I'm hosting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed fest at Allbingo on Dreamwidth for the month of April!

How it works: Get a card (either a pre-made one or generate your own using the provided prompt lists, any size from 2x2 up to 7x7), and complete a bingo in some way (row, column, custom shape, blackout, whatever your preference) by making fills. Fills can be fic, art, crafts, music, whatever you'd like. And whatever fandom you'd like - you don't have to stick to ninja turtles if that's not your cup of tea! There are cards and prompt lists both with and without TMNT-specific characters and settings available.

My card is below, and I'm going to be writing short TMNT fics and scenes in various canons as fills, using them as writing warmups before working on my longer AO3 fics. Fills will probably be some 2k3, some Rise, some Hold Every Memory AU, some Batman Vs. All of the fills will be posted on my Dreamwidth under the prompt bingo fill tag, but if there are a few I'm really happy with, I'll post them on Tumblr as well. If any get long enough, I'll run them through editing process and put them up on my AO3.

If this sounds like fun but you'd rather not participate on Dreamwidth, no worries! It would be awesome to see completed cards posted there, or even just leaving an anonymous comment on the wrapup post at the end of the month to celebrate your achievements, but do whatever works best for you.

'Bite' - Rob and Rhosyn Nyren, Summerchild-era

So as a break from working on Summerchild itself, I figured I'd party like it was 2005 and snagged a bingo card from allbingo to do little side-pieces focussed on other characters in the same time frame.

But because it is not 2005 and my ADHD has definitely become more a problem since then, I wasn't going to admit to it until I'd at least written something which is why it's a card from like, last month.

445 words. Warnings for: physical injury (in the context of care), the lingering shadow of horrible childhood trauma, Rob does not look a lot like Lancelot today

Scrawl exhausted and in pain is even more stubborn than normal; refuses to be helped, to be touched, to even show anyone his burned hand. Snarls that there's nothing they can do about it, takes himself off to the little chamber Rosie keeps reserved for him for precisely this reason - and if mercy has any grace at all - sleeps. 

Bobby - Rob - would like to do the same. Gets as far as saying, "just let me go sleep it off, Rosie, don't worry about me -"

"At least try and act like you're someone who believes he deserves to be cared for, for my sake," his sister snaps, which is nothing she's said to him in an age, and perhaps indicative of how much of a setback she thinks he's taken -

- which is nonsense, but he is late of Greymere and neither the wild run through the frozen marsh nor a cold night in the Hol is anything worth fussing over. Bobby Nyren knows what he is.

But he loves his little sister, dear sharp-tongued Rosie, so for her sake he doesn't argue. Peels himself out of clothes filthy with marsh-mire and the blood that made a king; makes use of a wash-cloth and warm water; lets her rinse and untangle his hair with a wide-tooth comb - and at length sits by the fire in a clean tunic, sipping hot cider, while she plaisters and bandages his various scrapes and scratches, and he recounts the news he's sure she's heard already.

And in due course, finds the long splinter he suspected had broken off in his calf. Tuts over it, fetching more candles, tweezers, a knife he's sure is very sharp, and a scrap of offcut sole-leather. Which is entirely unnecessary fuss.

"Bite," she says firmly, holding it out.

"Merc'grace, Rosie, I've held still for a lot worse than a bloody splinter," he growls, which maybe isn't something he'd have said to her if he were less tired right now. Vicky's right, it makes him talkative.

Rosie's having none of it. "Bite."

The process of having a two-inch shard of splintered bone dug out of his leg is exactly as unpleasant as he's expecting it to be. Rosie talks constantly, narrating what she's doing in a gentle voice. It's entirely unnecessary, but it's… soothing. Brings him back, in time, to remembering to be something like human, for her, something more than Greymere's hollow puppet. 

She doesn't hide the relief when he asks for coffee instead of cider, but she does shake her head, and give his shoulder an affectionate shove. "Go sleep. You can have all the coffee you want tomorrow."
