As an avid lover of his Dark Materials I have yet to see a BG3 daemons concept and that is a Crime. So here are some Thoughts below the cut :)

(Also something something about the representation of religion in HDM and how it correlates to BG3's depictions of faith and trauma. I have the Idea but I am too tired to do much with it; may return to the thought later.)

Shadowheart- a borzoi. Elegant, spooky looking, dramatic. Borzoi don't make much vocal noise but are very playful- instincts surpressed by Sharrens that thrive with the party (see that very cute night orchid scene specifically). Generally very sweet, loyal animals, like SH when you get to know her. Plus they look amazing.

(Act 3 spoilers- I also appreciate that she'll match it when she dyes her hair. Seems suitable dramatic for her.) Anyways, I also really like borzois and think it's be funny af to see in them trotting around in game like the weird willow tree ghost things they are.

Lae'zel- Githyanki don't have daemons; she finds them baffling. Very impractical to carry one's soul on the exterior, although perhaps an efficient companion in combat to have someone you share instincts with. After much discussion by the others she decides for them if she did have one it would be a red dragon. Nobody argues with that.

(She does decide she'd have to prove herself worthy of such a beast first, and if she trusts Tav admits that maybe she'd like if Vlaakith could give her a daemon bond with her future dragon. Would she get a dragon if she became Vlaakith's chosen? Idk, she would now.)

Karlach- Tieflings also don't have daemons. She wants one wholeheartedly. The party finds her a magic ring that allows her to summon a familiar- she gets a direwolf puppy as enthusiastic and adoring as she is :)

Said ring is obtained somewhere in the Shadowlands after she gets the cooldown upgrade so she can hug it as soon as she has it. Also it grows up absolutely massive. Its paws are the size of its head when it's a puppy. All the better for cuddling with!

Gale- Tara. Wizards, sorcerers, etc, tend to have magical creatures as familiars. This AU he had Tara since the beginning. He still summoned all the other weird shit he did as a kid, just with Tara's help. She is his voice of reason and holder of the braincells; he gets to keep one and it's all about Mystra. She's protecting the rest from its corruption. He gets them back when the party convinces him to tell Mystra to go fuck herself.

(I do chew upon the trans Gale headcanon sometimes. If anyone wishes to muse with me on how daemons, which are typically of the opposite sex to their human, would be incorporated into that, please do.) Edit- pls see comments for very illuminating interpretations of daemons and gender!! Very cool stuff!

Wyll- lanner falcon. Medium sized yet formidable bird of prey, the head of which was often depicted on Egyptian gods like Ra and Horus. Beautiful, noble and nimble creatures (good for a dexterity based build, which I focused on for him alongside charisma).

Mizora's pact significantly lengthened their tether; her devil-form punishment broke it and weakened their bond significantly, much to their distress- they hate to be out of vision of one another as a result. Halsin, Jaheira and especially my Tav Cerewyn helped him adapt to and understand the new tether.

Druids and their daemons are based on the His Dark Materials witches, who have significantly lengthened bonds. Druid bonds are just as strong in markedly different ways; each is more independent and their personalities more distinct. I will definitley expand more on this; I adore Wyll and really want to do his character justice. He's the knight in shining armour but he also made a deal with a devil to be said knight, so, y'know. His daemon should really reflect that complexity.

Astarion- luna moth (changed when he turned- he can't remember what she was before.)

Beautiful in a fragile, showy way. Short-lived. Desperate for the light. A silkmoth; silk for embroidery. He resents her for being such a reflection of the self he tries so desperately to hide yet is fiercely protective of her, so beautiful and soft and hopeful- moths exist to seek light, craving it like he longed for a knight in shining armour, like he yearns for the sun.

Cazador liked to pin her wings.

(I love my sad wet cat very much and so as payback for hurting my soul he is subjected to the tragedy that is my attempting to be poetic :) )

Halsin- bear. Druid daemons reflect their favoured Wild shapes. Strong, steady, reliable, protective. Optimal shape for snuggles, very nice and warm, overall :) vibes to look at and be around. (Bear is not present for That Scene. That Scene and daemons are not up for discussion, you degenerates. Thank you <3)

Jaheira- Eurasian lynx. Struggled a bit on this one- didn't think any of the wild shapes suited her as a daemon- so looked up the national animal of Romania (supposedly Jaheira's accent?) for potential inspiration. Got the lynx, which seems perfect. Medium sized, elegant, very dignifed and deadly hunters who inhabit forests. Notably very quiet and hard to track. Endangered, which resonated with me because of Jaheira's status as one of the last of the Old Guard, so to speak. Nocturnal, which I like because we meet Jaheira in the shadow-cursed lands. Ambush predator, which just goes with my Gloom Stalker build for her. Overall seems perfect for the legendary druid.

Minsc- Boo? Fuck knows man, Minsc gonna Minsc. I spent way too long thinking about Jaheira and now I don't have the energy left. If Gale can have Tara, Minsc can have Boo. I do love Minsc so I will be back to expand on him if the mood strikes me but also I think maybe I don't need to? Daemon Boo just seems Right. Will consult Minsc's backstory and update later if necessary.

