So I just finished my annual re-read of EII yesterday and am following it up with your epic and wonderful fic which is in many ways better than the book. But the main point of this message is that Alex is mildly obsessed with those Russian cat memes and constantly tests J's Russian comprehension by showing him really weird ones. This is partly in revenge for J refusing to let him name their cat Sammy Davis, Junior, Junior, Junior. (Alex calls her that anyway, of course.)

Headcanon instantly accepted, oh my freaking God.

I’m amazed at the type of reader that particular fic draws, by which I mean that there are at least four of you who have specifically told me over the years, always with great ceremony, that it’s an Annual Thing. You reread EII, and then you launch right into TSBL. This makes my melancholy heart happy.

25 (movie I think I shouldn’t have seen for whatever reason) - ohmg I went to this b+w film with a live quartet for the soundtrack and it was the longest most boring film I’ve ever experienced…. I think it was called The Wedding March. I couldn’t even fall asleep

24 (movies I think I probably should’ve seen but haven’t for whatever reason) - I do way more tv than film because I psych myself out of sitting down and actually watching…. I really wanna get over it and see True Stories, Kafka, and California Split tho!!

Pick a book you own but haven’t read yet: Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, which I have owned for seven years without reading it lmao (the longest out of any of my books, and I own over 100 unread books btw yikes) 2. How did you come by it? Given by a friend? Bought from a recommendation? Compelled by the cover? I watched the film in 2010 and loved it so I bought the book. The cover is super cool as well.
 3. Quote the first sentence(s): My legal name is Alexander Perchov. But all of my many friends dub me Alex, because that is a more flaccid-to-utter version of my legal name. Mother dubs me Alexi-stop-spleening-me!, because I am always spleening her. 4. Realistically, will you ever read it? Yes! Eventually! Safran Foer wrote one of my fave books of all time, Eating Animals, so I do want to read more of his. Though I did try Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, but I didn't particularly like it.. he has kind of a weird way of writing. I'd actually kinda forgotten about this book so thanks for tagging me cause I might read it next month?? I just wanted to say that your Everything Is Illuminated fic is still one of the best fics I've read. It's a perfect continuation to the ending of the book and their relationship. Thank you!

Anon, every time somebody reads and comments in some fashion on The Space Between Love and the End of the World, there’s this spot in my chest that just…I don’t know, just ignites.  So many aspects of that novel irritated me on first reading (fictional!Jonathan’s-pretentious-novel-excerpt parts), but more sections of that novel sucked all the air from my lungs and kept me up reading through two successive nights (Alex, Alex, Alex).  That cut-off-mid-sentence, no-full-stop ending made me throw the book on the floor at five in the morning; I remember creeping to bed in tears.  I also remember getting up twenty minutes later, reading the last three pages again, and starting to write.  I’ll never be able to thank @watercolourstains enough.  She’s the one who put the book in my hands and said, Hey!  My heart’s broken for these boys, and your heart will break, too.  There’s work for you to do here.  And, invariably over the years, when she says that to me?  She is always, always right.
