The process I would say is as follows

Buy domain with keyword in the title / URL- Google domains

Get hosting on a super fast host / Green geeks / English support for your website 24/7 / Simply amazing service.

Get wordpress - the rest are tedious - second option is a landing page I recommend another builder for small one page sites called swipe pages

Get a GMB - Google my Business profile - its Free and from Google and can be operated from your smartphone

Get Citations on fiverr - biggest draw card in local search - NAP being consistent.

Learn Basic SEO and web page optimization via the Moz Pie chart - This is your bible

Get a tracking software as you start your journey - Brightlocal $49 per month and you can help out 5 other businesses once you've taught yourself ...

Use the Semrush - Moz - Ahreffs free trial periods to learn SEO to a higher level

Build up your portfolio - get reviews for your GMB listing ,Facebook reviews ,Trustpilot reviews, be religious about this

Using Google analytics , free from Google analyse your traffic and see what content - search terms are relevant to your industry and site and add these with Fiverr to your site - get content written on Fiverr

Level Up - Get the paid version of Semrush - search your competitors back link profile

Brightlocal ( has a great citation checking service ) or you can properly check your competitors sites and emulate their strategy , get the same back links as them and get the same citations

Get reviews and add widgets to your website from Trustpilot - Facebook - and GMB widget - Wordpress has all these plugins to add widgets for free .Its proves multi platform credibility

Let me say from the start I knew nothing about ranking a website!

Well, I do now, but I did not when I started. I'm an electrician by trade.

The way I got into SEO has been a 3 year long journey .

I run my own electrical install and testing company -www.zaelectrical.com

The company struggled to rank on first page and the Google map pack / snack pack

This was a problem I wanted to solve. How do I, a one man band, compete with established companies who have 20 + staff members and a budget of £2000 per month and then some?

Well, short answer is "Yes, you can!", but it took lots of research and trial and errors.

At first, I gave up.

I was interested in taking a stab at internet retail and I attempted selling products on Amazon in the USA.

9000 meters of climbing rope - 10m/ 20m /30m denominations / Unbranded

I was out of my depth and had to study PPC via YouTube videos and it felt that I was fighting a losing battle. I barely broke even after Amazon's storage fees and monthly charges and charges for delivering my products from their warehouses. They also lost some of my stock ...

I then tried Shopify and the drop shipping model combined with Facebook ads

This gave me back a glimmer of hope that online sales were the way forward again , seeing the metrics of the impressions of advertising on a platform that works - Facebook

I eventually broke even, well sort of and vowed not to give up , but to take these lessons and try and apply the correct PPC to my business in the UK

OK, so here the journey technically starts:

Lots of videos on YouTube later

SEO experts - £200 a month for 4 months

Wiring up a friends house , which caused numerous rifts - in exchange for a website

Re-doing the website again myself with help from a person on Fiverr

And then having to do it again with help from a friend I met through a work contact (He informed me that he was doing the bare bones site after I had given him an outline explaining that I had been let down time and time again)

He pulled the site together. Amen

I had super ambition and hoped it would rank immediately

Talk about living in a dream

I started to study with the same ambition I had applied to Amazon , every night after my day work I would study

Then things started to make sense to me.

You can't beat what already has been done - big companies can out budget you and out staff you every day of the week

So DO NOT reinvent the wheel I thought

What are they doing and how is that working ?

This is where having the right tools is my only chance, I decided.

Get a domain from Google Domains with the main keyword in the title

Get a domain Host from Green Geeks - the fastest Host and 24/7 Helpline

The first thing I learnt is Google My Business - GMB

In the UK you have a big authority for trades called Checkatrade with unlimited budget and 2 million back links - Yes, 2 million

Emulate - and over ride them

Backlinks ...Well, well, well....

This is not a quick process , the citations you order will help get backlinks too, but the quickest way is to ask other sites in your trade / profession to reference your site. This was my route on a budget, however there are so many ways. Google does not love you if you buy them and this is against their terms and conditions, so buy them on

fiverr

at your own risk. Just saying.