Minthara- yet to recruit her so uncertain. Displacer beast seems apt, maybe? Something felinoid would really fit her tbh. Elegant and lethal, very aloof but loyal once you've got her. Input would be appreciated.

My Tav, Cerewyn, just in case ya'll are interested- a raven named Gwyn, short for something I haven't figured out how to spell yet.

Clever, calculating, very blunt and sarcastic to balance out Cere's generally stoic, quite, calm demeanour. Sharp eyed bird for a sharpshooter ranger's daemon. Cere is a beast master ranger/ druid of land multiclass; ravens are summonable both for wild companions and familiars and are a wild shape (Cere's preferred wild shape too).

A common species but not to be underestimated and generally unpredictable, which suits her. She romances Astarion and both she and the raven think he and his luna moth are the prettiest things they've ever seen. They're also very patient and perceptive of trauma due to (Extensive Backstory), so they're more than happy to take their time with earning his trust. Astarion is very appreciative of all the shiny things the raven likes to bring him, and also that it clawed one of Cazador's eyes out for daring to speak to Astarion like That.

CONC.; symbolism is fun and also painful :)

Daemon names are a work in progress; the muses gave me this then said lol nope and fucked off before I could ask them for appropriate names. Might post them with some sketches of the party and daemons together?

(I wrote this in Notes app at an ungodly hour with fuck all editing. It is incoherent, but if anything is genuinely incomprehensible, please tell me so I may at least try to fix it. Much love <3 if you made it this far you get to know I welcome suggestions for NPCs to give daemons next!)

Howdy! I've been following your work since 2014ish and you never cease to amaze me with your artwork! I was first introduced to your work with Machete and the stuff labeled 'Sighthound', but ahh stupid question, I actually never learned what Sighthound actually is. I sometimes see snippets or lore but never knew what the general premise of the worldbuilding or the cool setting for the illustrations. Could you explain it please? Sorry for the long ask, I hope you're well and wish you a good day!

So a sighthound is just a commonly used name for a type of dog that hunts by using it's sight instead of smell, it’s not something I invented. Sighthound breeds are some of the oldest dog breeds around, some have stayed relatively unchanged for thousands of years, and they all have somewhat similar builds; they're very leggy and thin (not underweight, just built that way), and they have long and narrow heads. They're famous for being very fast runners (again, they chase their prey using their great eyesight, kind of like cheetahs) and were historically used to hunt rabbits and gazelles. Some of the most common breeds include:

Greyhound

Saluki

Borzoi, aka Russian wolfhound

Afghan hound

and Scottish deerhound

but there's also a lot of very rare breeds around, like Azawakh

and some that are fully unrecognized in the west, like the Chinese Shannxi Xigou

I draw a lot of sighthounds, I just think they're neat. They have this elegance and gracefulness to them that makes them seem almost un-doglike, but they also have this ancient, primal aura that a lot of more modern breeds might lack, imho. Their flexible, muscular bodies create a lot of eyecatching silhouettes that make them very fun and interesting to draw, and there's a variety of fur types that you can create many different kinds of visual flourishes and textures out of.

I'm not an expert so I'm not the best person to explain any of this, but I hope that helped!

Hi there, I have always loved scrolling your blog, but I just noticed that Mr Mung is growing VERY large!! He’s got such a broad chest, and he’s just SO so handsome, but he looks like a tank for a silken, compared to your other ones and even the photos of him with his mother, especially at his age! You don’t have to answer, of course, but I’m wondering if he was maybe part of an outcrossing project, back to borzoi? Or is he just an outlier/a really big silken? I ask mostly because I prefer bigger silkens 😄 The little ones are cute and sweet, and size isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but my girl just turned 6 and so I’m starting my (likely very lengthy) search for Next Puppy. My girl is 33lbs and I think was the biggest girl in her litter, and ideally I’d get another her size or even a bit larger. Her breeder is amazing but really favors silkens on the smaller end of the scale.

I always wanted a borzoi (which is how I found your awesome blog), I’m just not equipped for a dog quite that large, so silkens have become my breed. I’m so enamored with your bean boy (and his sisters are also super gorgeous)!! If you’d be willing to share any info about his pedigree or his breeder I would be super grateful, but I know that this sort of ask from a total stranger on the internet can be a bit fraught, so I won’t be offended or anything if you decline to answer. I appreciate all the adorable photos you’ve shared of all your crew over the years! Thanks for your time 😊

First of all, Thank You! You are very kind.

Also, some of the Bean Boy's broad chest is floof... he has a LOT of it! (He does have a very nice front though). He is bigger but not necessarily an outlier... Larger Silkens are becoming more and more common, which is not necessarily a good thing but which should make your quest easier. If you like Borzoi then you probably know that a mature male stands at least 28 inches at the shoulder and weighs 75 to 105 pounds (and that females will be smaller.)

