Cora’s Brother
A/N so I had this stuck in my head for a while and figured I’d put the story to use and actually write out when my head has been trying to tell me so here it is. So basically this is about the pack Cora had stayed with when everyone thought she was dead. It’s in my OC’s POV.
OC x Derek Hale
Words:3430
Might be a series....depends on how it does. Let me know what you guys think, the romance won’t start till a little later I just wanted to build the chemistry first. Plus this is after Jennifer and I don’t think Derek would hop into a relationship that fast.
I’ve always thought Derek should be with a fellow werewolf instead of a human or something else.
****************************
****************************
I had heard that Cora was coming back very soon, I’m excited to see her again to say the least. I had been worried about her ever since she went on her own to find her brother of whom we all thought died in the fire like the rest of her family. I remember that day years ago, we were planning to visit the Hale pack because their alpha, Talia wants to know how we ran things so well in our town. When we got to the Hale house there were firefighters putting out the massive fire. I remember my mother calling my name as I got out to see if there were any survivors. She was worried that who’d ever set the fire was still out there.
“Riley we have to go, who ever did this might still be out here” She had told me.
“There might be survivors mom, we have to look” I said ignoring her. Traveling into the woods I followed a scent that I had caught. I remember the rate at which my heart sped up as I saw a little girl covered in burns on the woods ground.
“Help” She struggled to get out. I ran up to her and knelt down next to her.
“Shhhh I’m here to help” I told her. I grabbed her hand and started to take her pain away once she was finally able to pass out I carried her back to the car. Sebastian will be able to treat her better back at home, while I could start the healing on the way, but I’d rather do it when my life won’t be at risk. I was happy to see that my mother was also looking for survivors.
“Anyone?” I asked her once I got the girl into the car.
“No firefighter said there was no survivors” She told me. “Come on you can heal her on the way”
***********************
So I have a ability that most other werewolves don’t have. Regular werewolves have the ability to take away someone’s pain. I can take more. See my grandma is one of the very first werewolves, and she’s still alive, in fact, she’s the alpha of our pack and one of the oldest werewolves. She may not be the strongest anymore but she sure is wise. The very first werewolves had extraordinary abilities that evolution unfortunately got rid of. Healing was one of them, my mother can’t do it but I can. The only down side is the fact that it takes a lot out of me. The amount of burns that covered that little girls body at the time, healing her would put me out of commission for about a week.
That little girls name was Cora Hale. Since then we’ve basically became sisters. I helped teach her control during her shifts and had been somewhat of a mentor to her. About around the time she had left we got word of a newly emerged alpha, when I heard the name Hale I had told Cora right away that someone else from the fire might have survived and she was eager to find them. I went with her to find him but we were ambushed. I was knocked out and when I had woken up I was locked in a cellar of sorts and I couldn’t get out. It took a week for my pack to find me but Cora was missing.
After a couple days of trying to search for her she called me and said she was safe with her brother and she would keep me updated.
“And you’re safe?” I asked her.
“Yeah I promise, I’ll call you later okay?” She said.
“What about the alpha, were we right?” I asked her curiously.
“Yeah, it was my older brother, he’s alive” She said. “I gotta go”
I couldn’t get much more information out of her. I knew something must have happened, she did call me a couple more times explaining about how the alpha pack had took her and wanted her brother to kill her and his other pack members, of course she told me everything after it had already been dealt with. She said she didn’t tell me because she didn’t want me to get involved, which I would have. Our last phone call she told me her and her brother Derek were coming up. She said he wanted to meet and thank us.
************************
Today Cora was coming home, whether or not she was staying though wasn’t up to me. As much as I hoped she woulds, her brother is alive now, she may want to live with him.
I was doing what I normally do. Training. Being the granddaughter of the alpha, and the daughter of the next alpha, training is basically a 24 seven thing. Fighting, shifting, and dealing with town issues is basically second nature to me on top of working at the school where I am a counselor, it’s a nice job, but the only reason I have it is to keep on eye on the young beta’s of the pack.
I was kicking Joshua’s ass in the fighting ring. “Alright, alright I tap out damn” He told me when I had pinned him to the floor. “So the student becomes the master” He said. I smiled at him and helped him up.
“Is he Riley?” I heard an unfamiliar voice ask.
“No, Riley is a she and that’s her” I heard Cora answer. I looked up at her voice and smiled.
“Cora!” I yelled and then grunted when Joshua took my feet out from underneath me. “Cheater”
I got out of the ring and ran up to her and engulfed her in a hug. “Hey Riley” She whispered. “You stink” She said. I rolled my eyes and stepped away from her. I looked to the man to her right and smiled at him. He had black hair and green eyes. You could tell the two were related. He was handsome I’ll give him that.
“You must be Derek” I said extending my hand for him to shake. “I’m Riley”
He took my hand firmly and shook it. “You’re the one who found my sister after the fire?” He asked me.
“Yeah” I said softly. His eyes softened and he gave me a slight smile, which is something I don’t think he does very often. Realizing our hands were still connected I took it away. “Listen let me clean up and I’ll meet you guys at dinner. My grandmother would love to meet you. Until then you two check the place out” I said walking away.
