fred andrews really watched his son get convicted for murder, get sent to juvie/prison, escape, then run away after being exhonerated, and when mr andrews finally finds him, instead of being like "hey archie let's get you home get you some therapy and work on that martyr complex of yours", decides to drive his teenage son to the canadian border and say "damn it sure would be nice if we could live in the wilderness together, to bad we can't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" even though there's literally no reason he can't go with him and gives archie their dog before DRIVING AWAY AND ACTING AS THOUGH HE NEVER SAW HIS SON.

Once a Serpent? Part 2
The following week, I started school at Liberty. I went to the office for my schedule. There, I was greeted by a very cheerful girl. She had a black bob haircut. She stuck her hand and introduced herself. “Courtney Crimsen.”
“Kennedy Campbell.” I shook her hand awkwardly.
“I’m going to lead your tour.”
“Oh. I gave myself a tour last week?”
“Well, I’ll give you an insider tour.”
“Okay?” I wasn’t sure about her. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but she seemed to be overly nice. I followed her around the school as she pointed out various things. I had passed by most things in the main building the week prior. She pointed out where some of my classes were and then we went outside. She showed me some of the other buildings. My biology class was on the third floor of the science and technology building.
“Thank you for the tour.” I smiled.
“Of course. If you have any questions, I’m around. You’ll see me in the halls. Feel free to ask.”
“I will. Thank you again.” The bell rang. We parted ways and I walked to my locker. It took a couple of tries, but I got it to open on my own. As I was filling it up, I heard someone calling my name. I looked up and turned around. The voice called again. I looked in that direction up the hall and saw Montgomery walking towards me. Yup. Still hot. Even in regular clothes and not sweating. I waved. He stopped when he reached my locker.
“Hey.”
“Hi.” I pulled my algebra textbook
“How’s your first day going?”
“It’s okay. I haven’t had any classes or anything yet. Courtney gave me a tour.”
“That must have been fun. She’s pretty….”
“Cheery?”
“I was going to say uptight.”
“I got that impression, yeah.” I pulled out my schedule. “I should probably get going. Try to find my way to algebra.”
“Okay, I’ll see you around.”
“See you around Montgomery.”
As I was walking away, he called out, “If you want you can sit with me and the guys at lunch.”
“I have bio in room 347. Come find me.”
One nice thing about starting school at the beginning of the school year, was that you didn’t have to do the stupid introductions no one cares about. In algebra, I picked a seat near the back. I did fine in math. This made it easier to blend in. A boy with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes sat down next to me. He was wearing a blue and white varsity jacket. He took out his books and arranged them on his desk. He turned towards me. “Hey, can I borrow a pencil?”
“Sure.” I dug one out of my bag.
“Thanks. I’m Scott.”
“Kennedy.”
“You’re new here?”
“Is it that obvious?”
“Not really. If you ignore the way you’re looking around like you aren’t prepared for this at all.” I sighed.
“Says the kid that asked someone for a pencil on the first day of school.”
“Touché.” I laughed.
Class started. We spent some time going over the syllabus for the semester. I circled some dates and points. When the teacher, Mrs. Smith, started teaching, I started to zone out a bit. Nothing too major. But I did miss a couple of operations. I turned to Scott and nodded towards his paper.  He turned it towards me. I copied it down quickly. “Something the two of you would like to share with the class Mr. Reed?”
“No Ma’am. Just class notes here.”
“Sorry.” I said quietly.
“Keep up you two.”
“Yes Ma’am.” We said. The rest of class passed without incident.
When biology ended, Monty was standing across the hall. “You found me.”
“I did. Lunch?”
“Sure.” We walked to the cafeteria making small talk. I hated small talk, but it was better than being stared at. I followed him through the crowded room to a table occupied by several large jocks. I was right. I’m going to guess and say football.
“Guys, Kennedy. Kennedy, Guys.”
“Hey.” The boys nodded.
“Hey. Hey Scott.”
“Kennedy. How was bio?”
“It’s the first day, so boring.” I laughed. Scott laughed too. I sat next to him and reached into my lunch bag. I pulled out my carrot sticks.
“She’s in my algebra class.” He said to the table. They were watching us.
“He saved my ass when I wasn’t paying attention. I also apologize if anyone hates the sound of crunching. We only bought groceries for a few days.”
“Ah.”
While we were eating, I started getting warm. I wasn’t used to the heat here. I took off my sweater, not even thinking twice about the fact that I was wearing a tank top. While I picked at my wrap, sorry, I mean ‘rolled sandwich’, I could feel someone watching me. I had grown used to the feeling, especially in the last couple of years. “Yes?”
“What’s your tattoo supposed to be?” Scott asked.
“It’s personal. I got it a couple of years ago.” I could feel him examining it. “I’m probably not going to answer your questions.”
“Did it hurt?”
“Not really. It felt more strange than painful.” Someone else was looking at it too. I turned around. I caught a boy staring at me. He was wearing a worn in black leather jacket. Not wanting to cause problems on my first day, I ignored it.
“No tattoo questions. Can we ask general questions?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“Where are you from?” Bryce asked.
“That’s a loaded question.”
“Oh?”
“My dad is a Major in the Army. Which ‘from’ would you like?”
“Lunch isn’t even half over yet.” Montgomery pointed out. It seemed his friends called him Monty. You aren’t his friend.
“Okay, well. I was born on the base in Germany. We lived there until I was three. Then dad got stationed in Denver. Lived there until I was about six. From there, we moved to Chicago. I was about eight when we moved to New York City. We were there until I was about twelve. Then we moved to Riverdale. My dad had requested to move upstate to have a change of pace. He could still commute. And then we moved here like a week or so ago.”
“So where do you consider home?” Charlie asked. He seemed like he was genuinely nice.
“Riverdale. Not just because we were there the longest. I put down roots there. I actually made friends. I dated. Some relationships were less serious than others.” You mean other. “I grew up there. It’s where I became my own person. It’s home.”
“How old are you?”
“Eighteen.”
“Why did you have to move then?”
“I haven’t graduated yet. My parents didn’t want to leave me there alone while I was still going to school.” If I had my way, I wouldn’t be here by now. I could feel someone’s eyes on me again. I looked and caught Monty staring. Maybe here won’t be so bad.
I got a text from Jughead as we were all talking. Hey Kenz. How’s California treating you?
Hot.
You love the heat. :P
I know. It’s the best. :P
Other than that, how’s it going?
It’s going okay. I met some people. My tour guide was… Happy with a capital P.
They made you take a tour?
Yup. And I still got lost looking for my biology class. I chuckled to myself.
“What’s funny?” Bryce asked.
“Nothing.” I put my phone down on the table. That evidently was a bad idea. My phone started buzzing rapidly. I grabbed it quickly and grimaced. “Sorry.” Fangs was texting me. He seemed to be in a great mood for the first day of school.
Kennedy! We have news. Good news. Great news. The best news. Of course, each sentence was a different message.
Oh? What’s happening?
They put soda in the vending machine again. That’s it? That’s the news?
“That’s it?” I asked, out loud.
“What?” A few guys asked.
“Shit. Did I say that out loud?”
“Yes. So now you have to share the reason.” Scott smiled.
“My friend is freaking out because they out soda in the vending machines at my old school.”
“That’s not a bad reason to freak out.” Monty shrugged.
“I don’t need six individual text messages about it.”
“Well. That’s a lot.” I nodded.
After lunch, I had a free period, so I wandered around the school a little more. My tour wasn’t exactly the greatest after all. Once I mapped out a decent route to my classes, I decided to sit outside. It was nice out. It’s California. It’s usually nice out. I couldn’t help myself while I sat. I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through pictures of Sweetpea and I. A lot of them were candid shots one or the other of us had taken. There were some at various gatherings. One of me the first time I put on his old jacket. IT had felt so foreign to me then. Now it felt like something was missing because I didn’t have it.
Approaching footsteps startled me. Instinctively, my hand flew to my front pocket. Then I remembered that my knife wasn’t there. I had left it at home. I didn’t need it here. It was safe. I wasn’t a target anymore. “Hey.” The voice said above me. I already recognized it as Scott.
“Hey.”
“Can I sit?” He motioned to the ground.
“Free country.” I watched him sit on the bench next to me. He left a respectable distance between us.
“How’s your first day going?”
“It’s okay. How’s your first day of senior year?”
“It’s okay. Doesn’t quite feel real yet.”
“It really doesn’t, no.”
“I’m going to apologize for my friends now. They can be a handful sometimes.”
“I know how to work with that. My friends back home were… a handful and half.”
We sat quietly for a few minutes. “Is Miss Smith always so?” I trailed off, unable to find the right word.
“Intense?”
“Yeah.”
“She can be. Usually at exam time. Nothing too out of the ordinary.”
“Good to know.”
“New York, huh?”
“Yeah. I was pretty young when we lived in the city, so I don’t really have a lot of cool stories.”
“But of Riverdale?”
“I have stories.”
“Like?”
“Can’t talk about them with strangers.”
“I don’t have to be a stranger.” I turned to him and raised my brow. “Oh. Oh
no. I didn’t mean. I have a girlfriend.”
“Is that how you asked all your friends to be friends?”
“No.” He didn’t sound very convincing.
“Friends then. I won’t cheat off you in math by the way.”
“That’s probably a good thing. You wouldn’t do great if you did.” We exchanged numbers. “So, since I’m not a stranger anymore, does that mean I can hear some stories?”
“Soon enough.” I smiled. Scott headed off to meet his girlfriend.
