WOAAAH YOU CAN ASK MY CHARACTERS THINGS TOO?!?!!
Tumblr media
Also inspired by my friends' askboxes (with @architect-lumicent and @lostchelicerate starting this up), I decided to try this out as well! I haven't talked about my characters that much here on Tumblr, yet, so this would be a nice way to get people a little more informed about my weird head puppets. From left to right, we have RY-MI, LO-RE, Ren-EE, a little lower with their arms wide open R-ELI, SW-AN, that little human Erin Webbs, and finally TA-WN! I would have included my good ol' CO-NA, but he's a massive super computer Architect and drawing him in would have been awkward. He's literally just a bigger RY-MI. Feel free to ask my characters anything! Whether it is lore related, or absolute tomfoolery, just lay it on us. Anonymous asks are also open, I just only ask to keep it PG-13!
Tumblr media
More information about the characters after the break. This will double as a character "master post" until I make a separate one.
Tumblr media
RY-MI :: This young Architect is the apprentice of CO-NA and specializes in space drydock management, spacecrafts, and other vehicles. He was the best friend of R-ELI while the two were still broodlings and assisted in their escape from their Network's High Order. RY-MI is also notorious for "taking his dad's car without permission" and test driving spacecrafts. LO-RE :: As the designated historian, record keeper, and anthropologist of her closed off faction's Network, LO-RE is incredibly no nonsense. She takes her work incredibly seriously and is currently stationed on 4546B to salvage information, though fortunately she is a tolerant individual. Can't say the same for Erin, though, she hates that poor guy. Ren-EE :: Ahh, the founder of the closed off faction that a majority of my characters are part of. He split of many Architects from the main Network and created his own nation with them due to the Kharaa, but even after the pandemic died down he continued to keep his people in secrecy. While he himself had a rebellious streak and is rather hardheaded, when R-ELI showed the same attitude he was not swift to understand... in fact, he was swift to shun them into the cosmos. R-ELI :: They are an exiled Architect who used to be the apprentice of the High Order. However, due to their very pointed opinions and all the issues they caused for the High Order, they were removed. Forced away, they're now in charge of their own education/research projects, space travels, and creative progression. They also have severe trust issues because they know too much about people and people want to know what it is. They're pretty silly otherwise. SW-AN :: Stationed on 4546B with LO-RE in order to help them navigate the water planet, SW-AN is a well recognized and educated marine biologist. However, he is also fairly antsy and is spooked easily. He is incredibly close to Erin Webbs and is the partner of TA-WN. Erin Webbs :: He is an Alterran who was sent down with the disguised LO-RE and SW-AN in order to carry out Architect research... which was hidden from Alterra otherwise. He tries his hardest to assist the other two as much as possible and he shows a considerable amount of care for them, even if he makes plenty of quips, but LO-RE does NOT want him to know anything at all... well, that's until he finds out they're actually Architects anyways and he's forced to abandon Alterra. TA-WN :: Commonly referred to as the yeehaw Architect, TA-WN is an ex-industrial worker and is now a full time wildlife conservationist. She knows damn well how to pull her weight and throw the weight of others around. CO-NA :: The Commander in Navigation and Armory. His vessel has been altered to be able to hook up to technology all throughout the Network, however he specializes in vehicles, navigation directory and paths, and weaponry. His vessel also doubles as a massive super computer and for these reasons, he mostly stays within a facility and has his apprentice do the work that requires actively moving about. Very chill guy, just needs a ridiculous amount of Architect coffee and a break from Ren-EE. Psst if you made it here, Architeresa / TA-RA is also available to be asked.

A bunch of Ryley headcanons
I need to write these down before I forget them- just lil titbits of what I think would happen to and with him from living on 4546B for so long
It is most unlikely that he would simply be climbing up the mountains with his bare hands- as much as I acknowledge that this man is a feat of pure strength, I do struggle to believe that he can seriously scale the mountain island with his grubby mitts alone. I think that on the Alterra ship there was likely a few climbing harnesses, likely reserved for maintenance workers or the like, in a part of the ship that we cannot access in the game. As Ryley is essentially a janitor, he likely would have access to these. And when it comes to rope, this would likely be found in the same place. And more of a fun idea- what about if he had little spokes on the back of his heel made from stalker teeth that he could use to slide down slopes! Of course, he likely will need a climbing axe. This he could likely craft from various metal scraps and pipes.