************************
I was helping my mother bring the food out to the table. We have probably thirty wolves in the compound but they have their own cooks for those who choose not to cook them selves. We always eat as a family up here, my grandma, my mother, my brother and me along usually with Cora, sometimes we invite guests, like today since Derek is eating with us. I set the rolls down on the table across from my grandma.
“Hey” She whispers at me signaling for me to come closer. I got close to her and she waved me closer to where my ear was to her mouth. “Did you see the ass on that Hale”
“Grandma” I shunned and shook my head. This isn’t unusual of my grandmother. “Whispering is pointless we are all wolves here”
“Oh I know” She told me I chuckled and went to get the last of the food.
Everyone had their food and we were all eating. “Derek, if we knew about you sooner we would have brought Cora to you as soon as we could. We thought she was the only survivor”
“It’s no problem, besides it seems like she was in good hands here” He said.
“Ah yes, Cora wasn’t the first stray we took in and most definitely won’t be the last. You’re welcome to stay for as long as you need” My mother said.
“Thanks” Derek replied.
“Is Beacon Hills as crazy as it’s always been?” My grandma asked.
“Worse” Cora replied.
“I swear that town is cursed. When we came to visit your mother wanted to discuss about how to handle it, especially since the nematon still had some juice. Our town here is all supernatural and we all coexist with eachother” My grandma stated.
“How does that work?” Derek asked.
“Our town is made up of five different creatures we have wendigos, kitsune’s, werecoyote’s and of course werewolves, then the humans. They all have their own side of the town.” I replied “If one steps out of line we handle it, and if we can’t” I said looking to my mother.
“We get the hunters involved. We’ve had an agreement with the hunters in our area for hundreds of years, if we can’t handle the situation then they can handle it” My mother finished for me.
“And they agreed?” Derek asked shocked.
“After a lot of persuasion yes” My grandma said “Unfortunately not all hunters are as negotiable as ours like the Argents, and the Calaveras, those crazy bastards” My grandma stated.
“It’s peaceful here” Cora told her brother. “You deserve a break from Beacon Hills, I’m sure Scott can handle it”
“He’s still just a kid” Derek replied.
“Must be a special kid” I said taking a bite of my food. “For him to be a true alpha”
“Yeah but he’s still learning” Derek said. “I can still teach him a few things”
“Our door is always open” My mother told him.
*****************
The next morning my mother had sent someone to say to meet her and my grandma. Once I got up there they had told me that there was a murder in the woods last night. By the photos they showed me it looked to be an animal attack, except we all know it’s not, a werewolf or a werecoyote most likely.
“I’ll talk to the neighboring packs and see if they have any out of control betas” I stated.
“You should bring someone with you” My mother said.
“It’s fine I can go alone” I stated.
“I’ll go with her” I new voice said, a voice belonging to Cora. We all looked up at her and her brother standing next to her. I smiled remembering how nosy she was.
“You just got back” I stated.
“There’s nothing to do anyway” She stated. I shook my head and followed her out. I noticed her brother following too.
“Okay I don’t need the both of you, In fact I don’t need either of you” I said.
“Oh come one, we can show Derek the town along the way” She said. I let out a breath and looked up at Derek.
“Think you can handle an out of control werewolf?” I joked.
“It’s second nature” He stated.
**********************
After talking to the surrounding packs no one has recently turned anyone or had anyone missing last night. “It doesn’t even make sense, last night wasn’t even a full moon” I stated.
“Let me see the picture again” Derek asked. I handed him the picture and he studied it. “It doesn’t look like it was done in a frenzy maybe out of defense” I walked to his side and saw what he was talking about. A werewolf in a frenzy wouldn’t leave just one set of claw marks on their victim, they would be mauled.
“He’s definitely not a hunter” I stated. “If it wasn’t a werewolf then maybe a werecoyote.”
“What about an omega, a wolf without a pack?” Cora asked.
I shook my head. “When an Omega passes through town they usually try and find us, we haven’t taken in anyone new, and we would have seen them by now surely”
“Maybe try to catch a scent?” Derek asked.
*****************
We were tracking down the scent in the woods. “Still trying to get used to being a beta again?” I asked Derek seeing as he was visibly struggling with keeping the scent.
“Yeah, kinda a drastic change” He stated.
“Well it was brave what you did, not very many people would give up being an alpha, especially when someone is trying to kill you”
“I did it for her” Derek said looking at Cora who was ahead of us. “She said you have an ability to heal? I’ve never heard of anyone able to do it”
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m the last one. My grandma was one of the very first werewolves, and it was said that they had that ability on top of other things. My mother didn’t have the ability but somehow I did.”
“How do you do it?” He asked me.
“Like taking away pain just a little more. Takes a lot out of me, I was out for probably a week after I healed Cora. Even then she still wasn’t a hundred percent. Must be nice, seeing her after all those years”
“She said I was a disappointment” He stated.
“Sounds like her” I laughed. “She hated me too, she was honestly kinda scary”
“I can hear you too” Cora said loudly. “I don’t hate either of you anymore”
“Good to know” Derek said.
