alright, so, i'm not normally a news blog but i'll try to share at least some stuff because it's relevant to hesokuri wars:
hesokuri wars is shutting down!
yep, the app that's been going for 6 years strong is finally shutting down. the staff made 4 tweets about it which you can find here (one, two, three, four), but basically they say,
"hesokuri wars is shutting down and a new game is being made. the game will shut down on October 2nd, 2022 at 15:00 (JST). thank you for playing the game. we're renewing all the previous events and adding new event(s?) for the ending of the game. the new game will be called "osomatsu-san's main battle poko ball"* and will be made this winter. tweets about it will come from this same account."
*the title is just what DeepL gave me

**the points atsume refers to the events where you collect a bunch of points in exchange for power ups and etc. i'm not sure why this is one of the "events" they decided to revive?

As I said anime
Also maybe some slight spoilers for the two anime I'm about to talk about sorry
So
I finally got round to watching sailor moon
I mean I did star it like errrr half a year ago but I only watched 5 episodes cos I wasn't in an anime nor a magical girl phase, but now I am and here we are on episode 20
Okay first things first it's, so far, a 7/10. It's aged pretty damn well all things considered and I'm having a lot of fun with it and my brains gone "wouldn't it be fun to draw your dnd party in sailor moon style"
I listened to my brain idk why. I'm like decent at drawing but this is errr a bit too far above my skill and attention span level but here we are. Illve literally set everything up now so woo
Anyway getting back on track
So I started watching cardcaptor sakura back in errrrr Fuck 2020, damn it's been a while. Anyway I chose that one over sailor moon initially because my friend, who really gets my tastes and raised me to be the big anime fan I am, preferred this one so I thought "hell why not it's shorter than sailor moon"
These too massive influences on the magical girl genre as a whole are really interesting to compare and contrast to another. Sailor moon, being the bigger phenomenon that it was obviously had a bigger influence on the genre as a whole than cardcaptor but you can ignore what sakura put into the genre
And so like you'd ask "well skelly which do you prefer"
Both do things that I really like and don't like
Pros of cardcaptor sakura:
• her power scaling compatency is really well highlighted by collecting the crow card
• the crow cards are useful from the minute she collects them and I really enjoy seeing her use them in different
• the fact that her magical girl outfit is different each episode and are made by her friend (they're related but I don't know the name of the relationship cos it's her mother's cousins daughter)
• the fact that clamp are insane JoJo fans (okay but like legit tho it's one of the reasons I started watching cardcaptor cos cos cos JoJo part 3)
• her and her magical rival both having a crush on her brother's best friendisy adorable (they're like 12 while the brother (16) 's friend is 15 and obviously is just being nice to his friends family and family friends) [I know the end results if the relationships so it's fine]
• it's does a really good job of balancing one magical girl
Pros I'd sailor moon:
• usagi feels 14. Like she feels like a 14 year old in the 90s. Shes the most a magical girl protagonist has felt their age
• the astetic if sailor moon is just too notch
• most of the filler episodes feel good and not wasted time
• well passed and not excessive magical girl transformations
• villains (these don't exist in cardcaptor per say)
• the author is married to the author of Hunter X Hunter and they couldn't be more night and day in terms of style
• the three sailor soldiers (so far) balance out really well with each other
• their powers don't all just do damage. Mercury has a mist bomb essentially. Mars has a fire gun that damages and sailor moon has seems to bind/trap/ kill the opponent which is really cool
However, there are certain things that each one does that I'm just like whyyyyyy. Since sailor moons 'offences' are ones that are mainly yet to come and could turn out to be okay I'll start there first
Cons of sailor moon:
• chibi moon. This child hasn't and won't turn up till episode 14 of season 2 but I already don't like her. I don't like child characters with powers in magical girl anime let alone considering her relationship to the other characters. They might do her well but I'm very much expecting her to be my least favourite
• usagi is 14 and tuxedo mask is 18 when they first meet. Granted usagi is the only one who has feelings for the other perosna at the minute but since I'm like 99% sure of where this relationship goes it's so weird in heinseight
• (okay this is the weirdest one but) so far... It's had the straightest vibes. Know I know what your thinking "But but it's so gay" and I know I'm desperate to see Neptune and Uranus (totally not mad that they get introduced after chibi moon but what ever) and that the filler has some good shopping potential but like both mars and usagi are so man hungry at the moment. Granted usagi did describe mars in a very sapphic way when they first met all with a blush on her face which I definitely appreciated but since then they're just both been fighting over tuxedo mask and other men. Mercury is my saving grace cos at the minute she just don't care, giving real ace aro vibes which I like
Cardcaptor sakura cons:
• I only really have one of these so far
• and it's a doozy
• technically it's two/three but it all falls under the same issue
• student teacher relationships. Sakuras mother was 16 when she met her husband to be... Who was her teacher.... This broke me when I first found this out. And this isn't great. Entirely not aged well. However is the show had played this off as normal maybe I could let it go. Oh what's that. Sakuras mother's family fucking hate the dad's guts for it. Oh oh so your telling me they tried to so everything in their power to get her to not marry him and they did it anyway and it's shown as a whole love conquers all thing. Okay errr let me just throw up for a bit. Oh oh oh what's this there's a new female teach. Mmh okay sakuras smitten but Li gets uncomfortable around her. Oh sakuras brother knows her. She was previously his teacher. He's also having a wired reaction to her being back. Eh what's this HIS WEIRD REACTION IS COS THEY USE TO DATE WHILE AHE WAS HIS TEACHER WHEN HE WAS 14 AND HIS FATHER WAS OKAY WITH THIS AND HE DOSNT LIKE HER COS SHE BROKE IS HEART NOT THAT YOU KNWO THIS IS A FULLY GROWN ADULT DATING YOUR 14 YEAR OLD SON OH WHAT YOU WOULD CARE COS YOU DID THE SAME THING.
• there's another relationship that's like this but that I ky exists in the manga so imma ignore it cos I don't think I can take much more if it... This time the child is 12... I think this show wants to kill me
• after I found this out it's taken me ages to pick up the show again and whenever I do I just can't shake the uncomfortable feeling
So yea
Both shows have their ups and downs to say the least
And I can't really form a verdic till I finish cardcaptor sakura, clear card, and all of sailor moon
Bruh I finally remembered the point of this post

Black Tom Cassidy Fan-Made Kit by Summoner Settimo
Bio - While he was always the black sheep of his prominent Irish family, Tom Cassidy’s decent to villainy began when the X-Man Banshee, his cousin Sean Cassidy, whom he has already lost his fortune, estate, and love interest to, lashed out at Tom with his sonic scream upon finding out his wife had died. As a result of these slights against him, Tom swore to make Banshee pay, even concealing his cousin’s own daughter, raising her himself instead to become the villain Siryn. Soon after turning to a life of crime, he would befriend and team up with the Juggernaut, and the two of them, as well as the occasional addition of Siryn, would often prove themselves more than capable of opposing the likes of the X-Men. After one of their battles with the X-Men ended poorly, with Tom being shot by Cable, wood-like implants were grafted to his body with the aid of Deadpool’s cells in order to save his life. This process awakened Tom’s secondary mutation, granting him the power to control plant life. However, these new powers would ultimately lead him to madness, and would tear apart the only true friendship he had ever known in Juggernaut. ————————————————————— Class - Mutant ————————————————————— Tags - #Villain, #HellfireClub, #BrotherhoodOfEvilMutants, #Defensive:Guard, #Offensive:Burst, #Wood, #Size:M ————————————————————— Signature Ability - “Splintering Defense” - If Black Tom Cassidy performs a Parry or a Perfect Block against any contact attack, his opponent has a 35-90% chance