The idea that Entry 17 is a True Lab security cam footage during Gaster's experiments while he was reciting what to write in his own entries (also SPEAKING in hands but WRITING normally) and perhaps one of the two others present being an assistant who writes/translates his coded speech into something legible.....is messing me up big time.

I'm not saying I liked all of this video, there are points I completely disagree with. I personally believe Alphys wrote all visible entries, created Flowey, and though doesn't know Toriel personally, knows OF her existence. Other than that though, kudos to this person for adding a twist to this story. The 2 DT experiments is vague since I assume ALPHYS coined the term NOT Gaster, but I also like to believe Gaster made/designed the extraction machine, so he knew of the existence of it. I mean we have to assume he knows of it if he has ANY relevance to the future plot w Souls. Idk, timeline is weird.

Now I'm really thinking the times we read legible Gaster dialogue it's him typing/writing vs speaking to us because we don't hear his garbled voicebit...interesting.

everytime i remember abc_123_a.ogg from undertales files i lose it even more. not only are gasters soundbytes (wng_dng1-7) sampled from it, but one of the tts voices from it reads out "DELTARUNE" at the end of chapter 1, lending even more to the idea that gaster's involved with deltarune's universe! it's also! interesting to note that one of the other anti-datamining files, attention_hackerz_no_2, calls chara into mind! both files were changed in versions 1.001 and beyond (abc_123_a into laugher) and this file changed into...

it's especially interesting/funny considering that the variables attached to this script are titled demona, demonb, demonc, and demond!

Question about Rose - I recently rewatched a few episodes of SU and was a bit surprised by how childish and immature C!Rose was even a few years before she had Steven. I feel like your version of Rose is a bit more mature/empathetic by comparison (even the way she speaks is slightly more sophisticated). Are there events that played out differently or occurred before Steven showed up to cause this difference?

Yeah! This was already touched upon, but basically

1) Rose spent more time with Greg here

2) Greg has severe anxiety due to past traumas, and Rose had to learn to meet him on his level

3) a lot of early Rose interacting with Steven was colored by him being a new gem, and her wanting to make a good impression

4) a lot of 'Rose is more serious' here came after she realized who Steven is/was and she is not necessarily acting more 'mature' as she is acting more cautious and anxious due to him being there. She isn't necessarily empathic until she realizes he IS Steven instead of WD, and even those realizations change her fundamentally.

Nuzi Hellspawns (this took may more time and effort than I wanted it too sobs)

More info on the twins, Scrapped child outfit for Orita & the AO3 comment(er) who gave me the name ideas (bc I'm bad at names lol) under the cut 💕

Orita:

N calls her his "sweet Violet" due to the color of her optics being a light purple

Personality wise she mostly takes after N, however she did inherited Uzis unhingedness so she has her moments

She got Uzi's skill in robotics, engineering and hacking

Her and Uzi help each other with their projects once Orita is old enough to help Uzi (Uzi always helped her daughter when asked ofc)

Once the twins switch to their Teen/Adult bodies, she starts to basically upgrade herself by custom making DD forearms so she looks more like N too

The above point worries N a little because she actually gave herself weapons in them -- N always refused to have her look at his weaponry, having a strict "no weapons around the kids unless it's absolutely necessary" rule.

Because of the above rule, Orita went to V instead because V doesn't mind her looking at her weapons. She thinks it's cool that she's interested in them

Her childhood body used to be Uzi's when she was a kid (same with her Pill Baby body lol)

She placed a sticker of the DD logo on her cores cover as a child to kind of honor her Dad, she loves him dearly <3

N did her hairstyle :3

She probably picked up the phrase "Biscuit" from her dad

He takes more after Uzi with his personality so he's more angsty

He continues the catch phrase "Bite Me" from his mother and Grandmother

He inherited Ns love for animals & cute things and one might catch his angsty persona slip when it comes to that

He has a bad habit of picking fights or getting involved in them

This resulted in his main camera being severely damaged in one confrontation, resulting in him primarily using the Headband optics as camera

