We evacuated. Me and Brandon are in a reinforced spot for Ian on the second floor of a cat 5 proofed building (hopefully above the storm surge level). The storm is headed STRAIGHT towards us. We have 3+ days worth of food and water.
The mandatory GET OUT RIGHT NOW order went out this afternoon.
Fuck.

Hiii rem! I have a few success stories from me surviving hurricane Ian!
-I manifested that my home would be protected during the hurricane
-My electricity stayed on the whole night during the hurricane (i personally wanted to stay until it the day time and it went out during the day lol)
-The next day, within two hours I manifested the electricity getting fixed even though my town had 2,000+ outages, the same with my internet outage
-My home property was like a swamp but I manifested the water going down within a day so now I don’t have to ruin my heals again walking across the water 😭
omg im so glad you're safe!! hope you and your friends, family, and neighbors are recovering okay!! <3

I recently came across a statue titled “The Spirit of Fort Myers” located in Edison park in Cape Coral. The statue was built by Helmut Von Zengen and completed on April 8, 1926. The statue is nicknamed “Rachel at the Well” because it depicts a woman pouring water from an urn into a basin. She’s the Grecian maiden who welcomes residents and visitors to Edison Park on McGregor Boulevard, a stone’s throw from the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.  Rachel has weathered a host of destructive hurricanes and tropical storms. That very summer, the Great Miami Hurricane ravaged Fort Myers, destroying the bridge being built out at Matlacha and leaving so much devastation that it put an end to the Land Boom that Florida had been enjoying at the time. In the decades that ensued, Rachel emerged unscathed from, among others, the deadly Okeechobee hurricane of 1928, Hurricane King in 1947, and more recently, Hurricanes Donna, Charley, Wilma and Irma. However, during Hurricane Ian, she was damaged, but is still repairable. Ian was the first storm in almost 100 years to finally damage her. She was originally built to symbolize the spirit of Fort Myers and its community. Since 1926, the statue survived and gave the people hope that they and their community would survive too. Hurricane Ian was the most destructive hurricane that has hit Fort Myers in a very long time. Although the statue was damaged for the first time, it still survived, symbolizing that even though Fort Myers and the community was severely damaged, it still survived. Because of the hope the statue has given its city’s residents, it is undergoing repairs that will be done this year.

Survived Hurricane Ian!
Caveat: I’m in the area on the northern end of Orlando, about halfway between Orlando downtown and Sanford. The worst part of the storm was south of us the whole time.
My body bloody well hurt the entire time because of chronic joint stuff. The surgery site didn’t feel too good either. I’m really glad there were some oxycodone pills left over from the second surgery. I ended up taking one Wednesday night to be able to sleep (because pain, not because scary storm).
There was a LOT of rain. We hunkered down at the man thing’s parents’ house since it’s basically a solid stone bunker. Their house is a lake shore place and in the two days we were there the lake rose close to 15 feet. They have a 3 foot high retaining wall between the lake beach and their yard, which is now underwater. Barely.
A large number of roads had flooded. When the man thing and I came back to the apartment last night there were officers out directing traffic around the flooded main streets.
There was a lot of wind. It took a few large trees down, but not many. Lots of branches down.
The worst part was losing power. It went out at both the apartment and at the inlaws’ place. The man thing had to come to the apartment to get work clothes (because his workplace was going to be open today, no matter what! And you’d better be on site at 9 am if you want to keep your job!) and found that our power had been restored. As of about 9 this morning the inlaws’ power is still out.
Now it’s back to the regularly scheduled job hunt... since you’ve all been updated.

I almost managed to fulfill my birthday month challenge, but then both my mother and I came down with Influenza and Hurricane Ian hit, so I was preparing our little RV for the storm while deathly sick, my mother ended up going to the hospital after Ian ended, she comes home tonight thank God. We didn’t have power in our trailer park for nearly a week, it has not been a fun adventure.😞 but I survived! I will do those last few pictures just because I hate leaving anything so close to finished and not.
I still love the name Ian though, it’ll take more than a bad storm to ruin the name shared by Sir Ian Holms and Sir Ian McKellen!
Still makes me laugh to think of it, I thought I just had a very bad case of the Flu and it was the goddamn Influenza!

Anon I wish I could give you a hug 🥺 I'm so glad you're safe and made it through everything. I intimately know how dangerous it was down there. And the fact that anything I or any other clexa writer has done might've given even a second of escapism to you and anyone else just working to survive is so damn cool. Please take care of yourself lovely💕💕💕

Just wanted to let everyone know that we survived Hurricane Ian. Unfortunately our entire neighborhood is now underwater. Half my family has been separated and we can't get to them right now, but they have been rescued, they're all safe and accounted for, and that's what matters.
Needless to say, I don't know when I'll be around properly again. Power and internet go out every few minutes.

Hurricane Ian
-
First big storm event without you, love. I'm going through the motions of preparedness. I'm going through the motions…
-
The God-forsaken, bullshit motions that substitute for a life.
-
I finally bought you an urn, purple and silver, it's lovely.
-
It arrived before our birthdays next week. What an odd gift. It sits waiting in its velvet bag, waiting to be filled…
-
I have not yet mustered the fortitude to put your ashes to rest. Perhaps if I survive this storm, I will find the strength to do so.
-
A year has gone, and more, yet my love for you does not fade. I miss you everywhere.
-
I miss you.
I miss you.
I miss you.
-
Your arms, your hands, your eyes, your voice—
-
Shelter from the storm.
-
Azuki Lynn

Hurricane Ian update
for the second time in five years, I feel like I live in a warzone. It’s so traumatic to leave your home and see destruction everywhere.  Places you have memories of, places you love, just annihilated.  I’m at this stage where it’s the little things that are hitting me.  Like how the dog beach where I’ve taken every dog I’ve owned and spread their ashes into the sea when they passed, I don’t think it’s even possible to reach that beach ever again.
My friend AJ is 88. My mom sits with her a few days a week (and I do too sometimes) while her niece is at work because she’s forgetful and needs to be reminded to take her meds, have meals, etc.  And to have the company, she’s a surviving twin and she has been very lonely since she lost her sister.  I never had a desire for a twin before, but the way AJ talks about “the love of her life” makes me realize there is something so special there.  I love her stories.
She told me about how when her father died when she 4, she moved from Ontario to Fort Myers Beach. If you don’t know Florida you don’t understand just how middle-of-nowhere south Florida was back then, circa 1940.  When my parents moved here in 1981, it felt middle-of-nowhere.  I can’t imagine 1940 South Florida. Her mother opened the first school on Fort Myers Beach: she was the teacher, the principal, and the bus driver all in one.  They built a stilt house, and AJ has lived there entire life from the age of 4.
Until a few days ago. Fort Myers Beach, the entire community, is GONE.
youtube
My friend Slim is a beautiful person. He’s a brilliant musician. Here’s my favorite original song of his, sung with Sheena Brook who was on The Voice and is Fort Myers famous singing lesbian.  They both lost everything, including Slim’s recording studio and his many, many musical instruments.  Here’s a link to his blues cover of Taylor Swift’s “Mean”.  This is a man who would give you the shirt off his own back if you were cold.
I love these people I just mentioned and I don’t know what I can do for them, but I just really hope it gets better soon.