to gain a Splinter Buff, based on his Signature Level. Splinter Buffs last indefinitely and can stack without limit, but have no effect unless Black Tom Cassidy strikes his opponent with a Heavy Attack, which then Nullifies all Splinter Buffs and detonates them each for a burst of Direct Energy Damage. Parrying or Perfectly Blocking non-contact attacks can never inflict Splinter Buffs. Bleed Immune champions cannot gain Splinter Buffs. ————————————————————— Abilities, Attacks & Animations - Unique Passive Ability - “Chlorokinesis” - A secondary mutation grants Black Tom Cassidy limited control over plant-life. All plant-based champions (Groot, King Groot, Man-Thing) suffer a Passive 50% Ability Accuracy Reduction. Additionally, all champions reliant on #Wood in their arsenal (Massacre, Night Thrasher, Doctor Voodoo, Mordo, Mole Man, Elsa Bloodstone) suffer a Passive 20% Ability Accuracy Reduction. Despite having the #Wood tag, Black Tom Cassidy is himself Immune to Chlorokinesis, and if fighting another copy of himself will be unaffected by the Ability Accuracy Reduction. Unique Ability - “Wooden Implants” - Throughout a quest, Black Tom Cassidy’s Wooden Implants grow over most of the damage he has sustained in previous battles. Black Tom Cassidy is granted full Immunity to Open Wound Debuffs. Black Tom Cassidy gains a Permanent Passive 1% Resistance to Bleed Damage scaling up with his Missing Heath at the start of each fight, up to a maximum of 99% Bleed Resistance. Bleed Resistance does not vary during the fight as Health is lost or gained. The percentage value of the Bleed Resistance is determined at the start of each fight, and it’s value remains constant throughout each fight. Basic Attacks & Animations - Black Tom Cassidy uses an ancient Celtic wooden club called a Shillelagh both as a weapon to bludgeon his opponent and as a focus for his primary mutation which allows him to generate and project Bio-Organic Thermokinetic Energy through wood. Utilizing both his Wooden Implants and his Shillelagh, Black Tom Cassidy is able to convert a fraction of all of his Basic Attacks to bursts of Energy Damage, granting him utility against opponents with High Physical Resistance and Armor Ratings, as well as mechanics that Reflect Attack Damage like Reverberation and Rock Shield. Up to 40% of this Energy Damage penetrates the opponent’s Block. Basic Attacks - Only 80% of the damage from Light Attacks is dealt as Physical Damage, the other 20% of this attack is dealt in Energy Damage. Only 60% of the damage from Medium Attacks is dealt as Physical Damage, the other 40% of this attack is dealt in Energy Damage. Heavy Attacks - Black Tom Cassidy charges up his Shillelagh with energy and uses it to deal a devastating upward strike to his opponent. Copies Moon Knight’s Heavy Attack animation. Only 20% of the damage from Heavy Attacks is dealt as Physical Damage, the other 80% of this attack is dealt in Energy Damage. This is the only attack Black Tom Cassidy can use to Nullify Splinter Buffs. When Nullified, each Splinter Buff instantly deals an additional burst of Direct Energy Damage, equal to 35% of Black Tom Cassidy’s Base Attack. Blocking - Black Tom Cassidy makes use of Wooden Implants that have been grafted to his skin while he is Blocking attacks - instantly growing a dense wooden shield on his forearm whenever holding his block. Black Tom Cassidy Passively raises his Physical Resistance by 1000 while holding his Block. If Black Tom Cassidy is suffering from an Incinerate, Coldsnap, Frostbite, or Plasma Debuff or Effect, he can not raise his Physical Resistance while holding his Block. Special 1 - “Krakoa Security” - Black Tom Cassidy plunges his hands into the earth and uses his mutant powers to command a series of roots to violently erupt from the ground in a burst of energy, knocking the opponent off their feet. This attack has a Passive True Accuracy Effect, ignoring the opponent’s Passive Evasion and Auto-Block abilities, for the attack’s duration. While Environmental Symbiosis is Active, this attack becomes Unblockable. Special 2 - “Bio-Organic Thermokinetic Blast” - Black Tom Cassidy fires a powerful beam of Bio-Organic Thermokinetic Energy through his Shillelagh at the opponent. This attack inflicts an Incinerate Debuff on the opponent, dealing 40% of Black Tom Cassidy’s Attack as Direct Energy Damage over a 4 second duration. The Potency of this Incinerate Debuff is Passively increased by 5% for every Buff Active on the opponent, up to a maximum increase of 100%. Incinerate Debuffs also remove the opponent’s Perfect Block Chance and reduces their Block Proficiency by 50%. Special 3 - “Environmental Symbiosis” - Black Tom Cassidy entraps his opponent in a tangled mess of roots. As his opponent tries to free themselves, he walks up to them and slams his Shillelagh down into the ground, charging up all of the surrounding earth and roots with energy before lifting the overcharged Shillelagh and striking a devastating blow to the opponent which sends them flying to the edge of the arena. This attack has a 100% chance to generate 3 Splinter Buffs on the opponent. This attack generates a Passive Environmental Symbiosis Buff for 15 seconds. While Environmental Symbiosis is Active, the opponent has a 15% chance to gain 1 Splinter Buff while dashing forwards or backwards, a 60% chance to gain 1 Splinter Buff each time a successful hit pushes them against the edge of the arena, and a 100% chance to gain 2 Splinter Buffs each time they are Knocked Down. While Environmental Symbiosis is Active, Black Tom Cassidy Instantly Regenerates 1% of his Missing Health for every Splinter Buff he Nullifies with his Heavy Attack, up to a maximum of 75% of his Missing Heath Regenerated. Bleed Immune champions cannot gain Splinter Buffs. ————————————————————— Synergies - “Plant-based” - (Groot & King Groot & Man-Thing & Black Tom Cassidy) Groot & King Groot - Gain a Steady Release Buff for the duration of the fight. With the Steady Release Buff, up to 40% of Basic Attack Damage is replaced with bursts of Energy Damage that bypass Armor and Physical Resistance as well as mechanics that Reflect Attack Damage like Reverberation and Rock Shield. Up to 30% of this Energy Damage penetrates the opponent’s Block. Man-Thing - Gain a minor Steady Release Buff for the duration of the fight. Because Man-Thing is made of swamp mush and vines as opposed to wood, the effectiveness of Steady Release is greatly reduced. With the Steady Release Buff, up to 20% of Basic Attack Damage is replaced with bursts of Energy Damage that bypass Armor and Physical Resistance as well as mechanics that Reflect Attack Damage like Reverberation and Rock Shield. Up to 25% of this Energy Damage penetrates the opponent’s Block. Black Tom Cassidy - For each member of this Synergy present, Cassidy gains a Passive 20% Increase to his Base Energy Resistance Rating while Blocking. “Partners in Crime” - (Juggernaut & Black Tom Cassidy) Juggernaut - If the opponent strikes Juggernaut with a contact attack while he is Unstoppable, they are inflicted with an Injury Debuff lasting for 10 seconds. While the opponent is Injured, all of Juggernaut’s attacks bypass 100% of the opponent’s Physical Resistance. This Injury Debuff does not stack. Black Tom Cassidy - Increases Black Tom Cassidy’s Perfect Block Rating by 5%. Additionally, Black Tom Cassidy gains the ability to successfully Block all incoming Unblockable Attacks. “Revenge for Squid-Boy” - (Juggernaut) Juggernaut - While in the presence of Squid-Boy’s murderer, Juggernaut gains a Permanent Passive Rage Buff, raising both his Attack and Power Gain Rate by 10%. “Nefarious Nobility” - (Diablo & Black Tom Cassidy) Diablo & Black Tom Cassidy - Basic Attacks deal 10% more damage while the opponent has more power. “Enemies” - (Cable & Deadpool [X-Force] & Black Tom Cassidy) All Champions - All Champions gain +155 Critical Rating.

Note
If I could give slightly less popular Villainess recs, though more manga then webtoon. Recently I've been enjoying "Villainess Level 99 ~I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord~" and "The Villainous Daughter’s Butler - I Raised Her to Be Very Cute"
Less villainy and more slice of life, "There's No Such Thing as a Villainess Route? Not in My Book!" and (wlw) "I Favor the Villainess" are also quite good
"I I'll Become a Villainess That Will Go Down in History" is just starting (tl active but only to ch8) but seems quite good
oh my god I lve villainess level 99. so true.
I didn't really care for I Favour The Villainess because it's like the Depraved Sexual Assault Lesbian trope but a twist! she has genuine feelings towards her crush. Like um. No thanks.

I have a Teen Titans AU. In it, Nath is Robin, Rose is Starfire, Kim is Beast Boy, Max is Cyborg, and Juleka is Raven. Got any headcanons?