I had to teach myself a bit about Wordpress, which seems from all accounts the easiest to self teach, with tutorials on the web, also the SEO and range of plugins, both paid and free, outweigh any other website builder by a mile - this was a big thing for me anyway.

I would work on my reviews from each customer and once I started to see I was approaching 70+ reviews I started to see my rank increase in the local rankings for "near me" search terms

Step 2 Study some more - a different set of tools

You tube - greatest invention of the 21st century

I would need to learn about my GMB listing and how to maximise it

Step 1 I had started - Logo - reviews - regular photos - weekly posts - Geo located and alt tag stuffed photos

step 2 study - Greg Gifford - what a genius

Step 3 - better analytical tools - Semrush -

This tool has a free trial period so if you want to try it you can cancel within the cool off period without being charged

Armed with a new arsenal I felt much more confident .

I can still see my DA is only 16 but my other signals - local authority and citations and reviews , outweigh my competitors ,after altering my rich snippets , SEO title , Slug , meta description ,featured image of the rich snippets alt text ,title , captions, descriptions ,

My rank shot up

So what I've learnt is that you can rank any website by starting locally then moving to a wider audience you can rank any website with the right tools.

This is the process and steps I took

I'm currently bouncing between 1-2 position on Google maps and 2nd and 2-3rd position on organic rankings on Google .

kendal is a middle child and it defintiely shows, their dumbass chaotic nature was definitely born out of being neglected and forgotten about. living in a shadow wasnt the greatest for them and then not even getting the attention of being a baby for long by his moms did their best to be equal with them all but kendal felt ****it****. they play it off as just being goofy and playful most of the time but he can get up to some real trouble when he feels like it. mostly out of just making bad decisions

too much energy - talks too much and is bad for interrupting he generally doesnt really have anything of use to add to a conversation other than weird stories, strange questions, and weird conspiracy theories but hes fun and loud and loves to be the centre of attention. this can be annoying honesly hes friendly and loyal he’d never turn someone down till the day he dies its just... bro is a lot to deal with sometimes hes so much of a loud ass clown and go against clearly something you told him not to do like jump up on a table leave a complete mess in the kitchen squeeze toothpaste in the middle of the tube. you know shit like that.

definitely is scared easily like you could easily scare him in the kitchen hes scared of the most stupid things like dark mirrors, his hair blowing off his body and landing on a dead body and him becoming a suspect for a murder.

g e n r e: angsty. p a i r i n g: idol!jimin x reader. w o r d s: 1482. p r o m p t: “goodbye kiss” taken from this list. w a r n i n g s: none. a / n: I wrote this last night and rushly edited this morning, so sorry for whatever mistake you’ll find. I wanted to post something as I’m currently writing a bigger fic, which is turning into a personal challenge for me👀. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this little drabble! xx

Airports give you goosebumps.

Usually, it’s the good kind of goosebumps. Your blood runs faster with adrenaline whenever you enter airports, baggage in hand and smile on your face. The sound of trolleys’ wheels on the ground, the chatting of people speaking languages you never heard of – it excites you to the point you can’t stop jumping around here and there, rushing to go on the line for your plane and the protocol controls they made.

To most of the people out there, taking a plane is a stressful experience and sometimes, even awful. You can’t say you hadn’t your fair share of those uncomfortable situations, where you risked arriving late and missing your flight, or simply having to wake up to ungodly hours to take a damn plane. But it was never something you perceived negatively.

Today, however, it is marked as an exception.

There isn’t any goosebumps on your skin, nor the marvelous expression you make whenever you realize the airport is somewhere people just pass by and you watch them in awe, picturing where they go and why. Today, the airport is just a place where people’s bustling and running from and for everywhere, too scared of not arriving in time for their flight, annoys you in a way you could never imagine. You watch passengers fighting on the phone because they baggage were lost and families who part for god knows how long. The sight of a mother adjusting her son’s jacket with shaky hands and lips pressured together to contain her tears and sobs, has your breath itched. The frightening sensation of tears coming to wet your eyes hunts you and you do everything in your willpower to suppress it, desperately fluttering your eyelashes.

