9月も終わりというと、例年なら東北の北の方であれば少しずつ紅葉が見られるようになるわけですけれど、今年の夏はとても長く、日中はまだ暑い日が続いていました。 久しぶりに栗駒山が見たいなと思い、足を伸ばして周遊してきました。本当は、さっと山も歩いてきたかったのです。ただ、周遊もするとなると、時間がぜんぜん足りなかった…。今回、栗原市を起点に奥羽山脈を越えて湯沢市、そして戻って一関市と一周したかったのです。 まずは栗原市へ。築館ICをおりて、天気のいい中気持ちよくドライブ。 かつての一迫町からは、栗駒山とその周辺の山々を見ることができます。もう稲刈りも終わっていますが、黄金色の大地と山々のコントラストがとてもきれいです。 このまま国道398号線を西へと進み、湯浜峠を過ぎると秋田県湯沢市。 さらに少し進むと、皆瀬地区に入ります。 この皆瀬の、小安峡大噴湯を久しぶりに見たかったのです。…

Adhd travel blog day two

Feat - Tokyo station is my nemesis.

Day plan: go to Tokyo station. Put stuff in a locker. Top up suica card. Sort out ticket for Shinkansen. Go shopping. Catch Shinkansen to next destination (ichinoseki).

What actually happened: look for a locker for half an hour. Get overwhelmed. Top up suica card. Go to ticket desk. Wrong card so can’t pay, have to go back to locker get the right card to pay for the ticket. Go back and pay for ticket. Catch the wrong train and end up back at Tokyo station??? Finally go shopping. Buy an ice cream. Back to Tokyo station. Where tf are the lockers this place is an actual labyrinth. Stress about wether you’re on the right platform for the Shinkansen. Get on Shinkansen!

Another day done. I feel a little better than yesterday but I’m so glad to be out of Tokyo for a bit. I do not like cities and I don’t like shopping centres. I can’t tell if I’m more or less stressed than when I’m not on holiday. I still feel like I’m disassociated half the time or I could just be tired. But I’m at my next stop and it’s nice and quiet here.

I also managed to go to a massage cafe which was nice. I didn’t end up doing much shopping just checked out a few stores in kappabashi and didn’t buy anything.

A number name today! In this case, 一関 is read Ichinoseki, but it can also be Ichiseki, Issemi, Ichizeki, or Iseki.

一, which means one, has gotta be the easiest kanji there is. It’s read hito, hito.tsu, ichi, or ittsu.

関 has two meanings, broadly speaking. One is gateway, connection, or barrier—think a checkpoint as you enter a new territory. The other means to involve or concerning, e.g. ●●に関する (__ ni kan suru) “relating to __.” It can be read seki, zeki, kaka.waru, karakuri, kannuki, or kan.

Also my husband joked that this family should live in Nichome because then they’d be 一石二鳥 isseki nicho, which means “two birds with one stone.” Love proverbs that translate literally! I laughed, a lot, and he just looked at me blankly and said that he'd lost respect for me for enjoying such a bad joke. His joke. Whatcha gonna do, I guess.

The fourth dog on the list, the (American) Akita! A spitz-type breed.

The Akita originated in the northern, snowy region of Japan known as Akita, 5000 years ago, bred to hunt boar, elk and bears. They grew in popularity for their bravery and loyalty. As dog fighting became more popular Akitas were bred with other breeds, including the Tosa inu, to create a heavier, stronger dog to fight. The breed was almost driven to extinction by World War I and later World war II, and in attempts to revive the breed two lineages were established - Dewa, which had a heavier, "bear-like" appearance with a thicker skull and larger jowls, and "Ichinoseki" - the more "fox-like" Akitas, with thinner jowls and pointier muzzles, and a lighter build (though they retained their wide heads and well-muscled frame, making them still large, powerful dogs). The Dewa line was eventually established in America as guard dogs, and became known as the American Akita (or just Akita), while the Dewa line was further bred in Japan for fighting and hunting, and became known as the Japanese Akita inu (or just Akita inu).

The American Akita, bred to be guard dogs, are known to be aloof with strangers and potentially aggressive towards other animals, especially dogs of similar or larger size, but they are courageous, fiercely loyal and loving towards those considered family.
