A few weeks ago, Wilbur revealed that he was actually from Utah. Does reader know? Or were they just as clueless as chat? i realized something a bit ago- when talking about the by nature!au and my plans, i never mentioned bad or skeppy! sooo let me do that now,, dkdbdkdbdj

here’s some quick art i made of them today, mostly through memory. i forgot skeppy’s gems + his whole outfit in general, and gave him a hat he didn’t originally have(also i completely forgot how to do his hair),, and bad didn’t originally have his cloak while he was a rovenger,, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

okay- quick little refresher on backstory, since it has been a while since i talked about by nature in general, let alone bad and skeppy,, but-

bad is dream and sapnap’s adoptive father,, who ~mysteriously disappeared~ one day.

turns out- he met skeppy, that day. i forget how, but he did, and he learned that borrowers were sapient creatures, just like rovengers. so- he and skeppy bonded, and they ran away together.

i forget why he couldn’t bring the dream team with him — maybe he thought they enjoyed eating borrowers too much?

or maybe he was discovered like ranboo was, and that’s caused him to run away with skeppy.

either way- he misses his boys so much, but he just- he can’t go back.

the two traveled a lot. sometimes they traveled under the guise of two borrowers, but most of the time bad was in his rovenger form, with skeppy on his back/head. they even met sam and ponk, once.

i wanted the two to reunite with the dream team, in the future. i’m not sure if i ever came up with a concrete idea i liked a lot, but still- they deserve to reunite.

i’m.. not sure if i’ll ever continue this au, though..?

due to.. not-as-recent events regarding dream, i feel a little uncomfortable writing him, mostly as a non-antagonist. i know i mostly base all the characters i write on the dream smp versions, not the content creators, but- still.

maybe i will return to by nature, maybe i won’t. who knows. either way, this au was a lot of fun.

I don't know if this is a wierd question but I've kind of been wanting to watch the dsmp for a while but I have no idea where to start, like do I pick someone and just watch all of their streams chronologically or just some streams or????? help please I am lost and confused (feel free to ignore!)

I think that in relation to the Dream SMP you need to realise that it's very long, and that are different POVs with different arcs going on.

I watched the Dream SMP for more than 2 years, and it's probably really daunting to just start now.

My recommendation is usually BlueberryTV's video summaries of the seasons but she does more long term summaries of events, all with VODs.

This post here lists a bunch of options

Besides the link with the Dream SMP animatics (which unfortunately only goes until Wilbur's streaam called Inconsolable Differences, one my favourites and one of the only streams I know the title of by memory, which despite being already season 4 there's still some streams afterwards) there's also two links provided. [Link 1] is a link to Blueberry TV and [Link 2] is a link to the affectionately called "Netflix Dreams SMP Carrd". This Carrd contains links to video summaries if the VODs all beautifully organised

If you look around and see EvanMCGaming as a recommendation all I tell you is that Dsmpblr as a whole usually discourages watching his summaries. They're convenient however they either miss a lot of very important events and information (things like not mentioning Fundy is Wilbur's son or Philza is Wilbur's dad which makes the story less engaging at best and confusing at worse, sometimes he also just straight up tells things that are wrong and there's a lot headcanons and opinions on characters that aren't the reality presented in text. Me as a Wilburian and the Inniters usually have a lot deslike for Evan's portrayal of Wilbur and Tommy as these two characters have arcs revolving around very delicate topics that involve mental health, abuse, even some ablism I'd say and let's just say Evan definitely didn't do those topic's the nuance they deserved...

Another thing is that I love animatics but they also can be quite biased. My recommendation is to watch the summary of a stream/event then search for the animatics about it. Animatics are good in the way that they make us more excited for lore (at least to me) and they're art so there can be some interesting discussions an artist can bring up with them.

My last recommendation is if you like lore analysis check out The Pandora Project. They are also here on Tumblr as @/the-pandora-project. Very good and well thought out analysis. It's pretty much a Dream SMP lore podcast.

Okay so I was going through old drafts and I found this one from MARCH 26TH 2021 AND MAN.

