Dorian Dumont - to the APhEX - his second album of Aphex Twin piano covers
This album will delight lovers of sequels, falling buildings, sunken cathedrals, new chapters most of all and parentheses (always).
On this second solo album, pianist Dorian Dumont digs even deeper into the oeuvre of Richard D. James aka Aphex Twin.
All songs are composed by Richard D. James except 'Icct Hedral's Echo', which is a composition by Dorian Dumont.
Altered States (Ken Russell, 1980) X “Polynomial-C” (Aphex Twin, 1992)
Ken Russell’s exploration of a respectable scientist’s obsession with breaking through to other planes of existence through psychedelics & sensory deprivation blends well with Aphex Twin’s hard and dreamy track Polynomial C, named for a mathematical function equally applicable to chemistry, physics, and social sciences. The film is based on experiments by psychonaut John C. Lilly, and (underrated) filmmaker Ken Russell adds his indelibly stylish visuals and Cronenberg-y body horror to make a great cult film, which is expertly made but too weird for the masses.
