idk if i ever talked about this but leela’s behavior in “teenage mutant leela’s hurdles” vs her parents’ behavior fascinates me so much. like she immediately jumps to trying to be a Normal Teen Girl because she never had that life, while her parents don’t really understand why she needs that and barely give her any restrictions. 

and it’s funny, but it also kind of makes you realize that the way leela sees her parents and the way her parents see her are totally different. leela did not grow up knowing she was loved, and she came out feeling alone and desperate to prove herself as a normal, capable, independent person. but her parents kept an eye on her as much as they could, so they knew she was safe and loved. they also convinced themselves there was no way she would ever be happy with them in the sewers and that knowing the truth would embarrass her, so from their POV, she had the happier life. why would she ever want to come back and live with them? there’s no way anything she faced on the surface would be worse than their lives right? (”less than hero” also doubles down on this because they assume so easily that she’s ashamed of them and won’t be upset when they die. brutal!)

also, while morris offering her alcohol and not setting a strict curfew and such could just be because they still see her as an adult, i also headcanon the sewers have a different sense of what’s normal in raising children. we don’t see many children down there, nor even many families besides the turangas, and since it’s obviously a very insular community, i imagine most kids would be free-range, sort of raised by the community. everybody has adapted to the environment, so as long as you stay underground (and away from crocodiles), there’s probably not much from which you’d need to keep kids safe. and with the extremely low budget you can’t be picky with what kids eat and drink and watch and read. from what we know of mutant culture, vulgarity is pretty normalized cuz like... you can’t help it there, it’s what “polite” society sends underground.  

so i think this all adds new layers to later episodes where morris and munda don’t always understand why leela is upset about being forced into anger management, mutating uncontrollably, and infamously the munda/zapp thing. as much as they love her, they assume her life will always be better on the surface, because they gave her up specifically for that purpose. (given that munda is implied to have a lot of repressed disdain for her living situation, i think she might have even wanted to live a bit vicariously through her daughter, while morris seems more attached to mutant values -- even their reaction to lars supports this.) i don’t think leela is willing enough to be open about her trauma to address this, and i think it really upsets her to think that her family, after all this time, would be imperfect, which is probably one of many reasons she’s so upset in “zapp dingbat.”

Mmmmm angsty leo brainrot go brrr

Context:

Draxum took Leo during one of the fam's first adventures on the surface (8ish). He raised Leo as a warrior, training him with the portal sword. When he was 13, Leo felt confident enough to fight back and managed to get himself away from Draxum.

In his time with Draxum, Leo woundn't stop talking, complaining, joking, or pestering until Draxum snapped and nearly strangled him. He can still talk, but he chooses not to. He was trained (read:abused) constantly. He sustained plenty of leg injuries, leading to constant pain that braces barely help. On bad days, he can't walk at all. Most days, he uses his sword as a crutch.

The brothers meet April soon after Leo was taken. Donnie's the first to tell her about it as he's constantly looking for any signs of his twin. When they drop into the Hidden City, and end up in Draxum's lab, the Raph and Donnie go feral at the sight of the man that kidnapped their brother (they get even angrier when Draxum says Leo had run away. They don't believe him). April drags Mikey to the weapons room and grabs the weapons that seem to fit the others' fighting styles the best. April nabs the crystal in hopes it could help Donnie.

The brothers + April and Mayhem retreat when the lab is about to explode. They immediatly tell Splinter of Draxum's location. Splinter is too focused and the possibility of finding his baby blue, that he doesn't ridicule them too much for going down to the Hidden City.

Splinter and Donnie do as much research as possible to find out what Draxum could have done with Leo. It's only a day before the fam planned to go raid Draxum's destroyed lab when Donnie catches a suspicious figure portalling across the city, fighting off the mutants created by the Ooze-squitos. Donnie decides to go off on his own, having a gut feeling that the mystery person in important. Raph and Mikey follow close behind him.

For a year, Leo is out on his own. He stays away from the sewers, scared to face his family again. He hates he's become under Draxum (he does have innocent blood on his hands). He decides that until he can redeem himself, he'll stay hidden. When mutants start popping up in town, Leo is scared that Draxum had begun his plan to destroy the human race. Leo fights them and becomes sloppy at hiding himself.

He's nearly asleep in his hideout one night when he hears someone approach. He immediatly gets ready to fight until he freezes when he meets Donnie's eyes.

