summary: while searching the Golden Apple Archipelago with Kazuha, he realises how hard he's fallen for you over time. Once you're alone, the wind tells him it's time to confess.

c/w: just pure fluff, kazuha has fallen hard, love confessions and 2.8 event spoilers(? Like, the location and that's it (probably short)

a/n: exploring the islands on the new event made me imagine a ton shit of scenarios and one of those was really cute. I won't tell anything until you read it but yeah, just imagine kazuha seeing you laugh and shine under the sun and he's like: "yeah, I'm deeply in love with them"

While Mona and Fischl were having a competition, Xinyan explained she would be preparing the camp. For your surprise she asked for Paimon's help so she had to stay.

“I'm going to explore a little bit, (name) , would like to accompany me?”

Kazuha's voice grabbed your attention. As always, he was so gentle with everything, even with the way he talked.

“Sure, it'll be better to go together in case you stumble across danger.” You returned his gesture with the same soft smile.

After some time using the Waverider you stumble upon some rocks in the middle of the ocean. These were a little bit far from the other islands but not enough to get lost. As you approached them, you got an idea.

“Hey Kazuha, let's stop there for a bit. I want to try something”

“Are you sure? These rocks are kind of big and pointy. I'll gladly help you reach up but please be careful”

“Don't worry, come on, it'll be fun I promise.” You reassured him with a smile. “Can you try and climb the waverider? I think you'll see me better from there.”

After getting out of the boat, he pushed himself on top while you started climbing up the rocks. He didn't notice how you were taking off your boots and socks and checking out the distance between the rock and the sea.

“Hey Kazu check this out!” His eyes darted to your figure jumping off the rock into the water, a big splash blocking his view until your head popped out of the bright blue sea.

A small yet sweet smile crept up his face when he saw you climbing up again. Oh how much he adored the sound of your laughter through his ears. He could only look at you like a lovesick wanderer.

“As bright as the own sun, dove. You always make me laugh with the cutest things.” His smile didn't falter when you walked up to him with the loveliest smile on your lips.

“Stop with that come on...you always come up with the right words...” You chuckled as Kazuha's fingers intertwined with yours, both faces really close to each other. You took one glance to the red of his eyes when he suddenly spoke.

“I've been trying...to express my own emotions through paper and ink...making haikus day and night. But I don't think words will be enough to express how I feel about you”. Your heart started pounding even harder when he took a hold of your cheek.

“If I try my hardest...would you look my way? Would you accept these strong feelings of someone who once thought that he couldn't love anymore?” His words stumbled a bit but it was clear enough that he felt the same way you felt about him.

Getting part of his clothes wet, you took a step closer, trying to close the space in between with a soft kiss yet full of adoration. It took a couple of seconds for both of you to end it but it was worth it when he saw you smile again.

“I think that you've tried hard enough since the first time we met.”

I'm just gonna assume you're asking only about Genshin ships. I'm a multi-shipper so there will be repeats.

Warning: very VERY long read. I got a bit more extensive than I thought I would.

Ships that have a chokehold on me:

Keqing x Heizou: would hate each other at first, but with enough time and maybe one night of forced deep conversation realize that they have a lot in common? Both are very dedicated to their work, almost to a fault, but have very different working styles

Barbara x Bennett : I'm a sucker for character A chastising character B for getting hurt while they patch them up

Amber x Razor: hc Amber to be 18-20 and Razor to be 17-18 in case anyone's alarmed. It's the bunny x wolf and "outgoing girl helps awkward and closed off boy get out of his comfort zone" for me

Jean x Diluc: fully convinced they're exes and Diluc still has feelings for Jean at least. You can't tell me that one of the reasons he went to the summer islands wasn't to see Jean in her summer fit

Kazuha x Xiangling: mostly QPR, Xiangling canonically sails with the Crux Fleet sometimes so I'm pretty sure they have an established friendship of sorts already

Ayaka x Thoma: am a sucker for royalty x servant type dynamics, they'd be really sweet together, and I totally bought the pre-Inazuma rumors that they were gonna be fiances...

Xiangling x Xiao: all it took was one(1) fic which is now lost forever :( but either way I'm sold now

Mona x Scaramouche/Wanderer: look aesthetically pleasing together, plus I like the bickering between the two of them in the fics I read

Ships I can enjoy:

Bennett x Fischl: mainly for the ship name puns, but also I like their friendship a lot it's very cute

Ayaka x Kazuha: angst edition in which they try to maintain a long distance but after a while Ayaka can't take it anymore and breaks it off. Other than that I think they look really pretty together and they think really highly of each other

Beidou x Ningguang: Lantern Rite 2021 sold me on this ship. Like sure you guys, you just play chess and nothing more. Sure sure sure-

Xinyan x Yun Jin: Lantern Rite 2021 also sold me on it

Katheryne x Wanderer: @probably-impossible has me hook line and sinker it's such a silly ship but also makes so much sense for some reason?? Content for it has died down but I look back on that time fondly

Dehya x Dunyuzard: look me dead in the eye and tell me they aren't dating. You can't

Cyno x Nilou: the fanarts get me every time in a way I can't explain I feel so much feeling whenever I see them that it borders on having a chokehold on me. It's only here because I only feel the feelings when I remember they exist which isn't very often

Albedo x Sucrose: Windblume had me feeling a certain way let's just put it that way

Amber x Eula: similar-ish dynamic to Amber x Razor and admittedly they have more canon content than the aforementioned ship ever will (cri)

Itto x Sara: childhood friends to petty bickering enemies to lovers. Need I say more.