“This is taking too long the scent in fading. I can track better if I shift” I stated going behind a tree and started to take my clothes off.
“So shift” Derek said confused.
“About the ability to heal, the first werewolves had another ability to fully shift into a wolf, I got that too” I said as I felt my back start to shift the cracking and breaking of my bones being heard. “Ah!” I yelled as more of my bones broke and morphed. Once I was fully shifted I followed the now clear scent.
“Pretty cool isn’t she?” I heard Cora say to Derek before I was out of earshot.
********************
I shifted back and grabbed one of the cheap dresses I keep buried just in case I ever need to shift and I rip my clothes doing so. I’m hoping Cora remembered to bring my outfit I changed out of.
“Coyote den” I stated as the two caught up with me. “Time to talk to the coyote’s”
Out of all the creatures in this town the coyote’s are probably our closest ally. They respect our authority unlike the wendigos who are mad at us for not letting them eat living humans, instead they have to settle for the already dead.
“So are there any humans in this town?” Derek asked.
“They are all on the other side of town, most the humans kinda know to stay out of this side, call it a gut feeling” I stated.
“Does this type of thing happen a lot?” He said gesturing to the attack.
“Rarely, but it happens. Out of control omega, wendigos especially. Never really had a problem with kitsunes” I stated.
“Aren’t they tricksters?” Cora asked.
“The dark ones are, it’s their mission to cause all the chaos, strife, and pain they can so that they can get stronger, they can even possess someone, we’ve never dealt with one, and hopefully we don’t” I stated.
“Kanima’s?” Derek asked.
“Just one, but we got it under control before it could find a master. Just a kid.” I stated remembering what was done.
“You couldn’t save him?” Derek asked me.
“We tried, we couldn’t get to her, the hunters eventually intervened. That’s why I was impressed about Jackson” I stated remembering how Derek talked about the Kanima at dinner.
********************
After talking to the coyote’s we found out it was a sixteen year old girl who had gone missing about a year ago, ran off with her boyfriend. She had gone along with it but when he had tried to hurt her she defended herself. She was in control, but she was scared so she hid out in the woods until her sister found her.
“Please don’t send me to the hunters” Charlotte, the kidnapped girl said.
“Show me your eyes” I told her. When she did they were a golden color, a color that means she didn’t take an innocent life.
“We’ll talk to them, they are pretty lenient when it comes to self defense, but Charlotte, that wasn’t very smart, especially when you’re still learning control” I stated.
“I didn’t think he was going to hurt me” She told me.
“It usually happens when you least expect it” I told her. I looked at her mother “I’ll keep you updated”
“So what now?” Cora asked as we were walking back.
“My mother will talk with the hunters” I said. “Try to convince them it was self defense.”
“What if she can’t?” Derek asked. “She’s sixteen”
“I know! If they don’t agree then I’ll think of something” I stated.
********************
Derek and I were waiting patiently for my mother to finish talking to the hunters. Cora had decided to go to bed. I let out a sigh of relief when I heard that they will let this one slide but if it happens again then they would have to step in.
“Thank God” I whispered in relief.
“That was easy” Derek said both relieved and confused. I looked at his questionably “Something like this in Beacon Hills wouldn’t have ended so soon”
“Are you gonna go back?” I asked him.
“I honestly don’t know. I don’t like the idea of leaving Scott alone to be the alpha, with the nematon having it’s power back that town won’t ever be safe” He told me. “I just wish I could ask my mother for advice, she would know what to do”
“What if you can” I told him.
“What are you talking about?” He asked curiously.
“Here follow me” I told him as I lead him into the study, a door that can only be opened by my family. “I know it’s a little morbid, but my father died years ago from a werewolf wanting his power, my father won but the wolf that wanted his power poisoned him in case he lost” I said as I grabbed the jar that held his claws pouring them on the table. “My mother spoke with him with these”
“Spoke with him?” Derek asked.
“An alpha’s claws are very powerful and there’s a ritual you can perform to talk with the person of who’s claws they are.” I told him. “But you can only do it once”
“Well there’s one problem” Derek said looking at me “My mother died in the fire”
“Talia from the stories I’ve heard was a very powerful alpha, her claws wouldn’t wouldn’t be something that would just burn away in a fire” I told him.
“Even if they didn’t I wouldn’t know where they would be” He told me.
“There’s a hunting family based in mexico called the Calavera’s if your mothers claws survived the fire and were found they would have it.” I told him.
“How do you know that?” He asked me.
“Because they had my fathers, it was like they had a collection of powerful alpha claws, and I think your mother might of been one of them” I told him.
After I had explained how the ritual worked I walked Derek out of the study. We were in the door way. “Thank you” He suddenly said. I looked up at him. “you’re welcome”
“Not just for this but for Cora too. This is the only place I would feel comfortable leaving her with and she wouldn’t shut up about you on the car ride here” He said.
“I’m nothing special” I stated.