At least 28 inches. Most are 31 or 32. But think about that. The accepted measurements for Silken Windhounds (according to ISWS) are 18.5 -23.5 inches (47-60 cm) at the withers. If you follow the written standards for the breeds that means that (using males as an example) there are only 4.5 inches separating a small Borzoi from a large Silken. The larger a Silken gets, the closer it gets to infringing on Borzoi height. And there are a LOT of Silkens out there that are taller than the standard. (We are only discussing size here, not other conformation considerations.) Americans seem to like things large, so we end up with Borzoi like our Jeep (36 inches at the shoulder) and Silkens that do not fit the written standard. My Silken, the Imp, is within the standard for males and yet I hear a lot about how small he is. (Small only in others eyes, NOT in his own.) The Brother is on the large side of the standard, but no one ever said anything about the possibility of his being too big! I have never made a secret of my dogs sizes or breeding (the Brother is a whopping 50 lbs, the Imp is 30, and the Bean Boy is 43 as of this writing) so here you go:

The Bean Boy and his sisters are from a breeding done by Bijou Silkens (dam) and Satsuma Kennels (sire). Bijou is in Oregon and Satsuma is in Washington State. USA. The Bean Boy is on the large side (like his dad!), his sisters are smaller and weigh about 15 pounds less. They all have nice confirmation and great personalities. The breeders are wonderful and easy to talk to, you can contact them on line. Bijou is a smaller breeder as in does not produce many litters, so depending on your time frame you might try Satsuma first. Remember that if a breeder does not have what you are looking for they probably know someone who does. (And don't get me started on good breeders vs producers!) :D

have you considered the inherent vulnerability of standing next to someone who could happily kill you in a hundred different ways and trusting that they won't. of always being on guard for a knife in your back but knowing that there is exactly One Person who stands behind you who'd never raise that blade.

because my friends. that is Gin and Vodka.

ok these is in no particular order buuut here are some HCs that i work from as a baseline for rotating them both in my head:

Both of them are in their early 40s, and joined the Black Organization at about the same time. Gin joined from the criminal side of things, while Vodka joined as a legit office worker. They started working together a few years in.

They are SO GOOD at non-verbal communication. They've completely changed mission plans on-the-spot multiple times, all with a couple of glances and nods.

Vodka fell for Gin YEARS before the events of canon but there is no world in which he makes the first move. Initially his silence was because "i would rather not risk pissing off my Murder-Boss who would maybe react by Murdering Me" but he's stayed silent because. Well. He's honestly happy with their relationship as-is. He can see how much Gin trusts him, values that immensely, and reciprocates it. They live together, for god's sake. It's not a romantic thing, sure, and sometimes Vodka wishes it was, but he cherishes what they have more than anything. ...meanwhile Gin is demi-romantic and very autistic and straight-up does not realize that he's in love with Vodka. he'll figure it out. eventually.

If you want to compare them to dogs (and i very much DO), then Gin is a Borzoi (sighthound) and Vodka is a Clumber Spaniel (flushing dog). Vodka scares targets into running and Gin chases them down.

Vodka runs hot and Gin runs cold. They achieve thermal equilibrium when they cuddle!! But it usually means the car's temperature is set way too hot for Vodka.

Gin is well aware that he's a vicious person in every aspect of his life, but he's waaaay past the point where he tries to hide it. Vodka likes his viciousness. Gin likes that Vodka likes his viciousness. They're both freaks and should be together to keep them from mauling the public.

I like to think that their canon height difference is an artifact of the show being Detective Conan — it's part of Conan's view of the world. Gin’s the one who attacked him as Shinichi, the one who keeps coming the closest to finding Conan out, the one who's more cruel and ruthless. Vodka ticks all those boxes too, yeah, but Gin is the one who Conan's actually scared of. So, from Conan's perspective, we see Gin as super frigging tall. He looms over everything, he's untouchable — while Vodka’s just Some Guy who looks pathetic and kinda meek when standing next to Gin. In reality — AKA, according to how i draw them — Gin and Vodka are the same height. Taller than Vodka’s canon height, but shorter than Gin’s. (Technically Gin is, like, an inch or two shorter, but it's such an insignificant difference that their hats and shoes make them the same.)

An outside observer would think that Gin takes everything Vodka offers and gives nothing in return, but that's not true. It's just that he shows affection like a large cat: with mauled corpses and by invading Vodka's personal space. He also does stuff like 'lets Vodka drive his very expensive and hard-to-get car' and 'respects Vodka's take on situations' and 'keeps falling asleep on Vodka' and—

They spar. Sometimes, those spars are all-out. During those spars, Gin tends to bite. A lot! There's blood. Vodka is okay with being his chew-toy. A little too okay with it. You could go so far as to say he's eager. In Gin's defense, if you're fighting for your life you have got to take any opening you can. There is no defense for Vodka.

