the curse of being autisticly into anime figures is that some of the best craftsmanship is on lewd figs, which I have no personal desire to collect but have to admire. they tend to have a nuance in the way that flesh especially is rendered that looks so much more lifelike than even my nicest scale fig. hair sculpts, body fat, physics get an amount of attention that non-lewds usually don’t. out of all of my mikus, the one with the most cohesive and somewhat realistic anatomy is my bi-cute bunny miku, the closest thing I have to a lewd. the takeaway I’m forced to accept is that people do their best artwork when they’re horny about it

When you bring him to your apartment for the first time
You led him down the hall towards your place, glad he was a step behind and couldn’t see your anxiousness. You hadn’t brought a man into your space in quite a while. You apartment was your sanctuary away from work, away from the bustle of the city outside. It was very unequivocally you. Somehow, you felt the space explained you in a way that you weren’t able to, and you wanted him to see it. You wanted him to know you. Quickly you unlocked the door and stepped inside, him holding the door for you and closing it quietly as he stepped in after you.
It was chock full of odd art on the walls, plants reaching for the light, crystals plopped unceremoniously all around. Color abounds, with no true color scheme to be found. It’s a bit wild, like it’s inhabitant. A bit unrefined, a bit magical. Lamps and warm light were added wherever they could fit.  Books, some bound beautifully and touched infrequently, others with torn covers and bargain bin stickers slapped on the front are all mixed together and have found homes stacked across multiple surfaces and bookshelves and the floor.
He is immediately distracted by everything. He had always thought of you as magic. Art personified. He’d seen it in what you could do, both in your work and just simply as you changed the energy of whatever room you entered. Your living quarters only further proved this to him. Here he was, in your sacred space, and he could feel it here, too. Feel your touch on everything, your choices, your unending warmth. He wanted to feel like you chose him, too. You chose him to be in this space with you. That had to mean something.
He hardly noticed as you turned on the coffee pot, or you ruffling around in the refrigerator, pulling out hummus and some other odds and ends that all seemed not to match. He appeared in the kitchen as you started compiling an assortment of food onto a wooden cutting board. Olives, peppers, boiled egg, figs, grapes. Simple, delicious. He just stood in admiration. Something out of what appeared to be nothing. Magic, he thought.
He grabbed a cluster of grapes and walked back into the living room as you followed.
Hoping your face wouldn’t give you away like it always seemed to, you liked the way he looked in your living room. Among your things. It was a confirmation you didn’t know you were silently asking for. You watched as he walked closer to the walls, slowly taking in the framed pieces of artwork that you’ve collected over the years. “A lot of those are from artists I’ve just found online, instagram.” You secretly hoped he didn’t think some of them too weird.
He stopped at a framed picture of you and your mom, smack dab in the middle of all the art. He pointed to it.
“Art. Both of you.”
Neither of you could break away from each other’s eyes. Your face definitely couldn’t hide it now as a wave of emotion spread through you. Moisture collected at the bottom of your eyes, but a smile came across your lips.
He stepped closer to you. “I feel like I can see into your heart in here.” He said, reaching for the front of your sweater. You complied easily, like liquid forming to its vessel, inching as close to him as you could without being completely pressed to his body. You sighed. He got it. You knew he would.
Suddenly it seemed like all of your nerves were awake, aware of the air encompassing every part of you, your whole body anticipating his touch. A light ringing in your ears made you realize that all of your senses were on high alert. You could hear your heart pounding.
“Do you like it in here?” You ask softly, knowing he’d understand the question was asked for both sides of his metaphor.
“It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” He whispered, before taking your chin between his forefinger and thumb and pressing a soft but impassioned kiss to your lips.

“For the Love of the Sun”, an Essay Devoted to the Life and Passions of Vincent van Gogh
92 million miles. That’s how far the sun is from the Earth. If the sun were any closer or farther away, we would be dead in about eight minutes. But nonetheless the sun has a way of capturing an audience (mostly on a particularly hot summer’s day). In art, the sun is often present. It represents light, joy, and even celebration. And for one famous artist, Vincent van Gogh, the sun aroused the ecstasy of his life.
Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) is known today as a famous artist. He is known most for his works Starry Night (1889) and The Potato Eaters (1885). But throughout his entire life he only sold one piece out of the close to nine hundred works that he created. Vincent spent his life in his sorrow and channeled that into his art. He didn’t just paint things, he felt everything while he painted. His constant growing depression and insanity furthered his drive to create his artwork and express all the things that were creating the ever unstable storm inside of him. Until, in 1890, he borrowed a revolver and shot himself in the stomach, lying against a tree in a meadow. “Misery will never end.” he had previously declared to his brother.
