📄What’s a WIP you never finished that you would like to go back and revisit? the pet names zkka fic!! the first draft is done, i just never got around to properly sprucing it up bc split wip focuses/priorities put it on the back burner, but at some point i just gotta get it checked off the list!

also, the art heist au. it has several scenes (and their 'intermissions') written, the art has all been picked out, papercraft builds have even been vaguely constructed for it. and then it was just. dropped. for reasons i can't remember but i'm assuming also just split priorities, rip </3 but it's so much FUNNN i wanna at last get more of it written, even if it takes forever!!!!

(zkka klimt was actually one of the intended pieces for this fic! it gets featured at the end, and the reason why it was the one that actually got constructed is bc it just happened to work out for zkka week that year lol)

My restaurant buddy and I gave the more casual, à la carte take on Mooncusser, Moon Bar, a go tonight, and, I have to say, this is my favourite restaurant in all of Boston. I have not had one disappointing dish in either concept, and the service has always been phenomenal.

Everything is wicked fresh with loads of bold flavours. Regardless of the wine you get, it will pair well with the dishes, just in different ways.

If you're in Boston and have a decent wad to blow, I HIGHLY suggest either Moon Bar or Mooncusser; you won't go wrong with either.

Marinated halibut with cilantro, tomatillo, avocado, served with tostones.

Red

“I will. I saw some red sky this morning.” Daeron takes his old sailors’ rhymes far more seriously than anyone else Alicent knows.

“Thank you for telling me. I’ll be sure to look out for any ships on their way home tonight.”

Daeron gives her a funny little salute before walking off. He wants to join the Navy one day, even if most everyone on Dragonstone considers such a thing a betrayal. Alicent is more concerned about the harsh Navy regimen breaking her littlest child into bits.

Free

It’s September, which means the sea is cooling down, but it still feels warm to Alicent. Perhaps it’s the way the sea is an embrace, keeping her in its arms. She floats on her back, looking toward the sky and toward the light that is busy casting her gaze across the sea, and she is at peace. She feels free when she is in the water, and sometimes she thinks about diving down, joining the drowned. She doesn’t know if her lungs would burn the way they should, if the lack of air would break her the way it’s supposed to. Not when the waves hold her so gently when her face is above the water.

Her peace is in the sound, the waves crashing on the beach, and in shutting her eyes. It is her alone time, and it rejuvenates her. She dives below the surface, into the dark. She moves her legs and her arms like some sort of leaping frog, but it’s always been what suited her. It’s not quick, but she does not care about being quick now. The sea is calm tonight. Even the storm last night was short - that was easy to discern. There will be no wrecks tonight, unless Larys begins mooncussing.

Lips

Agnes’s lips flattened into a thin, tight line. “I don’t think I will. There is a bit of me in it, Gabriel, and I would not sacrifice that for a cause I don’t believe in.”

“You aren’t losing your vision, are you, Mrs. Nutter?” Doubtless Lord Gabriel thought he sounded kindly for his concern over the older woman, but as usual, he came off only as patronizing. “The man looks nothing like you.”

“No. He does not.” She put down her paintbrush and removed her glasses. “You misunderstand me. But if you are so certain that you must show off the young man’s visage…” She trailed off, distracted. In truth he was not very young, and neither was Lord Gabriel, but Agnes Nutter had considered herself eighty years of age since her tenth birthday, and therefore everyone was young to her. 

Cool

As Aponoia shuts the door behind her, Lucienne immediately sobers up. She hasn’t cried in front of someone in years. It’s not that she doesn’t want to - it’s that she can’t anymore. She’s just incapable of it. Something about being cool and collected all the time. “I’m sorry,” she says, sitting down on the bed. “It’s just been a really odd few days.”

Aponoia’s room, unlike Morpheus’s, is decorated with a clear aesthetic, and that aesthetic is miserable. Everything seems to be various shades of gray, except a series of paintings of birds lining the walls, which are permitted splashes of red every once in a while. There is a rat enclosure sitting atop her dresser with four visible rodents inside. Aponoia hands Lucienne a box of tissues. “My family has been known to have that effect on people. But let it all out.”

Lucienne shakes her head. Even when given permission, she cannot resume her tears.

Sweet

Eventually, dirt path gives way to cobblestone road, where there are a number of booths set up outside the storefronts of Dragonstone. Nearly every speck of paint is peeling, and the hinges of every door groan with rust, and the air is sharp with salt, as it is for miles, but it is all familiar. It has not changed once throughout Alicent’s lifetime, and that is incredibly comforting. The market by the wharf still has the exact same nauseating yet sweet scent of dead fish and low tide that it always has, and Velaryon wares are still given pride of place, and poor, dead Laena Targaryen (neé Velaryon)’s beloved skiff Little Vhagar is still in the water, even if it hasn’t been used in years.

