just thinking about the whole "what if Chuuya joined the detective agency along with Dazai?" and imagine him getting roped into Dazai's game of making everyone guess what their former jobs were (especially Kunikida)
Kunikida, watching skk bicker: btw did you guys know each other before this? Chuuya: unfortunately yes Dazai (at the same time): thankfully no Kunikida: ??? skk: Chuuya: ...sorry i meant no? Dazai (at the same time): just kidding! yes we did skk: Kunikida: ?????
Kunikida: were you guys students? Dazai: no Kunikida: factory workers? Dazai: no Kunikida: you guys weren't like. criminals of some sort right? Dazai: nope Chuuya, whipping his head to look at Dazai: ???????
Kunikida, praising them after a mission: good work today! btw how did you know PM's routes so well? Chuuya: tbh that's bc we used to w— Dazai: —ander around that area :) Chuuya: ??? Dazai: well Chuuya did. bc he was a bad bad boy who liked to hang out after dark in shady places and wouldn't listen to me when i told him the mafia is a very scaryyy place with very scaryyy people~ Chuuya: ?????
Kunikida: so you guys used to work together? what'd you guys do? any notable projects? Chuuya, thinking about him and Dazai destroying an entire enemy organization overnight at age 16: Chuuya, thinking about various other crimes they've committed: Chuuya, nervously sweating: um. well,,

kinda wild to me that one of the most compelling aspects of both Chuuya and Kunikida's characters to me, that I never really see talked about, is how they're heavily set on a doomed crash course towards complete and utter destruction, and how I am so, so worried for them both.....
#bungou stray dogs#been thinking a lot about chuuya lately (shocking for me i know (said with no sarcasm truly lmao it is rare for me))#cause of the 15 manga and also playing the fucking jeht quest in genshin impact ugh (where's the one dual genshin bsd fan who Understands)#but like this pressure has been building up for chuuya for so long due to being used and manipulated by all these people#first the sheep then mori then verlaine then still mori now#he was groomed since childhood just like dazai#but unlike dazai he didn't have an oda to help him get out of the mafia........ he's still stuck there#and his personality is different from dazai's. dazai was more self-aware imo (but still a groomed emotionally abused kid don't get me wrong#but chuuya's whole thing is needing to belong and wanting a leader to be loyal to but ending up in positions of leadership himself#which makes him feel pressured but he accepts and stifles any negative feelings just because he wants to belong#and all this crushed him with the events in the light novels and yeah he went through character growth but he's...... Still In The Mafia...#and that fucking scene asagiri added to the cannibalism stage play i don't think hardly anyone even knows about bc IT'S NOT DISCUSSED ANYMO#where mori emotionally manipulates him with the flags!!! and it deeply hurts him!!! and he presumably deals with that shit all the time!!!#it is WORRISOME. it WORRIES ME okay.#chuuya doesn't have anyone who can save him from the mafia (dazai is in no position to okay; it's all he can do just to try to save himself#and it's so so scary. it spells awful things for him.#didn't asagiri say he'd have a rough path or something??? and he added that fucking scene in the play!!! it haunts me!!#i fully expected this shit to hit a turning point in the meursault arc but we can't have nice things i guess#and as for kunikida a;lskdfl (took me this long to get to him oop) literally the ending of Entrance Exam (the novel) is just#One Big Foreshadowing for Kunikida's downfall#he's compared to the azure king for a reason. Sasaki saw the azure king in him for a reason. it's fucking worrying!!!!!#there hasn't really been anything like that since in the manga (just like for chuuya lol ugh) but he's TERRIBLE at coping with his trauma#and it only gets more apparent once shit hit the fan in the doa/hunting dogs/meursault arc#it's not good!!! i'm worried for kunikida too!!!!#even if the manga isn't focusing on this these worries are always in the back of my mind man#both kunikida and chuuya are doomed to hit some kind of breaking point eventually and i await those moments with dread yet anticipation#i want dazai to be able to save kunikida from the despair being too good a person brings the way he couldn't save oda#and chuuya.... if we get a scene with him & mori mirroring the one in dark era where dazai finds out that mori orchestrated the kids' death#oh man i think i'll fucking die (give it to me i need to cry)

Ranpo
Tumblr media
Scenario: Ranpo had deduced that a criminal hideout was located in an old abandoned coal mine. You had accompanied Ranpo on his investigation as his “Bodyguard” of sorts, in case anything went down hill…and sure enough, something did.
**THUD**, the loud sound of your two bodies falling and crashing together filled the dark mine, the ground underneath you had crumbled, causing the two of you to fall into a small, cramped hole.
“Ugh…my head…”, Ranpo said with a pained and annoyed tone.
You opened your eyes but were faced with pitch darkness, “I can’t see anything…”
Ranpo scoffed, “Well of course captain obvious, the force of the fall caused the flashlight to go out, it also caused you to fall on top of me.”, he was clearly annoyed with the current situation.
You tried to move, but stoped as you heard a quiet groan leave Ranpo’s lips.
You were confused, was he hurt?
“Hey Ranpo, Are you alrig-“ “Don’t move.”, he cut you off with a stern tone.
You were stunned, you didn’t understand why his tone suddenly changed, “What? Wh-“, you froze as you felt something under you, something hard was poking you.
You knew exactly what it was.
The realization made you blush profusely, you jumped up in surprise.
Another groan left Ranpo as you landed back on his lap, his hands gripped your hips to keep you still.
“I said don’t move.”, his voice sounded annoyed but you could hear a hint of embarrassment.
You sat still on him, flushed and embarrassed at your current position, how were you going to get out of here? You can’t move, there’s no light, you can’t just stay like this forever…
The flashlight beside you flickered, and the light revealed your current position.
As you looked down, you were faced with Ranpo’s expression; his cheeks were flushed, eyes were open, as his hair was sprawled on the floor messily, an annoyed yet embarrassed frown was plastered on his face.
“Grab on to that rock above you and try to climb out.”, Ranpo spoke with a stern voice, letting go of your hips.
You snapped out of your trance and quickly nodded, you did as he asked and eventually made it out of the hole.
“Now pull me out.”, Ranpo instructed with a quiet tone as he stretched his hand up so you could take a hold of it.
You took his hand and pulled him out, he was surprisingly lightweight…
Once you two stood up and brushed off your clothes, you looked at each other, blush still decorated your cheeks…
“Ranpo I-“, “Let’s postpone this investigation…”, he said quietly as he turned away and started walking, you quickly followed behind as you both made your way out of the cave.
You swear you could see a soft pout on his face as you both walked silently.
You two never spoke of that incident again, often avoiding each others gaze. Although he’ll never admit it, he loved the feeling of you on top of him and would give anything to feel you like that again…
Dazai
Tumblr media
Scenario: You and Dazai were a troublemaking duo who often would prank others and cause mischief just for the hell of it. So it was a surprise to no one as you two ran across the agency building, trying to escape a furious Kunikida who didn't seem too pleased with you messing around with his notebook. In a split second decision, Dazai pulled you into a small, dark, and cramped storage room, shutting the door and covering your mouth.
“Mmm?!”, you let out a muffled noise of confusion, as a strong hand covered your mouth.
“Shh...”, Dazai spoke, and you looked up; your eyes meeting Dazais, the silence broke as you two let out a quiet snicker.
As the quiet laughter ceased, you moved Dazai's hand away from your mouth, “Do you think he saw us hiding in here?”, you whispered.
“I doubt it, we are way faster than he is.”, he whispered back.
“He looked so mad!”, you said with a faint giggle.
“I know! I'm pretty sure I saw him foaming at the mouth!”, Dazai muttered with an amused tone.
Quiet footsteps could be heard down the hall...
Dazais hand swiftly returned to your mouth, keeping you quiet.
You scooted closer to Dazai, your chest pressing against his, trying to avoid being close to the door-
“Mnh...’, a low moan left Dazais lips, your eyes widened at the noise.
You slowly looked up at Dazai with confused eyes, his face flushed in embarrassment as your eyes met.
At first, you didn't understand what he was groaning about- that's when you felt it...a soft poke against your crotch.
Your face burned red at the realization, you were quickly snapped out of your thoughts as the footsteps grew closer.
Your breath hitched as the footsteps stopped right in front of the door, a shadow could be seen under the door.
Dazais arm wrapped around your waist and pulled you closer, making you both groan.
You both slapped each other's hands on one anothers mouth to shut each other up, you both stared at each other, wide eyed and not knowing what to do or say...you were both close...so close...
The door swung open, startling the two of you, quickly letting go of each other, “THERE YOU TWO ARE! I OUGHTA BREAK YOUR NECKS!!”, Kunikida yelled.
No snarky comment left Dazais lips, nor yours as you both quietly walked out of the storage room.
“Uh?”, Kunikida was muddled as he saw the two of you just- walk out; uncharacteristically quiet, avoiding eye contact with each other, as flush decorated your faces.
“Jeez, What happened in there?”, Kunikida asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Nothing.”, you both said with an embarrassed tone as you turned around and went your separate ways.
You both made an unspoken agreement to never mention what happened in that storage room, but you both sure as hell won't forget about it any time soon...
Chuuya
Tumblr media
Scenario: It was a busy Monday morning, all of the port mafia employees ran around going on missions, conversing important information and such. Ironically, for a big, rich company- the port mafia’s elevators were pretty standard size, which did not work well with how many employees worked in the building. As you entered the elevator, a flood of employees entered as well, making the elevator pretty cramped…pressing you against a certain mafia executive…
“Oof”, you let out a soft grunt as your body collided with someone else’s.
You quickly turned around, “Agh, sorry…”, you mutter out an apology, your eyes widened as you finally saw who you bumped into.
The man brushed his vest off, “It’s fine, no worries the elevator is pretty cramped.”, Chuuya reassured you.
You quickly fixed your hair and looked down, avoiding eye contact, feeling a bit nervous standing in front of a higher up, especially one of the five port mafia executives…he could easily get you fired if he wanted t-.
Your thoughts were interrupted as another swarm of employees entered the elevator.
Everyone in front of you moved back to make more room, causing you to get pushed back against Chuuya.
Chests pressed tightly against each others as his hands instinctively found their way around your waist.
Chuuya held back a quiet moan, covering his mouth with his hand as his face turned as red as his hair…
You didn’t dare look at him as you felt his hands on you, you know it wasn’t on purpose…the elevator was just too cramped, yeah that’s all-
A soft poke by your crotch made your mind go blank, your eyes trailed down and you could see a small tent in his pants, clear as day.
Your mind ran 1000mph at this point, your heart skipping beats as you internally panicked.
**DING**, the elevator doors opened.
Chuuyas hands left your waist, snapping you out of your trance.
You turned and looked at Chuuya as he quickly walked out of the elevator, his hand tilted his hat down to cover his eyes but failed to cover the deep shade of red on his cheeks.
You were left alone in the elevator as his figure quickly disappeared amongst the crowd…
Though that interaction was short lived, it greatly affected the way you both viewed each other now…who knew you would have such a memorable experience with a port mafia executive?
Fukuzawa
Tumblr media
Scenario: You and Fukuzawa were enjoying a nice stroll around Yokohama, the beautiful scenery only added to the peace and comfort you felt as you walked together. A soft meow caught the attention of you two, looking up, you saw a small cat stuck on a tree. You were both instantly struck with the need to help the poor kitten, which explains why you were now seated on Fukuzawas shoulders…
“A little more to the right!”, you instructed Fukuzawa as you tried your best to get closer to the kitten.
“Mm.” Fukuzawa nodded and did as you asked, slightly moving to the right.
“Okay stop! Keep steady…”, you spoke softly as your hands started moving forward towards the cat.
“Here kitty kitty, I won’t hurt you…let’s get you down.”, you said with a reassuring tone as you slowly reached for the cat.
“Be careful, don’t agitate it or make yourself seem like a threat.”, Fukuzawa said with his usual calm tone as he looked up at you; his hands firmly held your thighs, keeping you steady.
“Yeah yeah I know! I’m not going to agitate it, right little kitty-YAOWW!!”, a yelp left your lips as the cat swiped its claws, scratching you with a hiss.
In the midst of the attack, you lost your balance as your body squirmed atop of Fukuzawas shoulders, causing him to lose his footing as you both fell down.
You opened your eyes with a soft groan, “Ow…my head…Fukuzawa, are you okay?-“, you froze.
It seems when you both fell, you landed on his lap…straddling him as he laid on the ground.
His silver hair was sprawled on the grass as his soft blue eyes gazed up at you.
You were oddly mesmerized and couldn’t seem to look away, that’s until you felt something under you…faintly growing.
Within a split second, you got off his lap and stood up straight, your face was flushed as you bowed and apologized.
“I am so so so sorry! I didn’t do it on purpose I swear, I lost my balance and- it was the cats fault!!”, you rambled on apologies and excuses in a state of embarrassment.
Fukuzawa let out a soft chuckle then cleared his throat, “It is quite alright, no need to apologize.”, he said as he stood up, looking up at the cat.
“I do suppose it wants to stay up there, why not let it be?”, Fukuzawa softly smiled and walked the opposite way.
You felt a bit confused and still flushed, but relieved he didn’t seem to make a big deal of that…incident- you quickly caught up to him.
“I heard a new bakery opened up on this side of Yokohama…”, your conversation faded out as you both continued your lovely stroll.
Even though that incident was a bit lewd, you both decided to just forget about it and not let it come between your friendship…although- part of you still wonders if he liked it, considering how excited he got with just a small touch…
₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚. ₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚. ₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚. ₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚. ₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚.
I had huge writers block in coming up with scenarios since I didn’t want to just reuse the same old ones.
I wanted each scenario to represent the character well and such.
Thanks to some help from my friend, I was able to come up with these!
Anyways! As always, I hope you all enjoyed these head-cannons, love y’all!<3

WHEN YOU LEAVE TO GO ON A LONG, DANGEROUS MISSION
ft. dazai, chuuya, ranpo
p.s.! sending hugs + kisses to the lovely anon who requested <3 !! sorry i kinda got carried away :’)
Tumblr media
DAZAI
when he’s strategizing and realizes you’re the best suited member of the agency for the mission, his heart drops. he knew being in a relationship with his coworker would come to this eventually, but he’s always been selfish.
he didn't know how he could make it that long without you. he's used to keeping an eye on you, always listening behind his headset, but this time you'd have to be on your own and he hates it.
he pores over the details of the case, forcing the logic to piece together that you’d be okay. he desperately tries to ignore the voice in his head telling him that you’d be taken away from him just like everyone else
it takes every part of him not to cling onto you when he kisses you goodbye. he sends you off with a smile, and it drops as soon as you’re gone, a stiff frown settling in its place.
there’s a noticeable emptiness without you around. his futon, just barely able to fit the two of you wrapped around each other, suddenly feels too big, and he can’t sleep.
instead, he stares at the moon and wonders if you were as restless as him, looking at it too. it made him feel connected to you, even if you weren’t doing the same.
he talks to you about his day as if you were next to him, just to ignore the crippling loneliness he thought he’d starved off for good.
he acts out more than usual, overcompensating for his lack of attention, even if it came in the form of a hard smack to the head from kunikida.
his stomach gurgles angrily at him, and he realizes there isn’t anyone around to make him a proper dinner anymore. he can’t be bothered to cook and falls back into old habits, opening bottles of sake and cans of crab. he knows you’d be mad if you were there, and the thought of you scolding him to take better care of himself makes him smile.
Tumblr media
dazai hums as he flips through his suicide book, words familiar enough that he didn’t bother turning on a light to read them. he knew you’d be back home any day now. your message to the agency that you were safe had lifted a weight from him, but he wouldn’t be completely satisfied until you were in his arms again.
he pauses when he hears the lock turn in the door, sitting up with big, blinking eyes. its felt like an eternity without you, it almost feels unreal that you could really be back.
when he sees you in the doorway, he can’t even bare to move. his face breaks out in a lovesick grin, and he opens his arms wide. your suitcase is abandoned in the doorway as you run to him, knocking him back against the soft cushion of his futon.
his hands cradle your head, kissing you everywhere he can reach. “i’m so happy you’re home,” he still isn’t used to saying that word. “i missed you so much it nearly killed me.” his lips are curled into a smile when he nuzzles into your chest. he shakily exhales when you gently scratch against his scalp as he intertwines his legs with yours, pulling himself closer to you.
