I got really attached to Preston Garvey and the Minutemen and got upset when I was told interact with the main factions.

Alternative Ruby timeline

Ruby refused to become the Overboss. She accepted the job first, but then she realised this is not okay. She already had doubts when she saw Nuka Town. She escapes during the second night, and makes it back to Sanctuary. Preston was there, he was mad, at first that Ruby even thought about joining the raiders. Eventually the talked it through. One thing lead to the other, Preston helped Ruby to see the manipulations in the world, and to overcome them.

She went back to Diamond City to meet Nick. And then Goodneighbor. There she greeted John as an old friend. Later they work it out, and reunite.

Ruby has only one fear, being manipulated. The Gauntlet scarred her, and now she fights manipulation and lies whenever and wherever she can. She is best friends with Nick, Piper, and Preston.

There is one thing left, bringing the Minutemen back to its former glory to march west and eliminate a huge threat called, the Nuka-World Raiders.

A Messy List of Deacon Headcanons

just things I think about… haha

he has really bad insomnia

like seriously, his body has changed over the years to be compatible with his 1-to-2-hours-a-day sleep schedule

he usually sleeps standing up in HQ when he has nothing to do

he has the ability to strikingly change his voice

he doesn’t do it anymore though

for a while after he joined the railroad he seriously considered being a synth

he flinches a lot, though he’s good at hiding it

when someone yells his name, when sole slaps his shoulder, or when there are sudden gunshots

but he’s so strategic with his next move that sole never seems to notice

his sunglasses are barbara’s

he knows how to play the guitar, barbara taught him

he has a habit of disappearing sometimes — usually to have a quick panic attack he feels coming on

he’s been getting them ever since he joined the UP Deathclaws

he has them less now, but they’re still around

he actually likes danse after blind betrayal

he has a huge hang-up over being accepted, that’s (part) of what turned him into a compulsive liar

if someone doesn’t like him he will literally toil over it. he has entire conversations with himself trying to find what part of him is lacking and lie his way into fixing it

especially danse. he pretends like it’s fine but it really bothers him that this guy didn’t even give him a chance to make a good impression

he is touch starved because he hasn’t allowed himself to get close to anyone since barbara

until sole, ofc

the dude doesn’t cry. not until his body literally forces him into some kind of momentary breakdown

drummer boy annoys him

he spend a lot of time around settlements that he’d never seen a real deathclaw until he joined the railroad

he’s younger than everyone thinks

he was kinda scared of desdemona at first, and definitely of glory

but when did he do? lie and play it cool. they ended up liking him

when sole takes him to university point it gets a little hard for him to breathe

he would fall in love with the sole survivor even if they didn’t romance him, just because he found himself again when he was with them

sometimes, every now and then, he tells sole a true thing that he saw or did. it makes it a bit easier to tell the truth when the person you’re talking to thinks you’re lying

The Silk Spectre is a comics heroine I don’t know a lot about. Like Black Canary, the character spans the generations. The mother, a red-headed beauty named Sally Jupiter (she changed her last name from the Polish Juspeczyk to avoid prejudice), was a member of the 1940s vigilante group The Minutemen, but with her striking looks, burlesque dancer background and tight yellow short-skirted costume, Sally was always more sex symbol than crimefighter. Sally retired and had a daughter, Laurie Juspeczyk, who took up the mantle of the Silk Spectre in the 1970s, joining a superhero group called The Watchmen, where her athleticism and martial arts skills were put to good use. The main title in which both versions of the Spectre appear is The Watchmen comic and its spin offs, published by DC Comics. The title is definitely of the “dark” genre which eschewed camp action adventures in favour of introspection, adult themes and relationship issues, and which became particularly prevalent in the 1990s and 2000s.

Although not my favourite type of heroine, the stories of both Silk Spectres are sufficiently intriguing to make me want to read the Watchmen comics, which I will do, and post on this mother/daughter character again.

Random Headcanons for: NPCs

♢ Ellie Perkins knits in her spare time. She knit her own scarf, and both Piper and Nat's scarves. She also does other things like gloves and socks, and is working on a blanket.

♢ Ellie's parents were triggermen. They both died in a shootout when she was still a teen. It inspired her to move out of Goodneighbor and begin working with Nick to stop crime.

♢ Travis 'Lonely' Miles is FTM.