I feel like the Dream SMP is one of those things where you have to have been there to fully experience and enjoy it. I'm not saying people 5 years from now won't be able to watch all the VODs and enjoy/understand the story. I'm just saying I don't think people 5 years from now will fully be able to appreciate and experience what makes the Dream SMP so good. To be put it simply, I think one of the things that makes the Dream SMP so good is the ability to watch the story unfold in real time and find things out at the same time as the characters. Watching VODs is cool and works great if you can't watch certain streams live but watching events or plot point play out live is such a unique, immersive experience

Another thing that makes it more enjoyable for me personally is just how fleshed out all the characters are and how all these different stories and arcs are happening at the same time(although that does make it hard to keep up with sometimes lol). Or how you can watch different/multiple POVs to get a better understanding of a situation or gain information/insight that some other viewers might not know from watching a specific POV. Unfortunately I feel like people in the future will probably stick to watching only Tommy or Techno's or maybe Ranboo's POV, which is a shame because it means they'll probably not fully understanding/miss out on the Pet War, C! Niki's arc, C! Jack Manifold's arc, THE ENTIRETY OF C! FUNDY'S CHARACTER(rip), the slow rise of the Eggpire, C! Eret's redemption arc(also C! Eret as a whole), El Rapids, the Badlands in general, Dreamon Hunters, *insert most canon romantic relationships*, C! Hannah existing, C! Puffy's backstory and so much more.

Spoilers for Double Life SMP!!

man, i just finished watching Joel’s episode and while i’m literally so excited about SmallEtho, i can’t stop thinking about Lizzie not being there. and all i keep thinking about is that Lizzie wasn’t in 3rd Life either, and Joel had her back, only for her to be gone again.

to be clear, i love Joel and Etho being soulmates!! i couldn’t be more excited bc this couldn’t have been a more perfect duo to bring havoc to the server, but also,,, imagining how back in 3rd Life, Joel feeling so lonely. it always felt like something (someone) was missing, but he couldn’t figure out what. so he built himself a place and surrounded himself in pets bc perhaps the company will help?

however, no matter how many blankets he had, or how many wolves he befriended and laid with him at night, he could never shake the ever present loneliness and the cold, emptiness in his bones that something was missing. and it stayed that way until Last Life when he saw her.

he was drawn to her instantly. he couldn’t explain what it was. perhaps it was as simple as she was beautiful, and he wanted to know her. and in a world of death and vicious games, he tried to gain her attention the best way he knew how— pestering her and trying to steal her lives. and maybe it wasn’t the best way of getting attention, but it worked, didn’t it?

for some reason, he would always find his way back to her. and eventually, he remembered why.

on those rare nights when he’d actually be able to sleep, he’d dream of massive, colorful structures made of vibrant oranges, greens, and reds. he’d dream of a seemingly endless ocean wrapping around the shoreline, its sparkling, ever clear waves beckoning him in. he’d dream about what lies across those waters, pristine white towers with their rich, lovely pink tops lined with bright blue. he’d dream of lilypads that were large enough for shops and tiny homes. he’d dream of walking along the paths. he’d dream of spotting flowing pink hair out the corner of his eye, and turning his head to see a figure, only for the silhouette to disappear.

as the weeks went on, he would slowly garner more and more pieces. he could still sometimes hear the echo of fond giggles in his ear upon waking up. the sound would settle like a comfortable warmth in his chest. and when he recalled images of blurry-faced figures in fine suits and gowns amongst rows of church pews, and glimpses of pink hair standing beside him, he awoken with a newfound interest in the golden ring on his finger that he’d simply accepted the moment he’d awoken in that strange server.

and of course, he had questions. even though it felt as though he had all the pieces, it still felt like he was fighting for an answer. it was as if his mind wouldn’t let him see past the fog. and he could remember asking Grian about what was wrong, only to not be given any straight answers, as if he was too stupid to notice Grian was having the dreams too. he wasn’t that oblivious. he could see the way Grian was always watching Scar, as if trying to put together his own puzzle.

and then, it happened all at once.

