🦋Digital Dollhouse Makeover Challenge: A 12 Day CAS challenge all about makeovers!🦋
Hello Simblr! Since joining the community like a month ago I've been really interested in CAS Challenges, and while participating in other people's challenges, I got inspired to make my own.
This challenge mostly focuses on dressing up or reworking existing sims rather than creating new ones, so it's good for players who have a lot of sims they're already attached to. I also largely wanted to avoid the typical "nerd girl takes off her glasses" type of movie makeover and instead tried to come up with prompts that involve a different type of transformation than just "'''''ugly'''''' to '''''pretty''''''".
RULES: not many tbh. Do all 12 or pick and choose, do them out of order, just have fun! However, make sure to include Before and After photos for each makeover!
Take one of your favorite sims and make them over into the complete opposite of their usual aesthetic!
Humanize an occult sim, or occult-ify a human sim!
Imagine that a "What Not To Wear"/"Queer Eye"-type show exists in your Sim universe-- make a before-and-after of a sim that got made over on that show! (It's up to you whether the makeover is actually any good— you remember those old 2000s makeover shows that made everyone dress so boring, right?).
Download an "ugly to beauty challenge" sim from the gallery, but give them a makeover that embraces their existing features instead of completely changing them.
Take a randomly-generated townie in a wacky outfit and try to make them over in a way that maintains their general appearance and vibe! Refine their outfit, make them more cohesive, adapt them into your own style-- but keep them recognizable as the sim you started with.
Put a sim in drag!
Imagine what would happen if two of your sims gave each other makeovers.
Make over one of your LEAST favorite premade townie's original EA version without changing any genetics! Skin details, hair, clothing, defaults, etc. are fair game, but you can't change any sliders on their face or body.
Take one of your earliest Sims you have saved (a sim you made years ago, or whenever you were just getting started with TS4) and update them into your current style! If you don't have any of your old sims to update, remake and update a sim from a previous Sims game!
Show a sim who's had a physical change that mirrors some sort of development they've had as a person/character. I.E. they started dressing different after a major life event, made a change reflecting a change in personality, etc. Use an existing storyline from one of your saves or make up a hypothetical plotline/backstory!
Give a sim a fairytale transformation like Cinderella.
Dress one of your sims in a randomly generated aesthetic. (Generator 1 / Generator 2 / Generator 3 )

Generation One: Devony Honey 🐝
So since my Monarch Lepacy was lost during my PC upgrade/break down, I decided to go back and start a New Lepacy. I have not played the sims 3 in over a year or more so I thought it would be great to go do a Lepacy so I can rediscover the game again. This is my founder! Devony Honey! And I'm kind of proud of a not so ugly sim since I haven't made one in a long time and I was quite proud she turned out to look like the style I've been using in sims 3 for a while...Idk I thought I would loose how to make a sim or something lol 😂. What’s your favorite Sims death?
Tbh I'm not big on killing my sims (boring, boooo) so I'd say good ol' old age, especially cause bitches be dying at the wildest moments. But if you want me to be more fancy, I love drowning specifically in floor.
Alpha CC or Maxis Match?
Maxis Match all the way!!! I only use alpha or alpha-ish cc when I can't find MM alternative.
Do you cheat your sims weight?
Nah, never and frankly I never had to... like my sims just stay one weight their entire life unless I play with a gym freak.
Do you move objects?
Always. The grid is my enemy, moo is my saviour.
Favorite Mod?
Consort Age Mod, cause I love generational gameplay and seeing my sims slowly go gray is so nostalgic to me, and Zodiac Sings Mod, cause I was tired of twins getting different zodiac signs...
First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack?
For TS2 I got a lot of them at once cause they were hand-me-downs from my mum's friend's daughter. For TS3 it was Late Night, I remember it vividly cause my dad thought the lady in a bikini on the cover was inappropriate.
Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing?
Neither, cause I play in my native language (it's way more memable), but if I had to choose LIVing speaks to me more.
Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
Long story, strap in. So when I was still in highschool, I created a joke save to share with my friends and I made this elderly man whom I named Andrzej and he was a menace. He was a womaniser alchemist, who had like 20 children (5 of which I kept in household, and they were as chaotic as their father) and then became a kung fu master, married a werewolf and finally impersonated a Goth family member and stole their fortune. I love him. Andrzej forever in my heart.
Have you made a simself?
Yep!! I posted her!! She's way prettier though cause girlie's symmetrical. I usually just drop myself and my bf into my world and see what story progression does with me. (as of now I have 3 kids as a kids hater ;-;)
Which is your favorite EA hair color?
The black one I guess... I rarely use the presets cause they're ugly af.
Favorite EA hair?
The one from Island Paradise, the updo with strands framing the face.
Favorite life stage?
Young Adult or teens. I like teens more when I make mischievous bastards.
Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
I can't build to save my life, but I love to decorate!! I'm mostly for the gameplay though (and making sims).

