i think the most important thing in the world is vbs being best friends who love each other so much and are super affectionate with each other like. listen to me:
- when toya hugs kohane he'll pick her up a tiny bit (a tiny bit is all he can manage. noodle arms) and she squeals with delight every time
- toya just really likes hugs in general. it's suuuuper common for him to just come up behind akito or an or kohane and wrap his arms around them and lean his head against theirs. hello and goodbye hugs with him always last a good 20 seconds because he won't let go sdjfjsnfkd
- kohane loooooves to tuck her hand in the crooks of her teammates' elbows while they're walking together. this way she won't get lost <3 sometimes she'll hold onto like, akito's elbow with one hand and an's with the other. it's very cute. and as vbs has grown closer, she's started to switch to hand holding. (don't tell anyone but akito's her favorite to hold hands with because he swings their arms as they walk and it's cute)
- also, kohane's hair tends to be messy because of her damn hats and this bugs akito so he spends a lot of time fussing over it. he'll just sort of...tug her closer and take out the pigtails and comb through it with his fingers. at some point she starts packing a brush in her bag to placate him. i like to think akito knows how to do hair because ena will sometimes make him do hers so after a while he stops just rebrushing kohane's hair and starts pulling it up in different ways... braiding it... etc... and he starts keeping things like hairspray in His bag. yknow. jic
- the hairstyling extravaganza extends to an and toya too. (i mean there's only so much akito can do with toya but he tries...) it's a calming thing for him - fiddling with his teammates' hair as they plan setlists or wait backstage. and having your hair played with is always nice <3
- i think shortly after teaming up an started giving kohane little kisses on the cheek. not as a romantic gesture - just simple affection! and after a while, she starts kissing toya and akito too. toya is always happy to lean down so she can pepper his face with little platonic kisses, but she usually has to wrestle akito. it's all in good fun and he'll always relent and let her kiss him in the end
- speaking of platonic kisses, i ALSO think that akito gives toya little kisses from time to time. it started back when they were still BAD DOGS. toya wasn't having a great time one night and after soothing him with a good sturdy hug, akito kissed the top of his head. it completely floored toya and akito blew up when he realized what he did. and they never fucking talked about it <3 but since toya didn't seem MAD about it, akito decided to stick with it and kept giving toya kisses like that. it's not common, and he ONLY does it when they're alone. except for when they make up after their little divorce arc in the main story. IGNORE the gunjo sanka mv and listen to me. they HUG after their heart to heart. and akito kisses toya's cheek. right around where he punched him
- but an's overaffectionate nature kind of rubs off on akito after a while. so he becomes less stingy when it comes to kisses and starts giving them to kohane and an too <3
- they lean against each other while sitting like kohane might cuddle into toya's side or an goes and lays her head on akito's shoulder
- and they have sleepovers and they fall asleep comfortably tangled up together (or not comfortably. at all. seriously cuddling while sleeping can get so uncomfy but it's worth it to be so close to someone you love). ken's taken quite a few adorable (and sometimes really funny) pictures of all four of them passed out on piles of blankets and futons. just dad things
i could go on forever it's just. platonic affection is so important to me and it's so frequently Ignored in fandom spaces. and in the case of vbs and the prsk fandom specifically, there's a tendency to separate vbs into akitoya VS anhane. which is so 💔 because the whole POINT of their story is that while they started off as separate duos, that's no longer the case! they've become such good friends. they're inseparable.
like even jokes about akito and an being "wlw and mlm hostility" are starting to wear on me because... they're friends, guys. they're incredibly close. akito is always looking out for an and is right by her side to support her through all the shit she's currently struggling with. there's no "hostility" present in their relationship. like, if you actually look at the game's text, an... rarely teases akito. the person who teases him the most is actually toya but you know... whatever... gotta reduce an down to a mean lesbian amirite... completely ignoring that she's one of the kindest characters in the whole game...
idk. i juuuuuust wish that this fandom wasn't so defensive and obsessive over shipping akitoya and anhane (mostly akitoya while anhane is a second thought but YOU KNOW) because it results in so many people watering down vbs as individuals And as pairs - because all they care about is shipping. like i promise that the other dynamics in vbs are worth exploring (both platonicallyand romantically but too much of this fandom still feels threatened by m/f vbs ships). and hell, explore akitoya and anhane on a platonic level, too! don't just jump to shipping them because teehee boyxboy and girlxgirl. take the time to understand what draws them together in the first place
i love friendship. i love when friends outwardly express their affection for each other and it doesn't have to have any romantic implications. can we talk about friendship for once like this game is literally The Ultimate Friendship Simulator feat. Hatsune Miku

“Don’t tell me that’s as fast as you can run, KyoKyo!” you called over your shoulder at the orange-haired boy. You and Kyo had decided that you would have a race to see who was faster by running all the way to school. So far, you were winning, being a good few feet ahead of him.
The school came into view and you grinned, loving how easy a win this was for you. Once you made it to your homeroom, you flopped into your chair, breathing heavily. Kyo came in a few minutes later, huffing and falling into the chair in front of you.
“You lost, again.” you pointed out with a grin, making the orange-haired boy scowl at you.
“You won’t win next time, Y/N!” he yelled, pointing a finger at you as his hair stood up in the form of cat ears.
You chuckled, leaning back in your chair. “You say the same thing every time, KyoKyo.”
“And stop calling me that!” he yelled again before getting hit in the head with Yuki’s backpack – which had been filled with quite a few books. “What the hell was that for!?”
“You shouldn’t be yelling in class,” Yuki responded, quietly as he took a seat at his desk behind the one next to you. Tohru smiled, sitting next to Kyo as her two best friends, Arisa and Hana came walking in. Hana sat behind you while Arisa sat behind Tohru. The teacher walked in a few minutes later.
