Loud, messy, and generally annoying roommate learns his lesson

So I had a roommate over this last summer, as we subleased an apartment in my hometown from a friend of my roommate's who was traveling for the summer. It worked out perfectly, because he was able to give us a cheap enough rent that I could work a factory job in town and still save enough money to put towards tuition for the next year of college.

Now for a little backstory. This friend of mine, we'll call him "Alex", for privacy. I don't like the guy, but I'll still respect his privacy. I use the term "friend" fairly loosely, as we come from a small town (about 5,000 people), so everyone knew everyone, and Alex and I graduated together. We never hung out together outside of the classes and extracurriculars we had together, but I had never had any issues with the guy before this.

So, fast forward to the first week of living together. All was ok at first, some minor annoyances, but nothing major. However as time went on, things started to pile up. Literally, and figuratively. It started with some minor annoyances. We're both guitarists, and would occasionally play together. I'd been playing consistently for about a decade at this point, he'd been playing on and off for a few years. However, when we started living together, he started playing more, probably motivated by seeing how much I played. Nice, right?

Well the biggest problem with this was that he worked the 3rd shift at the same factory (midnight-7am) and I worked the first shift (7am-3:30). So he would play his guitar in his room (right next to mine) at all hours of the night while I was trying to sleep. His typical routine was to crash as soon as he got home, sleep until 3 or 4, (usually he was awake by the time I got home, but not always) make himself food, and then divide the time between then to either play video games with his friends online, or play guitar. Loudly. I typically tried to be in bed by 9, but was almost always woken up either by his guitar, him screaming loudly during a League match, or him clambering loudly around the apartment to get ready for work. I swear it sounded like he was wrestling Macho Man Randy Savage himself in the living room and kitchen at 11:30 at night every night. On top of all of this, he would have his girlfriend over occasionally, as well as other girls I'm assuming he had met on Tinder (as I saw him swiping through occasionally). And the walls between our rooms were very, very thin. I had many conversations with him to try and explain that the noise was bothering me, but he responded with "Sorry dude, just get carried away sometimes. Have you tried headphones?" (yes, that's an exact quote, and yes I had tried headphones, but to no avail. They were too uncomfortable to sleep in). I was exhausted at work every day, relying on the Monster they sold in the break room every day to get me through (so yes, I do blame him for my current addiction to monster). So like I said, things started to pile up, figuratively in that regard, and it was getting old.

On the literal side of things, Alex was a slob, and his things would LITERALLY start to pile up. He'd leave his change of clothes in the living room when he'd change before work and wouldn't pick them up for a week at a time. His room started to smell, and soon, so did he. I don't think I saw him take out the trash in his room once, and I would constantly have to enter his den of despair to retrieve dirty dishes, as he liked to eat in his room while watching anime or playing League, and just leave the dishes on his nightstand. I also started noticing food items going missing from the fridge. Again, I approached him about it, and again, was given an apology and a promise to clean up. But that promise remained unfulfilled. The last straw finally came around mid June.

At work, there are small lockers that employee's can use to store their things. They aren't assigned, so it's a first come first serve basis. You write your name on a sticker and put it on an empty locker, and you are responsible for getting a lock for the locker. I got a simple padlock with a combination, and took the last available locker, recently vacated as one of the employee's got moved to a different assembly department within the factory. I gave Alex the combination and told him he could share it with me so long as he didn't mess with my stuff. Things in there started to pile up as well. Mainly work gloves and safety glasses, as he would put them in there at the end of his shift, and then forget and just get new ones. Our factory handed out gloves and safety glasses for free, so I'm sure he never thought anything of it.

This was just another minor annoyance until one day I left my wallet in my storage locker, and didn't realize until the next day, as I was on my way to work and stopped for gas, and didn't have my card to pay for it. No biggie, this has happened before. I get to work, and as I'm walking in, Alex is walking out. After my shift, I grab my wallet and go to get gas when I notice there's $60 in cash missing from my wallet. I know this because it was money I had set aside to go to a concert later that summer (the last Warped Tour, bittersweet, I know). I went home and confronted him about this when he woke me up clambering around in the kitchen again, and he denied it (of course), even though he's the only one with the combination to my lock. So I decided I was done. Over the next week, I tried to think of a plan, and had a eureka moment when my boss asked me to switch to second shift for a few weeks while another coworker from that shift was taking advantage her years of accumulated vacation days. Perfect.

Finally, ON TO THE REVENGE.