Nathaniel The Boy Wonder
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sidekick to the greatest detective duo ever known... Beetle Woman and Catman
Prior to that, he was raised by a famous artist duo and inherited their skills
During an unveiling for a mural his parents painted, a gangster attacked the event and killed both of his parents
Beetle Woman and Catman investigated the crime, and as their alter egos, billionaires Marinette Dupain-Cheng-Agreste and Adrien Agreste, adopted Nathaniel, brought the mobster to justice, and made him their sidekick
He’s trained in several forms of martial arts, intimidation, acrobatics, and he’s an amazing detective
People call him Illustrator because he uses spray paints in his fights
Wears a hood since his red hair gives him away sometimes. His costume is similar to Robin’s but with a purple, black, and white color scheme
Always spray paints his signature on villains’ clothes whenever he’s done beating them up
There was one villain he could never catch and beats himself up for it every time. His name is Reverser. He’s a powerful sorcerer who can reverse anyone’s personality and bring heroes over to his side
Illustrator doesn’t know how how he does it. One minute, he’s fighting Reverser, the next, he blacks out and wakes up with black and white lipstick all over his face and neck. It’s so weird
And Beetle Woman, Catman, the servants, Tikki and Plagg, are always giggling and whispering whenever he talks about Reverser
One day when the detective duo decided he was old enough, Nathaniel was able to start his own team of heroes to protect a neighboring city
After a run-in with a blonde alien, a short cyborg, a jock who could turn into any animal on earth, and a goth witch, he persuaded them into forming a superhero group called the Teen Titans
Rose The Alien Princess
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The alien princess from the distant planet of Fragrencia
Her powers are similar to Starfire’s, only the beams are a bright pink and she can control villains by shooting a pink mist from her hands
She has two siblings- A younger brother named Clover, and an evil older sister named Ivy
Clover was sent away in an escape pod after an attack on Fragrencia. Rose was crushed, but Ivy was thrilled
Ivy sold her into slavery to another alían race in order to bring peace to their war-torn planet. (Really it was just to get rid of her)
She landed on earth after using her superhuman strength to escape from an alien ship
While attempting to remove the handcuffs, she ended up destroying parts of the town and eventually ran into four teenagers whom she would soon fight crime with
The mysterious goth girl wearing the cloak was the one who talked her down and removed her handcuffs... Right before Rose kissed her so she could communicate with her
Rose is the most emotional of the team since her powers are strengthened by her emotions
She has a huge crush on Juleka but is a little intimidated by her to act on her feelings
It isn’t rare to see the two girls meditating together or sleeping in the same room in the same bed
Her favorite of Kim’s animal forms is a kitten and she can never resist his dough eyes
Kim The Animal Morpher
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Superhero name: “Teen Beast”
A former member of the Xuppu Squad
He was raised by his geneticist parents and was always traveling the world with them. But he was never really interested in the stuff; he wanted to be a swimmer
One day, while they were exploring a jungle, young Kim was bitten by a rare green monkey and caught a serious illness
To save him, his parents gave him a serum with odd side effects- His skin, hair, and eyes turned different shades of red
After a boating accident his parents died after falling over a waterfall, but thanks to his swim training, he was able to make it out
Later, he sought out a superhero team called the Xuppu Squad and became their youngest member
Feeling alienated due to one of the more harsher members, he left and found himself in a new town
There, he met four other teens and assisted them in liberating an alien Princess
He’s become close friends with Max and often assists him with his projects
The others often tease him about it, but he doesn’t know why
Soon, he fell in love with Chloé Bourgeois, the former princess of Markovia who had the bower to render people immobile
He falls out of love with her after he betrayed him and his team by joining Hawkmoth, and he soon realizes that he has feelings for Max after he risks his own life to save him
His two favorite forms are the monkey and miniature horse. As a monkey, he’s able to pick things up with his feet, and because a horse is Max’s favorite animal
Max The Cyborg
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Max Kanté was at the top of his class, had a bright future ahead of him and several academic scholarships... Until the accident
He was on a train that his mother was conducting when there was a crash that kill her and horribly injured him
The injury was so awful that his father replaced 99% of his body with cybernetics to keep him alive. This caused him to be shunned by everyone in his life, so he ran away
One night, he went for a walk out in a hoodie when he ran into a group of teenagers fighting a rather violent alien princess
He teamed up with them to fight the princess’ captors and together, they formed a team to battle villainy
He constructed their base of operations and its systems from a landing ship from the aliens sent to take Rose
He serves as the chief technician and constructs all of their gadgets and vehicles... With some help from a certain muscular boy
He has a... Slight, tiny, barely even noticeable crush on Kim and was heartbroken to find out he liked Chloé.
Max is a little self-conscious about being 99% cyborg, so Kim will often comfort him when he’s having one of “Those days”
After saving Kim’s life when Chloé betrayed them and almost risking his own, the two started dating
Juleka The Half Demon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daughter of Anarka, Juleka was chosen to be the daughter of the demon known as Jagged, and succeed him with her new brother, Luka
Anarka was soon taken in by the pacifistic disciples of the Temple of Reflekta, a group from another plane of existence who forsaked life on Earth
In their world, Anarka gave birth to Juleka, who, like Jagged and Luka was born with the ends of her hair a different color
Fearing she would bring about evil, a magistrate tried to cast her into limbo, only to be destroyed himself
A spiritual leader named Roaar took Juleka under her wing and taught her how to submerge her emotions to ward off her father and brothers’ influences while perfecting her powers
After her teacher’s death, she had a dream where Jagged died and Luka took his place.
He explained that when she reached the age of sixteen, he would come for her and make her his ally so they could destroy the earth together as brother and sister
(He’s also really overprotective of her and went ballistic when she started fighting villains)
Fearing this, Juleka fled to earth where she ran into three teenagers fighting off a rather cute alien princess
Seeing her reason for rampaging, Juleka was able to remove her handcuffs without any trouble, and nearly died on the spot when she princess kissed her
Despite her insecurities, the other invited her to join their new superhero group
Juleka is terrified her own emotions, worried that if she feels something so strongly, that she’ll end up like her brother
As much as it pains her to do so, she distances herself away from Rose emotionally
Eventually, she’s able to express her love for Rose, just at a more muted level, and the two soon start dating
Her powers include teleportation, flight, astral projection, and she can make clones of herself

MANGA REC LIST
I’ve been meaning to update this for a while, and I finally got around to it!
if you’re looking for some new manga to read, here’s my rec list below:
----
These are all varying levels of good- some are AMAZING and some are just a fun read.
For the most part I tried not to include REALLY popular series (like yeah: One Punch Man and Detective Conan and One Piece and whatever are good! but also you’ve probably already read them!)
Also, the categories are just for the sake of organization- take them with a grain of salt. Most of the series are comedy, even those not in the comedy section.
Bonus: here’s a post with more detailed descriptions for 10 of these series, including an example page from each.
and you can also check my manga recs tag I guess
----

Jumbled Thoughts: High Society Characters Featuring The Blights From The Owl House
The elite. The privileged. The powerful. Those who seem untouchable and look down upon others because they think it is their right, whether this be because of birthright, reputation, wealth, or all of the above. These figures that seem so much larger than everyone else... but are still human. Still characters, just with a dimension to them that is specific to their stature and their unique perspectives from on high. There’s a lot of different ways to write high society characters and a lot of general pitfalls with these characters. Fortunately, we have a whole family of five to help us both examine different archtypes amongst these characters, pitfalls with each, and considerations that can be made based off of both what they do and, more importantly, ESPECIALLY for high society characters, what they don’t. There will be spoilers and this is your warning now.
We’ll start with the characters we know the least about from the show: Alador and Odalia Blight. They are the parents to three children and are closer to what people would consider the stereotypical high society character. The token or straw man version of them. They’re severe, they care about legacy, and are brutal about that legacy. They appear evil to most people, especially in forcing their daughter to abandon a friend they perceive as unworthy of spending time with their family so she may befriend the friends they ‘approve’ of, or are simply convenient because they are available by being children of people they work with.
This is pretty common for antagonistic high society characters as, from 99% of the population’s view, these actions are abusive, evil, and reprehensible. And... they are... to some extent. These characters, ideally, show a high level of pragmatism. They have obvious goals, obvious priorities, often to do with appearance, status, strength, etc. that go hand in hand with keeping their position of power and are often ruthless in achieving these goals. They were raised in a way to perceive weakness as humiliating and needing help as failure. This actually makes this a good archtype too as parents to a high society character seeking redemption because your plucky hero (or heroine) can teach them that friends are in fact important and that clear strength isn’t all there is. But these strereotypical characters are often too far gone to see that as anything other than repulsive.