The main hurdle I have with Ryley's improvements to his whole getup is that he needs to be aerodynamic, as he often has to do swimming. He normally wears a whole scuba kit with the rebreather/helmet etc... but if we were to say add useful accessories such as belts, built-in weapons, small pouches, etc.. then suddenly all of those aerodynamics are lost. Though more often he's in like a prawn suit/seamoth in the later-ish parts of the game, so this makes a bit of sense, as the introduction of exosuits and vehicles aligns with the introduction of new inventions and tools. Plus the area of 4546b he is on is a tropical climate, so everything has to be super lightweight and unobtrusive.
Now- considering his diet and lifestyle: Ryley lives on a 13-20% protein diet (considering that fish are 60-82% water and 1-20% fat) and that his daily doings are almost entirely swimming, which uses the entire body's worth of muscles, as well as retaining his breath AND scaling mountains, extreme heat, fighting off deadly creatures, traversing difficult landscapes, and surviving electrical shocks, radiation, overwhelming tropical climates, concussions, brain damage, a deadly bacterial infection, just to name a few. Essentially, he is built different. This means that he will be burning calories, and consequently fat, at an astronomically high pace. This man has to be utterly shredded. It is not until late-ish game that he *might* gain carbohydrate-based fuel (marblemelons and lantern fruit) so by living an INCREDIBLY protein-rich keto diet while practicing strenuous exercise, he is likely to gain muscle mass. Hence, his physical appearance will most likely change from how it was at the beginning of the game. The body is incredibly fickle, and I know it's incredibly hard to show this in a video game! Seeing as he spends at least 7 days on 4564B (including average un-glitched speedruns) this diet is sustained for long periods, which will prove drastic results, for better or for worse.
AND considering that Ryley's PDA at the beginning of the game is completely reset, there are likely hundreds of blueprints missing that would have normally been on his PDA, seeing as the PDA system is one that houses all kinds of tools, both from Alterra and outside sources (Mongolians, sunbeam, etc...) he likely would have even more things to find and build that we, the player, might not be able to. I mean, take the large amount of Below Zero items that aren't in the original game! Goodness knows what's out there... and seeing as he is an engineer/janitor, he likely has experience in handiwork, so upcycling junk he finds is very likely in his DNA! I would imagine him living much like Maida, using bits of junk and handiwork to craft a lifestyle designed to survive the harshest conditions and defend against the worst of the worst.
And also- he most definitely made some panpipes to keep himself occupied, like imagine the soft whistle of panpipes echoing off the two mountains of the floating island at sunset... sweeeeeeet

This got stuck in my head so now I'm sharing it with you.
Aeris (OC) was created by Alterra for intergalactic expeditions, though she never knew any of this because she was created as an embryo that was implanted into her human mother, who was a worker for Alterra.
When she got stuck on 4546B, she discovered data recordings about her in the aftermath of the Aurora's wreck. This made her question who she really was and if she even existed as her own person, and if her name was supposed to be Aeris or if it was just a codename.
As time passed and she progressed onwards, she eventually met the Sea Emperor, who asked for her help to hatch the eggs she could not. Aeris agrees, since she just wants to go home and figure everything out.
So la da dee, everything progresses up to the point of the Neptune Rocket. She says goodbye to the baby Emperors and flies off.
As we all know, a panel goes haywire inside the rocket and forces us to get off at the nearest planet or stargate or whatever it was.
So what if Aeris ended up in the Pokémon universe, and in order to survive she had to become a hybrid since she wasn't used to normal oxygen anymore?
You get a ton of fucked up moments and a girl who's just trying to figure things out while finding herself and her new name.
(I'm way too much of a chicken to play Subnautica in any other mode besides Creative.)
