“You sure he’s not somehow ours?” Bludhaven asks again, setting him down once more to circle. Amity laughs, wild hair the color of wheat fluttering in a non-existent breeze and portal pulsing like a heart as she rests a hand on his head.

it was supposed to be a simple job: find the mark, take off her head as proof of the kill, bring it to these uppity inquisition people who'd rather eat chocobo shite than look me in the eye, leave with a sackful of gil. they had no clue she had a babe with her, and neither did I when I took this bounty. knowing this lot, they'd throw in an extra thousand if I got rid of the child. when the woman—an elezen named tauvane—discovered my intentions, she looked... how can I say it? she was more savage than human, with her claws and brute strength. she put up quite a fight: she had the strength of damn near twenty men. she nearly ripped my face off before she slammed me into a nearby boulder to make her escape. I took note of unnatural black growths trailing along her arms and legs, much like a dragon's scales. her hair was matted and filthy, and her eyes screamed distrust and panic, like a wild animal backed into a corner. she was by the river with the babe; I managed to catch up with her just before she plunged him in the rushing water. whether it was a cruel act of survival or sparing her child from the hands of her homeland, I cannot say. she was dealt with an unfortunate hand in life, that much I can tell. whatever crime or crimes she committed had the inquisition desperate enough to seek outside help. but I couldn't go along with the plan. I pitied her, I pitied the child clutched to her chest and swaddled in tattered rags, his mewling cries muted by the driving rain. instead, I let her escape... but she left achille in my care. she said he'd be better off with me, and that she'll return for him 'when the time is right.' and just like that, she dashed away into the trees with a speed I never witnessed before. I couldn't stand there and gawk, however. I needed to find shelter. as I write this, achille is sound asleep on my bed. I found temporary respite in this hunting village called tailfeather, and I leave on the morrow. apparently tauvane stayed around these parts, but the locals were unaware of her bounty when they allowed her a safe haven before she gave birth. rhalgr's cock, I never expected to become a father again, not after... what happened in ala mhigo. he's not a replacement for the son I lost. I have too much blood on my hands as it is. the families I killed for the sake of the king, they torment me. I cannot pass this fate onto him. he's too young to be separated from his mother, she made a mistake. besides that... he's very ill. I don't have the proper medicines to help him. he may not make it by next sennight. maybe I should have put the two out of their misery when I had the chance. I'm relieved that he'll pull through, but... I can't bear to hold him, much less look at him. he's not my son, I am but a stranger to him. just before I said my final goodbyes, when I took a glance at him, I found him staring back at me. his eyes were the same shade as his mother, a brilliant red hue that reminded me of blood. it matched his fuzzy crown of dark red hair. he was quiet for a long while before he broke out into a smile. he smiled at me, someone he doesn't know. I am not his mother. I couldn't leave him. I am not his father, I doubt he ever knew his father. but he chose me as his provider, his protector. when he's old enough I will take my leave of this place, I am sure that is what tauvane wished for me to do. as of now, he's a little menace, and I say that with affection. he's incredibly curious about my hair. he won't stop tugging at my beard and braids with his mighty grip. he's so small that I can carry him with one hand. but I know he will grow into a strong young man someday... he and tyro would've been like brothers, if tyro had lived. my poor tyro. he will not replace the one I lost. but nevertheless, I believe what was destroyed can be rebuilt. what was cut down can grow again.

#this is specifically about Travis and someone saying he can 'get away with all the murders he committed' #in the ending where he Laura and Ryan find and kill Silas and break the curse #that would mean that canonically Travis has committed NO murders. because he only ever crosses that line when Laura shoots him in chapter 7 #and you cannot break the curse by doing so because Laura and Travis have to work together in order to go after Silas #'going to do everything in his power not to get caught'- tell me you didn't absorb anything other than surface level detail from the game #without telling me. because i can very much tell you didn't get much of anything out of the experience #that man literally gives Laura the power to kill him before going after Silas. he is ready to atone then and there to her #he is repeatedly saying and showing that he hates the cover ups and lying and misery the curse and helping his family is causing #you can not like a character but for fuck's sake - making shit up to make you feel more self righteous about your hate is pathetic looking #and most of the information about Travis is hard fact - it is peppered throughout the game through his dialogue and notes/clues/evidence #vs. Silas who there is almost NOTHING set in stone about. you only know that he's the source of the curse and Eliza kept him caged #even Travis in the end can say he has doubts about whether he was actually Eliza's 'son' or if she didn't just take him and cage him #anyways...i know i'm biased but Travis is the most multi-faceted character in the game and he's the best <3

A lot of the WotR depended on military victories, tbh. We tend to get distracted by fancy discussions like "Who had the best claim?"* or Propaganda Roulette 101, but the fact remains that it was ultimately military victories that sealed the deal and got rid of opposition**. Everything else was pretty wrapping on top of the already-won or to-be-won prize.