You, of course, weren’t paying much attention to the lesson. Arisa turned to you and Kyo, “You two up for a game of rich man, poor man after school?”
You shrugged, “I was planning on playing some basketball after school.”
Kyo nodded, “So was I.”
Arisa grinned, “Alright then. I’ll play, too. Me and Y/N against you.”
“That’s not fair!” Kyo whispered harshly, glaring at the Yankie.
“Fine. Me and Y/N versus you and Yuki.” she changed her answer, shrugging.
“There’s no way I’m playing with that rat!” he hissed.
“That damn cat would ruin the game, anyway,” Yuki added.
“What was that you damned rat!?” Kyo jumped up in his seat, pointing a finger at the prince.
“Kyo! Is there a problem?” The teacher asked, stopping her lesson to look at the orange-haired boy. Kyo shook his head and sat down, a small tint of pink coming to his cheeks. “Then please be quiet and pay attention.”
Arisa sniggered, earning a burning glare from the cat.
“Instead, why don’t the four of you play against each other.” Hana suggested, quietly, “Play a game of HORSE, perhaps, since you can’t seem to figure out teams.”
The three of you looked at each other before shrugging and chorusing, “Sure.”
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
After school ended, you all headed for the basketball courts that sat out behind the school. Hana and Tohru had decided to watch, while the rest of us played against each other. We decided that it’d be played out like a normal basketball game, with the same basic rules as HORSE.
You try to shoot a basket, if you get it in, you don’t get a letter. If you miss, you get a letter. The first to spell out HORSE looses. You’re also allowed to try and steal the ball and stop the others from scoring.
You were just getting ready to play when Haru and Momiji walked up, watching the four of you curiously. “What’re you guys doing?” Momiji asked.
“I’m kicking KyoKyo’s ass!” “I’m kicking the Rat’s ass!” “I’m kicking the cat’s ass!” “I’m kicking the orange’s ass!” You all chorused at the same time.
Haru raised his eyebrow, taking a seat next to Tohru. Momiji sat on the other side of him.
“Let’s do this!” Arisa grinned, throwing the basketball into the air.
You jumped up and grabbed it before taking off running down the court, dribbling the ball and throwing it towards the basket before the other three could catch you. You smirked when it went in and dived for the ball, but Yuki got to it first, dribbling it away from Kyo before throwing it and making it into the basket.
Kyo scowled and dived for it before it hit the ground, grabbing it and dodging a kick thrown at him by Arisa. He took off for the opposite end of the court but ended up tripping, throwing the ball in the process. We all watched in silence as the ball spun around the top, leaning back and forth. You and Arisa grinned, however, when the ball fell backward.
“Haha! KyoKyo got an H!” Arisa laughed, pointing at the orange-haired boy who was still on the ground, his face red from either anger or embarrassment – possibly a combination of both.
“Aww, don’t be mad, Kyo!” Momiji squealed, hugging Kyo tightly despite his protests.
“Get this brat off of me!” Kyo screamed, running around the court trying to shake off the giggling rabbit.
“So much for basketball.” Yuki sighed from beside you.
“I say we leave them,” you suggested.
“Agreed.” Yuki started walking back towards Shigure’s house and you followed close behind. You could still hear Kyo’s yelling and Momiji’s whining as you walked farther and farther away from the school.
“That damn cat is too loud,” Yuki commented as you reached Shigure’s house. As soon as you stepped inside, Shigure came running, holding his arms out.
“Y/N!” he smiled brightly as he came closer. You stepped out of the way just before he reached you and he ran into the wall behind you.
“Same old Shigure,” you muttered, taking a seat at the table.
“You’re so cold, Y/N!” Shigure whined, sitting across from you.
You shrugged as Kyo, Momiji, Haru, and Tohru appeared in the doorway.
“I can’t believe you left us!” Kyo scowled, sitting next to you.
“Not my fault you’re an idiot.” you scoffed.
Haru sat on the other side of you, while Momiji sat next to Shigure. Tohru went into the kitchen to make some tea.
“Shi-chan! Can Haru and I spend the night? Huh, huh? Can we?” Momiji asked, excitedly, his eyes sparkling.
“Well, I don’t know.” Shigure started, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Say no, Shigure!” Kyo growled, “Say it!”
“Does Akito know about this?” Shigure asked, softly, looking over at Haru.
“We asked him this morning. He said it was alright as long as we came back tomorrow morning.” Haru answered, quietly.
You found yourself smiling at the sound of his voice. It was always so soothing to you. That’s right, you had a huge crush on Hatsuharu Sohma. You’ve been meaning to tell him, honestly, you were just waiting for the right time….which may just be never.
“Y/N?” you snapped out of your thoughts and looked up at Shigure, “You zoned out on us.”
“Oh, sorry.” you smiled, sheepishly.
Shigure smiled, grabbing your hand. You noticed Haru narrow his eyes at him sharply, but you shrugged it off. “You’re more than welcome to stay, too! In fact, you can stay in my room!”
“If she’s staying, she’ll be in Miss Honda’s room. Not yours.” Yuki said softly, coming back into the room.
“I’d love to stay.” you smiled. Shigure looked hopeful and your smile dropped, eye twitching in annoyance, “I’d stay in Kyo’s room before I would yours, Shigure!”
He frowned, running a hand through his hair, “You really can be so cold.”
“The only reason you’re going after me is because I’m a high schooler.” you scoffed. “You won’t have any interest when I graduate!”
“You make me sound so bad, Y/N!” he pouted.
“You are!” You, Yuki, and Kyo chorused.
Shigure sighed in defeat and retreated back to his room, mumbling something about a deadline. Tohru came back in, carrying a tray full of tea filled cups, setting one down in front of each of you.
“I wanna sleep with Tohru!” Momiji smiled, leaping to hug the brown-haired girl.
