Hearts and Choices
Pairing: Amelia Shepherd x Reader
Summary: You were offered by Yang a position that will help further your career in Cardiothoracic instead of your old specialty Plastic Surgery. However, this could mean leaving Amelia behind.
Warning: Abandonment issues (?), (idk if there’s more, but if you think so just tell me so I can add them)
Words: 1.4k
When I was offered to be the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Switzerland, as Yang would be the next Klausmann’s Director of Surgery and Head of Surgical Research, she needed my expertise and helped her manage the load. I wanted to accept it immediately, knowing this would be a big step in my career in Cardiothoracic. However, I need to talk to Amelia. I don’t want to leave her after Meredith is gone, and just last month, Maggie did too. I know how she is when the people close to her are leaving.
I met her when Addie brought me to Seattle Grace. I was with her in Seaside moonlighting. They said she did work at the seaside before, but I hadn’t caught her as she was leaving and going to Seattle to stay with her brother. We weren’t together then, just shameless flirting and almost kissing ‘til Addison interrupted us. We reconnected when Cormac and I transferred with Cristina’s arrangement for him to be Head of Peds and I Head of Cardio but become Head of Plastics instead, as apparently Maggie and Winston are in Cardio now, so I have to find a job. Thankfully, I’m triple certified in plastics before transferring my speciality to become a surgeon in Cardiothoracic. Anyway, before I bore you with my achievements from a young age. Let’s return to my big problem about telling the woman I love about my job offer.
I had just finished my surgery when I saw her about to berate Yasuda as I heard the Kid may have dropped an instrument. I know that intern has been sleeping in on-call rooms, and I wonder what her story is about, but I don’t think the kid needs a lecture. So I had to interrupt.
“Hey, Dr Yasuda and Dr Shepherd. Can I talk to you for a minute?” I said to her and pushed her to a supply room before she could reply. I gave Yasuda a look, and she nodded in appreciation. “Okay, what’s going on, babe? I saw you about to embarrass the intern in front of many nurses and probably her patients.” I asked. She was just looking at the floor and exhausted for the day. “Hey, Amy. Talk to me, babe.” I approached her and raised her head so she could look at me. “I know about the offer,” she said, trying not to look and maintain eye contact. “Oh, okay. Well, first off, why did you look at my emails? That's kinda shitty as my privacy is – “ “I didn't mean to. It was just there in front of me when I asked to use your laptop when you were in the shower,” she interrupted. “Well, you should have just showered with me, you know, and we wouldn’t have this problem,” I said, and I could see that she was hiding a smile. I held her hands and kissed them to get her to calm down. I spoke, “I was going to tell you about it later when we get home, as I don’t want to keep this a secret from you. I love you, Amelia and I want your opinion about it as it would be a huge step for my career.” “Do you want it? Are you planning to take it?” she asked. “Truthfully, it is a very tempting offer and a huge one for me, babe. I was supposed to be here for the head of Cardio, but because Maggie and Winston happened, I had to give that up and become head of Plastics.” I said. “So you are taking it,” she said as she let go of my hand and sat on the floor, trying to settle her feeling and not wanting her tears to fall. I sighed. I followed and sat near her, taking her in my arms and letting her feel me.
“I love you, Amelia. I have never loved someone so unique and complex that each waking moment I have with you is never dull and always unpredictable. When I came back here, you were with Link and also very pregnant, and I know you were happy, so I never disturbed you even when my feelings for you grew so much in the years that I finally know you. Then did you know how much it was killing me to see you being proposed to by Link on that beach? God, I thought my heart would stop, and that’s coming from a world-class cardiothoracic surgeon who knows it is a rare feat, so I left for three months. I went to see Yang and told her my predicament. I helped her in Klausmann, and I tried and tried to forget about my feelings for you, but I can’t. I told her that I had to go home. Home, even though I’m not sure where that was until I saw you performing that flawless operation on David. You were my home even if I wasn’t yours. It was always the wrong timing for us. I didn’t realise that you met Kai and, I guess, gotten to know them, and maybe you love them, but I just let it be.” “Uhmm, excuse me, but you weren’t so available yourself. You were hooking up with the new Plastics surgeon. I thought you didn’t want to do with me. I never expected that you also have feelings for me.” she said. “I know I wasn’t a saint, Amy. I am human too, and I needed people, and I hooked up with people, but you, on the other hand, were always in a relationship, so I didn’t do anything not until after a few months when I saw you in the backyard when Kai left you. I consoled you but kept my distance because I didn’t want to be your rebound.” “You are not my rebound. How many times do I have to tell you that.” “I know, Amy. I know. I just want to tell you that these past few months of being with you are never enough, Babe. I love you so much a-” “But you’re leaving. That’s what people say before they abandon me.” she interrupted again. “God, woman, let me finish.” I held her closer as if she’d run away and said,” I love you so much, and I love my job too. However, after many relationships on your part and flings from mine, I realised that I want it just to be you, and so I told Cristina that I have to talk to you about this, and here we are.” “You’re going to leave me, aren’t you? Just tell me already. Stop my suffering.” she said and hugged me tight.
“You don’t listen, huh? I love you, and I will always choose you, Amy. I’m accepting the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery but not in Zurich. I’ll be accepting it here. I will tell Yang she can offer it to Ndugu even though he shouldn’t leave the hospital. That guy is amazing with his techniques, and Maggie taught him well.” I said. “You're not leaving. You are not leaving?” she said, surprised. “I’m not leaving, baby, but I want to explore the options of having Klausmann and Grey Sloan partner, especially with Cardiothoracic research. Cristina owes me some favours. Maybe she and I can talk about it as well as Teddy. Though I have to talk to Winston and maybe persuade him not to leave and instead be my co-chief.” I said out loud. “Thank you, and I love you. I do.” She said, kissing me passionately as if we didn’t need air to breathe.
We got interrupted when someone walked in, “seriously, you two? Not again.” Addison said. Amelia and I laughed, and I said, amused, “Why is it always you, Addie?” “I don’t know, and I hate you two.” She said and left the room. I got up carrying Amelia with me. I settled her down and said, “We’ll be okay, love. I love you, and I’m staying.”
After the missed opportunities of being with the woman I love, I don’t think I’ll ever leave now that I have the taste of it. I love her and Scout and my profession, so I guess I made the right choice.

Below the cut are TEN upcoming fics (aka all the fics currently in drafts/requested) ! Some at the top of the list are mostly-ish written but most are not & it is just vibes atm - pls feel free to share any ideas or direction to go in or prompts or what you'd like to see !! Also may not come out in this order, my brain changes focus v easily.
'It's Not What It Looks Like' - Eloise Bridgerton x Reader
Reader and Eloise are trying to keep their relationship on the down low but it is difficult to do when you have a nosy family.
2. 'Blown Away' - Amelia Shepherd x Reader
Reader works for the FBI. Amelia Shepherd would rather not have her girlfriend arrive at the hospital after a mission goes wrong but... here we are.

Clara can't stop herself from flirting with Reader - yes, even when being chased by aliens that are... made of fire ????
4. 'Come Home' (Go Home, pt. 2) - Eloise Bridgerton x Reader
Things are redeemable and anything is doable - especially when it is true love, right?

7. 'The Artist's Assistant' - Eloise Bridgerton x Reader
Reader's husband is out of the country with his mistress and, whilst he is gone, has requested a painting be made of his wife. The artist is nice enough but it is the artist's assistant that really catches Reader's eye.

Hey besties.
So thanks to an influx of new followers and from different fandoms and interesting requests I’ve been getting I figured it was needed to repost this.
Things I WILL NOT write for:
-Non con or even CNC
-Age gaps. (Realistic ones are fine. But i refuse to do 18 year old super genius yn who graduated Harvard already and 40+ year old character falls in love with them).
-Basically YN under the age of 30. I’m in my mid 30’s and most people in the industries that my fics involve would be in that age rage, or late 20’s at best if you’re looking under, go elsewhere.
-Underage yn’s. If you want a fic where yn is the chlld this is NOT the place.
-stories involving losing virginities. While i may write someones first experience with the the same sex, or a specific style, i do not write virgin characters
-pregnant y/n’s. It’s very rare I will accept requests involving pregnancy
-Male yn’s. Nothing against it but as a female, esp when it comes to smut I’m uncomfortable writing it.
-Same goes for medical conditions. There are certain that I am familiar with or are easier to research or I have close friends who can give insight to, otherwise i feel like I’m not doing it justice and also dont want to offend. Dm or send an ask if you have specific questions.
WHO I Write For:
(just because there is someone on my masterlist does not mean i still write for them. i only write this list.)
Law and Order(SVU/OC/ OG)
-Rita Calhoun, Casey Novak, Elizabeth Donnelly, Alex Cabot, Grace Muncy, Tonie Churlish, Melinda Warner, Pippa Cox, Sonya Paxton, Amanda Rollins, Peter Stone, Mike Dodds, Joe Velasco, Sonny Carisi, Rafael Barba, Terry Bruno.
-Ayanna Bell, Samantha Maroun
-Calex, Barhoun, Calvak, Novelly, Benhoun.
Criminal Minds:
Emily Prentiss, Derek Morgan, Alex Blake, Tara Lewis, Aaron Hotchner
House of Cards:
Heather Dunbar, Jackie Sharp
-Duckie (heather x jackie)
Homeland:
Elizabeth Keane
Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice:

