Cahir is infuriated to hear when you’ve been captured by enemy forces. He recognises that it’s a part of war, for hostages to be taken to be used against others, but he can’t believe that he had managed to let his enemy slip through to capture you. He’s angered at his troops for letting the enemy get to you, and angry at himself for not having protected you better. He immediately orders for his men to get you back, with Cahir leading them all. Even if it might not be the best plan logistically, he doesn’t care — all that matters is getting you back.

Geralt gets frustrated when he realises you’ve been kidnapped. It happened right under his nose, and he swears he should’ve been able to protect you better. The both of you are well aware of the dangers that you encounter on a daily basis, especially since you insist on accompanying Geralt on his travels, and Geralt feels responsible for your safety. So when that’s been jeopardised, he feels to blame, like he’s had failed you. Nonetheless, he knows that he’s going to get you back, and he gets to work right away.

Istredd gets restless when he hears about your capture. He finds himself unable to think about anything else, and he’ll work himself up worrying about you and your safety. He’ll feel a lot of guilt in regards to having not been with you to prevent such a thing from happening, and he’ll find himself worrying about the worst possible scenarios, and it’ll plague him to no end. He wants nothing more than to have you in his arms again, and he swears, when he gets you back, he’ll never let anything happen to you again.

Tissaia is absolutely shattered when she hears you’ve been kidnapped. She tries to keep her composure when she hears the news, but anyone paying attention can see the slight tremble in her hands, the way her eyes well with tears ever so slightly. She’s terrified of you getting hurt, and she can’t imagine how terrified you must feel. She’ll blame herself, feeling as though her incompetencies is what got you into the situation you’re in. But no matter how upset she is, she knows she has to control it long enough to save you.

Yennefer feels a pit in the bottom of her stomach when she hears you’ve been kidnapped. It happened while she was away, and it angers her to think that if she had just been there, you wouldn’t be in this situation. There’s such a mix of emotions she feels, ranging from anger to guilt, and it almost makes her feel sick knowing that you’re alone and afraid somewhere out there. She’d compose herself the best she can, forcing herself to get it together, because she needs to do everything she can to rescue you.

Yeah character based fandom shift makes a lot of sense. It’s like h/s had such a large and well rounded cast that it was easy to mix and match for shipping and also the absurd comedy and realistic drama combo translated well to meme based fandom. So I feel like anyone who was around in its heyday absorbed that like template on fandom and started applying it to future fandoms. And that gets bizarre with media that doesn’t have such a big or well rounded cast and also unfortunately I feel like it influenced people’s tendencies to get horny over anything they can get their hands on 😬

With Stan culture I wanna pin that on celebrity presence on social media but it feels like there was a gap between the time there was a lot of buzz over celebrities interacting with fans on tumblr and the time that Stan culture started becoming prevalent. It would make sense to tie it back to character based fandom though just influencing how people interact with fandom just being applied to celebrities. Good and highly unlikely stuff H S/2 could be doing that would make me willing to acknowledge its existence :

-Making Ter ezi and Vris ka reconcile and develop an actually positive relationship (admitting neither of them see their characterization and/or looks completely butchered in the process) (yeah, no chance)

-Bringing Vris ka and Kan aya closer (admitting they even have the same age anymore, I keep forgetting about that part)

-Bringing Aranea back and giving her a redemption arc of some sort 

-Snapping back from all the fucking nonsense the epilo gues have brought in

What it seems to be doing instead :

-Shoving in more unecessary vr iska clones with bland personalities and questionable fashion choices (questionable for Vris ka I mean, that I can’t picture as a punk and neither as a scene kid, the V riska I know is a long-haired nerd who doesn’t make a fuss about fashion but still looks elegant in her simple attire, and I like her that way)

-Butting people against Ja ne because... because 

-Trying to pass as relevant

I might develop more positive feelings about vr issy in the future, but in spite of the fact that she’s Vr iska in some way, I can’t bring myself to care much about her or any of the new kids for now.

This “sequel” reminds me of the frustration I felt at the end of Harry Potter, when our beloved main protagonists were shown married with kids, which felt rushed, conventional and boring to me. It felt like “Yeah, they’re adults now, so OF COURSE they have to be married-with-kids”. It’s like you can’t feel happy and accomplished as an adult if you’re single, single parent, or even (gasp!) childless...

To me it feels especially artificial and out of place for the HS characters, who had lots of issues to resolve prior to reach the “traditionally married-with-a-child-and-a-dog” status. Sure, they all were raised by a single parent that they have lost at a young age, and might want to compensate with a family of their own, and that might just be my personal distaste of marriage speaking up...

Also, you know what I liked about the original Homestuck kids ? It’s how quirky and nerdy they were, and unashamedly so. 

I always had a hard time finding fiction that portrayed teenagers that I could find relatable when I was a teen myself, because the characters were generally so... normal ? Even when the authors would try and make them pass as “weird kids”, most of the time, it just translated as “Yeah, they’re a bit awkward, they don’t have many friends and the rich kids in their school hate them, but apart from this they’re just like any other kid.”

The Homestuck kids all had hobbies and interests that no other 2000s kid would have, and they didn’t even seem ashamed of it, or to try and fit in, it was just how life was for them, and that’s what made them so endearing to me. 

I might be wrong, but with their descendants, I don’t get this impression. They look like... kids next door. It’s another reason I’m not feeling invested into this Homes tuck’s “sequel”. This sense of absurd comedy and parody that made the original webcomic so enjoyable to me seems lost. All that seems left to me is lots of angst, highly debatable decisions, and wordiness.
