I'd like to think that even though the doodler is no longer a threat, D.A.D.D.I.E.S is still up and running (hiring, even), but now its focus is to repair some of the damage done by the doodler and help those most affected in this post-apocalyptic world. Is this partially so that I can imagine kiddad office shenanigans? Yes. But I also just find the concept pleasant on its own. Perhaps when they're older some of the teens even rejoin the organization, 😌 but *only* when they're older (I need the teens to be dumb teenagers who do normal teenager things *please*). Also Glenn is there (he needed a job) and fixed the elevator (made it worse).

since ive already been pretty open about this and im not afraid to whack a hornets nest i'll go ahead and say it: if you were raising a kid in a pseudo-apocalyptic setting and then you found out that said kid was going to be the one to defeat the eldritch god that you have tried to defeat for half your lifetime and could never manage. that she was going to FACE that eldritch god it was prophesied. you would teach her how to defend herself and how to fight. like god i am not saying hero's trauma from it wasn't justified because i do think the twins took it too far but the initial process of training her makes so much more sense if you approach it at the angle of "this kid is going to do something we've been trying to do since we were twelve and couldn't manage and we might not even be there to help her so we have to make sure she doesn't die in the process" and not "we're going to make her fix our mistakes" it makes sense. goes along with lark's running theme of not being strong enough in the moments that matter and wanting to make sure nobody else ever feels as helpless as he did when walter was injured. goes along with sparrow desperately tempting fate with normal's name- not because normal was an accident, but because sparrow never wanted to lose even one kid to the doodler and it was a fervent, desperate wish to let normal get to be normal

Nows as good a time as any to share my favorite personal headcanon that in the original timeline before Ron was in the picture Nick thought it would be rad to set up Glenn and Samantha after they met at a school-based grief counselling thing for kids who lost a parent because she was nice and asked Nick how he was feeling and then Terry did absolutely everything in his power to make sure their parents were never even in the same room again because absolutely fucking not

#they both tried to recruit grant and the twins to their cause. never worked out well #Glenn absolutely never went to grief counselling but imagine for a moment that he and nick went to a thing for kids who lost a parent #and then hey isnt that your friend from soccer and wow his mom is smokin hot #there would be so much hijinks. every single day i think about nicky close-foster whose entire personality completely shifted when he grew up with a different dad. every day i think about how no matter what kind of person he turned out to be, the core is that both nick and nicholas idolized and loved their dads so much that they tried to be so much like them. in both timelines. the only core of nicky foster/close that stayed the same when he turned from nick to nicholas was the love he had for his father.

i think that if one of the other sons' dads had gotten switched, they hadnt had NEARLY the same kind of reaction to the kid. i think grant, terry, and the twins' personalities would have stayed at least relatively the same. but nicks didnt because he looked up to his dad so much that he based his entire personality off of him

and i will never stop thinking about that

Henry, Darryl, and Glenn toddler/baby parenting headcanons, brought to you by discussions with my mum, studying attachment in psych currently, and @landrick-lycidas foolishly asking about them.

Henry and Mercedes are definetly on one of the Science-Aware Natural Parenting groups on Facebook. They always had slings ready to carry Lark and Sparrow in, (the twins probably prefered walking and running, so this was for when they got tired and clingy, or when they were babies who couldn't yet walk) and probably ended up amassing a collection, which then became repurposed/given to other parents when the twins were older. Breastfed for as long as possible, and very child led.

Carol and Darryl were much more a set feeding times, bottle-fed only and move Grant onto formula pretty quickly kinda couple. Very American from what I've seen. Grant probably slept in a crib in his own room, and I imagine Carol was a very "Let him cry it out" 90s style of parenting (which had a lot to do with Skinner's operant conditioning stuff!) but I don't think Darryl could bear to hear his son in distress, and would often go comfort him anyway. He probably would have worn those baby carriers if he was as comfortable in himself/his masculinty then as he is at the end of the show. Glenn and Morgan are a very specific kind of parenting I don't know how to describe. They never bought a crib for Nick, and always let him sleep in their bed until he was big enough to need his own. Much like the Oak-Garcias, very child-led but less in a concious, methodical way and more in a punk and/or "we're twenty and don't know what we're doing so lets just try and make our kid as happy as possible" way. Glenn is also definetly a picking up on Nick's alert phases and show reciprocacy kinda guy. In other words: very much a "hey little man" *baby gurgling in response* "hell yeah dude, that sounds wild". Engages a lot with his son's baby babble and treats it like serious conversation, strongly a play/talking kinda dad. Also, picture: Glenn lying on his back with baby Nick resting on his stomach for tummy time. Even then, they were best friends

Nick spends most of the time crying because he wants to play with his new friends and doesn't WANNA leave.

Grant runs around playing games and laughing because he thinks there are no consequences, Darryl chasing after him VERY aware of consequences.

Terry thinking his dad is just back from a trip or something and not understanding why Ron doesn't want him to stay with him.