“i missed you too,” he’s so happy to hear it, his cheeks ache from smiling so hard. “were you okay while i was gone?”
“shhh,” he holds a finger up to your lips, suppressing a shiver when you kiss his fingertips. “that doesn’t matter now, my love! can’t we just enjoy being together again?” he hears you sigh, and he knows you see right through his poor attempt at deflecting, but it doesn’t matter, not when he finally has you in his arms again.
Tumblr media
CHUUYA
when he hears the news, he assumes he's going with you. it’s no big deal, he’s actually kind of excited. when mori tells him otherwise, he thinks it’s some kind of joke.
he knows it can’t be helped, but he’s still pissed, thinking of being without you for so long, not knowing if you were safe. he doesn’t even want to think of something bad happening to you, but the thought creeps into his mind, dark and icky.
the last thing he wants is for you to think he doesn’t trust you, so he keeps his anxieties inside, helps you pack, and reluctantly kisses you goodbye. it takes a few muttered “just one more?”s before he finally lets you go.
it takes a while for him to adjust to you being away, and he desperately hopes he never has to get used to it again.
he has to stop himself from grabbing two wine glasses each night when he comes home, putting yours back with a resentful frown.
he hugs your pillow in place of you each night, hoping you come back before your scent leaves.
he lights your favorite candles, plays your favorite songs, finds himself ordering your favorite take-out just to have pieces of you around.
when he finishes a job and comes home with cracked, bleeding knuckles, he bandages them alone, pain so much worse without your kisses to make it better.
Tumblr media
chuuya had long since left his spot on the couch, pacing back and forth in his living room. your flight had landed, and it was only a matter of time before you arrived home.
he runs to the door as soon as he hears the knob turn. he doesn’t even let you put your bags down before he’s wrapping his arms around you, squeezing you against him. “i missed you so fuckin’ much.” he presses his lips to yours, practically melting into you when you bury your fingers in his hair. “how are you?” he pulls away, looking you up and down. “are you hurt anywhere?”
you shake your head, giving him that smile he’s missed so much. he picks you up, holding your thighs as your arms circle around his neck, your bags floating behind him with his ability. “what d’you want? bed? bath? i’ll get you anything.”
“just want you.” you mumble into his neck. the answer knocks the air out of him, and he forces himself to take a deep breath, holding you even tighter. he drops the bags in front of the closet, and scoots back against the bed, sitting against the headboard, still cradling you in your arms. you’re already halfway asleep, exhausted from the plane ride home.
“get comfortable,” he presses a kiss to your temple, floating your favorite blanket closer. “‘cause i’m not letting you go again.”
Tumblr media
RANPO
he didn’t care much for the details of the mission, until it was decided that you were going.
he’d thrown somewhat of a tantrum, demanding for fukuzawa to change his mind, but he knew it was useless; you were the only one in the agency who could pull it off.
he can’t even brag about how badass his s/o is when it comes at the cost of you leaving him.
when it’s time for you to go, he resists the urge to cling to your leg like a child and beg for you to stay. instead, he hugs you tightly, imprinting the feeling of your body in his. “come back safe,” he whispers, nose nuzzling into your neck. “please.”
he’s especially grumpy when you’re gone. he eats his breakfast by himself with a pout, apartment eerily quiet, food not nearly as good as it was when you cooked it.
he hates how much space there is in your tiny bathroom without your body next to his while he gets ready for work, glaring at your untouched shoes in the genkan on his way out.
and how exactly is he supposed to sleep well when he doesn’t even get a goodnight kiss??
cases thrown to the side for being too boring are now accepted; anything to keep his mind off of you not being around, or worse, you getting hurt.
he still buys your favorite snacks, an accumulating pile on your desk waiting for you when you return (he only eats a few of them)
Tumblr media
ranpo knows exactly when you’ll be arriving home. he checks the time persistently, bouncing his feet as it gets closer. he doesn’t even wait for you to get settled; as soon as you’re through the door, he jumps into your arms, wrapping his legs around you like an oversized koala bear. “well?” he looks up at you, not bothering with greetings. “what are you waiting for? you have a lot of kisses to make up for, you know!”
he beams as you scatter kisses across his cheeks, dimpled from his big smile. you place a final one on his lips, putting him down to search through your bag. you say something about foreign snacks, but he can’t pay attention, his childish impatience gnawing at him. he’d been so deprived of your attention, and now that you’re here, you’re already distracted.
he wraps his arms around your back, forehead resting against the middle of your shoulder blades. “don’t leave again,” he says quietly; if it wasn’t for the silence of the room, you might not have heard him. “it’s not fair for me to be alone for so long.”
“i know,” you turn around to face him, and he crawls into your lap as soon as you do, his green eyes wide open. “i missed you.”
he peeks at you through his bangs. “how much?”
“so, so, so much.”
he smiles, grabbing your hand and pressing a kiss to your palm before he intertwines it with his own. his thoughts of i didn’t know what to do without you are left unsaid. now that you’re back, he swears he isn’t leaving your side again, and there’s plenty of time for him to show you just how much he missed you.

do u think atsushi picks up akutagawa's habit of staring at ppl until they wake up and give him attention (and by ppl i mean atsushi)
like at some point after waking up to aku either next to him or sitting criss cross apple sauce on top of him just staring his little bug eyed stare he just starts doing it
the agency starts waking up to atsushi just in the corner of their room, eyes glowing in the dark, waiting for them to wake up becuz of reason or the other
kunikida and dazai get this a lot becuz they're his go-to for bad dreams (other than aku eventually) (kyouka no becuz he would never want to burden her and he's her older brother, so he wants to be strong so she can lean on him, but hopefully he unlearns this at some point too)
he woke up early adn decided to bake but ranpo is still asleep so he just stands over his bed with a tray of cupcakes
or something like that idk

The BSD characters with an s/o with a dog
Tumblr media
Includes: Dazai, Chuuya, Akutagawa, Fyodor, Atsushi, Nikolai, Kunikida, Jouno
Tumblr media
Dazai:
He hates them and has talked about that fact many times around the agency
You weren't living together at this point and you didn't know how he'd react to you having a dog so you wait for him to find out himself
The next time he was at your apartment he was just sitting on the couch, watching some random show on tv when the fluffy little animal put its front legs on the arm of the couch, looking at the brunette
He instantly screams and moves to the other side of the couch "Y/n! Why didn't you tell me you had one of earth's worst creatures?"
You take your dog into your lap and sit next to Dazai on the couch. Your dog calmly sits in front of you and you explain that he's actually nice and doesn't bite
Your dog approaches him again but he continues to back away
When you ask him if he has a fear of dogs he says no, claiming he just doesn't like them in an oddly defensive way
After begging him to just try to get along with your dog he sighs, sitting down a good distance away from it
He holds out his hand and your dog sniffs it before snuggling up to it. After a while he forces himself to pet it and your dog wags its tail in response
He actually makes an effort to put up with your dog for you, over time getting used to it
Eventually he grows to enjoy the creatures affection and lets it sit on his lap when it comes up to him
Tumblr media
Chuuya:
He's a dog person so when you tell him you have one he simply says it's cool but is secretly extremely excited to see it
One evening you were home alone, waiting for him to return from a mission
Soon enough he tiredly walks through the door, shutting it behind him
Your dog goes to see who's at the door and he instantly melts at the sight of the little animal
You leave your room to find him petting the dog, smothering it with hugs, and talking to it in a high pitched voice
Once he sees you he slightly distances himself from it, not wanting you to think less of him
"He really seems to like you" you join your boyfriend on the floor
Chuuya continues to play the dog, joy being the only thing visible in his eyes. You smile at the sight and take out your phone to snap a picture, the sound grabbing his attention
His face turns red out of embarrassment, a picture of a mafia executive playing with a dog would not be good for his reputation
He gets a little overly-protective of your dog, texting you to ask if he's okay when he's away from home and asking you to send him pictures randomly
He's always wanted a dog but couldn't get one because of his work so he's extremely glad he can have one and know it's safe
Constantly looks forward to coming home to both you and his new furry little companion
Tumblr media
Akutagawa:
He never saw himself having a pet but considered himself more of a cat person
When you tell him you have a dog he doesn't have much of a reaction, deciding to form an opinion when he met it
The two of you were on your couch when your dog jumped up and sat between you two, tilting his head at the dark-haired male
They continued to stare at each other, neither of them moving
You gestured for Akutagawa to do something so he stuck out his hand and the dog sniffed it before snuggling up to his side
He scratched its head gently and it seemed to enjoy the touch, making his heart swell. It was rare that his company was seen as enjoyable so he appreciated it
He was actually much more accepting of your dog than you thought he'd be, always letting it climb into his lap or petting it whenever it came to join him
Not that he'd ever admit it out loud but he would miss you a lot so whenever you weren't home he'd spend time with your dog, liking that he was alone less and could be as affectionate with it as he wanted without judgement
After moving in together the only thing he wasn't a fan of was how it would occasionally jump on him in the morning and wake him up
Tumblr media
Fyodor:
He wasn't a fan of pets, he found them too needy and demanding of attention for things that didn't do anything
You decided to just let him see your dog for himself the next time he was at your apartment
He was working at your desk while you were on the nearby couch when your dog came up to him, putting its front legs on his leg
"You didn't tell me you had a dog" he scratched its head before returning to his work
Your dog came over to you as it wasn’t getting attention from your partner
He actually didn’t really have that much of a problem with your dog and would let it nap in the room while he was working or even on his lap as long as it stayed quiet
When it starts getting antsy or barking he asks you to take it for a walk or something
Besides that he’s glad you have something to keep you company when he’s busy working or away from home for a while
Tumblr media
Atsushi:
He's more of a cat person but still loves dogs
When you tell him you have a dog he's so excited to see it
He comes over to your apartment later that day and finds your dog in its bed, gnawing on a chew toy
When he walks in the room it drops the toy and walks up to him, siting in front of him
He kneels down and pets it, your dog responding by jumping up on him, wagging its tail
Your dog was normally pretty shy around new people so this was surprising "Maybe he likes you so much since you're also part of the animal kingdom" You tease him as you sit on the couch
He's always up to walk your dog for you whenever you're busy and even takes it to the dog park
Loves having something else he can care for and having a new cuddly friend to snuggle with
Tumblr media
Nikolai:
Loves animals and would be happy with almost any pet
When you tell him you have a dog he comes over the same day, eager to see it
He picks up your dog once he sees it, absolutely bombarding it with affection but your dog seems okay with it
Once he set it down he grabs a squeaky ball and tosses it across the room, completely content with playing fetch for quite a while
He definitely buys your dog a bunch of outfits and dresses it up
Half of the the time he'll come home with some outfit he found in the store and thought your dog would look cute in
He even gets it a little matching top hat and takes pictures with it
Helps train your dog and teaches it tricks
Loves having something around that’s super energetic like him
Tumblr media
Kunikida:
Wasn't opposed to having a pet but never got one because of his work
You tell him you have a dog and he doesn't have much of a reaction but still plans to see it
When he's on the couch your dog walks in front of him and he entertains it, giving it a toy and scratching its head
Since your dog is pretty young he tells you how important proper care is
He ensures you get all the right food, provide it with enough attention, and walk it enough
Scolds you for not being strict enough towards your dogs poor behavior since he knows it won't help
Is relatively stern with both the dog and you as a dog owner but it’s just because he wants the dog to be healthy
Tumblr media
Jouno:
Doesn't like dogs, he thinks they're unhygienic and too demanding of attention
You decide to wait for him to find out on his own
When he came over to your apartment you brought your dog into your lap while you both were sitting on the couch and since it was comfortable, it wasn't barking
He sensed another heartbeat but knew no one else was around so he was confused
Eventually he reached over to you and was met with fur. He gasps as he instantly retracts his hand
You reassure him and say your dog's really gentle and calm
He refuses to touch it before you tell him you give your dog a bath regularly
Sighing, he brings his hand back and pats its head, his face strained
Gets annoyed when it starts barking and circling him while he's working
Also gets bothered by how much it sheds
He eventually gets used to having it around, occasionally getting startled when it randomly jumps on him
To help him, you get your dog a new collar with a little bell on it

things they do with/for you after a rough day feat. dazai, kunikida, ranpo, odasaku + fyodor
genre. fluff, comfort
warnings. alcohol consumption, mentions of past suicide attempts (dazai duh), mentions of murder/death in a card game
note. i started reading the dark era novel and i snorted when dazai called ango a lucky dog
Tumblr media
— dazai osamu
When you come back with distance in your eyes, Dazai takes you out to a bar that only he seems to know.
The lights hang low above the two of you, the scent of smoke in the air, but it doesn't bother either of you. Dazai is used to it and you're so caught up in the story about how he tried to commit suicide with a block of tofu.
"Let me guess. You ate it when you failed, didn't you?" You laughed.
Dazai nodded. "At least it was tasty. You should try it sometime."
Drinks are poured, flirting words are exchanged and giggles fill the small bubble around the two of you. Like two teenagers that are painfully in love, on-lookers would likely phrase the unfolding scene.
How could trivial troubles still bother you when your cheeks are warm with alcohol, lips occupied by Dazai's soft ones and his calloused hand on the nape of your neck? He kisses you slowly, affectionately, with a passion that only a man like he could ever do, like he is afraid of losing you.
"Dazai. I want to spend the night with you."
"Love.. We live together."
And maybe it is time to go home when liquor makes you forget about the home you share.
— kunikida doppo
Unbeknownst to you, Kunikida has an entire notebook filled with information about you and how to cheer you up, how to handle your feelings in healthy and ideal manners.
He makes you a cup of tea with exactly one and a half spoons of honey, letting it cool down to a pleasant temperature that wouldn't burn your tongue. Next up is a plate of lasagna. Under any other circumstances, Kunikida would berate you on how unhealthy it is to stuff your worries into such a dish, but he lets it slide.
On his shoulder, you rest your head and bask in the silence that is your home, your partner, your everything.
"Do you wish to talk about what happened?" He asks.
You know Kunikida carries the wisdom of an old sage upon his shoulders and his advice never misses the mark. If anything, his words hit a bit too close to home. That is how well he learned to read you, you suppose.
"I just wanna be right here for a moment." You mumble and snuggle into the strong arms of your lover who holds you as tight as you like it for as long as you like it.
Kunikida respects your decision and presses a lovely kiss to the top of your head. A silent promise that he is there for you in case you change your mind.
— ranpo edogawa
Ranpo is ready: various sweets on the couch table, two cans of soda and his ears wide open for the gossip you have brought home.
"No, he did not!" Gasps Ranpo.
"He totally did! Who would've thought he'd be stupid enough to hop into bed with the secretary?" You shake your head and crack open a can of soda while Ranpo chews on a couple of bonbons.
Perhaps, Ranpo doesn't realize that his willingness to listen to your rants helps to blow away the stress of your work, but you don't mind. He is an amazing gossip boyfriend and the only person who knows all about the work-lore.
When your head eventually lands on Ranpo's lap, he finds himself running his hands through your hair. Each strand gets tangled up between his limbs, but he's skilled enough to undo each and every worry in your pretty, little head.
"See! I told you they were stupid, but you refused to listen!" He pouts like he's seriously hurt by the way you skillfully ignored his prediction.
Playfully rolling your eyes, you press a sugary kiss to his lips and smile at the detective. "Better?"
"..Better. You're lucky I love you."
"Alright, then let's bet on how this drama continues."
