I love the hc that all of Jon’s characters are related cause on one hand you’ve got this loser anime dweeb but in the other you have this unhinged lawyer. But then you’ve also got the most basic guy to ever exist then you have some kid with super powers AND you also have a religious virgin with a murderous inhumane son who lives in the woods, and I’m not even going to include what might happen if you try involve wiggly somehow. It’s just so crazy (I love it so much)

When I look at Allen’s original arm design I can’t help but think it’s... not his arm at all? It did look straight-up attached to him before he reformed it after losing it that one time. (Nothing similar to Allen’s “upgrade” ever happened to Krory and he doesn’t seem to need it, either. It’s always been stable since he got it - in my understanding, because it’s really “his”, as in he’s the compatible user.)
There is also the fact that Allen’s arm transforms into a sword. There is also that one panel in the manga where Neah is dying with an identical sword next to him. Since Allen had to “take in” Neah one way or another... did he just take his arm?
I keep thinking about this, especially in the context of Allen saying “I’ll always be an Exorcist no matter what” and so on. I wonder if he was one in the past at all. Granted, Neah being an Exorcist instead would be strange, especially seeing as he was the Fourteenth Noah. But then again, his entire existence seems problematic...

In relation to my previous post, I'd like to say we can all agree that unfortunately Kanda is definitely going to die, right? He is walking death flags from start. Plus, even if he does survive, dude isn't ever going to be happy.
Adding more under the cut cos im just rambling mostly lol. Might be jumbled anyway, im on mobile and tired
Its sort of why I added the poll option "supremely happy". We all know its not going to happen, bc in all honesty to give dgm that kind of ending ruins all the suffering we've had to endure along the way 😔 The poll option is my happy au in my head where Alma is alive somehow and Kanda can chill out. I hope Hoshino doesnt pull a jjba reset, if you know you know. Its in the realm of possibility given the hint into the Noah's backstories somewhat
On another note, pretty sure Lavi is going to live, or at least not die until he's rejoined Allen and the others. Ive never forgotten Hoshino saying that she wouldn't answer questions about whats under Lavi's eyepatch bc she had plans for him or something along those lines, im paraphrasing here bc i read this years ago so my memory could be off a bit.
Speaking of death flags, I fully believe Lenalee will live (as of rn anyway might change. We havent seen much of her for a while), but Komui is almost certainly done for. He's lived through too much and if he doesnt become an accomodator for innocence, then he's almost used up his plot use imo. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE that man to bits but cmon. Ciao
I dont wanna even think it but Johnny aint in safe territory out here in the wilds. Mans literally breaking his back for allen, doing the most, being the best, keeping allen sane in the strongest sense of the word, but bro. Allens breaking point? Gonna be if something happens to Johnny. He's had his moment with Kanda, had his moment with Link, Lenalee isnt around, Lavi is stuck in a chair for unknown amount of time, timcanpy is... well.. yeah, he doesnt have a strong enough bond with Tiedoll, and that just leaves Johnny. Idk if he'll die or not, but something has gotta happen to Johnny, and probably soon, and im not looking forward to that. Its another red flag for Johnny that Link and Allen have properly reunited now. I bet that Neah will take over and hurt Johnny, Allen will go ballistic and take back control as best as he can, link will have to offer some kind of support, blah blah you get the drift. Point is im real scared for Johnny