I started with small, reasonable things, like not washing the dishes, hiding the few that were mine in my room, and washing them and putting them away as I used them. The apartment had its own washer and dryer, but the guy we were renting from took his laundry supplies with him, asking him to use our own. Fine by me, I had bought the detergent and dryer sheets anyways. I promptly moved those back into my room as well, and started only doing my own laundry. At work, I had made a new friend who agreed to let me stow my wallet, keys, and phone in his locker during the work day, as I was now temporarily on second shift and my things were usually gone by the time he came in for his shift. Alex's laundry started to pile up. By the look (and smell) of it, he was rewearing clothes several times without washing them. I have no idea what he started using for dishes, I can only hope he wasn't eating off of the gross used ones. He never came and talked to me, and I'm not sure if it was out of laziness or if it was because he knew he didn't have a leg to stand on. But sadly, the smell just kept getting worse, and my efforts seemed to just accelerate his degradation into grossness. But I still had one more card to play.

See, the best thing for me about moving to second shift was that I would now come home at midnight and be able to sleep peacefully while he was gone. When he came home at 7, I would be waking up to start my day. And start my day, I did. First thing I did was make myself some breakfast. Usually a nice fruit smoothie in the blender, the loudest appliance in the kitchen. I would then go into my room, crank up the volume on my amp and jam out to some music, singing along to Mayday Parade, All Time Low, Sum 41, and a myriad of other bands I was listening to at the time in preparation for Warped Tour. I'm not a bad singer by any means, but I'm no Jason Lancaster. I would also occasionally invite my then-girlfriend over during that time, and we were, by no means, quiet. This seemed to be the last straw for Alex now. He stopped me one afternoon before I left for work, and asked me to keep it down while he slept, as it made it hard for him to focus and stay awake at work.

I responded in my most fake-sincere voice, "Sorry dude, I guess I just get carried away. Wanna borrow my headphones?" After a few more days of noise, I think he got the memo. He bought his own laundry detergent and dish soap, and slowly worked his way through the massive pile of shit in his cesspool of a room. By the time I switched back to first shift, he was the quietest, and most considerate roommate ever. However, the smell didn't leave the room, and I was concerned, so I called the friend we were renting from to ask if he had a carpet shampooer I could use to get the smell out. It was at this point the friend told me that this wasn't the first time this had happened, and apparently Alex had rented the apartment the previous summer as well, and the friend came home to find it filthy. Lucky for Alex, the person he was sharing the apartment with left to go back to school early for a university job orientation, and the friend came home to find Alex trying to clean the last of the apartment, blaming the smell and the messiness on the roommate who had left. The friend started to put it together and thanked me for letting him know, and that he would take care of the smell when he got back, but I insisted.

The Pièce De Résistance came when I sacrificed a couple hours of sleep to go into work while he was on the assembly line, grab his phone (which he kept unlocked) from the locker that still had my padlock on it, and found very incriminating text messages from the various other girls he had probably brought back to the apartment. I screenshotted them, send them to myself, and then deleted the evidence that could trace back to me. When I got home, I sent them all to his girlfriend, another girl I had graduated high school with, and that I was ACTUALLY friends with. I also sent screenshots to his "Tinderella's", who's numbers were in the screenshots of the texts under the contact names. And that was the end of that.

Alex was no longer allowed to stay at that friends apartment, but hopefully I taught him to respect his roommates. Because after sharing an apartment with him, with my own separate bedroom, I can't imagine having to share a dorm with him. As for his girlfriend, she dumped him immediately, and Alex spent less and less time at our apartment for that last month, probably going to his Tinder girls' places instead. In retrospect, I should have found a way to mess with his Tinder to stop him from getting matches, but I'm not sure what I could have done, and I think I made the poor guy suffer enough.

Anyways, sorry for the length, I'm not the best at condensing stories. I have a few other, more juicy revenge stories I'd be happy to post another day, I just had to deal with a roommate conflict earlier today (I'm an RA) and it reminded me of this situation. So I hope you enjoyed!

Cutie Reviews: Kawaii Box Nov 18

So far nothing from Blippo, but it’s only been like... 3-4 days since I got the email from them, I assumed if anything it’d at least be a week, maybe two at the most. But again no tracking so I can’t be positive.

I can’t wait!

Gudetama Chocolate Bar

If you’ve been a reader of this blog then you might recognize the candy bar image on the wrapper. That’s right. It’s this again. I swear every few boxes we’re getting one.

But for anyone new or who are unfamiliar with this, this candy bar has a textured outside, sorta giving it a log design. On the inside is wafer, usually with a very thin layer of cream. They either come in chocolate or white chocolate, and features tons of various wrapper options; I usually just see Sanrio, but I’ve also seen Disney ones and on the Blippo website they have a Detective Conan one right now for $1.90.