Lizzie was a Red Name like him, and suddenly it was Lizzie.

she was Lizzie — his beautiful wife, the person he loved most in all the universe. suddenly, she was a Red, and she was finally within arm’s reach. and seeing her smile, even if slightly crazed from the newfound bloodlust coursing through her veins, he was reminded again that was she was so, so beautiful. and her giggle sounded like music to his ears, and so, so familiar until it all became clear and she was Lizzie, and he got to remember truly how lucky he was.

and as quick as he remembered, she was gone.

he had only so much time to mourn, to be angry, to fill any type of rage for whatever Gods had cursed them to that forsaken server before he was gone, and then he was awake in a whole other server with all those realizations gone.

he’s back at square one without even realizing it, but this time he’s not so alone. it didn’t shake the feeling of wrongness and the aching loss from his bones, but at least he could say he had a friend to keep him company— a soulmate, even!

and while he’s happily platonic, he can’t help noticing the golden band on his finger that he can’t bring himself to remove. and he thinks of his other hand with a ring made from a strip of a hanging vine, twisted around itself and knotted into a tiny circle. it matched the strip of mangrove bark around Etho’s, both of them makeshift and made more as joke than anything else.

Etho luckily doesn’t ask about the actual ring that he wears, and Joel doesn’t ask about the obsidian one that Etho wears on a chain around his neck, and looks too similar to the one Bdubs tries hide on a necklace beneath his shirt.

and he feels happy, but it still feels like there’s always something (someone) missing, but he supposes he’ll never know.

and if his dreams are full of pink hair and fantastic builds again, he won’t remember bc the Gods demand entertainment, so maybe this 3rd time’s the charm to forget what he’s left behind.

…and i mean, that’s one view of mine bc i very much love imagining an AU that connects all three Life SMPs via the players forgetting their pasts to start the game with a “clean mind”, only for Joel to keep trying to remember Lizzie even after the resets.

the other theory i have for Lizzie not being there tho was bc the trade Joel made in the 100 Hours SMP. when he traded Lizzie for a Nether Star, and imagining that perhaps since he essentially traded her soul and life away, she wasn’t able to be brought back. (and when you combine those two ideas with Joel remembering, only to remember trading her soul away,,, i’m just saying it’d be hella rough and i’m highkey considering it.)

Listen it’s really late when I’m typing this, but I just thought of like. Considering all the stuff about how the DSMP is a cryptid of a server, and its outer world portals are always on lockdown, and how it’s really hard to make inter-server calls to the DSMP, I’m imaging a scenario where someone who’s directly friends with a DSMP member is like “no okay, I’m gonna go check on them” and then just. Doesn’t come back. Like they got into the server and now they can’t really get out.

Especially if we wanna take the route of like, how some people see Hypixel as like, a big contest arena of sorts, right? And so big names in some Hypixel communities might be known? Say, in the bedwars community.

I’m just kinda thinking as I type here but like. Imagining say, BoomerNA. He’s good friends with Purpled and HannahxxRose- he is, he swears by it! They’re his friends! It’s been hard to contact them recently though… they told Boomer that they were gonna go join some other server for a bit, but they haven’t come back yet… he’s gonna go check on them, he decides. He’ll be back soon, don’t worry.

And then he just. Doesn’t come back. And of course people notice! It’s not like a big name in the tourney like that can just vanish without some form of gossip, but nobody’s sure what to do, really. It seems he’s just… gone.

I know this is kinda irrelevant to the whole ambassador part of the AU, but I was just thinking about it. And now all my thoughts are in your ask box. I don’t really know.

I immediately thought of Philza reading that first paragraph, but unlike Boomer there’s hardly anyone to miss him. He’s known for hardcore; disappearing for long spells from the public eye is a given. So nobody even notices when his world loses its player. Anyone who would is already on the Dream SMP, and it’s them who drew him there in the first place.