It’s only the tugging on your hand that distracts you and you feel the warm fingers intertwined with yours squeezing your tiny hand in a comforted grip.

You lift your gaze to watch your boyfriend, his blond hair completely covered by a black cap. The sole thing you can see right now are his dark eyes, which reflect your same sentiment of falling apart – but you picture a smile under the black fabric of his mask, the way it crinkles around his mouth. This is one of the reason why you love and hate Jimin; being able to be strong whenever it is needed and acting as everything is okay, even when it’s clearly not it’s both a bless and curse for you. It shows you how much strong he is, but at the same time he makes himself unreachable for you, prohibiting you to comfort him as well.

You smile back, following him to the gates where passengers are lining up, waiting to pass the usual controlling operations. “Did you take everything? I know you tend to forget your toothbrush, dummy,” you start, stopping beside a closed shop, in a more secluded spot. The thundering of your heart is now strong enough that you can hear it, as your voice quivers a little. You’re not even able to look at him in the eyes.

“I did, yeah. But I’ll take another one to add it to my collection when I come back,” he tries to lighten the mood, chuckling mildly. You hum a laugh, uncapable to really enjoying how he jokes about your personal collection of toothbrush, always bought in some stores across the world or taken away from hotels he stays in during concert or promotion period. You move closer to him, until your cheek touches his shoulder. This is not the first time he goes away, yet this one in particular has put you under an emotional rollercoaster.

Maybe because you will not see each other for probably more than six months.

“Call me or text me when you arrive. And don’t forget to eat. I recommended Tae to watch over you.” You blurt the words with a dreading scowl, interrupting the silence established between the two of you, looking at him in the eyes to show how serious you are. The way your brows are furrowed and your lips form that adorable pout make Jimin watching you with adoration and longing, simply nodding to your words. He isn’t able to form a cocky reply as he’d have usually done, not this time.

“You better study and work hard, okay? I want you to finally have that degree. You deserve that.” He affirms determinedly, suddenly cupping your cheeks. You watch him with wide eyes, biting your bottom lip to contain your tears. You feel an enormous lump on your throat and you try to gulp multiples times, uselessly.

You take a deep, shaky breath, gripping his coat with your small hands. You want this moment to never end, prolonging it as much as possible. “I’ll miss you so much, Jimin,” you stutter, as you realize he soon needs to go. He might be arriving late to the gate and you can’t let that happen, not when he purposely asked his manager to let him go a day after the rest of boys have gone to their first big city of their worldwide tour, just to stay with you. You choke a sob that threatens to leave your lips.

“I’ll miss you, too,___.”

He places his mask below his chin, so you can now see his face. His eyes are watery as yours, you notice. It’s almost comically the way you two try to smile to each other but failing miserably. You try to joke on that, when Jimin’s eyes closes briefly and his face draws near yours, until his lips are gently brushing yours. Your breath falters at the delicate touch, as this is your very first kiss and not the last in the next long months.

It’s just a matter of seconds though, before you decide to press firmly yet gently your lips on his, sealing them in a proper kiss.

Your heart suddenly burst in a thundering storm, pulsing violently as the thought that you will not be able to touch him like this for longer than you ever imagined hits you. It has your arms sliding across his shoulders and your feet to lift so that you can mold your body to his. You feel his stronger arms clasping your middle as his hands alt in the expanse of your back, as he also desires to never separate from you and to embed you forever.

In that moment, everything is casted away. The noises of the outside are a faint sound in the background, as you focus on the sensation the kiss you’re sharing with Jimin crash you like a wave of the ocean. It’s like you are in your own little bubble, excluding the rest of the world from it. Your chest blooms with love and affection for the boy in your arms, as your part your lips to let him search your tongue to deepen the kiss. Your hands caress the strands on the back of his neck, tugging slightly on them. You don’t want to let go, now nor never. It’s childish and egoistic, but you don’t want leave him.