YET ANOTHER long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching grey’s anatomy for the first time (season FIFTEEN, bc i’m actually not sick of these yet)
-i don’t like this whole “she’s not really your sister” thing. like, it’s played for comedic effect and teddy is clearly just hormonal and panicking so whatever but i don’t like that.
-i don’t want to rehash owen x amelia. yawn. nor do i want to rehash owen x teddy. yawner.
-i like that we’re getting a *little* deeper into helms crush on meredith and that it’s not just comic relief
-why are there no doctors above the age of 45 in this entire hospital besides richard? they’re all so pretty, but at what cost?
-something is going to happen to this pregnant nurse… there’s a lot of focus on her out of the blue
-i love that almost this entire intern class is at least mildly gay
-bailey is pissing me off
-ted mosby!!! he looks a little slovenly for a date tbh. not to sound judgmental but like, she’s all dressed up and he isn’t.
-this guy is way chiller than ted mosby. i like this for her. i hope it doesn’t turn out really bad but i know it probably will
-is it worth it to watch station 19?? i kind of don’t want to tbh
-i forgot teddy was in new york until her friend passed in 9/11. i’m imagining an au in which teddy and addison knew each other in NYC in the 90s bc i think they should’ve interacted more
-the undiagnosable stomach issue is so clearly this patient’s suspicious heirloom lunch pail. like, duh.
-okay well i was wrong about that and now i’m embarrassed that i predicted that with such smug sureness and authority.
-playing “chasing cars” in spanish for the día de los muertos episode is an interesting choice. i think i like it??
-nurse debbie!!!! it’s been a while
-okay nvm that is NOT nurse debbie. they just have the same bangs
-everyone gets to have a tumor on this show. YOU get a tumor! YOU get a tumor!! and YOU get a tumor!!!
-richard no :(
-RICHARD, NO >:(
-as much as i hate the owen/amelia dynamic, i really LOVE this whole amelia and betty thing
-i DO NOT like meredith/deluca
-the only relationship that doesn’t completely bore or frustrate me right now is alex/jo but even then, they’re just kind of there, yk?
-i love that meredith has one format of outfit that she likes and that works for her and she sticks to it. relatable AF.
-why didn’t miranda just have a conversation with ben before she sprung the separation on him? he would have been more than understanding i think
-i really like teddy and koracick actually
-i’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop with betty :(
-did they change out writers and/or show runners?? the writing feels… cheesier almost? or maybe just like the emotional beats are less earned? i mean it’s always been delightfully soapy but it’s just different these past couple of seasons and i can’t put my finger on it
-betty/britney’s mom is baby from dirty dancing?????!!!!!
-alex just straight up not being able to understand the scottish accents is so fucking funny.
-i love it when bokhee has lines
-“it’s a real fire!!” alex, gleefully and wrapped in a homemade knit scarf while indoors
-richards reaction to they/them pronouns is very interesting and i think it’s definitely an accurate portrayal of how even the generally accepting and well meaning older people can sometimes struggle with that kind of stuff. like, he’s not trying to be ignorant or rude he’s just genuinely perplexed. “the world moves fast and i’m just trying to keep up”
-i SWEAR TO GOD if teddy gets back with owen instead of staying with tom i will start hitting things
-“you suffered for years bc of my brother so you should totally get together and move in with him”- megan hunt in a wig that’s almost as terrible as her advice
-nancy!!!
-the shepherd family dynamic is so interesting to me because we’ve heard about it from two different perspectives over the years (derek’s and things amelia has said mostly in PP) and what we’ve seen of them is mostly from derek and meredith’s perspective in which they seem nice if a bit overbearing.
-okay jeez kathleen is a piece of work. i’ve always liked nancy even though she is “mcbitchy”. i also can’t help but to think about how addison fit into all of this when she and derek were married lol.
-has amelia ever told her family about christopher?
-stop trying to push owen and teddy on me!!!! i hate it!!
-that is insurance fraud babe. is there not a way for them to do it pro bono or something??
-okay i can sense that teddy and owen is going to happen so i will not make any more notes about it bc all i have to say about it is some variation of “no! i hate it!”
-okay i lied because the way teddy is going about it makes me deeply upset. poor tom. also “he makes me laugh and feel safe but i don’t feel rage or passion or ecstasy” ????? i should hope you don’t feel rage??? owen hunt makes me enraged too but that doesn’t mean i want to kiss him on the mouth!!! jesus christ. just fuck tom i guess, right?
-WOAH. i was not vibing with merluca but he’s willing to go to prison for her??!!!
-there’s no way they’re really fired . meredith owns a good chunk of the hospital still, right??? not to mention there’s maybe three characters on this show that *haven’t* committed crimes/major ethical violations.
-i’ve been beefing with jackson for a few seasons now tbh

