The Toxic Avenger Collection will be released on August 29 via Troma. The box set collects all four films in the cult classic superhero horror comedy franchise on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray.
1984's The Toxic Avenger is directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman and written by Joe Ritter. Mitch Cohen, Mark Torgl, Andree Maranda, and Pat Ryan Jr star.
1989's The Toxic Avenger Part II is directed by Herz and Kaufman and written by Gay Partington Terry. Ron Fazio, Phoebe Legere, John Altamura, Rick Collins, Rikiya Yasuoka, Tsutomu Sekine, and Mayako Katsuragi
1989's The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie is written and directed by Herz and Kaufman. Ron Fazio, Phoebe Legere, John Altamura, Rick Collins, Lisa Gaye, Jessica Dublin, and Michael Kaplan star.
2000's Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV is directed by Kaufman from a script he co-wrote with Trent Haaga, Patrick Cassidy, and Gabriel Friedman. David Mattey, Clyde Lewis, Heidi Sjursen, Paul Kyrmse, Joe Fleishaker, Debbie Rochon, and Ron Jeremy star.
The unrated director’s cuts of all four films have been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negatives with HDR as well as English DTS 2.0 Stereo audio. A Toxic Avenger postcard is included. Special features are listed below.

2023 marked the centenary year for audio/radio drama at the BBC. For 100 years of this unique genre, audio drama and comedy have provided enjoyment, diversion, illumination, insight and escape for listeners, evolving in approach and style as audio practitioners have responded to new ideas and technology with ingenuity, imagination and inspiration. These awards celebrate the creativity of actors, writers, directors, producers, musicians, sound designers and all who work in this vibrant art-form.
The winners will be announced on Sunday 24 March 2024 in a ceremony in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House London. The winners of the Imison and Tinniswood Awards (judged and administered by the Society of Authors and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain) will also be announced at this ceremony.

WEEK 7: The Algorithmic Gaze - How Social Media Feeds Promote Sexualization
Social media platforms have become a crucial part of our lives. We scroll down endless feeds with various content which is managed and promoted by invisible algorithms. But what if these algorithms, designed to maximize engagement of sexualization content?

The Start of Sexualization Feedback Loop
Social networking platforms develop on the basis of user engagement (Jha & Verma 2023). Metrics such as likes, shares, and comments act as a form of digital currency, and platform algorithms are continually upgraded to prioritize content that generates them (Tenenboim 2022). This system may motivate the posting of sensitive content to attract the attention and interaction of the public.
McLeod (2024), citing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, identifies sex as a fundamental human physiological need. Given this inherent importance, it is unsurprising that people are attracted to sexual topics. The development of society has demonstrably helped people feel more comfortable to mention sex issues, and social media platforms provide a global connection to discuss widely about these topics. However, it raises concerns about a potential link between the algorithmic engagement and the present oneself in a sexualized manner.

Social Comparison and Self-Objectification in the Digital Age
Festinger's Social Comparison Theory (1954) sheds light on how social media usage influences self-evaluation through comparisons with others. This theory points out that humans have an inherent desire to assess themselves by drawing parallels with others. These comparisons include various aspects, including evaluating our performance in relation to others' abilities and comparing our opinions to theirs. 
Furthermore, research suggests a correlation between increased social media use and self-objectification, particularly among young women (Ward et al. 2023). Fredrickson and Roberts' (1997) Objectification Theory shows that women are often socialized to internalize the observer's perspective as the primary way to view their physical selves. This internalized objectification can manifest in compulsive body monitoring, potentially leading to feelings of guilt and anxiety in women. In addition, it can be the barrier to achieve peak motivation and decrease their awareness of internal bodily signals.  
These two theories claim a compelling framework to understand the growing prevalence of sexualization on social media platforms. On one hand, the human interest in sex promotes the increase of sexual content, leading others to receive these messages and potentially change their behavior to conform to perceived standards. On the other hand, some users recognize the attention-grabbing potential of sexual content and deliberately create controversial content to attract engagement.

Women Pornification on Social Media
Social media platforms have become a stage for a specific kind of performance: the presentation of a sexualized self. Several scholars have pointed out that, for many women, selfies on these platforms are the product of a form of labor that emphasizes their physical attractiveness (Drenten, Gurrieri & Tyler 2019). This trend goes beyond selfies, with research suggesting that women often curate a highly sexualized online persona, conforming to idealized notions of beauty heavily influenced by heteronormative standards (Carrotte, Prichard & Lim 2017).
This emphasis on sexuality frequently aligns with the aesthetics of commercial pornography, with women adopting poses and styles that mirror what is seen in pornographic content (Tyler & Quek, 2016; Lynch 2012; Drenten, Gurrieri & Tyler 2019). Scholars have termed this phenomenon “pornification” (Drenten, Gurrieri & Tyler 2019). This “pornchic” aesthetic caters primarily to a male gaze, reinforcing traditional  heteronormative ideas of beauty and sexual desirability (Drenten, Gurrieri & Tyler 2019).

Breaking the Cycle
Reducing this issue requires a multi-dimensional approach. Social media platforms can prioritize algorithms that promote diversity and positive body image. Schools and parents can educate young people about the curated nature of online content and the potential dangers of social comparison. Furthermore, research suggests that promoting media literacy can empower young people to critically evaluate online content.
Social media offers a valuable platform for connection and expression. By acknowledging the potential for bias within algorithms and promoting media literacy, we can work towards a more positive and inclusive online experience for all users.