I pulled out my phone again and texted Jughead. I made a friend. My thumb hovered over Sweetpea’s text chain. I couldn’t bring myself to delete it or his contact. I had tried several times over the last two weeks. Something inside of me just kept finding reasons not to. My mind trailed off to the other boy who had caught my attention here. There was something about Montgomery that just made me want to know him. I couldn’t put my finger on it.
It didn’t start feeling like school until the second week of classes. Most of the week prior had been a lot of going over course outlines and review of the previous year’s material. Bryce and his friends had taken a liking to me. It was assumed by my third day that I would be a fixture within their group. Scott’s girlfriend, Melissa, was nice. She didn’t seem to see me as a threat. That’s a relief. I would have hated to have my first real friend here, not be able to be friends with me after all.
In the past couple of weeks, I found myself comparing this group of athletes to my friends back home. Bryce seemed to be the closest to Reggie. He-and everyone else for that matter-considered himself the ringleader of this group. Scott was an observer, much like Jughead. It took me a few days, but I realized that Jeff was pretty similar to Archie. People liked him and he was nice. For the sake of being nice. Charlie, now Charlie was quickly becoming a favourite. He was like a human golden retriever. He reminded me so much of Fangs I wanted to cry. Justin reminded me a lot of Toni. The glue in a way. When I thought of Monty-I was considered his friend now, so I could call him that- I only had one other person in mind. Sweetpea. Well, you can’t say I don’t have a type. I hadn’t assigned roles from my hometown to everyone in the group. Zach, for example was hard to pin down.
By mid-September, I started to get comfortable. Not comfortable enough to let my guard down. I had learned my lesson with Sweetpea. I was hanging out with Scott at lunch. We had both decided we could use a break from being surrounded by jocks all the time. “I don’t know Scott.”
“Come on. You said you didn’t share stories with strangers. I’m not a stranger anymore.”
“I know. Let me think.” I stopped to think about what stories I could share. Ones that didn’t involve outing that I dated a gang member. Or that didn’t involve Sweetpea. That didn’t leave a lot of recent stories. Most of my stories from the last two years involved him or the Serpents in one capacity or another.
“Okay I have one. So my friend, we call him Jughead.” Scott looked at me and shook his head, confused. “It’s better than Forsythe Pendleton Jones III.”
“Yes. That is better.”
“Anyway. He was my first real friend when I moved to Riverdale. We must have barely been thirteen at the time. I had spent the night at his place. we decided we wanted to make pancakes in the morning.” I paused and looked up when Monty sat down with us. What was I saying? I noticed a bruise on his cheek that hadn’t been there yesterday. I wonder what that’s from. No Kennedy. Don’t get involved.
“Hey.”
“Hi. Uh,” I paused.
“Did I interrupt?”
“No. Kennedy was just about to tell me a story about Riverdale.”
“Yeah. Uh, what was I saying?”
“Pancakes.”
“Oh yes! We wanted pancakes. We must have used almost every Tupperware dish in his place. It looked like a tornado had torn through the kitchen. His dad walked out, took one look at the kitchen, and shoo’d us out. We were watching tv until he started a fire in the pan.”
“His dad lit breakfast on fire?”
“Yeah. So, he gave up and took us to the diner for breakfast.”
“How did he set the pancakes on fire?” Monty asked.
“Your guess is as good as mine.” I shrugged. Scott didn’t ask for another story.
“What’s Riverdale like?” Monty asked.
“It’s a small town. I feel like it’s pretty standard for a small town.” I didn’t need to mention the Serpents or the Ghoulies or just how separated the North and South sides of town were. “The woods are nice that surround the town.”
“The woods are nice?”
“Yeah. Very… woodsy.”
“Uh huh. Anything else?”
“Pop’s Diner has the best milkshakes I’ve ever had.”
“You haven’t had the milkshakes at Rosie’s yet.” Scott interjected.
“No, I haven’t.”
“They have the best shakes. No argument.”
“I think I’ll be the judge of that, Scott.” I smirked.

So, as a fan of Winx Club, I was super excited when the trailer for Fate came out. Soon after, someone pointed out Techna was missing and Flora was replaced with her white cousin (coughwhitewashingcough). I quickly realized this would be another Voltron or Riverdale. I watched the series so I could know everywhere it got wrong, and hopefully enjoy it some. So here’s my review of Fate (may contain some spoilers of Fate, but definitely of WC)
Bloom. Let’s start with all that’s wrong with her. Bloom is supposed to be confident, but slightly unsure. Fate!Bloom is extremely insecure and miserable. She’s always doing something super “edgy” and “breaking the rules”. From the way the first season has gone, it doesn’t even look like she’ll be a princess. She’s just labeled as “super powerful changeling”. Which is another thing. Her parents. They’re supposed to be her super supportive adoptive family who ADOPTED HER. Instead, her parent’s REAL child died of a heart condition, and they unknowingly raised Bloom all these years. They didn’t even raise her well, as they were super super abusive. Yet she still loves them and it’s never adressed how abusive and disgusting their actions were. Instead it’s just “complicated”.
Aisha’s just. Yikes. They made her into a goody two shoes bookworm. While i’m not sure how exactly, something just feels wrong and racist about it. I could just be leaping because of the previous whitewashing racism. She’s also super jealous of Bloom for her progress in magic, and it’s just. Never adressed. She’s super helpful and will break any rules in the first like two episodes then she suddenly becomes rigid rule addict out of nowhere.
Tella, aka “Flora’s cousin” is SO annoying. They made her into this awkward fat girl and constantly make fat-phobic jokes. It’s shown as bad, but also in a way, it’s not. There’s another character that’s queer and the only way his queerness is talked about is homophobic jokes by Riven. Side note, Riven is an asshole but jfc they went WAY too far with his dick-ness. He’s practically a bad guy. But anyways, Tella. The fact she’s a whitewashed Flora already makes me hate the character, but she’s always whining. She’s constantly bullied, and she stands up for herself but she also likes it??? Which is wrong in so many ways.
Musa. She’s supposed to be a sound fairy, but they made her into a “useless mind fairy” called an empath. She can feel everyone’s feelings and cant turn off the power. Which makes no sense because every other fairy can turn it on/off. They just couldnt think of something to make her power difficult to use (they wanna be edgy). She’s also a huge jerk to Tella the first episode, which is understandable, but still. Winx Musa is supposed to be a lot more tolerant.
And last, but certainly very far from least. Stella. Stella is absolutely ruined. The show is supposed to start off with her saving Bloom, in the human world, from a witch-made monster. But it starts with Bloom going to school after she was just. Found. By the headmistress. And Stella’s a complete bitch, trying to get her killed. Stella’s abusive and toxic, and suddenly gets a “redemption arc” where she goes “sorry for being absolutely horrible. It’s mommy issues. Not my fault :((( im so broken” and everyone just pretends nothing happened. Not to mention she’s fucking Sky, and don’t get me started. Sky’s not even supposed to know her.
Which leads me to Sky and the specialists. Sky’s all like “oh i shouldnt keep fucking Stella but she needs me. But also, hot new freshman looking fine (´≝◞⊖◟≝`)”. And he’s repeatedly talking about how “broken he is” and how he wants to “fix everything so he doesnt have to think about his brokenness” and he’s just “a fixer” (aka weirdo speech by jughead). As for the specialists, they’re supposed to be at a whole seperate school. But for the sake of throwing in early romance and sex plots, they made it different sections of alfea, yet having a “headmaster” for the specialists that’s still not The Headmaster??? Not to mention, as far as i remember, fairies were all female and specialists all male, which does have some sexist connotations, but now they’re both co-ed and im not sure how i feel about that.
Now, as for the show as a whole. The plot is try-hard. It has it’s enjoyable moments but bloom isn’t supposed to care so much on her past. She does care, but that’s supposed to be so it leads her to clash with the witches. At first, it seemed like there was a witch school like there should be, but now it’s a village that was destroyed years ago?? So it’s quite confusing what’s going on with the witches. There’s a completely seperate enemy, possibly made by the witches though. In Fate, everyone knows truths about Bloom’s past, but it’s hidden. Meanwhile in WC, no one knows she’s a princess or how she ended up in the human world. Im pretty sure fairies in the human world are supposed to be semi-normal, (harry potter wizards/witches kinda thing). However, in Fate, there hasnt been a fairy in the human world in ages. In an effort to avoid major spoilers, i’ll just say. The drama with Rosalind is so stupid and cringy. Also the shock factor in the last episode, which is supposed to show you how she really is evil, it was unnecessary. It made me feel nauseous and shocked in a very bad way. Shows are growing this habit of having dramatic twists where something graphic suddenly happens with no warning, but the problem is that there’s no warning. It’s bad enough even when there is awarning, but it’s still intense for even mentally healthy people. Very damaging to those of us who have mental disorders.
I could have so much more to say on how disappointed I am, as an adult who grew up watching winx club, but im very tired and honestly, i could go on forever. All in all, as it’s own show, Fate is not bad, even enjoyable once you get into it. But as a Winx Club remake, it crushes my dreams and breaks my heart. It stomps all over my childhood and what was dear to me. I think i will continue watching it if more seasons come out, but there’s very little i enjoy about the show. It’s nearly impossible to enjoy if im comparing it to Winx Club, but a decent amount easier if i watch it with comparisons. If were to rate it, i’d probably say it’s 2/5. 2.5 if im being generous. I’m just very disappointed in this reboot, and wish they had made it more accurately, rather than trying so hard to appeal to young adults.