Said headband was made Uzi (both of the twins headbands were) because the twins code included Ns "real eyes" / headband optics, which resulted in them having issues with their sense of orientation and depth perception without said optics. They aren't nearly as advanced as their dads when it comes to features and accuracy, but they get the job done

He kinda goes through a "my dad is boring" phase at one point, but that's swiftly put to an end when he actually sees N in action

He had severe problems balancing using WD legs, seemingly not having enough footing to do so. So Uzi made him custom ones based on Ns lower legs so that their son has more surface to stand on and distruste his weight on

The WD symbol on his cores covering ends up scratched up and with chipped paint as he gets older, due to him getting into fights a lot

Both Twins

Both kids inherited the downsides that come with being a DD/Solver user - meaning they can't go out in the sun, have issues overheating and do need to feed on oil (these issues don't start until they are transferred to their first functional bodies. As babies they're fine)

This probably means Uzi went out of her way to improve their internal cooling system a bit

Seeing as Oritas childhood body is that of Uzi, I am debating on if I make Thad child-free and he offered them his for Rexim

This idea comes from me hc N and Thad as having a brotherly bond & feeling like the CoolKids Trio would still be very close later on. Thad is practically the twins uncle :) (he spoils them lol)

oh, I see! That's a fair question....

I suppose WD!AU did take off in a way no other comic of mine has, but that's to be expected given its length alone. I don't particularly care about the details of my own 'internet fame'. I tend to view it as more of a statistic.

WD!AU is popular because people like it, and I'm glad for that, but it's also popular because I've literally been drawing it for over 3 years and there are over 240 comics of it completed. If I was worried about it being My Thing, I could have stopped drawing and let the project mold in the corner, and I could have started drawing something else. (In fact, I HAVE been drawing other things. People who don't give a flying fuck about SU probably don't think of it as My Thing. Some people think of me as a Critical Role fanartist. Which I also am.)

Also, I'm sorry if this upsets anyone, but I'm not drawing WD!AU because I want to please people, or out of some sort of obligation I feel in order to keep my internet fame (which is honestly meager). If I wanted to give it up, I would. I would not care about the hate mail I would get because guess what? I actually get more weird messages when I DO post. 😂 (People telling me the way a story should go, people asking me questions they could have answers to by reading, people telling me what I did wrong with ___ character, or what they think I should have done last chapter, etc...)

I could quit any time and have peace and love on planet earth. Instead I keep on keeping on. Why? I'm having fun drawing the story.

3) Speaking of getting injured, if reader ever gets hurt beacuse of his occupation (someone wanted to get back at him) he wouldn't know what to do with himself. He'll never forget himself if something targeted towards him happened to harm you instead. There are times where he thinks it would be best to break up to keep you safe (noo baby :(( )

4) I'm always talking about badass reader but what if she actually starts panicking? We found the son dead and realize we're screwed so he has to calm us down. (It will never not be funny to me how he was losing his shit over the briefcase but couldn't be bothered to care about WD's dead son)

2) Picking his side in arguments? Tan is confident we'll agree with him when the three of us bicker over something silly, only for us to side with Lem because when has he been wrong? This leads to some funny replies and Tan's overdramatic ass.

3) Giving him a handmade gift? Like a wood comb in the form of a slice of lemon and we painted it to make it look like one? He'd be like a child on christmas day.

I have a question for you (well many questions really, big fan of your blog by the way),

do you think it’s plausible that the Sarkaz created originium?

I ask for two reasons: First, in the “A Walk in the Dust” event (WD-7 after story) it’s mentioned twice that the special blue originium crystals were found in a specific ancient sarkaz ruin (and also that current technology can’t replicate them). Second, that smug sanguinarch goes on a tirade in the main story (11-17 before story) where he says that the sarkaz and everybody else have different origins and that all of terra used to be kazdel. 

This strongly suggests to me that any ancient sarkaz ruin was probably a teekaz settlement or something and that any super hi-tech stuff found within was teekaz technology. So my thinking is that if originium was created by somebody for whatever reason, it was probably them.