Theoretically, if Kaitou KID were to disguise as Gin, then Vodka "My Main Love Language Is Learning Other's Mannerisms" BlackOrg would clock him in minutes. He wouldn't say anything immediately, but he spends too much time working with Gin to fall for that shit. If Kaitou KID were to disguise as Vodka, then Gin "My Main Love Language Is Letting My Guard Down" BlackOrg wouldn't realize something was up unless KID stood directly next to him — at which point Gin would switch to his second Love Language, Murder.

The first song Vodka ever sang to Gin was Hallelujah. Someday, it will be the last song he ever sings to Gin.

The first time they met was technically way back when Vodka was working for one of the B.Org's fronts and not in on the illegal stuff yet. His immediate superior, Syrah, was killed by Gin — who was going by a different codename at the time, Kina Lillet. Vodka was bringing paperwork to Syrah's office but heard the tail end of some yelling and the sounds of a struggle. When Kina walked out looking Suspiciously Casual wearing all black and generally looking Scary As Shit he decided that he was not getting payed enough to die for that company. Kina asked "how much did you hear" and Vodka replied "i mind my damn business, sir, so frankly i didn't hear shit" and went on his way to figure out an alibi. (They met formally a couple years later, as Gin and Vodka. Gin recognized Vodka but Vodka didn't recognize Gin.)

Determining Star Lords with Astrology (Part 1)

Since we haven’t seen Doll in a while and mostly follow Snake and Finny at the time, I wanted to go back to the star blood types and deepen the link between them and the four settings again in the mean time.

This post will focus on the properties of the stars, their myths and how these myths relate to certain characters with special focus on Doll regarding the current mini-arc.

Vega***

To establish further theories, let’s first make “Layla is the Vega Lord” concrete. Vega belongs to the “Lyra” constellation, which symbolizes a musical instrument in Greek Mythology. While the first thing that caught my attention was the similarity between the spelling of Layla and Lyra, I don’t want to jump to any conclusions between them because there is a possibility that the original Japanese is different in a way? If someone knows more about this I would like to hear about it.

The meaning of the name “Layla” has connotations regarding “night” so this can also be seen as a simple proof.

If we look at mythologies of other civilizations, the story of Vega that comes from Chinese mythology is quite interesting. The legend of Vega in mythology is paired up with the star Altair. The love story between Zhinü and Niulang, Vega and Altair respectively, fits into the narrative of the Veteran House Mini-Arc in Kuro. If we think of Zhinü as Layla because she is presumed to be the lord of Vega, then the person she talks to Al (double personality or another twin scenario) could be Niulang.

Additionally, Niulang is a farm boy (“Cowherd” as it is said in Wikipedia), it relates to Bard’s backstory and brings together the Veteran Mini-Arc in its entirety. The tragic love story of Vega and Altair could be applied to what happened to Bard’s family.

Sirius*

This is probably the most well-known star in the Fandom at this point so I realize anything I’m writing could have already been written by another blogger. If so, credits to that person but I hope you will see how mentioning all this relates to the narrative of this post as well. :D

Sirius is a part of the constellation Canis Major. Another dog is the unending list of Kuro between Borzois, Pomerians and Mastiffs. Canis Major represent the bigger of the two hunting dogs (other is Canis Minor) of Orion. Sirius is known as the “Dog Star” by itself as well.

There are many stories about Sirius and Cani Major among various legends, these do not directly correlate with the story at the moment.

Before going into the star lords, I wanted to say that it’s amazing how the “Queen’s Watchdog” title is so closely related to this. I love this series because of small connections like these.

Sirius is the rarest blood type and currently we know only a few characters that were confirmed to have it.

Before the twin reveal (and during the twin reveal), I would probably argue that Lord Sirius is a Phantomhive twin now. And we do know that it used to be RC. I know that RC said it is OC at the moment but what they define as a lord changes from Star to star. Is it that they are above all else with an internal food chain, or are they just additional supplements or supporters for Sirius with no distinction from all the other donors except their title when it comes to the survival of the Phantomhives.

I would like to look deeper into what RC said, but remember that he is a semi-walking corpse with the mentality of a 10-year-old child.

The title seemed very glorious and powerful before the 130-140 flashbackthe but if newer characters like Layla and Lord Polaris have their own bedrooms in the opera hall, I’m doubting that Undertaker would hold a Phantomhive -potentially knew before the story began- to the same degree as 3 other hidden characters at this point of the story. All the other lords all doing their jobs while Sirius is supposedly leading them and so he (she?) is off limits.

But I’m also skeptical that a character who died as an adult would be put into the lords category as the Lords are most likely close in age (pre-death age) because many of the Major groupings around the star and blood systems in Kuro include characters of the same generation. Like the prefects, idol prefects and the dog classes in the orphanage.

I understand that OC being Lord Sirius would lead to some amazing reveals, but I hope there is still another key character that is yet to be revealed.

Hello, nonnie! I see your asks have made the rounds. Really nice to see lots of rec lists circulating!