Chongyun x Xiangling: used to ship them in early game because of that one character story where Chongyun accidentally eats a chilli at Wanmin and then apologises to her profusely

Xinyan follows the detective's gaze down to the shore, where Mona is swimming playful circles around Miitoboru.

"She seems real nice."

"Damn right."

"So are you and her...?"

"What!? No. I mean, she's really pretty—" Fi blinks, takes a sip from her hip flask, and settles back into her usual drawl. "That is, she's one looker of a bird, as fine as they get. But a PI can't afford to get attached. Sweet girls like Megs get killed to advance the plot."

"They... get killed?"

"One in four mortality rate. Per book."

ok so no surprise that he hates liyue harbor

he hates anything w a lot of people in it so he prefers to stay at wangshu inn tyvm

but by contrast, you love liyue harbor sm (it’s gorgeous i mean c’mON)

you go there often to retrieve your commissions in order to stay closer to xiao (liyue harbor is closer than mondstadt he argues but you’re well aware that they’re both equally far away)

so if anyone asked, xiao would absolutely refuse to go to the harbor like i hate people??? why would you even ask???

but,,,he’s so sOFT for you

if you asked??? he would agree in a heartbeat

but since he’s >:( angsty boy, he makes you think that he won’t go even when he’s already decided that he’s coming w you

he puts up the “if you so require, then i guess i will assist you with your travels in liyue harbor” but in reality he would definitely have said yes even without the almond tofu

while he hates the harbor, he thinks that with you anything is bearable :,) simp

you take him to see xinyan to vibe w her music and you can tell he really enjoys it

even tho he’s like 🕴 the entire time, you see the softer look on his face and the very slight smile on his lips as he listens to the music and watches the crowd

i do see him as a subtly touchy person in public like brushing the hair off your face, swiping his thumb across your cheek, or gently pulling your hair back when you have a plate of food in your hands

the type to link your pinkies together - he claims it’s so you don’t get lost but yk better

after the concert is done you take him to that one waypoint near mt. tianheng and the both of you just watch the city lights and the way they reflect beautifully on the water surrounding the harbor

personal headcanon that xiao absolutely loves stargazing since he believes the stars are the one true constant in his life especially since he’s experienced so much loss (basically they’ll never leave him god i hate myself why do i make everything SAD)

mini headcanon off of that - he doesn’t stargaze with people,,, like ever

it’s something he loves to do alone so the fact that he lets you stargaze w him and even allows you to shift your head onto his lap while you watch the sky is a huge deal

he loves it when you softly whisper abt how your day was or something you saw that made you laugh

he just loves hearing your voice, it automatically calms the voices in his head

you absolutely ADORE when he has flowers in his hair especially cecilias (cecillias? ceccillias? idfk) and you make a point whenever you go to mondstadt to pick a fresh batch of cecilias just for xiao while enlisting the help of your favorite bard

these soft moments on the mountain are usually when you’ll sweetly tuck in a flower or two in his hair while laughing

he’ll blush fiercely while looking away but will tuck the cecilias in securely as you’re unable to do so due to the position you’re in on his lap

all in all - this was not meant to come out as a date idea but we’re going w it

there’s never a dull moment w this man - if you wanted peace and quiet, why the hell are you dating him bestie???

is the type of person to yell out “Y/N, i can’t believe i ran into you here!” if he sees you somewhere even tho you explicitly told him you were going to be here in the morning (ik you have a good memory ajax don’t lie to me 😐)

i don’t see him as being obnoxious w pda unlike someone else kaeya but he would definitely participate (think: handholding, cheek kisses, an arm around your shoulders)

god made beidou and zhongli just so all of us could have a sexuality crisis

anyways, being w her is hard i will not lie

not bc she isn’t a capable lover - no, quite the contrary

she’s an amazing partner but the problem here lies in the fact that she’s almost never on land

it’s hard working a long distance relationship but y’all love each other so it works out :,)

when she is physically present however, expect to never be bored

she’ll quietly fix the wrinkles on your shirt or fiddle with your fingers in her hands while she recounts her adventures out on sea

she sometimes gets worried she bores you, however the way your eyes light up every time she tells a tale always reassures her otherwise

definitely the type to let you use her claymore if you want to learn

in the privacy of your home, he really likes picking you up

he loves it when you wrap your legs around his middle while he gets up to go do the dishes or smthg

Some language notes on Liyue character & location names

(…that no one asked for but I made anyway These are just based on my limited knowledge as a Mandarin Chinese speaker and some quick research, so please take them with a few grains of salt! If I decide to add to this list in the future, you can also find the most updated version here.)

