Poietika: La Parola è Donna

REGIONE MOLISE e FONDAZIONE MOLISE CULTURA presentano: POIETIKA Art festival VII EDIZIONE dal 28 settembre al 2 ottobre 2022 Campobasso Dal 28 settembre al 2 ottobre 2022 a Campobasso ritorna Poietika Art Festival, un evento di caratura internazionale per ospiti e temi trattati. La traccia portante della VII Edizione è 'La Parola è Donna', dedicata all'esplorazione della figura femminile in tutte le sue sfaccettature. Scrittrici, un Premio Nobel, giornaliste, storiche, economiste, attiviste, artiste: saranno imperdibili e speciali gli appuntamenti in programma. Uno spazio speciale sarà dato al fumetto, con laboratori dedicati ai più giovani. Le ospiti in dialogo sono:

Joumana Haddad, autrice libanese, giornalista e attivista per i diritti umani. È stata selezionata tra le 100 donne arabe più influenti al mondo per quattro anni consecutivi.

Tawakkol Karman, attivista per i diritti umani, giornalista e politica. Conosciuta come la "madre della rivoluzione", "la donna di ferro" e "la signora della primavera araba" Karman a soli 32 anni è stata la prima donna araba e la seconda musulmana a vincere il Premio Nobel per la Pace nel 2011.

Linda Scott, economista, ha fondato la Global Business Coalition for Women's Economic Empowerment, una coalizione di undici grandi multinazionali che collaborano per l'emancipazione economica delle donne. Attualmente è consulente di genere della Banca Mondiale e ha scritto un documento sull'impatto della disuguaglianza di genere sulla povertà per l'USAID.

Sakena Jacoobi, attivista afghana e direttrice esecutiva dell'Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL), ONG guidata dalle donne che ha fondato nel 1995. È nota per il suo lavoro in difesa dei diritti dei bambini, delle donne e per l'istruzione.

Laura Scarpa, insignita nel 2022 del Romics d’Oro alla XXVIII edizione di Romics, fumettista, illustratrice, editrice, docente, saggista e storica del fumetto, ha debuttato nel 1978 su Linus con “Il Drago” e in seguito per le Edizioni Ottaviano. Elisa Casseri, scrittrice, drammaturga e autrice.

Marisa Salabelle, autrice.

Lorenza Foschini, giornalista, autrice, e conduttrice di programmi televisivi di successo.

Marinette Pendola, storica nata a Tunisi da genitori di lontana origine siciliana. Studiosa della storia, degli usi e costumi della comunità italiana in Tunisia, membro del gruppo di ricerca “Progetto della memoria” promosso dall’ Ambasciata Italiana a Tunisi.

Cècile Bidault, giovane autrice francese, proviene da esperienze di illustrazione e animazione.

Marta Besantini, artista che vive da 12 anni in Francia, dove lavora come freelance, passando da ceramica, illustrazione, corsi e workshop. POIETIKA Poietika nasce nel 2015 come luogo di incontri, di conversazioni e dialoghi, tra il locale e il globale, tra il Molise e il mondo. Tra gli ospiti straordinari delle passate edizioni (Steve McCurry, Adonis, Umberto Galimberti, Pupi Avati, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Antonio Moresco, Pino Bertelli, Ibrahim Nasrallah, Vito Mancuso, Vandana Shiva, Valerio Magrelli, Letizia Battaglia, Mariangela Gualtieri, Salvatore Natoli, Patrizia Valduga, e tanti altri... Le donne arabe hanno svolto un ruolo vitale nella società e nella cultura della regione del Medio Oriente e del Nord Africa (MENA) per secoli. Tuttavia, negli ultimi decenni, hanno affrontato un contesto in rapida evoluzione che ha portato a significative trasformazioni nelle loro vite. Questo articolo esplorerà il ruolo delle donne arabe, le sfide che affrontano e i loro notevoli successi. Summary

It was really interesting to take pieces of media that I enjoy and reflect on them in a manner I haven't before.

As for Abbot Elementary (2021), knowing Quinta Brunson's work and views, I could see the direction she was taking for this show. It's obvious that she wanted to highlight the unfair treatment that a school like Abbot Elementary receives from others, especially the government. But that within that school, there are people who strive hard to make sure it functions.

With Hidden Figures (2016), telling a true and untold story about some of the most brave women in our history, brought me to tears at many points. Even though I have heard about stories like this, where Black women or Black families are brutally treated in the US, the way it's told in this film shows the resilience that the women continued to have in an environment that did not uplift them at all.

Tawakkol Karman is someone who apalled me when I first heard of her. I couldn't believe that a Yemeni women would be as outspoken as she is. And if you asked my family and parents, they would say that I am the most outspoken and opinionated person they know, in a good way. It's about publicly doing it, something I couldn't imagine myself doing. I definitely see myself being outspoken in my work, but Karman's is in a manner where she criticizes practices that many people hold tight to - that's the problematic part.

Overall, it was very interesting to reflect on these modern pieces and subjects in comparison to the history of ethnic identities who have also strove for the same successes as these people and stories.

'On 18 June she wrote an article entitled "Yemen's Unfinished Revolution' in the New York Times in which she assailed the United States and Saudi Arabia for their support for the 'corrupt' Saleh regime in Yemen because they 'used their influence to ensure that members of the old regime remain in power and the status quo is maintained.' She argued that American intervention in Yemen was motivated by the war on terror and was not responsive to either the human rights abuses in Yemen or the calls from Yemen's democracy movement. She affirmed that the protesters in Yemen also wanted stability in the country and region. In an interview on Democracy Now!, Karman said, 'In our weekly protests in front of the cabinet, we called on the government to allow people to have freedom of speech and for people to be able to own online newspapers. We knew and know that freedom of speech is the door to democracy and justice, and also that part of the freedom of speech is the freedom of movement... The culture of freedom and protests spread all over Yemen. Every time we stood up for our rights the government answered with violence or interfered in our rights....' She credited Tunisia for inspiring others around the Middle East for the Arab Spring protests."

Tawakkol Karman (1979-present)

In 2005 she founded Women Journalists Without Chains. Her organization promotes freedom of expression and democratic rights. It also provided regular reports on human rights abuses in Yemen. Then years later in 2011, Karman became the face of the Yemeni uprising. That same year she also became the first Yemeni, first Arabic woman, and the second Muslim woman to win a Noble Peace Prize. The price recognized her work advocating on behalf of women. Karman was also the second youngest recipient of the Noble Peace Prize, following behind Malala Yousafzai, another Muslim woman.

Tawakkol Karman is a Yemeni female, a Nobel Peace Laureat, and activist who fought against cultural pressure to not speak up in a moment where she neeeded to. Yemeni culture tends to shush women, not all the time, but especially for a woman being in the public eye, it's seen as not her place. However, Karman fought against this, she took off her niqab (which is a personal choice, but also the region she originates from is not as strict about wearing it like other regions of Yemen are. She became one of many faces during the Arab Spring Revolution that took place all over the Middle East-North African region in 2011 - her being in Yemen. A time where people from all ME/NA countries were fed up with the political greed, oppression, and exploitation going on. An uprising that spread like fire with the use of Facebook, starting in Tunisia, and going on in Yemen, Egypt, Bahrain, Syria, and other countries.

Tawakkol Karman

Tawakkol's story reminds me of the Chicana feminist movement. How women strove against the pressure to stay quiet, how they're expected to sit silently and suffer. Tawakkol not only stood up for Yemenis, but she gave Yemeni women a voice. To speak up against what's wrong, to fight for their rights, and to not be quiet if the flame within you is burning for you to speak loudly.