It tastes pretty good, and that’s coming from someone who isn’t the strongest fan of white chocolate. I prefer dark or strawberry, but regular chocolate is always good too.

It makes me think of an imitation kit-kat bar, which isn’t bad at all. But I really wish they would give us something else.

Sakura Desk Calendar

Our next item is a very useful one for writing down appointments and keeping schedule of important dates- next to a planner that is. This is a cute little fold-able, standing calendar featuring a water color sakura theme.

And kitties of course.

It also features a side for writing down important notes or events/appointments. Available on the blippo website or $3.90.

I really love the colors and designs, they’re so gentle and pretty to look at~ Calendars are useful and all- but in all honesty I can’t even put mine on the calendar. Not only because Peach (my cat) would knock it down, but because I can’t get these ones with the folding bottom to sit. At all. I don’t know why, but they don’t work for me.

But on the plus side it’s small enough that I could keep it next to my bed in my stand, or I could put it in my bigger purses.

Sanrio Characters Sakura Plushie

A super cute Sanrio buddy to match our adorable new calendar. Each has a pretty pink pastel color scheme and cute little sakura on them. This line features My Melody, PompomPurin, Hello Kitty, and Cinnamoroll, and each one costs $4.90. These types of plush are similar to Tsum-Tsum, which means they can be stacked. Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ No, it doesn’t go with Thanksgiving like at all, but it’s so cute! I love the detail of the little flowers, which are very pretty to look at. The plush quality is also really nice, and she’s very soft~

Sushi Pen

Okay, still not thanksgiving- but at least this item is a food, which counts for something right?

Each pen costs $3.90, and there are 6 variations; salmon, egg sushi, riceball, rice in leaf, fried shrimp, and shrimp on rice. The topper is a rubbery plastic.

The pen is fine-tipped and it works very well. But the ink takes a while to dry so it isn’t a good option unless you plan to leave your book or paper out to avoid smears. I also discovered that the topper doesn’t stay on like you think it would. When you put the cap on the “pen butt“ it falls off semi-easily.

Thankful Memo-It Notes & Molang Eraser

Our next item are these cute Memo notes themed after 3 different girls, and oddly a polar bear. Each set is $1.80, and they have 30 notes in total.

I think it’s a cute idea, you never really see memo notes like this here. I like how you can write on her top, and if you’re really bored you could “design“ her a new one.

What bugs me is that it feels like lately they’re always giving us memo notes, and I have them practically coming out of my ears now; but at least I have a variety to suit the mood or theme.

Going with the stationery theme, our following item is a set of adorable Molang erasers. The set costs $1.90 on Blippo.com- and to get it out the way now, no they aren’t scented. They stink like eraser.

The quality is pretty much like any other eraser, pretty good. They look so cute together, I can’t bare the idea of actually using them though~

Pastel Animals Coin Purse

Next up is this cute pleather (imitation leather) coin purse that features an adorable animal on a soft pastel background. Each costs $2.90, and besides this sheep, there is also a pink bunny, a light blue squirrel (which oddly says “forest” despite being surrounded by cactus), and a mint one with dancing kitties.

For a coin purse this is perfect. It has a nice clasp to keep it shut, and the inside is really soft, but I feel like it could collect dirt easily. As much as I don’t like yellow, I still think it’s pretty cute. It’s small enough to sit in a variety of locations and not get in the way.

I will note that there is an issue with the fabric, as you might be able to see in the pic; it’s like the material is deformed. I didn’t use this yet and it hasn’t been out of packaging or the box since I took the picture. I’m not really sure what caused it, and nothing seems to fix it.

San-X Corocoro Coronya Stickers & Kawaii Neko Letter Set

For $2.50, this is a sheet of Corocoro Coronya stickers featuring Coronya and his friends, and pretty gold line details. The sheet includes 70 stickers in total, and their smaller size makes them puurfect for dressing up plain items~

They’re so cute~ These would be perfect for resin projects if I was still doing them. When stickers include gold or glittery detail, I sometimes worry the sheet will end up being a mess (like the jinbeisan stickers I got a while back...). But this one is great! There are a few gold lined spots that are messy, but I would still give it an 8 or 9 out of 10.

Next is this cat letter set from the brand TreeinArt, a stationery and gift shop. There are 3 envelopes and 6 pages. I couldn’t find the exact one on Blippo.com, but I did see a unicorn set that looks like it for $2.90, so I’m going to assume that was what this one is too.

Both the paper and envelopes have a kitty design.

It’s very simple, but kind of cute still. But I kind of wish there was more to it than this this. Like I think it would have been cute if they had included a pencil and eraser (or an eraser on a pencil), or maybe a little sticker sheet to decorate it a bit more. I don’t know, to me it feels like it needs something...