Misread: Dark
Summary: Kurtz/Reader; You start at Riverdale High and people get the wrong impression of you and Kurtz
You’re not surprised when your cousin Sam and your uncle are standing outside the fence. “Heyyyy Y/N. You have a good time at camp.” Sam winks and you roll your eyes stepping past the barbed wire fence of Centerville Correctional Center. “You got out early. We have time to grab breakfast before school if you want.” He smiles and you laugh nodding.
“I’d kill for a burger.” Sam holds his hands up. “You did according to the yard gossip right?” He barks laughing when you smack his shoulder. “I know, I know, it was a joke for Christ sake. We need to thank that lawyer by the way; what do you think we should give her?” You shrug. “I can think when I’ve had food.”
Sam’s decent enough not to comment on your clothes, what you had been brought in wearing; a painfully short skirt and an almost see through top. “You’ll have to change before school. Well at least grab a sweater or some shit. Pretty sure Kurtz left one in the car you can steal.” He nods to you and you tug over the half stack of pancakes he ordered. “Those are mine!” He smacks your hand and you pull one over drowning it in syrup as you push the rest of the plate over. “I think I might puke looking at that.” He snorts as you finish it, dipping the sausage into the leftover syrup. “I haven’t had anything besides prison eggs for breakfast for almost four months. I would drink that entire bottle if I wouldn’t puke from it.” Sam nods. “Come on then, school time, you’re gonna sugar crash if you have more of that shit.”
You weren’t surprised when Southside High shut down; although you were surprised both you and Sam had been transferred to Riverdale; he’d said something about the rest of the Ghoulies being in Greendale. You avoid walking with the other Southsider’s, who move from Pop’s; you avoid the buses and slip into Sam’s car. “You know he’s going to kill me right? For not telling him you’re in town.” Sam scowls as he pulls into the parking lot. You roll your eyes. “He won’t; he’ll be too distracted with me. Don’t worry. What class is he in now?” “English, you have math with me. Come on, I’m sure the teacher’s going to love you.” He smirks and you grip onto Sam’s arm. “Hey; you’ll be fine. You’ll be fine.” You nod settling next to him as the teacher isn’t in. No one moves to greet you but you tap Sam’s arm. “What?”
“Nobody here knows I got in trouble right?” He shrugs. “Most of them don’t know who you are. And really ‘trouble’ you could at least hint at the whole criminal vibe you’re oozing, you look like you rolled off a prison bus an hour ago.” He says as the teacher comes in and starts the lesson. You catch a few people looking at you, but you reason it’s either the fact you’re new or that it looks like all you’re wearing is an oversized hoodie.
“Lunch now; he usually sulks around the Serpent’s.” You nod and Sam’s hand tugs your shoulder. “He might not be to happy to see you.” You turn frowning at him. “Why?” “Because of what happened.” “I didn’t do anything!! He knows that!” You stomp your foot and Sam snorts rolling his eyes. You snarl shoving him, before he shoves you against the wall. “Try me Y/N. I dare you.” You see someone’s hand push against Sam’s shoulder and you’re confused as he lowers his arm.
“You’re new right?” The Serpent turns to you smiling. “Yes. Sorry about Sam, my cousin has a bit of a short temper; he hasn’t given you any trouble?” You ask. “No Kurtz is more trouble.”  He laughs half shrugging. “How?” You tilt your head and Sam smirks. “He tried to kill me. I’m Fangs, pleasure.” You nod side stepping Sam and Fangs. “Would you like a proper apology?” You ask Fangs as he walks with you and Sam towards where ever he eats lunch. You’ve already spotted Kurtz in the student lounge.
“I don’t get why you’re so uptight about the stupid rules, you’re not even the official leader you still have to-“ Kurtz trails off and you know he’s spotted you. “I heard you tried to kill him. What happened?” “No it wasn’t like that we were-“ “What happened?” Kurtz swallows you look unimpressed as he stays quiet. “I dropped him from the second floor.” “Did you apologize, at the least?” “No I-“ You arch an eyebrow and he swallows cringing. “I’m sorry Fangs.” “That’s not a proper one.” You arch your eyebrow again and he scowls, sighing as he stands, you whack at the back of his knee and he kneels after he stumbles, glaring at you as you nod to Fangs.
“Please forgive me. I’m sorry for trying to kill you.” Fangs nods as Kurtz stands, his hand brushing against yours. “I missed you.” He says and you roll your eyes as he pulls you into a hug, face against your neck. “I missed you too.” He sighs against you nodding, and you look expectantly at him. “Well who’re these Serpent’s you’ve cozied up with; I can’t just name them based on how they look like you used to.” You smirk as they narrow their eyes at Kurtz. “Ooh look it’s neck boy; you’re right he is tall enough to climb like a tree. Not bad looking either, you didn’t tell me they looked like a boy band.” “Sweet Pea.” He holds his hand out and you smile.
“Y/N, pleasure.” You name each of the serpents, they seem to take their nicknames in stride and welcome you into their group as Kurtz had been. You meet Jughead’s friends Archie and Veronica and his girlfriend Betty; as well as Josie and Kevin. You sit draped half on the chair half over Kurtz, his hand running through your hair. They watch you oddly and you assume it’s based on the fact you’re a ghoul. Kurtz smirks seeming to enjoy there discomfort and you wait for an explantation that doesn’t come. You notice his hands linger on you more when someone’s watching. You joke about him being a voyeur and Jughead visibly gags. You can’t help but laugh joining Kurtz in whatever odd game he’s playing with the Serpents. Your favourite is when Betty caught you kissing him and tripped over the trashcan when she tried to leave. You’re not sure you’ve ever seen her look so disgusted and it makes you dissolve into a fit of giggles every time you picture it.
“Y/N Walters.” You raise your hand, you can tell someone is watching you but you ignore it. “They’re siblings, I swear. I think Y/N took the fall or got transferred out or something to do with jail, but they’re siblings.” Betty hisses as you walk by. You try your best to keep a straight face, but you text Kurtz to let him know what his friends seem to think. He meets you outside, sliding into the back of Sam’s car with you. Sam glares fixing the mirror so you know he can see both of you. “You’ll have to tell them.”
“But it’ll be funny to watch them guess. I bet it’ll take a week.” “I’m still surprised they haven’t caught on, you think the rings would be a dead giveaway. I really think there’s only so many times they can catch us making out before it boils over.” “Well to be fair they’ve seen me wear mine for months without mentioning you.” “Ooh what about necklaces?” “No that’s too hard they’re Serpent’s remember, dumb as a sack of bricks.” Kurtz laughs. “Yeah they gotta be dumbasses to let you in.” You grin when he smacks your shoulder. “That’s it, no welcome home meal.” You laugh more. “And you knew I was coming today?” “Well you’re not going to be now.” “Will you two shut up about-“ Sam glares from the front seat. “You know what they say about people who get out of prison right Sam?” “I swear if you-“
“They’re incredibly sexually frustrated.” You have tears in your eyes at the disgust on Sam’s face. “She’s my cousin Kurtz, I don’t want to hear anything involving my cousin again.” “You do know she’s my wife right so we’ve-“ “Shut it!” Sam slams the breaks on and Kurtz gets shoved into the back of the front seat grumbling. “Fine, Y/N’s a god damn virgin, you happy?”
You’re not trying to hide it but still the panic that shoots through you when you hear some clear their throat is unavoidable. You know you weren’t being discreet, curled on Kurtz lap in the student lounge tongue in his mouth was about as public as you could get besides going at in the middle of class, which was something you had shot down when he suggested it. You shiver slightly watching as Jughead glares at the two of you. Kurtz nudges you behind him and you peer from around his shoulder, his arm snaking around your waist. “What Jones?”
“You two are related.” He states nodding and you can see the rest of the Serpents and his other friends gathering around. You roll your eyes. “We really taking advice from Mr. I’m dating my half sister?” Jughead narrows his eyes. “Charles shares one of our parents and-“ “He’s your sibling, so you’re dating your half-sibling. Not to mention didn’t your parents fuck when your dad was off being a serial killer?” You comment and both him and Betty glare. “We’re not actually siblings, unlike you two.” You assure them. “You two are brother and sister! You have the same last name, and you call your dad, well dad! The same dad!!”
“Kurtz do you want to tell them? I think they’d get a kick outta you saying it.” “Say what?” Jughead eyes Kurtz warily. “When I say dad, I mean my father in law.” “We’re not siblings, we’re married. You idiots” You chime in and everyone stares, as you hold up your ring, waving it slightly. The Serpent’s stare; turning to Kurtz. “You’re married!??!” “Yes? Why do you guys think I never dated anyone..” “You’re psycho! No one would want- Why? How would you even-“ “You go down to the court and sign the certificate? We both had parental permission; totally legal. Also I love her, it’s not that hard to think or do.” He shrugs at them and you loop your arm in his. “Why is that so surprising?” He asks and Jughead shrugs. Sweet Pea speaks up.
“Just never thought you’d find someone so well normal.” “Oh they don’t know; Sam was right.” “Right?” “I spent my summer in the Centerville Corrections Center. Wrong place, wrong time and all that.” you smile at them and they hesitate. “Why was it the wrong place at the wrong time.” One of them asks. You turn to Kurtz and he shrugs. “Your call.”
“I used to be a runner, not track, I got caught up on a pretty big job near Greendale, didn’t make it out at the right time is all.” “So you went to jail?” Jughead states and you nod. “Basically. I mean they let me out pretty quick, just gave me tons of community service. Which I still have to do, so that’s how I’m spending my summers.” “Y/N; you can’t just tell them that. The full story.” You glare rolling your eyes. “I was in the wrong place and the wrong time, with a knife; and one of the other runners got stabbed at the same time, it was a really weird coincidence.” “Oh my god?” “Yeah I get it I stabbed someone and-“ “You married Kurtz, like you actually chose to marry him? Him of all people.” “You’re insulting me in front of my wife after she just admitted she stabbed someone? Jesus the Serpent are dumb as fuck.”