— oda sakunosuke
In his car, Odasaku has one arm resting along your shoulders and a cigarette hanging from his lips. The smoke clings to his lungs like the frown does to your face; quite a sorry sight for such an important part of his life and yet, these things happen every once in a while.
"It's quite nice here," you muse.
An old house, surrounded by green hills and the occasional neighbor. The salty breeze passes through the open window of Oda's car, plays with your hair and almost sniffs out his cigarette. Perhaps, he should quit.
"It is." Odasaku is a man of few words and when he speaks, he is almost painfully straightforward, but that is what draws you to him: brutal honesty.
Mindlessly, you rest your head on Odasaku's shoulder. Your mind wanders from the troubles at work to the future. Hopefully, in the near future. "Wouldn't it be nice to live here with the kids?"
You could already see it. The orphans could play in the house's backyard all day and sleep in their own rooms and enjoy a proper roof above their head. Odasaku would have his own room, a single window facing the sea, where he could write his novel about life, death and the time in-between.
Odasaku could see it, too. You and the kids greeting him when he comes home from work, a peck on his lips and the kids shyly looking away at the display of affection.
The ghost of a smile lingers on his lips. "You think it'd be a good idea?"
"Of course. I could go to work and you could be my house husband," you tease.
Oh, so you think about spending your life with him as someone who no longer kills.
As your husband.
— fyodor dostoyevsky
A piece of classical music hums in the background and a thick blanket protects you from the cold temperatures that winter offers every year. Fyodor is right next to you, contemplating his next words carefully as his eyes linger on the card in front of him.
"I'm sorry to say, love, but you used to be sharper," he says with a faux disappointed sigh and turns the card around. "The client was bitten by a poisonous spider and died. But your guesses weren't too bad."
Your mouth falls agape. "No! I was so close, too! I really thought a snake strangled him.."
After a rough day, Fyodor thought it was..silly to play this little card game in which the death of a person is described and the other player has to guess why they died. It ranged from accidents to murder and to Fyodor's surprise, it is quite entertaining.
Not because the game scratches his brain just right (as you would phrase it), but because of the fun sparkling in your eyes.
"Admit it, you memorized every card way before we could play. There's no other way you could've guessed all these cases!" You wave a stack of cards in front of Fyodor's face in complete disbelief, yet you know how incredibly intelligent the man is.
Of course, this game isn't much of a challenge for him.
" Don't be upset. At least, you managed to solve five out of fifteen cases so far."
"..Are you teasing me right now?"
Fyodor chuckles. "Am I?"

A Comparison of No Longer Human's Yozo and Bungou Stray Dogs' Dazai, Part 1
Disclaimer: I'm just a person with a keyboard, a book and a passion for stories, I don't have a degree, I'm just having fun and making connections where I see them. If you don't agree that's fine, but don't come for me.
An exploration of what I think are shared themes, symbols and character roles surrounding Yozo's life in No Longer Human and Dazai's in Bungou Stray Dogs.
Spoilers for BSD main timeline, Fifteen and Dark Era. And Spoilers for No Longer Human
Yozo’s Childhood and Dazai Disconnect From People
For the most part Dazai’s childhood is completely unknown in BSD, so we can’t directly compare Dazai’s and Yozo’s childhood experiences, but Yozo’s childhood could help explain some of Dazai’s mentality when interacting with other people.
In No Longer Human we learn that Yozo has felt emotionally disconnected from the people around him for as long as he can remember, that disconnect formed a constant fear of others, of making them angry with him and of the idea they would hurt him. He copes with this by becoming a ‘clown’, making himself laughable and therefore not suspicious in hopes of being accepted.
‘This was how I happened to invent my clowning. It was the last quest for love I was to direct at human beings.’ - Yozo, No Longer Human ‘I thought, “As long as I can make them laugh, it doesn’t matter how, I’ll be alright. If I succeed in that, the human beings probably won’t mind it too much if I remain outside their lives.’ - Yozo, No Longer Human
In the early manga/anime of Bungou Stray Dogs, though we don’t see Dazai express specifically a fear of other people, we see he uses humour as a way to compensate, telling jokes that often feel out of place because he doesn’t know how else to express himself. He makes light of situations not because he doesn’t care, but it’s how he connects.
Tumblr media
In his attempts to help Atsushi, who has no money to buy his own food, Dazai offers to buy him whatever he wants, but he makes a joke about Atsushi's choice. He's clowning here because he doesn't know how to simply offer earnest help.
Although, unlike Yozo who is terrified of people being angry with him, Dazai has no problem using his humour to agitate and get under people's skin, like the way he is constantly poking fun at Kunikida. I still think this one of Dazai's unfortunate ways of connecting with people as he is mostly shown messing with people close to him and engages less in such behaviours with people he doesn't.
When Dazai doesn’t know how to make light of the situation he goes quiet, often getting a serious look on his face. Like in the warehouse scene when Atsushi is talking about himself negatively, Dazai reacts by not reacting. He clearly wants to say something to him, but doesn't know how. He’s processing, he wants to bridge that gap but he doesn’t know what to do, at least not in the beginning of the manga/anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dazai also react similarly to this when Nikolai is mourning Fyodor. Him listening without commenting is how he shows sympathy
We see him slowly evolve from his terrible attempt to comfort Atsushi after dispelling Q’s ability, to him eventually making Sigma believe in both him and the Agency. He's still learning how to connect with people throughout the story.
This comedic act could also hint at why Dazai left his home as a child. In NLH Yozo’s high school is situated away from his hometown and family, he lives with a distant relative whilst attending it. He finds himself more at ease there because strangers more naturally believe his clowning and lies. Unless we are given an actual backstory we may never know why Dazai was so depressed when he met Mori or why he willingly went with him, but being able to essentially reinvent himself and having his lies more easily believed may have fed into it.
It something he also does when he joins the Agency. He doesn't want to acknowledge his past if he can help it.
Family is something Yozo feared and perhaps it was for Dazai too.
‘An actor dreads most the audience in his home town; I imagine the greatest actor in the world would be quite paralyzed in a room where all his family and relatives were gathered to watch him.’ - Yozo, No Longer Human
We do get to witness Dazai’s fear of others later in the manga through his present day relationship with Ango. The betrayal he experienced through Ango has left him emotionally scarred to the point he holds back when forming new friendships, keeping everyone at far more of a distance than he did Ango or Oda. It’s a betrayal he can neither come to terms with or walk away from. He still takes his pain out on Ango, but then creates scenarios where he’s dependent on him too. He simultaneously fears losing Ango for good and being open enough to get hurt by him again (and others as well).
Tumblr media
Dazai is relying on his connection with Ango for this plan. It's shown in BSD that Fukuzawa has connections that could have helped them here, but Dazai wanted to go to Ango, he wanted to create a scenario where they needed each other.
Kyouka’s entrance exam and Dazai’s connection to the outside world in Meursault are both plans that wouldn’t have worked without Ango. He’s still someone Dazai feels strongly about and respects.
Though, a respected man isn’t something to be admired or envied in Yozo’s eyes. They are a clever liar who has succeeded in tricking their audience and gaining their trust. Someone to be exposed and weary of becoming. Someone who will betray you, just like Ango did to Dazai. The plans Dazai involves Ango in usually require him to lie to/manipulate/or betray his current organization. Dazai still sees him as inherently deceitful, he just uses it to his advantage now.
‘My definition of a “respected” man was one who had succeeded almost completely in hoodwinking people, but who was finally seen through by some omniscient, omnipotent person who ruined him and made him suffer a shame worse than death.’ - Yozo, No Longer Human ‘What would be the wrath and vengeance of those who realised how they had been tricked!’ - Yozo, No Longer Human.
Tumblr media
It is heavily implied Dazai is the reason Ango's air bag didn't work. Just one part of his vengeance upon the respected man who betrayed him.
This definition of a respected man might also be why Dazai slacks off so much around work. Yozo, whilst being the smartest student in his class, fears that reputation and uses his clownery to maintain popularity amongst his peers and his unassuming appearance. He doesn’t want to stand out as a respected individual and neither does Dazai. He actively seems to discourage Atsushi from thinking that way about him by fooling around, even though it doesn’t work because Atsushi still greatly admires him.
The other pivotal experience that relates to Dazai from Yozo’s childhood is his friend, Takeichi.
Takeichi is an interesting character because he starts out as someone Yozo is afraid of. He’s a student who sees through Yozo’s class clown act and calls him out on it. Yozo then proceeds to essentially stalk Takeichi out of fear of being exposed as a fraud, only to end up inviting Takeichi to his home and spending time together. They become friends, he’s the only person Yozo actually opens up to, in a meaningful way. Takeichi symbolises a genuine human connection for Yozo, a way into the regular world, but as they grow older they are separated and Yozo grows distant from people again.
Takeichi for me is both Oda and Ango.
Oda and Ango are Dazai’s first friends. Dazai forming his connection with them his first step into the light, into connecting with other people rather than sitting on the outside. As Children Takeichi and Yozo discover their love of impressionist art. Yozo starts to paint self-portraits inspired by Van Gogh, they are a glimpse of his innermost self, which he shows to solely Takeichi. This mirrors how Oda and Ango create that safe space for Dazai to be himself in the Lupin Bar. That bar is their canvas where they are free to paint their souls without fear. They don’t judge and shun Dazai the way the rest of the world seems to have.
‘The pictures I drew were so heart-rending as to stupefy even myself. Here was the true self I had so desperately hidden. I had smiled cheerfully; I had made others laugh; but this was the harrowing reality.’ - Yozo, No Longer Human ‘Naturally I did not show my pictures to anyone except Takeichi. I disliked the thought that I might suddenly be subjected to [other people’s] suspicious vigilance … On the other hand I was equally afraid that they might not recognise my true self when they saw it’ - Yozo, No Longer Human ‘To Takeichi (and to him alone) I could display my easily wounded sensibilities, and I did not hesitate to show him my self-portraits.’ - Yozo, No Longer Human
In fact when Dazai leans too hard into his clowning act Ango is the one trying to discourage him from it. There's a genuine care for Dazai's mental health and safety shown in these moments.
Though just like Yozo and Takeichi in NLH, Dazai, Oda and Ango are separated. For Dazai it doesn’t symbolise a descent back into the darkness, but perhaps a journey cut short. Instead of the three of them coming into the light at their own pace, Dazai is thrust ahead, ill prepared and alone. Oda is dead and he can’t rely on Ango because of his betrayal. Dazai is stuck in a liminal space with no one to guide him on how to become 'more human'.
Before Takeichi and Yozo are separated, Takeichi makes what Yozo refers to as prophecies about Yozo’s life. That he’ll be popular with girls and a great artist. To some extent both of these end up true, Yozo has many girlfriends and he does become a paid cartoonist, but his relationships are chaotic and unhealthy, and his job is unreliable and he hates it. The prophecies are also curses. This to me, is like Oda’s last request of Dazai, he tells Dazai to be a good man and to help people. He does this in an attempt to save Dazai from his own spiraling and give his life some future meaning. Dazai chooses to live by these words, we constantly see him struggle to do so, Oda’s words haunt him as much as they guide him. His promise and his curse.
And that's it for Part 1! If you read all this way then thank you very much for your time, I hope you enjoyed it! I don't know when Part 2 will be out because I'm making notes as I re-read through NLH, but hopefully it won't be too long!

Nobody but Oda and Atsushi really care for Dazai.
Before ANYONE starts coming after me viciously and saying that obviously it's not just them that care for Dazai, I know. I'm not saying nobody else cares. I'm just saying that these two cared the most and are genuinely worried for him. Well, were. RIP Oda. <3
Let me explain why.
We all are very much aware of the jumpscare we got in BSD Wan, right? Where we thought it was all cute and happy, and BAM we get fucking shot in the chest by Dazai's "When I go, I hope to go out just as beautifully."
HELLO? This was not okay. Usually, when we hear Dazai talking about suicide (save for Fifteen and The Dark Era) he's pretty whimsical about it, not ever really serious. Yet, here, we see just how serious he is. Atsushi does think he's half-joking at first, before he looks towards Dazai and just sees this dead, dull look in his eyes whilst he smiles at the sky. Atsushi is rattled by this, and genuinely distressed. Fuck me, I sobbed when I first watched this scene, I was not expecting the wholeass 180. Anyways, we see how upset Atsushi is by this statement. "Please don't say stuff like that, even as a joke." We still get zero reaction from Dazai. Nothing. Here, we see him without his usual comic relief mask, but he's still guarding himself.
Let me get into why I think.
Dazai has not had anyone genuinely care about him at any point in his life (excluding before he was 14, fuck knows what happened there) so far. Mori, who was essentially a really twisted and fucked up father figure, didn't care about his wellbeing much, except for the fact that he stopped him committing suicide multiple times for the first year that he knew him. Not out of the kindness of his heart, but due to the fact that Dazai was still a necessary pawn in Mori's plans, and he couldn't let him die yet. It literally says so in the Fifteen LN.
Chuuya cares about him to some extent. When Dazai gets wounded (and it's not inflicted by Chuuya) he gets worried and concerned. Prime example being during their fight with Lovecraft, when Dazai gets fucking slapped against a tree. Chuuya punches Lovecraft with a "heavy fist" and then immediately runs over to Dazai, making sure he's okay. When Dazai eventually looks up, Chuuya becomes shaken at how bad his wound is. Then, the next time that Dazai gets slapped again, Chuuya is very very shaken, as Dazai starts spouting off about how he's going to die, and his final words. Chuuya is clearly rattled, and is trying to get him to shut up, asking him what the hell he means. Then, obviously, Dazai is messing, and Chuuya grows anger. Despite Chuuya's hatred for Dazai, he is clearly concerned where his partner's wellbeing is involved. The first time they meet, Chuuya is once again shaken by Dazai when he says to "kill him now then", and is taken aback. Through the years, however, Chuuya becomes desensitised to Dazai's suicidal antics, and he even teases him when they reunite, asking him if he still wants to kill himself, then grows disappointed when Dazai outright admits to it.
Kunikida is of course concerned about his partner, but is also exasperated and annoyed by him. When Dazai goes missing, he even jabs at the fact that he could of actually succeeded in killing himself this time (he mentions that he's probably floating in a river somewhere). As he does mention, though, "That man's ability to avoid death approaches nightmare proficiency." Then Ranpo, "Not even the Port Mafia would be able to get the better of him." And Kenji, "Even after all those suicide attempts, he's still as lively as ever." This is obviously fucking true, all of it. He sees through everything and each step of his is carefully planned and atriculated. However, as Atsushi says, "Still, aren't you worried?" He knows this, and he understands what they're saying, but he is taken aback by their lack of care. Then, Tanizaki steps in, saying that he'll help look for him. King. Atsushi is happy about this clearly. Atsushi really cares for him already, and he doesn't understand why everyone else is so calm about this situation. It's because they all know that he'll get himself out of there in one piece, as he is able to avoid these types of things expertly and deftly. However, Atsushi still is worried for Dazai. Kunikida has been Dazai's partner for two years now, and so he knows all of his antics and tricks, much like Chuuya. Chuuya, however, knows him better and more in depth. Because the ADA Dazai isn't really him. Of course, it is him, but with his darker side hidden a lot more. I don't think he's ever revealed it to any of the members except for Kunikida during his entrance exam. The rest all think of him as some goofball who's good at what he does and has a passion for suicide and women. However, Chuuya knows him as a twisted, unwell guy with a passion for suicide and all things dark, with a but of a wacky side to him. These two parallells still have one thing in common, however, and that's obviously suicide. Anyways, sorry, I was getting out of hand. Kunikida clearly cares for Dazai and his wellbeing, but again, is also infuriated by him and his attempts at suicide, which nobody takes seriously.