Marumofubiyori Plush Pouch and Coin Purse

Our final item is this adorable Marumofubiyori pouch/coin purse. Available for $5.90, there are 4 different poses available, each one cuter than the last~

The inside of the pouch has a very soft mesh-like cloth in it, so it feels really nice to touch. The tag also includes little details on Marumofubiyori and his friends.

With how many Marumobubiyori items that have been popping up lately in these boxes, I’ve quickly become a fan x3 they’re so precious. The quality on the pouch/purse is well done, although they used a slightly transparent white fabric (you can see the spots of his blanket through him). The applied blush is also an adorable touch~

♥ Cutie Ranking ♥

Content - ♥ ♥ ♥ Honestly I wasn’t feeling this box too much. I like a couple of the items, but it’s overall stationery theme was kind of bugging me. I love getting new pens and erasers, but did we really need all of the stationery basics in a single box?

Price - ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Some of the items I was a bit surprised over how pricey they were. But I’ve seen worse so it’s not too bad, and in total this box costed $32.50- and remember, the box itself only costs 17-19 dollars. So yeah, I’d say they were spoiling us with this one.

Theme - ♥ Nothing actually fit thanksgiving, like at all. A couple of items had Thanksgiving descriptions in them- but I felt like it was forced, and I’m sure there are ways they could have achieved something that felt like the holiday besides the cover art.

Total Rank: 4 out of 10 Cuties. This box felt completely underwhelming to me. It wasn’t bad and I’m probably being too critical, but compared to this one I felt like last months box was way better. I don’t have a problem with stationery, but I know for a fact they do have some food items that would have been perfect for a Thanksgiving box.

1. Sanrio Sakura Plush - I love love love love pink, and I love love love flowers! This is a perfect item for me ♥

2. Pastel Animals Coin Purse - As much as I dislike yellow I ended up really liking this purse a lot more than I thought I would. I really like pastels though so I think that plays a part in it. The sheep on mne is also just really cute.

3. Coronya Stickers - Looking at these just makes me want to sink my teeth into some delicious coronet~

4. Marumofubiyori Pouch - I kind of wish I got it in one of the other poses, but this one is still really kawaii~ I also like how soft the pouch is. I definitely want to start using this one.

5. Sushi Ink Pen - I really wish I would have gotten the rice ball one, but it’s still pretty cute. I love sushi, so sushi-themed items are automatically awesome in my books. Although looking at it too long is liable to make me hungry~

6. Memo Notes - The little girl design is pretty cute.

7. Molang Erasers - As cute as they are, the poses are generic. Plus I was an avid eraser collector as a child, I know I can’t use these. I’d hate to ruin them.

8. Sakura Calendar - I love how pretty it looks, but the folding flap on the bottom is kind of annoying. I don’t understand why they don’t work for me >3<

9. Gudetama Chocolate Bar - The package is pretty cute, but I’m tired of these.

10. Neko Letter Set - The images are cute but I really don’t see myself using it anytime soon.

New York Serenade Part 2

Alec hummed the last few notes to himself over and over again until it was the last thing he heard as he fell asleep.

The next morning, Alec was greeted to silence in the city. His window was open, the sun was long since risen and there was nothing disturbing about it.

Which was a problem.

The neighbor would have been singing away by this time, or at least tuning his guitar by now. But there was none of that. There was nothing but the hum of soft traffic nearby and the birds singing their attraction for one another.

Alec rose from the bed and got ready for the day. He put on his daily, colorless outfit with his notoriously bland shoes and leather jacket. Others would see the poor taste in fashion and color, but all he saw - more so, felt - was pure comfort. And that was everything he aimed for in life.

He took his time eating breakfast, each crunch of his cereal disturbing the peace of his perfect world. But a man had to eat and he was willing to suffer for a brief moment to allow his stomach to not cry out in later hours of the day. He found himself wondering about the neighbor upstairs and what could possibly be better than trying to serenade the air once again. Perhaps he was eating cereal too. What kind of cereal does he like?

Alec pushed himself away from the table and cleaned the dishes before heading out into the hall. The resident across the hall - an older woman, Dorothea - peeked out of the crack in the door at the sound of him leaving his own dwelling. Her cracked and wrinkled face did nothing to deter him. He merely gave her a half smile before making his way down the stairs. The elevators were his choice, naturally, but the day demanded something else. It was in the air, in his blood, in his head.

Something new.

When he reached the bottom of the stairs, he made sure to check his mailbox, finding nothing there, of course, except the sparse bills and subscriptions he owed.

Nothing new.

