I've been freaking out over this for a week, and today I finally had my appointment, and everyone I spoke to was so warm and friendly! I did NOT expect to walk away with a prescription today, like I figured that would be too good to be true, I'd probably have to come back for a follow-up before that happened, but no! The doc was like 'I want to do a few tests to make sure there's nothing we need to worry about, so I'm ordering these labs,' and I was like 'okay,' thinking that the T would come after those were squared away, but THEN she was immediately like 'and I'm also putting in a prescription for androgel' ajauhsbehdehjejbs

said prescription is being processed at the pharmacy, so we'll see how long I have to wait before I can pick it up. I'm so fucking excited. I can't believe this is happening.

Always such a stark difference when my mother is talking to her family! She can be a handful at the best of times, but there’s nothing like her newfound habit of cutting people off mid-word to explain how they are wrong about concepts in a conversation. Specifically concepts that she had explained to her previously, because she didn’t know wtf it was.

Her son is also having a minor, self-made crisis right now with regards to his housing, and it’s been an absolute trip to watch her argue things like “he’s being racially discriminated against in his housing applications!”. Because: yes, he undoubtedly is, we’re not white, and we are ambiguous enough in appearance to get mistaken as whatever minority people generally feel the most negative towards in the moment.

But if I or my sister mention that people are being actively racist to us - anything short of actually using slurs! - it’s hyperbole, and time for her to jump through hoops to explain how really, they weren’t being racist at all. This has also gotten strikingly more common since she began talking to her siblings again, because of course it has.

The solution to both of these is just not to have these conversations with her, haha. I decided about two or three years ago that, actually, just fucking ending conversations when people are being insipid or just very silly is absolutely valid, and it’s taken so much stress off of my shoulders in pretty much all of my social life. People can bait, but you don’t actually have to take the bait? People can say what they want, and they are not actually obliged to the privilege of your response? Sounds fake, but it turns out, it’s totally true!

Still grating, though! I do like hearing her opinions on things occasionally. And I do prefer to not be placed into situations where I feel as if I’m the one being rude, by effectively nipping off conversations when they become intolerable. But heyyy, I’ll worry about that when.. my heart rate isn’t doubling and then dropping at random for fucking funsies, lol. Nothing makes you feel quite as valid in your stress management practices than being given a medical reason to try and stay way more calm than usual.