While the ancient Sarkaz did create new variants of originium (the diαbolic shards that were used to create Ifrit are another example), I don't think they created originium itself. Not because of anything that disproves it, but because I think there's a more likely option.

There is a different ancient race of people that has been consistently associated with supertechnology: whatever the hell Doctor is. My best guess (with the information we have right now) is that they were the ones responsible, and Kazdel came after.

I was going through my quarterly reread of the comic, and I guess it kinda just hit me how White Diamond!Steven doesn't have nearly as many allies as Canon!Steven did.

Obviously there's Lapis, and how WD!Steven scared her enough that she doesn't consider him a friend, unlike Canon!Lapis who was friends with Steven.

Then there's Peridot, and how events in the story kinda made it so the characters figured out the cluster deal without her help.

Of course it's not as though WD!Steven made no allies/friends, there's obviously Sea Glass.

But it's just really interesting to see how the themes differ from the show to the comic. Lapis' and Peridot's redemption played into the show's themes of second chances, change, and growth. While the comic definitely shares some of those themes, it's really interesting to see how they differ telling them, and how the whole vibe of the show is kinda thrown off as WD!Steven fails to gain the friends Canon!Steven did.

My question is this: was WD!Steven not gaining the trust and friendship Canon!Steven did intentional? Is it, or was it, ever a struggle to not include their redemption arcs when they were both such a pivotal moment(s) in the show?

You know, that's a good question.

I think in a sense it WAS intentional? Because WD!Steven has never been quite as trusting as Canon!Steven. He was far more cautious and less available from the very beginning.

Even when he freed Lapis (doing so out of his sense of responsibility) he didn't quite trust her enough to let her get away.

And the same with Peridot - though he tried to reach out, he would have never been able to let her run loose like Canon!Steven had.

In that sense, Yes! The fact that WD!Steven doesn't trust people enough is a very intentional plot point.

But at the same time, I don't know that I intentionally trimmed his Allies List. I think it was just a natural development of the storyline's progression.

I don't really mind not including redemption arcs that were in the original story because... well... they already happened!

I really love the original show, and I don't feel like it needs to be retold in a different color palette. I'm much more curious to explore the roads not taken. :)

I’m too lazy to format this to look nice or organized, I want to answer the question!!!!

Starting off simple and easy with something your readers wanted to know, DMD. They think you’re not.

DMD:

He pauses where he sits, an uncertain expression on his face that shows he doesn’t know what to do with this comment. He doesn’t deny it or make any notion to show he dislikes it, but he doesn’t seem to claim it with an utmost confidence like he would when he was younger. He smiles nonetheless, “Thanks, I haven’t heard that in a while. I got used to being called Old by the kids.”

Now that that’s out of the way, here’s a question for everyone. This one’s a little similar to a previous question, but different overall. What’s the first thing you would do if you switched bodies with the peepaw who came before you?

DMD:

He cocks his head to the side as he crosses his arms over his chest as he thinks for a moment. When he finishes his thought, he asks, “Is there anyone who came before me? From what I know, I’m the first, aren’t I?”

Yeah… doesn’t work for you.

Reunion:

He taps his chin for a moment before replying, “Do I get to change the warrior outfit? I’ve seen it in passing, and honestly? Not our best work.”

No.

“Then why bother? Big Mama when she was young was tricky to work with. I’d rather stick with my situation.”

That’s not the question.

He slams his hand on his fist and counters, “Then the first thing I’d do is change the damn outfit, have you seen the outfit? He looks like he’s still in the apocalypse!”

LCD?

LCD:

He nods silently for a few seconds before it shifts to a shake of the head indicating disagreement. “I don’t know,” he grumbles under his breath, “Look around, scan what he’s been doing and search for anything he might be hiding. He’s a secretive guy, I’d like to get my hands on anything that explains why he’s so reserved.”

WDS:

“Kill myself.”

AJSJAAJA—wait, At least think for a moment—

He raises his hand to silence any further comments, “Fuck no. Are you kidding? I have my kids, I have my siblings, I have my family. Why would I give it up for some asshole who couldn’t keep himself in line? Seriously? I already hate the idea of everything he has done—why would I put myself in that situation? Death is a better option than being stuck in that guy’s body.”