………………………………………………………………...
Jo barely listened to her mother-in-law's words as Helen spoke to comfort her. Yet nothing Helen said reassured her. All Jo could think about was Alex as she tried to figure out where he was. Helen said she hadn't seen Alex for weeks and thought that he had gone home to her after helping to fix the roof.
“Oh I'm sorry dear I'm rambling again,” Helen said as she paused, and Jo came back to the conversation when the silence ran on.
“It's just been a long day,” Jo said, letting out a breath and wishing she could let out all of her worries with it but they stuck inside her stomach like she swallowed a bottle of glue.
“But I'm sure Alex has a good reason for being away and perhaps his phone just isn't working,” Helen said, trying to stay cheerful in her explanation.
“Yeah, thanks,” Jo said, although she barely heard what Helen had said.
“Well, I'll let you go, dear and I'll call Alex and tell him to talk to his wife,” Helen said as if a scolding from his mother could make Alex reappear in her life.
“Thank you, Helen,” Jo said as she tried to think of anything else to say but the words evaded her.
“Well I hope you do call again soon, I love you,” Helen said, sincere in a way that a mother would be.
“Yeah, love you too, bye,” Jo said as she quickly hung up the phone.
She stared at the screen again. It was a picture of her and Alex and she quickly pulled up his number again, but she hovered her finger over the call button. There was a list of calls going to Alex and she was sure his voicemail was full by now, yet she still felt the urge to leave him one more message.
Jo stared at the other thing sitting in front of her, the ultrasound photo she had gotten that evening from Carina. She had insisted upon it and all but forced Jo into her office to at least take a pregnancy test. Jo e has suspected she was pregnant but hadn't taken a test as she was more worried about her husband. There was something about seeing her baby that made everything so real and terrifying. Without Alex, this was all the more complicated and she couldn't do this without him. She didn't want to. Yet here she was, faced with that possibility.
Jo let out a breath again, this one shaky and nearly filled with tears but she had none left to cry as there was no water left in her eyes. So she just stared at the ultrasound and her phone, waiting for the universe to send her a sign. Suddenly there was the sound of someone stomping the snow off their feet and coming up the stairs. Jo leaped up, there it was, there was Alex, he was home. She ran to answer the door, pulling it open with hopefulness in her heart, however, it quickly disappeared when she saw Link.
His black jacket was covered in snow and he was holding a bag and a box of donuts. His mood was as depressing as hers was. He frowned and came into the loft without waiting for her to invite him in.
“Misery loves company, so I brought donuts and despair,” Link said as he passed her without a second glance and he went over to the kitchen.
Jo looked back at him as her mind swirled. Where was Alex? Why wasn't that him at the door? What would happen to her without him? The disappointment nearly drowned her like a wave. Link put the donuts down on the kitchen counter and finally noticed her still standing in the entryway.
“Jo ?”
“I, I thought you were him,” Jo said, and she didn't need to say who for Link to know she was talking about Alex.
Link sighed and looked over at her with a frown. “I'm sorry.”
“He left me,” Jo said looking around at his empty place in the loft, believing he was gone.
“No, he didn't,” Link said, quickly reassuring her like everybody had done the past few days.
They all told her over and over again that Alex wouldn't leave her, that he wasn't like that. Everybody from Meredith to Link to Owen and Jackson has said the same thing. But Jo wasn't sure of their reassurance, and she truly didn't believe it now.
“I think he did, I think he woke up one day and felt the need to escape his life… and me. I called his mom,” Jo said, finally looking at Link for the first time and taking a step toward him. “He wasn't there. He hasn't been there in weeks. And I’m, I'm pregnant. And I can't do this without him. He left me… pregnant... And now I can't, I can't breathe.”
Jo gasped for breath, struggling to take in air as she broke down again. She started to cry, letting herself fall apart as she dissolved into tears. Link rushed over and hugged her, sweeping her into his arms and stopping her from falling to her knees as he held her. She cried, and cried, and cried. That's all she could do because Alex was gone and she was pregnant. All she wanted was her husband, but she didn't have him. She knew the baby in her belly needed her, but Jo couldn't do this without him. She was so scared and she couldn't breathe.
Somehow Link carried her to bed and wrapped his arms around her as she cried. The tears took the rest of her energy as she cried herself to sleep, knowing that tomorrow wouldn't be any better.
………………………………………………………………...
“I missed you.”
The words drifted into Jo's sleep and gently woke her. She felt warmth against her cheek as a pair of lips kissed her.
“Alex,” Jo whispered, opening her eyes to see his brown eyes as his lips gave her a gentle smile.
“I love you,” Alex said, kissing her again, this time on her lips as Jo closed her eyes and kissed him back sleepily
“Go back to sleep,” Alex said, pulling back and kissing her cheek again. “I'm going to sleep on the couch but I'll be here when you wake up.”
“Okay,” Jo mumbled, closing her eyes again, already half asleep surrounded by his warmth.
She fell asleep again all too quickly and dreamed of Alex and their baby playing in the loft. Their baby laughed and played with cars on the rug. Jo laughed too as she sat in Alex's lap as he held her from behind, his warm arms around her. She woke up with the same warmth surrounding her and she smiled, feeling Alex's arms around her waist.
As she rolled over and buried her nose into his chest, she took a deep breath in, however, she didn't smell Alex. She opened her eyes and realized that it was Link curled up against her and snoring rather loudly. The smell of his cologne burned her sinuses and made her nauseous as she wrinkled her nose and rolled away.
‘Where's Alex?’ Jo thought as she blinked and looked around. He should be here, she thought as she got up, sitting up and looking around. But it was just the two of them and no one else was there. Jo threw off the covers and got up, quickly walking in a circle around the loft as she looked everywhere for Alex.
However, there wasn't even evidence that he'd been there. The couch was the same with the blankets and pillows as she had been sleeping there the past couple of nights. She went to the entryway and looked for his shoes, his bag, his coat, anything, but none of it was there. Jo went to the bathroom only to see his toothbrush was there, untouched in the cup. Even the shower was dry and only her towels hung on the rack. She checked the laundry hamper only to find the same emptiness.
“Alex, where are you?” Jo called out to him as she came back out to the empty loft.
She ducked into the kitchen to see but there was nothing other than her mac and cheese plates in the sink. Jo nearly cried as she looked around desperate to find him.
“What's going on Jo?” Link asked with a yawn as he stretched. “Alex's not here? What are you doing?”
“He was here!” Jo insisted, going over to him. “I remember waking up in the middle of the night and he kissed me and he was home. He was home.”
Link looked around seeing the same empty loft that she did. “Jo, you must have dreamed about him.”
“No, it was real,” Jo begged herself to believe it.
Jo pulled out her phone and looked at her last text messages from him. The last one was just the text message she had sent him of the picture of the pregnancy test. There was nothing, not even a reply. She quickly texted Meredith to see if she had heard from him. Surely she would have heard from Alex if he was back. Meredith texted back quickly that she hadn't heard from him either. Jo was devastated and she sank down onto the couch. She held her phone as she stared out into nothing.
“I'm sorry, Jo,” Link said as he sat down next to her putting an arm around her shoulders.
“Yeah,” Jo nodded, not really hearing him as she put her phone away and curled up, pulling up her legs and leaning back against the couch.
“Why don't I get us breakfast?” Link said, getting up before she responded, although she didn't stop them either.
Jo just sat on the couch and turned on the TV so there was something to do, something to listen to other than the emptiness in her heart. Soon enough she heard the coffee maker starting up and she knew Link was turned on a pan and she heard him rumbling around in the kitchen. He was the only one who could actually cook.
But then, the loft door opened.
Link looked up in surprise and Jo turned around to see the door slide open as Alex walked in. She was so stunned she just sat there and stared at him.
“Hey,” Alex said, greeting her with a smile before he looked over at Link. “Oh sorry, I was trying to surprise you.”
Alex held up the coffee tray and a bag from their favorite breakfast place. The loft was completely silent as Jo and Link just stared at him. Neither of them believed that he was standing there in front of him. Alex looked around at the both of them confused as to why his appearance was such a shock.
“I guess I should have left a note or something.” He barely got that last word out before Jo was flinging herself into his arms as she started crying in relief. She was pretty sure some of the coffee splashed on her, but she doesn't care. “I take it you really missed me.”
“I thought you left me,” Jo said as she held onto him, afraid he’d slip through her fingers again. “You didn't respond to my texts or calls, I haven’t heard from you in days and I thought you left!”
“I'm sorry, I'm sorry,” Alex said as he struggled to put down the coffee on the side table before he wrapped both of his arms around her as she held him close.
“I'm pregnant,” Jo whispered to him.
“I know,” Alex said, a little smile appearing across his lips as he kissed her forehead. “As soon as I saw your text I hopped on a plane and came home, I’m sorry. Everything in Iowa has been so much to deal with, but I can sort it out later. You need me more now.”
“Where's your bag and everything? I looked around for your stuff and nothing was there?” Jo said as she settled in his arms and relief filled her.
“I left my bag in my car last night, I was so tired and I just wanted to see you,” Alex said, as he pulled back and held her face with one hand looking at her with deep adoration.
Jo just nodded as she cried and Alex brushed away her tears with his thumb. She leaned in and kissed him again. Alex eagerly greeted her as she melted into him, feeling like she had her home back.
“You stop returning my calls, asshole. Don’t you can't ever do that again!” Jo said, pulling back as she hit his chest.
“I won't, I promise,” Alex said, sincere with his words as he looked deep into her eyes.
“And you are never going anywhere without me,” Jo said, tears still filling her eyes.
“That's fine by me,” Alex said, leaning in and kissing her again.
“I'm just going to let you two be,” Link said, grabbing a coffee and peeking in the bag and pulling out a donut before he left.
Jo and Alex barely acknowledged him and their kiss got heated as they reunited. Alex trailed his hands down her waist as Jo tangled her hands in his hair. However, Alex's destination was not her hips as his fingers ghosted across her stomach before he pulled back. He put his hands over his bump, feeling the outline of it in his hands.
“Oh my God, Jo ,” Alex said with wide eyes looking up at her. “When you said you were pregnant, I didn't think you were this far along. If I had known I never would have…”
He trailed off as Jo leaned in and kissed him again before she leaned her forehead against his. “It's okay, I didn't know until last night. You're here now and that's what matters.”
Alex nodded, leaned in and quickly kissed her again as he held her bump. “You've got to be at least 12 weeks along by now.”
“What no,” Jo said, shaking her head as she looked down at her stomach. “There's no way. I just found out yesterday it must be your big headed baby making its appearance.”
“I wouldn't be so sure about that. Wasn't your last period like 3 months ago?” Alex asked, raising an eyebrow at her with a sneaky little smile.
“No, it was…” Jo trailed off as she tried to remember and quickly did the math in her head as her eyes went wide. “7 weeks ago.”
“So you're at least 9 weeks along,” Alex said with a little smile.
“I guess so,” Jo said a little in awe as she looked down at her bump.
Alex got down on his knees, pulling up her shirt as he revealed her skin to his eyes. Then he leaned in and pressed a kiss to her belly. Jo smiled as she ran her fingers through his hair. He looked up at her with so much love in his eyes. He would continue to stare at her that way and kiss her bump as it grew bigger, until their baby was born. And true to her word, she never let him travel without her again.

Up for it, always! I can totally picture these two having some fun together, if the time were right. The problem, as it turned out, is... it never were. I checked the entire timeline, as the canon girl I am, only to find out that there are NO fitting moments:
Carina's introduced at the start of s14, hooking up with Arizona from the start. At that time, Amelia's married to Owen. Their marriage was a wreck, with them being separated for most of it (the brain tumor days), and they pulled the plug around the same time Carina and Arizona seemed to be over.
But right then, at 14x6, (Amelia slept with Tom and) Carina and Owen hooked up (with Amelia catching Carina naked in her kitchen 😄), which lasted for a few eps (till 14x8?). Short after, at 14x12, Arizona and Carina started flirting again, then got back together (14x14) until Arizona finale broke it off… during the same ep in which Amelia and Owen got back together (14x21).
Carina left to Italy after 15x04, returning at 15x15. During this whole period Amelia was (still) with Owen, albeit a little on and off again, as they were playing house with Leo and Betty. Amelia ended it at 15x15, which could be great timing considering Carina's return…. yet Amelia started rebounding with Link at 15x16! And though they weren't that serious at that time, to me they seemed to be focused on just each other (no side dishes), until the threesome proposal at 16x02 with - drum roll - Carina.
Yet that's when Amelia turned out to be pregnant, with Link still being around and no indication she/they ever hooked up with Carina, and Carina just very much being her doctor (doing ultrasounds etc), besides - and more importantly - starting to date Maya soon after.
During Carina and Maya's short break-up (end of s16/s3), Amelia was (still) with Link, with Carina actually being there to deliver their baby. (Not exactly the kind of "seeing her naked parts" we're thinking of here, I assume 🤣).
With Carina and Maya being steady for over 2 seasons, the next and last opportunity might have happened during their s19/s6 break, but at that time Amelia and Kai were still together (damn it 😉). And (in this case) unfortunately Carina and Maya were just dating again when Amelia got dumped by Kai. And with that my last (canon) option was out of the window…
So, long story short:
the only kind-of moment they were both single (though Amelia still being officially married) was between 14x9 and 14x11 - and you have to agree with me that it wouldn't really look good on either of them to hook up at that time, considering that already messy situation.
(Besides all that, there's also the fact that Carina still calls Amelia Dr. Shepherd at 16x02 which sounds weird to me if they'd had something going on before… though I guess that's something I could "forget", as the actual writers do so all the time 🙊)
Now of course there are always options left (making one of them cheat, go for a timejump in which Maya is out of the picture, a simple rejection), but none of them sounds very fluffy to me. So unless I'm overlooking something here, I'm afraid we have to save this one for.... who knows when. Whenever it is tough, I'll be the first one writing them - you've got my word on that one! 😁)

Poor Owen
Owen Hunt paced nervously in the supply closet as he closed the door behind him. He ran his fingers through his hair, his mind racing with all the thoughts of his fiancée Amelia Shepherd. She was five months pregnant with the twins, and with each passing day, she became more and more attractive to him. Owen couldn't resist her, but with the babies on the way, their sex life had taken a backseat.