Vincent hadn’t originally set out to be an artist when he began his adult life. Art had just been a hobby, introduced to him by his mother when he was only a child, sick in bed. He was a gentle, passionate, unsociable red-haired boy. He respected his father, who was a clergyman, and he held an inward affinity towards his mother. But no one was as close to Vincent as his brother, Theo. Theo sacrificed everything for his beloved brother. He used his money, his patience, his time, and his effort to help Vincent up again whenever he had fallen. As the eldest over five other siblings, Vincent’s parents constantly worried about him making his way in the world. They had arranged for him to go to the Hague where they had obtained him a post as a salesman at a branch in the Paris firm of Groupil through the influence of his father’s brother, who was also named Vincent. In the three years  that he worked there, Vincent became very clever at packing and unpacking boxes of books and pictures. When he was twenty, he was transferred to the London branch. While living there, he would constantly sketch in his free time and send his drawings to his mother and Theo. There were many opportunities to study art in London and Vincent soon began to develop his own preferences and tastes.
Vincent’s first fall came from his landlady’s daughter, a beautiful young girl that constantly led him on while he fell for her and then crushing him when he learned that she was already engaged to another man. He became upset and temperamental with customers and bosses and was soon dismissed from their branch. He disliked all the artwork he created and instead constantly visited the English church and decided to devote his life to the poor.
He had always wanted to be a preacher and to take care of the less fortunate. He began by going back to school to fill the gaps in his education. But fourteen months into studying, he gave up. Vincent just wasn’t up for the scholar’s life. So instead he became a preacher on his own account. The biggest problem was that Vincent was very bad at giving sermons. But, nonetheless, he kept on his evangelical mission. He gave everything he had to the poor and travelled from town to town in worn out clothing and he slept on the ground in a wooden hut. He constantly took care of sick and injured miners in Borinage.
His father didn’t understand Vincent’s almost crazed religious zeal. But Vincent continued his journey and gradually his health grew dangerous. He ate bad food, slept outside, and was constantly around disease. He eventually began drawing again to help keep his peace of mind and, eventually, took refuge with his father. He struggled with his desire to be a preacher and his artistic tendencies. Finally, the art won him over and he abandoned his life as a missionary to begin sketching and painting again. His brother Theo supported his decision.
When he was twenty-eight, another woman came into his life and he fell in love with her. The only downsides were that she was his cousin and that she did not love him back. Her name was Cornelia (Kee) Adriana Vos-Stricker and she was a recent widow left with an eight year old son. When Vincent professed his love for her and proposed marriage she replied with “Never, no, never”. In a letter to his brother Theo, Vincent wrote, “But now you will realize that I hope to leave no stone unturned that might bring me closer to her, and that is my intention: To go on loving her until in the end she loves me too.” His parents, aunt, and uncle did not take well to his immense affections and scolded him and rebuked him for it. But Vincent held steadfast, convinced that she was the one for him. “She, and no other.” He would constantly say. After many refusals and denial to even speak with her or see her, Vincent wrote to Theo, “Then, not at once, but very soon, I felt that love die within me; a void, an infinite void came in its stead. You know I believe in God, I did not doubt the power of love, but then I felt something like, ‘My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me,’ and everything became a blank. I thought, Have I been deceiving myself? … ‘O God, there is no God!’ That cold, terrible reception in Amsterdam was too much for me, my eyes are opened at last.” And he gave up on loving Cornelia and his first real bouts of mental illness had ensued.
And so, alone, broken hearted, and mentally unstable, Vincent travelled to the Hague in Paris and remained there for two years. While there he met Clarisa (Sien) Maria Hoornik. As it’s practically in her last name, Sien was a prostitute. A pregnant prostitute. She was also a drunk, she smoked cigars, she spent her life in physical and moral sorrow, and she had a young daughter and soon a son. Nevertheless Vincent fell for her and took her and her children into his small studio home with him. She became his muse and he sketched her in one of his more famous pieces called Sorrow in which, at the bottom, he writes, “How can there be lonely, deserted women in the world?” Vincent got to live as if he finally had a family of his own for eighteen months before Theo came to the rescue for Vincent’s sake. Vincent had been spending all his time and money for Sien and her children and didn’t even buy food for himself. Theo encouraged Vincent to go to Drenthe to paint and Vincent did, ending the only domestic relationship he would ever have. Sien went back to prostitution, later married another man, and in 1904, threw herself into the Schelde river and drowned.