Yep! I'm new to this but I hope I'll keep getting better.

Nah, I never found anything subtle enough, cause I don't do on the nose merch very often (except band tees).
How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?
I used to use an UNGODLY amount of cheats...mostly cause I was a kid, but I would make a pretty sim with loads of CC, then play for a few months with that one sim (mostly being a hoe) and get bored eventually. Nowadays I'm a big generational player and I can play with one family for several years. Just a couple months ago I finally finished playing with a family I started 4 years ago.

Favorite Characters Of 2022
While I've already touched on art that touched me this year, I wanted to talk about some of the characters who I really resonated with. I am a character focused writer, I run character focused TTRPG sessions, I love characters. There is obviously a ton of characters I really loved in a year but I am keeping it to 10 because that is the list standard. Shoutouts to Bridget Guilty Gear who has brought me a ton of a joy in 2022 but doesn't have a ton narratively. Anyway, let's begin!
Zagan [Dead End: Paranormal Park]
Zagan may be a minor villain in Dead End but she stole my little lesbian heart right away. At the end of season 1 she serves as a great villain for a light hearted kids show raising the level of stakes while also not being jarring. Then in season 2 we get some Zagan queerness and we get some depth to her as we start to humanize the demons a bit more at the face of the actually evil angels. I think she is perfectly used and I would love to see her and Norma date.
Shirayui [Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games]
I like it when a girl can get a bit ugly, and Shirayui can get a little ugly in a delightful way. This passionate fighting gamer is a little gamer goblin, she is rowdy, loves destroying people at fighting games and wants a worthy foe. It's great seeing her maintain her image as a perfect lady while then going sicko mode whenever she gets a chance to do what she actually loves, playing a fighting game. Shirayui is charming and is a perfect example of portraying women in ways that just don't really happen in media. Like this kind of personality would normally either be a goof that she like "acts like a man" but she is toxic in lots of great ways that don't feel like a dude character. I love her and as far as I know she doesn't kill her rival and that is sad.
Ashuna [Executioner And Her Way of Life]
We love a jocky lesbian in this house and Ashua is peak shimbo material. She is shockingly smart when she needs to be but is otherwise all about battling and good fights and she is just fun. Sometimes a character is just fun to watch, every time she would show up on screen I'd cheer. Her blooming relationship with Momo is really good and I think it adds more to her character. Ashua isn't deep but she is perfectly executed in her own story.
Falis [Murder Princess]
This was a surprise hit of the year; when I was with April to jam about Thirsty Sword Lesbians: Falling Deeper and stuff we ended up watching this anime she remembered from when she was a kid and it was so much then I had expected and she remembered. Falis is just a very cool character, a woman who is just kinda badass but kind to her friends is rare. She is really well balanced in being a responsible person to having selfish desires to be a badass warrior to being a loyal friend in a way that makes her feel really human. It's rare for women to be written in the way Falis is and I really want to see more badass sword lesbian types in the future.
Also her stuff around the body swap with the princess is great and I think her coming into her own as a princess, kind of proving a commoner should be in charge is fun.
Rae Taylor [I'm In Love With The Villainess]