He couldn't remember the last time they had been intimate, and the constant desire and arousal he felt towards her was becoming unbearable. He needed some release, even if it was just for a few minutes. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, scrolling through the pictures of Amelia that he had saved just for this purpose.

As he leaned against the shelves, his hand moved down to his pants, his fingers eagerly undoing the button and zipper. He closed his eyes and let out a deep breath as he began to stroke himself, imagining Amelia's soft lips on his skin, her long fingers exploring his body.

Just as he was about to reach his climax, he heard the door to the supply closet creak open. He froze, his heart racing in his chest as he quickly tried to put himself back together. His eyes widened in horror as he realized that he was still holding his phone, which displayed a very explicit image of Amelia.

He frantically tried to press the lock button, but it was too late. Amelia, with her round belly and radiant glow, stood in front of him, her eyes taking in the whole scene. Owen could feel the heat rising to his cheeks and his arousal quickly fading away.

'Owen, what are you doing in here?' Amelia asked, her tone a mix of confusion and amusement.

Owen's mind raced as he tried to come up with a plausible excuse. 'Uh, I was just…looking for some supplies,' he stuttered, hoping that she would buy it.

Amelia arched an eyebrow as she looked around the closet. 'In the dark, with your phone out?' she asked, her eyes flickering to his now flaccid member.

Owen closed his eyes, cursing himself for not being more discreet. 'I…I was just taking a break,' he finally admitted, feeling embarrassed and exposed under her gaze.

Amelia's lips twitched, trying to hold back a smirk. 'Taking a break?' she repeated, her tone teasing.

Owen swallowed, feeling a mix of arousal and fear at her reaction. 'Yes, I…' he started before stopping himself, knowing that he couldn't tell her the truth.

Amelia walked over to him and placed a hand on him. Her hand then moved from his arm to his crotch, causing Owen to tense up. 'You don't have to hide it from me, Owen. I know how much you love me, and it's reciprocal,' she whispered, her lips brushing against his ear.

Owen's breath hitched as he felt her fingers dance over his pants, brushing against his already sensitive skin. 'Amelia, please, I can't take it,' he pleaded, his body trembling with need.

Amelia's lips curved into a mischievous smile as she pulled her hand away. 'As much as I would love to finish what you started, I don't think the supply closet is the best place for it,' she purred, her words causing a delicious ache in Owen's abdomen.

He groaned in frustration as Amelia turned and walked out of the closet, leaving him standing there with a case of blue balls. He quickly composed himself and cleaned up the evidence of his arousal before walking out of the closet, his mind still reeling from the teasing encounter with Amelia.

For the rest of the day, Owen couldn't focus on anything else but the throbbing between his legs, each movement and thought reminding him of the orgasm that never came. He couldn't wait for the day to be over so he could finally go home and be with Amelia, and this time, he promised himself, he wouldn't let anything or anyone get in the way of their pleasure.

Presley was not a planned pregnancy. Given her mother’s past, it’s understandable that the woman wouldn’t have wanted to tempt fate. However, when Amelia had found out that she was pregnant, something within her had whispered that she should keep the baby. That not everything would turn out horribly wrong. And that voice was mostly right. The pregnancy had gone smoothly and there had been nothing in any prenatal appointments that had pointed to any sort of issue or reason to be concerned. And then had come the labor and delivery when things had gone a little sideways. The umbilical cord had become wrapped around Presley’s neck leading to an emergency c-section and a lot of lost blood for her mother. But by the end of that, a healthy mom and a healthy baby had made their way home. Presley was a bright, excitable, easily entertained child. One who experienced none of the trauma and horrors that her mother had when she was younger. She grew up loved and cherished, with her interests being respected and acknowledged. She was always given opportunities to flourish and when she ended up falling short, she wasn’t berated but was rather given new chances to grow. She found a place in the dramatic arts, beginning in a kindergarten play when she had the role of a lamb all the way through to her college years when she was cast as the female lead in the musical productions taking place. It was through the stage that she felt as though she found her calling; even if she didn’t have the state of mind to aim for Broadway. Currently attending the Cornish College of the Arts, Presley hopes to eventually teach Drama to instill a love of performing in others the way it had grown for her.

and take the long-simmering job working for the president. Watch ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Patrick Dempsey’s 10 Best McDreamy MomentsĪfter a stretch of bickering between Meredith and Derek, things in the midseason finale escalated to the point where they agreed that it would be best for him to head to D.C. Eventually, a confident Amelia (and Stephanie) saved Herman’s life - but at a cost: her vision, ending the star fetal surgeon’s career. Following her split with Callie, Arizona threw herself into work and broke down Herman’s rough exterior - and ultimately told Amelia about Herman’s secret. Nicole Herman arrived in Seattle with a chip on her shoulder and a big secret: She had an inoperable brain tumor and six months to live. Those flashbacks were instrumental in Derek’s death, as Meredith recalled the similar experience of police arriving at her home. Subsequent flashbacks also revealed Meredith recalling that her mother was in two hospitals: one when Maggie was born and a second when Ellis tried to commit suicide. In the season premiere, flashbacks revealed how Ellis gave birth to baby Maggie before she moved from Boston to Seattle with little Meredith. One of the better aspects of season 11 has been how Grey’s has honored its past. Ellis attempted suicide when Meredith was little. Read more How ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Broght Kate Burton’s Ellis Back to LifeĤ. As of now, they’re starting to date other people. Arizona, on the other hand, had the opposite reaction and realized just how great her life with Callie was. The resulting in-home separation ended with Callie realizing that she didn’t want to mend the marriage and wanted to break free of her codependence and regain her individuality. In an episode that spanned 30 days, Callie ( Sara Ramirez) and Arizona ( Jessica Capshaw) hit couples therapy in a bid to work out their issues. But still, Meredith’s new “person” has the thing that Mer fears the most. Granted, this played as a bit of an uplifting moment when Maggie learned that her late biological mother, Ellis ( Kate Burton), was the one with the Alzheimer’s gene - so she didn’t get it from her father, Richard. Maggie has the genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s. (Let’s just hope she’s not pregnant after their final tryst, because - seriously - that could make Derek’s death even more depressing than it already is.)Ģ. This one is a fundamental change that opens the door to bring back a dark and twisty Meredith - who is now a widowed mother of two. Showrunner Rhimes said in a statement following Dempsey’s exit episode that she “never imagined saying goodbye” to the show’s “ McDreamy” - and neither did longtime Grey’s fans (and MerDer ‘shippers). Read more ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star on Patrick Dempsey’s Departure: It’s a “Fundamental Change” And while, yes, the show has been a downer of late, as Rhimes has been prone to say: TV gets boring when everyone is happy, and Grey’s is, after all, a drama. Chief among them was Maggie’s relationship with her then-unknown father, Richard ( James Pickens Jr.), and Meredith.Īhead of Derek’s funeral on this Thursday’s episode, here are 11 ways Grey’s Anatomy‘s 11th season has been its most depressing yet. Of course, Cristina’s departure opened the door for the long-running series finally to introduce Mer’s half sister, Maggie (new series regular Kelly McCreary) and to bring Derek’s sister Amelia ( Private Practice alum Caterina Scorsone) to Grey Sloan full time, which provided multiple stories to explore. The season opened on a downer, with Meredith ( Ellen Pompeo) and company getting used to life without Cristina Yang, following co-star Sandra Oh‘s decision to exit the series after season 10. See more ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Famous Departures Season 11 of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy may go down as the Shonda Rhimes medical drama’s most depressing yet, following the death of leading man Derek “ McDreamy” Shepherd ( Patrick Dempsey).