That’s why, after what felt like interminable minutes passed too fast, you whine when Jimin detaches from you, chuckling before pressing his nose to yours and then in the crook of your neck, inhaling your delicate and flowery scent. The words “don’t go” are on the tip of your tongue, but you don’t voice them. Yet you seem to not let your grip on his coat loosen and that’s why Jimin has to calmly place his hands above yours.

“I need to go, love,” Jimin whispers, as these words wounded him the moment he let them out. He lovingly brushes his thumbs on the back of your hands in a soothing way before you finally let go, sighing dejectedly.

“See you in six months, then,” you snivel, wiping a tear from your cheek. He simply nods, before he goes in for another kiss. This time, Jimin just press his lips over yours in a sweet, innocent way, like he’s going out for practice or to the groceries store near your apartment. Not far away from you.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, hon.”

You wave your hand, eyes puffy and red as you carefully watch him lining up with other people, sniffing. It’s only when Jimin is nearly at the corner of the line that he turns to you one last time. He settles his mask below his chin again, smiling reassuringly. He sends you a flying kiss this time and you can’t help but chuckle as your cheeks burn red returning the gesture. You bless this century for technology, devices and apps for once. As you watch your boyfriend vanish, following the line, you start walking back to the main entrance.

You can’t wait to go back here to welcome him again.

I DOWNLOADED MY FIRST MOD AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

So, I was getting really tired of how un-vibrant Sims 4 is. I didn’t really notice it/care at first, but once Sage was born I found myself constantly fighting the lighting in the game and setting up temporary lamps everywhere when I took screenshots just because of how un-flattering the Sims 4 lighting is for sims of color. (I mean I’ve had mixed race couples since gen 1 but the focus was always on the founder/heir so if their partner wasn’t as well lit up as they were I didn’t pay much attention to it, but Sage is the first heir to actually have darker skin genetics passed down to him ‘cuz apparently in sims world recessive and dominant genetic traits are reversed... or at least in this family they are rip)

But anyways, I don’t want to spend time editing my screenshots so I just got a lighting mod for the game. OwO;;

I just want to make a post now and tag it with wcif because I really don’t download much and if I ever do get cc in addition to this I’ll just post and wcif tag that too so anyone that’s curious can easily see what I’ve got quickly~

I also want to add that I’m going to go very in-depth about the installing process because I am not tech-savvy at all and it took me a whole evening to figure all of this out, so if anyone else is in the same boat as me I hope this helps! XD

Also before I start explaining things I just want to add that before you start changing things, ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR GAME!! Make a copy of The Sims 4 folder that’s in your documents, AND the one that’s in your Origin Games folder that’s on your C drive (or wherever you installed Sims 4).

First I downloaded NoBlu and NoGlo

The links to the page their downloads are located along with information from the creator are right there in that title~

Those two mods work together, so I suggest getting them both! The NoBlu removes the blue tint that shows up at night time and indoors too I think, and if I understand things correctly the NoGlo removes that blue tint from your sims themselves so they don’t look blue-ish in contrast to the rest of the world that’s now been stripped of that blue tint.

Like, the point of the blue tint that’s in the game is to make it so you can see things better in the dark, but from what I can tell it also makes day time seem darker too at certain times of the day. So getting rid of this will make night time darker if no lights are around, but I think it makes day time brighter and the lights at night time is brighter too and your sims just react more naturally to lighting~

When downloading NoBlu, just pick one of those three files that are there. I picked NoBluLightingReplacement.package

For NoGlo, there’s two files there, and I downloaded both of them. They’re the NoGloRemover and the EyeSpecularRemover

NoGlo and EyeSpecularRemover are applied to each sim in cas just like cc, so I’m not sure if I’ll bother using them. But I haven’t had this NoBlu lighting mod for very long so if I end up noticing my sims glowing in the dark with a blueish light then I’ll probably bother to put that on everyone. Maybe.