Alec stuffed the mail into his bag and made off for the new day. He opened the door as another man stepped in, their shoulders knocking ever so slightly. Alec spun, spilling apologies while the other tripped slightly with the paper bag in his hands before scrambling off for the elevator.

Nothing new.

The rest of the day was horrible.

The change in the air could have been a figment of his imagination - the hope for something new to happen in the day, but there was nothing that could ever change. The day was spent dealing with people in the library who clearly had never been to a library before, and needed hand-holding to figure out how to research where the location of their intended book was. All they needed to do was log into the network and search it. But even that was a hassle for some people.

Alec lugged himself into the lobby with a heavy sigh. He checked his mail again, expecting nothing. He opened and closed it before recognizing the familiar shape and size of an envelope hiding in the darkness of the box.

It was one of the decorative envelopes one would get for a party or event, rather a bill or notice. The paper was a deep, dark red with a gold sticker holding the flap closed.

This was new. He had never received anything from anyone before. Not even his own family sent him things. They either delivered it themselves (as an excuse to see him) or never did.

He checked for a return address, mailing address, anything to indicate who it may be from. But there was nothing. The only indication was that they had some good stationary worth showing off.

Alec couldn’t wait to walk up three flights of stairs to open it in the sanction of his home. He pulled the sticker off and pulled out the simple square sheet that was left inside for him. Gold writing graced the page, in elegant font: Nine-Thirty. M.

No anyone else, it would be gibberish. The numbers would mean nothing. The single letter - nothing. To Alec, it was everything - contact.

He checked his phone for the time: 6:22 pm.

Alec didn’t waste any time bolting for the third floor as if it held all of life’s answers.

Nine o’clock came slowly.

It was like each second was a minute longer than it needed to be and it didn’t help that Alec counted and paced in his living space until it was ten past nine. He had the window open to the fire escape, a better vantage point to listen than the one in his bedroom which faced the opposite side of the building.

Alec started to worry when it was five minutes past the intended time, but then it came:

All I want is nothing more

I could die as a happy man I'm sure

He sounded gentle and unsure, almost. It was in the strum of his fingers and the slight pause after each line of lyrics. It was like he was second guessing every move, every breath he was making.

But he continued.

He’d always continue.

When you said your last goodbye

I died a little bit inside

Alec wondered what the man looked like. He knew what he sounded it like, sure. It was unmistakeable and enriching. Alec would listen to it without end so long as he could wake up and go to sleep with it.

Perhaps he was blonde with blue eyes. Or brown. Or green. That really didn’t matter to him. He was probably tall too and had some forbidden and secretive birthmark he doesn’t want anyone else to know about. Alec snorted at his own thoughts.

I lay in tears in bed all night

Alone without you by my side

Alec could hear it clearly now - the hesitation.

But If you loved me

Why did you leave me

Take my body

All I want is

All I need is

To find somebody

There was something else behind the voice.

Every so often he would pause and continue, the words following quivering - shaking.

It left Alec feeling utterly raw and vulnerable.

I'll find somebody

Something wet hit Alec’s cheek. He quickly rose his hand to his face and wiped away the water that found itself there. In that split second, he wanted to blame it on the neighbor above him. He wanted to scream and poke a broom at the ceiling claiming that a pipe was broken and he needed to fix it.

But no one would believe him.

The tears on his face kept coming and Alec really didn’t know what to do with them. He just let them fall. One after another they kept coming and there weren’t enough hands to keep swiping them away.

They fell onto his clothes.

They fell onto his neck.

They simply fell… fell.. fell.

'Cause you brought out the best of me

A part of me I'd never seen

Alec was brought back to another time - a time when he had been the best version of himself. It was new and exciting and so free that he thought nothing could ever ruin it. It had been several years ago when he had been trying to discover who he was in the world. He was Alec Lightwood, sure, but that really wasn’t him. It was a burden at that time - the burden of responsibility and honor on the family name. He was supposed to follow in his father’s footsteps and run “the family company” and “make us all proud”.

That dream was thrown away the second he told his sister the truth:

He didn’t want it.

He didn’t want the family honor.

He didn’t want the burden of the Lightwood name.

He wanted something for him. He wanted happiness and something that actually made him want to smile and wake up every morning. He wanted to go to school and explore what there was that the world had to offer for him.

You took my soul wiped it clean

Our love was made for movie screens

It was in his exploration that he met the first boy he would ever love.

It was his freshman year of college when they met in the Philosophy class. Alec hadn’t meant to be there in the first place. He mistook the classrooms and ended up there but he had seen him there and couldn’t really leave. He gave him a seat next to him and from there it was like it was meant to be.