Soon Vincent went back to his parents in Nuenen and set up his atelier in a church. He devoted all of his time to his artwork and was rapidly growing into his artistic maturity. His palette became lighter and his mood lifted when he went to practice in the Academy in Antwerp.  Once he had exhausted Antwerp, he and Theo moved in together. Vincent got to know many artists, most of them in their artistic prime, in 1886. But Vincent was always different. He had very strong opinions on art and he saw life in a way on one else could understand. Being partially mad did help with that a bit. Vincent absorbed, learned, and always held to his love of yellow and the sun. Paris had liberated and awakened his sensuality. “How wonderful the colour yellow is. It stands for the sun.” Vincent once said.
“Oh the beautiful sun of midsummer! It beats upon my head, and I do not doubt that it makes one a little queer.” Wrote Vincent in Arles. He loved the colour yellow and there was no better example than the sun. He glorified the sun in his artwork, it was his greatest love of all. But, like his many female loves, the sun did not love him back. He was a fanatical worshipper of the sun and devoted himself to it nonetheless. In his piece The Night Cafe (1888) the lights hanging from the roof were like smaller versions of the sun, giving light to the night. Yellow flowers could also represent the sunshine to Vincent. Vase With Fourteen Flowers (1889) was like a vase of fourteen little suns for Vincent. It was like Vincent could feel the “soul” of flowers, his sister would say. The sun was a symbol of warmth, light, and happiness. In Enclosed Wheat Field With Reaper (1889) it can almost feel as if the warm morning sun is beating down on the neck of the admirer. The colour yellow helped Vincent express himself more in his work. At one point, he had even rented a house, painted it yellow, hung up pictures of sunflowers and named it “The House Of Friends”. His original idea was to have communal living between artists where they could all paint together and live happily. But only Ganguin would accept his invitation.
Despite this happy period in his life, Vincent’s mental health was still diminishing. He was always searching for the answer to happiness. He thought it would be the sun, but the sun could not love him like he loved it. He thought it could be a woman. He wrote to Theo in 1881, “Then I thought to myself, I’d like to be with a woman. I can’t live without love, without a woman. I wouldn’t care a fig for life if there wasn’t something infinite, something deep, something real.” But later, in 1887, he wrote to his sister Willemien, “For my part, I still continually have the most impossible and highly unsuitable love affairs from which, as a rule, I emerge only with shame and disgrace.” He spent a lot of time in brothels and even cut off his ear and left it at one at three in the morning, assumingly for Sein. His friend Ganguin also had a taste of Vincent’s insanity. Vincent had been known to have thrown a glass at Ganguin’s head and, at one point, had threatened him with a razor. Vincent was soon after taken to a hospital where his mental health diminished him to hallucinations. Theo came to take care of him and a fortnight later Vincent had calmed down. But by then the inhabitants of Arles had a petition stating that Vincent was a madman and could not be left to himself again. He went back to the hospital and soon he checked himself into St. Remy, a mental asylum. He painted many amazing pieces in this time and he put his heart and soul into it. He felt peace for a while and had clarity of mind. But fresh crises of life pressed on him and he ended up swallowing a quantity of his paints. At his brother’s suggestion,  Vincent placed himself under the care of Dr. Gachet in Auvers-sur-Oise. Vincent began to show great attitude and health with his cheerful appearance. His time with Dr. Gachet was pleasant and Gachet was kind to him and complimented his art. Vincent painted many wonderful pieces in his time with Gachet and showed his amazing skill and technique.
On July 27, 1890, Vincent borrowed a revolver. He claimed he wanted to shoot at crows. He went out into a field, leaned up against a tree trunk, and shot himself in the stomach. To know what was going on in his mind as he bled out would be to know and love another even though they have died too early. Maybe in his time at the hospital and with Gachet, Vincent had finally found what he had been searching for his whole life. Maybe he found it and it was enough and he could finally be released from his sorrow. He painted some of his best work in the six years before his death. Maybe, just maybe, Vincent had finally found happiness. Through a lifetime of sorrow and pain and disappointment and of constantly searching for the key to life, there’s a possibility he had. And I hope to God that he did.
“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.” -Vincent van Gogh
Theo followed Vincent to the grave six months later and they are buried side by side in the little churchyard of Auver-sur-Oise.

THE ADVENTURE SERIES - CUBE³
The next in the series of ‘Rejected Topics’ is one that is very strange but still interesting to look at.
Cubism which started in the early 20th century was a movement that changed the way people look at reality, mostly through paintings and sculptures.