I had to give this a thought. It's very hard to come up with just 10. I could easily do a part II. 😂 But without further ado, and in no particular order, 10 of my favorite KC fics:

. The Parisian Deal by Borzoi

I honestly vary between The Parisian Deal and Paradise Lost as my favorite Borzoi fics. It depends. I think I'm in my Parisian Deal era, though. I've recced this a few times over the last few months, whenever someone's asked me for my favorites or humanity-less Caroline fics. For me, this is the best one that comes to mind. Borzoi's fics are all brilliant. I love their writing style to bits. It reads like a novel, it draws in and it grips you by the throat until the very end. This one features Klaus being called to the rescue by a desperate Salvatore clan when Caroline turns off her humanity and fucks off to Europe. Unlike her friends, Klaus doesn't threaten her, doesn't try to force her to feel; instead, he offers her a deal. And it's perfect. I love this story with my whole heart, I can't even tell you.

. In the Backseat by Lila2

After leaving Hayley as a wolf in the Bayou and earning the hatred of his entire family, Klaus shows up with baby Hope on Caroline's doorstop. He has no idea what to do with a baby, is too proud to apologize and is in desperate search of some validation, which invariably leads her back to her (just like in 5x11). Caroline is torn between being mad at him for having a baby with freaking Hayley, and also the fact that she loves kids and there's a part of her that resents him precisely because he gets to have them, when she never will. In her own way, Caroline puts him in his place and convinces him to make amends and go home, take Hope back to her mother - but only if she comes with him on the road trip. And boy, is it worth it. 🥰 It's a fic that has the baby as a catalyst for everything, at the center of everyone's woes in different ways, but it's not about the baby, in case you're a baby fic hater. And the writing is just chef's kiss.

. the birth and death of the day by @little-miss-sunny-daisy

For a good while there, this fic was my entire fandom personality. Whenever anyone gave me a second of their time, I'd preach about the birth and death of the day. I was obsessed. Kelly is a brilliant writer, so, so, so talented. I am not kidding when I saw I wish I could write like her. And the greatest proof of that is how this fic was everything to me, in spite of not being at all my cup of tea on the tin. I don't like Supernatural, I never watched more than two episodes, and the Klaroline bit here kind of takes on a secondary role to the end of the of the world. But it's such an intense and brilliant character study on Caroline that it had my whole heart from the start. Her relationship with her BROTHERS Dean and Sam is so heartfelt, and it exposes so much of who Caroline really is as a character. The plot is INSANE and AMAZING and HUGE and it's so incredible how it ties in so seamlessly with the Mystic Falls shenanigans. And then there is Klaus! When I saw secondary, I don't mean irrelevant. I just mean there's more to the story than just their relationship. But it is still brilliantly developed. Honestly, just writing about it brings me back memories. I love it so much.

. Quiet Light by @definedareasofuncertainty

I am biased when it comes to Luiza's fics because I'm a fangirl and I have been one since day one, before we even became friends. But in the years (years 🥲 we have been here so long, friend) we have known each other, her writing has only gotten better and better. It's atmospheric and understated and it has this mindfulness about it that I can't really explain. It really feels like being in the characters' stream of thinking, you get instantly pulled into it. It evokes emotions without it ever having to be minutely described, and I think that's such an incredible talent. I wish I could write like this! And Quite Light not only brings all of those things forward, but it also brings COMPLEXITIES and MORAL QUARRELLS and it was also WRITTEN FOR ME. 😌✨ Luiza thought she was getting revenge on me by torturing Elijah, but LITTLE DID SHE KNOW I actually loved it. I went into this thinking it would be just a rom-com style story (which I love), but it's so much more. By the end I was crying real tears. 🥲 It becomes such a beautiful story about the relationship between Klaus and Elijah. Honestly brilliant.

Honestly, this fic has a very specific target audience, and that target audience is ME. I'm not even exaggerating; this is one my favorite pieces of fic ever written in the KC fandom. The way a Klarolijah fic speaks to me can be so personal. 🥺 I love the Klarolijah dynamic. I really do. But it takes a very specific balance for me to feel it. It can very easily go from me loving it, to me wanting to throttle someone. And this! THIS!! This is absolutely it. 🥲 And it's just about my favorite thing ever. This is actually three mini drabbles combined into one. Each of them is written through a different POV - Klaus', Elijah's and Caroline's. And the combination of all three, the way they tell the same story through different eyes, is just !!!!!!!!! Honestly, I don't have words. This has ✨Yokan my beloved✨ written all over it and I feel it very much. Luiza has a ridiculous talent for writing things on the spot. She got prompted to write an Elijah piece, and then a Caroline piece, and then a Klaus one, and she wrote them all in like 30 minutes on one of her mini drabbles challenge, and OH MY FUCKING GOD. I hate her for how good she is. 😭 (I don't, I love her, but I also v much envy her talent).