The one meeting turned into lunches together around campus. And then it was late night study groups - which turned into a people-watching fest in the library - and eating food on the lawn. Eventually Alec got the nerve to ask him what was between them and if it could be something more.

That’s how he got his first boyfriend and first kiss on the same day.

But If you loved me

Why did you leave me

And then it went to shit.

He woke up the morning after. Alone.

Alec went into panic at first and eventually managed to settle down. He got it into his head that everything was fine and that they were fine.

Take my body

The next morning he found out it had been a dare.

It was all a lie. A game to see how much time was needed to take and break a heart.

Take my body

Two weeks.

The answer is two weeks.

All I want is

He hasn’t opened his heart up since.

All I need is

He ended up going back to work in his father’s company and fill the impossibly big shoes he left for him after all that time. He was respected and given “the greatest of opportunities that life has to offer”, his father would say. But the shoes were as heavy as they looked.

Alec made sure it swallowed him whole. The void; the work; the numbness.

Everything was lost.

To find somebody

That was when he made the change in his life. He left.

He made the decision. He was the one to take the first step - to walk away. It was only then that he realized how much he was wasting away day after day. He had lost weight. There were bags under his eyes. It was like a ghost had taken place of the man that he used to be.

And now he was something.

Something better.

Super Bomberman R at the Tokyo Game Show (September 23, 2017)

Well, that was a blast and a half! To promote both the new characters and the new battle mode at the Tokyo Game Show, Konami not only hosted a short tournament but also put together a new voiced cutscene to lay the backstory for the upcoming free update, slated for this November. (Because apparently backstory is somehow a thing in a Bomberman game in the year of your Lord 2017.) So far, the presentation is only available on Konami’s all-purpose livestream here on YouTube, which means you’ll probably have to click around in order to find where the SBR segment starts. (EDIT 10/8/2017: The animated cutscene is now here on YouTube!) The translation of the cutscene -- done by Bomber D. Rufi, as always -- is below the cut, at the end of this post.

Here are the major points as far as we can tell; edits may come later as the news settles in better.

The cutscene, aside from introducing some of the DLC characters (as well as Dracula Bomber, whose playability isn’t clear yet), also reveals that the bombersiblings, while not possessed of unique abilities themselves, are able to use the abilities from the DLC characters in Grand Prix mode. Speaking of...

Grand Prix mode is 3-vs-3 battle, as mentioned in a previously reblogged news post. Another feature of it was unveiled here, which is that each character has different stats regarding how powerful they start out (in terms of Fire Up / Bomb Up / Speed Up), how powerful they can be, which abilities they start out with, and which abilities they can potentially gain.

For example, White starts out at 2 Fire, 1 Bomb, and 0 Speed, but can potentially reach 8 Fire, 8 Bomb, and 8 Speed. He doesn’t have any abilities to begin with, but he can potentially gain all of them on the field.

In contrast, Reiko Hinomoto, one of the new DLC characters, starts out at 1 Fire, 1 Bomb, and 4 Speed, with the potential to reach 3 Fire, 3 Bomb, and 8 Speed. She starts off with the Power Glove, and is able to gain the Boxing Glove and the Bomb Kick, but cannot use Pierce Bombs or Rubber Bombs at all.

And Pyramid Head starts out at 1 Fire, 1 Bomb, and 0 Speed, with no ability whatsoever to improve those stats. He starts out with the Boxing Glove, and is able to use Pierce Bombs and Rubber Bombs, but cannot use the Power Glove.

It should be noted, though, that if a bombersibling is assigned a DLC character ability, they also inherit that character’s base stats. So Red is normally 4→8 Fire, 2→5 Bomb, and 0→2 Speed, but if he’s assigned Reiko’s ability that all changes to 1→3 Fire, 1→3 Bomb, and 4→8 Speed, on top of starting off with the Power Glove like she does and being unable to use Pierce or Rubber Bombs.

Crystal mode involves players collecting crystals scattered around the field. Whoever collects the most crystals win. Obviously, you lose the crystals you’ve collected if you’re blown up.

The abilities for the new DLC characters were revealed in their promo graphics, but let’s translate them here:

Reiko Hinamoto Bomber’s ability is Guts Shield, which creates a 3x3 square barrier on the field that goes through blocks and bombs. This can keep out players and explosions while also freezing players caught in the barrier for a few seconds.

Jehuty Bomber’s ability is Zero Shift Alpha, which lets him warp to the nearest enemy.

Anubis Bomber’s ability is Zero Shift Beta, which lets him switch places with the nearest enemy.