Hello! First of all I want to thank you so much for your translations. Second I wanted to say I read you analysis about chapter 234 and one thing I do not fully agree with it is along with Cross is the Noah actually secretly hating Earl. The biggest point about Noah Clan in D.Gray-man is that they ARE a family. Millenium Earl dissappeard from the world twice. Once when heart killed him and second when he turned himself into Mana and Neah. Anything from what we seen how other Noah acted towards Earl indicates they love him. HIM though not possible 'bearer of the heart' Cross saying they used also might indicate they pushed him too far thinking 7000 years of living and loosing your family over and over again it would drive anyone mad I think. Cross saying you want to help Mana might also mean she wants to ease his suffering as Millenium Earl since his job is...hard.
I think Adam did not wanted to become the accomadator of the heart back in the day if he was the one (Most likely is) and after the annilihation he formed the Clan...maybe? Anyway sorry about the rambling what do you think? Does my well not exactly theory make sense?
Hello~~ I have no idea how long this Ask has been in my mailbox and if you would ever see this, but...thank you so much, anyway > <.
I've been gone from DGM for so long, only coming back to translate the latest chapter then disappearing to other fandoms. So my memory is pretty hazy.
I think the Noah's feelings might be conflicted? Perhaps they want their revenge and want to fulfill their duty and make use of the Earl, but they also genuinely care for him as their family member. Not all love is created equal and love can definitely be toxic and manipulative. And the choice between love and duty is always a tough one to make.
The Noahs could also be using The Earl in the sense that they decide THIS (world destruction) is good for him. THIS is what he wanted. When they might have an inkling that THIS might not actually be what is best for him and what he truly needed.
Also, it could be the Noah's Memories within them that is forcing them on this path towards destruction, that is why Cross (who cares for both the Noah and Mana and Nea) encourages Road to fight the Noah Memories within her, to not let it consume her.

In light of Pride month imma randomly ramble about character stexualities and crap every day cause why the hell not
Today:
Flat-Top
Tumblr media
Absolute bisexual disaster
Following his heroes the diesels he tries to come across as straight but is failing horribly, the dude is very very bi. C.B., of course, saw that the moment he came to the Apollo Victoria yard, and happily exploited it. Flat-Top lost his virginity to the caboose and has slept with him a lot over the next ten years; the part of him that wants to be like the diesels always made him insist on topping, he wants to dominate
Kinda crushing on Greaseball for the longest time 👀 dude really just wanted to impress his hero and as such didn’t truly realise they were just using him as an errand boy. The last championship changed that; seeing what Greaseball was willing to do to his friend Rusty did shock him out of his crush a little. He never truly lost his admiration for the diesels, but he began to take less shit from them and as a result became actual friends with them instead of them just pushing him around
He actually has all the makings to be an incel and the rest of the yard is eternally thankful to C.B. for stepping up there
Ever since the championship he’s just enjoying being friends with the diesels, hanging out a lot with Tank specifically, purely platonically, what a bro can’t get hard thinking of his bro that’s totally normal nothing going on there shut the fuck up C.B. you too Dustin
I used to ship him with Dustin but Neah made me see them as brothers so that ship has sailed now
Lmaoooo for a character I don’t even care about that much I sure have a lot to say about him huh

One of the things about DGM I really like is the recurring theme of performance. Allen is a clown, putting on an act. The Earl compares his battle with Allen to the “white face clown picking on the auguste clown”. While the clown comparisons are interesting and definitely worth going into, I wanted to focus on the comparisons made to plays. In the beginning, when the holy war is compared to a play, the Earl is the director, the puppet master. He’s looming over the stage as the exorcists are forced to perform. The Earl holds all the power here and the exorcists can only try their best to minimize the damage.  By the point of Chapter 89 (very aptly named Tragicomedy), the Earl is on the stage and on equal footing with Allen, not looming over it. The fragility of the Earl’s role is further strengthened by Neah’s line called the Earl a “mad puppet of destruction.” The Earl is far from being in control of this situation and Cross even accuses the Noah of using him. Finally the last page I don’t have much to say about except what better way to describe D.gray-man?
The Earl’s role in the play changes as his role in the story is revealed. Despite the initial perception of the Earl as a larger than life world ender holding all of the cards, it is revealed he’s a far more tragic and complex character. He’s not the puppet master, but another performer.