The Dream SMP kind of eats away at the bedwars community, doesn’t it? Like first Hannah, and Purpled, and Technoblade, and then Boomer. Just gone! Into thin air! Very strange, people say, but sometimes fame makes people disappear. Maybe they ran off together, who knows! Maybe they look for them, maybe they don’t; it doesn’t really matter because they’ve left only crumbs behind and there’s no way to reach them even if those crumbs were a loaf. Sometimes, especially Purpled and Hannah, wonder if anyone did look for them. If they’re missed by better friends than the ones they have on the SMP. If they were better friends.

I imagine, in c! terms, that Boomer, Hannah, and Purpled weren’t all that good of friends but acquaintances for sure. It’s as much Boomer’s curiosity that leads him to the DSMP as his fondness for them. It’s also been months since he’s seen either of them, and they’re different now. Frayed is a word that comes to mind. Twisted up. It’s easy to forget what laughing with them was like now in their presence again.

Raises the interesting question of what happens when players who’ve gone missing re-emerge during MCC. Potential for magic interference here. Would they be able to leave from the MCC server or are they bound somehow by the DSMP? If bound, is it in a normal operational way that’s been twisted, or is it a cage entirely of Dream’s design?

I get the whole corruption and control stuff now and I guess there's other stuff with it but I don't have the energy to cover this stuff the way you did with your "Gov. Bad. Anar. Good." lectures. Did you ever get better at those? I sure hope so cus those were borin as shit to sit through

But I do still love you, even if we ended stuff on a bad note before you left the smp. I sometimes hope you got my letters, but even then, it doesn't feel like you did. I think you would've been proud of my writing improvement, too. It stopped looking like "chicken scratch" (even though it was fine and completely legible to me) after a few letters, and I'm still good at writing now aside from a few imperfections that I like

To Wilbur? I don't really know what to say. You're not Philza Minecraft. Therefore, you're automatically one of the worst people alive- or unalived-alive? But really, you needed help, and I really hope you had gotten it because I think I miss you. I miss just hanging out with you and having fun in our crappy van. I miss the late night campfires where you'd play a random song on the guitar for everybody far and near.

I hated the person you became for a bit, and then I hated Phil for a bit because I thought it was his fault. Then I realized it was Philza, and I can't hate Phil. So, I blamed everyone else around me for the longest time because I didn't understand why nobody had helped you.

ok warning im adding in after writing all this i just ramble about bedrockverse and tmmyrp for like a bunch of paragraphs.

its kind of interesting to me to think abt tmmyrp sometimes. like he started as ctommy as this blog that would follow alongside the canon streams. when dream broke out of prison i had tmmyrp act as the aftermath of that stream and freak out on tumblr.

but at the same time hes so different than ctommy. for one i think hes honestly a bit too mature to be canon ctommy in how he handles conflict (i.e.: the argument with technoblade in december last year). hes so different and my silly idea of including every different tommy design by making him shapeshift has now had deep and important connections to the plot. tommy flew michael back to see ranboo when he was revived. tommy grew tulips when he and tubbo ran off to petalsbrough- AND OH PETALSBROUGH MY PETALSBROUGH.

tommy and tubbo genuinely getting scared enough of dream- who unlike in current canon was a real, up close, and consistent deeply terrifying threat- to LEAVE the main smp. the fact that its still connected by a long tundra path of like 1000 blocks to SNOWCHESTER. its so interesting and i love the lore of that location so much i forget it isnt real. tubbo built an apiary there that never got used. tommy built up a house that was nearly identical to his old one because he missed it so much. when dream found their location through ranboo, he started burrowing fucked up tunnels underneath it to navigate the island easier and always be right behind him. when tubbo left for techno and phil's, tommy hid in tubbos house because he was scared. and that nether portal island right next to it where that confrontation happened between him and dream was TERRIFYING but it felt so so canon it was amazing.

the difference there in how tommy acted in an exile 2 situation was that at that maturity level- both the canon amounts of growth and the added bits of tmmyrp- he knew what dream was trying to do, and just went completely blank and dissociated the fuck out and didnt even respond to anything he said.

and during all of that the shapeshifting bits became environmental storytelling. when he died the first time and spent a month in limbo with ghostbur, the flowers went from tulips to blue cornflowers and he gave one to ghostbur before he was revived. the longer he spent with dream, the more draconic features started appearing on him, and he went slightly numb in the rain because bits of enderman also appeared after an argument with ranboo right before dream showed up.