I thought I would hate Rae with her lack of boundaries but she's really captured me, as if I was a marriage candidate in a yuri dating sim. I think Rae may be on a list again next year, I own vol 3 of the manga and just need to read it, the anime is coming and there is just a lot that I'll be diving into for this wonderful lesbian. Rae went from a woman who didn't really get boundaries to showing her true emotional depths from a hint of her trauma from her previous life and to defining her sexuality and even challenging her crush Clair's homophobia.
Plus she has such a fun imagination watching her plans come out and either fail in funny ways or succeed in amazing ways is a really nice experience. I think she might be one of Yuri's best characters but I'll reserve my judgment until I read it all.
Poison Ivy [Harley Quinn Animated]
Poison Ivy is one of the best villains ever created because she is just a better person in every way then the hero in like 90% of stories the other 10% are like stories where they just decide she is a fash or wants to kill all humans for no reason. Ivy is a really fun character to have around and the more Daria esc version of Ivy works well for the show. Season 3 had her figuring out how she wants to define herself and coming into more of that big time villain side that I enjoy at the face of like the Super Heroes who represent the status quo.
I am really excited to see what Season 4 makes of her and where the future for her character in the best DC universe ever made stands
Sabi Mehboob [Sort Of]
Trans sapphics of color are so rare in basically all media but Sort Of gives of Sabi as the main character. We see a connection to Sabi's culture, to her former religion, her relationship to a family with considerably more wealth then her, her relationship to her best friend, her relationship to her ex, her relation to her own family, all in one season. I haven't started season 2 because I unsubbed from HBO Max but when I get a chance to watch Sort Of Season 2 I am really excited. Sabi is a deeply relatable character and seeing the start of a budding romance with another trans woman took her over the edge to being one of the most relatable characters I've ever seen.
As a trans lesbian of color myself, seeing other queer trans women on TV is basically a thing that never happens let alone a trans woman of color showing desire for other women let alone the glorious power of T4T romance. It is really nice and really great and Sabi is just an amazing mess and I hope her life turns around.
Monica [Fire Emblem: Three Hopes]
I'm a simple girl, I see a woman homosexually devoted to another woman and I stan. Monica is Fire Emblems second canon lesbian character. She is in some ways a character whose sexuality defines her but I really don't care. She is clearly deeper then that, she has her political position, her support for the revolution, her affection for Doretha, her rivalry with Hubert all of which make her a wonderful character. Plus she is just really fun to play as.
Úrsula [Los Espookys]
Ursula is a rare W for me where I see a character and go "She seems like she is a lesbian" and it is totally confirmed at some point. Ursula in season 2 of Los Espooky's is just like so many of my friends. Queer Latnix Zinester indie queer wanting to make the world a better place. Her subdued personality makes for some solid jokes and while she is often the "straight man" to a lot of jokes she is still funny in her own right from her utterly resisting brainwashing to her determination bouncing off the weirdos of the world, I love her.
Suletta [Gundam: The Witch From Mercury]
This little bisexual disaster is one of the most endearing characters ever written. She is so sweet, kind and has such a strong sense of justice. Her bound to Mio, her friends, her mother an Ariel are all extremally endearing and I just want to see her be happy. While we don't know where things will go for her in season 2, season 1 Sulleta brought me joy every single time she was on screen and in almost all her fan art. It's rare to see a darker skin sapphic character in fiction, in particular in anime and that's just a small extra part of the whole package which makes her so perfect. It's amazing to watch her battle and it'll be fun to learn more and more about her over time.