These two mods are really easy to download! It’s just like downloading CC, just get the file and put it in Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 4 -> Mods

Then I got ReShade

This mod took me quite a while to figure out... (I’m just sort of challenged when it comes to things like this which is why I don’t use much mods/cc in the first place) 😓

So this is a program that you can install into a lot of different games, it’s not made just for sims 4, but it works really well on sims 4! The website to download this is https://reshade.me/

Additionally, THIS VIDEO is the most helpful tutorial for installing it that I could find (imo). I also want to add to always read the README text files that come with mods when you download them... I’m sure you probably already do that but I’m an impatient derp that couldn’t figure out some things until I read the readme... >.>;;

Also, I had an issue when installing ReShade, and I’m just gonna explain everything I went through in case anyone else is having a hard time too, ‘cuz it took me quite a while to find the info. I needed. I also want to add that I use windows 8.1 (unfortunately that’s the only operating system that’s compatible with my laptop, so no windows 10 or 7 for me, I already tried, rip) so the issue I had could of been caused by 8.1′s wonkyness. But I don’t know for sure.

After it asked me if I want to download a collection of standard effects, and I clicked yes, it said it failed. The program was properly installed into Sims 4, but I had no effects or textures (which is the whole point of getting this...)

But! This can be fixed by downloading the effects manually and putting them into your bin folder yourself. THIS FORUM on ReShade’s website has this answer and a link to the download for the effects and textures. The very first answer under the OP’s question is the one with the download~ I’m very thankful to that helpful person. Also, I’m just linking the forum instead of the responder’s link itself b/c once you click on their link it downloads the file. It’s not a link to a file share or anything, it’s just the direct download. The ReShade website probably has these up for download on their website somewhere too... But I’m trash at navigating websites that I’m not used to so I have no idea where... But I would assume it’s there somewhere...

After you have that file, slap it into your sims 4′s bin folder (tutorial I linked before shows where that is). Now, this alone is not all that you need to do. Now that it’s in the file, you need to go into the game and open the ReShade interface. Then you go over to settings and you need to copy paste the path for the program to find the effects and textures. There’s two separate boxes, one for effects and one for textures.

To do this, go into the shaders folder that’s in your reshade shaders’ folder in your sims 4′s bin folder. Then in the bar at the top of your file’s window that shows all the files you’ve gone into, click on it and copy it. Then tab back to your sims 4 game and paste that info into ReShade’s effects box. Then go into your textures file and do the same things for the textures box in ReShade.

When you paste them into the ReShade interface they should look something like this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\reshade-shaders\Shaders

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\reshade-shaders\Textures

Of course, if you didn’t install this on your C drive it might be a bit different, but you need to find that from wherever you installed Sims 4.

Once you’ve done all that the issue should be fixed and it’ll now load up all 60 effects and textures that you’ve downloaded every time you start up Sims 4 or tab back into your game after alt tabbing out!!!!! .................

So, hooray for it working properly now, BUT GOODNESS DOES THIS ANNOY ME. So like. If you’re going to download a preset from someone else (youtube tutorial I linked already shows how to do that) then I suggest keeping all the files you’ve downloaded. Especially if you’re switching between multiple presets for different occasions. There’s lots of ReShade presets all over tumblr, btw. So have fun looking them up if that’s what you want to do!

But I’m not doing that. I don’t need all of this. It’s giving me a lag for no reason. SO I DELETED A WHOLE BUNCH OF EFFECTS ‘CUZ FUQ THIS LOADING TIME.

Be careful not to delete anything important, though. In the shaders folder is the only folder I deleted anything inside of. Anything that was installed in the reshade-shaders folder I left alone. But inside the shaders or textures folder that’s inside of that reshade-shaders folder should be fine to delete things. BUT DON’T DELETE FILES THAT IT NEEDS TO RUN~

Anything that is a .fhx file you need to keep. Anything that is a .fx file is simply the effect itself and is safe to delete. I didn’t delete anything in my textures folder because when I downloaded the whole thing from the forum the textures folder didn’t have much in it. This might be different if you were able to install correctly in the first place.