“No you are, you can not only heal other’s but you can shift into a full wolf. You’re special” Derek told me. “I understand why she didn’t shut up about you”
I smiled and broke eye contact with him closing the door behind me. “If you do plan on going the Calaveras you shouldn’t go alone. They’re pretty dangerous. I can go with you” I told him.
“No, you should stay here, plus I have someone in mind who will help me” He said.
**************************
Derek stayed for about another week then decided to leave to find his mother’s claws. He had said bye to his sister already and walked up to me to say goodbye.
“Thank you again” He told me.
“Stay safe out there” I told him. “Will you be coming back?” I asked trying not to sound hopeful.
Derek let out a breath and looked at me “Maybe”
“I’ll take care of her” I told him
What Derek did next shocked me. He wrapped his arms around me and held me tight as I slowly hugged him back. “I know you will” He whispered then let go and walked out into the darkness

x Tik tok imagine
Tumblr media
[Hear me out! I like the tik tok roleplay groups and povs so I had an idea]
x You are a rather popular tik tok user who is known for you creative take on Greek mythology reenactments. Everyone loves how you bring [fav god/dess] to a live with a modern twist. You’ve even joined a well established RP group with all the gods.
x In the group is another user (f/o) who you’ve only had the chance to dm once and they seem cool enough for you to duet them. They had a romantic video of their character confessing their love and you though it be cute.
x After that it seemed the fan base went crazy with shipping you two together and it opened up a chance for you to finally talk to (f/o) more.
x After a while it became clear you two are tiktik married with how many videos you had together dueted. For you however you started to fall in love with them.
x When it came for a tik tok meet up in a neighboring state you deicide you really want to go and finally meet your tik tok family.
x The day of the meet up you meet “Zeus” and “Hera” and slowly but surely the rest of the cast showed up, bt when it came time to meet (f/o) you couldn’t find them what so ever.
x You try not to think too much of it, maybe they couldn’t come or maybe they got caught in something. You enjoyed yourself either way but you really wish they would have came.
x “Zeus” invites everyone out to eat, their treat, you couldn’t pass up free food so you all get along to the restaurant. As you find a seat and sit down you feel someone come up behind you.
“(Insert your character name) may I have this seat?” You turn to say they may but when you see (f/o) face you can’t help but become speechless. They smile and pull you into a hug telling you how excited they were to finally meet you in person.  “You’re even better to look at in person.” they tell you and your heart flips.
x By the end of the dinner you and (f/o) can’t stop looking at each other. Finally (f/o) pulls you to the side from the rest of the group. They confess they’re feelings and try to keep cool in case you rejected them. Of curse you don’t and then they ask if they could finally kiss you.
x That kiss was fucking amazing.

I think I’ve fallen for you.
I worked so hard on this and I know you guys will love it:)) Let me know what you think!
Summary: Like every boy/girl best friend story Shawn and Y/n finally admit their bottled up feelings. Wether they want to stay best friends is up to them.
Warnings: Fluff:)))
Word Count: 1.5k
_____________________________
Y/N pov:
We are best friends, have been for quite a while now. I believe it was the 6th of June, we were 12 when I had just moved to Pickering Ontario. He lived down the street and his mom, wanting to be a good neighbor, welcomed us by dropping off a house warming gift. Shawn stood beside her, long hair and braces, he was adorable. I Invited him in and asked him if he wanted to hangout, maybe play some video games or stay for dinner. He said yes. Long story short we’ve been best friends ever since.
Present:
We’re sitting in his basement snuggled under a blanket watching Harry Potter probably for the thousandth time. Except he’s not watching the movie, I can feel his eyes on me. I try to stay focused but it’s hard when his eyes are burning a hole in the side of my face. I turn to catch his gaze but he already looked away, eyes drawn back to the movie. Now it’s my turn to burn a hole. He may be a kid at heart but there’s no doubt that he’s grown up. He’s definitely not the 12 year old boy with long hair and braces anymore. He’s tall, slim and muscular. His face is defined, framed by dark tousled curls. He’s looking at me again and when his gorgeous chocolate eyes met mine, he blushed then smiled and all I could think was ‘oh shit.’
Shawn’s Pov:
Y/n. There’s no way to deny how indescribably perfect she is. Sitting here snuggled up with her, it’s hard to dismiss my feelings that I’ve learned to control over the years. She’s certainly not the 12 year old girl I once knew. She’s changed in ways that are hard for me to outline. Of course there are the obvious reasons, she has altered into this stunning, gentle, amazing woman. Her body is a wonderland, curves that are perfectly shaped and--if I say too much I know I’ll just get myself way too excited. What I’m trying to say is that, I can’t help but admire her.
She’s adorable in the girl-next-door type of way, sitting there with her hair tied up and her sweats on.
Tonight when I looked at her, I could feel it. I didn’t know what it was or why, but it was like drinking hot cocoa after playing in the snow for hours and the warmth just fills your body. It was the kind of energy that circulated through my veins and took my breath away. I could feel myself blush from having all types of emotions running luxuriant against my skin. It was exhilarating and terrifying. And that’s when it hit me, tonight I looked at her and thought, ‘Ahhh, so this is how love is supposed to feel.’ In that moment, there wasn’t one person in the world that I wanted more than I wanted Y/n. She didn’t need to know that though, I thought, not now anyways. My feelings can wait, because what if she doesn’t feel the same way and I’m just living in some fantasy world where she loves me back. It broke my heart to think about it, so I escaped my head, ignored my feelings and refocused my thoughts back on the movie I knew so well.
