ok anyway headcanon time (aka me rambling about two characters who have never even interacted and arent even from the same show)

・Popcorn is such a physically affectionate person. Airy being the touch starved guy he is takes a bit to warm up to it, but once he does he loves it.

・completely convinced airy is Popcorn’s gf he went to peru with in episode 2 i am prepared to fight over this

・they rented a cute little air bnb and went to the beach and ate at restaurants and bought sunglasses and and and!!!!!

・popcorn is such a kleptomaniac😭

・like she steals from everything but mainly airy. There’s a whole space in her closet dedicated to random shit she took from him. Plants, clothes, spoons, etc

・oh yeah popcorn got airy a house in her universe too (though they eventually just sell it since airy spends so much time at her house he basically lives with popcorn)

・Maybe like after he died he messed with the radio right but got it wrong and got sent to showvember instead and now he just lives there

・Popcorn makes all the decisions. Where to go, what to do etc. Sure Airy does have a say in it and could just go do something else if he wanted to but he’s chill with it so 🤷🏻

・She will randomly just pick him up and carry him around everywhere even though he’s taller than her 😭

・Airy is like. Stupidly ticklish. And Popcorn finds it so funny

・she’ll just sneak up behind him and poke the little button on his back and he shrieks and jumps three feet in the air and popcorn just cracks up

・Besides physical affection, popcorn’s love language is gift giving. Though most of her gifts are just things she wanted and will steal back later 💀

Oh! The new Illari origin story is out! I personally dont like the whole last person angle they did imo. It feels very chosen one from the get go but what are your thoughts, Nite?

Like, I know I said that it's a good thing that they're bringing in a character that stands on their own and isn't too dependent on other characters' lore to sell themselves, but this is like... some straight up Themyscira shit. Like yes, it's within Overwatch's general world logic of 'Technology as indistinguishable from magic' but like... this kind of leans into a similar issue with Pharah as a character. Like... the weird lean into the 'ancientness' of Peru for aesthetics when Peru is like... still very much its own, modern country. People live there. They have like, social media and shit. They do have a modern culture. Like I mean you could argue that the Inti Warriors formed as a culture due to their isolation during the Omnic Crisis but it still feels off. I don't know. I've read a decent amount of afrofuturist sci-fi but I'm definitely under-read in indigenous sci-fi and I'm white and American, so I really can't speak definitively on this but honestly between this, the pan flute spray, and the pet llama named 'Chuño,' this character lowkey feels like a they jammed everything a 12 year old knows about Peru into a character.

What I do like about the character is that there does seem to be an effort to make a hero who feels like the hero of their own story, but that's also the problem where there's not enough for her to really connect with other heroes on, nor does she feel really tied into the whole omnic crisis lore of Overwatch overall.

Raphael, Mori, Pepper, and Joe are all POC, but they never seemed to be shown connecting/enjoying their cultural background?? There wasn't anything specifically cultural their characters seemed to be doing. I know these things might not be relevant to the story NP wants to tell but it isn't so hard to throw in a line about their heritage.

You could argue it wouldn't be her place or she wouldn't want to offend but she writes gay men.. And the women she DOES write, well we know.

I think the CLOSEST we EVER had to discussion of cultural identity is when Matsumoto tells Thaniel of his insecurities of being Japanese but living in England. He felt like he didn't belong in either world and literally I FELT THAT!!! But it was such a small scene and he hasn't brought it up again nor was there another scene like it with any other POC (correct me if im wrong but i dont think Pepper even HAD a thought like that)

First, the entirety of Bedlam takes place in Peru but nothing culturally significant stands out. I hate that Raphael, a literal symbol of the one thing his people revere the most, hates on his own people?? Merrick literally had to defend them 😭

Second, TLFOP legitmally takes place in Japan. It's a completely DIFFERENT PLACE THAN ENGLAND RIGHT? AND YET, idk, I feel Natasha tried to relate it too much to England?? There are traditions even Thaniel would need to follow when living in a place like Yoruji, a place one would expect a lot of rules to be upheld.

Third, a central part Joe's story IS IDENTITY, maybe not cultural but throughout the novel he didn't know who he really was. Natasha made him half-Chinese, therefore like any biracial person, his cultural identity lies in 3 communities -- his English side, his Chinese side, and his biracial self. The fact that she didn't even acknowledge those last two till the end is a bit disappointing. He lives with his Chinese father for goodness sakes and listen I adore the fact that he and his niece use "Ba" instead of Dad, but also I'm asking for more. Lunar's New Years hello???

I'll list characteristics of each of the south america countries because im SO TIRED of all latinos or latinas in media being mexican and all the same so let's start with this

Chile: If you're writing a chilean, please consider we learn to curse before we learn to walk (yeah im chilean, i know what im saying). Also we have no scruples when it comes to sensitive issues just say what you wanna say we don't care, the term slur doesnt exist in spanish go on bro say it. And other countries laugh at our STRONG accents because they're jealous, deal with it

Argentina: Well i'm not argentina but I know quite some so well. Consider that they also curse a lot but not much as chileans (cry, its true). They have an accent that won't go no matter how much time they live in another country and its incredible

Peru: They're one of the calmest countries, based on my experience. They're all like the mom friends lmao, and totally adorable. They also have a strong accent but not as much as argentinians. They don't curse too much. Other latinos bully them for their carboard skin color (DONT CANCEL ME PEOPLE IM JUST SAYING IT, I DO NOT SUPPORT IT)

Bolivia: I dont really know much, sorry. But I DO know other countries bully them because they dont have seas lmao

Venezuela: I'm just gonna say i haven't met an unnatractive venezuelan person in my whole life like tf dude they're all incredibly handsome or beautiful and AAAA. Consider that there are many venezuelan people who move to other countries for safety (there are many in chile for example.) Their accents are also adorable.

Colombia: The colombian accent is a bit like the venezuelan one, but if you know it, you can tell the difference. They have a similar skin color to the Peru one, but there is also a high quantity of black people in colombia. They have arepas and they're great in general.

Paraguay: We all bully them saying they dont exist lmaooo. The one paraguayan person i know is like so goddamn great like they're so awesome but idk if all people there are like that tho. I hope so

Youre right, spicy is very prominent in Peruvian food and Mexican food afaik (if youre Latino and your country too add on cus im talking off the top of my memory) but not in Colombian food. I mean we have a spicy sauce and dip that people add to lots of things (potatoes, soup, empanadas) but its just not comparable to the stuff in Mexico/Peru.

I have a Colombian friend who lives in Mexico rn and its been very entertaining to talk to her about the process of becoming immune to the food LOL I have never tried takis actually they dont sell them in Colombia and hubby said he hated em so I have no opinion on that but I have fanned myself like that before so i get it fully I'm a pussy when it comes to spicy food

Continuing to erase other cultures, countries and stories by labeling the U.S