I spent a solid few minutes here thinking about which of Hannah's fics I wanted to list, because she has this huge catalogue and I've basically read all of them and have gushed over almost every single one over the years. But even though there are others that could easily be in my top 10, I always end of going back to This is a Harvest. I remember when I first read it, I closed the tab at the end and was just… Done. Not in a 'I can't stand this story/ship/fandom anymore', but in a 'this is the fic to end all fics' kind of way. And it's not so much about the style or the writing, which are both stunning, but the way the story is told. It's a canon divergence that spans over years and I felt it in my heart that this was where the story could've gone. The choices they could've made. The way Caroline's story could and should have ended. And I was satisfied. I started writing and reading KC fanfiction after TO was over because I was so indignant about the way the show ended, so unhappy that I needed to give it my own spin, and read other folks doing the same, and when I read this story I felt like I had achieved that. This is it, I can put this to rest.

Obviously, I was way too deep by then that I couldn't really abandon the fandom (even though, just between us here, I kind of wish I could), but for a whole week or two, I was at peace. This fic gave me peace. That's it.

"But Yokan, how would you like to see Klaus' part in Legacies play out?" Like this. Exactly like this. This story accepts the finale we were dealt in The Originals, and then makes something absolutely amazing with it. I love the premise, I love the mythology involved, I love how unique this take is, and I love how even though it's poignant and bittersweet, it still packs up everything about Kc that made me love this ship so much. Caroline has been in Europe for years trying to find a way to help her daughters with their Gemini situation, and then she ends up stumbling across something else entirely. While she thought the thing she most wanted to see on a brief stint on the Other Side would be Gemini witches, her heart betrays her by taking her to who she really misses the most.

This story is so old school it was written before Steroline. It's about Tyler. But we all know who Caroline ends up marrying, so in my heart, this is really what happens before Caroline marries Stefan. And honestly, it works just as well. This story is a punch to your stomach, but it is PERFECTION in 8k words. It's hot, it's bittersweet, it's SO in character. Caroline's denial, telling herself that Klaus is there to see her because he still ones revenge on Tyler, when it becomes very obvious, very fast, as it always does on the show, that it's never about Tyler, it's all about her. UGH. Honestly, brilliant. (third fic on this list with a The National reference on the title, I SENSE A PATTERN).

I had never in my life read a genie!AU, and simply could not wrap my mind around anything of the sort that wouldn't be extreme crack!fic. Imagine my surprise upon reading this story. It's bittersweet in the best possible way. At the same time it's endearing and adorable (and so very IC) to watch Caroline fumbling for a fair and non-insane way to handle Klaus, the genie Katherine accidentally gifted her with (and who just happens to look incredibly alluring), it's so very poignant to read Klaus' POV. He's Klaus in the way that he's suspicious and dismissive and kind of snobbish, really, but he's resigned to his fate. This is a Klaus who has been broken by years of enslavement as this prop who's there exclusively to serve others. Every time he mentions one of his past masters, you just get that stab - and so does Caroline. Laine is one of the most prolific and talented KC writers ever, and I have read and enjoyed so, so many of her fics, but this definitely has a special place in my heart.

This is an ensemble story that has Klaroline at heart, but that gives every other character a moment to shine. And shine they do! Everyone gets their own side stories, and absolutely loved following every single one of them. Lottie made me care for characters I hate in canon, like Katherine and Kol. Even Stefan and Elena had my heart here. This fic is a journey, full of ups and downs, and it has such a satisfying end. It's also incredibly original in its setting and tone, which I think it's one of Lottie's greatest talents. It's very are for historical fics to be set in the 60s, and not only did Lottie choose this very particular time, but she also did such a remarkable job incorporating the decades' aspects into the story. Not just the fashion, and the music, and Woodstocky vibes, but the social and political unrest as well. This is a story with LAYERS, my friends, and it's incredible. I could totally see this being a TV show or a movie tbh. It's that good.

Kanai is actually ambidextrous! The differences between his handwriting with his left and his right hands are almost indistinguishable ‪ଘ( ੭⁰̷̴͈ ᵕ ˘͈)੭* ✩

Even with how lanky and l o n g he is, he’s very agile and coordinated with amazing eyesight. He’s a Borzoi hellhound, and Borzoi’s are a breed of Russian wolfhounds that rely on their speed and agility as well as their sight (also known as Sight Hounds; like a Greyhound or Whippet) to hunt!

Got bored and didn't know what to post for a seriously long time- so I decided I would share some interesting stuff. My favorite animals!!! RAHHH okay I seriously love dogs. I can't imagine someone who doesn't. (Part 1 I guess)

Dog breeds??? THERE ARE SO MANY !!! I'm gonna infodump the hell out of you

I have the tendency to love dogs that look unusual, you know- skinny dogs, big dogs, dogs that make you think "damn why he built like that." Same with cats. Animals are amazing and tbh how in God's name could anyone choose just ONE favorite?

This is an appreciation post for bull terriers, first of all. That big football-shaped head of theirs is PERFECT for kisses. Those little triangular shaped eyes (Uniquely extravagant to their breed) are ridiculously tiny. The pinkness that shades his eyes and nose is absolutely unmatchable. There was surely some comedy and thoughtfulness when this dog was made! Sweet! (I have a favorite type too, the pure white ones.) I can't believe there was a time where dogs like this were expected to tear your lungs out if you came too close to someone's property.