It was late, around midnight maybe and the movie had just finished. To my disappointment this meant that our night was over and Y/n would return home. Her voice was soft and tired as she spoke her goodbyes,
“I should probably head out, it's getting late.”
I chuckled, “yea-yeah probably.” She smiled, got up and placed the now folded blanket on the couch. She started walking towards the stairs and I could feel her slipping away, like this was my only chance to tell her how I felt. She was about to say something but I was quick to talk.
“Listen, you said you’re going to leave and you’re about to say goodbye but I don’t want you to go and if I don’t say something now I’m afraid I never will. so here goes nothing,”
She was stopped now, eyes boring into mine as she waited to hear what I had to say. That’s when nervous words started spilling from my mouth and unsaid feelings were thrown into the air.
“I don’t know where I stand with you. And I don’t know what I mean to you. All I know is every time I think of you, I want to be with you. I didn’t want to fall in love, not at all but at some point you smiled and holy shit I blew it.” My heart was pounding and I paused for a minute letting her process my words.
“Y/n, I’m scared as hell to want you. But here I am, wanting you anyway.”
I watched as she stood there staring at me but I couldn’t quite make out the expression on her face.
“So is this the part where I told you I like you and now I’m shy so I say ‘never mind, forget it’ and- why are you staring at me like that?” I stopped talking to try and read her eyes, they were filled with desire, want and what was perhaps relief? She inched her way towards me, slowly building the tension. Doubt filled my mind as I awaited her response, what if she was about to tell me how ridiculous I was acting and that I should stop being so stupid. But then the words I’ve waited so long to hear suddenly escaped her mouth,
“Kiss the hell out of me. Please.”
“Wha-” But she was eager and impatient and then her lips were on my lips kissing me and jesus christ it was the best feeling in the world. It’s no lie that I’ve kissed other girls but not like this, not with so much desire and emotion. I swear to god I felt my heart skip a beat. We pulled away but her touch lingered, and I already missed the way her lips felt on mine. I wanted to stay here all night and kiss her over and over and over again.
Y/n’s Pov:
I stood there listening as he poured his heart out. At first I was hurt and confused, why the hell did it take him this long to tell me how he feels. Then I was angry at myself, after all it is a 2-way road and I could’ve just as easily told him how I felt. Then when he told me he loved me, turns out that’s all I needed to hear to know that this is what my heart has been waiting for all this time. My past relationships I felt empty, like I was pretending to create a spark with someone who I would never truly find love with. And finally it made sense because after all this time it was Shawn, it always has been and it always will be.
“-and why are you looking at me like that?” Truth is Shawn, I’m looking at you like that because you’re everything I need, everything I want. And it occured to me that ever since I met you that hasn’t changed, I am totally completely eye popping seriously groundbreaking passionately deliciously in love with you. So without warning, without permission, without even deciding to do it, I kissed him. Because he deserved it and I deserved and it was the most certain thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. And when we kissed I could’ve sworn my soul whispered ‘Oh there you are. I’ve been looking for you.’ and his just whispered back ‘Welcome home.’
When we pulled apart I missed him but his touch remained like burns after a fire. Never in a million years would I have thought that I’d find someone so utterly and completely perfect, someone that would touch my life so profoundly and just give me a whole new reason to breathe. But mostly someone who makes me feel the way Shawn does.
Finally I regained enough to speak,
“That was-” When I spoke I realized I couldn’t find the words to describe how I felt. And before I could finish Shawn just decided to finish for me.
“Crazy.” I just laughed because he was absolutely right. Crazy was the perfect word to describe not only everything that's happened tonight but also how I felt .
“You know you’re totally right because guess what?” He didn’t say anything just tilted his head and listened in question. “I’m crazy for you.” The corners of his mouth tuned up revealing his smile which, of course, just caused me to smile even wider. I have completely fallen for this boy. And standing here in his arms, I realized there’s no place I’d rather be than right here with him.
“Not to brag, but I think we’re gonna be really cute together.” Although his tone was filled with sarcasm, I could tell he was being serious and I couldn’t agree more.

Paint You Wings ~ Ethan Dolan {Part Two}
Ethan’s POV
"Ethan, answer your damn phone!" Grayson demanded from the driver's seat. I rolled my eyes and pulled the device out of the cup holder.
I didn't recognize the number, but still answered it. "Hello?"
"Um, hey, is this Ethan?" It was a girl. What girl? I wasn't sure.
"Who is this?"
"It's Averly. This number was on a sticky-note on my door."
And just like that, I couldn't breathe. It was like my throat closed up and I was stuck underwater. Averly was freaking hot. But not just that. She was a creator. An artist. A good one, too, if her work was gonna have a shot at being in a fancy gallery.