...WHY!? This is the pitfall of these characters and making them exceedingly token. One note. Boring. If all they do is crush happiness, you lose the concept of them doing this to protect their legacy and devolve into them being cackling, mustache twirling villains which really sucks because these character’s pragmatism is their greatest strength. That weird person who is one of a kind in the world and has a special power? A bad author may immediately have these high society twats reject them. A good author may have these characters consider long term plans with them. If their unique qualities can take them somewhere, perhaps that’s a useful asset. If they can claim to have fostered, or at least befriended, this unique talent then that is an accomplishment that their family will have above all others. That will increase the prestige of their name. And that is the unique twist on these characters to keep in mind. They think on a macro scale. A scale that encompasses all levels of society and how to at all times turn things into opportunities in their favor. At least, if you want to sell the idea that there’s a reason they were able to become and stay members of high society rather than just being privileged assholes.
Speaking of, second type with the second and third best known characters: Emira and Edric as the privileged assholes! These characters make for great minor antagonists and bullies and that’s a lot of what we at least hear of these two twins. They skip class, they pull pranks, they break into places they aren’t supposed to, and they seek retribution upon those who try to ruin their fun. This even went as far as trying to ruin their little sister’s life by publishing her diary at one point. These characters are hedonistic, selfish, and entirely out for their personal enjoyment, all of which they can pursue relentlessly because they know their status gives them immunity to the consequences that society would wish to place on them.
So, the pitfall? Well, the first comes in the form of motivation. Why are they like this? It’s easy to just make them spoiled but was that the whole point to it? These characters benefit the most from their parental figures actually in general, rather than just themselves. After all, their desires override any sort of pain, anger, etc. that may lead them to the escapism. I’ll come back to these two more though when I start talking about the entire context of the family but these two are treated so drastically different from their sister, and their temperament so against what is ‘proper’ for high society that it has very interesting ramifications to the dynamics of the family, at least if you want them to be there.
But, we have one last member. A main supporting character of the show and the archtype of the next generation/redeemable high society character: Amity Blight. She has straight hair, straight As, moves straight towards her goals, and is in all ways Little Miss Perfect at the beginning of the show.
Check this out if you don’t get the reference. It’s a very good song.
She is inherently a good person, but instead holds the weight of her name on her shoulders. She knows what a Blight is supposed to look like, act like, and what they’re supposed to aim for as the best of the best. She knows what that takes, she knows how hard she needs to work, and she does everything right. Which also means that when things go wrong, she snaps like a twig because she is so ready to explode from all of the doubts in her mind about whether or not she can do this.
And all of this is pretty stock for the high society character you want to have the flavor of this trait, but also to make likable. This actually isn’t even a dig at the show. They’re simply the most obviously relatable traits that can make a viewer like a character so far removed from their reality. They want them to be free of the pressure. Allowed to be the person they are/want to be rather than the one that they obviously are being made to be.
Aaaand *drops you in a hole* DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM!? This is one that’s probably the easiest to overlook as a problem but it’s entirely a matter of whether or not you get rid of the flavor of who they used to be in redemption. This is admittedly a problem with any character who is redeemed but it should never feel like this character, who used to be so focused on one goal because of their heritage, has given up on those goals or simply wears fancier clothes than everyone else because their parents have money. You started from this deep base of pressure that was likely enforced for years and that’s not something that simply vanishes from a pretty pair of brown eyes. Of course, depending on the amount of time you can spend on this or the tone you’re going for, abandoning some of these elements is also fine. After all, Amity is a part of the main supporting cast, but still not the main character and maybe in half of the episodes in the first season, if not less, and for most of those she likely gets less than five minutes of screentime. There’s only so much character development you can do with that so if you want to expedite some of the uglier parts of a character like her’s arc to get them where they can properly be working with the good guys, that’s entirely fine.
In other words, this is your reminder that not all things that may appear as problems are all of the time. It all depends on execution and what is important to your story. After all, if you need token characters for a one time excursion into high society, the first archtype makes for great main foes for your heroes to face, the second work well as either nuisances or unlikely assistants, and the last one can quickly be made into a fast ally to take with you, especially if you make it that they want to be more like the second archtype and so want out from under the pressure they’re under. If that’s something that needs to happen within 20k words or three episodes, etc. then GO FOR IT. Do not feel bad if you have to make them less than the deepest characters because if they always had to be, these archtypes wouldn’t exist as they do.
Last section: What these archtypes say in tandem. Or, in other words, what’s not being said? Let’s review real quick. This will feature the heaviest spoilers, especially for Amity, so there’s your warning. Also, I have my own conclusions and suggestions on where to take the questions I plan to present but that’s not the point of this blog. It’s to get you to start considering these characters and archtypes from different angles than simply ‘High Society = Bad.’ If you want to see me talk more about those conclusions and my reasoning though, let me know.
Odalia and Alador Blight are severe enough to tell their daughter that she cannot be friends with someone who is too weak to associate with Blights. They also fairly obviously are a large part of where Amity’s pressure comes from since that scene is one of the few where we see an outside influence on Amity’s perception of these things.
Emira and Edric are bullies to their sister, jokesters, lazy, blatantly break the rules, and in general are characters who at best know how to behave as members of high society but in general do not act like high society members. That is a stark contrast to how severe their parents treat something like simply a weak friend, isn’t it? Especially since these two are the OLDER siblings, by a few years even from what we can tell. What happened there? Why are they given this level of freedom? How are they able to so freely ignore the pressure when it’s obvious that Amity has been given reasons to think that failing to measure up will lead to some level of consequences?
Amity by the end of the first season has become friends again with the friend that she was told to tell to never associate with, hangs out with a complete weirdo human who can barely cast magic, and has gone from constantly being serious and severe to being amicable and flustered much of the time. There are still elements of her severity admittedly, but they’re targeted more at the things she once thought were all important like her old friends. HOW!? I talked about how it’s acceptable to skip the uglier parts of a redemption arc, and I don’t have any real issue with how they did it, but if you want to expand on a character like this, you need to answer where the pressure goes to let them make such a drastic change in personality when originally they seemed to be crushed under the weight of their responsibilities. A smile doesn’t get rid of years of worry and a distant dream of success, especially if your parents are pushing you harder and harder to be like them. To be pragmatic. To do everything you can to succeed, no matter who you hurt. To find retribution for even simply perceived slights, let alone actual wrongs done to you.
And you may notice that a lot of these questions swing back to Alador and Odalia. As the last generation of High Society members, it was their responsibility to make sure these lessons would stick. What do their children’s behavior say about their behavior? Are they simply absentee now? Did they relax? Do they not know?
In other words: What are their relationships? What is their CHARACTER? Most people may not actually understand that level of society as we have to sit on the ground instead of from gilded thrones, but we cannot forget that these are still people with motivations, flaws, and goals and reasons for how they behave. If you do that, all you have is a fancy chess piece that fits in its place but will never be more interesting than a predictable game of chess between two masters.
Thank you, I hope I’ve given you something to think about, let me know what other topics, concepts, etc. you may want me to talk about, follow for whatever I may have next, and have a wonderful rest of your day.

If you could rank all of the classic Powerpuff Girls episodes, which episode would be your #1?
I guess I don’t need to ask what is your least favorite episode.
Oooh, that’s a tough one…I love “The PowerPuff Girls Best Rainy Day Adventure,” but so many people have analyzed that one already.
As far as villain centrics from the classic PPG cartoon go, I’d have to say my #1 favorite is Mojo’s centric episode where he teams up begrudgingly with the PowerPuff Girls in “Forced Kin.” I love how Mojo and the girls have this weird sort of low-key love/hate sibling rivalry going on, though it’s mostly one-sided because Mojo usually is trying to kill them or use him for his own evil scheme, and rarely actually shows the girls any sort of outward genuine affection, except for briefly in the PowerPuff Girls: Rule The World when he got to rule the world and stopped being evil for a bit until he got bored.
Still, it was was genuinely surprising to me that Mojo actually briefly agreed to be the girls butt monkey/fall guy for a bit in the S3 episode “Candy Is Dandy” when they got addicted to being rewarded candy by the Mayor, and actually stuck to his deal to beat up/get beat up by their dad in “PowerProf.,” so they could convince Professor Utonium to stop fighting crime with them without having to tell him just how much he was embarrassing them, rather than going too far by seriously injuring or murdering him, and turning on the girls when he had them locked in those cages and easily could have gotten his way without anyone stopping him there.
