Okay, hear me out about this weird, specific type of villain.
Fabulous, are moms/maternal figures albeit really bad ones, and while ruthless and self-centered, they're too funny/likable to kill off.

(Based on a discussion about an ATLA/Power Rangers crossover I had on Discord)
looks at @prying-pandora666
Aang: Hey, Azula. I'd hate to bother but...the Dragonzord doesn't look too okay. Azula: He's a giant mechanical dragon. What would he have to worry about? Katara: You're the Princess of the Fire Nation and the best firebender in the world. What would you have to worry about? Azula: ...(sighs) Alright. Point taken. [Azula finds the Dragonzord by itself in a valley] Azula: Hey big guy! You okay? [The Dragonzord looks at her like she's stupid] Azula: ...it's about Burai isn't it? [The Dragonzord looks a bit guilty upon the mentioning of his old ranger's name] Azula: Look...I don't know what to tell you, but Burai's dead. He's not going to come back, and it doesn't do you too good by sulking about it all the time. Everybody's got dead people after all. [Naturally, the Dragonzord gives an enraged roar about Azula making light of his grief.] Azula: Listen I...(sighs, sits down). I'm sorry. It's just, I'm no good at this. The other guys are close to their Zords, but I couldn't even treat my own friends well before they got wise and left. What hope would I have? [The Dragonzord calms down, feeling a bit ashamed about his loss of control] Azula: I do get it. You lose somebody close and everyone tries to tell you to get over it. That they're not gone and that you need to honor their memory. Then you feel the only way to do that is to throw yourself into danger to make their sacrifice worth it. Yeah...I've been there. [Azula thinks for a moment] Azula: ...his name was Lu Ten. We weren't close or anything, but...he was the only one who didn't see me as a monster...well, that's enough about me then. [The Dragonzord roars again, telling her that she shouldn't leave it there.] Azula: Alright! Geeze! I wasn't happy that Lu Ten's sacrifice was in vain and that he died trying to serve a country that didn't care for him! Is that what you want?! We both lost somebody and we were told to move on! [...] Azula: ...guess that's one thing we share in common I guess. [The Dragonzord nods in agreement.]
Sort of based on the original Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger where the Dragonzord (or Dragon Caesar in that series) mourned the death of his original ranger, Burai.

Happy 30th anniversary to Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers! Thirty years ago today, the Power Rangers franchise debuted in the United States and was an instant hit. The series was originally a Japanese one titled Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. All the footage of the Rangers in their armor, along with any shots of the Zords, battles (yep they used actual cardboard building props for those scenes), and villains is from the original Japanese series (any "monsters" received an English dub). The series was so popular here in the U.S. that Japan began showing it there - with subtitles! Yes, their original material was such a hit that the host country bought the rights to show it there!
Oh, and fun fact - ever notice how only the Pink Ranger has a skirt on her armor? That's because in the original Japanese version, there is only one girl Ranger - the pink one. The Yellow Ranger was a male in the original version, which is why there is no skirt with the armor.
Another fun fact - the Command Center? It's a real place! It's called House of the Book and is located on the American Jewish University's Brandeis-Bardin Campus in Simi Valley, California. So the exterior shots of the Command Center are of an actual building. How cool is that?!
To commemorate this milestone, I dug out some of my most valued possessions. I've had these three dolls since the series was still live on TV. They were literally made for girls, as depicted on their boxes (and only the girls were made, not the guys). These fashion dolls are about the size of a Skipper doll now, and each one came with her respective uniform and a blasting gun, as well as an extra set of clothes for school/everyday wear. All three girls were made - Kimberly, Trini, and Aisha. I was fortunate enough to get Trini before she was replaced by Aisha in the series. RIP to Trini's actress, Thuy Trang, who was sadly killed in a car accident in 2001. (And also RIP to our beloved Green/White Ranger, Jason David Frank, who died just last year).
So I dug the three of them out and got some photos. Kimberly and Trini will remain in their uniforms because it is very difficult to get those boots and gloves back on once they've been taken off. I opted to leave Aisha in her school clothes since there are two Yellow Rangers. Here they are in all their glory! Go, go, Power Rangers!
Kimberly & Trini:

Yes, the helmets are only hollow shells that cover the faces LOL. Hey, it was 1993! The details are still great, though! These days you'd probably get uniforms with the details stickered on...