“No way!” Kyo and Yuki chorused, grabbing onto the back of his shirt before he could make contact.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
You sighed deeply as you sprawled out on the floor of Tohru’s bedroom. She had offered you her bed, but you declined, saying that the floor was fine. She had taken some pillows and a blanket, making you a soft pallet to sleep on. You rolled over onto your side and closed your eyes, falling into unconsciousness.
When you opened your eyes again, it was already two in the morning. Rolling over onto your other side, you jumped slightly, seeing Haru sleeping peacefully next to you.
You smiled softly, reaching forward to brush a few strands of white hair from his face. He stirred, opening his eyes and looking over at you. “Kyo and Yuki will kill you if they find you in here.”
He shrugged, shifting so he could rest his head on your chest. “It’s worth it,”
“Haru,” you whispered, your fingers playing with his white hair. It only took a few minutes before his breath evened out, letting you know that he was once again asleep.
You couldn’t help but wonder why he believed it was worth it or why he wanted to sleep with you to begin with.
You were one of the few people that knew the secret of the Sohma family. More importantly, you were one of the few people that didn’t trigger the curse. That made you a special person to the family.
Pushing the millions of thoughts rushing through your mind aside, you closed your eyes, letting the darkness overcome you until you drifted off, arms wrapped around Haru’s body.
━━━━━━༻🌧️༺━━━━━━
The next morning, you woke to the sound of high-pitched awwwing. Opening your eyes, you groaned at the bright light shining in through the window.
“Morning sunshine.” Shigure grinned as he stood over you, “Did the two of you sleep well?”
“Two of us?” you muttered, rubbing your eyes. That’s when last night came back to you. Looking down, you found Haru still sleeping peacefully on your chest, not disturbed by Shigure’s loud mouth or the blinding light.
“I think now would be a good time to tell him, don’t you think?” Shigure winked before leaving the room, shutting the door behind him. Tohru wasn’t in her bed and it had been made already. You assumed she had woken up a while ago.
You sighed, doing your best to slide out from under him. You turned on your side, watching his content face as his chest rose and fell. You brushed the hair away from his eyes and smiled, “You really are adorable, Haru.”
“You think so?” he murmured tiredly, cracking his eyes open.
“Yeah, I do.”
He stared into your eyes, his fingertips brushing your cheek. “You’re beautiful. Did you know that?”
“Coming from you, that really means a lot.” you murmured, trying to ignore the heat rising to your face.
“That’s good to know. Maybe this will too, then.” He grabbed your shirt, pulling you over so that your lips crashed again his own. It took you a minute to get over your surprise, but then you closed your eyes, kissing him back with just as much passion as he was using.
An insistent knocking on the door caused you and Haru to break away, just in time for Momiji to come running in. “Come on, Haru. We promised to be back, remember?”
Haru nodded and stood, kissing your cheek before leaving the room. You sat there, wondering just what that kiss meant to him.
“Y/N?” Tohru called, knocking on the door before opening it. “Yuki and I are going to the market to get some groceries. Would you like to come?”
“No thank you.” you smiled, politely. “I’ll just stay here.”
“Alright. Kyo went off with Shigure if you’re wondering.” she smiled before leaving the room.
You waited until you were sure they were gone before getting dressed and leaving the house. You decided that taking a walk through the park was just what the doctor ordered.
Taking in a deep breath, you took a seat on the park bench, looking around at the lush green trees as they swayed in the cool breeze. The kiss kept replaying in your head. It was killing you not knowing what meaning lay hidden on Haru’s lips. You had to know if he liked you back, but could you really just walk up to him and ask?
While debating with yourself whether or not you should be blunt and ask him about it, a rustling in the bushes alerted you to something nearby. You stood up and walked over to the bush. Now, most people probably would have approached cautiously, but you threw caution to the wind. ‘What’s the worst I could find?’
You didn’t expect what you found. Behind the bush was a large black and white cow with earrings in its ear and clothes spread out on the ground around it.
He nudged you lightly with his head. “I’m freezing,”
You chuckled, leaning down and wrapping your arms around the large animal, “You should have worn your coat, Haru.”
“I didn’t want to.” he snorted, rubbing his head against yours, “Hatori wouldn’t quit yelling at me about taking my coat. It made me not want to.”
You ruffled the soft patch of hair on his head, “Such a rebel~”
He nodded, his voice low and soft as his nose pressed against your neck. “A rebel in love,”
“Eh?” you asked in surprise, staring at him. He huffed, warm air coming out of his nose as he snuggled his large body closer, trying to get some of the warmth your body offered. “Who… Who are you in love with?” you asked, scared of the answer. Even so, you had decided to support him even if he had feelings for someone else.
He was about to respond when there was a poof and a cloud of smoke. When the smoke cleared, there was Haru in all his naked glory.  He blinked thoughtfully before tackling you to the ground, sitting on your stomach and putting his hands on either side of your head. “The answer to your question is quite simple. I was planning on letting you figure it out on your own, but I’m not so sure I can wait that long.”
Your heart raced as you tried not to think about his naked body hovering over your own. ‘Damn him for being so attractive!’ “What’re you talking about, Haru?”
“Shigure was right.” he murmured, “People really are oblivious to others’ feelings. You can’t see mine, and I didn’t see yours until Shigure told me.”
You stared up at the clear sky as you pieced the puzzle together in your mind. Just when you were about to finish the puzzle, he placed his lips on yours. You responded instantly, your lips fitting perfectly together. You could feel his passion and love in the kiss. He bit your lip softly before pulling away just enough for his lips to ghost yours.
“I’m in love with you, Y/N. I have been since I first met you,” he confessed.
“I love you, too, Haru.” You pulled him down into another kiss, “I always have and I always will.”
The wind blew, causing Haru to shiver.
You sweatdropped, pushing him off of you. “Let’s get you dressed before you catch a cold, okay?”
He nodded, watching as you gathered his clothes from the bushes.