Willie Brown
Today on his birthday, we remember a very important figure from the early days of the Delta Blues… Willie Brown.
Willie Brown was a guitar player and vocalist, who played with Son House and Charley Patton, and Robert Johnson. While he would play solo, he was known to enjoy accompanying other musicians like the ones mentioned.
Speaking of Robert Johnson, Willie Brown was mentioned in Robert’s famous song, Crossroad Blues. (Lyric - “my friend Willie Brown".)
In the movie Crossroads, Joe Seneca did an amazing job playing a fictionalized version of the real Willie Brown.
Sadly, Willie Brown passed away in 1952 from heart disease.

Halloween Parody #5 Escape from New York Worked more on the parody today. I inked the background last night after work. This morning, I took it easy and chilled. Around three, I starting drawing the crowd on the left. Drawn George Jefferson, Linnea Quigley from Return of the Living Dead, Robert Prichard, Lauren Heather McMahon from Class of Nukem High Issac Hayes as The Duke and the rest were made up or improvised from references I scrolled across while researching. I always have a selection of comic books to use as inspirational material. A artist by the name of Anthony F. In 1995, The Bodies defeated PG-13 ( JC-Ice & Wolfie D) to capture the USWA Tag Team Championship.

Prichard and Del Ray unsuccessfully challenged for the WWF Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam 1993 and successfully defended the SMW Tag Team Championship against The Rock 'n' Roll Express three months later at Survivor Series 1993. SMW formed a working agreement with the WWF that allowed The Heavenly Bodies to appear on WWF programming. In 1993, SMW's unique cross-promotional deal with the WWF than the WCW allowed The Heavenly Bodies and The Rock 'n' Roll Express to wrestle on the two competitor's pay-per-view shows. They continued their feud with The Rock 'n' Roll Express in these promotions and began new rivalries with The Steiner Brothers ( Rick & Scott Steiner), and The Smoking Gunns ( Bart & Billy Gunn). Over the next few years, the new duo competed not only in SMW but also in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), and United States Wrestling Association (USWA). Later that year, Lane left the team and was replaced by "Gigolo" Jimmy Del Ray. They lost their match to The Rock 'n' Roll Express. A cross-promotional deal with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) allowed The Heavenly Bodies to appear at WCW's SuperBrawl III pay-per-view event on February 21, 1993. Their feuds were often highlighted with hardcore matches and numerous title changes. Managed by Jim Cornette, Prichard and Lane became the first ever SMW Tag Team Champions.ĭuring their tenure in SMW, The Heavenly Bodies had long running feuds with the likes of the new Fantastics ( Bobby Fulton & Jackie Fulton) and The Rock 'n' Roll Express ( Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson). In 1992, veteran wrestlers Tom Prichard and Stan Lane first formed The Heavenly Bodies in Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW).

Well, what a day it was! Great fun with lots of friends. 
Our table was busy all day and Robert Dick and I managed to film some inserts with Keith Jayne for his upcoming Myth Makers release.
Then there was the premiere of DOCTOR ON DISPLAY - LONGLEAT. It was fantastic to see it on the "big screen" and my, my, did it look good! Sophie Aldred's presentation and voiceover were perfection as always.
I did a quick intro to the screening and it was followed by a Q&A with me, David J Howe (Telos Publishing), Bedwyr Gullidge (Author - Doctor Who Exhibitions) and Roger Stevens (Director/Editor).
I even had time to spend with my family ... Harry and Anastasia (it was our wedding anniversary!). Harry and Anastasia manned the Reeltime dealers table  - Harry was doing a sassy hard sell to the Reeltime regulars! That's my boy!

Digital Communities - Body Modification (Week 8 )

Social media acts as a space for people to promote and celebrate each other and spread positivity. This can be done through things such as public health campaigns, which shed light on certain topics, to raise awareness and sometimes money for charities. An example of this is the Movember campaign which occurs every year in the month of November where men grow beards in order to raise money and awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer as well as mental health. However social media can also be linked to “Aesthetic Templates” which are usually linked to digital influencers who promote unhealthy body ideals. Aesthetic templates can be seen across all social media platforms, especially from celebrities and influencers as well as microcelebrities. “Microcelebrity as an online performance involves creating and manipulating an online identity that resembles a branded good…to gain status through visibility” (Marwick 2013; Senft 2012). Visibility on social media has become reliant on tactics that acquire status with an audience one of which is Aesthetic Labour.

Aesthetic labour involves poses, accessories, props or body work which are all used in cohesion in order to embody attributes that will resonate with customers for commercial benefit (Dean, 2005; Witz, Warhurst and Nickson, 2003). Body work can involve a range of behaviours that can change a person’s physical appearance to make them look more feminine, which can be done through posing and editing. An example of body work being used is on the social media pages of that Kardashian’s and the Jenner’s. Kim Kardashian is a perfect example of this as her social media pages are often planned out according to a certain template and aesthetic to promote herself and her brand. Likewise, Instagram is “naturally suited to plastic surgery” (Dorfman, Vaca, Mahmood atl. 2018) which Kim Kardashian also promotes. Similarly, this aesthetic and use of body work can lead into the realm of pornification, where it has been argued that women are presenting a highly sexualised version of [themselves] online (C. Prichard and Lim, 2017). In contrast masculinity is presented as being athletic and dominant. Pornification is also directed at men, but in a different way. All of these aspects can have an impact on public health.