I swallowed a breath. "Averly! Hey, yeah this is Ethan. What's up?" I laughed awkwardly and looked over at Grayson. He rolled his eyes and shook his head.
Averly sighed. "Well, not a lot really. You?"
I shook my head, even though she couldn't see me. "Just running some errands with Grayson. Say hi, Gray!" I put the phone on speaker.
"Dude, I don't know her." Grayson shook his head and laughed.
I rolled my eyes. "Averly, you're on speaker with me and my brother, Grayson. Grayson, this is Averly. She's our neighbor." I quickly introduced the two.
"Hi, Grayson! Nice to meet you!" Averly laughed.
"Yeah, you too Averly." Grayson smiled and shook his head.
"So, Averly, Grayson and I were talking, and we think it would be really cool to look at some of your art."
Grayson looked over at me and raised an eyebrow. I held one finger to my lips and winked at him. He rolled his eyes and looked back at the road.
Averly took a deep breath. "I don't know, none of my pieces are, like, earth-shatteringly remarkable."
"Oh, come on! You had a meeting with someone from Art Pour L'áme! Of course they're good!" I laughed. "By the way, how'd that go?"
"Not as well as planned, but nothing to cry over. And fine, I guess I can show you guys a few pieces."
I smiled. "Great! We'll be back to the apartments in, I don't know, an hour? Hour and a half maybe? Whatever, I'll text you when we're kinda close so you can have the art stuff ready."
"Okay. See you later, Ethan." Averly hung up.
Grayson looked over at me and raised an eyebrow. "Dude. You're not interested in her art." He shook his head slowly.
I stared at him for a minute. "Of course I am. Why else would I-"
"Because you want to bang her, Ethan!" Grayson said it like I was stupid.
My jaw dropped. He was freaking crazy if he thought that I wanted Averly. I mean, yeah, she was hot. And really cool. And a freaking artist. Good Lord, I wanted her. But not in a lustful sense!
"What? No, I met her, like, nine hours ago." I shook my head and laughed.
Grayson rolled his eyes. "You've screwed on less."
I groaned. "Shut up. That was one time. Let's just finish running errands so we can get back to the apartments and look at her art." I punched his shoulder and looked out the window. I was excited to see her art work, whether Grayson had lost all faith in me or not.
We stopped by the grocery store and got some stuff for an upcoming video, then went and filled Gray's car up with gas. Once we were getting close to the apartments, I texted Averly.
New iMessage to: Averly
Hey! We're like five minutes away... Gray and I are both reeeeeaaaally excited!
Her response didn't take long. I was glad that she wasn't one of those girls that feels the need to wait three minutes before she even opened the message.
iMessage from: Averly:
Okay! I'll have a few pieces ready to show you :)
Once we got back to the apartment, Gray and I put up the groceries, then walked to Averly's door and knocked. She was still wearing the purple dress from this morning, but no shoes and her hair was in a curly ponytail. She looked really pretty, despite already having a long day.
"Hey Ethan, and Guy Who Looks Suspiciously Like Ethan." She narrowed her eyes and kept looking back and forth between us.
Grayson and I laughed. "I forgot to tell you that we're twins."
She smiled, then led us inside. There were twelve easels set up in the room with different sizes of canvases. "Um, so this one is entitled 'The Governing'," she pointed at a small canvas with an American flag background and two chess kings - one black and one white.
"Whoa," Grayson got a closer look. "That's freaking cool."
Averly laughed, then showed us the next one. "This one is called 'The Jump', and it is actually a mixed-media piece. Partial charcoal, partial oil pastel."
This one was amazing. On the left, there was a lion preparing to jump on a hunter, who was standing on the right, guns ready. The lion was in pastel and the hunter in charcoal, and where they blurred together was a masterpiece.
"Averly, this is. . . I don't even know. I'm. . . Wow." I wandered around the room, looking at all of the pieces. They inflicted so many emotions and feelings. I was entranced.
"I'm glad you like them." She leaned against the wall and watched as Grayson and I gawked over her work.
"What was decided in the meeting?" I asked as I examined an abstract piece that made me think of two people on opposite sides of a canyon, or a crack in the earth.
Averly sighed. "I have a month to create another piece, and if Mr. Clifton feels like it's good enough, it's going in the gallery."
Grayson and I both stared at her. "That's so cool!" Grayson praised. Averly laughed and shook her head.
"Nothing to celebrate yet." She shrugged. Grayson and I scoffed.
We didn't know much at that exact moment, but we knew that you can literally celebrate for anything if you really want to. "Dude, yes it is. Y'know what? I'm gonna cook a fancy dinner for us all tonight to prove you wrong! If you have family or close friends in town, invite them, too!" Grayson decided in a split second.
Averly shook her head again. "It's just me. I don't really know anyone out here yet, and all of my family is in Dallas." She shrugged.
"Well, then it's official. Ethan and I are your new friends, and if you deem it acceptable, your family as well." Grayson bowed at her.
She looked at us like we were freaks, but smiled all the same. I walked over to her and slung my arm around her shoulders. "Yeah. And since we're all friends now, it doesn't matter how messy our apartment is for dinner, right?" I joked.