On Frogs and Other Matters
Pairings: Kyoya Ootori x Reader
Genre/Rating: G, angst-to-fluff
Words: 4,200
Summary: a request from Anon for a family friend reader whom one of Kyoya’s brothers has a crush on! I know technically this isn’t canon-compliant because Yuuichi is married in the manga but let’s just ignore that, k? Enjoy! :D
“Kyoya.”
“Kyooooooooyaaaaaaaaaaa.”
A socked foot slowly sneaks over the top edge of Kyoya’s laptop, wiggling enticingly. To his credit, the boy studiously typing away doesn’t even acknowledge the intrusion-that is, until the toes attached to said foot decide to start erroneously pressing keys here and there.
“What.”
“I’m bored.”
“We just started the movie ten minutes ago.”
“I know, but you’re not even watching it!”
“I have seen this movie approximately eleven and a half times. I think I can spare missing another viewing.”
“But it’s a masterpiece!”
“So you’ve said.”
You sigh and hug a pillow to your chest, squishing your chin down into the top of it as you watch Tiana kiss Frog-Naveen. Absently, you wonder what it might be like to kiss the boy across the couch from you- only for your waking mind to squash that thought into a bloody pulp and toss it back where it came from. Kyoya and you are friends. Best friends. And you’ll be damned if you ruin over a decade of being partners in crime just because you’ve developed some… interesting feelings over the past year or so.
“The whole point of putting on the movie was so you would stop working.”
“I am an excellent multitasker.”
You groan and let your head flop back onto the arm of the sofa you’re leaning up against. “Maybe the club should do a Princess and the Frog theme day.”
That statement warrants an eyebrow quirk. “Oh really?”
“Yes really. Tamaki would be Naveen, obviously, he’s all-” you wave a hand in the air- “-schmoozy. Aaaaaaaaand Renge could be Charlotte.” You gasp. “Nekozawa as Dr. Facilier! It’s perfect!”
Kyoya makes a noncommittal noise. “And who would I be?”
“Well Tiana, of course.”
This time you get an eyebrow raise and he actually looks at you. “Tiana.”
“Well yeah! You’re both always running yourself into the ground.”
“I do not-”
You neatly close the lid of his laptop with your foot, trapping his fingers underneath. “Do too.”
He glares at you, though it lacks fire. “I haven’t saved that.”
“Come on Kyoya, just an hour or two of no computer, no fielding crazy phone calls from Tamaki-”
“-if I don’t answer he’s likely to set himself or his house on fire, or both-”
“And no complaining!” You fix him with your signature look, the one that convinced him to let you buy out a whole store’s worth of donuts on national donut day when you were seven. You made it though fifteen before you were ready to hurl- during which Kyoya dutifully held your hair back and got you some water afterwards.
Kyoya stares at you for a moment, the look in his eyes unreadable behind the glint of his lenses. Then he adjusts his glasses on the bridge of his nose and sighs. “Fine. One hour.”
“Yes!” You lightly smack him with the pillow you’re cuddling as he sets his precious baby laptop on the floor. “The twelfth and a half viewing is the best, I promise.”
“Somehow I highly doubt that.”
By the time Ray is crunched under Dr. Facilier’s boot, you’re sniffling (this part always gets you) and also curled up next to Kyoya. His arm is thrown lazily around you, and you have to resist the urge to reach up and tangle your fingers together. No sense in making it weird- the two of you have been close, including physically, since you were kids. You even share his bed during sleepovers half the time. But it always remains platonic. You’ve given Kyoya plenty of time to make a move, and he never has- which means he doesn’t think of you that way at all. So you’re content, if a little sad, to keep the closeness between you free of anything romantic.
“Knock knock, I’m coming in. If you’re doing anything unseemly I suggest you stop now.” Kyoya’s brother Yuuichi cracks open the door to the den you and Kyoya are currently occupying.
Though you can’t see his face, you know Kyoya is rolling his eyes, and you scrunch up your nose playfully at the newcomer. “Hi, Yuuichi.”
“Y/N.” Yuuichi nods his head at you. “Will you be staying for dinner? Father already told the maids to set an extra place.”
“Did you just insinuate I might miss the two of you arguing about business-whatever?” You put a hand to your chest in mock-surprise. “You wound me.”
“I thought so.” His voice is warm. “The food will be ready within the hour.” He pauses as he studies the images on the screen. “The Princess and the Frog? Again?”
“It’s a masterpiece!” You and Kyoya both say, as in sync as the Hitachiin twins, though the enthusiasm is on completely different levels.
Yuuichi shakes his head as he leaves the door ajar, and you turn your attention back to the film. Though you keep up a consistent string of commentary, Kyoya is noticeably silent. “Hey. Something wrong?”
“I- no. It’s nothing.”
Well you’re certainly not going to let that one go. You shift away so that you can face him, and give his shoulder a poke. “C’mon. Out with it.”
“My family likes you.”
“Well, yeah. What’s not to like?”
Kyoya looks sideways at you with a hurt look on his face. “Y/N, you know what I mean. My family doesn’t even like me.”
“Oh, Ky.” You brush a piece of hair out of his eyes. “They love you, I know they do, they just…” you wince a little. “…have an interesting way of showing it.” The two of you sit for a moment in the dark room, credits rolling on screen. Your hand lingers where it tucked his hair behind his ear. If you were brave enough, this would be the moment where you’d lean in and kiss him, just once, so he’d know that even though he’s never enough for his family he’s more than enough for you.
But you’re a coward, so you let your hand fall away and tug him off the couch instead. “C’mon, I’m starving. And I’ll even let you tell me all the ways your father and brother are messing up the company after we’re done eating.”
The smile that ticks onto his lips almost makes you sign in relief. “You know me too well.”
“It’s a gift.”