DisMir:

“WHERE AM I?”

Cut the cameras.

(A)PAF?

(A)PAF:

He looks around cautiously, a furrow of the brow forming as he tries to make some more sense. “There are others? Like me? What are they like?”

The one before you is in his late 20s.

He snorts and quickly slaps his hand over his mouth. Behind his hand he asks, “He’s still a baby?”

Well, what would you do?

(A)PAF shrugs, “I’m not sure… do a few flips and be grateful I don’t feel the usual back or knee pain.”

What do you imagine yourself doing after 5 to 10 years? Like, did you imagine yourself keep doing what you're already doing or get to do something new?

DMD:

He hums to himself before answering softly, “I don’t know…” He doesn’t look defeated, but rather, hopeful. As if the uncertainty of the future is something to look forward to. “Maybe watch the kids grow? Retire as the champion? I honestly don’t know.”

Reunion:

He sighs and counts on his fingers before answering, “Hopefully get the town running without having to hold everyone’s hand.”

LCD:

He swallows. “In the Hidden City, helping the town. Even if they have forgotten my name.”

WDS:

He smiles softly, “Send the kids off elsewhere, watch them grow. Travel the world with Case. The possibilities are endless.”

DisMir:

His eyes are determined, his expression resolute. He knows what he wants and answers in the clearest voice, “Won the war.”

(A)PAF:

Unlike his predecessor, he’s uncertain. He’s anxious and worried and confused, he looks a loss for words. He shakes his head, “I don’t know. There’s this… baby, and I—I really don’t know.”

Big ouch… moving on!

Don’t think I forgot about you this time, DisMir. A reader thought your entrance was badass when you returned to the future. Why didn’t you have that same energy when you fell into the present timeline?

DisMir:

He’s holding the chair like a weapon, ready to strike anything that might move. He frowns and mumbles, “How do you…?” He sets the chair down and refutes, “Wait a minute, it’s not like I planned on time traveling on a random afternoon. It’s not my fault Mikey somehow managed to link our portals together and switched me and the little guy. At least when I returned, I had a warning. That was predictable, but what wasn’t predictable was the first time traveling.”

truly i am not saying this simply for the sake of being mean or a snob but i wish mp100 fans would think more about the type of people they choose to make popular in our community. as a fic reader and writer i've seen all kinds of shit that people come up with and i'm not picky with what i enjoy but you know what i find to be completely baffling? the fact that only a handful of people seem to be willing to be critical of an author who (and i'm not putting this under a read more because you guys need to see how fucking long this is and let it sink in):

wrote touichirou to be even worse than he already is in canon. we're talking about being pro-eugenics, being racist towards serizawa (who is portrayed as blasian), and condoning child impregnation (don't even try to come at me with the whole "well duh he's the villain so what's the problem?!" because let me ask you: why would any of the above be necessary to show that touichirou is a villain? all of this is ultimately unimportant to the fic in question as a whole and imo they're not handled with the necessary care that should entail. something being dark and gritty =/= being better; i thought we've evolved past this mindset). excuse me for disregarding mp100's themes of "it's never too late to change" for a second here, but shit like this makes it extra difficult to buy into his character development post-wd arc. most recently, the author has revealed herself to hc him as having had a white south african mother from whom he learned "his kind of eugenics mindset. outright headcanoning a character to be racist huh? white.

is racist towards serizawa in general actually. the narration is constantly making weird comments about his hair before he starts working at s&s. you see people like REIGEN saying he looks sloppy, and it's never called out.

wrote a graphic sequence where reigen gives birth in a taxi while ritsu watches and helps deliver it. again, it's a completely unnecessary scene and adds nothing to the overall narrative, and it can be very uncomfortable for those faint of heart. also theres a gratuitous r/trei joke thrown in there for good measure.

has very questionable trans rep, according to the trans people i've spoken to. serizawa is implied to have a trans fetish, shimazaki is portrayed as a trans woman chaser (you know for the funnies), and allusions to reigen's transness are mostly through explicit imagery.

is really weird about the kids????? shou is characterized as someone who's constantly making dirty and frankly unsettling comments towards others even when he isn't being aged up, even though that's not a trait he has in canon. he and the others are constantly dancing right up to this really uncomfortable line that stops just short of full-blown gross shit.