Anyways! The files I ended up keeping were all the .fhx files and the following effects: Colorfulness.fx, Vibrance.fx, and DPX.fx

Colorfulness and Vibrance increase the saturation and vibrancy of your game and DPX is one that overall birghtens everything (I think). There’s lots of other effects that do the same things as these but those three are my favorites. Well, I don’t use DPX, it makes it a bit too bright for my eyes, but I decided to keep that one because whenever I’m able to get Seasons, if rainy/snowy days make the game seem way too dark I might want to enable DPX just for those days.

But for normal sunny days, just checking Colorfulness and Vibrance is enough for me~ I didn’t even mess with the sliders on how much you want it to effect the game because I don’t want to deal with those kind of advanced settings. I just pushed the check mark box on those two and done!

Now that I only have 3 effects and then the few textures that I never use but aren’t hurting anything by being there, it doesn’t even have a loading time to get ReShade to run properly when starting up my Sims 4 or tabbing back into it. ReShade is just ready to go right away!

So if you’re wanting to brighten up your game, but have a slower computer and most lighting mods and/or ReShade being the way it normally is lags your game too much, you could consider doing what I did! :D

Also, with ReShade, you need to change the way you take screenshots now. Doing it with the C button just takes a picture of your naked game, not the ReShade effects.

So, ReShade’s default hotkey for taking screenshots is Prt Scrn, so you can use that button now or you can change which button you want to take screenshots in the settings tab of ReShade’s interface. But the point is just pushing C doesn’t capture the ReShade effects so you’ll need a different button!

Also! In ReShade’s settings tab, you need to change the screenshot format if you want to upload your ReShade screenies to tumblr! Its default is set to Bitmap, which tumblr doesn’t support, so change it so it saves as a PNG file instead!!!

You can also change the path for where it’s going to drop your screenshots off at. The default is set to Sims 4′s bin folder, so if you want it to drop off screenshots in a different folder that’s dedicated to just screenshots and doesn’t have your game’s other important things in it, you’ll need to change the path for that (it’s the same as when you changed the path for it to find the effects and textures, just copy paste where you want it to go).

Keep in mind that if you move the folder you told ReShade to dump its screenshots at then you’ll need to update the path in ReShade’s interface or it won’t be able to find the folder and you won’t get your screenies~

So yea! That’s all the info. I have!! I hope this helps someone that wants to use ReShade but has been confused about it like I was!! 😂

CREATING YOUR AUTOMATIC WIP MAKER

Preparation:

Since this is an automated process, you'll need to set aside a directory where you will NEVER move these files. I created a directory in my artwork drive that is dedicated to files that are made specifically for automation. That way they don't get caught in the fray of any other files. Tucked away in a dark corner where they only speak when spoken to is exactly where you want them. Like enslaved podlings except digital files so there's no ethical questions.

THE STAMP

Create a WIP Stamp you'd like to put on your artwork. It will need to be visible on both dark and light backgrounds. I made a black splash and added white text over it with my information. I've made this mark nice and big so that it can be used on any size image without a loss in quality. Really big. Like this sucker is 2283x1190 at 150 dpi big. I ain't kiddin' around.

THE SCRIPT

Before you create your action, you'll need your script ready to include in the action. This script will make a JPG image of your file in the same directory as your working PSD file. STEP ONE: Open up Notepad/Notepad II and paste the following code into a new document:

STEP TWO: Save it to your Scripts folder and call it something you'll remember. Set the filetype to 'All Files' and give it a .jsx extention

Name your Script file and give it the correct extension If you go into the folder later and realize that your file ends in .jsx.txt - It's okay. Just edit it and take the .txt off. It won't work if .txt is on there so just be sure to remove it.

You're ready to record!

RECORD YOUR ACTION

Open up your Actions Panel. You can find it under Window > Actions or press Alt+F9

Press record and here we go!

Step 1: Save

This is important because we will be using the revert command to undo everything at the end and we don't want to accidentally revert to a phase where we lose work.

Step 2: Flatten Image

This makes the image easier for the computer to process during the action because the file size is smaller. This is located in the Layer dropdown at the bottom.

Step 3: Place Image, Press Enter to place.