(Playable) Character Names

Beidou (北斗): 北 = “north”, 斗 = “dipper”; lit. “northern dipper”, aka the Big Dipper

Chongyun (重云): 重 = “layered”, 云 = “cloud”; lit. “layered/dense clouds”

Ganyu (甘雨): 甘 = “sweet”, 雨 = “rain”; lit. “sweet rain”

Hu Tao (胡桃): treating 胡桃 as a single word, it means “walnut”; but the romanization of her name is separated into two parts because Hu is in fact her last name while Tao is her first name. most of the other characters’ last names aren’t specified

Keqing (刻晴): 刻 = “moment” or “to carve”, 晴 = sunny; so we can interpret her name as meaning either “momentary sunlight” or something like “engraved sunlight”

Ningguang (凝光): 凝 = “to concentrate”, 光 = “light”; lit. “concentration of light��

Qiqi (七七): 七 = “seven”; many chinese nicknames (used among family members or close friends) have reduplication, so doubling the 七 makes her name sound a little more intimate/child-like in a way

Xiangling (香菱): 香 = “fragrant”, 菱 = “water caltrop”; lit. “fragrant water caltrop”

Xiao (魈): 魈 is a type of mountain-dwelling spirit in chinese folklore

Xingqiu (行秋): 行 = “to go, to walk”; 秋 = “the fall season”; so we can interpret his name as “the progression of fall” or “journey through fall”

Xinyan (辛焱): 辛 = “strong-flavored, spicy”, 焱 = “flame”; lit. “intense/spicy flame”

Yanfei (烟绯): 烟 = “smoke”, 绯 = “crimson”; lit. “crimson smoke”

Zhongli (钟离): ok this one is gonna be a little long so bear with me lol. unlike most of the other characters’ names, 钟离 is a last name – each individual character in it still has meanings on its own of course, but we should probably think of them as one unit instead of looking at the meaning of each character. in particular, 钟离 is an ancient compound chinese last name, meaning it contains more than one character, which is not very common among modern-day chinese last names. according to one account, 钟离 emerged during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770-256 BC), and nowadays very few people still have this last name

Location Names (mostly literal translations)

There are too many so I didn’t gloss every character unless needed here. Organized by area/subarea.

Liyue (璃月): “glassy/glazed moon”

Bishui Plain (碧水原): “jade water plain”

Qingce Village (轻策庄): there’re a few sensible interpretations for the character 策, but i will go with the meaning “the whipping on a horse”, so the name overall would mean something like “a village where the light whipping on horses can be heard”

Wuwang Hill (无妄坡): “slope of prudence”

Stone Gate (石门): same as english

Dihua Marsh (荻花洲): “reed flower island”

Sal Terrae (地中之盐): “salt in the earth”

Wangshu Inn (望舒客栈): “inn for those seeking comfort”

Minlin (珉林): “jade-like forest”

Cuijue Slope (翠玦坡): 翠 is a jade-like green color, 玦 is a kind of jewelry made of jade, and 坡 means slope

Jueyun Karst (绝云间): “space where clouds die out”

Huaguang Stone Forest (华光林): “forest of magnificent light”

Mt. Aocang (奥藏山): “mountain where mysteries hide”

Mt. Hulao (琥牢山): “mountain where amber is locked away”

Nantianmen (南天门): “southern sky gate”

Qingyun Peak (庆云顶): “peak of exalted clouds”

Tianqiu Valley (天遒谷): “sky-reaching valley”

Qiongji Estuary (琼玑野): 琼 means fine jade; 玑 refers to one of the seven stars in the Big Dipper or alternatively, a pearl that’s not round; 野 means field

Guili Plain (归离原): “plain of return and departure”; this is also constructed from the “gui” in Guizhong’s name and perhaps the “li” in Morax’s name (if he was also called Zhongli back then)

Mingyun Village (明蕴镇): “light-bearing town”

Yaoguang Shoal (瑶光滩): “shoal of fine jade light”

Luhua Pool (渌华池): “pool of clear, magnificent water”

Lisha (璃沙郊): “glazed sand outskirts”

Dunyu Ruins (遁玉陵): “burial place of hidden jade”

Lingju Pass (灵炬关): “pass of mystical torch”

Qingxu Pool (青墟浦): “pool of cyan remnants”

Sea of Clouds (云来海): “cloud-beckoning sea”

Guyun Stone Forest (孤云阁): “lone cloud pavilion”
