sooooo... *twirls her hair* how many asks should i send until kuwagami art. jk as well. the real question will be: does it happen often that someone else’s art inspires you? in fandom spaces specifically
well you see it’s like a loyalty card program, every 10 asks or so you get a complimentary kuwagami
just kidding you can just breathe in my direction and I’ll be tempted to draw them. kuwagami blast! (you've caught me on a... just okay art day lol)
(people still like kabedons, right?)
anyway for my actual answer:
in terms of direct inspiration, it doesn't really happen much? the last two times i did art directly based on someone else's work is probably this one from this fic, and also that time i drew art of someone else's judgment au. oh! and there's that moriohpsycho art based on this comic! (filthyguts' work is so very. hgngngghh. very good.)
nothing else really comes to mind, and when i think of the other things i've been into recently there hasn't been as much opportunity for that to happen...
flex and herds = strong fixation but lmao. almost nobody else made stuff about them. nobody is surprised
umineko = surprisingly i don't read much umineko fanfiction? and in terms of illustration, i certainly picked up imagery and indirect inspiration but nothing concrete enough for me to give an example... now that i think about it, i did once draw andromalius from redaction/sunny, but that was years ago, and also mostly because i was acquainted with the writer. ...i don't have that artwork on hand right now
death note = didn't really get involved with the fandom + i enjoyed my own ideas well enough! ...i can't recall if i drew long-hair-L art before or after seeing other artists do it.
and as for everything else the same kind of reasoning applies. didn't really get involved with the fandom or wasn't really compelled to make art in response to stuff i saw, or i just don't remember anymore.
buuuuuuut if we're opening this up to just... pulling ideas from other people? then yeah, all the time, though that kind of goes without saying when you have a creative hobby. ...it's probably going to be hard to come up with examples of this since it's more ambiguous.
there's uhhhhhh... kuwana listens to nickelback which was a @/four-white-trees invention, wasn't it? (EDIT: and @/overdevelopedglasses!) (not tagging in this post so he doesn't feel obligated to read my big ass ask responses 💀) as of writing this, it's not posted but i did end up making kuwagami art based on a nickelback song so. yknow. there's that LMAO
for sawashiro and arakawa, i do sometimes go reference @/todayisafridaynight 's art to help me with my own. ("how did he draw this part of the suit? oh, like that huh? hmm" <- this kind of thing)
and um. i'm not trying to pander to you (at least not this time), but genuinely it's one of the few examples that come to mind at this moment. but when i was writing my first kuwagami fic, i could feel the influence of the ever-changing on my brain... was turning over some of your ideas there...
you remember this? (you even pointed it out in your comment on my fic, and i should've said something then, but whatever i'm saying it now)
that was absolutely because of this
(obligatory poke at anybody else reading this post that you can read passthroughtime's fic here.)
so, um. yeah. not really sure what else to add to that. pretty self evident i think. (i'm always talking about the ever-changing but i don't think i can overstate the impression it left on me at the time)
anyhow there aren't really any other examples off the top of my head! these are all recent examples so they're not so difficult to recall, but there are probably others i've forgotten...