The Grand Prix Crystal battles showed off breakable blocks regenerating on the arena, a feature I’ve never personally seen in any Bomberman game before this one. It’s unclear if this is only for Grand Prix mode, or only for Crystal mode, or if it’s something that can be toggled in normal multiplayer.

(Not related to the game itself: the winning team for the mini-tournament mentioned that their coordination was so good because they practiced everyday. Seems to suggest that there’s a robust e-sports scene for Bomberman in Japan, which is something I’ve been wondering about for a while.)

A soundtrack for SBR is slated for a December release, with some hints that the little octopus fella in the promo image (hailing from Parodius) may just possibly be a DLC character down the line.

Visitors to Konami’s booth were rewarded with this adorable collectible sticker sheet.

VIC VIPER: As I thought...you really don’t know anything. There is a secret hidden within your bodies.

WHITE: A secret?

VIC VIPER: That’s right. You aren’t just robotic life forms. You are legendary bombermen, with infinite expansion of your capabilities. I will show you the proof of what lies within your bodies as prototype bombermen. Simon Bomber -- the memory tapes!

I bought a car on Vroom. This is my experience.

Buying a car sight-unseen can be unnerving. I wasn't really sure what to expect, so I wanted to share my experience to hopefully help others.

Purchasing: About a week before I made a decision, I got an insurance quote and applied for an auto loan. Day of, I called Vroom and spoke with a person on the phone before purchasing. They seemed pretty knowledgable about the specific vehicle and were able to look things up. Told me the car was inspected, cleaned and received new tires. No industrial cleaner so it was 95% that the previous owner wasn't a smoker. I put my $500 hold payment down and then they began the paperwork. It hit my inbox about 3-4 hours later. I filled out what I needed to and sent it back. Relatively painless. The delivery people called me that night and the day after to schedule the available times.

Shipment and arrival. I didn't really hear much from them until the day before the car arrived and then spoke with the driver on the day of delivery to coordinate drop off. The driver arrived within 10 minutes of when he said he would be there and I missed almost no work to go home and pick it up. When the car arrived, the exterior was kind of dirty, which I'm assuming was from the drive. No biggie. Interior was very clean but had 3 stickers plus the dealer sheet on the window still. The trunk also had a random hat in it, which I found odd but not a deal breaker. The dealer sheet which had warranty info on it was really on there and took three rounds of goo gone to get completely off. Additionally, the car arrived needing a full tank of gas (less than a quarter remained).

Inspection and first drive. The car drove pretty well. I noticed an odd noise coming from the front but it wasn't horrible, just a tad louder than I was expecting. Due to the Independence Day holiday, I was unable to get an inspection that week and had to wait to the following week (1). When the car was inspected, the mechanic found that there was a lot more rust than was expected and it seemed like the car was sitting for a while as was evident by cobwebs. Rotors were rusted and the tires we old and one was showing signs of tire wall damage that the mechanic said could lead to a blow-out. Mechanically the car was sound except for some heavier than expected rust build up.

Conclusion. Overall, I would probably buy from Vroom again. They car price was fair. My main concern is that I wish Vroom took better care of the car while it was in their possession. The car came from Houston, and I'm assuming that it wasn't protected from any humidity while there or driven. Humidity and vehicles don't play well. Additionally, the tires were delivered damaged so I'm not sure if there was no inspection done, if it was done poorly, or if it was done on mechanical function only. In any case, the tire was delivered with a pretty big issue.

Getting issues resolved. I'm still working with Vroom to get these issues resolved. For the mechanical issues not related to normal wear and tear, the claim needed to be filed by my mechanic and that work is ongoing. Vroom has agreed to replace the tire with the hole in the tire wall, but that one only.

Conclusion: (1) Get the pre-purchase inspection set up BEFORE THE CAR ARRIVES. You have a week to return the vehicle and your leverage is much higher in this period. (2) Make sure you have insurance set up before you drive the car the day you get it. (3) Don't expect any frills. The car interior was clean, but that was about it. I would imagine that in order to deliver cheaper prices plus delivery, they need to cut costs in other areas and in this case it appears to be storage, refilling fuel, and replacing wear-and-tear. These aren't complete deal breakers to me, because Vroom has said they will replace the defective tire, and gas is just something you have to buy. (4) If you do want to speak with someone or have questions, call them. The email response was spotty and very delayed. Calls were answered quickly and effectively.

My biggest recommendation to Vroom would be to look into storing the vehicle in an area that doesn't have an average humidity of over 70%. Dallas for example (225 miles away) has an average humidity of 55% which would be much gentler on cars.

Cutie Reviews: YumeTwins February 20

Hello everyone, happy Thanksgiving!