Me watching Riverdale S2:
THE WAY KEVIN IS RAISING HIS HAND TO THE MOTHERFUCKING SKY WHEN HIRAM ASKS FOR A VOLUNTEER FOR A WRESTLING DEMONSTRATION. THIS THIRSTY MOTHERFUCKER. HIS FACE IS PRICELESS.
I wish I could just jump into Riverdale and shake the characters and be like
Cheryl: Your parents fucking suck
Josie: Your parents fucking suck
Veronica: Your parents fucking suck
Betty: Your parents fucking suck
Archie: Your dads okay so far, I don’t know about your mom
Jughead: Your dad used to fucking suck but as a person, at his core, I don’t think he’s evil, and he’s getting better, but he’s got a ways to learn. I don’t know about your mom
Kevin: Your dad’s decent so far? Don’t know about your mom
Like especially Josie because I know it’s hard and that a lot of the trauma her mom felt probably manifested itself badly and Josie probably feels attached to her mom and like she owes her being a good daughter because her mom’s had it bad but like I also DON’T CARE. FUCKING TREAT YOUR CHILD RIGHT. I DON’T GIVE A SHIT WHAT HAPPENED. THATS YOUR CHILD. WOMAN UP AND BE A FUCKING DECENT PERSON. I DON’T CARE THAT YOU PUT A ROOF OVER HER HEAD, FOOD IN HER MOUTH, GAVE HER A SINGING CAREER (But continue to control it and not give her leeway to think and act on her own). SHE DON’T OWE YOU SHIT. FUCK OFF WITH YOUR WEIRD LIFE-FUCKING-SUCKED-FOR-ME-BUT-IM-ALSO-A-CLASSIST-BITCH PARADOX. MY DAD’S GOT IT MADE RIGHT NOW BUT HE HASN’T FORGOTTEN HIS ROOTS, HASN’T FORGOTTEN THE DISCRIMINATION HE FACED AND THE FACT THAT HE GREW UP SHIT POOR EARLY ON AND HE HASN’T DECIDED “Hey, let’s ridicule people for being in a similar position that I was in!”
Basically, this is me begging for for Josie’s mom to ✨fucking do better✨
Anyways yeah normalize Riverdale characters disowning their own parents ✌🏽🥰
Hmmm. If I wasn’t completely and utterly for the Serpents before, the white serpents learning to shut the fuck up and stand with Toni and her grandfather in opposition of the genocide and colonialism that was perpetrated by Cheryl’s great great grandfather? Hell fucking yeah
Dude I’m sorta crying at the scene with Hiram seeing Veronica in her confirmation dress because he’s a piece of shit but this is how it goes down, like it’s a whole thing
I love that I immediately knew the meaning of “Catholic chic”. Apparently that’s all going to church every Sunday for the formative years of my life accomplished
I hope Penelope Blossom dies in a fire :)
OH MY GOD, LOVE SIMON CAME OUT RIGHT AROUND HERE, KEVIN IS ASKING MOOSE TO IT, MY COMFORT MOVIE OH MY GOD-
Ugh, I don’t trust Midge. Something about the tropey-ness of her being The Girlfriend™️ and her face, as well as the fact that she played Gen in tatbilb, something doesn’t sit right. The haircut feels too manic pixie, like she’s hiding something. Bad vibes
NOOO CHERYL ILL GO ON A VACATION WITH YOU 😭 GOD IM SO GONE FOR HER
Aaaaand she did some fuck shit. Aaaand Toni is pretty. Aaaand there’s the internalized homophobia.
Jughead saying that growing up Betty’s and Archie’s windows being parallel always bothered him sounds more like a jarchie admission than a bughead one, I’m just sayin’
BETTY AND JUGHEAD’S REACTIONS WHEN THEY HEAR THE BED SQUEAKING IS ME. Like the little amused but lowkey confused and baffled expression on his face as he’s like “is that their solution to everything? Can’t they ever just talk?” Like no apparently not. Me too Jug, me too-
Idk Vee, maybe he’s asking questions about your father’s line of work and the business of his associates because your dad and mom are fucking evil
What the fuck Veronica. I mean yay because that just gets us closer to Jarchie kiss but like what the fuck Vee. Also Jughead is super cute, like why does the blue eyes black hair thing absolutely melt my weak heart, like I didn’t choose to fall for this pasty ass white boy but here we are. Also Veronica’s eyes are really big and dark and pretty like girl help im falling for these two-
BETTY LITERALLY POINTED IT OUT, C’MON NOW CW, I KNOW WE’VE MADE THE MISTAKE OF GROVELING WITH SPN BUT PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU WE NEED A JARCHIE KISS-
CAN HETEROSEXUALS PLEASE STOP FUCKING ALL THE TIME ON TV. WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SHOVE YOUR STRAIGHTNESS IN MY FACE. NOT EVERYONE IS STRAIGHT YOU KNOW.
“Entertain Jughead” 😏
DUDE. They were sitting ALONE. TOGETHER. In the WOODS. With them being the ONLY ones who haven’t kissed. DUDE.
C’MON MAN, THEY’RE STARING FUCKING LONGINGLY AT EACH OTHER
If there are weird gay ships for straights then Jeronica is the weird straight ship for gays
Ok so is there a legitimate reason why Veronica is faithful to her parents and defends them to a tee and partakes in their mob shit or is she just daddy’s little fucking girl. Like it isn’t her fault that she’s been manipulated but it pisses me the fuck off. And people who want her to stay with her parents because supposedly they’re the only ones who love her even though it’s toxic and warped? Like do you have a brain?
Archie and Veronica really love supporting gentrification, classism, and Vee’s rich daddy and mommy’s innocence huh
Look i actually agree with Reggie for once, get Hiram’s ass, deal with it Veronica
Wow, nice, shaming Jug for eating. That’s cool, Arch. That’s awesome. And no Betty, she doesn’t have everybody’s vote. Because Veronica’s parents are motherfuckers and when it comes to choosing between a murderer/abuser/rich/classist/gentrifying fuck and supporting your bestie uwu guess which one im fucking picking. Also, THANK YOU JUG for explaining to your friend that even though he lives in a fantasy land where northside Riverdale is the only one worth referring to when talking about Riverdale at all and thus the only one that matters and is worth protecting, the southside exists and people live and have grown up in the southside and building a prison there where it will be even more easy to profile and incarcerate southside residents under false or exaggerated pretenses ISN’T A GOOD THING. That his own friend isn’t quite apart of his and Veronica’s and Betty’s socioeconomic caste and that he’s not going to pretend like he is, he isn’t going to be quiet about it just because you’re friends again. That he’s not going to lay down and let Archie explain what a good move for Riverdale is when he clearly means northside riverdale, let him explain how the southside needs to be dealt with to someone who grew up on the southside and knows it more (not the most, I’m not saying Jug isn’t out of his depth with certain aspects of being a full southsider) intricately than him. LIKE FUCK. ARCHIE. WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE TALKING TO. Like he just doesn’t get why building prisons and stereotyping and condemning all southsiders and gentrifying entire neighborhoods is really fucking bad and a big deal and it annoys me so much. Like yeah Arch, obviously you don’t see the big deal because it doesn’t affect you and you delude yourself that it doesn’t affect your friend either, but it actually is that bad.
In conclusion, Archie and Veronica and sometimes Betty are giving me headaches rn. Like I’m not saying Jughead is perfect at all but in this particular instance he’s the only one I agree with for the most part right now.
Yeah Arch, you see things differently because you’re not the one who’s on the receiving end of the problem
YES MOMMA ANDREWS. SNAP! GO FERAL! SHOW THAT SOB SOME CONSEQUENCES!
Ah, so this is the jarchie “break-up” scene. You know what. I feel no heartbreak. Get his ass Jug.
Get. His. Ass.
They sent Cheryl to a conversion institution. I’m literally crying. This isn’t an exaggeration. I feel like I want to cry. Just. God fucking damn it.
SHE DOESN’T WANT TO GET BETTER. SHE’S NOT SICK. YOU ARE. DIE. FUCKING DIE. BURN IN HELL. AND PENELOPE BLOSSOM TOO.
“That’s not how things go in Riverdale” is a veiled way of saying “don’t challenge the upper class and don’t try to stifle gentrification,” I hope you all know

Recappin’ Riverdale 1x03: Body Double
Tumblr media
Episode summary:
I feel like this episode thought it was making this feminist statement, but it’s....contrasted with the whole rest of the show? Like, no. Women on this show are played as sexual objects. RAS has out and out admitted to dressing the cast, particularly the female cast, in provocative clothing specifically so people can lust on them. You don’t get to think you’re being so feminist and progressive when that’s disproven by every scene on this show. Betty’s FIRST SCENE was in a bra, and she was fifteen. Was that just...for comfort? Or maybe it was to say “come watch our show! We have hot young actors!”
Also I get a bit more in-depth rambley, under the cut!
- Oh god, I can’t even stand the voiceover. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Jughead Jones is a TERRIBLE writer. He’s also REALLY fond of adjectives. And if this was an intentional character choice, it’d fit so well. It’s so like a teen to have this exaggerated sense of self-importance. It would make sense that he THINKS he’s a better writer than he IS. But that’s not how Riverdale works. Jughead is a writer stand-in, and they probably think the narration sounds edgy and profound. Look, voiceover narration is hard to get right. God knows I’m annoyed by Grey’s Anatomy’s voiceovers more than I enjoy them. But like, maybe go with the style Criminal Minds used? I always enjoyed hearing their beginning and ending quotes, instead of this hipster garbage.