But back to “Forced Kin,” I love it because Mojo and the girls begrudgingly working together, was hilarious. Mojo losing his shit over a giant alien/robot overlord destroying Townsville in all the ways he always wanted to, and then beating him with just a baguette, was hilarious. Mojo hitting the store clerk on the head with that baguette at the check out line was hilarious.
As far as episodes centered on the protagonists of the series goes, that’s a tough one, too, but I’d have to go with “Knock It Off” because it’s a surprisingly realistic dark truth that some terrible people like Dick really only want to have children to exploit for fame and money by forcing them to be in the limelight, forcing them to be whatever they want them to be, rather than giving their kids the freedom of choice to be who they want to be and respecting that, so they can be famous and make money off of them. There are terrible parents like Dick, who really only see their kids as products, rather than people.
However, Professor Utonium is not like that in the classic cartoon. He loves Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup for exactly who they are as his daughters. If he were to ever lose any of them, then he would likely be too devastated to ever even make new girls all over again because they still wouldn’t be his Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, who he created, got to know, and raised as his kids originally, but knock offs. He didn’t create them to be famous or rich, but because he wanted kids. a strong and loving family bond really well. Also, the writers really had the girls and Professor Utonium say Dick’s name so many times in “Knock It Off,” and it was just hilarious.
Least favorite episode from the classic PPG cartoon would definitely have to be “Moral Decay,” and it’s not because Buttercup got comeuppance for her crimes by getting her teeth knocked out by every villain in the city, because I ever believed she was ever in any sort of real danger in that beat down on this fantasy kid superhero parody/satire with over-the-top violence getting used on characters to stop them from committing crime or punish them, which they easily survived and fully recovered from 99% of the time, unless the plot demanded otherwise, anyway, or because she got forced to pay her dental bills with her stash of coins by her dad.
I wouldn’t have cared if they had just had that same ending of Buttercup getting her teeth knocked out as comeuppance for her crimes by all of the villains, except without needlessly involving Blossom and Bubbles in the set up, then having them creepily revel in their sister’s suffering from the sidelines and at the dentist’s office in the aftermath, and without making it seem like Professor Utonium didn’t care. Wasn’t Buttercup’s character assassination in “Moral Decay” to fit the Aesop that greed is evil bad enough as it was in this episode? At the very least, I could see the logical storytelling reasoning behind the choice to do that with Buttercup’s character in “Moral Decay,” but to further spit on the core themes of strong family bonds between the girls as sisters and Professor Utonium as their father by also dragging them down in response to finding out what she did in very needlessly and uncharacteristically indifferent and/or hateful ways? Just no..Fuck that noise! Those were just entirely OOC reactions thrown in to create a sense of gratuitously mean spirited nightmare fuel and unfortunate implications for shock value in the Utonium’s family’s interactions with Buttercup at the end there when they found out, and that level of dysfunction between them as a family was never something I ever needed or wanted to see on this cartoon, which often emphasized how much the girls and the Professor Utonium loved and supported each other as a family, in spite of their occasional bickering and disagreements, anyway. I wasn’t getting that love and support between them in “Moral Decay” much at all, and it made me angry.
#bubblesbenson#answer#classic ppg#favorite classic ppg episode#that is such a tough one to answer because I have so many but I’m going to go with knock it off from S4#top three favs are knock it off best rainy day adventure and forced kin#because the writers of it balanced adult humor nightmare fuel and the core theme of the girls and the Professor as a strong family Rowell#ep: knock it off#ep: forced kin#least fav is moral Decay. the dc comics did the tooth fairy story for the girls way BETTER before in issue 5 anyway#besides the DC comics did a WAY BETTER version of the tooth fairy story in issue 5 called holy molar before#I just wish the CW hadn’t turned Professor Utonium into Professor Duck#also favorite villain centric would have to be forced kin though Mojo was the nominal hero there though#so I just replace the comic version of the tooth fairy story as canon in my mind instead of moral decay#I love how the girls and Mojo have this highly dysfunctional yet occasionally sweet love/hate relationship#though it’s mostly one-sided considering Mojo is usually a villain trying to kill the girls take over the world or committing other crimes#but I always found it interesting that he would actually agree to be the girls butt-monkey or fall guy#because none of the other villains would ever even consider doing that for the girls#it’s weird because like mojo almost never shows the girls any sort of genuine feelings of affection#but he’ll actually work with them or for them when they ask for his help#and they just love messing with each other just to petty like siblings in episodes like child fearing and Candy is dandy#I get that the whole point of Buttercup was that she was the toughest fighter and the misunderstood rebel and usually I let it go#but yeah moral decay just felt like a big middle finger to her character and frankly the entire utonium family in general#blossom ppg#bubbles ppg#buttercup ppg#Professor utonium#mojo jojo

Let’s Get Dangerous Review!
It’s dangerous. In a good way. <cue dramatic music> Okay, obviously there’s more thoughts than just that. I’ve been waiting for it for weeks, and it arrived just as awesome as I hoped. For the first time, let’s give my full movie style review to the double length Ducktales special: “Let’s Get Dangerous.”
The spoilers are open and widely discussed, so maybe don’t look past the following image if you haven’t seen the episode yet.
Tumblr media
To note, I’m not entirely convinced that this was actually meant to be a pilot. It definitely does introduce a new status quo for the Darkwing trio of characters (minus Honker for now, here’s hoping they haven’t forgotten him), but it’s also a very remote story that still tries to take place within the context of Ducktales’ universe, so it really depends on what they choose to do.
But let’s just get down to it.
First off, as I mentioned in my earlier post… Taurus Bulba. He was maybe the biggest and most eye-catching aspect of the first part of the episode, as one of the few elements we hadn’t already seen yet, and his reputation as a really, really bad guy has quite preceded him. As I may have gushed somewhat about, he’s one of the best parts of the special.
James Monroe Inglehart, for those living away from the Disney scene for a decade, is an actor and voice actor most famous for being the original Genie on Broadway’s Aladdin. A grand, bombastic presence, he generally plays characters who - much like the genie himself - a big, jolly, kind but maybe a little mischievous souls that take the attention of a room and brighten up the characters’ day - like Lance, in Tangled the Series. The most interesting thing about Bulba is that Inglehart brings that exact same energy to the role, and so Bulba keep that jollity and lofty personality in a package that becomes increasingly less nice as the story goes on. As someone who keenly remembers Taurus Bulba as cruel monster willing to hurt kids and capable of crushing Darkwing like nobody’s business, the contrast was immediately fun to watch - and I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.
In this story, Bulba is recast from a crime lord intending to use a super weapon go on an endless plundering spree to a FOWL scientist with a respectable reputation who intends to use a super weapon to take over the world, and the transition goes off fairly well. The end result is a pretty standard mix of superhero fight and Bond plot, as Bulba ends up holed up in his lab with his squadron of elite supervillain minions - all plundered a particular fictional universe - with the heroes having to break in / escape from his captivity and stop him before he destroys everything. It’s very Silver Age, with Bulba in the role of maniacal villain, and he’s contrasted very well with Bradford - who is as always an antagonist who prides himself on pragmatism. This contrast leads to some great moments: Bradford’s increasing frustration with the cavalier attitude of both the heroes and the villains gives him the best stint of characterization he’s had since the beginning of the season - he basically spends the whole episode arguing with everyone about how badly thought out their actions are, while also badly hiding his own secrets.
The Fearsome Five (of which Quackerjack is voices by his original actor) are great to see, though used minimally. If you’re expecting to see classic show dynamics between the villains and Darkwing, that’s not really what they’re used for. Mostly, they’re minions with personality, and they’re more there to establish both to the audience and to Drake the character himself that he is ready to take on really big threats even with his lack of superpowers.
But enough about the villains, on to the heroes!
A couple episodes ago, with the Halloween episode, I criticized that story for not balancing its A and B plot all that well. This episode does not have that problem. The story is actually maybe about three fifths Darkwing’s story, and the rest of it is Scrooge and the nephews as they figure out what Bulba is up to independently of Darkwing and try to stop him themselves. It’s somewhat similar to Timephoon, where they’re there constantly and are doing their own bid to solve the story but the focus isn’t primarily on them. Instead, we have some of the best “HDL actually matter to the story” bits of the show, where they escape Bulba’s prison on their own and lead Bradford out, all the while slowly figuring out that something is shady about the guy. Meanwhile, Scrooge gets stuck in the original Ducktales universe’s most memed scene, which was a fun gag (but not the best gag - that would be the one and only Bonkers D. Bobcat as the Harvey Bullock-style cop in the Darkwing show).