She shook her head and laughed. "Not at all."
We hung out at her place for a few hours, then Grayson went back to ours to start on dinner. Averly went into more detail on her art and the inspiration, then told me more about the meeting. Within an hour, I felt like I'd known her my whole life. She suddenly went from the hot neighbor with the cool paintings to the amazing girl that I wish I knew sooner. There was something compelling about her. Her attitude, maybe. Or the way she didn't seem to give a damn about anyone's expectations. She was absolutely amazing.
We were sitting on the couch, completely facing each other, but not saying anything. The air in the room was thick and I felt like one wrong move could set the entire place on fire.
I cleared my throat and sat forward slowly. "Um, will you excuse me? I'll be right back. Like, seriously, right back." I stood up and sprinted to the door, then slammed it open and went back to Gray's and my apartment.
"Bro, what are you-"
"I swear, I'm about to sound like Ted Freaking Mosby, but I think I might be falling for Averly."
Grayson dropped a glass on the floor, then rushed to get the broom. "Sweep this up, I have to watch the rolls." He shoved it at me, then knelt down by the oven. "Falling for her? Ethan, are you crazy? You met her at three AM!"
I rolled my eyes and started sweeping up the glass. "You think I don't know that, Grayson? I feel all weird and gooey. I don't. . . I don't know, I've never felt this way. Especially this quickly." I shook my head.
Grayson stood up and smacked the side of my head. "Give yourself some time before you talk to her about this, if you do, because - if you don't recall - Ted Mosby didn't end up with Robin Scherbatsky. You know why?"
I stared at him for a second. "Because they wanted different-"
"No, Ethan! Not because they wanted different things! Because Ted told Robin that he loved her on the first date! You're not even that far along!" He said it like it was the simplest thing in the world.
"Gray, they didn't even break up until a long time after that!"
Grayson threw a spoon at me. A freaking spoon.
"Shut up, you'll disturb the rolls."
I scoffed, then finished sweeping up the glass. "I'm gonna go back to her apartment so she doesn't think I completely ditched her."
"Tell her to come over here, everything's almost done." Grayson put his hands around his eyes and looked into the oven.
I walked back to Averly's apartment, then we went back to mine and Gray's. He had already set out the plates, so we all just sat down and started eating.
"This is seriously amazing." Averly pointed at her plate.
Grayson smiled so wide I thought his cheeks were gonna rip. He got out of his chair and down onto one knee, then grabbed Averly's hand. "Marry me."
We all laughed awkwardly, but kept eating and making random conversation. I could have listened to Averly talk about art for hours - hell, I wanted to - but around eight, we bade her farewell.
"I'll see you guys later." She smiled at us as she walked out of the apartment.
Grayson and I plopped down onto the couch. "I'm freaking stupid, dude." I groaned and threw my head back.
He laughed. "Yeah, I know."

Anonymous me again about Adam & Mercy. Why not an Adam's POV story about his growing feelings for his neighbor Mercy. I also have in mind a story with Jesse sneaking into her dad's affair and pushing him to invite Mercy on a date or something? ;)
OMG YES! I do love Jesse and I can’t imagine she wouldn’t try and meddle a little. Hope this is what you were looking for!
Meddling Kids!
Seriously, what was it with men? Jesse was all of seventeen and knew exactly why Mercymade that put-upon sigh sometimes when she encountered her dad in a stubbornmood. In fact, he’d even called her out on sounding like Mercy when she madethe same noise.
Butreally! Anyone with eyes knew thather dad had a thing for Mercy. A serious thing. She wasn’t going to call it ahard-on or a crush like her friend Izzy because this was her dad andhe was an alpha werewolf, not a teenage boy. Even if he had the guts of one sometimes.
Atthis point half the pack was suffering because of the UST between Mercy and herdad, even complaining about it where Jesse could hear (which meant her dad wasat Mercy’s trailer yelling/flirting with her, otherwise he’d blow a gasket).Something had to be done. And if none of the pack would do it, and Mercy wastoo oblivious to, then it was up to Jesse.
“Mercyspeaking.”
“HeyMercy, it’s Jesse.”
“Ohhey Jesse, what’s up? I didn’t recognize the number.”
“I’mat a friend’s house. Can you check on dad? I’ve been calling him to get mebut he hasn’t picked up, and neither has Darryl. My phone’s fritzing, otherwiseI’d call someone else…”
“Sure,no problem.” Mercy hung up and frowned at her phone. She supposed her numberwas in the phonebook, and that’s how Jesse had found it, but she was stillsurprised to get the call. Then again, Adam was right over her back fence.
Sheheaded outside and patted the junk Rabbit in her backyard with more affectionthan she gave most things, before hopping the fence into Adam’s backyard. Shesniffed cautiously as she approached the house, but there were no ominous scentsor sounds and no signs of fighting or anything amiss. After all her recentencounters though, Mercy wasn’t going to assume anything. If Adam wasn’t dotingon Jesse then she knew something was wrong.