WROTE A FIC WHERE REIGEN ASSAULTS SERIZAWA. do you hear me? she wrote a fucking fic where serizawa wakes up to reigen trying to get it on with him. that is assault. this author will tell you that it isn't assault because they're in an established relationship but listen to me: That. Is. Assault.

doesn't tag any of the shit i just mentioned! she doesn't alert her audience to any of these things before she draws in her audience because she's more worried about "spoilers" than actually protecting people. one time someone asked her to tag the fic i mentioned in the bullet point directly above as SA due to being triggered but she refused because they were the only person to have a problem with it (allegedly), and also because they were "rude." wtf. basic fucking decency shouldn't hinge on how polite or rude someone is being, but she has such a huge victim complex despite being 39 years old and too old for this shit that she doesn't even realize it.

again i am not trying to put myself on a soapbox and say that i'm inherently better than anyone but i really am so disappointed in you people. for the most part i find that this fandom is a lot more well put together than a lot of those hellholes out there (save for the standard fuckery that all fandoms are guilty of obviously) but seeing talented artists that i otherwise respect and have nothing against choose to put this person on a pedestal and by extension enable this sort of thing to continue is so disheartening. i'm not trying to attack anyone or accuse them of consciously condoning this content, but please think for a bit before you uncritically recommend it to others just because it has your favorite ship in it or because you enjoy darker and more mature themes.

I'm not sure whether your question was 'who are your five favourite characters who make terrible decisions?' or 'of your favourite characters, which five make the worst decisions?', so I'll give you two lists.

Five terrible decision-makers who I love, emphasis on 'who I love':

Sean Diaz from Life Is Strange 2. Look, I cannot blame this kid for going on the run with his nine-year-old brother. He was panicking, the police were coming, and a police officer had just ruined his entire life, so naturally he was unwilling to stick around and encounter more of them. It was a deeply understandable decision, but it was nonetheless a decision that fucked a lot of things up.

Ellie from The Last of Us. I started loving Ellie in the first game, which was before she started making really terrible decisions. But I still love her after her desperate 'if I kill enough people, I'll feel better, right? right???' quest of the second game, and that definitely means she qualifies for this list.

Jack Shephard from Lost. Jack is a grieving, angry, unstable mess who's been thrown into a leadership position when he's barely clinging onto any form of reason with his fingernails. He has a lot of intense feelings, a gigantic saviour complex, poor self-control and no ability to delegate. Everything he does is a) guaranteed to blow up in his face and b) absolutely fascinating to me.

James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2. Look, if your dead wife tells you to come to a town, and then the town is full of monsters, you turn around and leave. I feel like there was another big terrible decision he made too, but I can't - I can't quite remember. That's weird. I wish I had a recording or something to jog my memory.

Light Yagami from Death Note. Light is very smart, but he's also very proud, and he loves using his own intelligence to convince himself that the correct course of action coincidentally happens to be the thing he really wants to do. Yes, if he kills these people in this way, it'll make him look suspicious. But that's what he wants! It's all part of his ingenious plan to catch L, and totally not just because he wants to send L a personal 'fuck you' message. The 'fuck you' is coincidental. This is a very smart move.

Five terrible decision-makers who I love, emphasis on 'terrible decision-makers':

Seifer Almasy from Final Fantasy VIII. One of the first terrible decision-makers I ever developed a fondness for! Seifer, you can't assist an evil sorceress in taking over the world just because you think it's cool and romantic and you really want to show up your rival at school.

WD Gaster from @zarla-s's Undertale fancomic Handplates. Gaster is an expert in doing terrible things while convincing himself that there's definitely, definitely no other course of action. He's awful and I love him.