amelia in season 16 telling Link she is pregnant but not in the stairwell
I'll Be Here
A/N: Thanks for the prompt, I've had this one a few times now but I was stuck on what to write because I think the way she told him was completely Amelia! But, I hope you enjoy! Sorry it's short and not great, I've been lacking motivation.
Amelia had been stood outside his apartment door for the past 20 minutes. She's surprised that he hadn't noticed someone was out here with the number of times she'd paced up and down the small corridor.
She hadn't planned on ever having to have this conversation, not after last time but, here she was.
After some convincing, Amelia knocked on the door.
"Oh, hey!" Link smiled as he saw her, "Did we have plans?"
"No but I just... need to be with someone." her voice was quiet, fingers tapping on her palms.
Link smiles softly, opening the door further, "Come in."
After getting her a drink, Link had sat on the couch next to Amelia. She hadn't said anything, just leant her head on his shoulder and turned her attention to the movie Link had already gotten half way through. He wrapped his arm around her, fingertips softly tracing circles on her arm as they sat in comfortable silence.
"I'm pregnant." she whispers, not taking her eyes off the tv.
Link's eyes widen, turning his head slowly towards hers, "You're what-"
"Pregnant." Amelia whispers again, "Yeah. So, all that bloating and feeling sick and telling you that your coffee smelt disgusting did actually mean something but I just... didn't notice. Carina did. She thought I knew buuuuut I just thought it was my birth control messing me up or we were just going out to eat too much. But nope... pregnant."
Link notices the tears in her eyes as she lifts her head to look at him. Not knowing what to say, having not processed the information yet, he holds her closer against him.
"Are you... Are you okay? You know, with your history." Link asks quietly, still in shock.
Amelia laughs sarcastically, "I don't know. I'm terrified. And kind of mad. Not at you just, I can't believe this happened."
"We were careful!" Link says, "Well, clearly not careful enough!"
Link pouts sympathetically, running his fingers through her hair gently. His free hand moves over to where hers were nervously fiddling. "Have you uhm, thought about what you want to do?"
Amelia shakes her head, a stray tear falling down her cheek, "I don't know if I can do this. Being pregnant... I can't even begin to explain how terrifying it is. And, I don't want to put you in a position where you feel trapped, we're very new and we never even talked about-"
"No no no, Amelia." Link sits up, taking hold of both her hands in his, thumbs caressing her fingers softly, "Whatever you want to do, whatever you need to do, I will be here to support you. Sure, I'm scared but... I can't even start to imagine how scary this must be for you and I would never want you to do anything that is going to hurt you. If you want to have this baby, I'll be right here and we'll do it together, I'll do everything I can to make you feel comfortable. If you don't want to go through with this pregnancy, I'll be here by your side every step of the way. You're not going to be alone, no matter what you decide. I just need you to be okay."
Amelia smiles weakly as tears continue rolling down her face slowly. She lets out a deep breath that she hadn't realised she was holding. He always knew what to say and she couldn't be more thankful for that.
"Amelia, I promise, whatever you want to do, I'll be by your side."
"Thank you." Amelia wipes her eyes, "Thank you for understanding."
"You wanna talk about it?" Link asks, knowing that talking sometimes helps Amelia to calm down.
Amelia shakes her head, sniffling, "Can we just sit here?"
Link nods and sits back against the couch. He reaches his arm around her shoulders and pulls her in closer. She leans her head on his chest one again, an arm resting on his abdomen. Link places a kiss on her head, holding her close as they descend into a comfortable silence once again.
"We're gonna be okay, I promise."