Mori. Fuck, man. This guy? Real piece of shit. Sees Dazai as an asset in his plan, nothing more, nothing less. He values him as a Port Mafia member, not a human being. The dehumanising nature of Mori greatly impacts Dazai and his quest for death; Mori exacerbates this multiple times. Yes, he stops him continuously from killing himself, but once again, only because he needs him as a piece in his game plan. He was the sole witness to his promotion as the boss of the Port Mafia, he can't have him go die on him now. So, he keeps a close watch on Dazai, surveillance constant. He controls and manipulates the shit out of him, using his craving for death as a means to get him to do what he wants, bargaining a drug for a comfortable way out in exchange for him doing missions for him, to which Dazai expects, wanting him to make him that drug. Mori saved him at 14, yet Dazai continues to attempt suicide countless times in just that one year. Mori does not care for his wellbeing, mentally or physically. He drives him out of the mafia with Oda's death, yet still expects him to want to come back as an executive. Despite claiming that he didn't drive Dazai out of the mafia, he indirectly did so. Now, I don't know if he sent Oda into this with the expectation that Dazai was going to leave, but I think he did but also don't think he did? I think he did this as a means to get Dazai more under his control and manipulate him, because he knew how close they were and he knew exactly what strings to pull to get Dazai to snap. Except, I don't think he predicted Dazai actually leaving the Port Mafia, because he couldn't of predicted what Oda would say to Dazai, and he couldn't of predicted how deep their bond was.
This brings me to my main and next point; Oda was the only one who ever cared for Dazai. Ango of course did, but not to the extent of Oda. I don't know if many people have read it, but if you haven't, spoilers for 'The Time I Picked Up Dazai' under the cut.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the book, we see just how much Oda begins to really care about Dazai, despite him initially being some shady kid that turned up half dead on his doorstep. He ties him up to his bed just so that he won't try and escape and kill himself, as he exclaims to Oda. Oda goes through so many measures to make sure Dazai doesn't kill himself. Three times. Three fucking times. The first time being Dazai crawling to the door to try and get out so that he can get out of Oda's way and die in peace. The second time, he literally fights Oda because he's trying to stab himself. Then, two seconds later, tries to kill himself with the kettle. Oda has to physically stop him. Oda has to fucking strangle him unconcious to get him to stop. Despite meeting him only three days prior, he cares about his wellbeing. Part of the reason is obviously that he doesn't want a dead kid on his hands, but the other part is that he's growing to care for Dazai. All throughout this little book, we see little glimpses of Oda's genuine concern for Dazai. Obviously at first, he was debating just leaving him on the doorstep, because it wasn't really his issue. Yet, he still drags Dazai back to the bed and ties him up when he tries crawling out the house. In the Dark Era, we see him (in the alley scene) tell Dazai to stop talking after he almost gets shot, because he knows that he's just chatting shit. However, in the book (holy shit, it made me cry when I read it) this happens instead;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he described Dazai at the end of this scene kind of broke me. "That of a child about to burst into tears." Now, I don't know whether he meant that Dazai was so happy to finally just, you know, die, or that Dazai was just a troubled child. Both, I think. Odasaku sees Dazai as a child, just a child, and the fact that he wants to die so bad and has such a warped perception of the world genuinely hurts Odasaku. He doesn't want to see Dazai like that; it upsets him. He's genuinely angry at what Dazai did, much like how a father would be angry. He can't stand when Dazai's like this because it breaks his heart. Despite Ango scolding him for letting Dazai speak like that, as he will just start going more off the rails, Oda does tell Dazai not to be like that, and is concerned when he is and when he's serious about it, as opposed to him being whimsical about it in the bar. Ango and Odasaku are like father/brother figures to Dazai, they're fond of him and care about him deeply. Which is why it hurts Dazai so much when it starts falling apart. Bungou Stray Dogs fucking breaks me, because in the scene (I haven't finished The Dark Era LN yet, I'm sorry-) in the anime where Dazai is talking about how everything he loves or wants always leaves in the end whenever he obtains them. And so, when Odasaku died, despite how much Dazai prepared for the things he loves to be lost, he couldn't prepare for it at all. And when he finally loses it, he's lost the final stable thing in his life. His attempt at wanting to live had left. His friendship with Oda and Ango was stained with Ango's betrayal. His life in the Port Mafia became dull and depressing. His attempt at trying to live failed. And his best friend died in his fucking arms.
Then Atushi comes in, and reminds him of all he's lost, yet also all he wants to save and achieve. He raises Atushi, because that's what Oda would have wanted. He raises him because it's the right thing to do, and he wants to be there for him. But he doesn't expect Atsushi to begin to actually hold a deep fondness of him. Dazai, as we all know, cannot handle compliments or being cared for, because it's something so rare and foreign to him. So, even though it's supposed to be funny and nice, BSD Wan really hits fucking hard with this one. He doesn't realise that anyone actually cares for him; evil expects evil from others, as he said. Dazai is constantly on guard, cautious and reserved and shielded. He doesn't want to be hurt again. And so, when Atsushi says shit like this, it catches him off guard, but he can't let that show. He can't let anyone see him vulnerable, because everybody has an ulterior motive. He's going to be used for something.
Sound familiar?
SIGMA.
I know, jumpscare, right?
Bet you weren't expecting me to fucking jump to him.
But, I think that's why Dazai actually cares for Sigma in the little time he's come to know him. "I see. So that's how it is." He says after we see Sigma's internal monologue. Not going to lie, I think Dazai sees a bit of himself in Sigma and is trying to save him from that, and show him that not everyone tries to use him, and that he's safe with him and the ADA, which fucking works when Fyodor tries to manipulate him and Sigma pulls out a fucking UNO reverse card on him, and stands his ground, because he won't be used anymore. Dazai has never been able to confront Mori properly about anything, and so if he can let someone else feel what he wishes he could, then that would make him happy. Plus, Sigma's technically an orphan lol.
Another thing of importance to note is
Okay sorry I've been sat here for about five minutes trying to remember and I can't FUCK.
Anyways, the care from Atsushi that Dazai gets is foreign to him. He doesn't know how to respond, so he just doesn't respond at all. Because it hurts too much, and reminds him of Oda.
I THINK I REMEMBERED BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS IT.
Anyways, despite it being what I thought of or not, it's a key point to make. When Atsushi's orphanage Director passes away, and he doesn't know how to feel, it's Dazai there to help him through it as he faces the loss of a "loved" one. He doesn't know how to feel about the Director's death. He was someone who raised him, someone who was always there. Except, the Director was a sick, twisted and cruel man, despite him only trying to prepare Atsushi from the worst and save him from what he went through himself and what Atsushi's parents did to him. Clearly not the correct way to raise a kid. However, Dazai tells him "When someone's father dies, they tend to cry." Dazai; emotionless, inhuman and uncaring. This is how Chuuya sees him in his Port Mafia days. This is how everyone saw him; someone to be feared for his lack of humanity and twisted way of dealing with things, his warped perceptions of the universe. Yet, when Odasaku dies, it's the only time we see Dazai crying, and it's the most upset or nervous or emotional we've seen him; the guy's a fucking wreck. This just broke me when he said that, not just because poor fucking Atsushi, but also because Oda was a father figure to Dazai. The only time we have seen him cry was of course Oda. And when he says that to Atsushi, my heart breaks. Literally crumbles. This series is actually god awful, I hate it.
In conclusion, Dazai obviously doesn't respond well to compliments or worries about his wellbeing, and Atsushi reminds him too much of Oda. Everything Atsushi is and does; Atsushi, who he's took under his wing as an orphan. Atsushi, who doesn't see the value or meaning in killing people. Atsushi, who asked Aku to be a mafia member who doesn't kill. Atsushi, who took in Kyouka, despite her flaws, and Dazai had to be there to explain that no matter what, she could be in the ADA, despite her kills, despite being an assassin, despite being in the PM. This shit hits hard for him, and I hate it so much.
Anyways, sorry for this long ass rant but it just kills me how nobody actually thinks to look deeper into Dazai's suicidal tendencies, as he's clearly not okay. Atsushi and Oda are the only one's who have ever thought to pursue it, and actively stop him from thinking like that.
I hope you're all having a lovely day/night! <3
Soukoku, then Shin Soukoku, and now Vanoé, huh? Fine by us, we love showing the different ships.
Context: this is now a year since Vanitas ended up in Yokohama, and he has since become a member of the Armed Detective Agency. His personality has changed a little, he's not as cold or manipulative as he once was, and the rest of the needed context is written in the following snippet.
Please enjoy, it's a bit of a longer read!
"This is the worst idea you've ever had, and why does it have to be me??" Vanitas grumbled as he was made to put on a suit, long coat and a red scarf while Dazai looked like he had murder in his eyes.
Mori had come to them, and asked the Armed Detective Agency for a favour: a new weapon smuggling group had gotten into contact with Mori, and wanted to do business with the Port Mafia. As a sign of good will, they offered to show Mori a Gifted they had kidnapped, telling him that said Gifted would make gathering information far smoother for the Port Mafia. However, the price was that Mori himself would be the one to see, and he had to come alone.
This group obviously didn't know Mori very well- obviously being the Boss, he had to pull every sort of tactic, no matter how disgusting and unforgivable. However, he didn't like Ability Users being captured and forced to use their Gifts; Yosano laughed at that irony, though she also had to acknowledge that the War made her situation more like a grey area. She'd still call Mori a hypocrite, but he'd simply ignore her.
Nobody in the Port Mafia could pretend to be Mori, they'd already tried that before. Akutagawa was closest, however he was out of town with Gin, dealing with other issues. Since this would end up doubling as a rescue mission, Mori decided that the Agency would be the best people for the task- the group had apparently done a lot of research on Mori himself, so he had to go with an Agency Member who looked as close to him as possible: Vanitas.
Vanitas and Mori were the same height and had the same skin colour. Both had dark hair, and since Vanitas was technically no longer a member of the Blue Moon Clan, his eyes were dark enough to pass as a similar colour. They had similar builds, and sure enough, once Vanitas was dressed in the clothes Mori provided, it was hard to distinguish who was who. The final trick was Vanitas' voice: before Moreau got his hands on Vanitas originally, the Chasseurs had taught him how to mimic voices, since it could be handy to lure Vampires to their deaths.
"...no, I fucking hate this." That was all Dazai could say as he glared at Mori, "Obviously I know why you can't go, but why drag Vanitas into your shit?"
"I will reward Vanitas and the rest of the Agency handsomely," was the very dismissive reply, Dazai shaking when he watched Mori wave his hand, "Besides, he looks just like me, can sound like me, and can resolve the situation without unnecessary bloodshed. If this deal is real, then it benefits me. If it's fake, then it means a gang is dealt with before it causes Yokohama any harm."
The Agency Members that were there all looked pissed off. Kunikida wanted to argue, since he *agreed* with Dazai that Vanitas shouldn't be dragged into Mori's mess. Yosano crossed her arms, still calling Mori a hypocrite and glaring at him for even daring to suggest this. Fukuzawa was trying to remain calm, but it was difficult. Eventually, Ranpo broke the tension by sighing obnoxiously loudly, "It'll work. But Vanitas? No matter what those guys say, bring a gun with you. Also, I recommend leaving your Book behind."
Usually, that suggestion alone would make Vanitas furious, however... even in the coat, he couldn't hide it. So he'd have to do this without his Ability. Vanitas took a breath and handed the Book to Dazai, then whispered softly, "Please take care of her."
"You know I will." Dazai held the Book of Vanitas to his chest, and managed a reassuring smile, which Vanitas was able to return.
Vanitas glared at Mori, "You'd better make this worth my while." He smirked a little when he saw how *uncomfortable* the fearsome Port Mafia Boss looked in that moment, but otherwise didn't care.
He was given the co-ordinates, an abandoned building close to the Riverside Warehouses, and was given brief control over Elise in case anything went south. Vanitas had a gun holstered on his back, and to truly mimic Mori, he also had a couple of scalpels hidden within his sleeves.
Kunikida took a breath, "Kid, please be careful." He trusted Vanitas, of course he did, but that didn't mean he'd stop worrying- he still worried for all the Agency, they were essentially a giant family, after all. Fukuzawa didn't have it in him to speak, like he knew that if he did, it would simply be to ask Vanitas not to do this; it was risky, they had little to no information, and he simply didn't trust Mori. Dazai just held the Book, while Ranpo had a knowing smile on his face.
*How did he always know everything?*
*****
It was stupidly easy to enter the building the new group had established, the men there seemed overly thrilled that the Boss of the Port Mafia had accepted their invitation. All Vanitas had to do was show up, and suddenly he was being shown a number of large collections: bombs, guns, blades, jewels, anything a gang of thugs would need and could use when dealing in Yokohama.
"This is all well and good," Vanitas spoke with Mori's voice, well enough that it could have fooled voice recognition software if these men were smart enough to have that technology installed in their facility, "However, I'm here to meet the Gifted you promised to provide. After all, anyone who can benefit the Port Mafia will be useful."
"Oh, certainly, sir!" The head of this group, a man who had arms like tree trunks, lead him down a corridor. "We found him in Suribachi City- he has the Ability to see people's memories through touch!"
That wasn't good. A Gifted like that would absolutely be hunted down by Special Operations. After all, all information could be gleaned by having this new Gifted touch someone, then have someone like Ango or Sigma touch him if he was unwilling to divulge the information out of fear or spite. Besides that, Gifts that allow a person to look through memories, minds or information, are really painful to the User if they can't control it. Atsushi mentioned passing out the first time Sigma used his Ability on him.
In the middle of the room was a chair with someone tied in it, a bag covering their head. The leader's words had indicated that the person in question was male, and he looked incredibly skinny. Vanitas wondered how long he'd been held captive, and knew that he'd have to get him out, and to Yosano. Screw what Mori thought or wanted, that bastard would only overwork this guy!
His thoughts shut down completely when the bag was removed: underneath was a man just a little older than Vanitas, with dark skin, white hair that... had purple tips? That was new. When the man opened his eyes, Vanitas felt his heart hammering in his chest. Though dulled from exhaustion, he'd recognise those lilac eyes anywhere. One final thing that Vanitas recognised, wasn't about the man himself; hanging from his left ear, was a blue earring in the shape of an hourglass- it had a crack down it, but none of the sand seeped out.
So many emotions and thoughts ran through Vanitas' heart and mind- how was he here? Why did he look so frail? Did these men harm him?
After a second longer, he fell back to his forced upon persona, and walked towards the man. The group stayed far away out of fear of *Mori's* wrath, though the leader cleared his throat slightly, "I must ask you not to touch him, sir. Otherwise he'll see all of your memories and faint, then he won't be of any use to you."
Vanitas simply nodded, acknowledging his words before looking at the man in front of him, "So that's your Ability? Rather useful."
The man in the chair simply scoffed, "Sure, if you only want *me* to see memories." He sounded gruff, and his voice was a little strained, as if he wasn't used to speaking, "Who are you meant to be? A wannabe gangster like the rest of those morons?"
Yeah, he'd definitely changed! Vanitas almost laughed at hearing him using a more relaxed language and insults, instead of the overly formal and gentle person he once knew. Instead, he just tilted his head with a smirk, "Introductions, then. You go first."
The man glared, then took a breath, "...Noé. Noé Archivist. That's my name."
"*Child of the Ark*." Vanitas couldn't help but reuse that old line, though his voice wasn't the same and it wasn't as loud, "My name is Ougai Mori, I am the Boss of the Port Mafia."
"That big shot criminal organisation?" Noé *did* look slightly nervous upon hearing that, but then snarled defiantly, "You may as well kill me, then. You won't get *any* use out of me."
Vanitas hummed, taking out a scalpel- this was a show for the gang, not a show for Noé, "I could easily end your life right here, it wouldn't be the first time I've slit someone's throat with my scalpel. However, I'm curious... do you have nothing left?" He watched Noé flinch, but continued, "No family or friends? No home?"
"...nothing. I have nothing." Noé started to laugh, then. It was a horrible sound, it was cracked and maniacal, the laugh of someone who knew they should be insane, but they weren't- they had nothing left except their own sanity, which just made reality all the more painful.