Here you can see this bull terrier's adorable smile!!! Ready to eat your sofa cushions and 2 entire layers of bathroom drywall, but lovingly. (Your lawn decorations too)

I also appreciate BORZOIS AND GREYHOUNDS!!! Greyhounds have these goofy, long limbs and ridiculously tall, skinny bodies. They seem like the type of dog to run around making weird noises at nothing. That's a lot like me! Borzois look just like greyhounds, but bigger and 50× hairier. They are also particularly memed often for that super long nose. It's the wacky features that make these dogs all so amazing to me. I've watched videos of them running around, and they are a playmate I would love to have.

Speaking of dogs with unusual bodies- we could literally never leave Great Danes out of the equation. Come on, if it was convenient and easy to manage, you too would love a dog in your house who is bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger. They look like titan dalmatians, and the size of those feet for crying out loud!!! Imagine being that huge! Just remember, never rent an upstairs apartment if you buy one, I would hate to have this bad boy fall through onto my dinner table! To be honest, his adoption fee alone probably costs more than what it would take to buy your own place. And for good reason, there's a big price for great enjoyment.

Of course- being a pitbull also has a scale- playgroup bestie to Heath Ledger. I think these were the very first dogs I learned to love!!! PRECIOUSSS 💕💕💕

Also shout-out to all those other pretty dog breeds! Popular or lesser known! The Bulbenbeisser (extinct sadly), Drevers, Norwegian Elkhounds, Boerboels, Dachshunds, German Shepherds, and Tibetan Mastiffs!

The no longer existent yet still beautiful Bulbenbeisser, next to a Norwegian Elkhound! The bulbenbeisser is distantly related to the modern boxer dog, and is also known as the German Bulldog. When it was around, it was known for being very agile and strong, such abilities were used for things like boar hunting.

The Norwegian Elkhound is a special dog, used for various things such as hunting, herding, and protecting. It's name makes its origin and main use clear, they come from Norway and are good at hunting down Elk! They look like little huskies to me.

Second Row is a Drever dog, known also as a Swedish Dachsbracke! They are used to hunt deer, and descend from another dog of a similar name. They look just a little bit like beagles if you think about it.

The third row dog is a massive Boerboel, colored a very cute tanned brown. It's not well recognized, but is a large guard dog from South Africa. They are on average 50 pounds heavier than a Cane Corso, another favorite breed of mine.

The final row is an ancient breed, a Tibetan Mastiff. Very big and fluffy! Actually, very big is a massive understatement. These dogs are absolutely enormous and are used to hunt bears!

Hope you enjoyed me hyper fixating on dogs for like a whole hour I will do it again probably like 30 times

you know how at the end of Skyward sword, fi goes back into the sword and so is demise and Ghirahim (by extension) are sealed in it??

do you ever think about the fact they're in a sort of etheral room, the three of them, simply chatting ?? and maybe ghirahim and demise calmed down because of the purifying aspect of being inside the sacred sword?? and maybe the curse of demise was all talk and maybe he sees the value of light while he's "brainwashed" in a purified world?? and that ghirahim just wants to be with his master like the borzoi boy he is?? so he doesn't mind???? and if demise and ghira got purified, maybe they're also lending strength to the master sword with fi???????

Demise and Ghirahim being (even if momentarily) sealed within the master sword with Fi is HILARIOUS worst roommates ever

But yeah it’s actually kinda amazing because botw says that the master sword is the sword that seals the darkness and. Yeah it literally sealed Ghirademi in there (GET EEBY DEEBIED FUCKING IDIOTS)

It’s a bit funny… Fi entered her eternal slumber because she sealed the darkness so if she were to like. Become herself again would it unseal Ghirahim?? Much to think about

6. What is your darkest fear about writing?

- um, I get nervous that I'll get too obsessed and then never escape. I worry I will be come to obsessed with the project and the outcome and then I'll never get out, only consumed by my work... I get a little freaked out when I get close to it.

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?

- i LOVE storytelling, and just being anywhere near the process of storytelling and character development and growth and beauty and love AGH its my favorite thing to be involved in... its why I love trigun and Fullmetal and the adventure zone !!!! They all tell such beautiful stories and I want to try and emulate that

27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?

- i used to think it would be knives but its vash T-T i still feel like i haven't quite gotten him right. Perhaps I've gotten 98 and Stampede vash correct, but I just don't think I could write trimax vash... at least not yet. He's so ... different from his other counterparts and I would need to reread trimax before I even attempted

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

- this is in part with the fact that she doesn't have a ton of canon content, but Milly... I love her so much T-T. Meryl is a close second and used to be my favorite bc I felt I could write her so easily, but Milly has been SO FUN to develop and write for and sometimes I think I've strayed from who she really is ? But then I remember that I've developed my own story where these characters grow and Milly is a part of that.

40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.