Cross was an asshole in a lot of ways, and the anime only made it worse, but... He really did take a broken boy and put the pieces back together. Like it’s really obvious he did a LOT. There’s a reason Allen seemed at least vaguely more sane and put-together at the beginning of the series, and it isn’t just because of his mask. The events of the series opened up still-healing wounds and reversed a lot of the progress Cross had made. Examples?
Like at the very least, around Cross he was acting like he had before Mana died. That is PROGRESS, and huge progress at that. Allen acts like he’s terrified that if he doesn’t act like Mana, polite and perfect, people will leave, and its a testament to the complete faith he has that he’s stuck with Cross forever that he doesn’t bother anymore.
I also think Cross was an asshole to Allen because he knew that this boy had lost one person he idolized, one person he saw as Perfect, already, and it had broken him. Allen didn’t need a perfect parent. He needed an imperfect parent, someone he saw as human, someone that he didn’t turn into a saint in his mind if Cross died.
Talk shit all you want about Cross, but he took a shell of a boy and turned them into a semi-functional teenager that could make friends and bond with people and even let some people in, if only a little. Healing isn’t linear, but that kind of progress doesn’t happen overnight, and considering Allen’s “if I ignore it long enough, it didn’t happen” attitude toward trauma, I doubt he got there on his own. Just... appreciate Cross more, yeah?
(...also we talk a lot about Mana’s manners and dress and shit but like he wore what basically amounted to a clown suit underneath a trench coat. Allen ABSOLUTELY got his obsession with fancy clothes and a clean appearance from Mr. “Yeah you killed a lot of the scientists, but you DIRTIED MY CLOTHES AND THAT IS UNFORGIVABLE” Cross.)

Do you have a favourite train model?
YES! It's a split between the UP GTELs and DDA40Xs, and I'm gonna talk about both <3
The Union Pacifc GTELs were, in true Union Pacific fashion, absolute powerhouses. UP liked to have a few very powerful locomotives instead of more smaller locomotives. And GTELs were very powerful, in fact, they were the most powerful trains of their time. They could generate 8500hp, a feat that no other UP train has yet to reach (though several locomotives nowadays can generate +10k hp, just not UP locos).
So, if they were so powerful and amazing, why don't we use them anymore? Well, that's because they used bunker-c oil, and they didn't use it very efficiently. This wasn't a problem when bunker-c oil was dirt cheap, but it became a huge problem when it became more expensive than diesel! Also, they were a bit of a hassle to work with, since they were banned from certain cities for being too damn loud and just generally were kinda expensive to maintain. So, as the cons began to heavily outweigh the pros, UP retired them.
(bonus fact! Greaseballs helmet was possibly modeled after the GTELs, despite the fact that GTELs were not diesel, they were Gas Turbine-electric Locomotives)
The EMD DDA40X was Union Pacifics replacement for the GTELs. And like with GTELs, UP wanted powerhouses, and they got the most powerful diesels ever built!! Centennials could generate 6600hp!!!! Really, my only reason for liking them is because they're so stupid powerful, and because I like their angular appearance.
I haven't really delved into the history of the Centennials like the GTELs, but the reason why they were retired despite their great performance was because of maintenance costs.
Sorry this got a bit long! I just really really like these big strong boys <33

So I don’t normally post on here a lot but here goes! I’ve been reading D.Gray-Man since it’s initial release in 2004. It has been a wonderful experience and I’ve loved every bit of it. I have the utmost respect for Mrs. Hoshino and all the blood sweat and tears she undoubtably pours into the series. One of the best parts about being apart of DGM journey has been the fans until recently.
I had a close friend inform me that a DGM fan on multiple occasions told her to kill herself because her theory was one that didn’t align with this persons theory. Needless to say I was saddened and honestly really angered by this. Not everyone’s theories about characters or plot directions are going to be the same. To lash at out at another fan in anger about something as trivial as a DGM theory is ridiculous. One of the things I love about the series is how it’s brought me to some really wonderful people. I can discuss anything from DGM to just general life topics . But hearing from multiple friends not just this one that people have been so aggressive when it comes to their opinions and theories about certain characters really is frustrating for me. At the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinions, theories about characters in the series, and theories about plot arcs. But keeping in mind not everyone’s theories or opinions about characters will line up or match up and that A OK! But to do so in a hateful and aggressive manner isn’t ok. There is also something I feel people forget who get over aggressive when it comes to their opinions and theories. NONE OF THEM ARE KATSURA HOSHINO!! At the end of the day us fans our just that fans who appreciate an awesome series by and even more incredible author. Our theories are just that. Theories. Until told otherwise by Mrs. Hoshino.
Thank you all for listening to my rambling here is a photo of sweet baby Allen for your troubles!