THAT would be an interesting concept. Cross-dimensionality forcing hybridization. Honestly read(or listened to? maybe it was a podcast I can't recall) a body horror like that one time about a planet that forced organic material to adapt to it, but it was even worse than just becoming a hybrid.
Regardless, understandable about Subnautica. Some of those things you just... Don't need to mess with.

I like you guys to know that the thing that replaces Alterra is Egg corporations. It would be XD corporations but Dream bonked him on the head before he became punchable.
Besides the Eggpire is sort of eating up the whole space market. You know. Like a certain mouse in the animation industry....
Also, the ending is hilarious and depressing when you think about it.
(Jack: Man I can't believe we're going home. I don't think I ever want to eat another potato or fish again.
Tommy: Can't wait to never kill a fish again. I hate those guys.
Dream:
Tubbo: Hey Dream what's wrong?
Dream: We work for Egg Corpetations...
Tubbo: Okay and?
Dream: Tubbo. None of us is going to be able to afford the fee when we get back.
Ranboo, a new recruit: What fee?
Ship: Welcome back to Earth. Please pay 1 billion dollars in order to reenter it after using resources from an Egg owned planet.
Ranboo: Oh.
Tubbo: It's okay we'll start a worker's union afterwards.)

OK OK SO im SUPPOSED to be asleep rn but i just had an idea for a bz au and i have to yell about it!! only like vague ideas bc i just thought of it like 5 minutes ago but essentially its a retelling/combination of the old and current storylines, so jeff is in it, and he works w/ marg and sam plus a bunch of various other alterra workers to overthrow the attempt at marketing the kharra (1/2)
sam also gets al-an in her head instead of robin! jeff n marg as the morally gray alterra hating duo we deserved!! more than just sam realizing alterra is up to no good!!! dani and sam being gfs and overthrowing the government together!!!! sam and al-an friendship!!!!! i have SO MANY vague vague ideas but i am already pumped to write this omg.. im ignoring my marg fic so badly rn 😔✊ (2/2)
Ooooooo! I would 100% read that also. My brain immediately went to jeff just being like “yeah i know” when sam tries to tell him about marg or al-an then being totally floored when she reveals she’s dating dani

I haven’t updated this Tumblr in a while- but the game isn’t dead. I’ve been working hard on the backend and trying not to get too distracted.  I’ve finished a LOT of new things this year though, so hopefully I’ll be sharing them here and on the Facebook group and also on the new website We released a new version of the game in May 2020 (We usually release new versions in May, because it’s my birthday) And it had MANY new features including an armor shop, 6 new cantrip spells, and 6 new magic items. It also bumped the card count from 54 to 72.  If there is a 2021 update, it will probably be VERY minor, and only things like changes to shop prices in the armory and updating the title Logo on the box. So, if you’re hoping to play by winter break, you should order now, and your cards will arrive in a few weeks- https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/259143/Age-of-Exploration-Print-and-Play So let’s talk about some of the changes- New Cantrips-
Tumblr media
New Cantrips-
In Age of Exploration, cantrips are designed to be your out of combat spells that players can use to express creativity, and solve puzzles in unusual ways without worrying that they’re expending a spell slot.
Remember that storytelling is free-flowing and most importantly collaborative in AoE, and players are encouraged to ask things like “Can I concentrate to extend the duration of charm and have the guard lead us directly to the wizard’s sanctum?”
Storyteller: Yes, you can, but as soon as you run into another guard they’re going to question where you’re going and why you’ve charmed their co-worker.
Player 2: “Can the 3 of us combine the effects of waterspout, airstream and frostify to make a blizzard that kills all the guards?”
Storyteller: No, you can’t use it to deal damage, but with all 3 of you working together it will be pretty powerful, and big enough to obscure vision around the entire tower.
Player 3: “Can I cast telepathy, then concentrate to maintain that link while I sneak around the back?”
Storyteller: Yes, but you can’t cast any other spells while you do, or you’ll break the link.