He panics and tries to portal away, but the panic disrupts his abilities and he ends up portaling directly into Raph and Mikey.

Do y'all want more of this au? I originally called it my villain Leo au, but I think Lonely Leo fits better..

Rise Characterizations Pt. 6!!!!!!

After the turtles and Splinter, here we have the girl Ever. She's pretty spunky, I had fun analyzing her for writing.

April O'Neil Character Notes

Language Habits:

Uses bae/aave, something she could have passed on down to Raph and Mikey as they also use bae/aave

Most notably uses "mm-kay" in place of "okay"

Uses a lot of filler language, interjections, or onomatopoeia. Think "mhm", "uh huh, uh huh!", "oh yeah!"

"Ah nuts" is her go-to disappointed phrase

Grits and or strains her teeth when she's frustrated

Uses her own name (the full "April O'Neil!!!!") as a battle cry, or brings her name as a motivator i.e. "the one and only April O'Neil will solve this case!"

The more worked up she the louder she tends to be, this extends to stronger emotions such as passion or panic

Over text uses emoticons

Refers to splinter as "splints"

Refers to the turtles as "the fam"

Refers to villains/antagonists through insults rather than their names

Personality:

Adrenaline junkie, as she's often the first to jump into a fight. She also laughs in the face of danger, and was seen maniacally laughing and smiling the entirety of the gumbus episode

Jack of all trades. April has a lot of skills she's picked up from various jobs or personal adventures she's seeked out (like canoeing through the sewers in a hazmat suit and earning a crane license)

Wild and blunt. April is Loud, and rarely ever afraid to share her opinion. This can either make people draw back from her bluntness or be drawn in by her excitableness

Self-conscious. Despite her strong sense of self-esteem, April is still often motivated to impress the popular kids at school or at least fit in. She doesn't want to be seen as the weird kid, or associated with the weird kids

Persistent. April is always quick on her feet to hit back whatever comes at her. She has a good set of problem-solving skills that she's gained from all the skills she's picked up

Loyal. She's always willing to back up the turtles, and goes out of her way to keep Splinter happy with her company. Once she finds a friend it's hard to pry her away

Unlucky. Mostly in absurd or mundane ways. She has that whole curse with her birthday, but things don't often tend to go right for April O'Neil, which contributes to the disasters that cause her to get fired all the time

Miscellaneous:

Code-named "yellow submarine" by raph

Tends to have information on wifi passwords, secret exists, and access to keys from all the jobs she's been hired and fired from

Has a preference for blunt objects as weapons (most commonly bats, clubs, pipes)

Uses the environment in a fight in general

She's been part of the "warren stone fanclub" since 2010, and keeps all her ids in her wallet

Likes unicorns and cats (as seen through her brief texts with sunita and her pajamas)

Loves laser tag

Can beat Donnie at video games (if he didn't use cheat codes)

"sherlock_corn" is her handle online

Lives in an apartment/flat with her mom (showed onscreen briefly), that has its own bathroom

Has a subtly mentioned interest in fantasy, as noted by Donnie she tends to download fantasy rpgs and freaks out over cosplay wizards

Just an end note to all of you who aren't black, some offensive tropes I would stray from is making April the angry black girl. This is one of the most common stereotypes of black women in media. I wouldn't mistake April's passion or loudness for aggression. It would be a disservice to dilute her lively character into familiar but ultimately harmful tropes in media.

I am in no way saying you cannot portray April as angry, this is a powerful emotion and it should be explored with black characters, but I am saying that should not be the base of her character. Because well that's not even April's base. She's centered around fun and thrill-seeking.

Wikipedia (yes I know, But they have proven to be more dependable these past years) has a good article on the angry black woman stereotype, so that would a good place to start research on what to Avoid. In my splinter post I also provided some links on doing research on writing poc.

I kinda want Tucker to have a DC relative.

It can be Duke Thomas from the Batfam. Adoptive Duke may be, adopted to a possible fruit loop he might be, but he's still family. They bond over having odd times of being awake for helping friend (or family) in a somewhat emergency situation and one of them might note that huh, he's also a vigilante? Or a hero? Possible villain? Nah.

It might be that Static Shock guy, you know. I loved that show but didn't have time to look up for it. Still, I recall he used that sewer cover and electromagnetic powers. They can bond over tech or something. And of having odd timing ahaha so awkward let's not talk about it.