I find it interesting that all these art movements are like ‘we are going to change the way we look at regular things like a face’ because we will look at these works and the first thing we try to figure out is what it is. We don’t really admire the perspective of the artist, we just try to find out what it is, not what the artist sees.
As designers, we can use this to our advantage by making something simple when looking at it but if you look deeper, you find it’s meaning. I did this in my VISCOMM project last year and I didn’t even realise I was doing it.
Tumblr media
Fig 1. My VISCOMM project from last year that has a lot of obvious and hidden symbols. Pay attention to the colours and the logo in the corner.
Anyway, back to Cubism.
Cubism is characterised by the use of cubes and geometric shapes to represent objects, people or faces. Unlike Art Deco, there is no sense of luxury in the artworks produced but there is a sense of emotion within the works, which is something very strange to represent. I kind of like it.
The main face (he he) of Cubism is Pablo Picasso, who (along with Georges Braque) pioneered the Cubism movement. When you Google Cubism, 7 out of the first 9 artworks it shows you are by Pablo Picasso. Safe to say he is the first artist we think of when we think of Cubism.
He created a lot of work which involved the human form but stripped it down to it’s basic shapes, using only geometric shapes in his works, which creates a weird form factor. It’s kind of interesting to see something so strange but so emotional.

Fig 2. The Weeping Woman by Pablo Picasso. I found it on the NGV website so next time I go to the NGV International I’ll probably hunt this down SOURCE>
So, after all of this praise, ‘Why didn’t I do this topic for my project?’ I really enjoy this movement and probably will look into it more, but I think I didn’t do it because something else beat it. It might also be the fact that I’m more interested in something that appeals to my ideas and that I can relate to more.
Sorry Cubism, maybe next time.
To end this post, here is a picture I made back in primary school when I was 11 year old. Enjoy!

The Cat in the Hat Returns: VOOM! (Genesis 3:6-10; Isaiah 1:15-18) - The Gospel of Dr. Seuss series #1, preached 3/1/2020
Tumblr media
My kids are artists. They are made in the image of a creative God, a God who delights in drawing rainbows across gray skies, who loves to paint the clouds orange, purple, and gold, a God who knelt in the mud to form beings out of dust.
My kids are artists. Like the God who made them, they look at the world and search for ways to transform it, to make something new, to bring color and manifest joy.
And I appreciate their creativity; I love how my children have learned to embrace their visions, to dream their dreams, to care enough about the world they live in to work to make it more beautiful. I love when their creative spirit leads them to new solutions to their own problems; I love when their creative spirit helps them made new friends, helps them try new things; I love when their creative spirit produces amazing artwork to frame and hang on our family walls.
I appreciate their creativity a little less, however, when they are so inspired that they try to skip the middleman and create their artwork directly on our family’s walls. Or floors. Or furniture. Or skin. Or clothes.
And by now, our kids know the expectations. They know that crayons and markers are only for paper – they know, because they’ve been taught, reminded, caught, punished, taught and reminded over and over again. They’ve had to clean up their own messes; they’ve learned just how hard it is to erase pencil marks off dressers and scrub markers from bedroom walls.
But sometimes, sometimes, the call of inspiration is too much to resist; sometimes, even though they know better, sometimes our little people just can’t help themselves.
Not too long ago, our five-year-old felt the creative spirit calling her, and she was moved to design a new art installation on our bathroom wall. She worked with a variety of media: pencils and crayons and markers and watercolors and lip gloss, brought together in pursuit of one glorious and colorful vision.
My daughter really is a great artist. But she also is a smart little girl, and even as she admired her handiwork, she knew that mom and dad would probably have very different feelings about what she’d done.
So she turned her pencil around, and started trying to erase the evidence from the bathroom wall. Unfortunately, that pencil eraser just made smudges and smears and made everything look worse.
But B didn’t panic. Fortunately, she was already in the bathroom, and there was a sink right next to her. So she started the water, and she dipped her paintbrush into the water, and she started trying to paint her masterpiece away.
The wet paintbrush did some wondrous things to blend the colors, but the art remained. So B turned next to the bar of soap. Again, she used her paintbrush, dabbing it first in the soap, then attempting to use the soap to swirl the colors away.
Again, she discovered a new artistic technique. But again, the artwork stubbornly remained.
And now she was starting to get a bit desperate. She reached for the bottle of hand sanitizer, pumped out a handful, and tried smearing it directly on the wall. Hand sanitizer is pretty strong, but mostly, it just transferred more of the colors to B’s hands, while leaving incriminating little handprints behind.
