[S1E4 SPOILERS, BOOK 1 SPOILERS]

Thinking about the most recent Slarb scene in the Wingfeather show. Yknow the one. Where Slarb is bullied relentlessly, mocked, shoved around, and ridiculed. And, ofc, the violent fist fight he dukes out with Vop. They’re both half naked, damn does that scene have some 🤨📸 poses. And then ofc once he kills Vop he’s surrounded by angry Fangs. Slarb flees, and is immediately grabbed by Gnorm by his throat, and slammed into a wall. That very much doesn’t happen in the books, thus making the scene a lot more intriguing to watch. Slarb is fighting, clawing at the hand choking him out. One shot even shows Slarb’s feet kicking uselessly, just barely unable to find purchase on the floor. Then Slarb has to beg for freedom, using the only piece of information he has that’s useful, completely at Gnorm’s and the Fangs mercy. You can honest to god hear Slarb starting to lose consciousness.

Anyhow, those scenes have inspired me to make more Slarb whump, and maybe actually post it this time. Love y’all, stay safe.

WHO IS THIS PEET BLOKE? Why does he wear so many socks? Why does he have talons? What mysterious trauma led to him hiding in the woods? Inquiring minds want to know! (He adopts children at the drop of a hat and has a Mysterious Past TM (I think??) so clearly he is a fun character.)

HAHA HELLO!!! I received two asks (including this one) about the dear Sockman within minutes of each other, so that was fun XD Glad to see that my obsession with Peet has become Noticeable!

Okayokay, so, Peet is this lovely man:

He’s eating SOUP LOOK AT HIM!!!

His real name is Artham, but for an undisclosed reason he goes by Peet. He wears socks in order to cover up/hide his hands, which don’t… really look like human hands.

You can see that they resemble something a lot more creature-y, and he doesn’t like to show them off. The socks are a good way to hide them—everyone just thinks he’s weird for wearing them over his hands, and they don’t suspect a reason for it.

As to the reason he has talons… if I answered, that would give away many many spoilers, so I will refrain unless you tell me otherwise 😅 Same with his trauma!

YES HE LOVES KIDS!!! He has a special fondness for Janner, Tink, and Leeli, the main characters of The Wingfeather Saga. He’s super protective of them and just… so sweet 🥺 Later in the book series (the tv show is pretty new and there’s only one season so far) he ends up befriending even more children, and it’s the SWEETEST THING AAAAAAAAAAAAH

Mysterious indeed! You don’t really find out exactly who he is/what happened to him until the end of the third book, so he definitely kept me on my toes! He’s an awesome character, and I think—for the most part—he was written really, really well :) There’s a reason he’s now my second favorite character, after all.

I have never seen any of the Star Wars animated series. 👀 but I like my SW in a "limited world" kind of setting, which is why I love the Mandalorian so much - I don't have to know all the lore, and the animated series seem very "We ARE the lore." (But in a very good way! Lore is great.)

LOTR, everyone's beloved. The HTTYD series were so fun! WINGFEATHER MY BELOVED I need to sit down sometime soon and see the season two premiere of the show! Lil update cause it’s been awhile

I’ve only watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 and like half of 3 when they all aired

I’m not a tv person but I think sometime this summer I’m just gonna sit down and binge all of it

Haven’t been active here for a lil bit, but it is still the main thing I think/post about and I check the tag fairly often

I started wingfeather tales back in December and didn’t even finish the first story lol, so I’ll be reading that and posting my thoughts as I go

Hmmmmmm, recently there's been two.

The first is the Kingkiler Chronicle: it's about a orphan bard kid named Kvothe who goes to a magical university to learn about what killed his family, and a big part of the story is truth being uncovered through children's playground rhymes and other folk songs nobody (important) pays any attention to. It inspired me to write some songs for Runaways, especially because music such a big part of the story already! Kvothe is a drama king it's very funny but otherwise not that similar to Runaways. Very good book though.

I've also been really obsessed with the Wingfeather Saga. I found it through the new animated TV show - it got crowdfunded and released for free(!) on the Angel app which is very cool, and I was watching it with my siblings when I was last home. They watch a lot of obnoxious kids shows but I really liked this one. The animation style is adorable and the story was good, but it left me on a plot twist and a cliffhanger so of course I had to go find the book series that it was adapted from. And it's genius.

The story follows the Igiby family as they try to survive under the rule of the evil Fangs of Dang, then go on the run once the Fangs start hunting them down (for plot reasons). The family is a pirate grandfather named Podo, their long suffering and strong mother Nia, the oldest bookish protector, Janner, the impulsive sporty middle child, Tink aka Kalmar, and the Too Pure For This Sinful World youngest musician, Leeli. Both Podo and Leeli are disabled but it's handled in a great way throughout the series. It subverts a lot of the usual fairytale tropes in brilliant ways without ever feeling jarring.

The story is told through Janner's POV mostly, and it is possibly the most relatable oldest sibling experience I've ever read. Please get this kid some hot chocolate and a nap ASAP please I love him. There's a lot of themes about "I am my brother's keeper" and music being the thing that connects the three kids and "remember who you are" with names. The tone is the perfect balance of sincere and heartwarming and terrifying and silly. I want people to feel like this when they're reading Runaways.

There's also a new season 2 poster in their shop, and since it has Peet on it I bought it immediately even though I really don't have extra money to spend this week. xD It also has what I think is the first official/finished look at Maraly?!? Wingfeather saga by Andrew Peterson

Basically Narnia meets LOTR

Fantasy series following three kids as they overthrow a nameless evil and learn a ton of secrets about their family — It’s got death, drama, and monsters 10/10

Doesn’t have smut (or much romance, it focuses on action) and is great for kids and adults— also has a tv series coming out with the people who helped on ATLA