Which I suppose can lead to a digression about the mad science bit here. The alternate universes here are… interesting. I always pay special attention to how things like time travel or other dimensions or alternate universes work in a series, and this one reminds me the most - I think - of DC’s Dark Multiverse: a collection of universes that are both explicitly fictional but made real because people created them. Ultimately, it’s less as if the OG Darkwing universe exists independently of the Ducktales universe and more that the in-universe Darkwing show as a world based off of it that the characters can reach into. I wish the episode had delved into that more, and now you’ve got people trying to use it to look for more establishment of OG Darkwing elements (though I was fine with it being separate, perceiving anything else as rather needlessly inexplicable), but ultimately that is not specifically what the episode is about, and is kept rather separate.
So what is the episode about? Like you didn’t already know…
Tumblr media
As always, Gosalyn Waddlemeyer is a little girl whose grandfather was done away with by Taurus Bulba, and who falls into Darkwing’s lap over the course of his adventure with him. Here, her grandfather is (possibly) still alive, just lost in the ether a la Gravity Falls’ Grunkle Ford. And like the mighty glazed McGuffin, Darkwing’s goal in the episode is less strictly defeating Bulba as it is helping her get her grandfather and her home back. Gosalyn here is self-sufficient and action oriented (it may be my inner Brooklyn 99 fan talking, but I loved Stephanie Beatriz as her, and kind of wish she had gotten a wider range of lines), taking on her own crusade against Bulba until she realizes she can go to Darkwing for help, and is constantly trying to pull him into the fight - even while he is reluctant, and no matter what the danger - so that they can win and she can get justice. But in the end, she has to accept that they might not be able to.
As a longtime Batman fan, I immediately recognized a plethora of Robin references with Gosalyn. She’s a kid who’s family was taken from her by a villain, given a surrogate home by the hero - like Dick Grayson. She’s a street tough who originally met the hero committing a crime, and who is both skeptical of his heroism and heavily critical of his flaws - like Jason Todd. And she’s a young genius with a lot of scientific knowledge, tech skills and common sense - just like Tim Drake. There’s even elements of Carrie Kelley or Terry McGinnis there, in her determined if not gung-ho approach to heroism despite her circumstances and the hermit-like behavior of the hero.
And in the end, this is a fairly apt comparison, because Gosalyn essentially ends the story more as a Robin figure than previously, now as Darkwing’s more of a ward and official sidekick alongside Launchpad. The story does not, to note, involve her being adopted by Drake or becoming Gosalyn Mallard. Indeed, they don’t really end up having that sort of relationship. They’re distant and don’t really know how to relate to one another, and not about to broach the subject of family except in distant terms. There’s ultimately far less emphasis than before on Gosalyn and Drake being similar and hitting it off on a personal level, or even really Drake keying into Gosalyn’s potential and spirit as a person vs an element in his adventure. Throughout the story he regards her as a victim to be saved, then ultimately as an ally with potential to be respected, and in the end he gives her an offer to take up the mantle along side him while they search for her family… which ultimately creates something very different.
For people expecting something a little more akin to the implications the show made with Gyro and BOYD, Gosalyn here. The implication that they could be a family is brought up by Launchpad, but neither Drake nor Gosalyn are really there at the end of the story - I want to say they’re not there yet, but the way the story goes gives off the impression that the dynamic duo dichotomy is the relationship for the two the writing is most comfortable giving them.
Again, I’m a longtime Batman fan, so I understand and appreciate the nod. It gives them a really cool status quo that’s distinct from what came before it. Still, the strong father/daughter relationship between the two was very much the heart and soul of the original show, an endearing quality that created the character traits we love about both characters, and ultimately one of the primary characteristics that set the Darkwing family apart even from most comic book superhero stars - so even if they made something great out of it, it’s a shame to see Ducktales ultimately keep that relationship at arms’ length.
But that’s less a criticism and more just something I wish they had chosen to do differently - and it makes sense for the 2017 team’s take on Darkwing, which has always been more focused on “irrepressible hero who doesn’t give up” - a pluckie rookie growing into his competence - than “former fool whose great potential is unleashed through the people around him.” The latter is there, sometimes, but it’s not prominent. Original Darkwing was a man made better by his daughter, while the modern Darkwing doesn’t quite need that to find the hero within.
The only (and I mean only) criticism I have is the way the characters kind of jump around in how they respond to things. Drake wanting more crime, and then freaking out when super crime shows up and it’s way more than he thought he can handle is fine, and is one of the better character bits in the special. It being unclear whether Drake is against fighting supervillains because he thinks they’re too powerful vs because he doesn’t want to risk Gosalyn’s safety is another thing, though - it seems the show intended to imply the latter but forgot to include the line somewhere, so it’s not inferred until later and Drake suddenly benching Gos towards the end lacks set-up.
For her part, Gosalyn is suddenly and quickly afraid to fight for a brief moment so Launchpad can inspire her to face impossible odds, even though it was hardly the first time she had done so in the special. The ending I think wanted the characters to be somewhere that the rest of the special hadn’t gotten them to yet. But it’s all good - it ends well, so all’s well. Best gag of the episode, btw? Fenton, who is awful at keeping his secret identity secret, has hooked up Darkwing with his own hi-tech hero lair. Darkwing, despite supposedly being a detective (or at least an actor playing a detective), ends up as one of the two or three people remaining on Earth who hasn’t figured out that Fenton is Gizmoduck. Darkwing considers himself good friends with Fenton, despite hating Gizmoduck. It’s actually very funny.
It’s as of now unclear what is coming up for Darkwing. We know the St. Canard characters are going to factor in more as the FOWL plot progresses, and this episode kicks that plot into high gear - the characters now know about FOWL and their intentions, and are preparing themselves for a far more dangerous fight than usual. In short, with the midseason comes the renewed focus on the primary plot of the season, as per the usual. Like I said before, while I’m not as on board as most with the idea that this was a pilot, St. Canard was definitely established here - with series regular Zan Owlson as it’s new mayor, and a general aesthetic and set of protagonists. It wouldn’t be remiss for a future episode this season to take place there (though we know Negaduck isn’t happening this season).
The new few episodes, however, are focused more on the quest for Finch’s treasures and FOWL, so that’s going to have to wait for a while. We’ve been promised, as I recall, an episode that brings all the kids together (unless that’s part of the finale), which is nice - I may have mentioned before that the best episodes of the series have been the ones that put the kids (who are the characters with the most focus throughout its run) together and let all their personalities run through an adventure together - and with the cast growing somewhat constantly, it’s nice to know that no one is being forgotten.
Either way, I give the episode a great deal of recommendation - I only had a couple things that bothered me, and a few wishes for different choices, and ultimately I’m planning on watching it a ton of times just like I did the first Darkwing episode. From a classic Darkwing fan, and in the words of Bat-Mite, it’s a different intepretation to be sure, but not at all one without merit.
Tumblr media
So thanks to Frank Angones, Matt Youngberg and the Ducktales crew! I hope my virtual thumbs up reaches them somehow, but either way, it was a good day to be dangerous.

Ducktales finale spoilers
You’ve been warneddddddddd
Warning
Warning you againnnn
Sooo Ducktales will be ending soon my thoughts? Not as sad as when compared to Rise of the TMNT, Venture Bros, Brooklyn 99 (though it had a good run considering), Drunk History, Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. Though there are rumors Darkwing Duck is gonna be rebooted.... uhh maybe excited? I'd say maybe becauseeeee again its on a streaming service... and no for anyone's future question don't have Disney+ and have no intention of getting it why? Cause I'm broke/on a budget and I can't buy every stupid streaming service for the sake of a few shows.
But I'm getting off topic the show in general... sorta sad but sorta not. I'll be honest some eps of Ducktales in the last season didn't fit well with me. Some felt uhh very cliche/or readable, some felt kid dumb (but its a kids show so you're gonna get a few of those more than once), some felt like they were uhh if I had to compare like when you'd watch Adventure Time and you'd be "WTF was that one for". I wouldn't say dark you're just "that one felt random". Sometimes thats not bad but heh depends on the taste.