She reached for the towel, tried to wipe her hands clean, and tried to wipe the whole mess – the paint, the crayons, the markers, the gooey lip gloss, the water, the soap, the sanitizer – she tried to wipe it away. And she ended up with a colorful towel, and a smudged and blotchy wall, and a panic in her little heart.
She did the only thing left to do: she scrubbed her hands, balled up the towel in the corner, turned off the lights, closed the door, and walked away.
Maybe you can relate: maybe it’s been a few years since you created artwork on the walls, but maybe – like B, or like the Cat in the Hat – maybe you’ve made a mess which you only later discover you just can’t figure out how to clean up. Maybe it’s the words spoken in anger, which you just can’t take back – maybe it’s the email you wish you never sent; maybe it’s the money spent on an impulse which you later regret; or maybe it’s years of neglecting your physical health, only to reap the consequences… or years of letting your fears and insecurities keep you from doing what you really want to do, or trying something new. But no matter what you do, you can’t undo what you’ve done… and no matter how hard you try to fix it, to clean up the mess, you just keep seeming to make it worse.
Eventually, though, it catches up to us. Eventually, reality sets in. Perhaps it surprises you not at all to know that my daughter’s bathroom masterpiece was discovered… it was discovered by her older sister, her wholly unsympathetic older sister, who delighted in tattling, who took great joy in a superior attitude, who scolded and admonished her little sister… until mom and dad reminded her how, at the same age, big sister expressed her creative side with a bottle of red nail polish… all over the bookshelf, and the books, and the box fan, and the carpet, and the walls… We reminded her how her own creative spirit once inspired her to doodle with a permanent marker on the face of a flatscreen television… We reminded her how all of us have made messes, and we all make mistakes.
And suddenly, big sister didn’t have nearly so much to say.
Not one of us is perfect. We are made in the image of the creative God – but we fall short; we make mistakes along the way. All of us have, at times, whether intentionally or not, all of us have made messes of God’s good creation; all of us have disappointed God, and hurt others, and hurt ourselves; all of us have sinned.
And much like my five-year-old artist, much like the Cat in the Big Hat, we find that – try as we may, we just can’t fix it by ourselves. Everything we try just moves the mess around. It’s like a bad attitude: and maybe you manage not to yell at your boss, but instead you yell at the car that cuts you off on the way home; maybe you control your temper with the grandkids, only to let it loose at the server at the restaurant; maybe you keep your cool with your neighbor, only to scream when the kids won’t eat their veggies; or maybe you watch the news, and it makes you feel overwhelmed and anxious, and because no one on the TV listens to you anyway, you end up yelling at your spouse or your best friend instead. Everything we try just moves the stress around. Even if we get the mess out of our own house, we just set it loose in the world – and we can’t ignore it; no matter what we do, we can’t make it go away.
After trying and failing to clean the mess himself, the Cat in the Hat finally asks for help; one friend after another, Cats A, B and C and down through the alphabet all do their best – but nothing works, until finally we meet tiny Cat Z.
And the Cat in the Hat says,
“Z is too small to see. So don’t try. You cannot.
But Z is the cat Who will clean up that spot!...
“He has something called VOOM.
Voom is so hard to get,
You never saw anything Like it, I bet.
Why, Voom cleans up anything Clean as can be!”…
Then the Voom… It went VOOM!
And, o boy! What a VOOM!
Now, don’t ask me what Voom is. I never will know. But, boy!
Let me tell you. It DOES clean up snow!...
[And the Cat said,] “If you ever Have spots, now and then,
I will be very happy To come here again.”
Finally, the whole mess disappears: through the power of this mysterious Voom, which cannot even be seen – but which is the only thing with the power to make everything clean.
“Voom is hard to get,” the book says, and “Don’t ask me what Voom is; I never will know.”
But friends, I know what it is. And the good news is, it’s not “so hard to get” – all you have to do is ask.
Because Voom is the one thing that works, even when our own power fails; Voom is the one thing that can clean us when we can’t clean ourselves; Voom is the one thing that erases our failures and our sins, and allows us to start with a brand new clean slate. Voom is the love of God; friends, “Voom” is the Cat in the Hat’s word for grace.
You can’t control it. You can’t see it. But grace changes everything.
That’s what we see in our scripture for today: grace. In Genesis, a mess is made in the garden; a mess that the first people try to clean up, to hide with some fig leaves – but they can’t hide what they’ve done.
But then God shows up, and offers grace: even in the midst of judgment, they are given real clothing, to protect them in this harsh new world. And later in Isaiah, the prophet speaks to a people suffering in exile, a people who are suffering for their faithlessness, wallowing in the messes they’ve made, and through Isaiah, God promises: though your sins be like scarlet, I will cover them, clean them, fresh as newly-fallen snow.