Or heck, it can be the Blue Beetle Guy.

Hell, a villain, even.

Just. The two bonding while one of them noting that, oh, my fam might be a hero/vigilante/villain. I might help them out some time. It might even be a misconception and miscommunication.

Maybe one for 2012 Donnie with an athlete reader? Maybe for wrestling or boxing? But the reader is also very smart and outgoing and is such a social bird! Maybe they're actually the one who snuck into the sewers just to visit Donnie. BUt his brothers, splinter, April, and Casey were all scared that reader worked with the purple dragon or foot, but they're just like. "Huh? oh yeah no I'm just here for Donnie!"

OH MY GOD THE CHAOTIC ROM-COM ENERGY I'M GETTING FROM THIS ASK-

DONNIE WITH A SECRET BOXER S/O

You two met while you were out jogging one night.

You had helped him fight off some purple dragons and Donnie thought it was gonna be a one off thing,

But you just kept running into each other.

So you exchanged numbers and kept in touch.

Eventually you guys started dating, and Donnie kept leaving at random times to see you.

One day you wanted to switch it up and you went to visit him.

He knew you were coming and had sent you directions, but appearently he got distracted, and forgot to mention to his family he'd invited someone over.

You walked in, making your way so calmly to Donnie's lab that it kinda threw everyone off.

April was the first to confront you, and you guys got into a tiny boxing match, but to be fair, she swung first. (you may have accidentaly bruised her cheek, but hey, self defense.)

Casey tried to pin you to the ground, but you clocked him in the face and knocked the poor guy out.

Eventually they cornered you and Leo asked who you were working for.

Then it kinda clicked that this wasn't some weird family initiation and that Donnie kinda forgot to mention you.

You looked at Leo for like 4 seconds before you busted out laughing, "I am literally just here to see, Donnie."

"I- What?"

"Hold that thought." You picked up your phone, as Donnie had called to ask if you were almost there.

You snickered, "Love, I'm standing in your living room. Your brother has a sword to my neck and I knocked out one of your friends."

A loud crash sounded from the lab, and you hung up the phone, still giggling.

Donnie rushed into the room, frantically explaining to his brother that you were his S/O.

He apologized over and over agin for getting distracted and not mentioning you coming over but you just thought it was hilarious.

Apologies were exchanged among you and his family, after getting you an ice pack, (April hit hard), he brought you to see Splinter.

You bonded well, and Splinter even offered to teach you ninjitsu,

I mean you obviously agreed, you already took boxing, why not learn ninja arts?

Casey was terrified of you when he came too,

And you apologized for knocking him out, and introduced yourself.

You guys actually bonded pretty well, your love of sports being a good topic to build off of.

It was really chaotic,

But you meeting his fam for the first time will be a treasured memory forever.

The triplets would regain their separate identities, but only after Damian's been well established as the new Robin. It'd be kind of suspicious if Timothy Drake became Tim, Archy, and Lionel around the same time people realized there were three feral Robins running around instead of one. The fam would probably try to convince them otherwise but they'd totally bully the Bats into going along with it. Except Barbara. They bribe Barbara.

They do have a favorite Rogue!

Archy's favorite Rogue to beat up is Clayface. He tried to pretend to be Robin once except it was Archy's turn that night, and Clayface punted him into the sewers. Clayface got extra crispy that night and Archy found a new appreciation for electricity.

His favorite Rogue to hang out with is Cat-Woman. He's got a passion for looting that she appreciates. He's learned some of the tricks of the trade from her.

Lionel's favorite Rogue to beat up changes weekly, but the main roster is Penguin, Victor Zsasz (they have matching psycho energy but like on different sides of the scale), and Prometheus because the guy tried to off Commissioner Gordon.

His favorite Rogue to hang out with is Poison Ivy. He brings her plants and she's got the best kidnapping etiquette. As in he never wakes up with a headache if she ever tries to take him out. She can match his intensity in protecting the things they care about. She's like a mentor to him.

Tim's favorite Rogue to beat up is Cluemaster (bc he's bffs with Steph) and Two-Face. They're relatively simple to outwit- they're smart but they're not Tim-smart and fighting them gives him a break from his own head.