Wonders Of Light
ONE-SHOT AU
Amelia Shepherd, a famous neurosurgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial. She is living a happy life with her 4-year-old adoptive daughter Pippa and her boyfriend Atticus Lincoln, who's an incredible Orthopedic surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial too. The three of them live a happy life until one night everything changes in a few minutes.
(Amelia was never working in LA, so everything that happened in Private Practice has nothing to do with this story. Amelia only is a former alcoholic, she never did drugs)
TW: Mentioning of Blood (in the story is also a second warning marked!!!)
September 9th, 2020
It was a normal morning for the family of three. Link's alarm went off at 6.30 am like it did every morning.
He leaned over his daughter who came over during the night, to visit her parents and fell asleep between the two, with one hand on her mommy and the other on her daddy.
He leaned over Pippa and softly poked his girlfriend Amelia in the side.
"Good morning butterfly, it's time to wake up. When did my little princess come into our bed?" He softly said to Amelia.
"5 more minutes Link," she responded to him.
"Okay, 5 more minutes. When I'm back from the bathroom it's time to get up."
Link got out of bed and looked back for a second, while he saw his girlfriend and daughter still laying in their big bed with the dark blue bed sheets.
Pippa still laying on her back, with her right hand still on Amelia's hip and her other hand where Link had laid a few seconds prior.
Amelia's POV:
I knew from the moment on, when Link's alarm went off, that something was different. I could feel that my period would start later today because I always had those stupid cramps the night before or in the morning of the day I would get them...
As I promised Link, that I would get up when he came back out of the bathroom, I turned around to my sweet baby girl who had climbed into our bed at 2 am and started stroking her left cheek with my pointer finger.
So great... Not the best day to get them. Because I had a very important surgery later at around 2 pm.
This already gave me enough stress and now this crap. Life sucked today.
She slowly opened her eyes and looked at me with her beautiful and still sleepy ocean blue eyes.
"Good morning sweetheart. Did you sleep well?" I asked her.
"Yea, where's Daddy?" she asked me.
"He's already in the bathroom. We are the next to go there."
Link came out of our bathroom, so I and Pippa were the next, so we slowly rolled out of bed and walked hand in hand in it, to get ready for the day.
The girls made themselves ready, will Link already went down to make breakfast.
Amelia brought Pippa down into the kitchen so that she already could start eating her breakfast, will Amelia ran up again, to put a pad into her panty just in case, if her period would start, right when she is standing in an OR, operating on an open spine.
She went back down to join her little family. The cramps were still there.
Will Link was dropping Pippa off at daycare, Amelia was already changed into her scrubs, will she was standing at the nurse's station on the neuro floor. Will, she again went over the file of her patient, who had a tumor dangerously located near his spinal cord.
It was still around 5 hours until the surgery, but with the discomfort, she was feeling in her lower region she had to distract herself.
At around 1 pm she gladly was doing much better. So she took the 40 minutes she still had left before the surgery, to eat lunch with her boyfriend in the cafeteria.
Amelia's operation went perfectly. She was able to dissect the dangerous located tumor from the men's spine, without paralyzing him.
She slowly scrubbed in at 1.50 pm. The cramping was still there, but still no evidence of her period.
So Amelia went to do her favorite thing. Operating on someone.
She was exhausted after standing in that OR for nearly 5 1/2 hours.
She scrubbed out and grabbed a tablet to write her report from the surgery.
She looked at her apple watch that Link got her last Christmas and shockingly saw that it was already 8.30 pm.
Her shift had ended already 30 minutes ago. Link and Pippa would be patiently waiting for her at home.
Pippa would most likely already be deep asleep, dreaming of something sweet. But still, someone would be waiting for her.
So she wrote down the last few words of her report until she saved the file, to continue tomorrow, only the last few details were missing.
She would hopefully find some time in between clipping two aneurysms.
She finally went back into her office to look thru her bag for a little tablet to relieve her pain, at least a little. She grabbed a bottle of water and took the medication.
She went out of her office to go to the nurse's station to give one of the nurses her tablet. She then again turned around to go back to her office.
But she took a quick stop at the restroom. From the intensity of her cramps, she was almost 99 percent sure that her period was there, but after checking, there was nothing. She peed which gave her a little relief and then got out of the room to wash her hands.
Her next steps were going to change out of her navy blue scrubs and into her normal street clothes before she wrote Link that she was on her way back home.
Jumping in her silver BMW she directly drove to their small house they bought less than a year ago after they officially were Pippa's Mommy and Daddy on paper.
She grabbed her house key and went into the house.
She arrived at the small house in which only the lights in their kitchen and living room were shinning.
Link was either cooking in their kitchen or sitting on their sofa and watching the 174 baseball game.
Link was standing in their kitchen with an apron around his waist.
To Amelia's astonishment, Link was not sitting on their sofa.
But the TV was playing a baseball game.
"You are finally here. I thought you were kidnapped or so" he said. "I made us chicken casserole with spinach, you must be hungry and exhausted. Sit down on the couch. You can change the channels. I will bring you a plate with food and a glass of water."
Amelia sat down, finally feeling the comfy cushions of their sofa on her aching back. She would have fallen asleep instantly if she didn't have smelled the delicious food that Link had made.
Link came to her as said, with a plate filled with the casserole and a glass of water in his free hand.
"Enjoy your meal butterfly, I already ate with Pippa sadly. I wasn't sure how long your surgery would go." Link said.
"It's okay Link, but if you are not eating you could start massaging my feet," she said with a smirk.
Amelia ate up her meal and got up, to put away her dishes.
"Could we watch a movie on prime? I saw a good one the other night will scrolling thru prime" she asked on her way back from the kitchen.
"We can. Come over to me. We can cuddle a little will." he said.
Amelia grabbed the comfiest blanket from a basket that was standing next to their sofa and made herself comfortable in Link's embrace.
Soon the movie was playing on their TV. Amelia was dosing of here and there. Her cramps were only a 2/10 from the 6/10 she felt earlier before she took the pain medication.
1 AM
The movie ended at around 11.35 pm and Amelia was fully asleep in Link's arms.
He picked her up and brought her up into their bed. He laid her down onto it and put the blanket over her.
Amelia shot up, feeling an intense pain for a short moment.
"What the heck was this." She mumbled this to herself. Link not even blinking a bit.
She slowly turned so that her feet were now hanging down from the bed.
She still had her sweater on and her pair of jeans.
She took a couple of deep breaths before she got up, looking behind her to make sure Link would not wake up.
Amelia went to her dresser and grabbed a pair of pj's out of it.
She then continued to go to their bathroom to change and pee. She sat down and finally saw what she had waited for the whole day and which suited to her discomfort.
She laid down again and fell asleep pretty quick.
She changed the pad and got into the pink-colored flannel pants.
She got up from the seat when she again was hit by an uncomfortable pain in her lower region. It took her a few seconds to catch her breath again and to stand straight. After taking a few breaths she changed her shirt and quickly brushed her teeth and got back to bed.
The sharp pain not coming back again.
But it was not a comfortable sleep, she turned every few minutes in her sleep. Something was not right.
3 hours later...
From now on it gets graphic.  Also TW mentioning of blood, body fluids
4 AM
Amelia opened her eyes wide when she suddenly felt the urge to pee.
Amelia's POV:
She quickly jumped out of bed, not seeing the wet stain on her mattress.
Amelia sprinted to their bathroom, yanked the toilet lid up, and quickly set down. But only a few drops came out until a big splash followed.
"What the freaking heck," I said after feeling this bang in my body, and then a gush of water or so flew into the toilet bowl underneath me.
I directly felt my breathing getting faster and faster and I began to shake.
I asked myself if my bladder just exploded, but I couldn't think that fast when I suddenly doubled over in pain. I started whimpering until the pain was gone a few seconds later.
"Did my bladder just explode?" I asked myself.
I sat up straight, I tried to, but it hurt too much. My back hurt as if someone would stab me into it. I tried to breathe, I tried to take a deep breath. To have the air to call Link thru the closed bathroom door.
The pain lasted for a full 20 seconds I think, but it felt like 20 hours.
But I couldn't. I couldn't call him, because of the moment I had my breath again.
The pain shoots again thru my stomach, thru my back, and my pelvic area. It felt like someone would cut me open without any anesthesia or medication. It hurt like HELL.
The moment it subsided I started to cry. Hard. The tears just flow down my cheeks.
I didn't know whatever it was. But it was not normal. It felt like my organs were in a vice. There was pressure on my pelvis. Like the feeling that I had to poop, but 100x times more painful.
I just did what my body said to me and just pressed my eyes shut and made my hands into fists while I did what my body wanted. PUSH!
While I was crying, I was heaving for air.
I stood up slowly, with one hand on the sink to support myself.
I barely had 2 minutes to catch my breath again when the pain came back, much worse than before. I supported myself with both hands on the sink while I crouched over, slowly sinking, because the pain was too much for my legs.
Suddenly I felt the urge to push, like if I would poop. But different.
Whatever it was. I just pushed! When I looked down in between my feet while pushing, I just saw blood and water running down my legs and onto my now reddish flannel pants.
This wave of pain was much longer, I can't remember how long but way too long.
I moaned so loud out in pain that Link should have heard me.