This adds your watermark. I use 'Place Embeded' because it doesn't matter and we'll revert all our changes anyway. Navigate to your watermark file. If you made it nice and big, it should appear as large as it can fit on the canvas in the current orientation, right in the center.

Press enter to accept the mark's position. Do not move it or resize it yet.

Step 4: Rasterize Layer

Pretty self explanatory. Right click the watermark layer to open the menu and select Rasterize Layer. Now the mark has a new 100% size and we can resize it in proportion to the piece.

Step 5: Transform Layer

From the top menu, go to Edit > Free Transform or press Ctrl+T. DO NOT resize using the corners of the selection box. You'll want to use the percentages box up here so that the action can record it properly. I set mine to 70%. I want my mark to be big in order to compensate for my shortcomings, like my height.

Step 6: Select All

Get the dancing ants! You should still be on the watermarks layer. From the top menu, click Select > Select All or press Ctrl+A to select the entire canvas.

Step 7: Align the Layer

Layer > Align Layers to Selection > Your Choice - I want it on the bottom.

Lather, rinse, repeat to move it to on side. My marks usually go on the right.

Step 8: Layer > Align Layers to Selection > Your Choice

Boop.

Step 9: Nudge it

Using the arrow keys, put it in the exact spot you want it in. DO NOT CLICK AND DRAG. This will not record correctly. This command won't appear in the list until you move to the next step so don't worry when it doesn't show up immediately.

OPTIONAL: BE FANCY

If you like your mark as it is, then skip this part. I like to add an effect because I'm a tryhard. OPTIONAL STEP: STOP RECORDING FIRST. Play with the layer effects to find one you like. When you make your choice, set the layer back to Normal before you click record again. I like Difference in this case because it applies my Black splash only when the background is light.

Step 10: Revert

This resets the canvas back to whence you came.

STOP RECORDING.

That's it! You now have an action that instantly saved a marked WIP for you! It's now saved in the same folder as your original PSD file and has the same name, with a number added after it. If you're having trouble, go through these instructions again with a fine toothed comb. Actions can be VERY picky and one wrong click can botch the whole thing so I've tried my best to make this as simple as possible. Hope you were able to get it working! For the hot sauce I had jarred harissa to which I added a little lemon juice and water to make it more spreadable. I wish I had rinsed the rice before I cooked it because it was a little gummy.

After many conversations with each other where our partners watched agape as we talked for HOURS about nothing but food: what to cook it, how to cook it, what to cook next, what we wish we were cooking RIGHT NOW - my brother, A, and I decided to each try the same recipe and then write about our experiences. Following this post, we may not always make the same recipes, but we will cook with gusto and report back via this website. We hope to be able to share with our family and friends what we would normally share with each other via long FaceTime conversations.

I was born first, so naturally, I tried this recipe out first. It was the very beginning of COVID19 lockdown and I was still excited to try to cook different things at home in the absence of restaurants and many takeout options. Starting with this recipe was a no-brainer. There is nothing like cart chicken and rice. I like to turn it into a health food by paying the extra $1 to get pita AND rice. I lived in two cities famous for their food trucks before recently moving to a food desert (not really, I’m being dramatic lol) that, despite having about 1 million colleges, lacks food trucks. Anyhow, I missed New York and since I use food to connect me with people and places I love, was inspired to try this recipe, and it was a BANGER. The rice was tasty and reminded me of goya yellow rice; the chicken was incredible, tender and flavorful; and the white sauce, while didn’t really strike me as very similar to cart chicken and rice, was delicious and went nicely with the chicken and rice. I stuck with tradition and served it with shredded iceberg lettuce, chopped tomato, and (unnecessary but delicious) pita. Overall, I think the real winner was the chicken. It had a great crust from the cast iron pan and the style of marinate, dry off, then add reserved sauce worked really well. Don’t be shocked by the amount - it makes about 3-4 tablespoons of marinade, and you’re expected to use only half to marinate pounds of chicken and then theother half as sauce - but it ends up perfect. I think my only suggestion is that I’d make more all at once because I ended up having to make more to finish up the rice and sauce. It’s a technique I may try again in the future (for example, with fajita-style chicken).