Dinner with the entire Ootori family is always an interesting affair. Whereas you’re used to just quietly raiding the fridge with Kyoya and taking your spoils back to his room, a proper supper is a very formal event. The dining room is laid out with china and utensils that most likely cost more than your house, and there’s enough food to feed their private army, much less the five of you. Plus, you never know what sort of mood Yoshio will be in. Luckily, Kyoya’s observation was a bit of an understatement- his family doesn’t just like you, they love you. You’re usually able to diffuse whatever tension is at the table with a joke or a story and get Kyoya out alive and without bursting a blood vessel before the dishes are cleared. Prepping something mildly witty in your head that will hopefully put Yoshio in a good mood, you wander the hallways, in no rush to get to dinner. Kyoya stepped away to answer a call from Tamaki- you hadn’t heard anything but incoherent shrieking on the other end so loud it made him pull the phone away from his ear. You shake your head- hopefully Kyoya can talk him down within the next ten minutes, or else you’ll be facing the family alone.
In your contemplating, you walk right into someone’s side, almost knocking the two of you over. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry- Fuyumi!”
Kyoya’s sister turns, and her face immediately brightens when she sees you. “Y/N!” The both of you crash together into a hug, giggling like school girls. How are you, imouto? It’s been so long!”
You laugh and straighten her hair from where your hug mussed it up. After Kyoya, Fuyumi is probably your second favorite person in the world. You’ve spent plenty of nights painting each other’s nails and gossiping when Kyoya burying himself in his work and being too much of a git to hang out with you.  “We called just last week!”
“My statement stands,” she says with a wink. “Are you staying for dinner? We have so much to catch up on!” You nod in affirmation and she grins. “Good.” She slips her arm through yours and locks the two of you side by side. “So, what have I missed?”
You sigh and shrug a shoulder. “Not much, really. School is fine, the boys are crazy as usual. Hikaru and Kaoru are fighting over god knows what and actually dyed their hair different colors to differentiate themselves.”
“Hm.” There’s a twinkle in her eye. “And how are things with Kyoya?”
“Fuyumi!” You frantically glance over your shoulder, making sure no one is around to hear the two of you. “Hush, seriously!” You’d been forced to confess your burgeoning crush when she’d called you out for acting weird a few months ago. She made it abundantly clear she approved of the idea, and has subtly been trying to nudge the two of you together ever since, much to your dismay. “Everything is fine how it is, thank you very much.”
“If you say so,” she says in a singsong way, pulling open the door to the dining room. “Oh, you two would just be so cute together-”
“MR. OOTORI!” You practically scream, effectively overshadowing Fuyumi’s words. “Thanks for inviting me to dinner!” You shoot the other girl a death glare before putting a nice face on for Kyoya’s father. “It’s very kind of you.”
“Of course, of course, it’s no trouble at all.” He smiles at you warmly before extending a hand for you to shake. “Anything for our dear Y/N. How are you? Keeping up with your studies?”
You chat with him pleasantly as everyone else filters into the room. Fuyumi takes a seat to your right, leaving the chair next to you but farthest from Yoshio for Kyoya. Yuuichi is already seated next to his father, tapping something on his phone, and finally Akito filters in, a medical journal tucked under his arm. He waves at you, and you give a salute back.
“Did Kyoya abandon you again?” Akito sits primly on the edge of his chair across from you. “Honestly, I don’t know why you stick around with him like you do.”
Internally, you sigh. You like Akito well enough, but he’s always ragging on his brother, and it grates your nerves like nothing else. “No, he’s just talking Tamaki down from some harebrained scheme.”
The boy harrumphs in disapproval. “That club will be the death of him. He should be focusing on his studies.”
“He does! He’s top of our class for heaven’s sake. If anything, I think the host club keeps him sane most of the time.” Out of the corner of your eye, you keep track of Yoshio and Yuuichi’s conversation, hoping they’re too busy to notice Akito’s topic of choice. If his father starts railing on him as well, there’s no stopping it, and Kyoya doesn’t need to walk into a room where everyone is discussing him.
Luckily, the conversation dies down when Kyoya tugs open the door and slips though. “My apologies for being late, everyone. I had some business to take care of.”
“It’s fine,” you say quickly, before anyone else can argue. “We just started.” You pat the chair next to you and he gives you a grateful look before sliding into his seat.
Thankfully, dinner proceeds fairly mundanely. You and Fuyumi chat about girl stuff, with Kyoya chiming in every so often in between texting the host club group chat under the table. You nudge his leg with your knee whenever his father or brother asks him a question so it looks like he’s paying attention, and Akito thankfully goes back to his reading.
“Well, another excellent meal!” Yuuichi folds his napkin delicately and places it next to his plate. “I’m afraid I have to run soon, but first, I have something of an announcement to make.”
You glance at Kyoya, who looks just as confused as you are. No one else seems to know what’s happening either, except for Yoshio, who sits back in his chair expectantly with a pleased look on his face.
Then, Yuuichi turns to you.
“Y/N, you have been a treasured family friend for years now, and I have had the distinct pleasure of watching you grow into a lovely and witty young woman. And I must say, if I may, that I have found myself quite taken with you over the past year.” He pauses to take a sip from his glass of wine, seemingly considering his next words. “After much consideration… Y/N, would you do me the honor of accompanying me out next Saturday night?”
Throughout his mini-speech, you’ve been staring blankly at him with an affable smile on your face, not really taking in his words. It isn’t until Yuuichi looks at you with a confident, hopeful smile that his intent sinks in.
For a few long moments, it feels as though everything has frozen in place.
Yoshio is looking on like he’s already envisioning you walking down the aisle. Akito seems surprised, his thumb paused over the next page of his book. Fuyumi’s eyes widen almost imperceptibly, and you catch her gaze with an absolutely frantic look.
And Kyoya goes… cold.