- “I loved Jason more than I do myself” we should have and could have done a deep dive into Cheryl’s characterization, instead of having Toni briefly touch on it. Cheryl does not have ONE stable, healthy connection in her life. She has ZERO reference for what a healthy relationship looks like. She has no healthy connections. Jason was the only loving relationship in her life, and I would not call that a healthy relationship.
- That dress Cheryl wears. She has so many better outfits.
- GREAT interrogation, Tom Keller. A+. We’ve saved a place in a line of Riverdale’s top law enforcement for you. God, can anyone get a decent sheriff here? I’m calling Nicole Haught.
- God I feel so bad for Cheryl, especially in season 1. How she could turn out as she is now despite enduring nonstop abuse is amazing. And let’s be clear, Riverdale. The way she was treated is ABUSE, whether you want to recognize that or not.
- S1 Alice was cold af. I mean, now, they really don’t know what they’re doing with her and never have, but she’s really rigid here.
- FIRST BUGHEAD SCENE! I love that she immediately calls him “Juggy”. Inquiring minds want to know about these two’s past.
- Girl’s done her research.
- Honestly, did we think Jughead could say no to Betty?
- Tiny flirting. Love it.
- Ah, retroactive parenting. The Fred Andrews MO.
- Okay, I’m glad they redeemed Chuck. We all know how good Riverdale is with their POC characters.
- Betty’s outfit in this hallway scene. Blue loose top, blue cardigan, jeans....this is a FAR CRY from her S4 outfits.
- THE STICKY MAPLE. GOOD GOD. I THOUGHT I COULDN’T CRINGE MORE.
- I read a fic once, I wish I knew who it was by, where Veronica kind of took the “sticky maple” thing and ran with it, implying Chuck was...lacking, and he was begging her to take it down. I wish they had done that.
- Betty covering her face in the locker room. I love it.
- And thus we begin on teenagers being far more competent than law enforcement.
- Okay so Josie and Cheryl are friends?
- Some proof that Riverdale doesn’t plan ahead:
Tumblr media
Tony Topaz?
-  Ethel being the one who’s constantly screwed over. Need someone with a creepy Jughead obsession? ETHEL! Comics backs this so we’re in the clear! Need someone to fall into a cult and nearly die? I know just who! Need someone to be creepily watching other people’s sex tapes? There’s our girl!
- Boys will be boys HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS
- Poor Camila. She does what she can with some VERY shoddily written dialogue.
- Ditto Madelaine.
- “I saw the way you looked at me” - Okay, Jug
- Archie did not have the black eye earlier in the episode and now it’s back? God the script supervisor must hate her job, her life, and everyone around her
- TREV. I hate people in fanfic making him out to be the villain he never was.
- The Betty ballet bun. It’s adorable.
- Josie is so freaking gorgeous
- Okay we also meet the Dark!Betty plotline this episode. What a super realistic, healthy, nuanced portrayal of mental illness.
- You should know that I skipped most of the Dark!Betty scenes because I am just...disgusted with *gestures vaguely* all of this
- I ain’t going to say Alice didn’t deserve that punch.
- Some secretive Jarchie. There’s a secret relationship AU video in here, if you edit.
- “Slut-shaming. That’s what they call it when sluts get shamed.” THANKS ALICE. Would have been really hard to piece that together without you.
- “Soundproofing the garage” Fred Andrews doing himself a favor.
- Also skipping the grooming scenes. I don’t know how that wasn’t presented as EW as it was.
Anyway, that’s episode 3! Hope my conservative estimate of one person reading this enjoys hearing my thoughts!

Riverdale 4x18 Review, Analysis and Theories
I’ve finally watched the episode and I’ve got alot of thoughts about it. To be honest it went pretty much the way I thought it would, mostly. We’ve been given some more information and a whole lot more questions. There were four plotlines in the episode, two main ones and two sideplots, so I figured we could go through each one and unpack them to see what clues we’ve been left this time. So if you want to read an analysis of the episode and get my opinions and theories then read on below the tag. As always these are just my own opinions you are welcome to disagree also there are spoilers obviously.
Jughead, Charles and the Video Tapes.
So the first plotline I want to talk about is the one where Jughead and Charles are invesitgating the tapes. The episode starts out with Jughead showing Betty, Alice and Charles the newest videotape that he found at the end of the last episode. A couple of sidenotes here which aren’t all that relevant but I figured I’d mention anyway. I love how protective everyone was of Jelly Bean. Even Charles who stood up to block the her view of the tv. But also where was FP? I feel like this is something he should be included in so it was a bit odd that he was missing from the scene. They could have at least mentioned him like said he was investigating it from the station or something. Anyway getting back to it. Jughead asks Betty if she wants to help him look into the tape but Betty says she doesn’t want to get pulled into another mystery. This is when Charles decides to suggest that Jughead and he could investigate it together. I loved that Charles called Jug little brother. I just thought it was really sweet. Also I would like to see more of the Jones/Cooper/Smith family interactions. Whilst we’ve gotten a decent amount of Charles/Betty and Charles/Jughead sibling bonding moments we haven’t gotten as many with Charles and his parents and other than this brief one I don’t think we’ve had any with Jelly Bean and Charles so I wouldn’t object to seeing those relationships developed a little more. Also I would like to point out that while it was really nice that Charles is always offering for Betty and Jughead to help him out with the investigation, I can’t help but think that Charles has an ulterior motive for this. I mentioned in my theory post about Charles and the video tapes (which you can read here if you want) that I think Charles sees Betty and Jughead as loose cannons. When they first meet Charles he says something like ‘I hear you two are quite the detective duo.’ Or something along those lines. I actually think Charles keeps asking for their help so that he can keep an eye on what they’re doing and make sure they don’t do anything to mess up the FBI’s own investigation into the tapes. I mean think about it, if Charles gets them working with him then he knows where they are and what they are doing, so he knows they aren’t gallivanting around town getting themselves into all kinds of mischief, classic big brother move.
Through Charles we learn that there are two drop off boxes where people can turn in the tapes they recieve. One at the Sheriff station and one at the FBI office. They are both monitored with cctv cameras but there are hours upon hours of footage so Jughead and Charles decide to make some popcorn and go through all the footage in the hopes they can find some clue as to who left the murder video tape. Also can I just say that this episode made me remember why I love Jughead there were just so many little moments that were, well I don’t know how else to describe them other than they were very Jughead. Like I don’t know what was funnier that Jughead’s response to facing hours of footage seraching for a potential killer is ‘do you have popcorn?’ or the fact that yes the FBI does have popcorn. Maybe its just me but I just got a chuckle out of that. Anyway while going through the footage Jughead does spot someone he knows and decides to follow the lead alone. Of course we learn that Ethel is the person he sees leaving a tape behind. But before we get into that I want to talk about something else I noticed. When Jug is leaving the camera pans down to show us Charles’ laptop with the cctv footage. Now they had to have done this for a reason there had to have been something in that segment of cctv that is important to the plot. The footage is very grainy and sped up but we see a woman enter the building. She walks down the hall, appears to stop briefly to talk to whoever is at the desk at the end of the hall, This person seems to gesture around the corner. The woman disappears around the corner and then a few moments later reappears, walks back towards the camera and leaves. I managed to grab a couple of screenshots of this footage.
Tumblr media
If you’ve read my last theory post where I talk about theories around both Charles and the Voyeur (the one I linked above) then you will know I have a theory that Donna is the one behind the tapes and also the one who is wearing the Betty mask. Now I know the image is really grainy but to me this looks like a female with long dark hair who is wearing a jacket and trousers very similar in style to what Donna wears. Her build also seems very similar to Donna’s aswell. I mean...
Tumblr media
I’m just saying the woman in the cctv, the woman in the betty mask and Donna all look real similar to me. As for why Charles didn’t recognise her, well as we can see the image isn’t the best, it was sped up and he could have been distracted by Jug saying he saw someone he knew. We don’t see where he is looking so for all we know he might have been watching Jug leave and not at the computer screen, point is he could have just missed it. Also another thing worth noting is that right before the footage is shown Charles asks ‘do you recognise someone?’ Obviously he is directing the question at Jughead but it could also be the writers way of asking us the same question, do we the viewer recognise someone in this footage.
So Jughead goes off and talks to Ethel about the tapes and she says she was just dropping off the tapes that had been left on her doorstep, that they contained the same as all the others, static footage of her home. She gets upset when Jughead tells her that one of the tapes was different and asks if she knows anything about it. One thing I will say is her line ‘I’m just trying to make it out of Riverdale in one piece.’ really resonated. Like it really makes you think how much crap these kids have gone through with all the murders and cults. It is almost like its more of an achievement for them to reach adulthood than normal because so many of them could have been killed by one of the many serial killers that have rampaged through the town. Also I feel like a lot of the kids in Riverdale see college as being a way to escape from Riverdale.
