should really come see this.”

“Can’t I just make sure we have stuff for the co- I mean, the thing we’re doing?”

“This guy looks a hell of a lot like you!”

Matt’s baby sister is supposed to be a child, the Altean equivalent of an eleven-year-old. She’s not supposed to be an angry looking adolescent smuggler who grew up without him. Then again, she’s also supposed to be dead, and she isn’t.

Day One: Altean / Galra

The Galaxy couldn’t believe it. The Universe barely believed it. In the wake of the Galra empire’s fall, a wedding between a Galra paladin of Voltron and an Altean was the last thing anyone could have predicted.

It’s a simple ceremony, attended by friends and family. But they’re both simple people. A small house in the middle of the wilderness suit them both fine.

He has little knowledge of Galra heritage, being raised on earth his whole life. Even his history with the Blades of Marmora is clinical and professional, so he never quite fit in with either.

She has little knowledge of Earth, being raised in an Altean colony and her new husband’s only contact with such people is a century out of date at least.

But that’s okay.

There’s no judging in their home. No need to prove themselves or fit in.

She is her.

He is him.

That is all they need from each other.

That should be all the universe needs of them, too.

Day Two: Markings / Scars

 She kisses every scar that crisscrosses his body like cracks the desert ground. He runs his hands down each of the markings that run like rivers down her’s.

The markings on her cheeks glow with pleasure when he kisses them and the peace on his face when she kisses the scar on the left side of his face is pure serenity.

Day Three: Flight / Gravity

The flight back home from their honeymoon (an odd phrase, she muses, when they went to neither a moon nor partook of honey) is nearly interrupted when their ship stalls mid-flight, hit by an asteroid. Their artificial gravity stalls and they float through the air. She suggests they call his brother, Shiro, for a tow.

Day Four: Quintessence

She feels it growing inside her. An egg. A tiny meld of life energies brought together by the emotions and connection of two beings. She asks Allura, her queen, about human/Altean births and what to expect.

Allura smiles and shakes her head, telling her she doesn’t know. And that’s both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

Day Five: Lost / Found

He can’t find Bandor anywhere! He took his eyes off of him for two minutes to keep Kosmo from chewing up the couch and when he comes back his son is gone!

He calls his mother, the other paladins, the Blades, he’s going crazy with worry.

It’s not until Romelle comes home to find he’s torn up the house that he checks the baby monitor (on her suggestion) and finds that Bandy has been asleep in his crib this whole time.

Day Six: Trust / Betrayal

It feels like a betrayal of trust when they find out what had happened on that last mission. Keith had been captured and there had been a time when he had been unconscious.

The people who had captured him had milked him! For eugenics!

It looks like him, but a Galra version of him.

Regret paints his face, shame colors his apology, and he says he understands if she wants to leave him.

She kisses him.

They name the baby Akira, after Keith’s father.

Day Seven: Home

Bandor is twenty now, sneaking glances at Princess Junera and enrolled in the Galaxy Garrison as Lance’s best student. Akira is seventeen, non-binary, and trying to get a vintage auto shop off the ground.

Keith is working to turn the Blades of Marmora into a relief organization. His mother was currently staying at their house to make sure Romelle isn’t lonely.

Voltron was long gone, the Lions flying off to parts unknown.

The other paladins had found new destinies, new routes to fulfillment and happiness.

And so had she.

She would begin looking for work soon.

Maybe she would be a teacher, working with children. There were many Altean children who needed to know happened to Altea and how the people had come back from the brink.

But the truth she knew, as her husband embraced her, was that this was home.

Her mother in law embraced them both from behind and Kosmo was leaping onto them and licking all their faces.

This was home.