Shedidn’t beeline for the door but cautiously peered through the back windows, buteverything looked normal inside. She tried the back door and found it unlocked,so she stepped into the kitchen.
“Mercy?”Adam called from upstairs within moments of her entrance. She was surprised tofind that he could recognize her from just a few steps and the sound of herbreathing.
“Adam?”
Hecame down the stairs at a jog, staring at her expectedly. “What’s wrong?Did something happen?” He appraised her in a quick glance that despite being entirelyperfunctory still made Mercy’s stomach do a funny flip. Did he have to be sostupidly pretty?
“Jessecalled. Said you weren’t answering your phone.”
Adamfrowned and pulled out his cell from his back pocket. Whatever it told himseemed to surprise him. “I don’t have any missed calls.”
“Huh.She seemed to think something was going on, since she couldn't reachDarryl either.”
Adamcalled his second immediately and Darryl picked up on the firstring. “What’s happening?”
“Phonecheck,” Adam said shortly. He hung up and looked at Mercy. She looked back athim perplexed.
“Well, guess I’ll, uh, go back to my trailer. You should pick up Jesse and find outwhat happened with her.” It came out a bit awkward, and Mercy backed out of thehouse scratching her head. What was that about?
Okay,so giving her dad opportunities to talk alone with Mercy weren’t working.Obviously it wasn’t the pack that was stopping him, it was himself. Ifwerewolves could get drunk she would have tried that, but she wasn’t sure whatwould be worse: out of control wolves or how pissed her dad would be.
Inthe absence of liquid courage, Jesse opted for the next best thing: her owncourage.
“Dad,you should talk to Mercy.”
“Aboutwhat?” he asked, looking confusedly up at her from his desk. He was hunchedover the monthly budget and fretting still over how Peter had gotten a blackeye in a fender bender that morning.
“Youknow what about! Invite her over for dinner. Talk to her.”
“She’salways welcome,” he said, quirking his eyebrow at her. “And you know shewouldn’t mind if you dropped by her. She likes you.”
“Yes,and she likes you,” Jesse replied, putting her hands on her hips.
Herdad snorted. “Sure, coyotes and wolves.” He shook his head, dismissing herthoughts.
“I’llget Samuel out of the house for you.”
Hishead jerked back up before he caught himself. Her dad never quite realized howhis control slipped around his only daughter and how irritated he was thatSamuel lived with Mercy.
“I’llget Samuel out of the house,” she repeated. “Shouldn’t be hard. A littlegirl talk, request for privacy…”
Hemade one of those wincing faces that scrunched up his nose. Her mother had goneon about the wrinkles it would cause when Jesse did the exact same thing, butshe didn’t care. “Mercy will listen, I’m sure, but Samuel’s not importantin this.”
“WhenI come home from her place ‘upset’,” Jesse put air quotes around that, “goto Mercy’s and talk to her. Get her to open up. You know you can do it.”
Forjust a moment Jesse thought her father had caught on, and then she realized he had and wasn’t happy.
“Jesse,I don’t—” he ran his hand through his hair in frustration. “I appreciateyour concern and what you’re trying to do, but when I called Mercy my matebefore the pack it was a matter of her protection, not a, a—”
“Maybenot then but now, sure. She’d be open to it, I swear.”
“Ifshe’d told you that then she’d kill you for telling me,” he pointed out, andJesse’s mouth clicked shut because, yeah, she wasn’t a snitch. If Mercy hadmade her promise to keep her crush on her dad a secret she would have. ButMercy hadn’t and that was the whole point. Jesse got anearful—and even an eyeful sometimes—of what her mom got up to, while he dad playedthe monk and busied with the pack rather than himself. Mercy was tough, independent, but she knew how to reach out when she needed it. She’d called herdad before when she needed back up, didn’t hesitate to call him out when he didsomething wrong, and was still nice tothe frustrating pack alpha’s daughter who she owed nothing to.
God,maybe Jesse should talk to her instead. Mercy was as stubborn as her dadthough, and might not listen to a teenager’s opinion. Then again, her dad hadn’teither.
Jessewent back to her room and thought about how her dad refused to push Mercy intoanything, somehow managing to be the only person on the planet blind to how Mercyfelt about him. She thought about Mercy too, and why she didn’t press her dadmore, perhaps out of fear of repeating the damage her mom had done, or out of aweird respect for the pack and the wolves. Either way, Jesse needed to make itclear to both parties that 1) the flirting and gooey eyes at each other whenall the wolves were out of the room had to stop, because everyone was tired ofit, and 2) coyote, werewolf, pack, Samuel, whatever, those were just excusesnot to get together.
Before Jesse could find the time to get to Mercy’s, kick Samuelout, and try to talk some sense into the walker, some crazy water fae attackedthe house and Mercy in coyote form came careening though the brush, throwing awrench into all her plans. Hurt, chased by a crazy, slimy horse monster, Mercy hadnever been more beautiful and more awesome at once—to both Hauptmans in thehouse. Just a few days later Jesse’s dad shared the news that Warren would behaving dinner at the house tonight with her: he had a date with Mercy.
