I think, the reason Yu Shisan's death hurts the most is because it feels the most inevitable. Part of it is compounded grief (like @vyther15 said in my DMs) and part of it is the fact that he was left behind by all his friends, only to not survive himself (like @xiaolanhua said).

But I think, the biggest thing about it is that it can't be easily fixed. Qian Zhao, Sun Lang, and Yuan Lu can all be saved with a bit of plot armour--stab wounds are survivable until they aren't, same with arrows and exhaustion. Specifically in Yuan Lu's case, there's a fix-it scenario all set up for him to bump into Ning Yuanzhou and Ren Ruyi.

But how do you save Yu Shisan? Yu Shisan, so devastated by loss that he could do nothing but lie on his brother's grave. Yu Shisan, who drank until he fell asleep. Yu Shisan, who has been running all his life and runs from Chu Yue just the same, but saves her in the end. Who, blinded by explosives and facing an entire army, takes up his spear and smiles. And even purely mechanically--how do you give someone enough plot armour to survive an explosion? How do you get him away from all those people he's fighting? Who is there to save him?

In what universe would he be allowed to marry her? And BOTH of them look distraught - he doesn’t have “finally made shizun into a Mrs” look at all! (And he really doesn’t seem like a character to force her into marriage and not like he could; not to mention he was flirting with his to-be wife in today’s eps!) What is going onnnn!!!!!!

Like from the still the vibe is he wants to be there as little as she does!!

About Yu Shisan - "A Journey to Love" ep.39 SPOILERS

"One day you'll find your match" "Impossible! I'd rather die. … But if I really did that, then I'd have been together with her for the rest of my life."

Yushisan! Look, I edited out the blood in these (to avoid the content flag); are you happy?😂

But this scene. "Yu Shisan, the most beautiful man in the world," who felt up his face after battles to check for cuts, after finding out he's lost his eyes and his face was covered in blood and cuts... If he hadn't already been prepared to die, can you imagine his emotional loss then?

1 - He couldn't bear to die, as he probably thought his wounds left him: "ugly," so he prettied himself up, even in the middle of the battlefield, the best he could. He was going to go down, but dangit he would look good at it! (and he did😭 LBR, that scene was COOL!)

2 - But he was also "Yu Shisan, who enjoys looking at the prettiest women," and I think artists can relate to this sentiment, this particular feeling of loss, that would be not only not being able to see in general, but not being able to see beauty anymore.

3 - He's the only one (aside from Ruyi) whose dead body we do not see. This is very in-character of the narrative. I don't think he would have wanted anyone to see him like that. He'd have liked people to remember him looking good, unmarred. So it fits that Chu Yue, being temporarily blinded by the explosion, never even saw him wounded.

Why do I keep feeling the need to write posts about Alen Fang's characters? 🤔 This show-stealer... 😂 *goes to watch another of his dramas*

OKAY i've had like. a few hours to process the emotional damage that a journey to love has dealt on me and i've decided to focus on the fact that they gave me the one other thing i really wanted from the show (besides all of my ldt boys being happy and ALIVE) which was for li tongguang to call ning yuanzhou 师丈. i can live with that.

We all know at this point that the name Astarion is connected to the word "star" (starry or little star).

But Larian decided that they wanted to go all in with the details and they delivered!

The flower you can place on his tomb in the final romance scene (which I think is such a cute and tender gesture and I love his reaction to it), seems to be an Ornithogalum umbellatum, a star-shaped white flower with six petals. Among the plant's many common names, there are summer snowflake, starflower, and star-of-Bethlehem.

Moreover, in the language of flowers, its meanings are related to trauma, mourning, and welcoming pain without repressing it.

According to Doctor Edward Bach (1886 – 1936), these flowers are "For those who find themselves in a state of great anguish due to situations that, in a given period, have caused so much unhappiness", and can be used to help with the aftermath of a trauma, the alleviation of pain and the mourning process.

qian zhao calling yuan lu "didi" with his dying breath has truly truly wrecked me.

chai ming spent his whole life badgering his older brother and slowly worming his way into his heart. remember when yuan lu was giving his ruyi-jie advice on how to win over his ning-tou'er? he said his ning-tou'er didn't like him at first either but he just kept bothering him and never leaving him alone and eventually ning-tou'er accepted him. since yuanzhou and qian zhao have known each other for 20 years i think it's safe to assume that yuan lu did something similar to his qian-dage.

qian zhao's little brother chai ming called him "dage" every chance he had. qian zhao's little brother yuan lu calls him "dage" every day.

qian zhao promised himself that once chai ming turned 20 he would accept him and call him "didi"... except he never got the chance to, and he spent the rest of his life regretting it.

yuan lu is not going to live to 20. qian zhao is not going to live to tomorrow. and he is not going to make the same mistake twice.