But he didn't. He always was a deep sleeper. From the first moment, we meet on.
I so hoped that he would see that I'm not right beside him. I need his help.
When I felt something hard and flat my heart kissed the floor.
I couldn't move, I felt something.
There was something in between my legs.
I lowered my upper body a little so that I could feel with my index and middle finger what was happening in between my legs.
I'M IN LABOUR! I'M HAVING A BABY! I'M PREGNANT!
And my head went blank, I just stood there, still with my fingers on, MY BABY's HEAD! Trying to process what I just found out. What I just felt seconds ago.
But again I didn't have the time to think more when the pain came back.
But this time I knew what was happening, what was happening with me, happening with my body.
I did a 2-week rotation in OB, thanks to Addison, my brother's ex-wife. Back then when I was still a little resident.
So I knew a teeny tiny bit about what happens when a mother gives birth.
But compared to birthing a whole human by yourself, practically alone, without even knowing it 1 minute before is a different thing. I wish Addison would be with me, right now.
I again steadied myself on the sink, while I pushed, in my mind counting down from 10.
10...9...8...7...6...
While I moaned and screamed so loud again, even louder than I did before.
Hoping internally that Link would wake up.
In the meantime in Link and Amelia's bedroom:
I pushed and pushed and I could feel the little head of my baby coming out more and more. I screamed.
I pushed so hard, it hurt so much! Until it felt easier and the contraction subsided. I took a breath and took my right hand down from the sink and went down to feel what was going on.
Link was peaceful sleeping when he suddenly woke up. He bolded up. But he didn't know why. He didn't hear anything, he only saw some light shining thru under the door. He just thought that it was probably only Amelia flushing the toilet. So he just looked at his alarm, 4.23 AM it said, and laid back down again and was out like a light.
Back to Amelia's POV:
This went so fast, I could only take one more breath when suddenly another contraction washed over me. This time I only could hold myself with one hand, while I supported my baby's head with my right hand, which was still down there, while I pushed!
That was the moment when I felt that my baby's head was completely out.
I could feel with my shaking hand that they had so much hair, I could feel their little nose, mouth, and chin.
SO HARD! AND I SCREAMED SO LOUD!!!
I could feel how my baby slowly came more and more out of me and suddenly there was this relief. I took my other hand fast down from the sink and placed it in between my legs and caught my baby in the right moment when they slid out of me.
Back to the bedroom where Link still is
There SHE was!
I fell onto my knees, while I had her in my hands. I pulled her on me while she took a big breath and started to SCREAM her lungs out!
She was crying and I was now crying too, shaking so so hard while I switched from sitting on my legs to sitting on my butt, situating myself on our bathroom rug, which was also full of blood and amniotic fluid from my baby girl. Suddenly...
(before Baby Girl was born)
Suddenly Link woke up again, a few minutes later, hearing a desperate scream coming from their bathroom. A hurtful scream. Link grabbed the nearest t-shirt he found, flew into it, and ran to their bathroom. Suddenly he heard a second scream, more a cry. A small squeaky cry.
Back to Amelia's POV:
... the door flew open and suddenly Link was standing in the door of our bathroom. He was more than shocked. His face fell onto the floor when he saw the 'massacre' I did. Actually we two girls did.
There was blood around the toilet and sink and a good amount of amniotic fluid laying on the floor too.
"What the...! Holy shit!!!" Link only could say to me.
And then there was me, his girlfriend, sitting on a former light blue bathroom rug which now was a different color, with her bloody pajama pants still around her ankles, sweaty hair, blood all over her legs and hands, and the most important part a little naked infant, laying in my arms, still attached to the umbilical cord, little whimpers now coming from the tiny baby, which I held so tightly to my shirt, which I still was wearing.
Crying my eyes out and shaking so hard.
"I know," I said crying. "I need your help"
Link came running over to me, grabbing 2 big towels on his way to me. He went down to me and threw one towel right over us girls like a blanket so that our little girl would stay warm. The other towel he laid over my legs.
"Oh Amelia, when, what, how?" He asked me. While he looked over me and then lifted the towel to look at our little girl.
"Oh, that is a difficult and long story, my dear," I told him while I tried to get out of my shirt.
"What are you doing?" he asked me.
"I'm trying to take my shirt off so that SHE can lay on my skin, this will keep her warm," I said and Link gladly helped me with it until I had my shirt off and our girl was laying on my chest.
"I should call an ambulance, right? I know like 0 things about births but what I know is that there's still the placenta to deliver right? And that should happen with an OBGYN or more known person in this kinda field. And also so much more needs to look for." he asked me. Out of breath after saying this in one breath.
"You definitely should call an ambulance my dear," I said much more calmly, now that I had my baby girl right on me. "But I think that this part is already pretty much done," I said as I looked down. Seeing that I must have pushed the placenta out already without even knowing it.
"Oh crap. How are you feeling? Are you dizzy? Feeling woozy?" he asked me after seeing what I did.
"Except for that my huha, pelvis, and stomach are hurting pretty much. I'm good. I'm amazing. Even if that was VERY SHOCKING!" I told him.
Link came back after calling both, an ambulance and Maggie.
Link got up to run to get his phone to call an ambulance and to call Maggie so that she could have an eye on Pippa.
OH, there will be so much explaining, first to Maggie and then to all the thousand people we know.
"So the ambulance will be here in 20 and Maggie in 15. I only told her it's an emergency and that she should brace herself for the reason why she has to be here. How are you two doing?"
"Right uh, maybe I could help. Please don't call me weird or laugh at me, but I helped a little while I was a resident, on the postpartum station at the hospital where I did my residency too, to earn some more money during all that."
"Good, good. I think she's already searching for milk. But I have zero ideas how this works.
Mer did breastfeed Ellis, but it never interested me. And I'm not even sure if I even have the system built for it. I didn't even know about her 20 minutes ago"
"Okay, haha. We can look if it works until the paramedics come. In the meantime, we also could think about a name for HER." I told him, he still didn't had realized that she was a girl.
"Her? Oh, shoot I didn't even ask or see what the baby is. OMG! We have two girls Amelia!"
"Oh, we really have," I said with again tears pooling down my cheeks. "Any name ideas?"
"Grace, Elaina, Freya, Liyah... I think she looks like a little Liyah, our little wonder & light." He said
"Liyah, Liyah... YES! I love it! What do you think? Liyah?"
My little wonder just bumped her head onto my chest and smiled.
"I think she agrees. Come, let's look if I have something to eat for you."
Link got down to my level and pulled the towel back down and grabbed his tiny daughter for the first time so that he could position her right in front of my left breast.
Liyah eagerly searched for the nipple and started sucking on it.
"Oh that hurt, Ouch" Liyah continued to suck on my breast until she fell asleep a few seconds later and we heard a knock at the door.
Link went up to open it.
I heard Link talking to Maggie, informing her that she please should stay quiet, and then Maggie appeared in the open door of our bathroom.
"O-M-G what! When, how?" Maggie would have yelled out of excitement and astonishment if Pippa wasn't sleeping 2 doors down the hall.
"I know, I know. A very long story Maggie." I said.
"Everything went so fast and unexpected, but here is your newest niece, Liyah," I told her proudly.
"Wow!"
"Link, could you maybe pack us a little bag? Some clothes, toothbrushes, etc. For the hospital. When we arrive, we also should look into buying this little one something to wear in the hospital and clothes for the first few weeks. And oh-my-gosh... We have to do so much, Link." I said.
Maggie slowly came over to us two.
I was still sitting on the bathroom rug. One towel was still over my legs, my pants still at my ankles, the other towel over me and Liyah.
"Slow down butterfly. We first get her some clothes and the important things for at home, crib, changing table... We can do this. We also still have a ton of things from when Pippa came to us. She was almost one but still needed a lot of things, a baby also needs. We are not lost."
"Right yeah." I calmed down again and heard how the paramedics came into our house.
They took care of the two of us. While Link packed the hospital bag and grabbed my cellphone.
The paramedics put me onto a gurney after we dressed me in a pair of clean sweatpants and sweater and Liyah was given a little pink hat and was wrapped in a cute little blanket. I got to hold her again from the moment on when I was settled on the gurney. My sweet little unexpected but sooo loved peanut.
Link thankfully was allowed to drive with us in the ambulance. We left Pippa with Maggie at home and told Maggie that we will inform her about every little thing and also when she could bring Pippa to the hospital to meet her little sister :)
When we arrived at Grey Sloan Memorial hospital, we were directly brought up to the maternity floor, where I was checked by an OBGYN and Liyah was being checked of by Alex who was also more than shocked when he came into my room before.
Everything went amazing. Everything was good with me, and also Liyah was a perfect little healthy baby. Our little 36 weeker. Our little wonder.
Born being 19 inches (48cm) and weighing 6.1 pounds (2.7kg).
She was a little premature, I knew that now, but she didn't need any support, no oxygen or feeding tube or any medication.
Because she was a strong little girl, who latched onto my breast for the second time in her short little life. She again tried sucking on it and it felt different.
Not like I was shooting milk, that wouldn't even happen to a mother who knew she was pregnant from the beginning on.
But Liyah was getting something out of my breast. Maybe I really was able to breastfeed her, maybe my body build everything in those less than 9 months, without letting me know.
Because I didn't see and felt even a tiny bit of change on me. I lived my normal life every single day, without knowing that I was caring a baby girl in me for less than 9 months.
Our little wonder, our little light.