We are entering the season of Lent: a season which invites us to take a good and honest look at our lives, to face up to the messes we’ve made, the mistakes we’ve tried to sweep under the rug, the flaws and failures we’ve hidden behind a smiling face – Lent invites us to acknowledge our sin. We all have fallen short. We all have made messes, all over the place.
But here is the good news: that’s not where the story has to end. The Cat in the Hat is finally wise enough and courageous enough to ask for help – and we can ask for help, too. And if we do, when we cry out to God, we are given the gift of grace: God’s power to heal us, to cleanse us, and to enable us to begin again.
I hope that my daughters never become so afraid of punishment or failure that they stop creating masterpieces. And I also hope that they are learning that our love is always stronger than our frustration, and no matter what mess they’ve made, if they ask us, we will help them make it right.
And friends, I hope that you know that God’s love for you is so much greater, so much deeper, so much more powerful and patient than our love could ever be. May you have the courage to keep seeking joy; may you have the hope to follow the divine and creative spark within you; and when you mess it all up, may you be strong enough to ask for help… and know that you will always be met with God’s amazing grace.
God, we thank you for hearing us when we ask for help. We thank you that we are not alone in our messes. We thank you for the gift of grace; for giving us voom – that invisible, undeserved, powerful grace. Give us the courage to ask for help; give us the joy that comes from doing the best we can; and by your grace, when we fall, help us start all over again. In Jesus’ name we pray; amen.
Tumblr media
Note: this picture of my little Things meeting The Cat and his friends is a couple of years old, but it will always be one of my favorites! Thank heavens for these little mischief makers. They are worth all the messes. Always.

Hi! I just downloaded photoshop recently and I'm tryna get better at drawing digitally but for some reason I'm havin a real tough time with it like it feels as though I can't transfer my skills from paper to the screen so basically my question is how did you get so good at it? And do you have any advice? Thanks :)
well first off thank u for the compliments haha!!!!
the only way to get used to transferring ur skills to the screen from paper is by practice!!! so be sure to do plenty of that!
and the brushes!! brushes r a key element for me because different textured brushes really make a difference on how ur art will turn out! some nice brushes i use are:- http://digitalbrushes.tumblr.com/post/102929354775/helen-chen-brush-set-my-brush-set-tho-most-are- http://jigokuen.tumblr.com/post/78660442498/some-dc-girls-redesigns-an-extension-to-the
find references!! ik some people r like “ur not a real artist if u ur references” but tbh that’s bs ??? find refs and use them, that’s how u improve as an artist
practice figure drawing, whether digitally or not!! a nice website for free fig drawing is the site https://line-of-action.com/
and find an inspiration! what’s an artist that u really admire? what artists art style do u really like? find one and just copy — if they’re okay with it. copy at first (and if u post it online be sure to credit their art style!!) and then develop it into ur own art style. at least, that’s how I go about it – taking elements from different people’s art styles and making my own version of it.
do studies!! find some great artists/painters or whatever (like j c leyendecker, Frida Kahlo, etc.) and do studies off of their artwork ! portraits studies, clothing studies, etc.
search tutorials online! you’re bound to find something on YouTube or elsewhere! there are also a lot of tumblr accounts that reblog/make art references!
that’s all I could think of for now? anyway thank you for asking me and I hope this is of use !!! and good luck on your art!!!!!!!

‘We want to keep our forest’: why Guyana’s wilderness needs visitors | Travel
I’m sitting atop a pink granite boulder with Rovin, my information. Beneath us is a billowing inexperienced expanse of jungle damaged solely by the sinuous line of a river and a low vary of hills, one in every of which we’re seated on. There isn’t a signal of humanity: no smoke pillars, no clearings, no masts or buildings, not even a jet path throughout the sky. As an alternative, there’s a formation of six red-and-green macaws, cackling as they go, and within the close by fig tree the flitterings of tiny, jewel-like birds in splendid emerald and sapphire livery.
“This space,” says Rovin, pointing forward at an enormous jungle contained in a pure bowl a number of miles throughout, “is unexplored. It belongs to our group, however nobody has been there.” He pauses whereas a pair of black lizards skitter previous. “We’ve had oil firms, loggers and gold miners come right here, however we’ve mentioned no to all of them.”