On the flip side, Tim's favorite Rogue to hang with is the Riddler. He's chill when he's not setting up bombs and traps everywhere. Plus, when Tim gets kidnapped by him, they do like a little trivia to pass the time before Batman comes to rescue him.

I LOVED how Baron Draxum seems to be an actually good father towards Mikey. Dunno the other 2 under him but he seems nice to Mickey, letting him learn and all!

It does seems like having children changed him a little bit. If he and Splinter ever encounter (I know they will but reaaaally later) would they share custody of the kids or Draxum would accuse him of being a coward and hiding all this years and never wanting to come and “safe” the kids under his guardianship when he knew they existed?

If I remember correctly, Splinter seems to KNOW that the turtles exist even before feeling the ninpō connection.

Also, god, we need to see interactions between the 3 kids under Barry. Do they like each other? Are they jealous of Mikey and his relationship with Barry? They seem really close, makes sense as Mikey IS the one with the strongest mystic abilities in the fam.

Would they meet Raph the same way Baron met with the foot clan in the cartoon?

Having children definitely changed Draxum-- especially since one of those children was Michel fucking angelo. I mean, come on... How can you not be at least a little soft for that sweet boy?

The plan is for them to essentially share custody. Splinter is not a fan of Draxum and is therefore not thrilled about this, but Draxum has three of his kids, and is actually, admittedly, doing a... decent job with them... and none of the kids have any intention of leaving their Dad to go live with this rat in the sewers instead, so... He doesn't really have much of a choice.

Splinter was not aware up until recently that he had any living children. Up until now, he was under the impression that all of the turtles that were mutated with his DNA were killed in the ensuing lab explosion, as he wasn't able to find any of them in the wreckage. It wasn't until he felt Donnie's ninpo activate that he discovered that this wasn't the case.

We will definitely see Draxum's other kids soon, as well as Raph!

Ghost doesn't condone the boys stealing, but I'm curious. Does that include Repo Mantis' junkyard? Cuz, I think a lot of folks are unaware of this, but junkyard junk isn't free. You still have to pay the owner of the junkyard for that stuff, you can't just go in and take it.

It's funny, considering how much the turtle-fam (especially donnie) has stolen from him over the years

along with multiple counts of them trespassing onto his private property

at least two separate instances of them messing with his cat

with one of those instances being filmed with the intention of posting it online

all without his knowledge and/or consent

Repo is the only "villain" in Rise that is actually pretty justified in disliking the Mad Dogs🤣

Look, Ghost grew up going through junkyards. He tries to pay for things when he can, but he's essentially penniless and lives in the sewers. He doesn't just pick from Mantis' junkyard but he's definitely been there more than a few times.

Ghost's whole thing is "don't steal if you can help it but also stealing from bad guys is morally fine" which is why he skims money off of billionaire's accounts. And THAT, he does use to pay for things.

Ghost hates Repo anyway; he made a deal with his kids and then went back on it. In Ghost's mind, that's enough to get your shit thieved. lmao

The story was they were early expiriment Draxum yeeted into the Hidden City sewers and was found by Yuichi's fam and raised like a brother(kinda). The T-mobile lookin bitch got shipped in an ask and the thought poisoned my mind and now its this. They are a bitch. Honestly i cant think of anything else. My mind is beyond scrambled. Theyre short. It's November 1st, Halloween's officially over and it's on the day after Halloween that the lair is suddenly terrorized by Christmas songs.

03 Mikey and 07 Mikey being the ringleaders behind this one. These little trouble makers dig through 03 Mikey's playlist, looking for one song in particular. Once it's found the duo set things up waiting for midnight exactly before they put it into action. Everyone's still up but are getting ready to call it a night when suddenly they hear it.

"I don't want a lot for Christmas, there's just one little thing I need-"

03 Leo, 03 Donnie, 03 Raph, 07 Leo, 07 Raph and 07 Donnie immediately know who's behind this because they all just stiffen up with the looks of Oh hell no. 12 Leo who's helping Rise Donnie with something just seems to pause before this dead inside look comes across his face and he goes:

"One day can't we just wait one day before we go into Christmas mode??? Halloween literally just ended for fuck sake-"

And Rise Donnie is literally fighting with himself on whether he should sing along or go find the two responsible for this because the Dolly Parton incident is still fresh in his mind and he'll never forget nor forgive. 12 Mikey and Rise Leo on the other hand look like they're gonna explode with stupid giddiness because yes it's that time of year again! Bayverse Mikey is snickering at all this while Bayverse Leo is rubbing his temples to ease his oncoming headache and Bayverse Raph and Bayverse Donnie are instantly having their hackles raised literally shouting out:

"IT'S NOVEMBER 1ST YOU SICKOS-"

12 Donnie grits his teeth because he's just gotten over the Dolly Parton thing but God's seriously testing him right now, while 12 Raph and Rise Raph are just going into this with a dead like acceptance because 12 Mikey and Rise Leo and Rise Mikey do this kind of thing every damn year and they've learned that fighting it is literally pointless. Rise Mikey's practically bouncing up and down in his place looking all the world like it's officially Christmas time and already planning his baking schedule for the next two months. Meanwhile 87 Leo, 87 Raph, 87 Donnie and 87 Mikey are listening intently because they've never heard this song before and it's pretty catchy and they wanna know who sings it.

The clan leaders on the other hand, 87 Splinter, 03 Splinter, 07 Splinter, Bayverse Splinter and Rise Splinter are just already exhausted because here we go again. That's when 03 Mikey and 07 Mikey come into the room beaming twin smiles on their faces and go:

"TIS THE SEASON NOW BABY LET'S GOOOOOO-!"

The 03 and 07 boys are quick to go at their little brothers because this is ridiculous. All the while Mariah Carey's song is going on at midnight in the sewers of NYC. The rest of November is literally spent like this with the lair slowly looking and sounding like Christmas just vomited all over everything. And whenever 87 April, 03 April, 07 April and Bayverse April finally see this they're just like:

"Aw damn that time of year again huh? Wild man."

12 April and Rise April meanwhile are torn between exasperation and fondness for their boys and their Christmas time insanity. 87 Casey, 03 Casey, 07 Casey and Bayverse Casey just start to reek havoc Christmas style along with the others because if you can't beat em join em. 12 Casey meanwhile is trying to get Rise Cassandra and Rise Casey Jr to relax because Christmastime is a time for celebration and no one's trying to attack us fam trust me and we'll go to beat people up later I promise. As December draws a bit closer they'll all get into the Christmas spirit but presently a lot of them lowkey wanna scream.

Ok, so this is what happened in the inbetween of Raph’s toddler years and his encounter with Draxum, at least in the head of this silly author~ but honestly? If the author doesn’t show it in the story, then it’s up to the readers to fill up the blanks and your hcs are as canon as the author’s writing (someone please tell JK Rowling this xD). Anything you can come up with that fits, it’s cannon for this fic! It’s as valid as the idea living rent-free in my head if not stated otherwise in a future chapter! n.n

Below are spoilers (maybe) for the fic, this is your last warning~ please also consider it’s the bare bones of it.

Draxum goes to the surface, following the trail of Splinter. Draxum finds their different hideouts a few times — Splinter didn’t go directly to the sewers. Honestly, it wouldn’t be my first option either! — so Splinter fends off Draxum while Raph grabs his brothers and flees every single time.

The Head Council of Hidden City thinks Draxum is starting to cause too much havoc — it’s not like Draxum gives a flying fuck about discretion or collateral damage tbh —  and wants to avoid a war against humanity, thus send their own tropes to arrest Draxum (as they should have done from the beginning instead of relying on Mayhem only, the idiots!)

Draxum is imprisoned in an anti-mystic area (because the police have these little balls for that same purpose, as shown in Hidden City's Most Wanted, their existence is glossed over but THERE) so he stays incarcerated for quite a while until one day, Big Mama offers to take him out of prison, so he can continue his work. She doesn’t tell him she wants the mutagen to create more fighters for Battle Nexus and couldn’t care less about the prophecy, and she is not stupid enough to let him free at full power, so the area she offers for him to work at is “anti-mystic” just like his prison cell, and heavily guarded by Big Mama's goons.

Draxum just has more freedom of movement and a way to continue what he had intended to since the very beginning, just no longer on his terms, and with Subject One no longer at his side.

No more soldiers, no more experiments. Just perfect the formula and mass produce it. No deviations.

Draxum has little choice but to agree with her terms, and thus is on “house arrest”, working on the mutagen in “exchange” of having Big Mama and the gargoyles search for Subject One and bring the snapper to him once found.

