A clang in the other room wakes Emma up. Usually, she doesnโt think much of it, sheโs more than used to being woken up by loud noises because of her sheer amount of siblings of all ages, but this time, she glances at the clock next to her bed to find that itโs four in the morning.
Now, this is going on her third year sharing an apartment with Norman and Ray. Itโs easy, really. They may not have similar majors, but theyโve lived together their whole lives anyway, so itโs purely familiar. But now that theyโre adults and fundamentally neither of the boys have changed one bit, she knows exactly why sheโs been woken up at this hour.
Groaning inwardly, she rolls her eyes and runs a hand through her hair before throwing her legs over the edge of her bed to stand up, bringing one of her blankets along without an ounce of remorse.
โShit!โ She hears Norman whisper, upon hearing her feet dragging against the carpet down the hall.
Thereโs a snort. โI told you that would wake her up.โ
When she comes into view Norman smiles sheepishly at her and picks up the pot he dropped off the floor. Thereโs a pack of ramen on the counter next to the stove. Ray lifts his mug to his lips and flips a page in his textbook, nonchalant.
Emma glares at them the best she can, her eyes squinting from the brightness of the kitchen light. โGo to bed!โ she yells. โYouโre gonna get sick again if you donโt sleep. Both of you!โ
โBut Iโve got an exam in the morning,โ Ray says.
โWe both know youโll be fine. Are you drinking coffee? At 4 am?โ Emma asks, exasperated.
โIโm working on my lesson plan,โ Norman tries. No excuse will work with Emma right now, he surely knows.
โI donโt care,โ Emma whines. โGo. To. Bed!โ
โIโm sorry I woke you, Emma,โ Norman says, setting the pot on the stove and crossing the room to stand in front of her. He places a hand on top of her head, which is mostly covered by her blanket, and smiles. She just purses her lips.
โIโll forgive you if you go to bed,โ she says. โI mean it. Youโll get sick again, Norman. You canโt teach your class if youโre sick and you know that.โ
โI do know that,โ he says. โBut I would have to be up in less than 2 hours anyway, so thereโs no point in me sleeping now.โ
โUgh, whatever,โ Emma sighs. She shoots Ray a pointed look, not even considering taking a jab at him considering heโs currently drinking coffee. โIโm going back to bed. At least eat something healthy, Norman.โ