♢ Kent Connolly is related to Eddie Winter.

♢ Fahrenheit's real name is Lydia.

♢ Sheng and Donny Kowalski are brothers. Sheng moved to Diamond City when their dad died and unknowingly mispelt his last name on the registration forms. Donny didn't want to leave the waterfront.

♢ The Vault-tec Rep is named ‘James Robert Smith’ and goes by Jim, Jimmy, and Jim Bob.

♢ Magnolia knows she's a synth. She already had a talent and passion for singing, and didn't want to risk a memory alteration changing that, so she just got the facechange and stays low-key. It's an additional reason to why she won't date, other than being married to her work.

♢ The two Minutemen who died at Concord were named Charles and Alice. (These were Preston's friends, and the other MM in his group were named, so these guys get names too.)

♢ As the Minutemen rebuild and Blake Abernathy is able to get farmhands to help him out, Lucy joins up with the Minutemen like she had wanted, to help stop other families suffering like hers did.

♢ Jake Finch also joins up with the Minutemen officially, taking his fathers flaming sword with his blessing this time.

{LONG POST AHEAD}

The "Before Watchmen" series of comics from 2012 definitely aren't the best. But I will say if you're gonna pick up any of them, I'd say pick up the Minutemen one. The Silk Spectre story it comes packaged with is alright (I just really thought they could've done way more with Laurie in that one. I feel like she constantly gets the short end of the stick in EVERYTHING that isn't the original story) but the Minutemen one is a pretty great read.

I really encourage anyone who finds this post to go in blind. It is much better than way. But I will highlight some aspects that I like--without getting into **spoilers.

*I will be using panels from the comics to illustrate some points.

*i will be getting into spoilers later, but I will label them accordingly.

1. The Silhouette's Characterization

Without getting into spoilers, I will say I absolutely LOVE what Darwyn Cooke (the author AND primary illustrator of the Minutemen issues) did with her. A lot of people, including me, were heavily disappointed--and rightly so--with what became of Ursula in the original story. Rest assured she is given some major character tweaks and is one of the driving forces of these series of comics, alongside Hollis Mason. We see her wife, Gretchen, in the story as well.

And, I believe she is a very good reflection of Rorschach (yup, of all characters) in the same vein as Hollis being one for Dan, and Sally being one for Laurie. She is just as every bit as stubborn, protective and serious--a person who was victimized, and uses her pain as fuel to protect the weak (in her case, she does it leagues better than Rorschach, don't get me wrong. )

If anything, read the story for her.

2. Hollis Mason's Arc and New Flaws

Hollis is one of my favorite characters from the original Watchmen, alongside Rorschach, Sally and Laurie (sorry Dan...I still love you) and I was very pleased to see how he was handled here. He is not the near perfect hero figure as portrayed in the original Watchmen--which may turn some people off--and frankly, at times, it felt a little overboard with how Cooke added certain flaws--but at the end of the day, he is still the good natured, just person as he was in the original story. With just some very standout flaws.

3. Mothman!

Out of all characters, I never expected Mothman to be the one to have some great moments. His relationship with Hollis is adorable--and heartbreaking. Byron also gets some well needed highlights in the Watchmen Companion guide--pick it up if you find it!

(That is Hollis behind Byron--yes, he looks exactly like Bruce Wayne. Cooke's style is actually one of my favorites, being a sort of modern take on the Golden Age style of illustration--but, with all great comic artists, he does fall back on the same couple faces from time to time, haha)

Sally also has some good moments I'd say. She isn't a main focus but the glimpses we do get into her are in-character and funny(in a cosmic sort of way...)--I support women's wrongs, especially if it's anything to do with Sally Jupiter.

Overall, if you're still fiending for more Watchmen and can enjoy some non-canon content, give this one a try.

I will get into some aspects I didn't enjoy in this next part. But it doesn't take away from the overall enjoyment I had from the story. Slightly spoiler-y, both nothing too crazy.

-Dollar Bill

I did not like at all how Cooke redid his character. I guess it's fine since Bill never had a real character to begin with, but it goes against what Hollis described in Under the Hood in the original story--Hollis would NOT have hid what a piece of shit Bill was!

-Hooded Justice's Death

Without saying much, I didn't really like this part...many many MAJOR retcons occur...can't say anything else without spoiling!