*The most useless debate of all **The exception was Richard III's usurpation but that was a fairly unconventional and entirely unexpected usurpation, and in any case it was a military defeat that ended his reign.

there’s so many writing choices in this film that i could gripe about but i can’t deny the way the end scenes have me chewing dry wall. we’ve just spent the entire film seeing alex paint himself as the victim in all of this, a hapless bystander swept into the insanity of nigel’s world and having to pay the price for it. there’s little hints here and there that maybe there’s more to the story - e.g. nigel’s comment about alex and susan (to which alex offers immediate refutation) - but there’s never any real and clear indication. until the end. until we get that 9 month time skip and we see sally pulling up to the cemetery. until we learn that susan’s grave has been dug up and the skull stolen. and then the train scene my god, the reality sets in that alex has been playing them this entire time, that he’s become the very thing nigel always wanted him to be. the ending to this film is both the end of alex’s story and the beginning of jack’s.

#you guys brazil's history in the last 10 or so years have been so fucking insane #what started as a general discontentment over a rise in the public transport fare prices somehow turned into #an unprecedented reactionary extremist right-wing wave that only got worse and worse through the years #our first and only woman president suffered a literal coup and in the 2 years we were governed by the mild right #a politician who did nothing - and i do not say this lightly - literally NOTHING in like 20 years as a deputy gained so much popularity and #social media attention using nothing but hate speech fake news and the instrumentalization of the Christian faith and masses #somehow won over the public opinion - thru dishonesty n prejudice that's how - and was elected president. that's bols*naro #his mandate was marked by lies prejudice incompetence and negligence. thousands of ppl were literally dying in brazil everyday bc of covid #and u know what he did? mocked them. said he wasn't an undertaker so it wasn't his problem. mocked ppl's difficulty to breathe. caused a #animosity in the population against SCIENCE and health organizations. schemed to overprice when buying vaccines when companies were willing #to give them to us literally for free so the government could cash in. not to mention he dismantled federal operations against crime just #bc they were the left-wing govt's legacy he messed with the legitimacy of the federal police when it went after his sons he created a #scheme to divert public money into politician's pockets instead of employing the resources in u know. the public collective well-being #his govt created a law to protect said politicians and hide the money for 100 FUCKING YEARS from public records #the lost money already amounts to over 65 billion reais. that's roughly 12 billion dollars in taxpayers money. all lost #and he and his supporters have the NERVE to say he's an honest man. that he's a Christian. that he represents goodness. #when he did nothing but spew lies and prejudice and kill us and fuck us over the past 4 years. #his government is the definition of fear politics and necropolitics. it's a stain in the fabric of our country's history. it's never been #anything but a threat to our democracy. our senate n house of deputies r filled with bigoted extremist right-wingers now. but we have hope #now we can have hope! lula has been dishonest and corrupt in the past. he should pay for what he's done like almost every single high #ranking politician in this country should. but not like it was done! after they staged a coup against his ally they unjustly arrested and #convicted him SPECIFICALLY so he couldn't run for president. they KNEW our country would choose him. if he was free bols*naro would've #NEVER won. he's wrong and corrupt and now a convicted criminal turned free man but he represents our country and our democracy! #he's always been our only hope! he's not the right choice but the only choice. and that's how now we have - for the 1st time in history #- not only a president serving a historical THIRD mandate but a president who was arrested and freed between mandates #which is. fucking insane if u ask me #also blsnr is the first president ever in the history of brazil to not be able to be reelected lmfao fucking loser #what's also historical is our divide. lula won by 1.8% can u IMAGINE how split the public opinion is rn #but we won! and we're free of this vermin and on our way to rebuild our country. and i couldn't be happier or feel lighter #and not to mention they tried to stage another covert coup literally during the voting process today 😶‍🌫️ but anyways