In the Command Center, without helmets:

Death Battle Meme, Who will win the fight?, Dora Cockatrice from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger (1992) or Melisha Tweedy from Chicken Run Duology (2000-2023)?

New question! Favorite Ultraman Henshin devices, and why?
Oh that is an excellent question!
I really love the simple classics. Few gimmicks, few movements, and you're transformed.
My favorite henshin device across all of Tokusatsu is the Dino Buckler from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger:
Tumblr media
So, for Ultraman, honestly it has to be the Beta Capsule, but I'll say specifically the updated version from Shin Ultraman:
Tumblr media
I kind of have a soft spot for updated classics. :)

Academic Blog #9
Back to Tokusatsu, again, let's briefly interpret the design of heroes in the Super Sentai series (known in the U.S. as Power Rangers), focusing on three works that use dinosaurs - creatures that gained global popularity after the success of Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park  (1993) - as their main element.
The designs of Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, and Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger were from a realistic dinosaur perspective offers unique insights, blend the awe-inspiring majesty of ancient creatures with a modern, fantastical twist.
Tumblr media
Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger (1993)
Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger had the first attempt choosing dinosaurs as the reference of the design. It focuses on the wild and primal aspects of dinosaurs, drawing inspiration from their raw power and natural instincts. The designs here are more rugged and untamed, resonating with the untouchable, majestic essence of these creatures as rulers of their domain.
Tumblr media
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger (2003)
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, which is personally my favorite among the three, takes a slightly different approach, with designs that feel more mechanical, mirroring the machinery and robotics of our current era. This reflects a fusion of natural history and human innovation, suggesting a symbiotic relationship between the ancient past and technological advancement.
Tumblr media
Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger (2013)
In Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, the dinosaurs are interpreted with vibrant colors and exaggerated features, emphasizing their power and heroic nature. The design cleverly incorporates elements of the dinosaurs' known anatomical features but stylizes them for a more dynamic and engaging visual impact. This approach creates a bridge between the prehistoric and the futuristic, imagining how these creatures might have looked if they continued to evolve.
These series portray dinosaurs in a manner that balances realism with imagination, creating designs that are both respectful to the creatures' historical roots and appealing to modern aesthetics and storytelling.

It’s Morphin’ Time!
Who's psyched for the premiere of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Once & Always? ME!!!!!!! The series turns 30 this year, and Netflix is dropping a special today (April 19) in commemoration. Most of the original cast returns, and the trailer looks awesome! However, it won't be the same without Tommy, aka the Green Ranger (later the White Ranger). He will definitely be missed. :( There is a Green Ranger in the trailer, and the Yellow Ranger will be Trini's daughter, as the real Trini passed away in a car accident years ago. Kimberly won't be in the series either, but we do have her successor, Katherine. Same with Jason and Rocky. I don't know what the story is there, but regardless, this looks great!
Kenleigh is also ready, and she's showing off her collection of figures to celebrate! And her lightning nightgown as she watches the special to wind down. :D Fun fact: The Green Ranger's gold armor popped off when I accidentally dropped the figure, and I thought it was broken. Nope, there are tiny pegs in there, so the gold armor plate is meant to be removed and can be placed on any figure. Awesome! World's Smallest Toys are amazing!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers originally premiered in 1993, adapting stock footage from the Japanese TV series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. Following its premiere, the series became a cultural phenomenon, spawning a vast line of toys, action figures, and more, as well as a litany of spin-offs and films based on the series. The original series ran for a total of three seasons and 145 episodes before coming to an end in 1995.