As you can see from these examples- Cantrips are very versatile, but storytellers can always impose limits to keep the game interesting
Cantrips In Combat-
In Combat there is a now a fixed set of potential effects that all cantrips can have. They are very minor and generally worse than making a basic weapon attack. The upside: they all have some amount of range and can be cast even when you’re Exhausted at 0 hit points.
Here’s the list of what they can potentially do:
Give advantage to a player's next attack or dodge roll
Move a player or enemy 1 space
Knock an enemy down
Deal 1 or 2 magical damage (flip a coin)
Root a target (5 movement to break)
Heal a player or yourself +1 HP (but not above 10)
+3 Elemental damage to a player's next weapon attack
End ongoing effects on one target
Block the next damage source this turn to a target
Create, Summon, or charm, something that makes an attack which deals 3 damage on a hit
Players should describe how they imagine the spell, and the storyteller will arbitrate the effect it has on the target. For example, if a player says “I cast ‘web’ at their feet, covering their boots in sticky spiderwebs, tethered to the ground.” That’s a great description! The storyteller has a choice about how it plays out- They could be rooted in place, tripped and knocked down, or give a player advantage on their next attack because they’re unable to dodge.
Tumblr media
Magic Weapons We’ve playtested many many magic weapons over the course of AoE history, and these are the 8 favorites. They are definitely powerful, and represent a step up from the basic weapons. Some are more powerful than others and that’s intended. One thing I love about these 8 is that each one represents one of the elements of Alterra. Our Artist, Aikurisu (nsfw) puts a stone of elemental amber into each of these weapons. You can probably Match the elements yourself- so just a reminder the 10 elements are: Earth Fire Air Water Ice Wood Lightning Metal Wood and Shadow (2 of them are not represented by magic weapons yet, but I’ll work on that.)  This is getting really long, so I’ll talk about the Armory in its own post.

For the 21 questions otp ask, Elisa/Lettow, 3, 6, 11 and 12. I hope that wasn’t too much for you 😊
:3!!!!
OTP ask box game.
3. What is your favourite AU/prompt idea/trope for your pairing?
Favourite AU is the one where Lettow didn’t lose track of Elisa and managed to adopt her.
It did... not work out well at first, lol. Lettow had severe depression and had never had a childe before and had no idea what to do with her. Elisa had gone absolutely feral after three months of surviving night-to-night and sleeping in burrows she’d dug herself.
Over those three months Elisa had slowly gone batshit insane. In canon, Lampago scraped her out of it and taught her some survival skills, but this takes place earlier, before Elisa could do anything more than solve intra-kindred issues with “run away or claw their face off.” So in this AU Elisa has gone from a kind, generous and loving vet nurse that loved animals... to this near-wight who actually killed a couple of kindred over territory disputes.
Basically, she couldn’t control her Beast and was getting awfully close to wighting herself. In canon this was reversed by her watching Lampago and fighting hard not to be like her -- in this AU she doesn’t have a bad example to warn her away from going down that path, so she keeps indulging the Beast’s impulses by killing her prey and anyone trying to claim her territory.
Eventually it got bad enough that Lettow intervened before the Prince could put a blood hunt on her head (or his).
At first Lettow had a hard problem just keeping her around -- Elisa kept running away because she’d be overwhelmed or pissed off enough. Each time Lettow would give her a few nights then reappear at her burrow and talk her into coming back, because if she stayed out on her own there was no way she wouldn’t wind up killing someone else and he was highkey really worried the Prince would have her executed.
(Dove thought this was hilarious and that Lettow reaped what he sowed. “You left her so she could learn to survive on her own. Well, now she’s trying to do what you wanted her to do!”)
Needless to say, Elisa developed a Reputation among the Kindred of Tucson for being Lettow’s feral, low-humanity brat.
It did reach a turning point. In canon Lettow wouldn’t give her Stellaluna for thirty years, but in this one he had the same idea and gifted her her own famulus -- that little vampire bat she named Stellaluna. A bit of Elisa’s old humanity came back enough at the gesture that he was able to get through to her, and bond with her through teaching her animalism. Her love for Stellaluna, and her being touched at Lettow’s gesture, was a counterbalance to the Beast.