After talking to Ethel Jughead comes up with the idea that maybe the Voyeur is a film maker, so he and Charles hit the video store. I do love the store owners line when Charles asks if any of his customers were acting suspicious and he replies ‘they all act suspicious.’ I do think the writers might be having a little laugh with us here because its very true for Riverdale as a whole, like every character on this show acts shady as hell most of the time. The store owner gives them their records and they discover that Ethel has rented the horror movie Friday the 13th sixteen times. Charles then tells Jughead that he considers Ethel to be a prime suspect as she has a predilection for horror movies, was seen dropping off a tape and as per Jughead’s admission an obsession with him. But Jughead clearly doesn’t want to upset the progress Ethel seems to have made and points out that he doesn’t think she would have the equipment for it and tells Charles to drop it. When he’s next at school Jughead goes to the office to get info on the AV club, the members of which would have access to the equipment needed to make the video tapes. He not only learns that Ethel is the president of the club but that Charles had already been there asking questions and had already left with Ethel. Jug goes back to the FBI office to find out what happened from Charles and finds out that Ethel had somehow got ahold of the sex tape of him and Betty from Stonewall prep. Now I have seen some comments saying that they think Charles going after Ethel alone was really shady and that it could mean he has something to do with the video tapes. I’m not saying that he doesn’t have something to do with the tapes, its could be a possibilty, but out of all the shady behaviour we’ve seen from Charles in my opinion this wasn’t shady at all. I think because we see everything from Jughead’s point of view its easy to forget that its not a case of Jughead is leading an investigation and Charles is helping out but the other way around. Charles is the lead on the investigation into the tapes, he’s the FBI agent. So if he thinks someone is a suspect he’s not just going to drop that lead just because some teenage kid said he should, even if that kid is his brother. Also can I say that this is such a Jones/Cooper thing to do, they get told not to do something and then the next scene you find out they did the exact thing they were told not to. We see it with Betty and Jughead all the time so it was kinda funny to see the same thing happen to Jughead in a role reversal. It was a good thing he didn’t drop it too as if Charles hadn’t gone and searched Ethel’s home they probably wouldn’t have found out about the Scarlet Room.
So speaking of the Scarlet Room it shows that there is an even darker side to Riverdale if that was even possible, this is a definitely x rated room in the back of the store where they have home made videos. The store owner says sometimes people sell the videos and sometimes they trade them. But these tapes consist of some sex tapes, rougher ones and weirder ones but also more sinister than that snuff films which Jug finds. I was able to catch some of the titles which could be clues as to which other murders might be re-enacted next. The one of Jason Blossom is called a Maple Murder which is pretty self explanatory. There is one called Black Hood Unmasked which I think could be Mr Svensons death. The Blackhood Diaries is another self-explanatory one. There’s another called Carrie the... I can’t make out the rest of the title but that one is clearly Midge’s death. Then there’s one called Pop’s After Hours which I reckon is from the Halloween episode where Veronica kills that serial killer in self defense. The curious thing about Jason Blossom’s murder being there though is that as far as we know there are only three copies of that footage. Betty has one on her laptop and Cheryl has the other on a USB. The third from what I remember was given to the police, I can’t remember what happened to it after that but I think the Blossoms asked for it to be destroyed? Sorry if I’m wrong about that. So if only those copies existed then how did one end up in the store. Well I do have one theory for that. We know that Betty gave Chic one of her old laptops, now I’m going to assume she wouldn’t have been careless enough to leave that footage on the laptop if it was ever on that one but you never know, we also know that Chic was in the house alot when Betty wasn’t there and he liked to sneak into her room. It’s possible that Chic found the video and took a copy to the store to get some extra cash. But the Scarlet room as a whole is a very creepy idea, that people including Students like Ethel are going in there and renting footage of people being brutally murdered, I mean no wonder there are so many serial killers in Riverdale cause that’s just messed up. On a side note I thought it was absolutley hilarious when the store owner came in and told Jughead that only over 18′s were allowed back there. Like dude you are being invesitgated by the FBI and they’ve just found your highly illegal collection of homemade sex and snuff films and you think telling them that only 18 and overs are allowed in this section is going to save you. So anyway the FBI confiscates all the videos so lets just say the FBI have now got a ridiculous amount of video tapes at that office what between these ones and the ones collected from the town residents. But I do feel like the Scarlet Room tapes are going to be important to the plotline in some way like they’ll find some kind of clue in them.
The episode ends with Jughead getting a call from Cheryl who says she just got a tape. When he and Betty go over there they find out its the same kind of thing as the one Jughead found. Two people in masks re-enacting Jason Blossom’s murder. There is something I want to cover quickly before we analyse the tape itself but there does seem to be some confusion over whether these tapes are actually real or just acting. I mean Jughead calls the tape he got a faux snuff film and talks about how whoever filmed it went through the trouble of hiring actors. It also does seem like the person wearing Jason’s mask in the newest video is acting along. If they aren’t real it would also explain why there haven’t been any bodies showing up or missing people reported. Yet I get the feeling that these are real, I mean they look very real to me, particualrly the one with Jason. As to why it looks like the one wearing the Jason mask is acting well they either could be under duress told this is the script play along or else, or it could be that they didn’t know what was actually going to happen, maybe they thought that the gun was fake or that the other person wasn’t going to actually pull the trigger which is why they seem so relaxed and calm right before they are shot. I don’t know though maybe it is all fake? What do you think?
But the discovery of this lastest tape raises some more questions. Once again we have two masked individuals which begs the question who are the people behind the masks? One thing we do know is that its not the same people as the first video. The attacker in the first video was definitely a woman and was much shorter than the attacker in the latest one. Also the murder victims in both are also definitely different people, the one in the first video who was dressed as Jughead was much more muscular than the one in the Jason mask who had a much slimer build. This could also maybe be evidence that its possible these really are murders going on. I mean if the first guy really was killed then obviously he can’t be in the second video. To be honest I don’t have any idea who could behind the Jason mask, at all.
Ok but who do I think is behind the Cliff mask. Well here I do have a theory and it ties in another of the plotlines from this episode. The tickle ring one. I don’t think its a coincidence that its in this episode that Terry, the one who approached Kevin and who films them, suddenly turned violent. I mean up until now he’s come across as a decent guy by Riverdale standards. Now he’s threatening to break peoples fingers and issuing threats. Also it is worth noting that when Jughead says maybe the voyeur is a film maker the very next scene is the one where Terry comes out the room and pays Kevin, Fangs and Reggie. The writers are being very obvious with the message here I mean its like Jughead: Maybe its a film maker? Riverdale: Look its a film maker! I mean they couldn’t be more obvious if they put a neon sign above Terry’s head that said guilty. So is there anymore evidence to suggest Terry is the one in the Cliff mask? Well I grabbed some more screenshots.
Tumblr media
So we have that same old problem of the qualtiy of the images in these tapes that are being left aren’t great, it does take me back to the good old days of vcr oh the nostalgia but I’m going off track. Despite the bad quality we can still get some clues from the image. Now it is a little differcult because of the lighting in the video tape is bad but take a look at the top two images in the grid above. As it was with my Donna behind the Betty mask theory its the hair that I think is the biggest clue here. There isn’t really anyone else we’ve seen in the show that has this style of hair where its longer on top and fades at the sides. I mean I don’t know about you guys but I do think the hair of the guy in the Cliff mask is very similar to Terry’s. Now obviously we can’t just convict a man based on his hair style. If we look at the two bottom images. I know it is hard to see the video tape image all that well but I have watched it over and over on slow motion and they do seem to be similar in build and height. The other problem we have comparing the two images is that while its useful that we’ve got a shot of Terry standing next to someone seated like the people in the tape, the sofa that Fangs is sitting on is much lower than the chair the masked Jason is sitting on, plus you have to take the height of the individuals themselves into consideration. But taking all that into consideration lets look at a bigger image...
Tumblr media
As I said the difficulty we have is that Fangs is sitting on a much lower surface than the masked Jason. But lets have a bit of fun and do some estimations. Lets say the blue line on the picture on the right is the approximate height the seat of the chair masked Jason is sitting on. The black line is the length of Fang’s torso from his seat to his head. The green line is the height at which the top of his head would be if he was sitting on a higher surface. Now I know this is very much an estimation and not all that accurate its more just to give us an idea. But I think Fangs and the masked Jason seem to be of similar height so when we compare the two images we can see that the height difference between masked Cliff  and a seated individual is roughly the same height difference as Terry when standing next to a seated individual. Also something else that could suggest Terry might be involved is that he would be able to get the actors who are playing the victims. He already has a client pool he could pull from. It wouldn’t be that much of a leap to think that he might approach one of his tickle boys and say do you want to get a little extra cash? I’m working on another project if you’re interested.
What if it isn’t Terry though. Who else could it be? Well the other person we are shown acting suspect in this episode is Mr Honey is shown to be someone who visits the Scarlet Room and it seems he does this regularly. I did think there was something about the way the masked Cliff moved that reminded me of Mr Honey but in my opinion I don’t think the hair style or height of the indivdual fits with Mr Honey as well as Terry. Also we know the person in the mask is imitating Cliff and so is mimicing the way Cliff would move which I think just happens to be similar to Mr Honey. However I don’t think that necessarily means Mr Honey is innocent and I’m going to cover my theory on that in a bit. The other person I thought it could potentially be is Bret. As I said in my theory about the Stonies having something to do with the tapes, we don’t know when these tapes were filmed or even where they were filmed. It could be that this was filmed before Bret was arrested. However while I think height wise it could be Bret the hair style is completely different from Bret’s who has much longer hair.