It takes a second for you to realize that everyone is staring at you expectantly, and you brighten your voice, trying to shake off the heavy coat of fear that has just been draped over your shoulders. “Oh, Yuuichi, that’s… wow, that’s so unexpected-”
“I know it must seem sudden.” He gives a gentle shrug. “But I found myself unable to wait any longer.”
“What an excellent idea!” Yoshio beams at the small gathering, placing one hand over his son’s in an encouraging gesture. Simultaneously, your hand is latched onto Fuyumi’s knee under the table, trying to steady yourself. “What a beautiful couple the two of you will make! Don’t you believe so, Akito, Fuyumi?”
Akito murmurs his assent, but Fuyumi stutters as your grip tightens. “Um, yes, well.. I suppose it is up to Y/N, isn’t it?” She finds your fingers under the tablecloth and gently squeezes back, as though she’s saying sorry she can’t help you out.
What do you do?
Yuuichi’s declaration is not something said lightly. If you accept, you’re basically agreeing to a marriage. Sure, not right away, but a few years down the line… if you say yes, there’s no way you could ever break it off without severing the relations between your family and the Ootoris, which would be suicide. The media would be all over it; the business community would hound you for years. You can’t say no. You can’t.
And yet, you find yourself about to do exactly that. Because deep down, you know your heart belongs to Kyoya. And even though being cut off from him and his family will hurt like hell, it won’t hurt nearly as bad as watching him from afar for the rest of your life while you stand beside his brother.
“You should accept.” Kyoya’s calm voice shatters your thoughts like shards of ice. “I… what?”
“You should accept, of course.” He doesn’t move as he speaks, and his words are as emotionless as a smooth lake on a clear day. “It is a generous proposal, one that would benefit both of our families.” He pauses for the span of a breath. Two. “And, from what I’ve seen, you do not have any other propositions coming, yes?”
Your heart stills.
He doesn’t mean that.
Does he?
All these years of being attached at the hip… and these last few months, when you’ve desperately hoped that he might want something more… it all comes crashing down about your ears in a thunderous cacophony of heartbreak. If he’s so willing to see you given to his brother… you don’t mean anything to him, not really. He’s perfectly fine seeing you live your life so close, yet so far away. Something in you steels and hardens. Well then. If he’s fine with it, why shouldn’t you be?
Without looking at the boy next to you, you bow your head. “You’re right, of course.” You give Yuuichi a genuine smile that does nothing to lighten the dullness in your eyes. “I am flattered and honored, Yuuichi. Of course I will accompany you.”
“Excellent!” Yoshio waves for a butler, who emerges with a tray of something bubbly. “Such a happy occasion calls for a toast! To the new happy couple!”
Your fate is sealed in a matter of seconds. You watch your future flash before your eyes, and the chains of the accompanying life wrap around your wrists like vices.
Somewhere in your subconscious, you crystallize the part of your heart that belongs to Kyoya- his smile, his quick wit, the spark in his eyes as he laughs at your jokes- and shatter it, willing it to spread amongst the stars like fireflies in the night. No matter what happens, nobody will ever be able to claim they have all of your love. Some of it will live on, quietly, reminding you of what could have been every time you look at the sky.
“If you’ll excuse me, I believe I’ll go tell my mother the good news.” Your voice is impressively even as you push your chair back and stand. “Please, enjoy yourselves. I will be back shortly.” Crystal glasses clink amongst themselves as you leave the room, shoulders straight and head held high.
The façade lasts as long as it takes you to hide amongst the cherry blossoms blooming in the back gardens of the Ootori’s mansion. As you press your back up against the trunk of a tree, tears begin to stream down your cheeks, and you shove the heels of your hands at your eyes, willing yourself to get it together. You only succeed in letting a sob escape from your chest and out into the night air. You stand there curled in on yourself, with only the whispering branches above you for comfort, as you let out muffled cries and wrap your arms around yourself in effort to keep yourself from falling apart completely.
Eventually, you find yourself laid back on the ground, head tucked amongst the roots of a cherry blossom, watching the stars waver between flowering branches. You’ve completely forgotten about your promise to rejoin the group- you’ve forgotten pretty much anything requiring conscious thought. Everything is just… numb. At least the breeze is warm as it dries the salt on your cheeks.
“Y/N? Are you out here?” Soft footsteps disturb pebbles somewhere behind you.
Quickly, you wipe your face and clear your throat. “Yeah, I’m here!” You make sure to keep your voice light. “Just got off the phone, sorry. Didn’t mean to keep everyone waiting.”
“Father sent me to find you. He says you have a lot to discuss…” Kyoya trails off, and shuffles a little closer to you. “Are you… okay?”
“Juuuuust peachy.” You can’t keep the bitterness out of your voice. “These are tears of happiness, you know? ‘Cause I’m just so… happy.”
“You’re… not happy?”
There’s genuine confusion in his voice, like he can’t believe you wouldn’t be thrilled with this sudden arrangement, and the anger that flares up in your chest at his words is enough to get you standing and facing him.
“Of course I’m not happy, you ass! Why would I ever…” Your voice breaks. “Never mind. I’ll go… talk to your father.”
You go to brush past him, almost shoulder-checking him on the way, but he catches your wrist before you can get far. “Wait. Why aren’t you happy? Tell me.”
“God, for someone so smart you are such an idiot!” You whip around, yanking your wrist from his grasp. “Maybe because I’m not, have never been, and never will be interested in your brother?! I mean, he’s nice enough, but…ugh!”
“Why wouldn’t you be?” Kyoya’s voice rises, and you take a step back. It’s rare he actually raises his voice, much less shouts. “He’s perfect! He’s the firstborn son, he’s inheriting the company, he’ll get everything he ever wants-!”