Yep, that’s right, Elisa had an emotional support vampire bat.
He’d been so desperate he’d seriously considered blood binding her to him until they both got her out of it; a blood bond would have made her so attached to him and desperate to please him it would have given her positive emotions to help lift her out of it instead of primal instinct and impulse, and would have given her willpower to fight her Beast at his behest.
Years later, she’d mention to Lettow that she attributed this phase of her life to severe depression. And he’d be like, “no, you weren’t depressed, you were turning into a wight.”
6. Least favourite canon moment of them?
I honestly can’t think of any explicit moments. All that comes to mind are concepts (that Elisa couldn’t bitch at Lettow about the blood bag thing) or moments that aren’t their moment (Lettow’s bizarre response to Jasper’s torture of Modian and his callousness to Dove), or something that isn’t even a moment (lack of more Reremouse-like missions in-game where you get to work with him hands on!).
11. If they aren’t a canon pairing, how would you get them together?
Their relationship didn’t happen as it did in canon.
Basically, canon moved too fast for them. Elisa strongly resented Lettow at least until the midpoint where he offered her the final three jobs, and she was terrified of him for the whole game except the epilogue because she kept waiting for him to throw her under the bus (the first half) or execute her for Diablerie (the second half). Even after he confronted her about Aila, she was mostly convinced that him having her be the bait was his attempt at killing her without having to execute her.
(Years later he’d tell her that that was sincerely not the case -- that he had her be bait because he firmly believed she could survive anything.)
Needless to say, that’s... not a healthy base for a relationship, even though she was crushing damn hard by the end of the game and was genuinely upset that he didn’t even intend to say goodbye.
But they did get together. After Lettow returned from the Middle East Dove wanted Elisa to do some dangerous jobs and was like, “hey, why don’t we get mister fucking invincible to play bodyguard?”
Lettow was genuinely surprised at how emotional she was at his return -- she would’ve been brought to tears if she could cry. They bonded better this time around, as equals. They talked about Aila and laid that to rest -- it was harder for Elisa to talk about than Lettow. Elisa talked about how Aila was still around. Lettow talked about how he resented Aila for leaving him and letting herself get Diablerised. Elisa got to be turned on by watching him beat the crap out of people who tried to hurt her.
But it was a slow burn because, well. Elisa ate his wife so how could she, in good conscience, ever make a move on him? And on Lettow’s side -- he absolutely despised himself and thought he wasn’t good enough for Aila to stay awake or even alive, and if Aila hated him so fucking much she basically killed herself and put an (in his mind) innocent childe at risk to get away from him, how could he possibly make Elisa happy?
Cue months of mutual pining, and occasionally doing couple things like sharing a bed or cuddling without acknowledging them as couple things.
At one point Lettow bites off more than he can chew even by his standards, which Elisa was able to see plain as day at the time. Their usual tactics when overwhelmed was for Lettow to distract the attackers and for Elisa to run, but this time the opposition was so overwhelming that Elisa knew if she ran Lettow would get destroyed, so she refused to run, which only made things more dangerous for both of them. They had a huge argument about it -- Elisa accusing Lettow of trying to kill himself, Lettow accusing Elisa of being an idiot who didn’t trust him to do his job -- but the whole “oh my god the other person almost DIED” helped them realise that
hey
maybe they should stop letting the Aila thing get in the way and just... get together anyway.
Because they loved each other.
So they did.
And they’ve been together ever since.
12. If you had to take them and plunk them into another fandom, what fandom would that be? Why?
Ooof I really had to think about this one.
There’s no one fandom I’d put them in, but I went into a lot of detail with just one so here’s the one I did:
Subnautica -- Human AU. Elisa is a courier on the Aurora delivering classified governmental data, stuff too important to trust to the post or the internet (or extranet, as it would be). She becomes the only survivor of its crash on 4546B. She feels guilty about falling in love with the planet she’s on and genuinely enjoying much of her time there (when she’s not pissing herself in fear) while knowing at home she has a boyfriend/husband who must be absolutely frantic with worry. She keeps a video diary of her survival there and documents the world as best as she can, tries to find other survivors, and wonders if she’ll ever make it out alive and see Lettow and her parents again -- and if she’ll ever be able to come back if she does.
