concept: ADA!Chuuya, but All Men Are Equal gave him total control of his ability by stabilizing it and getting rid of his permanent singularity, so he reverted to his original power: enhancing others' abilities.

just thinking about the whole "what if Chuuya joined the detective agency along with Dazai?" and imagine him getting roped into Dazai's game of making everyone guess what their former jobs were (especially Kunikida)

I've been having a lot of reverse!skk thoughts lately.

Setting up some context: Oda never died during the Mimic arc. Dazai still unravelled Mori's plan and now there's a huge rift between them. Dazai never trusted Mori completely, and now he barely does. Their dynamic had turned into a power play between them.

Oda's kids still died. Oda lives having survived his suicidal massacre but the weight of his loss and the blood on his hands weighs on him. He is no longer a pacifist. His dream for writing a novel is gone. Dazai has tried to help him, but he can barely help himself so he's kinda bad at it.

Ango's hanging out with the government now! No one trusts him :/

Chuuya leaves a few months after the Mimic incident. He comes across a set of documents proving Mori's involvement with the Arahabaki project as well as his personal tied with the military doctor that is Chuuya's real father. After failing to kill Mori for his betrayal, Chuuya is now a traitor. No one knows why he tried to suddenly kill the Boss, but the incident itself is whispered throughout the entirety of the Mafia. People point to Chuuya's origins in the Sheep as proof that he was a traitor all along, bidding his time.

Dazai doesn't know why. Its driving him crazy.

Chuuya thinks Dazai knew the entire time. They're a mess of zero communication.

Chuuya spends his time hiding out in different parts of the world (he's got friends in the UK so there's that!) He looks for his parents and finds them, only to leave them behind like he's done in canon. He's aware the Mafia is keeping tabs on them, but that's not the only reason why he left.

He gets a little reckless, beats up some bad guys. He doesn't know exactly what to do with his life, so he's kind of mess.

His little vigilante spree reaches Chief Taneda, who sends Ango to keep tabs on him and offer him a job. Can't have a former military experiment of infinite power running around without supervision.

Chuuya, uh, does not take the offer well (poor Ango).

Chief Taneda finally confronts him in person, says if he wants a job Taneda knows a guy who is not affiliated with the government and whom Chuuya might like (received almost as badly, but Chuuya considers it).

While Chuuya's mulling over this weird offer, he runs into a human trafficking organization that was in conflict with the Sheep back in the day. He's got an excuse to beat up more bad guys. Guess who he ends up running into (yes it's the Agency).

More specifically, it's Ranpo! They squabble, they team up, the works. Ranpo is like "Do you want a job" and Chuuya is like "That's sus but I'll think about it" (he does in fact want it)

Chuuya ends up meeting the other Agency members before he agrees (Ranpo 100% has nothing to do with that. Totally.) He likes them. He thinks they're all insane. He misses having people around who aren't there to double cross him. He takes the job.

Enterance Exam! I'm so sorry Kunikida.

Chuuya avoids the PM like the plague.

And then he meets Atsushi.

Benefit of the Doubt

Premise: ADA!Chuuya and ADA!Dazai, both going straight after a life in the PM, but they don't know each other.

Chuuya had a hunch.

A grave, destructive hunch whenever he saw Dazai's eyes darken when he thought all heads had turned away.

The Agency was ruthless, but only when it needed to be. It had been carved into them, one way or the other.

Switching sides was more than shedding a coat, but symbols made it easier to draw a line in the sand.

This is who you are |This is who you were

Now, in face of the truth, Chuuya sometimes wondered if Dazai abhorred black for the same reasons as he did.

If he looked in the mirror and realized how dangerously easy it would be to just slip into the grooves of what they had once been.

If his sins were the demons that kept him up at night.

Or if it was the mistakes, the losses, the screw-ups that writhed and crawled in his veins, failure a bone-deep, burnished black he would never cleanse his hands from.

Chuuya would wade through an ocean of corpses if it meant the Agency's safety.

Those two years had been so lonely. Hanging between the underground and the surface world like a stray mutt who had been only trained to kill, kill, kill, and knew nothing else.

Waiting for the light had been so lonely.

Surely, Dazai knew what it felt like.

Chuuya didn't know Dazai, but the Agency had given him the benefit of a doubt when he'd first joined, and then time and time again as a fully qualified member.

Assholery did not guarantee suspicion, and unless and until he gave off the slightest hint of malice, Chuuya would find it in himself to keep making excuses for him.

Chuuya’s so funny because he literally shows up to do the bare minimum (unless Dazai is involved).

Like mfkr, you’re the strongest person in the world, what do you mean “oh no! he sliced through the helicopter blades! What are we going to do?!”

Your power is near limitless. Take your pick of defensive techniques. Throw him to space. Grind him to dust. Carry the helicopter away???

Why are you making people jump out of planes and sacrifice their lives when you can juggle the opps until their brains are mush?

He’s like “Mori said let them on the helicopter. I did my part.”

Dazai doesnt belong in the pm. he never did. heres why

in the pm, dazai calls chuuya his "dog". akutagawa is referred to as "the rabid dog of the port mafia". when we first meet akutagawa, he calls higuchi "a useless cur" (cur means an agressive dog or one in poor condition). we can see that the port mafia is full of dogs.

in The Day I Picked Up Dazai, oda refers to seeing dazai as a stray cat (i think). almost every headcanon associates dazai with being a black or stray (or both) cat.

and then we have the ada.

one of their employees litterly turns into a tiger. the president is obsessed with cats.

in the pm, dazai was a stray cat in a den of dogs. thats why he fits in/cares about the ada. he fits there, feels at home.

can you imagine ADA!Chuuya. it's a quiet day in the ADA office bc Dazai's been out handling tasks and Chuuya's getting some paperwork done when he suddenly feels a Bad Vibe™ and he and Kunikida IMMEDIATELY make eye contact across the room.

(—two seconds later Dazai strolls in.)

Chuuya and Kunikida don't say a single word. they just communicate with their eyes like

Chuuya: 👀 i thought u said he'd be gone the WHOLE DAY Kunikida: 👀 HE WAS Chuuya: 👀 WHY IS HE BACK ALREADY Kunikida: 👀 IDK?? Dazai: are u guys having a staring contest

Dazai: wowww so i was out doing work while u guys were busy gazing into each other's eyes...tsk Kunikida: 👀 do something about this we still have 4 reports that need to be done by end of day we can't have him distracting us from the deadline Chuuya: 👀 wdym YOU do something i just got hired