Once the laughter finally died out, Vanitas cleared his throat, "I'm giving you a chance to join the Port Mafia willingly, you'd be able to have a home, a family to rely on. You'll be safe, and trained to protect yourself further."
There was a moment where Noé looked tempted, and Vanitas winced internally, hoping that if Noé decided to join, that he could change his mind and beg Noé to join the Agency instead! But Noé just *spat* at Vanitas' feet and smirked, "I don't want to lose anything else. I won't be able to if I gain nothing. *Fuck off*."
Was that the first time Vanitas had ever heard Noé curse? It didn't suit him. Vanitas took a breath and turned to the leader, "We'll take him."
The leader then laughed nervously, "Before that, do you agree to help support us, and accept our services? As you can see, we're more than prepared to decimate anyone in Yokohama that's willing to stand in your way, Mr. Mori!"
"Ah. I believe you have the wrong impression of me." Vanitas glared at them, "The Port Mafia *protects* Yokohama, that is something I've dedicated my life to. If I were the Former Boss, I'd have likely agreed in a heartbeat, like a complete fool."
Apparently, this wasn't what this gang expected at all, and judging from how Noé flinched, he must've also heard an abridged version of what the Port Mafia was about. Multiple men had immediately grabbed guns, and with a snap of his fingers, Elise began to dispatch them all, while Vanitas ran forward, a scalpel in one hand, his gun in the other. Elise used her giant syringe to disarm, stab and scare the people away, while Vanitas quickly made his way to the armory, hoping to destroy it.
Unfortunately, one man against a whole gang was never going to be the best idea. Vanitas did manage to set a bomb to detonate, but before he could activate it, he was smacked in the back of the head with someone's rifle, and fell to the ground. Elise panicked, though remembered to keep up the act: "Rintaro!! Hang on, I'll go get help!!"
Nobody could catch her, and Vanitas was useless as he passed out.
*****
*Ugh, my head feels like it's splitting apart...* Vanitas managed to open his eyes, seeing that he was locked in the same room with Noé, also tied up, though not to a chair. Noé didn't have the bag over his head, and he was watching Vanitas.
"Are you okay?" He kept his voice low before explaining, "They're keeping you here for ransom. Of course, if your group are as powerful as they said, you don't have to worry, do you?"
Vanitas sat up, hating how bitter Noé sounded. That really wasn't the same voice who once promised to never set him free, to never let him be alone. A wave of dizziness hit him again, but he focused on seeing if he had at least one scalpel left, which he thankfully did- the thugs weren't smart enough to know one should never hold a Mafia Boss hostage, but they knew enough to know that it was hard to break out of zip-ties.
Noé watched the man in front of him start to free himself, but saw that he was struggling, he looked pale and nauseous. He felt a little bad and asked softly, a hint of pity in his voice: "You don't have a concussion, do you?"
That made Vanitas suddenly burst out laughing; of *course* he had a concussion, that was absolutely obvious, and he couldn't help himself, "Fuck you, Noé!"
"Fuck you, too-" He started to retort before blinking, "...what happened to your voice?" He watched as the man finished untying himself, then started to untie Noé, who frowned, "Why are you helping me? Who are you?!"
He froze when the man put his gloved hands on his cheeks, making him face him, and he heard a voice he never thought he'd hear again, "Noé... it's me. I know I look different, I'm sorry for this stupid disguise, I-!"
Vanitas was pulled into Noé's arms, and he immediately started crying. They both did. Vanitas was aware that Noé's Ability meant he could see memories through touch, but it looked like Noé's Gift only worked with skin to skin contact, judging from the way Noé held him. Vanitas buried his face into Noé's shirt, sobbing his eyes out, crying harder when he heard Noé's weakened voice, "...Vanitas..."
"It's me. I'm here, I'm alive, and so are you." Vanitas hugged Noé tighter, nuzzling his chest, "I'm so happy to see you."
Neither of them were the same oblivious idiots they once were. Both of them realised, too little too late, that they had fallen in love with each other. By the time Noé realised, Vanitas had been taken away, killed by his own hand, or so he'd thought. Vanitas didn't realise he loved Noé until his memories had returned.
Noé was still wearing the same clothes he used to wear in their world, though any purple item of clothing was replaced with blue. He ran his gloved fingers carefully through Vanitas' hair, making sure not to touch the bump left by the rifle butt, and sniffled quietly, recognising his warmth, his heartbeat and his smell, though his senses were far weaker, and he couldn't summon his fangs, he'd realised.
For now they just needed to escape. At least, that was what they should have done, but Vanitas wasn't in any fit state to fight, and Noé couldn't fight *and* protect Vanitas right now. Vanitas looked up at Noé, "How long was I out?"
"Nearly an hour, why?" He watched as Vanitas smirked, then they heard the sounds of fighting and gunshots. "The Port Mafia?"
"No," Vanitas confirmed, "Elise wouldn't get them, not with me involved."
Noé was about to ask what that meant, but then the door was suddenly ripped off its hinges, and a short, blonde haired boy grinned at them, "There you are, Vanitas! Elise came and got us, just like Ranpo predicted!"
"Did he also predict me getting smacked in the head?"
"Yes, that's why I'm here!" Vanitas laughed when he heard Yosano shouting from the hallway.
Taking Noé's hand, they stepped out- all the gang members were unconscious and tied up, Kunikida already making arrangements for all the weapons and valuables to be taken away. Noé watched as all the tension from Vanitas' shoulders disappeared like it was never there, and he smiled, "Everyone, I'd like you to meet someone."
The task had been done, so nobody was distracted. Not everyone was here, but that was fine, it meant Vanitas would have more time to help Noé adjust. He introduced the new person as his partner, which caused Noé to go beet red. Nobody looked surprised, though. When Vanitas explained what his Ability did, they all agreed to tell Mori to go sit on a dick, since he'd never be getting his hands on Noé.
*****
The trip back to the Agency was quiet, since Yosano confirmed that Vanitas had a bad concussion, and Noé was still getting used to being surrounded by people who actually had his best interests at heart. Elise had run back to Mori, with the message that the Agency would be placing Noé under their protection. The injuries they both sustained weren't bad enough that Yosano would have to use her Ability, which was good in this case, since Noé likely had no idea how Gifts worked, as he wasn't from this world.
Dazai was waiting for them all at the Agency with Ranpo, the pair of them quietly talking while Dazai held the Book of Vanitas safely in his hands- Vanitas had shown him what the Book was capable of, every aspect, so he wouldn't let anything happen to it.
The others arrived at last, and Yosano immediately took Vanitas and Noé into the infirmary, sitting them on the same bed, since Noé refused to let go of Vanitas' hand. She sat behind them, and carefully lifted the back of Vanitas' hair, letting out a quiet sigh, "Idiot smacked you so hard that you do have a cut, so I'll have to clean it. Good thing you're holding his hand, Noé."
Noé let Vanitas squeeze his hand as much as he needed to- Vanitas had gone through various experiments and torture for a lot of his life, but nothing could prepare him for the sting caused by the alcohol used to clean wounds. He didn't cry out or even hiss in pain, he just silently squeezed Noé's fingers and forced his eyes to squeeze shut. After a couple more minutes, Yosano carefully wrapped a bandage around Vanitas' head, to compress the injury and hopefully ease any swelling.
She did give Noé a look over, once Vanitas promised him that she was trustworthy, but he didn't have many injuries. Obviously he didn't get treated well and wasn't left unscathed, but it wasn't anything life threatening, just rage inducing. Noé had fresh bruises on his stomach, but he wasn't struck hard enough to cause any internal problems. There was a small scar on his shoulder, likely caused by a cigarette burn, so that was quickly cleaned and covered up.
"Okay, that's both of you all done." Yosano looked at them both, then gave Vanitas another look over, "Hmm. You're looking a lot better already, but I'll get you some painkillers and food anyway. Then the pair of you should get some rest. Kunikida made miso soup, I'll get you both some."
Once she'd left the room, Noé looked down, "...I'm sorry, Vanitas. There's so many things that I'm sorry for, but... I can't even hold you properly, I'll see your memories. That was the one promise you'd asked me to make, really." It had taken a stupidly long time for Noé to realise that Vanitas wasn't against Noé drinking his blood, he just didn't want anyone seeing his memories.
"Noé, you don't have to worry about that anymore." Vanitas looked at him, squeezing his hand again, though far more gently, "Obviously you don't have to look into my memories if you don't want to, but I'll never hurt or attack you again, if you do."
He was stunned; Vanitas once fought tooth and nail to try and kill Noé for trying to see into his memories, but now it was like he didn't care, almost like he was encouraging it! Though... was it because he wanted Noé to see his memories, or did he just want Noé to be able to touch him again? Noé tried to shake it all off- he could touch Vanitas, he'd just have to constantly avoid skin to skin contact, right? But his Ability seemed to only work once, so if he *did* take Vanitas' memories, then he could do as he wanted, he could hold Vanitas, stroke his face without wearing gloves, maybe even a ki-
"Here you go, guys." Yosano kept her voice gentle as she brought them the soup, giving Vanitas a small box of painkillers, "Eat up, then get some rest, okay? You both could use it."
"Thanks, Doctor Yosano." Vanitas smirked and gave her a quick hug before she left for the night. If anything happened, Vanitas could handle it, he was a doctor as well, after all. He took his soup, then saw that Noé seemed confused before smirking, "You just drink from the bowl, no spoons."
"R-really?" He supposed that different cultures did have different eating habits, but he wasn't used to it yet. All his captors had given him was something they'd called cheap sushi, and had laughed at him for eating them with his hands instead of those sticks he'd been provided.
The soup was flavourful, and it warmed them both up. Vanitas was grateful that it washed out the bitter taste of those painkillers, and he finally felt a little better. He looked back at Noé, who looked a lot better for the meal, then quietly asked him what was wrong- he wasn't prepared for Noé to suddenly blurt out that he's felt *different* ever since entering this world: he couldn't see the World Formula or alter it, he was unable to bare his fangs, he wasn't as fast or strong, and even all of his senses were weaker. Vanitas knew that because of Bram's Ability, Vampires were... limited, but he didn't realise that it would affect Noé in this way.
Taking a breath, Vanitas looked at him and spoke flatly, "You're not a Vampire anymore, Noé. Once you came here, you were turned into a Human." Noé was staring into space after that revelation, but Vanitas had to ask: "How did you get here?"
He was silent for a moment, then murmured softly, "I was travelling, I wanted to stay away from Paris." Obviously he was already omitting information, but Vanitas wouldn't pry just yet, he only needed the basic information first, "I... I had an accident. I got a little too close to the edge of a cliff and fell. Next thing I knew, I landed in a lake, but when I looked up, there were no cliffs at all."
Vanitas doubted that the trick of getting to this world from the other was falling from a high place, but he wouldn't be able to prove that for a very long time. Vanitas nodded and closed his eyes, "I'm glad you're okay, and I'll make sure you stay that way. I promise."
"...you don't owe me any promises." Noé's tone had changed, he sounded cold and bitter, "Vanitas, are you just going to ignore the fact that I killed you?!"
"Not ignore." He remained calm, though he hated that expression on Noé's face- oh, *now* he understood why Noé was always pissed off when Vanitas hid his emotions! He cleared his throat, "We can talk about what happened at some other point in time, but right now, I just want to talk and be with you, okay? Noé, when I came here, I had no memories. But the one thing I did have were images in my mind and pain in my heart. Even when I couldn't remember you, I truly missed you, Noé. We'll figure everything out, but for now, let's just have these moments."
Not an unreasonable request, but Noé still felt sick to his stomach. Both of them were too tired to carry on this conversation however, so Vanitas bid Noé a goodnight before going to the bed next to Noé's and falling asleep almost immediately. He hadn't even bothered to change, he just took off the coat, scarf and shoes. Noé slipped off his shoes and waistcoat, but then just found himself watching Vanitas sleep for a few moments longer. Vanitas was never openly vulnerable around him, so he wanted to commit Vanitas' sleeping face to memory.
He slowly laid down, and shut his eyes- Noé didn't like the sterilised smell of the infirmary, and the bed wasn't the softest, but at least he knew that he was safe now.
****
Noé tossed and turned in his sleep, panting as horrible nightmares persisted. His hands like claws, his eyes filled his bloodlust as his fangs were bared. Vanitas was beaten, bloodied and barely able to stand up, the Book of Vanitas hanging by his limp hand. Being a Curse-Bearer meant that his desire for blood couldn't be controlled anymore, and he *needed* to taste the sweet nectar that laid in Vanitas' veins.
But Vanitas continued to fight, throwing out curses and spells from his Book like they could do anything to Noé. Eventually, Noé had felt a warmth, and heard Vanitas' voice, saw his hand reaching out: "Noé, it's alright now. I've found your True Name, and I'll save you. Please, just don't give up."
*I don't think so~*
Naenia's voice, like the sound of broken windchimes, interrupted their moment. Just as Vanitas freed Noé, Noé's claws sank straight into Vanitas' abdomen. He screamed as he watched the colour and life drain from someone he cared about, and he couldn't even reach out properly when he fell, down off the cliff, where his body could never be recovered.
"-oé! Noé! Wake up!!"
He gasped in alarm and sat up with a start, staring with wide eyes at... *Vanitas*? It was really early in the morning, the moon was still out. Wait, what was the dream and what was reality? Noé just broke down crying, clutching Vanitas' shirt and just sobbing brokenly. Vanitas had slipped his gloves back on, and stroked Noé's hair, encouraging him to calm down and talk to him.
After a little longer, Noé did. He talked to Vanitas about the day they parted, and it took Vanitas a horribly long time to realise that Noé thought that none of this was real, that he thought this was some kind of cruel Hell or Purgatory designed to punish him for killing the man he cared about the most. Vanitas couldn't exactly prove that this was reality, because when you're that deep in denial, proof was meaningless. Plus, telling anyone that they came from one world to another was already going to sound ridiculous, even if it was just stating the facts.
He stroked Noé's cheek, and took a breath, "What happened is something we can't change, but we can move on from." Vanitas looked Noé in the eye then sighed, "If this place makes you uncomfortable, I'll find a way for you to go back. But I can't and won't return with you, it's not home for me there, anymore. I just-"
"*No*." Noé held Vanitas tighter, shaking with widened eyes, "I don't care if this is some punishment, if its all fake, I can't and won't lose you again. I don't want us separated again, I *can't*." He had tears streaming down his face as he looked into Vanitas' deep blue eyes, "Losing you was the worst pain I'd ever felt, worse than when I lost Louis. I wanted to die with you, I don't want to live without you, Vanitas! I've never felt like that before, so please don't send me away!"
Vanitas felt his heart freeze, he *hated* just how heartbroken Noé looked and sounded. There wasn't any way to completely reassure him, but Vanitas knew he had to try, especially when certain feelings needed to be taken off his chest, "Noé... this is my home now, and it would be complete if you stayed with me." He stroked Noé's face, wiping away his tears with his thumbs, "...I will never set you free."
Noé's tears dried, and he stared at Vanitas. Any mixed feelings were gone, all fear was gone. He had nothing left to lose, and Vanitas practically asked him to stay! Despite it being far too fast, despite the fact that they'd been separated for a year, there was one thing that Noé *needed* in that moment. He ran his finger across Vanitas' bottom lip, and looked into his eyes for permission, for consent.
And Vanitas gave it.
Their lips met, Vanitas gently gripping Noé's hair, as Noé wrapped his arms around Vanitas' waist, kissing him with all he had. He was vaguely aware of Vanitas' memories flooding into his mind, but he was far too focused on the present to look into the past. It was strange that the memories didn't crash into him all at once, that it was giving Noé's mind time to sort through them at his own pace, but again, he was too busy holding onto the love of his life and *kissing him*.
Unfortunately, they were both still human, and had to pull away to catch their breath. Vanitas giggled slightly, he couldn't help himself, as he stroked Noé's cheek again, "Hi."