Big Mama thinks that’s a distractor, so she doesn’t really lift a finger to find Raph. She just has his existence noted at the back of her mind in case Draxum starts to get out of control, so she can use “Subject One” as incentive for the alchemist to behave. 

The gargoyles are the only ones actively searching, but only mildly. They’re silly and care just about themselves more than anything else, but some of the things Draxum put Subject One through were kinda harsh even by their standards, so when they do find Raph they just go:

“Oh there he is! Maybe let him grow a bit before we report it?”

“I like how you think!”

And promptly forget to actually report on it lmao. So, that’s how Raph gets to have a semblance of a normal life with Splinter and his fam, at least for a while <3

Draxum at some point realizes he’s being used and releases the oozequitos in NYC before Big Mama can use them for Battle Nexus, so our turtle teens had no hand on that. They just get to witness the insects in action one day, go "is the police of Hidden City handling that? No? Ok, guess we should lend a hand or smth" and thus the series begins.

Big Mama is pissed about it, so she enacts punishment (have not decided on which yet atm) and ultimately dumps Draxum’s butt back in prison, back to his cell, where he remains until the Foot Clan breaks him out, with promises of grandeur and this shiny mystic armor that would make him powerful enough to be able to subjugate the human race with no army needed, just himself! Ain’t that neat? No tricks or anything, obviously...

Draxum agrees, and then ch 13 happens.

So Draxum is basically imprisoned and used, time and again, to fulfill someone else’s agenda and goals ever since Raph’s escape, which is exactly what he did / would have put Raph through. Karma, sweet karma <3

As for the mystic weapons, in my head our Rise!Turtles got them in the Hidden City thanks to Leo and Mikey, who charmed over the mafia with their excellent service in Huesos’ establishment, because in this AU they were younger when they started to venture out to NYC and the Hidden City, and I imagine a lot of their shenanigans happened all the same regardless of age difference xD

How did the search for Galois in Chapter 33 go for both sides (Draxum and his side looking for Galois after he was captured and Leo and his side when Galois got away from them/evaded Raph)? Who was the most calm, who was the most hysterical, etc.? Did Leo lash out at anyone on his side in particular/blaming them? Did Draxum?

Hmm, I'm trying to think back now to what Draxum and co were doing during the chapter. The fact that I never write this shit down is gonna kill me one day, I swear.

So after Draxum's team regrouped and Cass and Tigerclaw told him what happened, Draxum probably had some...choice words for Tigerclaw. And for everyone else, but they were keeping their distance and he wasn't lashing out at anyone in specific, just anyone he saw. He was probably close to hysterical even before the Phone Call, but the whole thing with Leo parading his victory and verbally attacking him, (which he knew was absolutely deserved and that made it even worse) the sound of Galois screaming for him, hearing Splinter's voice and knowing Donnie's real father was with him-if he wasn't so practical he probably would have attacked Tigerclaw. But he needed to find his kid.

I think I had Tigerclaw and Cass take two of the people they were with to search while Huginn was with the other three, because Draxum trusts none of his allies and thinks they're all secretly planning to take his son and sell him off or whatever. He didn't trust them not to hurt Cass if left alone with her either. (Huginn's harder to injure so he didn't really care) He went off with just Muninn so he could cover more ground and because he'd probably murder anyone else he was around. (Muninn kept his beak very firmly shut) He knows the rough area of the lair but as a show of respect to Donnie's final wishes he never uncovered the exact location. Which he regretted, after sending out search parties to scour the hundreds of miles of sewer tunnels under Manhattan.

Cass probably went into Full Chaos Mode and was ready to destroy any turtles or rats or stupid humans with bats she came across-after making sure her little brother was unharmed. Tigerclaw, he's a professional, he's good at keeping his cool. He kept Cass from breaking her neck and generally balanced her out, they made a pretty good team. Both the gargoyles were seconds away from breaking into tears, but they choked it down. There were several instances where Gale almost came across a search party looking for him, but swam away because he heard voices and assumed it must have been the turtles.

Draxum was completely frantic. Galois was scared and potentially injured and Draxum was terrified by what Leo and the fam might be able to do to the memory spell. He's very confident that it's secure by now, but in Donatello's old home surrounded by Donatello's family and Leo being given ample time to work his machinations-he already has nightmares of the spell unwinding, he can only deal with them by telling himself that they're complete paranoia. If Leo gave them weight, Draxum's heart might give out.