- So this is a tiny lil thing that I got from @ink-the-artist bc I like one line poetry quite a bit??? But its paired with their incredible borzoi works but the poem is

I will remove my teeth, for I want to remain calm despite my anger

some general tidbits:

Pess Edgeworth as she is in Kindred has an entire google doc explaining her genotype and phenotype, for what she looks like in the fic, because i am an Insufferable Nerd. here it is you're welcome

Kindred's writing and planning was actually split into 2 google docs; since I had such a big hiatus in the middle, and I have weird feelings about editing a doc if it's sat untouched for a long time (no idea why???) I started another one for [redacted] planning and post-hiatus writing come ch8.

I also had an entire spreadsheet for date and time math because otherwise i could not hold it all in my tiny peanut brain

[SPOILERS AHEAD FOR CHAPTER 8 ONWARDS]

Here's the story of why I made Kindred a casefic ;)

I had the Vibes for Kindred, and the eventual endpoint, in my head very early on. I knew I wanted a slow, soft, slow-burn, very character-focused and driven fic where I could zoom right in on what adopting a dog is actually like, and how that would interplay with Miles' brain and his past, and inflict some character development on him whether he liked it or not. That was beginning and midplot sorted. But the climax and ending worried me - I had a very certain feeling I couldn't do the Whole fic with just Pess' adoption as the inciting incident. This proved true when writing ch7 got very difficult - I was nearing a change in structure but I also sort of just ran out of things to talk about that fell in line with the daily format and mood of the fic. (Besides the Maya call. that's still one of my favourite parts of the entire thing) I couldn't keep going without zooming the fic out in time from day-to-day to likely the whole rest of the disbarment, bc lbr it'd take that long for Mies' adjustment in behaviour to bleed out from his relationship with Pess to his other relationships. And I knew that allowing the action to peter out in this way would probably make the bottom fall out of the end of the fic, when it should really be ratcheting tighter (which is something I'm VERY proud of in how Kindred turned out. plot tension is not something ive been excellent at in the past but I really got the effect I was going for in the end I think). I also had a dangling question I hadn't solved - where did Pess come from? Borzois are hardly common in America OR Japan, let alone Japanifornia, and it's highly unlikely to just trip over one in a shelter. There had to be something else - she'd been put there for a reason, and not by chance. (You can see where this is going).

The turning point: a cricket game.

I am not someone who enjoys Sports. but unfortunately i am Australian, and we are batshit for cricket, so it was on against my will in the background as i noodled on my brainstorming doc. all of a sudden I hear one of the umpires referred to by the commentators and sit bolt upright. "Is his name fucking Rifle?" I ask my dad with pure incredulity. "Yeah," he says, mildly annoyed and not at all realising why that is the coolest shit in the world and I am losing my mind. Turns out the guy has been around forever, actually used to play on the international team, and that's probably old news to anyone who actually follows cricket, but his name is Paul Reiffel and that was the funniest shit in the world to me. I immediately thought ...someone has to write a casefic using that name. ...what if it was me. ......what if kindred turned into a casefic. UH OH

Was scared shitless and not certain on actually doing that but I started planning it anyway, even if a casefic is the opposite of things in writing that I'm actually good at. (Remembering exact details and arranging a crime scene and alibis? amazed i made it through with only a 1 year hiatus. it should have taken me an entire lifetime) Pess being actually involved in the case (spoilers) wasn't in the works from the very start, but it did come into play very early because using that as a way to resolve All the plot threads was just a no-brainer.

Danganronpa furry headcannons V1 part2!!

Guinea pig: one. Look at him^. Guinea pigs are vocal and curious creatures and get excited when they’re favorite people are around. They are gentle and relatively friendly. They’re also very playful and like having activities!

Snowy Owl & Cat hybrid: Snowy owls are silent and rather reclusive/shy however they can be quite the opponent when they feel a threat. Cats are known to be confident, easy going, timid, and can seem unfriendly from their bluntness. Both exhibit amazing stealth skills.

Brown Hyena: Brown hyenas are mostly nocturnal solitary scavengers who are known to chase away and attack other species to take their prey, they mostly scavenge for food but will kill. For this matter we are going to focus on female Hyena behavior too! Female hyenas are highly aggressive and dominate. They like to be in control and orderly, they will get what they want and will attack whoever dares to oppose. They are also witty, smart, and unapologetic.

Wolf: Wolves are playful and caring and devoted to family/their pack! While they can be laid back and gentle they do not take shit and will fight for those they care for. They can be silly as they play but overall they are Noble creatures dedicated to loved ones.

Clydesdale Horse: Clydesdales are calm, collected, gentle giants who are spirited as well as intelligent! They are super strong though! Not to be messed with even if they are laid back and caring, Clydesdales can pull 2,000 and 8,000 pounds! Amazing strength!

Collared Falconet: Falcons are alert, outspoken, and communicative! They’re described to be natural negotiators, visionary, direct, and flexible.

Border Collie Dog: Border collies are described as cuddly, intelligent, friendly, and high energy workaholics! They’re very loving and affectionate around friends but cautious of strangers and having a activity or job to do is the key to a good life for them!