“Because I like YOU, YOU ABSOLUTE ASS!” Mindlessly, you shove his shoulders, forcing him away from you. “I could care less about the freaking Ootori Group! They could drop off the face of the earth for all I care! I just want to watch stupid movies with you and fall asleep doing homework at 2AM and make up ridiculous themes for the host club and… but you don’t even care, I should have known…” you back up, tripping over roots you can’t see in the dark. “I just… I need to go. Tell everyone I’ll- I don’t know, make something up.”
Walking away from Kyoya in that moment is the most painful thing you’ve ever done. Whoever said confession makes the heart feel lighter clearly hasn’t ever been in love, because admitting your feelings to his face just makes you feel like death.
“Y/N.”
You sigh, trying to ignore even more tears threatening to escape. “What, Kyoya?” A gentle hand reaches up and brushes remnants of your breakdown from your cheek, causing your heart to flutter against your ribcage. “Wha-?”
“I’ve loved you for so long,” he whispers. “But hearing Yuuichi- it was just confirmation that it doesn’t matter what I want, what I feel- I could never have you. You’re too good to be wasted on me.”
“Ky, stop it. I mean it. You’re- you are exactly good for me; you’re so much more than enough. Just because your father is blind, deaf, and dumb doesn’t mean that your friends- that I- don’t see it.” You cover his hand with your own and let yourself be drawn closer to him. You’ve played with him in the ocean, cleaned his glasses for him when you got caught in the rain, even shared a bed- but in this moment, pouring your heart out in the hopes that he might finally get it… this is the closest you’ve ever been.
Somewhere in the background, amongst the trees and flowerbeds, fireflies blink into the night.
Moonlight glinting in his eyes; his gaze that still looks so hopelessly lost, you don’t know what else you could possibly do to convince him-
-except desperately press your lips to his. And, miracle of miracles, Kyoya kisses you back.
Behind the sweetness, and the hesitancy, there’s a fire and hunger that is so much more than you ever could have imagined. He tastes like champagne and cherry blossoms on the night air. He tastes like love. He tastes like a future.
After a moment- or a minute, or it could have been hours for all you can tell- the two of you are still in each other’s space, foreheads together, trying to catch your breath. Kyoya is studying you with an intensity you’ve never seen before, and the light brush of his fingertips along your cheekbones makes you shiver.
“Well. You don’t seem to have turned into a frog.”
It takes a second for your brain to come back online. Then a laugh burbles out of you, happy and pure. “Are you- are you serious right now?”
“Why, are you disappointed?” There’s a wry grin in his voice that you absolutely adore. You’d do anything and everything to keep that smile on his face.
“Not at all.” You brush your nose against his, scrunching it up just to make him laugh. “It just confirms you’re already my prince.”
“I think Tamaki might object to that.”
“Oh please, you’re three times the prince Tamaki will ever be. He’s just going to have to get over it.”
Across the garden, hidden amongst the shadows, Kyoya’s three siblings are simultaneously sighing in relief.
“Finally, Jesus. Took them long enough.” Akito stretches and gives a yawn. “Are we done here? I’m going to bed.” As he wanders off towards the house, Yuuichi and Fuyumi give each other a glance.
“That… didn’t quite go how we expected.”
Yuuichi snorts. “We should have known. When has Kyoya ever not subverted expectations?”
His sister shakes her head. “True enough. What will we tell father?”
“Oh, I’ll tell him in a week or so that the daughter of the Ito family approached me. Considering their family owns significant stakes in our leading rival’s company, I’m sure he won’t mind the change of heart.”
Fuyumi sighs, watching the two of you laugh together like you did when you were children. They still are, she reminds herself. Old enough to fall in love yet still young enough to feel everything that love brings. Yuuichi slings an arm around his sister’s shoulder and gives her a little squeeze. “We did good today, sis. How long do you think it would have taken them on their own?”
“Given that the only person that rivals Kyoya in stubbornness is Y/N? Never.”
“You read my mind.”
A/N: No clue why Princess and the Frog was stuck in my head for this fic, but I just decided to go with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Little Devils
 Title: Little Devils
Summary: In which Inuchiyo finds out that his kids are probably much more troublesome than he thought before…
A/n: This was an older prompt I had written. I had paused in writing it, but since I seem to be writing alot of prompts lately, I just decided to edit, and write out a quick ending ^^;
“Holy Hells!” Was the first thing that altered Lady Madea that something wasn’t quiet alright, which made her worry considering that Inuchiyo had gone to check on their children.
Inuchiyo's wife, a woman named Izumi, was resting on her bedding in the guest room. They had gone out for only a few hours, doing a bit of shopping. They left their children in the care of a couple of wet-nurses while they were gone. When they came home, Izumi complained of dizziness, claiming the heat had been too much. Out of worry, Inuchiyo suggested she go rest while he go check on the children.
"The kids..." She realized, eyes open as her body went into panic mode.
There was no reason that she could think of for Inuchiyo to be yelling like that if he simply went to check on their children. Pausing for only a moment, she was quickly up, and down the hall to investigate what the hell was going on.
….
….
….
Lady Madea didn’t expect to see what she saw the moment she opened the door to the nursery, where their kids where supposed to be sleeping.
“Umm… Inuchiyo…” She wasn’t sure what to say, so the words dropped in her mouth.
There was pillows, blankets, and all sorts of clothes haphazardly thrown around, almost completely covering the floor. However, they formed a little point towards the top, almost looking like a little fort. The kids were nowhere in sight. She wasn’t sure whether to stand in fear or hurriedly look through the mess in case her kids had done this, and were hiding.
“Izumi, what the holy hells happened in here?!" He turned on her, as if expecting her to have any answers, which she didn’t have any at all. She was just as lost as he was.”And what are you doing out of bed anyways? I thought you were resting." He questioned, looking at her with a slight scowl, but she could see thee worry in his eyes.
"I heard you yelling. I knew if I didn't come check it out for myself, you would never tell me." She answered, crossing her arms for a moment.