He 100% cried in the shower afterwards.

On the fam's side, let's see, Raph and Splinter searched together so I must have had Leo and Mikey as the other search party, since April stayed back in case Donnie stumbled back in or Draxum found the lair. (she probably called several people to help search, but Leo was in such a state that he just didn't remember anything afterwards)(plus there was the whole 'Donnie is ready to murder and a bit feral right now and he might legit try to kill anyone who corners him' to contend with, so April wasn't a good candidate for engaging) She was probably kind of a mess of everything. Anger, crying, denial. She wouldn't remember much of this either.

Unfortunately, I feel like Splinter would really detach after all the kids were home safe. He'd be good during the initial search, keeping everyone on-task and staying relatively calm, but after realizing that he'd really lost Donnie again he just...shut down. Probably spent the next couple of days staring at the wall. Raph would have accepted defeat first out of everyone and set to taking care of his remaining family, like he does in the movie. Mikey and Leo were the ones who had to be physically stopped, because they would have kept searching until they collapsed. Mikey cried a lot. He still has bouts of crying over it, honestly.

Leo, though, Leo was in an absolute frenzy. He'd planned this out for weeks, and he thought it was all but foolproof. He thought he was entirely in the clear once they got Donnie in that blanket. He'd really believed that the ordeal was over and Donnie was back home for good-and then that was snatched away. He lost his brother again, and he had no more aces up his sleeve. That was his best plan, and it still didn't work. He was completely out of everything, ideas and energy and lies he told himself, and he still didn't have Donnie.

He was nasty. Yelling at everyone, hitting and biting anyone that tried to get him to give up. He was the last one home, and I think I mentioned this but they literally had to sedate him because he was acting so erratically Splinter was legitimately afraid he was going to hurt himself or someone else.

Nobody held it against him. They knew they'd probably react the same in his shoes.

Ok so

Teenage mutant ninja turtles: Land over water"

(first of all i wanna thank @lieutenantbiscute cause she was such a help in making this)

The reason behind the name of the au originated from the species of the turtles

These guys are tortoises in this, bot turtles, so by nature they'd prefer land over water.

Here's the species of each turtle

LEONARDO:

A pancake tortoise

He is the shortest and smallest but he's also the eldest, he's chill most of the time, but worries too when in mother hen mode, he's the medic and leader but donnie is also secondary medic when leo is out of commission, he's got sass and a cain instinct

DONATELLO :

He's an elongated tortoise

he's the second eldest, he's the genius and secondary medic of the fam, he makes the medicine that leo uses, he's a worry worm, anxious, but also calm and collected when needed to be

MICHAELANGELO:

He's a Russian tortoise

He's the middle child, very funny and laid back, doesn't take stuff seriously but mostly to hide the fact that he's worried or scared, optimistic and a jokester

RAPHAEL:

He's a galapagos tortoise

Yes he is the youngest, yet he's still a hot head, but a bit toned down because he's so damn huge based on his specie

He likes to make fun if leo for his height a lot and calls him "fearless pancake", he's snarky, sassy and sarcastic but also affectionate and caring

As for splinter, i kind of swapped the whole thing

In this au the backstory of the hamato family goes like this:

Gamato yoshi the heaf of the hamato clan and Tang shen get together and have a beautiful baby girl named Miwa and years later adopt a little boy named saki

Saki and miwa are pretty close siblings, however jealousy sparked in between

You see, when it came to the art of ninjitsu, miwa aways proved to be better than saki in evry single way

And saki was jealous, however that jealousy burned into hatred when on the night their father was to choose a new head of the hamato clan, he chose miwa

And on the same night, the dark truth of his origins belonging to the foot clan that got wiped by the clan that raised him

He was angry, jealous and vengeful

He manipulated the hamto clan into his favour, and those who refused got killed

Tang shen didn't survive

Hamato yoshi did barely

And karai managed to escape to new york

But

Before she did she had to pay a cost

The hamato family had a chemical business on the side, and in her fight against her brother he used the ooz against her, little did he know that she had her four pet tortoise tots on her, who also got splashed by the ooze

She got mutated into a snake while her tortoises mutated into more humanoid looks

In new york she took shelter in the sewers and changed her name into karai

She raised her boys and taught them the art of ninjitsu, and down the road she'd teach them the spiritual arts

Bits that's a story for another day :)