and the way that before petalsbrough and before dream started tracking him down closely, tommy had another argument with technoblade in the basement of technos house. this was after their massive argument too it had been a while. and tommy told techno about exile first before anyone else before even tubbo and i think thats something so important and interesting to think about. and so techno knew what was happening when tubbo realized dream had tommy, and he was the one to approach dream first to confront him. and goddd god the rest is history with that bit it was so amazing it was one of my favorite bits of lore weve done with those blogs if you have the time go back to early february or late january and just reread those threads we did they were amazing.

but also once he was saved, he started talking to songbird again and holy shit the crimeboys era (which we are still in) has been so great. its so similar to canon in how tommy can read him like a book, knows how he works. but tmmyrp consistently goes about it by just acting like HE wants to do something, and wilbur should join him because hes not just going to leave tommy alone to DIE now is he? and so he- while i dont think canon ctommy in any way needs to be the one to "save" cwilbur, this is different theres a lot of buildup and it isnt even "saving" so. yeah. but he swims in the river with wilbur and makes food with wilbur and hangs out with wilbur but not enough.

thats the thing. it wasnt enough. because before casinoroyale joined the group, songbird kind of didnt have anyone. tommy was still quite frankly scared of wilbur, and was off in petalsbrough dealing with dream- wilbur was the only person NOT THERE when dream died. well casino too but casino wasnt a part of the rp group yet lol. so there's this strange distance between songbird and tmmyrp thats been so tense and everyone can feel it up until like. pretty recently. maybe july?? maybe june?? only now has tmmyrp started going and hanging out with songbird in a casual friendly way again. and man i love those threads. the fucking queen dying in the middle of a thread with songbird and having him break down over it was the funniest shit in the world.

wow. wow holy shit im going to stop typing even though i could keep going bc this is so fucking long. do not get me started on rp!crimeboys i have a LOT to say about them and im not going to make this another 7 paragraphs. jesus christ. anyways. hi everyone.

Thinking about an Afterlife inspired dsmp au. 

For those who aren’t aware of Afterlife’s premise: everyone has ten lives and a random origin. When they die, their origin is randomly rerolled.

So!

Tommy’s origin when he joins is imp-like. It fits his mischievous personality and tendency towards pranks during those early days when wars were just for fun and nobody got hurt. They were all still friends at the end of the day.

Tubbo’s second origin is more notable than his first. After dying in the Final Control Room, he respawns with thicker skin; more difficult to pierce and cut through. He credits his shulker abilities during his spy days as he smuggled information and documents to and from Pogtopia. It was easier then, to lock up his emotions into a neat and tidy box. He misses it sometimes.

Wilbur joins the server with wings. And just like his father, he is considered untouchable. His revolution shakes the smp down to its roots. His ideas set history in motion. After his first death during the revolution, he's suddenly grounded. Still, he presses forward. When he’s killed escaping into exile; his rapidly declining mental health and paranoia warps his origin. Dark thorns sprout around his throat, choking him. The vines overwhelm him, and not even he’s immune to their sting.

Tubbo loses his second life with a flash of colorful light and a bang. In what feels like a cruel twist of fate, he’s dealt the same origin as Schlatt: a goat. He mostly hides it during his presidency in shame, but after establishing Snowchester he fully embraces its stubborn nature. He won’t let anyone push him around ever again.

Tommy doesn’t get to enjoy his third origin much. It’s a painful switch: Wilbur losing his wings only for Tommy to gain his. The pain in his brother’s eyes and the guilt gnaws at him, so Tommy binds them away, so they won’t be seen. He’s finally able to fly; a dream he’s had for years, but he’s never felt more grounded. He cries when Ghostbur manifests, a pair of whole wings on his back as if they’d never been lost at all. 

Dream clips his feathers during exile. Tommy dully thinks it’s a waste of time. No one ever taught him to fly.