Now going back to my previous theory post where I said I was pretty certain that it would turn out to be Donna behind the tapes, you could say that this newest tape derails that theory as there is no link between Cheryl and Donna. So why would she bother making a re-enactment of Cheryl’s twin brother’s murder? Donna might have had a motive with the previous video depicting Betty and Jughead its no secret she hates them both. But on the contrary I actually would argue that the appearance of this tape further confirms my theory. While it’s true there is no link between Donna and Cheryl there is a link between Donna and the Jason Blossom murder. When Jughead wrote his first draft for the Baxter Brother novel, the one that originally won him the contract it was based on Jason’s murder, it was called The Boy in the River. Later they tell Jughead that they don’t think its good enough after all and he starts writing one based on the Black Hood instead. But he finds his original draft based on Jason in a envelope saying ready for publish. He discovers that it has been rewritten but that it is the same story. Dupont later tells him that all of his classmates had a go at rewriting it, this includes Donna. This means that Donna became real familiar with Jason’s story. The premise of my original theory was that I believed that Donna was upset that she wasn’t able to commit the perfect murder. Especially as she was so close, I mean Jughead says himself that it would have been perfect if it weren’t for the fact that he didn’t actually die. I think Donna then decided to have another go at the perfect murder. A do over so to speak. Like I said we don’t know when that first copy cat murder video was filmed. If it was quite a while ago then its possible that Donna believed she had got away with it and so she looked at other imperfect murders that she could make perfect. I mean if you think about it like Jughead’s attempted murder Jason’s murder was very nearly perfect. Cliff so very nearly got away with it, from killing Jason after he was already reported missing by Cheryl, to having FP clean up and then take the wrap for it. The only reason he didn’t get away with it was because of one tiny detail, the fact that the footage of the actual murder was out there and the USB was found. If my theory is right then I think Donna is only going to continue looking for murders to redo. I think she’s going to become addicted to it and we’ll start to see more and more of these copycat murders. Also I had a thought about why if these are real murders there aren’t any bodies. We’ve been told on a couple of occasions that you can dissolve a body with Lye. As Donna says to Betty ‘No body, No crime.’ It’s possible she’s been dissolving the bodies with lye so there isn’t anything to find. Also if she is picking the victims right then there won’t be any missing person reports espicially if she is choosing people from out of town and then releasing the videos in Riverdale. The authorities might not be making the connection.
So if I’m sticking with my its Donna theory how do I explain that it definitely wasn’t Donna in the latest video. I mean it was without a doubt a male right? Well we know that Donna works with a group. She’s the mastermind but she needs her disciples. I think she started this with the Stonies where they released the videos of peoples houses, most likely this started out as a prank. We know that the Stonies liked to pull some pretty crazy pranks like locking people in coffins overnight, we also know there seemed to be a little bit of a rivalry between Stonewall and Riverdale high schools. We also know that they were filming their fellow classmates, it wasn’t just Betty and Jughead and Moose. There were tons of illegally recorded tapes it seemed like quite the extensive operation. We also know that some of those tapes ended up in the Scarlet Room. But Donna’s got a problem now. Her disciples have either left the country are dead or are in jail. So she needs to find new ones. I think she’s formed a new group and I think this group consists of Terry and Mr Honey. I think Terry helps out by getting the victims. He’s got a wide pool of employee’s who do films for him, he could easily get people from out of town who would sit down in a chair and be tied up and think nothing of it just assuming its part of some weird kink, because I refuse to believe innocent tickle porn is that only kind of video that man shoots. I also think that he was the one in the Cliff mask. As for Mr Honey I’m not as sure on what his role could be. But we do know that Donna has worked with a teacher for nefarious reasons in the past so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to say that she could be doing it again. He could possibly be the delivery guy. Maybe he’s the one going around putting the tapes on doorsteps now. It would be much less suspicious for someone to see Mr Honey about Riverdale than Donna or Terry. He could also be dropping some off at the Scarlet Room. Speaking of I do think this could be where they all met/ connected. I mean as a film maker it wouldn’t be unusual for Terry to sell some videos to the store. We know Mr Honey visits the Scarlet Room. As for Donna while Jughead assumes the tape of him and Betty was put there by Bret, Donna had admitted to seeing the tape so its just as likely that it could have been her that put it there.
Maple Rum Snoosefest.
So I figured I’d cover Veronica’s and Cheryl’s Maple Rum storyline here as to be honest I don’t have alot to say about it. Unlike the tickle ring stroyline which could potentially have some relevance to the main plot, I just don’t see how this one fits in. To be honest I find the whole thing boring. I mean its just another plotline with Veronica being at war with her Father. Plus the whole Veronica thinks her dad has changed because he spared someone only for us to find out he had murdered someone. Like we get it Hiram is a horrible, manipulative git you don’t need to keep showing us that at this point. I suppose the purpose of it was also to show that Hiram’s illness is really starting to have an effect on him because he never would have been beat up like that before, its this idea that Hiram is finally starting to get weaker so we might be coming up to his downfall. Also I found the whole scene after the thugs break into the Maple Club and Cheryl is all like poor momsie and Veronica is all apologetic to Penelope absolutely hilarious. Like this woman is a murderer, you had her on trial a few episodes ago and then you locked her up and now have her in forced labour as punishment but all of a sudden we’re suppose to be concerned for her. We’re suppose to believe that these two girls are concerned for her? Really? Being brutally honest here I kinda feel the same way about Penelope as I do Hiram which is I just don’t care. I don’t care about the rum storyline, I don’t care that Hiram is ill and I don’t care if Penelope nearly gets beat up by thugs, I just don’t have any sympathy for either of those characters seeing as they’ve been painted as truly terrible people and parents so far so why is the show trying to get me to care about them now. Sorry but its just not going to happen.
Barchie
Ok so the other main plotline and the one I think its the one most people are talking about. Now let me start out by saying that I don’t think for one second that Barchie is over. In fact I think this is just the beginning. The episode in regards to Barchie pretty much went the way we all thought it was going to go with Archie being much more willing to persue something than Betty. So lets go through all their scenes and analyse every little moment of them because you know its fun.
We first see Barchie away from each other. Betty is refusing to get caught up in another mystery and while some of this might be because she’s got too much else on her mind with what happened with Archie, I do think some of it is that she is just tired of it all, she’s going to Yale in a few months and I think she wants to just leave all that murder stuff behind her and focus on her future outside of Riverdale. When we first see Archie we see him playing his guitar and it looks like he might already possibly be working on the song for Betty. While he is playing he flashes back to the kiss. He then walks over and looks at the form for the Naval Academy and then out the window towards Betty’s room. I do think this is suppose to show that Archie is torn. He’s torn about whether to go to the Navy and hes torn about what to do about his feelings for Betty. I also think the two are linked, he unsure of whether to join the Navy because of Betty. Also I think the writers have left another little clue for us in this scene. When Archie picks up the form underneath it are some dominoes. I do think this is symbolic of the situation they find themselves in now. That kiss was the first domino and  they’ve knocked it over, now thanks to the domino effect all the others are going to come crashing down too, its only a matter of time.
After Archie looks out his window we switch over to see Betty in her room reading her diary. This entry is talking about the day she first fell in love with Archie and we get a flashback to Mini Barchie waving at each other through their windows so know we’ve got another iconic window scene to add to our gif sets. It’s worth noting that while reading this entry she is smiling so we know she is thinking of the memory fondly. Howver when Alice comes in and they start talking about the future and getting teary eyed, Alice asks what Betty could have to cry about it Betty flashes back to the kiss and gets teary. It shows that while Betty might be looking back on the past fonly she has lot of guilt and uncertainty about the more recent kiss. She’s very confused about her feelings.
The next time we see them is the first Bunker scene. Here we see them laying on the bed together and they start out by telling the other where their significant other is at. Betty tells Archie that Jugead is with Charles and Archie replies that Veronica is with Cheryl. I think in this moment wher ethey are lying close together and its intimate and all these feelings for each other are welling up they bring up Jughead and Veronica to remind each other that there are two other people involved in this, who are going to be affected by this. It’s at this moment that Betty asks what they are doing there? She is trying to figure out her feelings and what all of it means, whether its real, she’s despesrately trying to find the answers. But Archie doesn’t have an answer for her as he as just as confused by situation as she is, there is one thing he is sure of though and that’s this feels nice. Betty then admits that yes it is but that they can’t do anything more than this. This is very telling because it tells us that not only is Betty thinking about doing more with Archie she clearly wants to. It almost like shes saying it as a caution to Archie and herself, she saying this is nice I like this but we have to be careful because it would be far to easy to get lost in each other and go further. I did think Archie’s response to this was kinda funny, he’s like we’re just hanging out. It is a typical Archie/ teenage boy response and again its very telling because it actually shows that one Archie is a little in denial here, there is obviously more going on here than them ‘just hanging out’. It also seems like Archie is trying to find a reason for them to keep doing it by painting it as being more innocent than it actually is. He trying to justify them being alone together by thinking well we’re not doing anything romantic or anything. But while it may seem fairly innocent, I mean they are just laying on a bed, on top of the covers, with their clothes on, the reality is they are both having romantic thoughts about each other and this moment is actually a very intimate moment on an emotional level. The might not be physically cheating but they are being emotionally unfaithful and deep down they both know it. I think this is why Betty says she loves Jughead at this moment. She needs to say it out loud because she’s getting overwhelmed by her feelings for Archie, she needs to remind herself of Jughead who she could really hurt. Archie’s reply is actually really interesting firstly because he pauses for quite a while before answering, his response doesn’t come automatically to him but also because all though he also says he loves Veronica he adds a but. Have you ever heard that saying that nothing a person says before the word but really counts? I think its from Game of thrones. I think that is relevant here Archie says he loves Veronica but this feels nice. So if we’re saying nothing before the word but counts then what Archie is really saying is this feels nice. He also adds a question to the end of it. This feels nice, right? Again this is important because it is telling us that Archie needs that confirmation from Betty. He needs to know she feels the same that he’s not in it alone. Although Betty doesn’t give a verbal response to this I do think we can safely say she does feel the same as we see her turn to look at him and they spend some time staring into each others eyes before taking each others hands. I think in this moment they needed to make some kind of physical contact with each other, their feelings are drowning them but they know that at any moment they could knock some more dominoes and cross the line. But handholding is safe right? I mean they’re just hanging out right?