Meanwhile Lettow is losing his shit, alternating between thinking she’s dead and hoping she’s alive. His subplot is him getting in touch with the loved ones of other survivors and harassing Alterra into mounting a rescue; his hopes are shot down, quite literally, with the discovery of the orbital canon and the fate of the Sunbeam. Alterra is refusing to destroy the orbital canon because uhh we don’t want war with ALIENS??? WE’VE GOT NO DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH ANY ALIENS??? DESTROYING IT MIGHT GET US ALL KILLED???,
but they have a satellite in orbit, out of range of the canon, and it’s looking for evidence of survivors. And it’s been picking up activity -- somebody they can’t identify swimming around near a life pod, or moving on one of the islands, or moving around the Aurora. It’s only when she one day takes a nap on the beach near the orbital canon, her face up to the sky, that they’re able to identify the first survivor -- Elisa Mulgrew, government worker.
That picture of her sleeping face and wet hair makes headlines across multiple systems.
So Lettow finds out she’s alive -- but there’s nothing he can do to bring her home. Nothing. And he doesn’t know how long she’ll live for, or how long Alterra will keep up the expense of the satellite. Because over time it’s becoming clear that Alterra is sinking millions into these efforts and there’s no evidence of any other survivors. There’s only camera recordings of one vehicle moving at a time, one person moving at a time, and the only person they’ve ever managed to record always has the same reddish-brown hair as Elisa. Alterra are trying to stop the search because they see it as essentially wasting millions on one person, who’s “only” a courier, who they can’t even save.
The only reason they’ve been humouring people this long is because of the amount of anti-Alterra political sentiment being whipped up in the wake of the disaster and Alterra’s handling of it, and how many people even within Alterra are upset about the whole thing, and how many people are behind the families of the people who were on the Aurora. And with less and less evidence that anyone other than Elisa survived, even they are starting to lose interest.
Yeah Lettow really copes badly in this AU. “Barely gets out of bed each day” badly.
(When Elisa eventually gets home she leaks the “the usual” audio, which starts a whole new wave of people being mad at Alterra and the guy on it almost certainly getting fired so hard nobody will ever employ him again. Elisa actually feels kind of bad for him.)

Theres always that one characters/things in games that dont get the love they deserve, and i know that i myself dont know all the games in the world so if you have any others that you want to add in feel free to do so in the comments or reblogs!anyhooooooow-
1) Alterra Tech PDA (Subnautica)
Oh we know how scary it can be surviving on a planet made most mostly of water, and how we all need a buddy to help us figure out what to do,find blueprints, and translate an alien language for us,but fear not,for the Alterra Tech PDA is there to do all of those, showing you data, what things do and what materials you need to make them, how much oxygen you have left, the area you are in,all of it
2) Nicoletta Goldstein (DMC5)
Everyone loves having someone who can supply you with weaponry, and technically the only person who can do that is nico herself, being the granddaughter of the woman who made Ebony and Ivory for Dante, she comes up with all types of weapons and ideas
3) Pritchard (Deus Ex)
Aye, everyone needs a co worker who is able to fix them, give them tips on missions, and help with emotions,Pritchard helps you through most of the missions, giving you feedback and over info, such as if there are two different ways to enter a building or what you must do after a tragic event
4) Sarah (FFXII 2)
Sarah, younger sister of lightning,is suddenly awoken when a strange meteor falls nearby her home, introducing teleporting, fighting, and upgrading into her life, although she may seem like a useless protagonist, she is key to the events in the 12th games
5) Desmond (Assassins Creed Series)
As we know,Desmond led us through the first games in the series, being the luckily-unlucky descendant of the assassins such as Altaïr, and being forced to cooperate with a group who long to find out the truth hidden behind the past, experiencing horrible side effects afterwards
I might add some more in the future, but for now,Adios! -Leon

Love it or Hate it, the Ski and Snowboard “Mega” Season Pass is here to stay. – Dan Kelly
There has been much debate over the past several winters about these new “mega” season passes for skiing and snowboarding, locals hate them but many others love them.  Rather than shelling out roughly $500-$1000 for a season pass at a single resort the Epic Pass or Ikon Pass allow you access to a multitude of mountains across the globe for a fixed number of days at each resort for around the same cost.  When the price per day of skiing at some of these popular mountains is upwards of $200 daily, a $600-$1050 season pass seems like a bargain.
