rare mornings

just a sleepy morning in bed with vanessa 

pairing: vanessa (in the heights) x reader

such a rare occurrence to find yourself awake before her. stretching your limbs before reaching for the first phone you can find on the bedside table, it illuminates the darkness with its pickup hurting your eyes just a little. the lock screen suggested it wasn't yours but Vanessa's phone; she had a text from Nina. you check the time before clicking it off and placing it back down. you're not sure if you should wake her or just let her sleep? if she was supposed to be working, she's gonna end up being late which admittedly Daniela was probably used to at this point but still. with a heavy sigh, you roll onto your side to admire the girl beside you. Vanessa was laying on her front with her head turned away from you; the covers reaching up to her lower hips leaving her bare back on display. she looked so peaceful; vulnerable even which so strongly contrasted the everyday. Vanessa was just so rough and tumble. still feeling the fatigue of yesterday as you just watch her and wait, you begin to feel yourself drift off again. heavy eyelids interrupted by a strained groan as the other woman finally began to stir.

"good morning," you hum quietly unsure if she's actually awake.

"What time is it?"

"uh..." you're not sure how long you've been awake now but it feels like a while. "like eight."

there's a pause as your girlfriend shuffles beside you, burying her face into the pillow. "that's too early."

a tired little giggle leaves your lips, you couldn't agree more. she works a lot, she deserves a little rest every once in a while. "do you want me to go make us some breakfast?"

"no," her answer is so quick you're almost offended but then she shuffles across the bed towards you, snuggling into your side and all is forgiven. "not yet- just... stay with me."

"Alright," Vanessa repositions herself to lay her head atop your chest. she feels very warm against you, you almost want to shove her off.  instead, you adjust. letting your fingers run ever so gently against the skin of her back. just up and down in a slow but steady rhythm. a hum of satisfaction leaving your girlfriends lips. "so i'm guessing you're not working today?" "no, thankfully. I have the next two days off."

"oh," had she told you in advance, you would have planned something. "two days in a row, Daniela was feeling generous."

you can feel the movement of her little laugh against you. "I can be very convincing."

"I'm sure you can," you present her with a smile she can't even see. "so what do you wanna do? I need to hit the bodega to pay back usnavi but then maybe we could go into the city?"

"maybe," she replies quietly. "or we could just stay here."

"lazy."

"it's my day off and I'm exhausted. i deserve to stay in bed all day."

"daniela really working you to the bone huh?" you tease. Vanessa pushes against you, so she's sitting upright.

"fine, maybe we could... you wanna watch a movie or something?"

"here or like go out?"

vanessa shrugs, leaning down to place a kiss against your lips. "whatever you want."

"cinema," you declare. "I'll treat you to dinner too."

"and dinner? really breaking the bank," Vanessa comments, a lazy smile settling on her lips. she runs her hands over her face before they push back her hair. even fresh out of sleep, she looked spectacular.

"swimming in cash this month,"

"is that why you're finally paying off your debt to usnavi?" a throwaway comment. usnavi was nice enough that if you needed something and were running short, he'd just let you have it. but when that happens a lot, it starts to build up. it was about time you paid him back for his kindness.

"between him and my bills, I actually have money left this month. I've been saving and now I wanna treat myself... you're coming along for the ride."

"How charitable of you," Vanessa falls back down against the bed, returning to her comfortable place against your chest. "later though, I wanna sleep more first."

"fine with me," a comfortable silence comes between the two of you as you try to fall back asleep. it's harder now that you've made plans because you're too busy thinking about train schedules and restaurants to just drift off again. Vanessa, on the other hand, seemed to be finding it very easy. pretty much already knocked out against your chest. it brought a little smile to your lips to see how far the two of you had come. you'd been dating for a while now, it was no longer fresh but that's what made it great. you were comfortable. the idea of spending time together was still fun and exciting, you loved the moments you got to actually go out. but you weren't desperate to be together all the time, the two of you worked so much it wasn't feasible anyway. you sometimes visit Vanessa when she's working, it's a good chance to talk to Daniela. a massive gossip but she gave good advice. Vanessa rarely visited you but you didn't mind that, she'd probably be too distracting. "vanessa," you whisper, trying to figure out if she's still awake or not. "Vanessa?" you receive no response. "i... love you." planting a delicate kiss against the top of her head, you lay back down and try to clear your mind to drift off to sleep. just as you start to feel the drowsiness take over, you feel vanessa shift.

"Really?" her voice is low, unsure and you instantly regret having said anything. not because you didn't mean it but because you had thought she was asleep and wouldn't hear the confession. what if it was too early? what if she didn't feel the same way? 

“yeah.... I love you,”

The other woman crawls up the length of you, plants a delicate kiss against your cheek before burying herself in your neck. "I love you too."

Heyyy - so I thought about requesting some ith prompt (au i quess?) Vanessa is used to sleep with an agitated Usnavi, but she starts to notice something is changing when he gets to talking in his sleep and even sleepwalking... Of course, Navi says he doesn't remember anything but is clearly bothered by these visions he is having.

Some quotes, maybe?

"Get back in here... You're going to get hypothermia!"

"Can I get you some coffee?"

"Stop running away from this."

"I said, I'm fine!"

She's gotten used to sleeping with him over time. Usnavi's like a lanky octopus; he's all gangly limbs that get in the way. Vanessa will fall asleep at night with her arms wrapped around his body and wake up with a leg grasped to her chest. Still, she's gotten used to all of his little quirks over time, and that includes his sleeping habits.

Vanessa has not, however, gotten used to chasing a half-delirious boyfriend down the street. "'navi!" she yells, and she curses herself for not having thrown on a robe, "Usnavi! Where are you-"

She finds him huddled at the base of the staircase leading up to their studio apartment, knees drawn up to his chest. Vanessa creeps down the remaining steps and sits down next to him; for once in his life, Usnavi looks... drained.

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES AU WITH VANESSA AS ANNE 😳

I did an Anne with an E AU here, but I didn't consider Vanessa as an option for Anne :/c

Probably because she's not very whimsical and imaginative, although Anne IS known for having a temper (she would ABSOLUTELY smash a mini chalkboard over a kid's head for insulting her) so this could work from a cool angle. Vanessa's an angry girl, and if she was in Anne's position, having been abused and worked to death in past foster homes and orphanages, suddenly getting brought to a nice farm with nice people would be major whiplash, and all the more crushing when they say 'oops, we wanted a boy orphan, not a girl'. Cue the typical 'foster kid rebelling against everything just to make the foster parents send her away because it's gonna happen anyway, let's just speed it up' followed by 'oh no I've caught feelings for this place that's starting to feel like a home, what do???'

Also, I think it would be cute if Daniella and Carla took the roles of Matthew and Marilla for this, cause Mom Daniela is something that we need more of