"Hi." Noé let out a breathy laugh, nuzzling Vanitas again. No more memories came, so Noé was free to touch Vanitas however he wished. He did see everything- he glossed over the memories he already saw when he was made to drink Mikhail's blood, and he didn't need to see any darker elements after that nightmare. He saw Vanitas' life in Yokohama, and had to agree that this world was his home now, so Noé would stay, vowing to be a part of it. "...I saw your memories, but it didn't hurt."
"Maybe it's because you willingly touched me, and I accepted it?" That made sense, a lot of things were less painful with added consent.
Now that they knew Noé's Ability couldn't affect Vanitas anymore, nothing stopped them from getting into bed together, cuddling and kissing until they finally fell asleep in each others arms. Vanitas' head rested over Noé's heart, and Noé's mind wasn't plagued by any more poisonous memories that night.
Dazai would be that type of guy who, if genuinely interested/in love you, would either try to avoid you as nonchalantly as possible, or try his best to make the relationship work in a positive manner. But in the end, no matter what he does, it just falls apart regardless, because while he is capable of change, old habits die hard, and even if you had the patience of a saint, eventually you would just wonder why you're still trying in the first place. He's too used to telling lies, even if it's for the best, too busy disappearing for days on end without saying so much as a word (no one wondered where this man went when he got arrested), and while his flirtatious and womanizing habits die completely, it's still so easy to be suspicious when women still come to look for him, or when his coworkers warn you. He's just too shady as a man, both the past and present breaking apart any healthy romantic relationship he may have or want.
Kunikida is the type of guy who's just too controlling. Even if you don't fit his ideal woman image, and he's still attracted to you despite this, he'll still try to mold you into the 'perfect' woman. He sees no wrong in his actions, saying that it's for the better. Fix your hair in that style, wear little makeup, wake up at this time, start to cook at that time if possible - it's too much for you, and it will always be too much for you, because at the end, you're not a doll to dress up, and he doesn't have the right to do as such. Kunikida is too strict, and he'll only realize it when you leave the next day, not even leaving a note behind.
Ranpo is too haughty, too confusing and annoying to deal with. A balanced relationship is nearly impossible with him, because his head is just so far up his ass. He wants to impress you, but he also thinks that his presence alone should be enough for that. He talks down to you, assuming you understand where he's coming from. He's prideful, and while he does calm down with everything later on, it's still out there. Relationships are confusing to him, he doesn't know how to approach them, or you, so he fumbles a little too much, insults you a little too hard. He means well, he wants to make you happy, but he's too self centered without meaning to. It's just who he is, he's capable of change, but even dealing with dazai is a bit easier, compared to Ranpo who is socially inept.
Atsushi doesn't even know how to make friends on his own. The friends he has now are only friends because they took the first step, in that direction, and he just went with the flow. It's not necessary a bad thing, but when it comes to relationships, it might be worse. He likes you, and you like him, but it's hard to understand why you're interested in him to begin with. He sees himself as worthless, his past trauma following him within the shadows, and his need for validation from you is almost too much to handle. It starts out small, asking things like 'do you like me?' 'Are you happy with me?' But delevops into something darker, needier, 'you were looking at him too long. You're not thinking of cheating on me, right?' 'Why didn't you text me back until an hour later? Are you doing something - someone?' Which leaves you in shock, never having expecting this behavior from him. You understand why he's like this, but it's suffocating, he's suffocating, and part of you feels like you're just proving him right when you break up on the spot, done with months of dealing with this, despite trying your best to prove him wrong, staying patient until even that ran out.
junichiro's relationship to his sister is too suspicious and creepy. Even so, you still said yes, because he showed he was interested in you, and started to dial down... Whatever was going on with his sister. Naomi was a sweet girl, she tries to be respectful, but you can still see the hints of disdain she has towards you, and junichiro would take her side majority of the time. He tends to ignore you for her, and sometimes it's a little too much, even it makes Namoi a bit confused and concerned. And if you take that out of the equation, there's just something dark about him in general, hidden underneath that innocent exterior he shows to everyone. His grip a little too tight, words a bit too vague, and if his sister wasn't a deal breaker, him stalking you throughout the day is. He wants to keep it healthy, but because of his nature, he tends to think and do things he shouldn't, morals gray on good days.
Fukuzawa is too busy and distant to date properly. His focus will always be on his employees, his agency he built from the ground up, and at first, it insipres you. But after a while, you start to notice there's barely any time for you, and when he is with you, he's always far away in his own world, leaving early for Ranpo. You tried to understand, but you just can't, not when he's pushing you aside for his job, and the fact he keeps everything vague about his job doesn't help.
Yosano is a sadist. There is regret, but before that is pleasure, and she enjoys hurting you a little too much. Maybe it's because she has the need to have control over something, and thus having control over how much pain she can inflict on you is comforting for her. She's beautiful, and can be sweet, but there's always a hidden gleam in those golden eyes, and her smirk has always been a bit too sinister, leaving you to wonder if saying yes was a mistake. Her hands try to be gentle, but bruises are always left behind, and by the next day they're gone, your head fully refreshed, but when you managed to wake up during the night one time, a knife above you, she can't really blame you for running.
Even after everything, the relationship with them will be nothing short of toxic.
To be burned in light
(While Kouyou's in the Agency's clutches, she and Atsushi have an unexpected talk. Atsushi reveals he understands her situation better than Kouyou realises.
Tw for talking about child abuse.)
Atsushi hesitated, his hand hovering over the doorknob. He should leave, he was done here. Kouyou was doing well, she was updated on the plan with Dazai.
The peace between them was delicate. The whole time Atsushi felt like he was standing on ice. One wrong move and it would crack, sending him falling into the icy depths.
What Atsushi wanted to say would no doubt get him stabbed. He would deserve it too, because he would absolutely be crossing a line.
And yet, at the same time Atsushi felt it needed to be.
"Ozaki"
The Port Mafia Executive sighed, exasperated "what now boy?" She was certain he'd have ran the moment they were finished. The whole time he'd been civil but out of duty.
Much like herself.
Oh sure Kouyou wanted to attack him. But now wasn't the time for that, not when Kyouka's safety was on the line.
The Agency wouldn't take kindly too the weretiger showing up bleeding out. Besides, Dazai was the brains behind this operation and he'd taken the brat under his wing.
He'd always been protective over who he deemed as his people. Not that Kouyou could say much, she was the same.
"For what it's worth, I'm sorry." Said Atsushi. Kouyou smiled but it wasn't kind. "Whatever for? Taking my dear Kyouka from me?"
Atsushi held back a wince at at. It wasn't the words themselves, but the tone. Chilling, barely restrained rage that reminded Atsushi all to well of the Headmaster.
Atsushi had his back to her but that didn't mean he couldn't feel her sharp gaze on him. He took a deep breath and braced himself.
"I'm sorry that the light burned you."
The smile on Kouyou's face fell. Whatever she was expecting him to say, it wasn't that. Her mind went blank, she couldn't formulate a response. And even if she could, what do you say to that?
Atsushi took her silence and that he wasn't being stabbed, as a sign go continue.
"I don't know you, I won't pretend that I do. Or that we're anything but maybe allies but..." Atsushi takes a deep breath in "the light won't burn Kyouka."
Anger.
Anger like Kouyou had never felt in her life filled her veins. Her composure shattered.
"You know nothing! How dare you, you drag my Kyouka into this destructive light. And than you have the audacity to say that you can gurrantee her safety."
Atsushi didn't so much as flinch at her words. He turned around to face her. The look in his eyes was not one of fright or fear like Kouyou expected, but sadness.
"Because the light burned me too." His voice was soft but there was a strength to it that hadn't been there before. Kouyou was taken aback, she was still angry but curious.
"I was born into darkness. I'll spare you the details but my parents were awful people. One thing led to another and eventually they threw me out" He chuckled, but there was no humour in it.
"Literally, in a rubbish bag. But someone found me, let me out and took me back to his Orphanage." Atsushi wasn't looking at her.
His gaze was fixed on the wall behind her. But it felt like was looking at a person.
"He was the Headmaster. He gave me clean clothes to wear, a place to sleep. And even took the leftovers they had and cooked me some Chakuze. It was the best meal I ever had."
He shakes his head, a sad smile on his face.
"So I ended up staying, not like I had anywhere to go. And I was in debt to him. I'd be dead without him, so I did whatever he ordered me too like a servant to a king."
Atsushi looks at Kouyou. "You stabbed me when we met." It's not accusatory, there's no anger in it he just states it like a fact. "I did" confirms Kouyou, not sure where he's going with this.
"I stopped bleeding before Kunikida and Kenji showed up. Akutugawa cut off my leg off, it came back in minutes." Said Atsushi.
Kouyou nodded, unable to move her gaze away. It's true she stabbed the boy, anyone else would be left wailing in agony before suffering a slow death.
Even without Kyouka's intrusion. Kouyou was one of the best assassins in the Port Mafia for a reason.
She hadn't known Akutugawa had done that. And here it was, like nothing had ever happened.
The weretiger had an incredible healing factor, so to have scars that were clearly years old seemed impossible.
And yet here they were.
She'd have thought he was lying if she didn't know Akutugawa. Or of she hadn't fought the weretiger prior.
"I was mopping the bathroom, knocked over a bucket of water." Explained Atsushi, letting his shirt roll back into place. "I wasn't referring to a literal burn" Said Kouyou, regaining her composure.
But Atsushi just chuckled.
"Yeah, I know. But I figured it'd get my point across."
His smile fell "the man who saved my life turned into my own personal nightmare. That might be the only scar I have to show for it, but I should have so much more."
Kouyou found herself believing him. People like that never striked once, especially if it began over something so trivial."You're afraid we'll do the same to Kyouka."
Kouyou nodded "it's a fair assumption. Besides, how do I know this isn't all a rouse conjured up by your mentor to win me pity."
Even she knew that wasn't the case, but it was hard to accept this. That this boy on some level understood her, that he was trying to reach an understanding with her.
"No one in the Agency knows about my past." Said Atsushi. Kouyou raised an eyebrow in disbelief but Atsushi just shrugged.
"It's true. They know it was rough. But they don't know the details. It took Dazai so long to believe I got kicked out in the first place."
The kid was practically transparent. He was like an open book. A liar he was not and despite herself Kouyou deemed what he was saying truthful.
"Than why tell your enemy? I could easily use this against you."
Atsushi shook his head, amused "can't be any worse than I use it against myself. And if you do... Well it was for Kyouka anyway so it was worth it."
That suprised her.
Kouyou had noticed, she'd have to be blind not to see that the weretiger had a fondness for Kyouka. Almost like that of an older brother, but how? "Why would you go so far for her? You barely know her."
Because as much as Kouyou wanted to deny it, the lad did care. He had been alight with protective fury, so much so he'd been about to attack her before Dazai stepped in.
All because he deemed her a threat to Kyouka. He hadn't cared that she'd attacked him, only that she could hurt Kyouka. That's where his priorities lied, it was clear as day.
She expected the usual response, that it was because he was of the Armed Detective Agency. That he was on the good and just side that saved lives. But that was not the response she got.
"It sounds dumb but... When I saw her on the train with that bomb strapped to her chest. All I could think, was that she looked scared." He hugged his arms around himself.
"I've always been helpless, too powerless to do anything. No one was ever there to help me, no one wanted too. When I looked at Kyouka, I saw myself." Said Atsushi, a frown on his face as he recalled that fight.
"I didn't want to fight her, I had no choice. We found out the bomb was rigged. Kyouka, she said she didn't want to kill anyone else and jumped out the train. I went after her, destroyed the bomb and we fell into the water."
Kouyou absorbed this, and made several mental notes to have a word with Akutugawa... Because to strap a bomb on her Kyouka and rig it to explode no matter what.... He was going to pay for it.
"I see, I can't say I quite understand your reasonings... But I am glad you were there." Kouyou admitted, Atsushi blinked in suprise but than smiled.
"Of course."
Atsushi's gaze flickered to the wall again before looking at her. "The women who treated your wounds was Doctor Yosano. She once worked under your Boss, back when he was underground doctor."
But she wasn't content to let this end there.
"But you may care for her, reluctant as I am to admit it. But who's to say your fellow Agency members won't shun her away. That they won't do as your Headmaster once did to you."
Kouyou blinked in suprise, she hadn't known that. Though it made sense she supposed. Looking back the doctor was kind but she was quite sadistic for one living in the light.
"We didn't even know Dazai was former Port Mafia up until recently, and frankly no one cares." Said Atsushi with a small fond smile. "... I can't tell if that's endearing or stupid" replied Kouyou.
Somehow his confidence was infectious, because she felt her worry dim.
Atsushi shrugs "and well, the President was a former assassin. And between you and me, his ability might just be adopting strays. He wouldn't turn her away." He said, and it honestly suprised Kouyo to hear the unwavering confidence in his voice as he spoke of his boss.
It was still there, but it was less than before. Kouyou knew Fukuzawa, not personally but she'd heard enough to back that claim from Mori himself.
"Will I be able to see her?"
Atsushi looked at her in suprise and Kouyou scoffed. "You haven't won me over yet brat." But it was clear she was wavering. Atsushi didn't comment on it though.
"That'll be up to her. But I won't stop you, neither will anyone else unless Kyouka declines or you become a threat to her."
That, Kouyou would agree with. It didn't escape her that the weretiger specified if she became became a threat to Kyouka. Both of them knew once she returned to the Port Mafia, this alliance was over.
... But maybe this alliance could last just a little longer.
"Very well, I agree to those terms." Said Kouyou. Atsushi nodded, turning to the door. "We can talk when I get another update, but I've taken up too much of you're time. I should go."
He got up to leave but Kouyou stopped him. "Before you go, what is your name?." Atsushi paused, suprised and turned back to her. "It's Atsushi. Atsushi Nakajima."
Kouyou nodded, committing the name to memory. "Thank you, Nakajima." She waved her hand dismissively and Atsushi bid her goodbye and left.
She'd lied, she had another question but hadn't been prepared to ask. Probably because Kouyou had already figured out the answer.
'Why did he apologise?'
It was because Atsushi had looked at her, and he'd seen himself. His Headmaster had never apologised, the man probably never would. So Atsushi had apologised to her, just incase it helped.
Kouyou chuckled to herself, what a strange boy.
She looked out the window, watching the bright cloudless sky. 'I will take you out there and show you the radiant world.' Was what he'd said.
Before the ex Boss found out. And the very light she'd become entranced by, was the very same light that burned her.
Dazai had told her the same fate would not befall Kyouka. But it wasn't until now that Kouyou believed him.It will be kinder to Kyouka than it ever was to her.
'And I hope it this radiant light will he kind to you, Nakajima.'
(To clarify on Atsushi's past, because there's a lot of headcannons about it.
The only part that's confirmed in canon is the burn scars, but not the cause though it seems linked to punishment involving chores. And that yes Atsushi's parents threw him away in a bin in a rubbish bag.)
omg would u do. vampire dazai x reader 👁️ u can decline this request since it technically falls as a AU :)
a/n: no need to worry! AU's that are easy to understand are fine with me :D hope u enjoy, anon!
Tumblr media
pairing: Vampire!Dazai Osamu X GN!Reader cw: not proofread, suggestive//, mentions of blood desc: after a long day of working at the Agency, instead of coming home, you ran off to go meet your beloved in an abandoned building not too far from the city.
“ I’m off Kunikida!,” you waved at your blonde coworker as you had hurriedly walked out the door. You adjusted your messenger bag over your shoulder as you practically skipped out the door with a smile. Kunikida raised a brow at your chipper attitude, but ignored the thought, continuing to write up his report for the end of the day. You fidgeted with you bag, digging for a pair of keys as you walked over to your car that was parked on the street. You had been waiting for quite a while to see someone in particular, someone who you’d fallen in love with. Though you had to make sure that your meetings only happened every few days out of the month. This person that you were going to see… didn’t exactly want to be seen amongst the public. It wasn’t for the reason that they were a criminal, or that they’d simply never wanted to go outside… No, you were off to see your beloved partner, Dazai Osamu: a vampire.