Something about this scene makes me soft. The way she clearly wasn’t feeling good, with the way she was breathing more heavily and kept swallowing and he still managed to make her smile and laugh by checking in on her and making sure she was okay. And the way he asked if something had happened was so soft and protective of her and the baby. The way they were still so new and the idea of the baby was so new and he was trying to make sure she was comfortable with whatever was happening and kept apologising is cute!
I love this scene, wish we had gotten more like this🥰

……………………………………………………………………
As they made the familiar drive home, Alex was more careful than she'd ever known him to be. After four days in the hospital, they were finally heading home. He kept glancing back at her and Charlotte in the rearview mirror every few minutes and every time he paused at a stop light. Jo sat next to Charlotte in the backseat holding on to her hand. The second they put her in the car seat, the one that Alex had finally approved of after several considerations and numerous safety readings, both of them were surprised as Charlotte frowned. They were worried that she would cry the whole way home. Yet the second Alex started the engine she smiled and was asleep before he even pulled out of the parking lot.
“She's definitely your kid,” Alex said with a little smile, glancing back at them in the rearview mirror. “She falls asleep every time in the car, just like her Mama.”
“I do not fall asleep every time,” Jo protested the role of her eyes.
“No, but 9 out of 10 times you will fall asleep on the drive home,” Alex said with a chuckle that she ignored.
As if to prove his point her body betrayed her and she yawned. Still, she blamed her exhaustion on the fact that she had a newborn. Although she could barely claim that as Alex had taken over the majority of Charlotte’s nighttime care, waking her only to let her breastfeed every few hours. Jo made up for it during the day, as she took care of Charlotte so he could nap. Although he refused to let her change a single diaper, something she didn't protest.
Jo was looking forward to getting home away from the prying eyes of everyone at the hospital. Still, she would miss the visits from their friends and family as they popped in every day to see her in Charlotte. Although Meredith and Link had set up a schedule to come by and help babysit and of course do their laundry. Maggie, Amelia, and several others at the hospital had started a meal train to bring them dinner every night of the week.
The ride to the loft was quicker than usual or maybe Jo just nodded off as she lifted her head from the headrest to see they were parked in the parking lot. She looked down at Charlotte who still happily snoozed her little fingers still wrapped around Jo’s. Jo looked up as Alex carefully parked and saw Meredith's car in the parking lot next to theirs, but didn't think too much of it.
Alex immediately jumped out of the front seat, running over to their door before Jo could open it. She smiled as he held his hand out to her, helping her out of the car, but she let him because she was still sore from giving birth. He reached for the car seat carefully lifting it out of the car as Jo looked over at Charlotte again and fussed with the blanket. Alex put one arm around her waist as the three of them walked up to the loft. Jo let herself lean into him more than she usually did, but she pretended it was only so she could see Charlotte.
She reached for the loft door at the same time that Alex did, since he was holding the car seat, but he quickly got there first to open it as Jo stepped back with a roll of her eyes. The moment they stepped into the loft Jo realized that it wasn't just Meredith and Link in the loft, but several of their friends and family, including Maggie, Amelia, and the kids too Zola, baby Bailey, and Ellis were there.
“Surprise,” They all shouted as they stepped aside to reveal the little nursery they had set up.
In the corner of the loft, where the dining room table used to be, there was the pink intricate crib Alex had liked, along with a pink dresser and a grey recliner, and a few other nursery items. The pink was muted by the gray colors of the blankets and rug and it was perfect. Jo could feel the tears collect in her eyes as she looked over Alex. He was just as surprised as she was, his eyebrows were raised, but he smiled.
“Did you guys do all of this?” Alex asked in astonishment as they walked towards the nursery.
“Well, we couldn't let the two of you bring a baby home with no nursery,” Meredith said with a smile as she ushered them over.
“It's beautiful, thank you guys,” Jo said as she ran her hand on the railing of the crib and Alex put the car set down on the recliner as the kids crowded around her.
“That's not all,” Meredith said looking over to their bed as Helen came out from behind the shelves.
“Mom!” Alex exclaimed as he ran over to hug her. Jo was just as excited to see her, she loved her mother-in-law.
“Hello my sweet boy,” Helen said as she pulled Alex in for a hug before pulling back and coming over to Jo wrapping her arms around her as well. “It's good to see you as well Jo, but where is my grandbaby? Nana Helen wants to meet her.”
“We’re excited for you to meet her too,” Jo said as Alex smiled and he carefully picked up Charlotte before handing her to Helen as she smiled at her granddaughter.
“Auntie Jo-Jo, did you really have a baby in your tummy,” Ellis said as she bounded over to them and looked at Jo’s stomach.
“I did,” Jo said with a smile as she looked down at Charlotte. She still wondered how Charlotte fit in there without any of them knowing.
“She's really squishy,” Bailey said as he looked down at her.
“She's like a cuter version of Uncle Alex,” Zola said, glancing at her as they all laughed. “Can I hold her?”
“No, I want to hold her,” Ellis complained, tugging on Helen's arm.
“Don't tug on Mrs. Karev while she's holding the baby and it's up to your Aunt Jo,” Meredith quickly reminded them as she pulled Ellis away.
Jo’s immediate reaction was to say no. Even now watching Helen hold Charlotte, she was anxious to have her back. She didn't want to miss a second of Charlotte's life when she had already missed her entire pregnancy. Jo was still adjusting to motherhood and never felt like she had enough time with her. Still, she knew she had an entire lifetime with Charlotte, and letting her family love her too was a good thing.
“Come here, you two,” Jo said to them as she settled herself in the rocking chair.
Both girls immediately ran for her and Jo smiled as she pulled Ellis into her lap, as Zola sat on the footrest. Jo remembered what it was like when they were little. Although Meredith didn't trust her at first, she soon became Auntie Jo and she loved them. She and Alex had watched them grow up and Jo knew how much it meant to Alex to be around the kids. She also knew how he longed for a baby of their own and now they had their baby girl.
Alex smiled at Charlotte as he took her from his mom and came over to them. “Zola, do you want to hold her first?”
Zola eagerly nodded and Meredith crouched next to her, showing Zola how to hold the newborn as Alex placed her in her arms.
“She's so little,” Zola whispered with a smile as she stared down at Charlotte.
“Well, she had to be to fit inside Jo without any of us knowing,” Amelia said, putting a hand on her belly with a laugh that everybody else shared.
“Seriously though, I can't believe none of us knew,” Link said with a shake of his head.
“Yeah, a room full of doctors and none of you spotted the pregnant woman,” Jo said with a laugh as Ellis giggled in her lap.
“You're a doctor too and you were the one who was pregnant. What does that say about you?” Link asked, raising an eyebrow at her and Jo just responded by sticking her tongue out at him.
“I swear if I hadn't seen you in the ER, I would have never believed it,” Amelia said with a shake of her head as she came closer to look at Charlotte.
“It helps that she looks exactly like Alex, but I can see little touches of you too, Jo. Like with her little lips,” Helen said as she smiled over at her. “Although she has Alex's big head.”
“It's not that big,” Alex said, looking at Charlotte with soft eyes, refusing to see any imperfections in his perfect little girl.
“Yes, it is,” Jo said, smirking at him as everybody laughed.
Zola held her for a little while before Alex picked up Charlotte and handed her to Jo and Ellis. Jo put an arm around Ellis and helped her hold Charlotte’s head as Ellis cradled her. She let out a breath of relief that Charlotte was back in her arms, but she loved how much her family loved Charlotte.
“I still have trouble believing I was pregnant myself and I gave birth to her,” Jo said with a smile as she ran her finger down Charlotte’s arm. “Speaking of, has anyone seen the state of the bathroom?”
Jo glanced over at the bathroom door that was partly open, but Meredith quickly waved her off. “Don't worry about it, we had a professional crew come in and clean it.”
“Along with the rest of Loft as well,” Amelia added with a shake of her head as she looked around the loft. “Seriously, do you guys even own a vacuum?”
“No, I don't have a vacuum, why would we have a vacuum if it's all concrete?” Alex said as he and Jo both laughed as everyone else rolled their eyes.
“You have like ten rugs?” Amelia countered, gesturing to the rugs around them and the new grey rug under their feet.
“Why, do we even ask?” Meredith said with a shake of her head.
“Well, I’m going to get dinner started,” Maggie said, going over to the kitchen. “We also did some grocery shopping as your fridge was bare. Seriously, what have you two been eating?”
“Take out,” Jo and Alex said, together with a shrug.
“Well there's only a box of mini pretzels in the freezer,” Maggie completed as she opened the freezer to pull out the box of pretzels.
“Jo’s been going crazy for those things,” Alex said, glancing over at her before looking down at Charlotte. “I guess now we know why.”
“Yeah,” Jo said as she looked down at Charlotte.
“All right, well who’s helping me cook?” Maggie said as she pulled out their pots and pans.
“Do we have to?” Meredith asked under her breath.
“I’ll help Auntie Maggie,” Bailey said, getting up and going over to her as she handed him a pot.
“Thank you, Bailey. You can help be my taste tester,” Maggie said with a smirk knowing it would garner more help.
“Oh, count me in, the baby’s hungry,” Amelia said, patting her belly as she got up to go help with the food.
“I want to be a taste tester too,” Ellis said, as Jo took Charlotte and Ellis wiggled out from under her arms.
Alex came over and sat on the arm of the chair as he looked down at Charlotte. He smiled down at her and traced his fingers down her arm to hold her hand. Their little girl opened her eyes and looked around before her eyes finally settled on Jo’s face.
“Well I should get started on the laundry and unpacking all of these cute new baby clothes,” Link said holding up a little pink flowered sleeper and Jo definitely agreed that it was adorable. “If we have a girl I'm definitely buying her something like that.”
“If you think that's cute, you should check out some of the outfits Alex got. I had to convince him not to put her in a big puffy dress for her ride home,” Jo said with a chuckle as Alex just shrugged as he went over to the baby bag pulling out the dress.
“Okay but look how cute this is,” Alex said as he held up the fluffy pink tulle dress.
Meredith couldn't help but laugh if she shook her head. “Alex Karev is a girl dad, ha I’ve got to send a picture of this to Cristina.”
She held up her phone to take a picture, but Alex didn't shy away, instead held up the dress with pride before coming back to sit next to Jo.
“Oh and I brought several little hats and other little things for Charlotte,” Helen said, pulling out her knitting basket along with several little hats and booties, and even a little knitted jacket.
“Helen, those are beautiful,” Jo said, taking one of the little pink hats Helen handed her and putting it on Charlotte's head. It was beautiful and soft and she loved that her baby had something handmade for her by her Nana.
Jo looked around the room at her family. Maggie, Amelia, and the kids were in the kitchen making them lunch. Link was doing their laundry while Helen put away Charlotte’s knitted things. Zola and Meredith put away their things from the hospital and Alex was right next to her as they looked down at the old newest little addition to their family.
“I remember coming home that night and then I saw you with Charlotte in your arms and I was so scared. I was terrified that I was going to lose both of you and now I have both of you and you're okay. It's more than I could have ever asked to come home to,” Alex said as he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her forehead before bending down to press a kiss to Charlotte’s head as well.
“She's a pretty good thing to come home to,” Jo whispered as she looked down at Charlotte as her eyes fluttered closed again amidst all the chaos their family made, she was settled enough to fall asleep.
Jo looked around for a blanket to swaddle Charlotte in and spotted the white and blue pink striped hospital blanket on the couch. It wasn't one that they had brought home with Charlotte, but it was the safe haven baby’s, Asher's blanket. She remembered holding it the night she went into labor and thinking about how much she wanted a baby of her own and now she had Charlotte.
“Hey, could you go get that blanket for me?” Jo asked, gesturing to the blanket on the couch.
“Yeah,” Alex said instantly, going to get the blanket and he stared at it for a second as he brought it over to her. “Is this one of Charlotte’s, I don't remember leaving one on the couch?”
“No this one was the safe haven baby, Asher's blanket,” Jo said as she moved to wrap the blanket around Charlotte, gently swaddling her as she slept before Jo held her close again. “I checked up on him when I was in the hospital. He got adopted by a good family.”
“That's good, I know how much you cared about him,” Alex said with a nod and a small smile.
“Yeah, it is,” Jo agreed as she looked down at Charlotte. “I thought that it would heal me, but I fell a little bit in love with him. Having him made me realize that I was ready to have a baby, to be a mom and now I am.”
“I always knew that you would be a good mom,” Alex said looking up from Charlotte to smile at her. “You love with your whole heart Jo, and you're going to make sure that our daughter has a better life than you did, than either of us did. And I'm going to make sure that I take care of you both for the rest of your lives.”
“You aren't going anywhere are you?” Jo asked, raising an eyebrow at him given his strange wording.
“No,” Alex said with a laugh and a shake of his head. “I don't plan on going anywhere, but you never know what could happen.”
“If you die on me Alex Karev, I'm going to drag you back myself,” Jo said as she poked him with her finger.
“I wouldn't expect anything less,” Alex said with a smile, taking her hand and kissing it. “But for real Jo, I'm going to take care of you and Charlotte. I promise you, I'm going to be a good dad for her and a good husband to you and I'm going to take care of you two.”
Jo couldn't find the words to express how she felt, so she let her lips speak for her. She reached out to cup his face, feeling the stumble along his cheeks as she brought him in for a kiss. His lips were sweet on hers and it was soft and gentle and full of the love they had for each other. When he pulled back Alex bent down to press a kiss on Charlotte's head and her little lips turned up a bit in her sleep.
As they looked back at their family. Jo thought about how they would spend the next couple of years surrounded by them with Charlotte. They would watch her grow up and play with her cousins, including Amelia and Link's baby. Her baby would have cousins and aunts and uncles and a nana. It was more than she could have ever asked for.
“We have a daughter and she has a family,” Jo said looking up at Alex and watching a large smile that bloomed across his face.
“Yeah we have a daughter and a family,” Alex said with a smile as he leaned in to kiss her lips for a moment before he pulled back. “Welcome to the family Charlotte.”