I had set in mind to use the pregnancy interaction during a "wedding scene" but after figuring out CC brides dresses (Or the ones I downloaded" don't show up on pregnant Sims my whole setup got ruined 🤡 Anyways, I took around 80 pictures and uh well....it's hard to pick a favorite 😂

Now that I see the chandelier there....we heard at work today that Sia song and I commented how awkward things would be, if you had to dub every song in existence into every country's language. Like imagine having to sing in German the refrain like: ICH WERDE SCHWINGEN AUF DEN KRONLEUCHTER. AUF DEM KRONLEU-CHTER! 😂 It would be amusing tbh.

I actually love River's natural look, but still gave her for the wedding a bit of color. I didn't go through a lot of hairstyles in MTS and only had in mind to have a hairstyle, that wouldn't be that long. I changed my mind in the end and used one of the hairstyles that came with Seasons and she actually looks good. (Coming from someone who knows nothing about make-up)
OK those were my pictures. They're still the most adorable thing I have done yet. (With them at least) ❤ If I get to know how to work with poses at some point, I sure will take more. Or actual put up screenshots of a "basic wedding"

1. What’s your favourite sims death? Gotta go with a classic... the cowplant death. I really like cowplants!
2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? I'm maxis mix, but hair must be maxis match.
3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? Nope. I can't think of a reason I would ever need to!
4. Do you use move objects? Yes, but I use the T.O.O.L. mod more (for really accurate placement).
5. Favorite mod? UI Cheats or MCCommand are obviously necessary, but I could not play the game without Lumpinou's mods or custom recipes (Granny's Cookbook is my favorite).
6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? Get to Work, luxury party, and camping GP (outdoor retreat I think? It came in a bundle).
7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? Honest to God I go back and forth on this. Depending on the context I have used both! (I pondered this question for a few minutes but it hurt my poor little dyslexic brain. I just kept going back and forth until I was too confused lmao.)
8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I really don't have a favorite child. Erwin is probably my favorite townie makeover, but I will always have a special place in my heart for my Carter family OCs.
9. Have you made a simself? Yes, but I don't play my simself in game.
10. What sim traits do you give yourself? High maintenance, creative, family-oriented (+ music lover and moody)
11. Which is your favorite EA hair color? Probably the true black tbh (but I use the last red hair swatch a LOT for some reason lol).
12. Favorite EA hair? I like all the hairs that came with Growing Together and I like the braided updo from Jungle Adventure.
13. Favorite life stage? Teens or YA probably as these stages have the most enjoyable gameplay features.
14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? Gameplay - telling stories is the heart of why I play the Sims in the first place. I do love building, but I have to be in the mood.

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? Back when TS4 first dropped I used alpha cc, no custom sliders, no skin overlays, and my sims were very ugly tbh lol. Then I shifted to a hyper cartoon look once I discovered simblr. But now I think I have my own distinctive style that I'm really proud of!

24. How do you edit your pictures? I mostly resize, crop, adjust the exposure and contrast as I see fit, then sharpen the image. I do have a new method for gameplay pics that I learned a few days ago that looks really clean and smooth that I'm excited about too!!! My whole process is pretty low effort as I'm not into that part of the process at all.
25. What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far? Strangerville (obviously) and Get Together, the underrated queen!!! The townies are so good and the world is amazing. But really I like any packs that add gameplay (especially family/legacy-centered gameplay).
26. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? Not a whole pack dedicated to horses that's for sure lmao 😅. I really want another city world, or at least a world that has apartments. More hobbies and skills would be phenomenal, like a whole skill game pack or EP dedicated to hobbies and personal passions (reminiscent of TS2 Freetime). More diversity of personality and skills in the game, more careers (not all playable ones like GTW, but I wouldn't object to a few). A skills/hobby pack would be a great pack to include bands and additional instruments. I would like more non-American-based worlds as well.

Your food/object replacements and cc literally is one of the biggest reasons I love playing sims. I just wanna say THANK YOU!!! I want to ask how you make the overrides? I’ve been searching for tutorials on how to change the ugly BG food to more realistic looking food. (There’s another creator that made the food replacements but they unfortunately stopped). So I wanna take matters to own hand but tbh I don’t know how 😅

The first thing you need is to have Sims 4 Studio software.
After you install it, in the main menu you'll find: Animation, Build, CAS, Object. You'll notice that all of them have an "override" option.
If you want to replace a food item, for example, it's in the "Object" category.
1- Check the "Override" option then click on "Object".
2- All objects of the game will show up. If it's a debug item you're looking for, you need to check the "Show Debug Items" box.
If you want to replace a food object, type "food" in the search box.
Choose the item you want, then click "Next". Give your package file a name and save it.
3- Replace the meshes and textures for the ones you created. You can edit the name, description, etc. And make more changes at the warehouse tab. Like tuning, DST image, etc. Save your package.
That's it :)

