New Releases: September 2022
New Releases: September 2022
This post is sponsored by me for the rerelease of Under the Lights Real Bad Things by Kelly J. Ford (1st) Beneath the roiling waters of the Arkansas River lie dead men and buried secrets. When Jane Mooney’s violent stepfather, Warren, disappeared, most folks in Maud Bottoms, Arkansas, assumed he got drunk and drowned. After all, the river had claimed its share over the years. When Jane confessed…

W A T C H E D
When the movie came out I was beyond putting in 24/7 care of my dad. Then that last year of his life was even more heavier care than that, if you can imagine.
Despite the kicking people give the sequel trilogy I was excited to see the final chapter of STAR WARS. But everything that happened I couldn't bring myself to watch it. I couldn't dedicate almost 3 hours to what would be a lot to take in. I'd have to watch it in 5 parts.
Then after my dad died. I was I shock. I'm not exactly not in shock now. But I let it go. Like some delusional idea that it was going to change anything. Irrational.
But i finally watched it. 4 years later. It was good to see it without social media and the news and friends and everyone picking it apart or analyzing the meaning or comparing and all that shit.
It was good story in my opinion. It wasn't a totally different movie to what Star Wars is. But it had all the markers that the old expanded universe Jedi vs Sith stories had. What the video games had. The Clone Wars.
But I enjoyed more than I would've with everyone breathing all over it in 2019-2020.

Ragtime: Play Review
Terrence Mcnally’s musical masterpiece “Ragtime” at theatreworks in Mountain View, based on adaptation of Doctorow’s incisive novel, is directed by Theatreworks’ founder, Robert Kelly with haunting music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens.  Doctorow’s sweeping semi-historical novel centers around the 1908 to 1913 time frame when the American dream was just taking shape; a time when…

Share your GOS2 bibliography with me
How crazy is it that season 2 has basically forced me to go back to university. I’ve done more reading and critical analysis and historical research than I have in years. I bite my thumb at you, Neil (affectionate).
And as I’m sure I’m not alone in this, I’d love to see your bibliography of all of the references or reading/watch lists. I’m sure to pick up a few good ones! I’ll go first.

Get to know me tag game
Tagged by @khaleesa who somehow knew I was stuck in a hotel room, bored out of my skull, and not about to watch the Superb Owl to pass the time.
rules: tag (8-10) people who you want to get to know better.
Relationship status: Perpetually and endlessly single. My last relationship ended two years ago, and I haven't even started dating again.
Favorite color: A very specific shade of blue
Three favorite foods: Really good fish & chips, tacos (again, they have to be good, and there's a lot of crap out there), a tuna melt from a restaurant that is now closed
Top 3 tv shows: whew, this is rough--I enjoy television very much. I'm sticking with the classics, though, and saying The Simpsons, Friday Night Lights, and Absolutely Fabulous.
Top 3 characters: Mary Lennox, Lisa Simpson, Wendy Moira Angela Darling (honorable mention to Stacey McGill, obviously)
What I’m currently reading: Real Bad Things by Kelly J. Ford, which was a Bookbub deal. It's fine! I read a lot, and the last great thing I read was The Immortalists.
Song stuck in my head:  Animal Crossing theme song, kind of. I'm not much for earworms.
Last movie watched: Clue because I can stream Amazon Prime in this hotel room and it was there.
Last thing I googled: directions to my meeting tomorrow
Last song I listened to was: A bunch of Fleetwood Mac because I was listening to a podcast about Fleetwood Mac because I am in my thirties.
Dream trip: A jaunt to the southern hemisphere to do Australia and New Zealand. I want to spend a month, at least.
Time: 7:45PM
Anything I really want right now: Validation.
Tagging: @pipergirl17 @pinkhoneydoodles-blog @bisexualchrissycunningham @hilarychuff @hangon-silvergirl @joansblondells @hellcheerocracy and anyone else who is avoiding the Superb Owl tonight.

TBR Bingo Finnish!
Tumblr media
It took more than the summer just because I was waiting on some holds, but here I stand, ready to enter the Month of Reading with a new Bingo card! If you want the full list of what I read, that is below the cut. I highly recommend just about every book on it.
My favorite new author surprised me.
Stephen Graham Jones is a Native Author and the book The Only Good Indians is a Native horror story. Now, I don't read horror, which is why this being my favorite surprised me. In fact, this was my first ever horror novel so I can't say how it compares to anyone else popular in the field. I can say that being a Native story it very much has that this is the horror WE would experience feel to it. By this I mean I doubt an author of any other background could capture this story as well. There was an emotional element to it that I can't really put a finger on. Just so well written. I'm going to read his other books when I can get my hands on them.