Tumblr media
Over the past several seasons locals have grown to hate this mega pass.  The mountains are significantly busier, there are more inexperienced skiers and boarders on more advanced mountains, bars and restaurants are more crowded, prices in the ski towns are increasing and long-term rental properties for these locals are becoming more and more difficult to afford.  Owners of these properties turn to Airbnb and VRBO to capture the effects of the rising demands and increased rental prices-a positive for the owners and negative for the locals.
The costs of the skiing & snowboarding market in the United States are unfortunately rising due to lower overall attendance and downward trending interest from new skiers and boarders.  These resorts have to cover costs and do whatever they can to maximize profits so the major players have been purchasing and consolidated large resorts across the United State.  Vail Resorts (Epic Pass) and Alterra (IKON Pass) are the two major players in the market and the mega season passes seem to be working for themselves and investors and  many of the resorts included on these passes have seen over 20% increase in revenue during the first year they join.
Tumblr media
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology although not new has really made these passes work across the U.S. and made the overall process smooth, attractive and beneficial for both users and the ski companies.  The RFID technology has allowed all these mega season pass holders to get a single card, keep it in their pocket and access all of these mountains for the allocated days without having to step foot in the ticket line.  The RFID ticket is just like an EZ pass used in a car on a toll road for the Ski Mountains.   You simply go to one of the gates in front a ski lift, walk through it and the RFID technology will scan your card in your pocket and let you go on the lift and users absolutely love it.
Tumblr media
The RFID technology also allows these big companies to gain valuable data from their skiers and snowboarders which can help them try to analyze user visits and predict their operating costs better.  It is always interesting seeing old industries using newer technologies to help advance both the user experience and the business operations.
Operating costs are extremely expensive when operating these ski mountains and any data that can be analyzed to help reduce these costs is extremely valuable.  The data collected from when skiers and snowboarders visit, how long they ski and where they ski on a mountain can help provide useful information.   The information generated, such as what are peak times, when maintenance work should be done so that lifts are not down during peak times, when and how often snow grooming is needed and also at what times to hire more workers during specific uptick in traffic periods across the season.
These affordable season passes coupled with the outreaches of social media have also attracted a massive new wave of skiers and boarders to these mountains.  Those who once would just see an advertisement or email of a mountain or hear about a great ski trip through friends are constantly seeing crazy videos of fresh powder, glades and 20-foot cliff drops.
Tumblr media
Many of these videos and images tag #IKONPASS, #AdeventureRunsDeep or #EPICforEveryone and these skiers and boarders can now see the tags in these videos, find locations and find out if these mountains are included in these season passes (many of which are).  Many have in-turn then purchased these affordable season passes and plan trips to these once unknown, secret, “locals only” locations and give all these resorts a try.  I personally bought an Ikon pass and went to Jackson Hole resort after seeing a video of someone skiing down Corbets Couloir.

Even though many of the ski bums and townies hate these season passes they are bringing thousands of new tourists to once unknown resorts.  The owners and investors as well as property and business owners and mega pass season ticket holders are loving it and the economies in these ski towns are booming.  It seems like everyone wins…minus the locals unfortunately.