The town is unchanging in everything but its views on Alicent, apparently. She has not truly been at home in Dragonstone since her mother died. She is the lighthouse keeper now. Her line is of guardians, perhaps sent by the gods, perhaps not - regardless, on an island dependent on boats who are, in turn, dependent on the whims of storms, she is something like a holy figure. She does not exaggerate. She recognizes a few faces in the market, how could she not, but all they see is her green cloak, a sign of her occupation, and so they trace a seven-pointed star on the backs of their left hands. It is a Dragonstone tradition - they performed it for her mother, and now they perform it for her, and one day they will perform it for Helaena.

Snippets 1, 2, and 5 are all taken from my as yet untitled WIP that started out as a lighthouse keeper and siren AU for House of the Dragon but basically just turned into a love letter to New England, where I grew up. Snippet 3 is from another untitled WIP, a Dorian Gray AU for the Ineffable Husbands ship. Snippet 4 is from an unreleased chapter of This Is Why I Don't Leave The House.

Alright I haven't been working that hard on the november campaign, since work's been nuts and I moved recently.

BUT

I have gotten the premise and setting stuff figured out, so here's some text vomit:

PREMISE: You are passengers on the Queen Neri a coast-hopping passenger ship headed for Luskan. One dark night in the northern sea, with Luskan a day's sail away, the Queen Neri runs aground, dumping you unceremoniously into the midst of Fey Mooncussers, land based pirates who lead ships to their doom by faking a lighthouse, leaving the passengers and merchandise on the ships free for the taking. It is your goal to find your way back home from the terrible, beautiful Fey Wild.

Tier of Play is just levels 1-5, with the party leveling to level 5 either upon escape from the Fey Wild or before the fight with the Annis hag, depending on if they are getting their asses kicked by other twee-er fairy critters

SETTING CRAP:

The Fey Wild is a mirror of the Material Plane, literally. The "map" of the Fey Wild is the map of Faerun, flipped horizontally

The part of the Fey Wild that the party has been shipwrecked on, however, is just the mirrored version of Gundarlun (I am boringly calling it Nulradnug until I think of something better, maybe never). Warm, swampy, and overall damp where the "real" thing is cold, harsh, and dry.

The island is ruled over by a coven of hags, one Annis hag which is the de facto head of the coven and controls the capital city, a Green hag who controls most of the inland territory and a Sea hag who controls the coasts.

The hags pay tribute to the Autumn Court, and are technically Unseelie but who gives a shit, certainly not all powerful Archfey!

By and large the Fey folk who inhabit the island are left to their own devices and don't mind the hags except for when the hags get it in their heads to do a wee bit of tyrannizing.  For the most part, the hags are kept entertained by the steady influx of mortals and their funny trinkets which come through the Fey Crossings.

The hags have developed a way to control when the Fey Crossings open, issuing permits to open them at certain times to "legitimate businesses"

The hags do NOT control where the Fey Crossings open, nor do they control when the Fey Crossings open on the Material Plane

When a Fey Crossing opens in the Material plane, roll 1d100.

On an even number, the portal opens that number of years after the last time this portal opened in the Material plane

On an odd number, the portal opens that number of years before the last time this portal opened in the Material plane

On a 1, 50, or 100, the portal opens a few minutes after the last time it opened in the Material Plane

Talk to players about whether they want to be spit out in a different time than when they went in - no skin off my back either way (probably easier if they don't)

"Legitimate business" usually entails dragging mortals through the Crossings for the hags to eat, make deals with, and otherwise fuck over

Extra mortals are delivered to the Autumn Court as tribute

This is why the Autumn Court puts up with them, despite not liking them all that much. The Autumn Archfey may be persuaded to help the party, if they catch their attention.

NPC mortals must succeed on a DC10 wisdom saving throw (creatures with Fey Ancestry have advantage) upon being brought fully into the Fey Wild or suffer one of the following determined by a d4 (these effects may be cured by a Break Enchantment, Remove Curse or similar spell):

Become entranced - the creature will not move, speak, eat, or drink unless made to.

Become hostile: the creature will attack any other creature near it, as though fighting for its life

Become charmed: the creature treats any other creature near it as though it has been charmed by that creature

Become forgetful: 3 times a day, flip a coin. On a heads, the creature remembers everything since the last coin flip. On a tails, the creature forgets everything that has happened since it entered the Fey Wild (generally upon the start of the day and after each short rest)

Upon escaping the Fey Wild, members of the party make a DC10 wisdom saving throw or suffer one of the following determined by a d4:

1: You forget everything, as though you were never there (you keep your levels though)

2: You remember some things as though they were events of a very vivid dream. You have disadvantage on recalling information about the Fey Wild

3: You remember entering and exiting the Fey Wild, but nothing between. You know you are missing those memories.

4: You remember everything

That's honestly all I'll bother prepping for lore, that should be enough to build more specific stuff off of once there are adventurers running around and asking questions.

Next I'm gonna make some disgusting quick and dirty maps and roll up some ~~~villages~~~