Idk what to put down here. :3
(Brief context: Deerclops got him. lmao. anyways takes place in my au where Jack Carter and his wife end up in hell the constant. And also everyone is a creature bc humans hard to draw and I never learnt to draw or write them growing up. Also he'll be fineeee he has about 25 health left)
(...Extended context and headcannons below the cut <3)
HAI HAI I AM SO NORMAL <3 <3
anyways in game (I MIGHT BE A LITTLE WRONG ABOUT THIS...) Abigail (I THINK) will attack things even when calm if they are aggressive and Wendy is still close to the threat (or at least it feels that way when I play Wendy lol) and Abby won't stop or try to avoid attacks like a couple other mobs do (pigmen, merms, bunnymen, maybe some more.)
so the context is that the deerclops came to attack during the winter and of course, Abigail, full of violence, is attacking and ignoring the fact that it is about to attack her. She knows this, but still ignores it because she doesn't mind getting hit and possibly "dying" again since she knows she can be brought back easily (She doesn't really like dying because it upsets Wendy, but at least she'll have helped distract and take down the deerclops, which will benefit the survivors and thus Wendy) (Also she lacks a sense of self preservation)
Jack does not want either of his daughters to be harmed, even though Abigail is dead. So, after trying to tell Abigail a few times to back away from the deerclops and her not noticing (Too focused on violense) he decides to run forward and pull her/pick her up and move her out of the way of the Deerclops' attack (Ghosts are corporal at will and to biological things and their attacks) ...which results in him getting stabbed instead.
He doesn't really mind this outcome. Abigail is safe now, which is much more important to him than his own health and life (He also lacks a sense of self preservation) (I really like to headcannon Jack as having traits Abby is shown/implied to have, bc of how Wendy and Maxwell have quite a few things in common in the cannon)
Abigail, however, does not like the outcome of her father being stabbed. Wendy and her mother Kathrine also do not like this outcome. Maxwell is especially unhappy about the fact that his brother has been stabbed.

sometimes i wonder who could win in a fair fight, before. before the prison and before dream started burning the candle at both ends "experimenting" w vik and lazer, before sapnap secretly hasnt trained in weeks bc he cant bear to get himself to train when he knows full well that the next time he'll be in a fight he'll have his brother at the end of his sword.
when they were friends still, when they knew each other better than themselves. when they never really fought with heart in it, with real intent to hurt, pulling their swords back before someone could really get hurt. if back then, they'd fought fairly, a match purely skill, would dream have won, two years older and so much smarter, the one who taught sapnap to fight in the first place and still trains more, strokes sharp and vicious on the training dummy in a way sapnap cant really capture when he tries it secretly, alone when he knows dream wont see it. or would sapnap be better if they fought, purely, to the death to victory, with no inhibitions on the man boy at the end of his sword, without the careful way he'd pull back his blade to keep from hurting his best friend that came almost like instinct to him, no matter how hard he tries to pull it back to win for once when they had friendly spars. he's always been quicker than dream, stronger, even if he wasnt quite as adept, as perfectly honed, practiced in technique that sapnap really never had the patience for.
or would they be perfectly matched. would sapnaps strength, his natural quickness, exactly match dreams training, his strategy, every technique hes spent years perfecting to stay on top as sapnap grew, got stronger and better just behind him. would they stalemate, blades clashing late into the night. until one collapsed, unable to keep going, the victor heaving, exhausted, and alone.

so CBT never worked for us in therapy. basically every instance of it was therapists trying to get us to stop being anxious about very real problems that were very likely to happen. like, situations that were not only likely, but would be very dangerous if they did happen. sometimes even things that had already happened and were likely to happen again.
meanwhile we have an app on our phone that guides you through various CBT exercises and it turns out when we use that for the kind of shit where we already know our brain is being irrational and we just want to get our thoughts together and work through the issue by writing it out, it works really fucking well and oh look suddenly we've been doing CBT for an hour and processed the root cause of several key emotional issues we've been having for years.
funny how that works. it's almost like we can actually figure out for ourselves when something is irrational and when it's an actual real problem that could put us in danger and shouldn't be dismissed. who'd have fucking thought it

not to keep being like "clearly some of y'all weren't around for the s4 finale of the magicians on syfy" but...
times like these? it's just so palpably obvious which of us HAVE had firsthand experience with what it's actually like witnessing a coordinated campaign consisting of intentional, active, premeditated, and malicious queerbaiting, complete betrayal of fan and audience expectations, and a dangerous, flagrant, thoroughly irresponsible handling of trauma/healing/mental illness storylines unfold before our eyes in real time like a slow motion car crash at the hands of a homophobic, ableist showrunner hellbent on overpowering the writers room in order to further their own agenda and ruin a good thing out of spite and spite alone.
and which of us, uh. haven't! 🤭
