While today is the day (well, more like yesterday) that Destiel became canon and elections happened, I wasn’t there personally, nor was I in the Supernatural fandom.

The Madness Combat equivalent to November 5th, 2020 is July 10th, 2022 (or maybe 6? My timezone is JST which is wack), I believe. Not only did we see two Hanks fighting each other, I believe political shit happened in the United Kingdom (or something I don’t remember) where a lot of people resigned, and someone played a theme song that I associate with tomfoolery on a very important place that I forgot the name of. While someone is reporting the news about the mass resignation.

Unlike November 5 2020, I was there personally, and I am in the Madness Combat fandom. I can say that it feels like a fever dream, if me not remembering the details are any indication.

Perhaps it is the way that an ancient city looks, all blues and blacks like the deep ocean has taken over, that makes it so inviting. The majesty and tranquility of a city abandoned, covered in a blanket of unease is something that can take one’s breath away.

To Impulse, the ancient city was a playground.

He was as meticulous and careful as he was with everything in his life. He carved out a little space in the side of the cave wall, with a bed and a couple of shulkers. Check his armor, his wings for durability. And then, the fun began.

He always started the same way. He’d creep into the ancient city, weaving around shriekers and temping chests, just taking in the peace and quiet. When bored of that, he’d stand up fully, grinning.

The rule is three strikes and you’re out. Well, a warden comes out of the ground anyway, intent on destroying any little noisemaker it can find. Or, as Impulse had learned, give chase. And oh, isn’t it fun to tear through a city with reckless abandon, knowing death is right behind you?

Who is stronger, the demon or the ancient abomination? Impulse wasn’t quite sure, wasn’t quite eager to find out. Didn’t want to lose, really. But running was enough. Smash-and-grab chests. Spawn ten wardens and run like hell. It was fun, it was exhilarating. Impulse liked to flirt with death, as long as he knew it was coming.

Tango called him an adrenaline junkie. Zedaph theorized that something in the totems of undying that made false-death so addictive. Perhaps it was both, maybe neither. But, regardless, it was really, really fun.

Reasons to love the fic: Natalie is so fascinating to me. She's involved but resistant. She clearly cares about Lydia so much and I love how much she cares about all of the kids and Scott specifically in this piece. I love how prepared Scott is- knowing exactly what he wants and what he needs to do- he just needs her to assist him with the details. She's fond, but concerned, but is not discouraging at all. This is such a good look at Natalie and Scott. Lovely.