Modifications: Took some thoughts from Thrillist’s Halal Guys White sauce and added cornstarch because ain’t nobody got time for Xantham gum. added crushed up chilli arbol to the store-bought harissa.

My sister texted me that she found a SeriousEats article on Halal Cart Style chicken. I was shocked, not only that the article existed, but that I haven’t come across it during my toilet-top perusing of everything J Kenji Lopez-Alt has ever written. I had often thought about making halal cart chicken at home, and had even done homemade cart-style gyro using my rotating spit from Amazon, but never got close to the real-deal Halal Guys taste.

My sister said it came out perfectly, and the only issue was that she needed more chicken. I was skeptical – not because my sister has bad taste; she doesn’t. But because I have always been the supreme fast-food fatass of my family. Sure, make your “homemade burger” with lean ground beef and no crust cooked at low temperature (ew). I spend hours and hours trying to recreate Five Guys down to the T – even looking for the crappy artificial ingredients that make it what it is.

The rice recipe – looks solid. Toast the rice for a bit with oil and Turmeric, then let the chicken stock penetrate and flavor. Can’t imagine the Halal Guys recipe being that much difference. The Chicken – I need to pick up a few ingredients (Coriander seed? Do I need to call my mom to ship a Thali of Indian spices?).

The sauce – half yogurt, half mayo, a splash of Vinegar, and Parsley? Sounds delicious, but there’s no way it’s that simple. You see, when I was a super studious Rutgers student, we used to pile into my friend D’s SUV at 1 AM, and drive to New York. Not to hit a bar/club (we were broke) or even to visit anyone – we wanted HALAL GUYS. And typically I would come home with a chicken over rice, a lamb over rice, and an entire bottle of the white sauce. This would be used over the next month to add flavor to eggs, boneless wings, quesadillas, and pretty much anything else I could think of. Needless to say, I was a Halal Guys White Sauce fanatic – and was certain that cracking the code wasn’t this easy.

I did some more research – Thrillist had a recipe pretty much scientifically breaking down the white sauce, adding things like sumac, caraway, things that you wouldn’t typically have in your spice cabinet. It seemed like they were a little more focused on recreating that sauce. So I combined the two recipes – the “half mayo half yogurt” and a splash of Vinegar concept from Kenji, and the spices and Xanthan Gum (yeah I definitely wasn’t about to buy Xanthan Gum, Cornstarch sufficed as a thickening agent just fine.)

Hot sauce. The HALAL GUYS HOT SAUCE IS THE HOTTEST SAUCE. I’ve seen plenty-a-fratboy get both their face and butt destroyed by this stuff. A tiny bit goes a long way. Kenji’s recipe called for a Harissa style hot sauce, but I was hard pressed to find a Harissa paste that nearly matches. But I had to be thankful that the grocery store at the foot of my building had Harissa at all – especially given the quarantine situation. The other thing the grocery store has that is otherwise hard to find: Mexican dried chilis. A couple toasted Arbol Chiles mashed up into the Harissa paste (with a mortar and pestle because I’m not a plebian) gave it the needed heat.

So I made the chicken marinade – some oil, spices, other stuff – interestingly the shocking part was the small volume. There was probably about 3 OZ total of marinade, and the recipe calls for reserving half of it. I confirmed with my sister that I didn’t mess up the numbers.Brown the chicken until cooked through, take it off the pan and refrigerate. Interesting – rarely do you see something outside of French fries where it’s preferred that you double-cook. My wife made the rice – I hate making rice. In any case, I followed the recipe and boy, she’s a beaut (see picture above).

Interesting, the rice was bright highlighter yellow. More what you would see at a random Astoria halal cart as opposed to the true blue 53rd street meat slingers. I re-read the article and something struck me – this was not a HALAL GUYS copycat, but a halal cart copycat. And boy did they nail it. It tastes exactly like the cart outside of my old Grand Central office.

We ate this every night for 3 days and we still wanted more. This is one for the books team.