Once I first thought-about visiting central Guyana, I discovered myself doing a cost-benefit evaluation. On one aspect was the sobering quantity of carbon dioxide produced by the return long-haul flight and three brief inside flights – about 2.eight tonnes in line with myclimate.org (see Carbon Calculation under). Alternatively – with a really massive query mark subsequent to it – have been the potential benefits to communities visited in one of many least explored elements of South America, a rustic that noticed fewer than 300,00Zero travellers final yr.
I had thought this is able to be a troublesome equation to steadiness. With the planet within the grip of a local weather disaster, can there be any justification for such a journey?
Rovin (rear, proper) scanning for wildlife at sundown.
Rovin begins doing the maths for me. “We have now about 350 sq. kilometres of jungle and have utilized to take over one other 350 of what’s now state land. We get about 200 guests a yr and we wish 400, no extra. We don’t need to be wealthy, however we need to hold our forest. We do want cash for medicines, schooling and provides.”
Take away the vacationers and the necessity for an revenue would quickly drive these communities into the arms of loggers, ranchers, goldminers and oilmen.
Rovin is head wildlife information at Rewa Ecolodge, run by members of the Makushi tribe, one in every of 9 Amerindian teams in Guyana. The nation is concerning the dimension of Nice Britain however with solely a tiny fraction of the inhabitants; some 780,00Zero individuals, most residing on the coast. The huge inside is essentially rainforest the place tiny communities are sometimes linked solely by river. Such is the excessive rainfall, the mouth of the Essequibo, the nation’s largest river, is as broad because the Channel at Dover.
After admiring the view, and birds, Rovin and I head down the slim, rocky path. At one level I cease in disbelief: some fool has dropped a big triangle of iridescent blue plastic. I despair of people. The primary piece of litter in days. I bend down. It’s a morpho butterfly.
Rewa Ecolodge. {Photograph}: PR
“You realize what,” I say to Rovin, “your jungle is filled with treasures which can be higher than gold or oil.”
He grins and factors out a green-tailed jacamar, a bee-eater-like fowl, perched in a complicated dapple of leaf and shade. The Guyanan jungle bristles and prickles round us: I discover tiny actions within the leaf litter and see ticks scuttling in direction of my boots, drawn by physique warmth. Later I take away one from my abdomen. Search for and every tree is festooned with ferns, creepers and orchids. Look down inside a fern and there, within the captured rainwater, swim tadpoles and frogs alongside all of the insect larvae and eggs. No surprise this place gobbles up CO2. Calculations by a global staff together with Professor Oliver Phillips of Leeds College put the determine at round 200 tonnes per sq km per yr (see rainfor.org).
Absorption of CO2 by Rewa rainforest estimated at 200 tonnes per sq. kilometres per yr (see the rainfor.org). 350 sq km x 200 = 70,00Zero tonnes
CO2 emissions on return London flight, (utilizing myclimate carbon calculator): return from London Gatwick to Georgetown through Barbados (financial system seat in a big jet) is 2.5 tonnes; Georgetown to Kaieteur (small turboprop plane) is 0.108 tonnes; Kaieteur to Apoteri (estimate) = is 0.05 tonnes; Lethem to Georgetown = is 0.132 tonnes. Whole: 2.79 tonnes per passenger
200 annual guests to Rewa x 2.79 (primarily based on a London flight) = 558 tonnes of CO2
Rovin brings me to the riverbank, the place we board his motorised canoe. I inform him about solar-powered outboards. He had not heard of them. Cease the calculation! What if a vacationer brings a helpful thought? How does that match into any equation? And don’t think about the lodge wouldn’t take up new concepts: it’s already ditched diesel mills and gone completely photo voltaic.
Kevin Rushby takes within the unbelievable view from Kaieteur Falls.
We transfer out into the river and spot one thing swimming. At first I feel it have to be a jaguar within the water, such is the ability and agility, however it’s an enormous river otter, nearly two metres lengthy.
“After we opened the lodge in 2005,” Rovin says, “we stopped the hunters coming in. Now we see an increasing number of of every little thing: otters, macaws, jaguars.” There have been different advantages: males engaged on Brazilian ranches and in Guyanan gold mines have come house. The group is happier and more healthy, usually happy with what had been a troublesome choice.
The Guyanan jungles are a part of the Guiana Defend, an enormous area of north-east South America, a biodiversity hotspot that’s separate from the Amazon and accommodates greater than 1,00Zero fowl species and 269 identified amphibians (extra are always being discovered). Examine that with round 700 birds and 85 amphibians in all of Europe, which is nearly 4 occasions bigger. Many of those Guiana Defend species are endemic. A couple of days earlier I’d trekked by way of jungle close to Kaieteur Falls (the largest single-drop falls on this planet) to see the spectacular Guianan cock-of-the-rock, a fowl extra orange than Donald Trump but tweeting with extra knowledge.