Chapter 235: The Noahs and Road
Oh boy, this chapter was one hell of a ride. I was in tears. Time for the routine speculation.
I’m basically continuing off from the last chapter and doing some thinking. Last chapter we learned that the Noahs despise the pillar because it destroyed the world they lived in. And the pillar is something that the Earl is going to become. So they hate the Earl??????? But they also are protect the Earl desperately????
So what is the goal of the Noahs and how does Road fit in?
I won’t be as detailed as my post from the last chapter.
So, when we first were introduced to the Noahs and the Millenium Earl we were under the assumption that their goal was to destroy the world. Last chapter, I thought differently. The world was destroyed by the pillar and the pillar was what the Millenium Earl was destined to become and the Noahs hated the pillar DEEPLY. So then I thought, maybe they don’t desire the destruction of the world? But rather they’re trying to secretly prevent it?
This chapter overturned that when the Noah in Road confirmed their desire to destroy the world. So....what I have understood from what Road’s Noah said (I could be wrong, this is just my own speculation). This current world was built upon the ruins of the former world. And 1. The Noahs hate that this world exists while their’s doesn’t 2. The Noahs simply hate the world for a reason I don’t really get.
It is likely, the “God” of Innocence created this current world upon the ruins of the former world.
So what the heck was the flood anyways?
And how does Road fit in? Oh God I feel so so so sorry for her. She seems so torn and complex. She has the Noah inside of her that hates and hates and hates. She loves Mana, I think she loves Neah. She is probably cut off from her fellow Noahs because she knows more than them. She’s so alone and torn into so many pieces because there are parts of her that want different things. Her Noah hates the current world and the pillar. She loves Mana and wants to save him, she adores Allen and she loves her family. And she might even love Neah. But she also has her duties as a Noah. I hope Wisely knows everything and is on her side because her situation is starting to remind me of Allen’s.
Yeah, that’s it, kinda. Not much speculating, lol. Just overturning my post from last chapter and rambling my own observations and just putting down my questions.
I’d like to end with how Cross mentions that “you’re fools. the lot of you.” I wonder if he is talking about the Noahs or if he’s talking specifically about Road, Neah, Mana and Allen.
Give Road a hug, guys.

One of the best parts about being into D.Gray-man and wanting to look up fan art/content in general of specific characters online is that you have a choice of up to five or so different ways to spell their name because translation issues.

plottwist! what if its reincarnation fuckery not bodyswap fuckery with tyki. we have two neas and exactly one and a half manas. i say one and a half because there's the ghost that follows allen around crying and whining (and who might be fused with crown clown?? its muddy) but theres also fake mana whos just adam with a bodysnatching problem. idk this came to me late at night and i had to share it lol
this does pose some interesting questions and… theories lmao. Also I want to apologize that it took so long for me to get to these questions. Life catches up a lot and a lot of the people I followed on tumblr left in the wake of the Great NSFW Exodus. While we don’t exactly know what happened with Tyki and Nea, and I don’t have a theory for that, I DO have one for one and a half manas. The mana in allen is a fragment of the “mana” akuma the earl made. It’s shown that all the akuma are made by the earl, and have something to do with the akuma egg that was destroyed. The earl can see through the akuma’s eyes. They are extensions of himself - and therefore, extensions by proxy of mana.Allen, essentially, has a tiny fragment of mana inside him in the form of the curse mark. As the earl is a sorcerer/magician, this isn’t far fetched. What is left is “earl” Mana. This is a mixture of the dominant memories of Adam, and what’s left of the latent memories of Mana. Mana is secondary in this situation, as Adam seems to be more in control, but even Adam is incomplete. So we have two fragments of Adam (Mana and Nea) each with (possibly) ½ of Adam’s memories. Then you have Earl Mana, with 2/3 earl memories and 1/3 mana memories. This brings in an interesting situation for Allen, too.Theoretically, with 1/3 of Mana and an entire fucking Nea in his head, he is possibly closer to being a complete “Adam” than even the Earl. It’s why part of me is suspecting Allen will eventually become the Earl. Sorry if this is off on a tangent I’m just rambling now, Nonny. - Admin Riah
