I reread domestic diplomacy for the umpteenth time and it’s just! So! Good! I love love love how from Dave’s perspective Gamzee is an absolutely fuckoff enormous clown monster who apparently stalked straight out of a horror movie and into Dave’s life as part of his alien boyfriend’s traditional alien polycule. I love how your Makaras are typically written as being on the absolute upper end of the troll height range, which it looks like is out beyond nearly all human outliers. It sort of sounds like the troll height distribution of your stories has a broader range in general than human heights? Or would you say that the average troll is taller than the average human, and the spread is comparable?

Hee, thank you very much! I think Dave definitely was feeling like a pretty cool dude who was totally chill about his boyfriend's weird alien stuff, but Karkat's a pretty entry-level alien as far as aliens go, lol. Turns out they also come in "7+ foot fish-goat-bug alien in clown paint" flavor.

RE: heights, I would say...hm. The average troll height is a little taller than the average human height, although the mode--sorry to break out math concepts haha--is about the same! Most trolls you meet are about normal human-sized. But I've had a long-time headcanon that trolls just continue to grow as long as they're alive, so very long-lived highbloods create dramatic outliers that bias the overall average upward! Average troll is over 6 feet is actually statistical error: Big Motherfucker Peixes, who has been growing for thousands of years and is the size of a truck, is an outlier adn should not have been counted haha

I will also say, on top of that, I think of my Tall Makaras as not even "the upper end of the range", but as outlying the range completely! Like, that at 15-20 sweeps, Gamzee is at the height that would be expected from a highblood several hundred sweeps his senior. And the GHB, at multiple hundreds of sweeps old, is bigger than literally anybody, and pretty much only matched by the Condesce, who's ridiculously old and has been growing the whole time like a lobster haha.

I find it very fun if all twelve of the main trolls we get in canon have like. Some form of mutation, or something outside of the norm about them--some of those are canon (Equius's strength, Nitram wings, Karkat's blood, Kanaya the rainbow drinker), and some of them are me having fun! And, y'know, making the Makaras big enough that even other trolls who are used to big highbloods see them and go (°ロ°)

sometimes i wanna talk about the issues i have with my body and as much as the body positivity movement definitely needs to skew more towards plus sized bodies there is still issues with being skinny , but the last time i ever did that , i was told i had no room to talk because my body had never been fat so i wasnt apart of the conversation

im only skinny because im underweight from an eating disorder . a childhood battle ive been fighting for as long as i can remember , because society doesnt even clsssify healthy sized bodies as healthy . i have so many health issues because of being so skinny . at the peak of my eating disorder , i rapidly lost 10lbs , and theres stretch marks / cellulite on my thighs and butt because of it . and stretch marks / cellulite are seen as ugly . which makes me feel worse about it even if i know that these things are normal for the human body . i cant hardly find clothes that fit properly because im too tall and thin for what my size should actually be , and instead of that being seen as an issue , its glamourized and fetishized as a " goal "

having anemia so bad that i have to take 3 different medications for it daily isnt a goal . not being healthy because i cant eat normally isnt a goal . my weak immune system , constant fatigue , and body temperature irregulations arent a goal . everyday of my life is complicated by the side effects of the unhealthy beauty standards of ( american ) society

yes , the body positivity movement should focus mostly on allowing plus sized people to feel comfortable in their bodies instead of being shamed and discriminated against . but please dont exclude skinny people from the discussion just because were small , because we need help sometimes too . we can be victims just as much as anyone else

#i feel like one of the most important aspects of being a creature on this earth in this universe is to possess the ability to feel as much #an animal/a part of nature as any other flower or tree or creature. i feel feeling like a small part of a larger whole is very important to #this process. i think this used to be a very common human experience - in vast forests #staring at uncountable stars existing as a part of a seemingly unending space. somehow somewhere along the way our big became too small. #maybe it was the development of large cities. but when our big becomes so small compared to what it used to be #we may see ourselves as far larger than we used to in comparison. i think what used to be reverence for the vast is now synonymous with #existential dread and i think that mindset has been one of the worst things to happen to us and by extension to this planet. #we need to feel small and insignificant and that is not at all a bad thing. we need to maintain a good perspective of our place in this #world. i wish this was encouraged. i wish it was seen as important to go stand at the foot of a mountain at night in the cold #stare at its height. stare at the stars. feel how easily the cold could end everything. i think that would do everyone wonders. #we just really arent seperate from others. #i want to force every capitalist to float in space untethered for like 2 hours in complete silence. #the acknowledgement of the scale of our existence should be a point of deep respect and awe and unity but it has been treated as something #to feel isolated about. its been deemed existentially unhealthy. this has done so so much harm for us.

#sasha answers #nablah #ask meme #ty! #obviously repetition just to draw out the run time is dumb. and one could easily make the argument that that's all da capo is anyway lol #but hey i like baroque. and i like ornaments. so. i give it a pass #this was a deliberate facet of scoring in 20th cen musical theater (and certainly influenced later broadway composition too) #that you make your music as catchy/memorable as possible so you can sell the soundtrack on records #which was often achieved not just with catchy melodies but with reprises everywhere #obv the bulk of opera was before recording was A Thing so the composition has a different purpose but #esp once you get to the turn of the 19th cen and the height of bel cantl i think that's definitely a related factor... #people wanted to buy piano arrangements etc of their fave arias to plunk out at home and in salons! #amateur publishing was taking off in a big way in the early 19th cen #anyway. compare smth like barbiere or nozze with late verdi...even after the da capo fell out of dominance the music i would argue #has a lot more Memorability and Catchiness (and repetition within an aria). and the Important Musical Moments are clearly distinguished #with plainer recits in between. makes the set piece numbers stand out that much more #vs a later romantic score which is more through composed...yes there are recurring motifs and in some cases they are even more prevalent #than recurring themes or unifying musical ideas of any kind in earlier works #but to my ear anyway they tend to. stick out less #maybe it's my modern ear being spoiled by film scores and the like but i've no pretentions that this is an objective rant lol #it's of course greatly influenced by my own taste. and i simply like baroque and classical more generally than romantic and modernist music #not to leave a serious musicological essay in the tags of a tongue in cheek post or anything lol