You had made your way off to the outskirts of Yokohama, making sure that no one was following you. Your partner had sent you a letter mentioning how he’d missed you dearly, wanting to see your face again. Obviously, you obliged and were now headed towards the location where you were to meet him: an abandoned mansion just on the way out of the city.
On your way, you contemplated how you had even got into this situation in the first place. It all started off with an innocent job: trying to find out the source of certain animal and camper killings on the outskirts of the city… then finding out it wasn’t just a crazed bear or even a wolf… and then trying to cover up the story in your own way while also falling in love with the said perpetrator: Dazai.
Eventually, you made your way to the abandoned mansion that he called a home. You stepped out of the car and walked up to the old stone steps that were becoming entangled in vines, similar to it’s walls. You stared at the dark wooden doors for a moment before pushing them open, as they creaked under the pressure. The heels of your shoes hit the ground, making a clacking noise as you stepped inside with no fear in your eyes. Though, on the inside, you felt like your heart was beating out of your chest in excitement.
You were met with the inside of the mansion: rather dark and brooding. The interior being a pattern of black and white, but all the lights were off. “ Osamu?,” you called out into the void of the room. Suddenly, a gust of wind flew past you in a rush, but you did not flinch… even when a cold hand held your warm one: the other leaning you neck back as you felt a breathe on your neck. “ There you are, sweet angel” a rough, yet sweet voice dripped into your ears like honey. It was Dazai’s voice, that which made your chest swell up. He gently kissed your neck, making your shiver. He let out a soft hum as he felt your body react to his action. Once again, he left another kiss on your neck, and then another until it turned from soft pecks to open mouthed kisses. You hums turned into soft moans as he had only kissed deeper. You let out a gasp as he gently grazed his teeth over your neck, but had pulled back to prevent himself. “ So sensitive…,” he muttered, before turning you around in his arms,” I missed you.” “ I missed you too,” you muttered, putting a hand over your mouth, as you’d felt slightly embarrassed for letting out such noises. Dazai frowned, pulling your hand away from your face and gently caressing your face with his nimble fingers. You only looked up at him in awe as his face grew into a toothy grin, showing off the fang that had touched your neck. Eventually, he put a thumb on your button lip, opening your mouth slightly. He chuckled to himself, letting go of your face,” I’m getting a little hungry.” You blinked out of your daze and shook your head.
“ You can just take a bite if you really want,” you muttered, shoving the side of your collar out of the way. He smirked, nodding and then moved towards your lips. Your forehead was touching his as his red eyes looked into yours. It was almost as if he was asking for permission. Not wanting to wait any longer, you moved to connect your lips with his. He accepted, kissing back as you opened your mouth. While you were kissing, his hands moved to unbutton a couple buttons off your shirt. You let out a moan as his cold hands touched your skin. Tongues dancing, he broke the kiss and gently kissing up your jaw and down to your neck. He stopped himself again before kissing that spot gently once again. Despite his desperation and hunger, Dazai still tried to be gentle with you. You let out a whine and he knew you were growing impatient, so he grinned before opening his mouth: the fangs of his canines moving to sink into the skin of your neck. You let out a loud groan as Dazai had bit you. He watched as blood fell from your neck and he quickly sucked it up, though retracted his teeth to relieve you from your pain.
He pulled away, licking his lips. You seemed dazed once again as you watched him do so: your face feeling hot. “ That’s better…,” Dazai kissed your lips before looking at you. “ Yeah…,” was the only thing that came out of your mouth before you looked into his eyes, now filled with lust. “ Should we leave it at that, or can I feast on my lovely dessert,” he whispered close to your face. This time, you were the one to smirk,” Do with me what you want, ‘Samu…”
— say that you love me // go on and fool me.
what if they fall in love?
aka a twisted manual for romancing bsd's fine men (fyodor + nikolai + soukoku + kunikida)
notes/warnings. not fluff!!; implied manga spoilers; unedited; feel free to leave your thoughts!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
fyodor
fyodor wouldn't let himself fall into this foolish sentiment called "love," unless he's completely aware of it, and it's by his own intention.
he can and will manipulate someone into thinking that he loves them, using them for whatever godforsaken ploy he is inciting. not through intimate gestures or words, but through just about enough allusion that the poor victim will be dancing in his palm - chasing a faux hope that the man actually sees them as something more than a pawn.
when he really is interested in someone, however, be warned that it is and will never be a good omen.
everyone is a fool in his eyes. some particular fools however, he is very interested in playing around with and seeing how their foolishness eventually becomes their demise.
he will be very looking forward to seeing you break. not by him, it's more amusing to see you ruin yourself. do not approach at any case.
nikolai
for you brave souls: this little clown is fine. he just has one or two loose screws in his head.
nikolai's "love" far resembles that of a childish excitement upon acquiring a new plaything. they will keep on playing with it until they're bored of it.
he will be terribly interested in someone that he deems can "understand" him. but even then, the attraction can take a very warped and twisted sense. this funny man tried to kill the "one person that can understand him" because he thinks he'll achieve "freedom." this is the farthest you can get "love" from nikolai.
it's best to remember to practice caution, as this little "attraction" is prone to develop into infatuation and obsession - the worst kind of "love"
he will pester and play around with you for a while. not to get your approval or reciprocation, but more to satisfy his own curiosity. god forbid he starts taking drastic measures.
if he's bored of you, he'll cast you aside, like an outdated, unwanted stuffed toy. if he comes to the conclusion that you can't truly "understand" him, he will feel genuinely betrayed before solemnly, kindly set you free. tread carefully, or do not tread at all.
ada! dazai
a man whose soul is as fractured as his won't even see himself being capable of "loving" someone. regardless of the truth.
if someone is showing signs of attraction, he'll use it to his own advantage. not unlike a certain man-devil.
when it comes to someone he cares for, however, he'll push them away before letting anything further happens. even if it means disregarding his own sentiments. he would much rather just watch over you from the darkness, from where you don't and should never belong.
dazai does not like the idea of trusting, let alone being vulnerable in front of someone else. commitment is as foreign as being human. and letting oneself be indulged in the feeling of love is a whole new sense of trust in dazai's eyes.
play safe, be adequately persistent. but take care to not end up being simply one of dazai's stepping stones. alternatively, you can play along with his game and see who loses first.
chuuya
the mafia executive, as all mafia executives should be, does not trust people easily.
it will make all the more sense if you consider the past neither he nor we would rather talk about.
his impulsive and somewhat violent behaviors got placated as he ages. chuuya will know how to conduct proper decorum, and can partially bite his tongue if someone gets on his nerves; when it is absolutely, completely necessary for him to not murder that person then and there. so it is safe to conduct an approach, but it's best to practice caution and take care to avoid certain topics.
there are the two types of "i don't trust you": the very hostile "what're you planning to do, bastard?" and the "i'm not actively trying to kill you and am talking normally with you. but that doesn't mean i already trust you."
the second one is the most possible crevice to exploit. chuuya is playing with fire. if you get lucky, he'll actually burn himself.
denial! denial! denial! it is likely that the gravity wielder will only be able to acknowledge his raw, genuine sentiments (both to you and to himself) if you are already within death's reach. a hefty price. decide wisely.
just take care to not betray him, whether it's by your own hands, or by the ploy of fate. he is a kind soul, persisting in a gilded, barbed cage; loyal to a fault. the amount of loyalty and trust that he will give to you once he decides you're worthy of them will be more than some people can give, or more than you can even accept.
kunikida
i was thoroughly convinced that kunikida isn't even capable of experiencing romantic attraction until i read the first light novel.
this man has an atrocious amount of criteria for his "ideal spouse," which are pretty much impossible to fit into every single one.
if you happen to fulfill some or most of the criteria, of course, he will feel a sort of attraction to you. but again, kunikida isn't one to quickly make amends with his feelings. if being asked, or getting teased about his growing affection, he'll argue back with a "they're a client!" or "they're my coworker! it's terribly unprofessional!"
he'll even try to convince himself with those arguments, too. if it doesn't work, kunikida will remind himself that you don't actually fit ALL of his criteria; you don't abide by his ideals.
let it simmer. be patient. play coy. be agreeable and cooperative, then let time do its work.
Tumblr media
endnotes. i have no idea what i'm doing🗿 all was written based on my interpretations of the characters! i was on a very angsty and dramatic mood i'm supposed to be doing my assignments so this came out. thank you very much for reading!
okay two versions of mafia dazai x ada kunikida + their adopted son atsushi
one
dark era
ok this would probably end up being an accidental fix it but um anyway
picture this, dark era dazai wandering around thinking up a new way to commit suicide
kunikida on his way back to the ada office after a mission
and atsushi who has managed to escape the orphanage and now is wandering in a new town
atsushi meets dazai while dazai's trying to drown himself like in canon
atsushi meets kunikida who notices a small starving kid drag someone out the river and immediately rushes to help
at this point kuni and dazai dont know each other
anyway
kunikida takes atsushi to eat and the drowning man is also there; they talk; atsushi is sweet
dazai's like "starving child do u wanna come with me" while kunikida is also inviting him to come w/ him to find a place to stay
now u might think why would dazai do this well idk something about a small child starving and exhausted but still finding in himself to help a stranger even tho itll leave him wet and cold was so surprising he didnt know what to do
and kunikida is just... kunikida and idk he's a nice guy
anyway
dazai and kunikida both argue atsushi should come with them and dazais like this guys probably right but its funny to see him riled up
anyway so theyre like okay whatever atsushi wut do u want
and atsushi, sweet tiny traumatized atsushi, doesn't wanna upset these ppl who seem so nice so he says both
and so the custody agreement starts
at first dazai doesn't tell anyone about atsushi becuz um who would want to admit they adopted a child to rile up a hot blond but
eventually as dazai and kunikida grow close to atsushi and to each other they find out about their jobs
kunikida is not happy about letting his son (whos only 4 years younger than him) live with mafia ppl around and makes dazai swear to protect him and dazais like okay fine ig
anyway
the only ppl who know atsushi in the mafia are oda and ango becuz um besties
chuuya knows somethings up but he hasnt quite figured it out
akutagawa has met atsushi but he doesn't know about atsushi and dazai
he does know this sweet kid who always greets him with a smile is under shared custody over two guys his brother who call themselves his dad but ya
atsushi isnt hiding it he's just shy around his first ever crush
anyway
atsushi loves the ada and fully wants to join but he also loves dazai but he has no desire to be with the mafia sense dazai has never let him meet anyone in the mafia while theyre on the clock if that makes sense
so essentially as my tags of the last post said
atsushi is the child of divorce that has to constantly move in between homes
but his parents are four years older than him
and not divorced becuz they arent even dating yet
and also he's accidentally the reason theyll ever get together
and also his homes r two rival organizations
anyway the fix it part comes from dazai having his in law family to help out when mimic comes but do with that what u will
and also same concept but theyre all older
A Kunichuuzai fic cuz they are one of my favorite ot3s.
Fragile: Please Handle with Care
The way Chuuya was shaking and crying in Kunikida’s arms made his heartbreak. Meanwhile, Dazai sat solid as stone and stared into memory on the bed above them. He was mumbling to himself but Kunikida could make out a few words, ‘boss’, ‘favorites’, ‘accident’. He eventually decided to move chuuya and himself when he saw the tear tracks running down Dazai’s face.
It all started when a very drunk Dazai made a joke about Kunikida not being able to be in charge of Chuuya and him in bed. They all had been sexually involved with each other for a while, yet Kunikida was never given the chance to be in control like that. After some quick bickering and teasing all because of Dazai’s comment, the three of them drunkenly agreed Kunikida would be in charge tonight. No one knew that something was going to go very wrong.
-
The three men returned to Chuuya’s lavish apartment. Dazai and Chuuya had had a few too many drinks and all three of them were horny. Kunikida was carrying a very desperate Chuuya who clung to him with his legs wrapped around his waist. He was grinding his very hard cock into Kunikida’s stomach through his pants. Dazai stumbled in right behind, still holding a bottle of wine. He was being forcibly led by one of Kunikida’s hands that had intertwined itself in the brunette's hair.
Kunikida tossed Dazai onto the couch. He fell against the cushions and let out a soft grunt while struggling to keep the wine bottle upright.
“You could be gentler!” Dazai complained.
Kunikida raised an eyebrow at his partner, “You could listen better.”
Chuuya chuckled from his spot, still clinging to Kunikida. “If you listened you might get to have a little more fun like I am.”
“What fun would that be, Slug? Grinding myself desperately into him.” Dazai mocked taking a large swig from the wine bottle.
Kunikida smiled at the redhead, “or this.”
Kunikida captured Chuuya's mouth in a kiss. Their lips crashing together in drunk desperation. The smaller man ground his hips harder into Kunikida’s abdomen. The blonde moved his hands around grabbing Chuuya’s ass. Kunikida moved the smaller man with ease, using his hands to grind Chuuya’s hips faster into his own body.
Dazai sat on the couch, his boner painfully obvious from the tent in his pants. He was white knuckling the bottle in his hand, any tighter and the glass might have shattered.
“Bedroom. Now.” Kunikida broke his kiss with Chuuya to bark out the order at Dazai. The brunette took off without a single snarky comment back. Kunikida had learned the other detective was a better listener as soon as you made him horny enough. Kunikida went to follow but Chuuya’s voice made him pause.
“Grab the wine for meee,” Chuuya slurred. Kunikida let out a small laugh and grabbed the abandoned bottle of wine from the table where Dazai had left it. He handed it over to the redhead who grabbed it and started downing the dark red liquid.
As chuuya chugged wine, Kunikida brought them over to the bedroom. Dazai was waiting patiently on the bed just like kunikida ordered. When they crossed the threshold, Kunikida put Chuuya down.
“On your knees in front of the bed,” Kunikida ordered.
“Yes sir,” Chuuya slurred. He stumbled over to stand next to the bed ending up in front of Dazai.
“You’re such a lightweight, slug,” Dazai blurted out, laughing at chuuya.
“Like you’re any better! You’re just as drunk as I am,” Chuuya yelled back. He began gesturing with his hands at Dazai. The motion caused the wine to slosh around in the bottle, drops of red liquid were now running down the outside of the bottle.
“If you two keep arguing things are going to get much worse for you,” Kunikida cut in.
“Sorry,” They immediately responded. Both boys stiffened up looking much more attentive than they did a moment ago.
“A punishment isn’t useful unless it is effective.” Kunikida said in his usual matter of fact tone. “And I’ve been thinking of ways to punish Dazai for some time. I do believe they’d work on you too Chuuya.”
“We understand. We’re so sorry, bos-,” Dazai apologized. Dazai cut himself off before he finished the last word. Leaving Kunikida a bit confused but overall happy that Dazai was being so obedient.
“And give me the bottle of wine before you spill it. If you make a mess there are going to be even more consequences.”
Chuuya’s shaky hand shot out, holding the glass bottle out for Kunikida to take.
“Looks like you two know how to behave after all.”
Kunikida went to grab the wine bottle from the redhead, but with how shaking the shorter man’s hand was and the wine dripping down the side, it caused the bottle to slip from the blonde's hand. It fell and shattered on the floor between him and the mafia executive. A small puddle of wine and glass flooded the hardwood.
‘Damn. Guess I was the one to drop it after all that.’ Kunikida thought to himself. ‘That needs to be cleaned up quickly or it will stain…’
An idea then dawned on the tall man, “Clean it up,” he ordered the redhead. The agency member was too busy keeping an eye on the spreading stain that he missed the major shift in Chuuya’s body language.
“Y-yes boss…”. Chuuya mumbled, falling to his knees quickly.
“Boss?” Kunikida looked at Chuuya confused. Chuuya was already on his knees shaking like a leaf in autumn. Blood was smeared on the floor from the glass now wedged into the redhead's knees. It was as if he didn’t look before he dropped onto them a moment ago. His eyes focused on the shattered glass in front of him frantically cleaning up the shards with his bare hands, cutting himself in the process.