There are a few things disappointed we didn't get to see one Donald & Della's ACTUAL parents interacting with their children, GRANDCHILDREN. Don't get me wrong their interactions with Scrooge was nice but we barely got one ep with family that WASN'T him. You'd think given what dangerous work they were involved with we'd see a flashback or actual talk of their parents talking to them. Especially with Della being a single mother oO. Kinda feel it slightly unrealistic that they'd just sit and do nothing (and no there's no sign they're dead so they should be around) when their daughter disappeared into space. I mean maybe it'd been nice to see a few eps of past Donald getting advice from his mother Hortense how to raise the triplets. Heck would have like to see Hortense & Matilda's relationship.
Second the triplets father would had been nice oO. Yes he does have a father. All these fan ships but no one actually wondering "hey who's the boys father?".
Tumblr media
Third would had been nice to see more of Violet's family life. I mean whats the point of giving her "dads" if they never have a role beyond background character. Heck would had been nice to see a day of Violet and Lena's life with their fathers. Yes probably to the viewers it probably would had been boring but whatever 8B.
Tumblr media
Four uhh I dunno explore space more? Maybe actually see some of Moon's home. I'll be honest that episode of "Moonlander on Earth" ep always bugged me. While I could believe some of the moon aliens wanted to stay on earth. I'm not convinced an entire planet thought Earth was so amazing they'd just stay there forever. People are fickle things, I can believe some wanted to stay like a vacation. But I feel at some point some, like Penny wanted to just go home. And I always found it... disturbing that no one attempted to really listen (no I don't count Webby cause that was written more of an experience lesson than "oh I miss home"). I mean the McDucks have all the money in the world, thats how Scrooge spent almost all his fortune finding Della. I'm just not convinced Scrooge and them thought "Hey we got extra rockets if they wanna go home we'll let them". No it was "oh they'll never get home, lets not bothering asking or giving them those extra resources. I think the show MISSED a good opportunity to let Penny go home (as well as others). And since Fenton or Gyro are often considered so smart they couldn't make a special teleport device JUST for them or ways to keep communicating with the moon. Thus meaning they could have explored space. And while some might argue "yes we needed Penny for the finale" (minor spoiler). She didn't DO anything she and Goldie were mostly used for cameo purposes. Sooo wasted use there.
Tumblr media
Hmm anything else....  would have LIKED to seen more eps with Gandra/Fenton but hey if that Darkwing Duck spinoff is a thing maybeeee Gizmoduck will make special appearances and Gandra/Fenton can double date with Morgana & Drake(yes I wanted her to make an appearance I liked her goth look). Uhhh I don't think we ever got a Selene & Della interaction. (So far no eps were really... well friendship stuff. I mean I got a small fraction (if that) with Gods on the Block ep but it was near the literal END)
Tumblr media
Also wish we could had more from the old show cameos Kit/Molly, Rescue Rangers, Goofy... pft plus I'll be honest before the show ended would had loved an actual cameo of Goofy, Mickey & Donald just alll together. Pfttt omg I would had loved a Max & Roxanne cameo date/wedding (yes I shipped them).  Haha more interactions would had been fun. And while I enjoyed the Talespin sorta crossover... could had more (and yes sorta ship Kit/Della. heh sorta more of a crackship haha). And lets be honest that Molly cameo was wasted potential. I mean would had been cool to see Baloo & Becky. Though I understand to a degree why we didn't. At least with Baloo.  But ahh well what can you do.
Tumblr media
And same with Daisy and Donald buttttt gonna take some of the finale as something. I'm just gonna say it left enough for my imagination to think "they're having a happily ever after soon". Uhh another minor spoiler with Ludwig revealed not to be dead (which I'm glad)... just disappointed he wasn't in the credits or given more interactions with Scrooge. Yeah I know they weren't BEST friends or anything but I dunno I do associate them as friends.
Anything else... uhhh would had been nice to see more of Boyd and Doofus family moments too. I mean I dunno consideringgggg that life probably was better for Doofus' parents now that they had an ACTUAL loving child. Be nice to have seen more scenes. I mean heck that last ep with Doofus... uhh jumping? I assume it meant Doofus had closure and accepted his fate? So I dunno would had been good to see him and Boyd bond more. Heck I'd like to have seen his parents' telling Gyro in finale (yes minor spoiler) take care of "our" son.
Nowww onto the finale gonna put spoilers soo warning here.... as for the finale it was... good. I'm not gonna say "Oh it was the best everrrrrrrr". Nah it was pretty good given their budget or whatever. Yeah some felt rushed and all those cameos while I appreciate the thought felt wasted potential. I mean I get why budget/timing etc. Just saying you know could had some Goldie/Scrooge moments, more Lena & Violet, Webby friendship stuff. I mean heck when they were all "released" (and judging by that cube system) there was a lot we don't really see where they go or how the Ducktales group got everyone where they originally belonged.
What did I think of Webby's so called surprise... uhh mixed. Bigger picture wise kinda explained that need to be so clingy. To a degree I sorta agree with the split fans I like it and I don't like it. But I get it the writers NEEDED something for shock value cause lets face it they ran everything else. I say a part of me didn't like it cause I was kinda hoping this version would show us Webby's real parents. And I'm not fully convinced that photo was just a fake or some random relatives Beakley took to shut her up.
I think she sounded genuine when she said "I missed a lot". I admit when the whole "oh she's made from FOWL" was becoming obvious. I thought Beakley was subtly hinting that her daughter made Webby. I dunno could see that happening seeing that this whole ep was hinting at adults who did NOT think of their actions effects (yeap Scrooge, Della's choice to go on that rocket, Bradford's granny traumatizing the dummy), I thought "Ohh sooo she felt neglect and rebelled or fell for the enemy". But anyways yeah I still think Beakley probably DID have a daughter. Where is she? I dunno, thats kinda the whole point. Either she died or like Donald did with Scrooge, broke away from her family. I really believe whatever the reason, her daughter's gone from her life and Beakley deeply regrets she wasn't a more attentive mother. She probably to a degree saw Webby as her second chance to do better by her.
Tumblr media
Hmmm lets see anything else.... as dark as it was with what Bradford did... not really shocked. And while he was obviously a villain I think his background did prove a point. But I could be thinking of Dean Venture and Dr Venture's childhood. Not every kid is built or for that matter wants an adventure life. Bradford was a product of his well intentional but neglectful family. Had the triplets or Donald not wanted this life that could had been them. Thankfully it wasn't 8B.
I admit the part with the villians at the end was quiet surprising. Not because they turned him into a bird pft. But because technically they saved Scrooge but heh I get it, chalk it up to either "they don't like to be used" or "Bradford was so terrible he was beneath even their level". Just somewhat made me wish Magica could have found Poe or something (I liked his design and voice actor).
Tumblr media
And super glad we didn't really lose a lot of villains. I dunno I wanted Phantom Blot & Pepper to escape, fight another day stuff. And I kinda think to a degree thats why we saw that dumbed-down clone of Bradford. He's gone but that clone could get "smarted" up to stir more trouble 8B. Maybe I dunno.
Heh but all in all I enjoyed this finale. Its was wayyyy better than Star and Tangled's finale, no flippin' drama :P. I mean I suppose you could call Donald & Daisy leaving drama? but no not really cause literally none of this bothered me. The credits kinda gave me that nostalgia of how this show got so much attention. So while it was rushed maybe and it had its flaws. All in all it kept up with the heart. Soo I enjoyed the credits a lot good way to say goodbye
Tumblr media
(just putting that gif there cause I liked it 8B)
Anything else....KEITH FREAKING DAVID, another reason to give this finale a point best flipping part I’m just sad I have no gif to use XD

BONUS ROUND (aka part 1.5)- Some additional things for staging King Lear so that Edmund is 100% more sympathetic
Part 1
Due to the fact that the audience needs to be told things via physical action makes this job of mine (ie making Edmund more sympathetic) (that I definitely did not have to do) a whole lot more difficult.
I gotta add in some more stage directions to really push the points I’m going for. So that even the dumbest audience member will get my point.
Casting/ Costumes
-Curan, who I have previously decided is the Captain Edmund talks to later, has red hair. Like, a bright shade of red. Since it’s not a common hair color, the audience will be able to recognize that the same servant is now the captain.
- regarding Cornwall’s costume- This is a very valid example of what I was trying to describe (but like- plus a black jacket)
Tumblr media
-Edgar and Gloucester have a very strong family resemblance to each other. Edmund does not. In fact, Edmund looks almost nothing like them. (For example, if Edgar and Gloucester have dark brown hair, Edmund would have light blond hair.) (I know, I know- that’s not necessarily how genetics work. BUT. That’s also not not how genetics work.)