Crimson-and-green macaws flying over Rewa.
Again on the river, we take a aspect channel then switch to a close-by oxbow lake and a paddled boat. The solar is dropping low over the bushes as Rovin offers a deep stomach growl that instantly will get a vigorous response with wild splashing noises from the reedbeds. “Black caimans,” he grins, then factors one out. Subsequent to it, one thing large rolls and I glimpse an extended, scaly again. “Arapaima,” Rovin whispers, the biggest scaled freshwater fish, reaching as much as three metres in size. Rovin is a part of a staff from Rewa group lodge who’ve pioneered the artwork of catch-and-release for these giants. In 2015 it resulted in a world document specimen of 189kg. One other arapaima rolls and an osprey flies over. There are harpy eagles right here too, however we’re not destined to be fortunate in that division.
After returning to the clear and easy riverside lodge, we eat hen and plantains for dinner. A pink-toe tarantula is faraway from one cabin. That evening I carry the lid on the skin bathroom and a frog bounces up, hitting me within the chest. A rustle within the bushes above alerts me to a kinkajou, one thing like a raccoon, however in a genus of its personal. Daybreak brings a symphony of birdsong: the liquid warblings of oropendolas underscored by the percussive rap of red-naped woodpecker and tuneless toucan screeches. A red-rumped agouti, trying like a guinea pig on steroids, scuttles away from the huts pursued by a crested caracara, a sort of forest falcon with a Peaky Blinders haircut.
A savannah hawk flies down a jungle glade within the Kanuki mountains.
Within the boat as soon as once more we transfer upstream, then stroll right into a forest of big mora bushes, a favorite hardwood for loggers who, little doubt, would like to get their fingers on them. As we stroll, my thoughts drifts again to my carbon calculations. If every customer generates 2.79 tonnes of CO2, I muse, and there are 200 of them, that makes 558 tonnes (assuming all of them got here from so far as London). However look how a lot CO2 the Rewa group forests may be absorbing yearly (350 sq km x 200): over 70,00Zero tonnes.
My ballpark mathematical reveries are disturbed by Rovin. Within the gloom of the forest flooring, he’s shining a torch right into a small gap massive sufficient to insert a tennis ball. He’s teasing one thing, twitching the tip of a stick on the entrance. There’s sudden motion and a creature pounces, an enormous spider, bristling with annoyance. “Not a giant one,” says Rovin. “Don’t go too shut; they will fireplace poisoned hairs at you.” This nine-inch monster is the Goliath bird-eater spider, the biggest tarantula on the planet (they will attain 12 inches throughout). Whether or not it does genuinely eat birds is the topic of debate, however Rovin has little doubt. “They ambush forest flooring birds just like the antpitta.” Pity the antpitta. A pint-sized squirt that meets its finish below the arachnid equal of Mako Vunipola. If loggers got here right here, nonetheless, it might be these spectacular spiders who have been crushed.
A black caiman snoozing in an ox bow lake beside the Rewa River.
My time in Rewa is over and I take the boat 55 miles upriver earlier than transferring to a different group lodge: Surama. Right here they’ve the Iwokrama forest and the same inhabitants dimension to Rewa, round 300 sq km. They, too, want comparatively small numbers of tourists to make sure their jungle stays untouched. 4 different Amerindian communities have launched into this kind of tourism, however whereas the scope for extra is large, subsequent yr ExxonMobil will begin pumping oil from offshore rigs, doubtlessly remodeling the Guyanan financial system.
I stroll alone to the sting of the jungle and watch a hummingbird work over the bushes. I’m wishing my journey was longer, as long-haul journeys must be. Guyana has a repute for being costly, however there’s scope to journey cheaply for those who can sleep in a hammock. Buses and boats will take you all the way in which throughout nation to the Brazil border – I like to recommend Waikin ranch for those who’d wish to see big anteaters and nice horned owls.
I drift up a path into the forest and watch a pair of macaws squabble on a excessive department till a feather drifts down. I chase after it and locate a scarlet tail feather so long as my forearm. The jungle, it appears, is casting its treasures at my toes.
• The journey was supplied by Wilderness Explorers, which is providing a 10-day Guyana package deal solely for Guardian readers for £2,000pp (a reduction of 15%); the journey consists of Georgetown, Rewa, Surama and Kaieteur Falls however excludes worldwide flights (have to be booked by 31 December, quote reserving code GuardianGuyana).