“Chuuya! Don’t hurt yourself.” The worry in Kunikida's voice was evident.
The redhead didn’t seem to hear him; he just kept picking up glass shards.
“Chuuya…”
“I’m sorry,” Chuuya’s eyes never left the floor. “Punish me, Boss. I deserve it.”
‘Punish him for my accident? I know what I said earlier but… it wasn’t his fault? And he’s calling me Boss?’ Kunikida’s thoughts were beginning to fill with questions he needed to ask. First though, he had to calm down Chuuya.
“It’s okay Chuuya. Please stop,” Kunikida’s voice came out like he was talking to a scared animal. He took a step towards the smaller man. The motion caused Chuuya to violently flinch.
“I’m sorry! I’m s-sorry! Imsorry! M’sorry…” Chuuya apologized as he began to shake even harder. He ripped off his hat with one bloody hand throwing the glass he was holding with his other inside it.
Kunikida turned his attention to Dazai for help or an explanation. What he found was Dazai sitting still as stone. He had never seen the demon prodigy so pale.
“Dazai…” Kunikida said, gaining his partner's attention.
When Dazai met his gaze, Kunikida saw just how empty his eyes were. It felt like Dazai was looking through him, not at him.
Kunikida tried again, “Dazai?”
“…”
“Osamu?” Kunikida tried one last time to get Dazai’s attention. It didn’t work. Dazai remained in the state he was in. Kunikida was too smart to think this had anything to do with him anymore. These two had gone through something kunikida couldn’t imagine.
A sob forced its way out of Chuuya's body drawing Kunikida’s attention back to the mafia executive. Chuuya was beginning to hyperventilate while he continued to try and clean. He dropped two more handfuls of bloody broken glass into his hat. There were significantly more cuts on the smaller man’s palm and fingers than a moment ago, drops of blood were starting to mix with the wine on the floor. Kunikida cursed himself for not trying harder to stop Chuuya sooner.
Kunikida took a cautious step towards the mafia executive. Again the redhead flinched but kunikida didn’t stop moving this time. The blonde man knelt down next to Chuuya pulling off his tan vest as he did.
“Hold this. We need to stop the bleeding,” Kunikida stuck his vest out. His eyes never moved from the mess of a man on the floor.
“It’s not cleaned up yet. I can clean it up. I can-“ Chuuya’s voice faded out as Kunikida forced the vest into his hands. He flinched when the fabric touched his open cuts. They met eyes for a moment. Chuuya’s eyes were wide open and there was no hiding the fear that Chuuya was feeling.
Kunikida spoke softly to the redhead, “Can I touch you?”
Chuuya's expression changed to confusion but nodded yes to Kunikida anyway. Kunikida gently put a hand on chuuya shoulder, rubbing gentle circles. When he saw Chuuya take a less shaky breath Kunikida moved his arm completely around his shoulders. The mafia executive fell apart in his arms. His sobs became much louder again and he curled into the blonde man’s chest as he cried.
Kunikida heard a voice from behind him. He couldn’t make out what was being said, only able to make out a word here and there. “Favorite”, “accident”, “boss”.
“Dazai…” Kunikida looked over his shoulder. Dazai was still just as pale as before. This time there were two glistening streaks down his face. His tears dripped from his cheeks onto his bandaged arms that were wrapped around his body holding himself tight.
Kunikida sighed, his chest felt tight watching the most composed man he knew crack in front of him.
“I’m going to move you a bit,” Kunikida warned Chuuya. The smaller man nodded into his chest.
Kunikida scooped up the mafia executive as smoothly as he could. Transferring both of them onto the bed next to Dazai.
“Can I touch you?” Kunikida asked his partner.
Dazai nodded. Kunikida pulled him to his other side. When he did, Dazai let out a broken sob. They stayed like that for a little while. Kunikida gently rubbed their backs, providing any sort of comfort he could.
Dazai stopped crying first. He lifted his head up and straightened his bandages out avoiding eye contact with the blonde man watching him.
Dazai’s horse voice broke the silence, “I can start explaining if you want…”
“I’d like to know. But-“ Kunikida answered. He motioned to Chuuya who wasn’t crying anymore but still hasn’t moved from his position tucked into Kunikida’s chest. “-Only if you both are okay with it.”
“Mori,” Dazai started to explain. “He started touching me when I was 14. Back before he was the boss of the Port Mafia. It was never violent back then. He used to lie and give me all sorts of drugs saying it was good for suicide. Then he would do things to me while I was too drugged to move. It didn’t get violent and abusive until after he became the boss. He found his power could come out in many new ways. When the drugs were mixed with hard punishments he almost seemed joyful. It only happened like that a few times to just me… then Chuuya joined…”
“I made him worse,” Chuuya’s words were muffled. His face was still buried. His fist now clung to Kunikida’s shirt like that of a small child. It created a few stains from the blood still seeping from a few cuts that had glass wedged deep into them.
“He was already getting worse. It wasn’t you,” Dazai said, trying to comfort his old partner.
Chuuya's voice was small and shaking but still Chuuya started to explain his side of things, “It started with him being a bit nicer to me. He gave me jobs that had clearance way above what I should’ve been doing, so I could progress faster in the mafia. He spoiled me every time I came back from a successful mission, dinners, gifts, that sort of stuff. He even let me talk back at meetings without repercussions.”
Dazai took a deep breath before he took over, “He only started calling Chuuya in after we fucked up our first mission. I knew how the night would go as soon as I received the message. I got there first just as Mori had planned. He did it so he could watch me beg to spare Chuuya. Of course that didn’t work. He wanted to ‘break Chuuya in’.”
Kunikidas shirt started to cling to his skin. A wet spot had formed on the front of it. Chuuya had started crying again.
Chuuya straightened up pulling himself together the best he could to continue, “Then we messed up. I knew something was wrong as soon as we came back. Dazai usually would come back from missions and run off to try a new method of suicide but this time he dissapeard to go report to Mori first.
“I was called in an hour later. When I walked into the office Dazai was on his knees in front of Mori… he had Mori’s cock in his mouth, fresh bruises and was only half dressed. Even his bandages were starting to unravel. I froze for a bit at first, not sure what to do. Mori reassured me that Dazai was okay with what was happening. The more he takes the more I knew it wasn’t like that at all. Not that I could do anything Mori started to lead me around soon after. He showed me what he wanted me to do when we got punished in this way. I remember him telling me how this was an ‘unusual punishment’. I shouldn’t worry too much about it happening again. Surprise surprise, that was a lie…”
“The boss started to like Chuuya more than me as time went on,” Dazai visibly grimaced, “We all know his type. I was starting to look too old to play with and well, Chuuya’s smaller. It was easier for him to pretend that he was younger.”
Chuuya rolled his eyes. “Fucking pervert.”
Even despite falling apart a few moments ago the redhead was trying his hardest to seem back to normal.
“Chuuya you’re one of the most powerful gifted I know. How did he…?” Kunikida started to ask but not finishing it when he realized it might be too much.
“That’s why he kept Dazai nearby.” Chuuya answered. “Part of it was to force him to watch the punishment I received. The other part was he was there to help stop me if I started to act out.”
Chuuya shivered, gripping Kunikida again as memories filled his head.
Dazai didn’t need to be told to take over before he continued to explain, “When Chuuya tried to fight back a couple times too many, Mori learned he could just tie us together so there wasn’t even the possibility Chuuya could use his ability. After he realized how well that worked, it happened more and more.”
Chuuya curled back into Kunikida. The harsher details were making it harder and harder to remain calm as they told Kunikida their tales.
Dazai’s eyes were glassy again watching something no one else could see, “I still have the scars from all the times Chuuya would dig his nails so hard into me that I would bleed.”
Dazai trailed off; he was still stuck in his head watching an old memory.
“Dazai, did you ever try to fight back? Mori is threatened by you right?” Kunikida asked before he could stop himself. Dazai grimaced in response.
Chuuya answered instead, “He did. Once. It ended with Dazai staring down the barrel of a gun and a scalpel to my throat. That night was the second worst time we had with him.”
“I’m still sorry about that,” Dazai mumbled, not looking at the redhead.
“You didn’t know he would go as far as he did,” Chuuya reassured.
Kunikida was filled with questions about what happened that night . All of which he knew better than to ask.
So he just started to ask another question to change the subject, “So tonight… what uh…”
“Our worst night with him started with a shattered wine bottle…” Dazai began explaining.
Chuuya cut in before Dazai could continue, “well it didn’t start with that.”
Chuuya started to stare into a memory like Dazai was earlier as he continued to talk, “It was one of the few times that Mori asked for me before Dazai. I tried to keep control. It was hard to fight my own desire to use my ability while Mori ra- …used me... Dazai walked into the room right as I threw Mori off of me. I didn’t mean to, I just acted without thinking.”
“I’ve never seen him so mad,” Dazai took over telling the story again. “If we hadn’t established our great reputation and were just average members of the mafia, I think Chuuya would be dead right now. I went to nullify Chuuya as soon as it registered what happened but Mori stopped me. That’s when the bottle was thrown at Chuuya. Just as Mori wanted, Chuuya didn’t use his ability to stop it. It shattered when it hit him, glass and wine went everywhere. Chuuya was lucky he was already on the floor, or that might have knocked him over.”
“I wasn’t really that lucky with what happened after that,” Chuuya jokes. His voice sounded distant but at least he was trying to keep it together. “He wasted no time to call Dazai over to nullify me after I was covered in glass. Once he knew I wouldn’t kick him off me again, he flipped me over and he…”
Chuuya took a deep breath. His voice had started shaking while he recounted his past “ He f-fucked me into the broken glass. It felt like it lasted forever and the pain never stopped.”
Dazai took over from there, “When Mori was done he made Chuuya clean up the remaining glass and wine from the floor but he could only use his hands for the glass and his clothes to sop up the wine.”
Kunikida felt sick to his stomach. Of course Chuuya would freak out at a simple spill after something like that. Kunikida leaned down to kiss the top of the ginger’s head. Chuuya was shaking again, his breath uneven, and he was back to clinging to Kunikida’s shirt like a small child.
“I’m so sorry,” Kunikida apologized. His voice was soft and gentle. Chuuya made a small noise in response, just enough to let the man know he heard him.
“After that he made me pull each piece of glass from Chuuya’s body with my bare hands,” Dazai continued, determined to give kunikida the whole story. “It took a very long time and Mori sat and watched the whole thing. He kept telling me how I was hurting Chuuya and that there could’ve been an easier way if we behaved better. The fucker made me blow him for a pair of tweezers in order to get the smaller pieces out of Chuuya’s skin.”
Dazai shook his head and let out a dry chuckle. The way Dazai crumbled immediately after shattered Kunikida's heart once again. The brunette curled into himself once more letting out broken sobs between his hyperventilating breaths.
Chuuya’s shaking body crawled out of Kunikida's arms and made his way to Dazai. He wrapped his arms around the other man.
“We’re not there anymore Dazai. I’m okay now. You did what you had to,” Chuuya whispered small comforts to his ex-partner.
“I’m sorry Chuuya… I’m so sorry,” Dazai kept repeating those words over and over as Chuuya held him.
Kunikida wasn’t sure what to do. He was frozen in place watching the two men behave in ways he never thought they’d let him see. They were both so broken and traumatized.
As he watched them, guilt was beginning to grow in the pit of Kunikida’s stomach as the realization of how they ended up talking about all this hit him. Kunikida’s thoughts started to spiral. ‘I would’ve waited until we were sober. I could’ve asked them more questions about hard limits. I should’ve paid more attention to body language. I-I-‘
“Doppo?” Chuuya’s soft voice pulled Kunikida out of his thoughts. “Are you okay?”
“I'm fine. I should be the one asking you that. You still have glass in your hands,” Kunikida redirected.
“You did nothing wrong, you know? No one knew this is how tonight would end up,” Chuuya pointed out. “Also you’re crying so it’s easy to tell you’re not okay.”
Kunikida didn’t realize he started crying. He reached up and touched his cheek. It was in fact wet. He was crying. “…I’m just… I’m so sorry. I didn’t know-“
“-How could you?” Dazai cut in, his breathing was still returning to normal but he stopped crying. “Also it was my idea for you to be in charge. Clearly I didn’t think this is how it would go.”
“I guess you’re right,” Kunikida reluctantly agreed, wiping his tears away.
“Now come here,” Chuuya invited him to cuddle.
“We should get the glass out of your hands first…” Kunikida said cautiously.
Chuuya looked down at his hands, glass shards stuck up out of the skin in various places. His hands had turned completely red from the dried blood and wine stains. Chuuya let out a big sigh, Kunikida knew it was mostly for dramatics.
“I guess you’re right. Can you get me a trash can then,” Chuuya asked.
Kunikida nodded and went to grab the trash can from the bathroom attached to the bedroom. Kunikida returned a moment later with the trash can and a pair of tweezers. In his absence the other two men had untangled and chuuya was sitting off to the side waiting.
“Do you need help?” Kunikida asked. He handed the trash can over to Chuuya and held up the tweezers.
“Not yet, watch this,” Chuuya’s hands began to glow red. With a quick flick of his hand almost all of the glass flew out and into the trash can. “I can get most of it out this way. There’s still a few small pieces stuck in there I’ll need help with…”
Chuuya held up his hands to kunikida, “Help me with the rest?”
“Of course,” Kunikida answered while he sat down next to the redhead on the bed. “Let me know if I hurt you.”
Chuuya nodded. The room fell quiet except for the occasional clink of glass into the trash can.
Chuuya broke the silence first, “Dazai, would you go grab a towel and broom for the hall closet? We still need to clean up the wine.”
“Why can’t you make Kunikida so it,” Dazai whined out.
“Well he’s a little busy. Unless you want to take over for him?” Chuuya snapped back at him.
“…fine.” Dazai begrudgingly accepted his task and ran off to grab the supplies.
While Dazai was off, Kunikida managed to pull all the glass from Chuuya’s hands.
“I think that does it…” Kunikida said.
“Thank you,” Chuuya’s voice was soft again. “Could you do my knees too? There’s not much.”
Kunikida nodded yes. Chuuya threw his legs over the blonde's lap. Dazai returned right as they settled in.
“Oh so you two are just gonna cuddle while I do all of the work!” Dazai complained from the doorway. A towel in one hand and a broom in the other, just like Chuuya asked for.
“Shut up mackerel! He’s pulling even more glass out of me!” Chuuya yelled back. “Now clean up my floor.”
“This wasn’t even my mess! I was on the bed!” Dazai continued to complain.
Kunikida cut in before Chuuya could tell again, “Dazai just clean it up. I’ll do your paperwork for the next week if you do it without any more complaining.”
“Hmmm… two weeks?” Dazai bargained.
“No. One week. You don’t even do your own paperwork half the time. You make Atsushi do it.” Kunikida pointed out.
“You both are against me.” Dazai flung his arms up in the most dramatic fashion he could manage to act hurt.
Chuuya threw a pillow at Dazai which the brunette doged with ease.
“Fine. I’ll take you up on your offer only if I also get to request blowjobs anytime I want during that week too,” Dazai said.
“Fine.” Chuuya and Kunikida said at the same time.
“Whatever will get you to clean,” Chuuya grumbled.
Dazai beamed with happiness at his successful bargaining. As promised he didn’t even complain while he quickly cleaned up the mess on the floor.
Dazai finished cleaning around the same time Kunikida finished pulling the glass out of Chuuya’s knees.
Chuuya got up off the bed. “I’ll need to go wash all this blood off. But after, how about a movie on the couch?”
The other two nodded in agreement. An hour later Dazai and Chuuya were fast asleep on the couch. Dazai fell asleep on Kunikida’s shoulder and Chuuya’s head was in his lap. Kunikida was ignoring whatever movie they decided on. His chest still ached from guilt but was soothed by watching the two men peacefully sleep.