Ok so I do wanna hear some Ryley headcanons because I need to develop him more in my AU and I need inspiration
i did post some a while back (right here!) but yaknow what….im in the mood for some more
-he’s an atrocious cook. do not ask him to make anything for you, you’ll regret it
-even when he does let himself rest he often ends up lying awake, worrying about things
-the blue hair dye is an alterra trend that a lot of workers picked up on, ryley being one of them (the boy just wants to fit in). even after escaping 4546B and leaving alterra he still kept dyeing it because he loved how it looked
-tends to bottle up his emotions and rarely opens up to people
-loves collecting little trinkets and the like, whether it be an actual collectible or just a cool looking rock or seashell he found on the ocean floor
-had a run-in with a reaper that nearly killed him, and now he’s absolutely terrified of them and will start to panic if he even hears one roar
-maintained a love of seafood even after the events of the game
-im begging you subnautica devs let him be happy after everything hes been through

Planet 4546B: Day 23
Ryley managed to pull an all-nighter making the Seamoth, before literally passing out in the small submarine, until the morning, which the sun had caused him to wake. He went off to the Aurora on his own.
Traveling, he remembered the experience Cyrus had near that area, which almost made him just want to turn around and leave, but he didn’t, he kept onward, listening carefully for any sounds and signs of that terrifying leviathan that had hurt the Rasporda so badly. At least he was recovering well.
Ryley decided it would be best to steer clear of the ship until he was close to the front, and upon reaching said area, he swung back around, making a U-turn, to an entrance to the Aurora.
Back in lifepod 5, Shadow was simply talking to Cyrus, who was secretly worried about Ryley, and was anxiously awaiting for his return.
Hours later, he did, and walked over to the radio, listening to the bickering Alterra workers, all over a stupid sandwich run. Ryley just scoffed after the transmission ended, mainly about having to go all the way back to the ship later. He went straight to his bed, and fell asleep immediately.
Cyrus told Shadow he was going to bed too, and got up, feeling slightly dizzy. He shrugged that off, and went to his own room, and fell asleep as well.

Mobile Bio
Name: Ryley Robinson
Occupation (Former): Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Chief                  (Current): Aquarium worker
Age: 40
Sexuality: Bisexual
Personality: Kind, reckless, calm, adaptable, optimistic
Bio (Standard): Ryley was born and raised on Alterra and set out when he grew up with the Alterra Coroporation when he was 35, setting out to space and exploring new worlds. He might have just been a maintenance chief but it was still his dream, to explore new worlds.
What he didn’t wish for, was the incident that landed him stranded on 4546B after the Aurora was taken out. Five years spent trying to survive, cure himself of the Kharaa Bacterium and try to leave the planet, he thought he could live a free life but it didn’t turn out that way. Ryley thought his troubles were over when he left that planet, leaving behind everything that tried to kill him but also his new home, it turned out he had to pay for everything he had collected and built on 4546B and he could never pay it off in his lifetime, not a trillion credits. So, in order to go around it, he went away on another expedition to try and pay it off, going away and to another planet, maybe this one wasn’t going to be so bad and try to kill him on a regular basis?

if there's one thing i don't like about below zero it's probably like,, the ending. not as in i dislike the ending itself but the fact thats so,, resolute if that makes sense??
like in the first subnautica you can just. stay. and it WORKS as an ending! you've been cured, you saved the sea emperor babies, everything is resolved or fixed as much as it can be, and you can just live there now! you don't HAVE to build the rocket and leave for the game to feel complete, you can just stay on the planet for however long you like and keep those ghosts company
but in bz you kinda,, can't? id love to stay with marg and preston, going around and learning everything about the precursor tech and finding all those logs from the alterra workers, building a base where ever i want,, but it doesnt feel like i should! because al-an! either they're stuck dying, or they're stuck in robin's head, or they're stuck waiting for you to go to the phase gate and leave with them! there's no way to just IGNORE al and still make the game feel done. i CANT stick around on the planet bc robin wants to leave with al-an and al-an needs to know what happened to the other architects, and i can't stay on the planet without thinking about al!!
i love being able to explore at that final sort of post-game (or just endgame?) but i just feel way too guilty about abandoning al-an when they already have so many problems to deal with :(