Tommy is the one to finally slay the server dragon: Dream. The shattering of his mask, the wet crunch of his skull splitting twice. No one knows what Dream’s second origin would've been; he was still manifesting when Tommy drove the Axe of Peace into his head. It’s poetic. Tommy never knew his either: after the final control room, Tommy had stumbled from his respawn, discs clutched in his hands and skin still knitting together as he called for a duel.

Dream doesn’t know what to expect when he revives Tommy. Perhaps cheating death will unlock something new and terrible. Powerful. Something Dream can manipulate for his own gains.

Tommy opens his eyes and he's just human. Painfully, quietly, human with no cool powers or special abilities. It feels like a sigh of relief. He’s not special. He’s not. He just wants to live. Is that too much to ask for?

ohh i really shouldn't post my thoughts on Tommy, Tubbo and Dream's dsmp finale because looking at other people's posts about it is kind of making me feel bad, but perhaps my favorite thing about the dream smp this whole time (that I don't think was lost at all in the finale) is that the inconsistency that comes with it being a minecraft roleplay allows for a fair amount of variety in interpretation.

so i want to propose one reading on the ending, particularly in terms of the common ground that Tommy and Dream seem to find.

(bear in mind, I was watching both Tommy and Tubbo's streams simultaneously, and I've gotta say Tubbo and Jack screaming over nukes perhaps distracted me a bit from the philosophical debate happening on the other screen. so if i missed something or didn't get it quite right. oops. but ive got to be honest especially in this fandom, i have a lot more fun when i don't worry too much about being accurate to the source material. there are so many conflicting things that happen (due to it being a roleplay that is sometimes scripted, sometimes improvised, and written and performed by over two-dozen gamers on a minecraft server) that i think part of the fun is picking and choosing what to accept as your own personal canon, and what to leave in the hundreds of hours of live streams)

when Tommy and Tubbo escape from the lava pit thingy, Tommy is hopeless. he has lost greatly, and everything he has left to lose is at risk of being taken away from him. so when Tubbo reveals the nuke to him, he sees only one option.

now you could view it as a pure act of heroism. of Tommy sacrificing himself for the good of everyone else. but i think it's worth noting that he seems almost strangely at peace with the idea of dying. while Tubbo is flip-flopping between accepting this as the only way and trying to come up with something, anything else. Tommy is convinced that this is the only way out. he makes his way around the server, saying his last goodbyes. he tells Tubbo his wishes for what to do after his death. he wants Tubbo to be happy. he thinks, genuinely, that Tubbo will be happier once he's gone.

which sounds a lot, to me, like the Tommy that built that tower. like the Tommy that drank invis. and wanted to disappear.

so. and here's the controversial part. what is the thing Tommy and Dream found common ground on in the prison? what is the thing that made Tommy regret the plan he and Tubbo had set?

life. both he and Dream wanted to live.

and here I want to note the part where Dream kills Tommy, and Tommy begs to be brought back. and it's only *after* that that Tommy has a change of heart. that he starts to think that maybe there could have been another way.

and i want to make it clear that that consensus would have been REALLY FUCKING HARD to come to. Dream would have to undergo some Incredibly Deep Psychological Changes in order for the two of them to be able to exist in the same world. and it would take an enormous level of trust and sacrifice for Tommy to be able to walk around knowing that the man who put him through so much pain was still out there.

but. the important part is that in that moment, Tommy (who loves Wilbur even after all of the ways he hurt him, who jokes around with Jack who tried to kill him, who wants Sam to come to their new nation despite getting him trapped and killed through his own rigidity) Tommy (who's greatest strength is coming up with a plan and bringing people together with his words) Tommy (who can be thoughtless and entitled, but at the end of the day will give up anything for the people he loves) Tommy. thinks there might be another way.

a way that means he doesn't have to die.

and so. I wonder. if that moment of regret. if that apology. has less to do with seeing eye-to-eye with Dream. has less to do with forgiveness or understanding. and has more to do with choosing to live. choosing to keep fighting. choosing to try to find another way.

but there isn't enough time. it's too late.

unless it's not.

unless they get another chance to try again. start over.

simpler this time.