I have this weird relationship to Sims 4 that I never had with any of the past Sims games.
The first time I got into Sims was playing Sims on the gamecube with my friend at the time, we knew fuck all about the game or how to actually play it which made it more bizarre and fun. Then I got Sims 2 for the playstation 2 which was a fun hot mess I played quite a lot after school and during summer breaks.
Then eventually Sims 3 was out and I had it and I had most the packs for it and holy shit it was fun. I made horrendous looking homes and my sims looked as good as anybody could manage considering how ugly the graphics are on that game. But it was fun. I loved having teens break curfew and running from the police, I loved doing affair plots and getting pop ups that a friend witnessed the affair and would proceed to tell my sim’s spouse which would inevitably lead to a lot of drama. I loved the songs on the stations and the slow dance animation.
Sims 3 was fun. Did it lag like a mother fucker? Yes, but I never cared or noticed much because I was having fun. I would take breaks for days or weeks but always enjoyed it when I came back to it.
Then Sims 4 came out and I didn’t buy it for several years because I watched people play it soon after release and it looked soul sucking. The world map was white and dead, the build buy options were almost non existent, the cas options also weren’t all that great and gameplay was severely lacking.
I myself didn’t buy it until they relented and finally allowed players to do away with gender constructs and let people put female items on male sims and vice versa. And I had fun, not nearly as much fun as I ever had with any of the past games, but fun. I bought every pack that came out mostly just to have gameplay of some kind and also in hopes of better clothes and build items.
Then more years later I found out about mods and custom content and that was a game changer for me. I have so much cc in my game it is unreal and when I think about it in terms of cas I use custom content I downloaded way more often than any of the items that came with any packs I have paid $20-$40 for which is not great.
Build buy i primarily use content I got with each pack because I like a lot of the items, when it comes to flooring and wallpaper I tend to use way more cc than pack content.
What bothers me is with past Sims games I never had to do this. I never wanted to, I was perfectly content with what the games had to offer me. Also gameplay.
I have spent so so much money over the years praying each pack that I purchase will improve the game, that it will add a feature that will breathe life into the game instead of me having to use my imagination and pretend anything is actually happening other than essentially watching fish in a fish bowl swim around until they die.
The thing is it still is just that. Fish in a bowl.
There is literally none of the drama or depth unless you force it to exist. There are no real consequences to affairs, the person being cheated on if they catch you will become upset sometimes, but two minutes later they will autonomously be talking and joking with their cheating spouse and the affair partner as if nothing happened at all. Kids have no curfew unless you force it to happen and even then not much comes of breaking it. The game is overly forgiving for a game that touted itself as being advanced.
With past games your sims would do cool shit while left unchecked, you could watch drama unfold, lives could be ruined. With sims 4 you get none of that. Even killing a sim is significantly more difficult in this game. Also ghosts irritate me because they are essentially another life state that will nonstop text and call asking to hang out unlike past games where they were this spooky addition who only appeared at night and were gone with the morning light. Now they’re just there 24/7 constantly breaking sinks and fridges and tubs. Your living sims seldom even react to ghosts except to chat or flirt with them unlike past games where a ghost sighting would scare them. Also the lack of cemeteries means you do just have a ghost annoying you nonstop unless you essentially delete them and per usual that doesn’t always work.
That is my main issue
Things don’t work. The game is broken in the most irritating ways that make it un fun to play. I haven’t been able to play with the horse aspect of the Horse Ranch pack because horses are broken. When I try and get them to eat they glitch and stand there until their needs drop drastically due to neglect. Then my game crashes.
For Rent has my game running so painfully slowly even with mods and custom content turned off and frequently it is impossible to find the option to make an apartment lot, then another issue is the inability to rent to anybody except whatever household I’m playing as.
Sims 4 tends to be more stressful than fun to play. So much of the game is broken and unplayable that I end up shutting it off in pure frustration. An issue I never had with the other games.
Most time playing the game is spent editing townies and editing homes and lots to look good, I seldom actually play the game beyond that.
I would say I wish the game will improve but I know it won’t. The team working on it are incompetent and each stream promoting new packs just irritate me because they never seem actually into what they’re selling. Plus by the way the For Rent stream was bad and the one chick saying she didn’t like any of the new hair for female sims because they remind her of her mom was weird as Hell. Also watching them try and hype people up about a lot that just has plants on it and several rabbit holes was annoying.
Will Sims 5 be good? No. I have genuinely no faith whatsoever in that game.

Right, time for my confession. I did not come up with the floor plan or general design of the building. I usually suck at building and I don't like looking at official floorplans.
But I've recently discovered @anibats's Tumblr and YouTube channel, and her content is STUNNING. From the CC she uses to the machinima she makes, it's all so pretty!
I would highly recommend watching her The Vicious series she made - I won't lie, it made me bawl my eyes out, it was so tender and realistic.
I thrive off realism in both my series and playing the game itself. She opened my eyes to a few more mods and ways of playing a school without having to necessarily use Simlogical items.
And she also had some neat ideas for fixing crashing in game, and I must say, the fix that her partner did seems to be working in my game! 😀😘

1. What’s your favourite sims death? hmm i forgot all the sims deaths lmao but it's probably one of the very specific rare deaths from expansion packs in ts3, there's some. very weird ones lmao

I love puzzle games so much, and I also grew up on Left for Dead and Resident Evil because of my older brother !! As well as other games like Fallout, COD and Halo. I also fucking lovedddd Animal Jam, I have no clue if you know that game, but I loved scamming people. Anyway- yeah college is a pain, at least this specific class I’m in right now is, which is…English. And see I usually enjoy English but this teacher has been dragging out this one assignment for over 3 weeks now and I’m losing my mind ! But it’s okay cause here in maybe 5 months or so I’m going to actually be taking classes I find interesting. I’m getting an Associates in IT, concentrating on Game Development. :D