Chloe Price from Life Is Strange. Chloe is an absolute disaster in a way I find refreshing from a female character. Playing Life Is Strange is a struggle because I want Chloe to like me, but everything she wants me to do is terrible. I don't want to steal money or shoot people or hang up on my distraught friend, Chloe!

Aaaaand Jack Shephard and Light Yagami again. Fascinating characters. I could watch them making ill-advised decisions all day.

Your scale/graph of Anthro/Intelligent Animal Media brings up some interesting questions about how other furry-adjacent media fits in the system. Zootopia, for example, has enough modern human elements to reach a similar area as Robin Hood, but the characters being animals and the societal structure that creates is a big part of the main plot. Madagascar, on the other hand, has animals that can alternate between bipedal and quadropedal movement, use or even create tools and machinery but, while they can communicate just fine with other animals, in-universe humans can’t understand them, and they maintain the habits and social structure (or at least the general idea) from their IRL counterparts. To an extent that the zoo animals have idyllic aspirations of returning to “The Wild” and abandoning their more humanoid lifestyle.

Zootopia is non-euclidean furryspace! and was in fact the example I was thinking of when I said that if you go any further along the scale than Redwall, you are no longer writing anthropomorphic fiction, you're writing a normal story with anthro characters in it.

(Essentially, I have to respectfully disagree; the characters being animals isn't a plot point, because they're not "animals". They're furries. They are as much "animals" as humans are, ie, yeah but only in a taxonomic technicality. Their animalistic TRAITS are a plot point, but at that point, you're not writing a story about how animals navigate through and see the world, which is an essential part of writing actual anthropomorphic fiction. It's kind of in the name--when a story stops being about ANIMALS with PEOPLE traits, and starts being about PEOPLE with ANIMAL traits, you leave the "anthropomorphic fiction" genre.)

Madagascar on the other hand is a FASCINATING example!

Let's see. The Y axis, I'd place it--oh god dammit i JUST noticed that I never fixed a placement glitch/misclick. Somehow WD ended up further right than Black Beauty and Aristocats which is nonsensical. Fuck. That's gonna piss me off so bad--Sorry. Anyway.

The z-axis (degree of "talking animals" present) SEEMS like it would be the most straightforward. We see Alex trying to talk to humans and all they hear is roaring, so we already know that there's a lot of artistic license going on in terms of what WE see vs what IN-UNIVERSE HUMANS see. However they clearly don't realize this is happening, so I'd put it decently left of center--the animals understand and engage with humans to such a degree that they genuinely believe humans can understand them back.

The thing that makes its placement on the other axes tricky is the aforementioned translation convention. Like....it's obvious that what humans are seeing during Madagascar appears to them to be normal animal behavior. Presumably, they're NOT actually bipedal and that's just an artistic representation of how in-tune the characters are with their instincts at any given time.

On the X axis? Genuinely no idea--obviously they don't have a lot of natural behaviors, but that's because they're born and raised in captivity and have zero forms of natural enrichment in their unbelievably shitty enclosures (just saying). The presence of that translation convention where we KNOW that from a human perspective their behavior is interpreted as not outside the realm of believability makes it difficult.

That being said, the zookeepers clearly are aware of Marty's stash of birthday gifts over the years and Alex implies he was able to PURCHASE or otherwise request his own merchandise so I'm gonna put us pretty far left on the animalistic behavior scale.

This next bit would be easier if I'd phrased the y-axis better--I was genuinely struggling to put it into words, and I don't think I did a great job. Probably it would be better summarized as "animal culture replicates human culture" so we'll use that.

ALL the way at the bottom. It's made clear that there really is no "animal" culture. The zoo animals are fish out of water, but that's because they're New Yorkers dropped in a Madagascar jungle. The lemurs are not exhibiting what we're meant to view as natural lemur behavior; they even refer to Alex starting to exhibit natural behavior as "going savage" in a way they don't even seem to view the fossa hunters. So there's no unconnected, distinct animal cultures going on here. (Or, if they exist in theory somewhere, they are literally never depicted and their theoretical existence is actively denied at every opportunity.)