I was planning on posting this last week, but stuff came up. I wasn’t feeling well the day I was originally working on it, then I had plans on Monday (that was the day I went to Ulta), and after having to put my oldest cat -Butch- to sleep, I pretty much lost any motivation to do anything last week. He was really old and sickly as of late because he couldn’t take care of himself anymore.

Anyway, I don’t want this review to be a sad one. I still miss Butch but I want to just be able to treasure our memories knowing he’s not in pain anymore.

Chocolate Pen

If you’ve been a viewer since the beginning of this blog, you might recognize this item. It was my third DokiDoki Box ever, featuring a bakery theme, and this was one of the included items. However, this one actually includes a chain and tag, while I don’t remember my previous one having. These are also available in white chocolate, and strawberry chocolate.

It’s basically a short, average pen in an adorable package. It’s perfect for any little sweet notes you plan to make or letters you might want to give someone you like. It’s a bit awkward to hold, but I love the little detail of “breaking off a piece of chocolate“ for the lid. Things like this are right up my alley :3 but I do wish I got one of the other variants, since I already had this one.

Sanrio Letter Set

These are essential if you plan on handwriting your Valentine’s messages. These came in a variety of characters/themes, each including 1 set of stickers, 12 letters, and 6 envelopes.

The envelopes are a bit different than ones I’ve seen before. They resemble money packets, and feature a name, address, and some other info you can write on the back. The letter paper features the design you see above, with a pink lined side with similar designs on the back. The sticker sheet is pretty small, featuring a couple basic Cinnamoroll and a few other things, like a cinnamon roll and cup of coffee.

I like it. It’s might not scream Valentine’s Day in design but it’s perfect for its intended purpose. I also like having these so if I have a friend who likes a specific character, I could always gift them since I usually don’t use them. But on the off-chance I want to mix things up a little, I could also take out the paper to use for myself.

Zipper Gift Bags

This is another little handy item for the holiday, in case you want to give someone some sweets or a little gift and want to dress it up a little to make it more special.

For this box, we could receive a wide selection of possible styles, including the adorable mason jar designs from a year or so back that we got. I really like this handy handle-type bag. The design is also very sweet, featuring Pikachu and some drinks that look delicious~

Heart Accessory Holder

As you guys know, I love hearts! So I was very excited when I unboxed this, it even features one of my favorite Sumikko Gurashi themes/designs (next to the cat one).

This came in several colors and variations, featuring Pokemon, Sumikko Gurashi, and Sanrio characters.

When you open it up, you’re greeted by a large mirror and a little shelf (which actually connects to the mirror, I completely forgot until I was almost done with the review), which you can keep in for extra-storage or remove just for the 2 larger sides.

I was so excited to use this :3 I have a “collection“ of various storages from these boxes and I keep trying to use them, but I kind of hate having multiple ones and then having to search all of them to try to find a specific accessory because I forgot which one I put it in. So I’ll be able to sort of combine a few of them into just this one (as well as change it up because that’s fun too), or I can use it for extra-makeup storage, because where I keep my makeup, I’m pretty much out of room.

Either way, life will be a bit easier for me now.

Sanrio Pouch Plush

Our last item for the box and one of the cutest are a set of pouch-themed plush, perfect for adding a little present or a few treats for later, or to give to someone you know. Besides My Melody, we could also get PompomPurrin, Hello Kitty, Kuromi, and Cinnamoroll.

It’s kind of funny, because Hello Kitty and Kuromi have always been my favorites. My Melody is cute but I never paid her much attention; these boxes really want me to like her though, because I keep getting her whenever there is an option. I have to say, she’s really grown on me!

These plush are very light and soft, featuring very nice and smooth stitched detail and seams. No visible signs of poor quality. But I will say that the paws have a lot more stuffing than the ears, and the bow on her is really bothering me. I love bows and ribbons but this one looks weird.

Also, it probably goes without saying but you really can’t put much in these, so as far as pouches go, it’s... not the best. But it does include a all chain, so you could also attach it to your bag and use it for things like accessories, change, etc. It also makes a very sweet, cuddly companion~

Opinions

Content - 5 out of 5. Everything is very sweet and cute, and the items are in really good quality. A lot of practicality, and lots of variety.

Theme: 5 out of 5. I was a bit perplexed with this one, because the GIFT vibe from the theme is very obvious, these items are great for gifting others, or even yourself. They also feature cute designs, although I do kind of wish it was more... Valentine’s-ish, you know? Like more pink, more hearts, give me glitter and ribbons!

Total Rank: 10 out of 10 Cuties. While I do wish for a more cutesy love theme for Valentine’s Day like the booklet image implies, I think the items are great, they’re cute and useful! I enjoyed this one fairly more than our January box.