"Our children are hidden somewhere in this mess. " Inuchiyo said simply, turning around with narrowed eyes as he scanned the room, looking for any sort of movement in the seemingly sea of clothes. Izumi took that opportunity to look around her husband’s broad shoulders the best she could, still worried about their children." They have to be." He said simply, leaning forward.
That’s when she saw something even more surprising. A movement just under the one fabric that was dyed a deep red. Almost a caterpillar type of movement before just stopping, and out popped a little wisp of black hair. Izumi stifled a laugh, a relief quickly washing over her body.
Inuchiyo glanced at his wife for a moment before he spotted the sprout of hair for himself. He smirked in victory, glancing at his wife for just a brief second. Izumi put a single finger to her lips, instructing her husband to be silent, before making another motion telling him to turn around since she spotted another movement in the sheets.
“I think our kids found a new way to entertain themselves.” She whispered, and then hung on to the fabric of his shirt as he looked around, eyebrows drawn together as he looked around.
It was when another movement was made, and another wisp of hair, only this one was a brownish-black color, did he sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Dammit.” He whispered, but there was a relief in his tone.
“Now, they’re just kids.” She said simply, squeezing his arm slightly, letting him know how relieved she was feeling at the moment. She wasn't quiet ready to give her children a lecture when she was just happy nobody had come to kidnap them.
“They’re gonna suffocate.” He looked at her with an eyebrow raised, and then sighed as he looked forward.“Aito, Akita, Aimi, Akio, minus well come out. We know you’re in there!” Inuchiyo called out, taking a step forward, and then stopped as he seemed to think better on it. He sighed, and then looked out at the mess again.
“You guys are busted. Minus well come out now.” Izumi said gently, waiting to see who would speak or show themselves first.
“Told you we’d get caught.” Came the voice of Akita as she popped up, scowling."It was Aito’s idea!” She quickly said, looking around for her two younger siblings.
“You created the mess!” Aito popped up, holding on to the arm of his two year old brother.
"Yeah!" Akio replied, looking at his brother, who held him more firmly, if somewhat awkwardly.
“With your help!” She called, turning to look at him with a scowl that matched her brother’s own unhappy face.
Aimi popped up, a guilty expression on her face before giving her parents her best, beaming smile, hoping to lessen the trouble with cuteness. It didn't work.
“It doesn’t matter. Clearly you all are in this together.” Izumi said, stepping forward, and helping her children out of the mess they had created the best that she could. She knelt carefully, picking up a handful of clothes.
“And you two are gonna clean all this up by yourselves.” Inuchiyo added on, taking the few clothes Izumi had in her arms into one arm, and helping her up with the other hand.
“What?!” They shouted in unison, their eyes equally as wide, before looking at each other, and turning on each other.
Or at least the older three were.
The youngest, Akio, was left confused, and clumsily walked to his father, looking at him with pleading, dark brown eyes. Inuchiyo gave in, sighing as he shook his head. He bent down, picking up his youngest son.
“Akita started the mess!” Akito said, turning to look at his parents, stepping onto the clothes.
“It was your idea!” Akita yelled, turnign to look at him with her hands balled at her hips, glaring at her brother, who turned to look at her with another glare.
“Aimi wanted the fort!" He yelled one last time, looking at Aimi, whose mouth became agap before glaring.
She was staying out of it until that moment when Akito brought her into it.
"You wanted to play war, so we built you a fort!" She said simply, crossing her arms in defense.
"And then you suggested we hide when father came home!" Akita yelled out, crossing her arms over her chest. All three were glaring at each other at this point.
"I don't care what happened or why. Just get this mess cleaned up." Inuchiyo said simply, looking at the three oldest with a stern expression.
"We're coming back in an hour. Better have most of this cleaned up." Izumi said, looking at them with a equally stern look.
"Why doesn't Akio help?" Aimi asked, huffing.
"He's only two. I'm sure he didn't create any of this mess." Izumi replied, ruffling Akio's black hair. The three began to grumble, but began to pick up the mess.
"Good. That's what we like to see." Inuchiyo teased slightly." Remember, one hour, and most of this better be picked up." He added on, quickly becoming serious again.
"Yes, Father." They grumbled together.
Inuchiyo nodded, closing the door the best he could before walking down the hall with his son in arm, and wife beside him.
....
...
...
"Remind me why we thought it was such a good idea to have this many kids?" Inuchiyo said with a sigh.
They had just sat their children to bed, since they fell asleep half way through cleaning, before making their way to their shared room. where they were currently laying on their sides, facing one another.
"Because they're adorable." Izumi chirped, smiling at her husband before rolling over on his back.
"Yeah, but then they get older, and our kids seem to like giving us hell." He sighed, turning to lay on his back.
Izumi moved herself up, placing her hands on in his hair, and gently winding her fingers through them. Inuchiyo sighed in relaxation, maneuvering his body so that he was now laying his head on her lap as she continued.
"But remember how soft they are when they're first born. How they smell after their first bath. Or they way they sound when they first laugh, or how they look when they first smile. The way they just look at everything with such excitement." She was beginning to become nostalgic.
Being a mother felt like the most natural thing to her. All things considered, she enjoyed being a mother, and considered it her most fulfilling thing she had accomplished in her life so far.
"Or the way they pop their eyes open for the first time, and look at you like they got a bad deal." He joked, opening his eyes with a little grin on his face. Izumi smiled, nodding.
"Even with all the bad stuff, it's a pretty neat deal, don't you think?" She questioned, looking back at him. He smiled a bit wider, and nodded, sighing as he closed his eyes. Izumi paused before smiling once more." Let's have another." She whispered into his ears, making him pop his eyes open in surprise as he looked at his wife. He then just smiled, sitting up as he kissed her. She returned the kiss.
"Alright, but this time, let's not teach this one to talk." He joked, making her laugh.
"Alright." She replied jokingly, kissing him back....