-EXCEPT. Now hear me out because I’m right. Hear me out. This is good. Edmund and Gloucester share the same, very distinctive, eye color. So that when Gloucester’s eyes get stabbed out, it’s also severing the one strand of a connection he had with Edmund. ✨Symbolism!✨
ACT 1 SCENE 1
-At the start of the scene, the stage already has people on it. It’s like. A party kinda but not really? It’s a royal event- a bunch of noblepeople would be there. The Door (TM) (and by now (assuming you read part 1) you should know that The Door (TM) is one of my favorite set pieces here) is on the stage towards the middle in the back.
-you can see Gloucester, Kent, and Edmund walking towards it, ie to enter and join the other guests in the room. There is no wall between “behind” the door and in front of it. Only an implied wall created by how the set is set up. So you can still see them.
Here’s a not-so-helpful illustration:
Tumblr media
I do recognize how unhelpful that illustration is. I’m sorry.
-As they approach the door, Gloucester pauses, waiting. Kent stands behind him- waiting to see what he’s waiting for. As you’ve guessed by now, this Earl of Gloucester is waiting for his bastard son to open the door for him. (Headcanon that Gloucester treats Edmund like a servant 99% of the time. Headcanon that Edmund would rather be a servant, because at least servants can quit their jobs.)
-Edmund opens it. Kent’s just like “what- what just happened?”. But Gloucester enters, and Edmund seems to be waiting for him to enter as well, and so he does. (It was this, combined with everything I wrote in Part 1, that makes Kent ask “Is not this your son, my lord?”, ie ??he’s not a servant tho?? Why, Gloucester?? Why are you like this??)
-As I mentioned earlier (I think- Unless I was just planning on mentioning it, and I didn’t actually get around to doing so) (I don’t exactly write these things in order), Extras are already on stage. The whole stage has a “ah yes this is an upper class event. The people here are all fancy rich people” vibe.
-As Gloucester has his epic conversation with Kent, other less high ranking noblemen stand around them as well.  They don’t say anything or join in- probably because they’re less higher ranking.I know nothing about the hierarchy of English nobility, but let’s just say that Gloucester and Kent are pretty high ranking people.
-anyway the only purpose of doing that is for the “make Gloucester 100% more of a jerk” aspect of this.
-ie, he’s not just insulting Edmund in private, or in front of a close friend of his. He’s insulting him in public, in front of all the random noblemen.
-everything else I wrote in Part 1 about this scene stays the same.
ACT 1 SCENE 2
-Edmund stands by the desk as he talks to Edgar. (As you’d remember from part 1, he was sitting at the desk as he started his 2nd soliloquy).
-at “Some villain hath done me wrong!” Edgar slams his hands down on the desk. Edmund backs away as he says his lines “That’s my fear....”. He sees that Edgar is really angry (yeah, no kidding.), and is like “oh.... oh he would not hesitate to kill me with his bare hands at the moment.”
ACT 2 SCENE 1
-at “and of my land?..... loyal and natural boy, I’ll work the means to make thee capable”, Gloucester is still facing away from Edmund/ not looking at him. He motions vaguely to him at the words “loyal and natural..”. The line is said in a way making it clear that by it he’s actually saying “well Edgar’s not a valid heir to my stuff anymore, what’ll I do with my land??.... ah, I guess Edmund will have to get them. Oh well.”
ACT 2 SCENE 2
-Not exactly a stage direction, but a second reason for why “his” in the sentence “no more, perchance, does mine, nor his, nor hers” is referring to Gloucester and not Edmund:  Kent’s response to this is “I have seen better faces in my time”, so “his” can’t be Edmund, since practically the first thing Kent says about Edmund in Act 1 Scene 1 is “hmmm yes that is a Nice Looking person”
-I’m revising what I said in part 1 (mainly just about where Edmund is standing on stage/ where everyone is standing on stage)- I’m changing this scene to be more in favor of @suits-of-woe’s Cornwall Theory. (HEY PEOPLE, GO READ THE CORNWALL THEORY. I don’t just link it here for fun- I link it so you all can go read it)
-SO
-just to reiterate what I said last time about this scene- Edmund enters to break up Kent and Oswald’s fight with a sword (more specifically- Edgar’s two handed sword that he just used to fight Edgar and stab himself with). His arm is wounded from that one time about two seconds ago when he stabbed it. It’s been bandaged. He’s holding the sword well enough, but it’s clear that he wouldn’t be able to actually fight anyone with it.
-NOW MOVING ON TO NEW STUFF
-at “..come, I’ll flesh ye..”, Kent draws his sword and challenges Edmund. (Wait. His sword’s already drawn, right? Ok then nevermind, he just challenges Edmund.)
-Gloucester, Cornwall, and Regan Enter, and walk a bit onto the stage.
-At “Weapons! Arms! What’s the matter here??”, Gloucester notices the fight and takes like 5 steps away from it. It’s clear that he’s like “nope nope nope not dealing with this today-”
-Regan stays where she is. She’s not particularly scared of the fight, and knows that neither Kent nor Oswald would dare injure her, considering she’s literally the king’s daughter.
-Cornwall, however, at his lines of “Keep peace, upon your lives! He dies that strikes again!” moves to stand in between Edmund and Cornwall- ie facing Cornwall, in a way that would be protecting Edmund. He also is confident neither Kent nor Oswald would hurt him- he’s higher ranking than both of them.
(Illustrated for your convenience) (Scribbled out Edmund bc I didn’t know how tall to make him)
Tumblr media
-Cornwall can see clearly that Edmund is in no condition to fight (at least not with a two handed sword). As the next few lines are said, Cornwall takes the sword from Edmund, in a “don’t worry about this- I got this” sort of way. He gently pushes Edmund towards where Gloucester and Regan are standing- in the same sort of way; showing “hey. I’ll deal with this. It’s not your job to defend us. Go chill with the rest of The Group.”
 ACT 3 SCENE 3
-remember when I said Gloucester is angry in this scene?
-yeah well I gotta really push that point using some ✨stage directions✨ rather than just “Gloucester yells a lot”
-ANYWAY
-The Door (TM) is turned sideways for this scene, and Gloucester and Edmund enter from the side of the stage
Here’s a totally helpful illustration
Tumblr media
-Gloucester is clearly angry, Edmund is Hiding His Emotions (TM).
-Gloucester starts his lines while he grabs the doorknob and forcefully opening the door. As Gloucester storms on to the main part of the stage, he slams the door behind him, right before Edmund could walk through it after him. Because of course, Gloucester has to forget that Edmund exists at lest once a scene. Edmund stands outside the door for a sec, as if saying “......wow.”. Then he enters and joins Gloucester inside.
ACT 5 SCENE 3
-As Albany says “Half blooded fellow, yes!”, last time I wrote that Edmund is momentarily surprised, then glares at him. This time I’m here to change this a bit-
At first I was picturing it like This:
Tumblr media
But then I was like, “no,, that won’t make Edmund 100% more sympathetic- that would only make him like 65% more sympathetic.”
-anyway, we gotta raise Albany’s aggression level. Because if they’re equally aggressive to each other The Audience might just. Not get it. They won’t get that we’re out here trying our hardest to make ya sympathize with Edmund.
-So. And Hear me out. Because this DOES have a point. I’m gonna get to it. So to raise Albany’s aggression levels here, Albany grabs Edmund’s tie or jabot (whatever neck piece the costume has. I don’t care how historically accurate the costumes are) and pulls him towards him (in like. An aggressive Way.) He lets go as soon as he finishes saying that one line- he only did it to prove he was serious about challenging Edmund. Either way, he did It in a more pulling forward motion than a grabbing on motion, and so now Edmund is standing on the other side of Albany. (Was this basically just a way for me to change where Edmund is standing? Maybe.)
-now that Edmund is standing on the other side of Albany, the scene continues as I wrote it out in part 1- ie Edmund glares at Albany. Except Albany is no longer standing in front of him (ie facing him).
Here’s an illustration to help out-
Tumblr media
So far, Edmund never glared at anyone (or showed his anger in general) straight to a person’s face. He always only lets his mask fall when he’s alone or when the subject of his anger can’t see him. So now it’s more consistent- their positions on the stage changed so that Edmund can still glare at Albany, and also doesn’t have to drop his act.
-AND THAT’S IT-
 (-FOR NOW-)
