Author Spotlight: Jhumpa Lahiri
Introduction
Tumblr media
Follow my Author Spotlight on Jhumpa Lahiri, as I do a deep dive on her books over the next couple of weeks!
📚 Main themes: immigrant experience, identity, and belonging.
📚Lyrical prose, intricate character development
📚Awards:
Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2000: Interpreter of Maladies
Man Booker Prize Shortlist: The Lowland
📚 Translations: She has also translated works from Italian to English. Now she writes almost exclusively in Italian, which, according to me, is a testament to her language skills and versitality!

Ashima’s character in the film really displayed how difficult it is for people to let go of some traditions. Ashima finds it difficult to accept to how different American culture is and that can be seen when she’s constantly wearing sarees and yelling at Gogol for the way he speaks.

Deep (@deep_sarbadhikari) has written an article on the much acclaimed story penned by Jhumpa Lahiri (@jhumpalahiri) in The Namesake. . . The article is also based on the movie which was later adapted by Mira Nair (@pagliji) and has career-best performances by the late Irrfan (@irrfan), Tabu (@tabutiful) and Kal Penn. . . He writes, “One story which resonates the most with me in terms of being close to the family is the story of the Gangulys in The Namesake written as a book by author Jhumpa Lahiri and later directed as a movie by Mira Nair. . . For me, the story of The Namesake is really personal because of a number of reasons because it talks about the family ties, about knowing the real meaning of who you are, about connecting with your roots and about being with your family when they need you. . . Family is the greatest gift ever and that’s why the greatest journeys are the ones that bring you home.” . . Have you read the book or watched the movie? Let us know in comments! . . Check out the entire article, read the book or watch the movie and join the discussion! . . . https://merrative.com/blog_post/the-greatest-journeys-are-the-ones-that-bring-you-home%E2%80%8A--the%C2%A0namesake-1609615396815x129999738644308140 . . . Instead of shouting out a company this week, I want to introduce y'all to some of my favorite authors. There are plenty of David Sedaris' and John Irvings of the world, but not enough Chimamanda's, Paul's, Junot's, Jhumpa's and Imbolo's. I plan on getting my hands on some Ta-Nehisi Coates soon as well. Who are your favorite authors of color? • • • #authors #writers #authorsofcolor #reading #bookworm #doyougiveashit #books #americanah #thesellout #drown #thenamesake #beholdthedreamers

#jhumpalahiri #writer #BirthAnniversary #interpreterofmaladies #thenamesake #journeyoflife #newsportal #WebPortal #news #DigitalMedia #ঝুম্পালাহিড়ী https://www.instagram.com/p/CCflsCOJlb1/?igshid=g51bm8vgiteb

I remember reading The Namesake many years ago. Perhaps I was too young to grasp its beauty, both the book and the movie. Today as I watch it again, in the memory of a true gem, Irrfan, I appreciated it much much more.
“Do yourself a favor. Before it's too late, without thinking too much about it first, pack a pillow and a blanket and see as much of the world as you can. You will not regret it. One day it will be too late."

आपकी पहली फिल्म जो मैंने देखी थी "Life in a . " The Namesake " " The Darjeeling Unlimited" " Karwaan " " Talvar " " The Lunchbox " " The Warrior " काम और लगन ही काफी है । I think both Ashima and Ashoke display how every immigrant parent feels when lecturing their kids. They have high hopes and only want the best for them.

Willa Cather died today 1947
Willa Cather: "I was named for him. He was killed in one of the big battles. I never saw him—never knew him until he had been dead for twenty years. And then, one night, I came to know him as we sometimes do living persons—intimately, in a single moment." https://americanliterature.com/author/willa-cather/short-story/the-namesake