The next time we see Archie he has gone to his Father’s grave. Like I said I do get this feeling that Archie is just really confused and at a loss. He talks about how he wonders what advice his father would give him. That it would probably something like follow your heart. Archie admits that he doesn’t know which way it is pointing and he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He is at a crossroads right now. He’s got several paths in front of him that he could take and he doesn’t know which one is the right one, and even scarier than that he doesn’t know where any of them lead, what could be hidden round the bend? Does he stay with Veronica, something he is familiar with and a person he loves and has a lot of history with? Does he stay in Riverdale after high school and focus on the center and his dad’s business? Does he persue his feelings for Betty another person who he has alot of history with but who he now has new romantic feelings for? Does he join the Naval Academy and get an education? There are so many possibilties in front of him but so many unknowns too. Its no wonder why he’s really missing his dad right now as thats the person he would ordinarily talk this all out with.
And then we were back with Betty. Again she is reading her diary, this time its about the proposal. She describes this day as the happiest day of her life, which is just super adorable. She again flashbacks to Mini Barchie and the proposal and can I just say that red heart ring is so cute and I do think it might pop up at some point again, they did take special effort to give us a close up of it and I can’t help but wonder what happened to it. Did Archie still give it to Betty anyway as a kind of promise ring? Did he keep and its in a draw somewhere? Who knows but I do think itll eventually end up with Betty. Kevin interrupts Betty’s thoughts when he asks if she ok and when she answers yes she was just thinking, he asks if she was thinking about simpler times to which Betty agrees. The thing is if we look at it from Betty’s point of view it really was a simpler time. Back then she was certain about what she wanted. She wrote in her diary ‘I know I want to marry Archie but I know we’re too young.’ Little Betty knew exactly how she felt and exactly what she wanted. There was no boyfriend whose heart she could break, there was no best friend who she could utterly destroy with her betrayal. There was only her and Archie. Fast forward ten years and shes in a very different situation then what her younger self thought. As a child she believed this was the time when she and Archie would be getting engaged, when they were 18 and in high school. Now all those feelings she felt then are back but its far from a simple situation.
I don’t think its at all surprising that when we return to Archie he is working on a song. Archie has always tried to work his feelings out through songwriting and music. We can see him smiling throughout the entire process of wrinting this song. Now I was going to wait and talk about the meaning of the song later when going through the second bunker scene but I actually think we should cover it now. I mean if Archie has written a song for Betty then obviously we need to study every single line in great detail just because what else would we do with it? So lets first start with the title. According to the video I found on youtube its called ‘Carry the Torch’. Now if this is the official title then this is very intersting as the phase means to love something for a long period of time. Us Barchie shippers have been saying all along that Barchie never lost their feelings for each other and I do think this confirms that. The first line of the song is ‘There’s no warning when everything changes’, pretty obvious that Archie is talking about the sudden emergence of their feelings for each other here. I also think its interesting that for Archie everything has changed. Literally nothing is the same for him anymore, not his feelings for Veronica, not his plans for the future, his feelings for Betty, literally everything is up in the air.
‘You let down your guard and I saw something strange, I thought she’s not made for this world and neither am I.’ The part about her letting down her guard I think is in reference to how previously in season 1 after he broke her heart she became more guarded with Archie to the point where when he tried to talk about his feelings with her in the season 1 finale she shut him down. Now though she’s let that guard down, she’s kissed him and she’s met with him in the bunker, she admitted she was feeling something for him. As for the part about seeing something strange and thinking she’s not made for this world I again think this is a throw back to how he used to see her. I’ve said before that I always thought a huge part of the reason why Archie rejected Betty in season 1 is because of how he saw her as this perfect girl next door and so much more than he ever would be. I think he’s now realised thats not true. That she’s not the same person anymore and neither is he. The line about not being made for this world is a little more ambiguos to me but I think he means they aren’t made to fit into a box, they both a little different. I mean I think they have had similar paths, they both have struggled with a dark side that was brought into exisitence by the same man, the black hood. Archie’s anger at the black hood lead him down some pretty dark paths, Betty got the calls from the black hood that also took her down a dark path. They were both manipulated by someone they thought they could trust. Archie was manipulated by Hiram and Betty was manipulated by Chic. They have both lost their Fathers suddenly. I think Archie is trying to say that whereas before he saw them on different levels now he recognises that they are on the same, that they match. It could also mean that they aren’t meant for the world of Riverdale, this world that’s steeped in blood and violence, Archie has always seen their relationship as being something pure, that childhood innocence, maybe he’s saying that their love is being blocked because of this world where they can so easily be corrupted. How he feels for Betty is so pure that it doesn’t belong in this world of evil and corruption its on another level it doesn’t fit in with this world, its just too good if I’m making sense here.
‘Cause you make me wanna be stronger than I am.’ Another fairly obvious one Archie wants to be good enough for Betty he wants to be worthy of her. She inspires him to better himself and again we this alot throughout their relationship. She supports his music and encourages him to persue it, we know that story of how she helped him get caught up as children so he wouldn’t have to repeat a grade, we also know that she helped him with his schoolwork when he got out of prison. She always believes in him and he always listens to her advice and lets her guide him. The next line is ‘Maybe I’m reaching, misplacing a feeling. There’s no way to know but to try.’  This line is really showing Archie’s confusion. But it also tells us alot about how Archie is thinking. He recognises that isn’t certain of his feelings that he just be mistaking nostalgia but he also says the only way they can know is to try. This is kinda what I’ve been saying myself. The only way Barchie are going to get closure is if they explore their relationship otherwise they are always going to wonder, they’ll always be a what if. It seems from these lyrics that Archie thinks this too that he wants to try and see what they could be.
Ok I do want to point something out real quick here. We know that Archie didn’t sit down and write this song all in one session. This song was written over a couple of days and as I said I do think Archie uses music to sort through his feelings. All of the lines above come from the first verse of two. Here’s the thing there is a huge change between the two verses. In the first it is very much about new, tentative and unsure feelings. However as you will see as we go through the second verse it is much more sure and certain. Archie has made up his mind about what he wants and its reflected in this second verse. “So give me tonight, I don’t know much but I knoww this feels right.’ Archie might be a bit clueless most of the time, he might make mistakes and he might not have all the answers but in all that uncertainty one thing he does know, beyond a shadow of doubt that what he feels for Betty is right. I mean if you compare the line ‘maybe I’m reaching mistaking a feeling’ with this line ‘but I know this feels right.’ This is such a huge turn around. Those lines couldn’t be more different. From the line give me tonight it does make me think that the first verse was written sometime after the first bunker visit but before he goes to see Betty and arranges to meet her at the bunker tomorrow evening. I think the second was written the next day when he knew that evening he was going to sing the song for Betty. In that time he had recgnised that his feeling were real and that they felt right.
‘So give me tonight, If you carry the torch, I’d follow the light, I’d follow the light.’ Here again Archie repeats give me tonight. I think he understands that Betty is unsure and so he’s asking her to hear him out, to keep an open mind to come to this conversation he wants to have. It seems to me like Archie very much wants to talk about how they are feeling and have that conversation that lets be honest they should have had the last time they kissed. When he says ‘if you carry the torch I’ll follow the ligh’t this is huge. He is literally saying that if she says that she has feelings for him, if she wants him too then he’s all in. He wants to be with her, its as plain as day in those lyrics. Like without a doubt if she had said she wanted to be with him he would break up with Veronica and be with Betty and does come across as what he wants.
One thing I will say real quick is that I do think Archie needs to break up with Veronica anyway. Irregardless of whether Betty is willing to be in a relationship with him or not if he is having feelings as strong as what he is portraying in this song that its not right for him to continue with Veronica. As much as it would suck for her and as much as I’d hate to see her hurting, I think Veronica is an amazing woman and person and deserves a heck of a lot better than to have someone settle for her.
When we go back to Betty the diary entry of the day is talking about how they used to listen to records together. Again I don’t think its a coincidence that right after we see Archie working on a song Betty flashes back to them listening to music, music has always been a predominant part of their relationship. Again child Betty describes it as the best day ever. Betty seems to be trying to work through her feelings by looking back at old memories everytime we see her shes got one of her diaries in her hand. What I do think is interesting is that while Archie seems to be looking forward, looking to their furture Betty has chosen to look backwards. I kinda get the sense that Betty is frightened of the future and so her tactic for dealing with that is to just not think about all the much. So she’s getting lost in the past. Archie then shows up and can I just say I love Archie he’s so adorable, like he literally spent the entire episode writing songs and trying to think of ways to hang out with Betty. When he says that he’s there to help her with the year book it is so obvious that he is looking for any excuse to be around her. Definitely had th esame vibe about it as ‘we’re just hanging out.’ Bless ya cotton socks Arch. Anyway Betty sees right through Archie and points out that he’s not there for the yearbook. This is when Archie confesses that he can’t stop thinking about her. She says that they can’t do this but then after looking at him for a moment continues with ‘not here’. Naturally Archie gets very excited at this little bit of hope and Betty admits she can’t stop thinking about him either. Now the next couple of lines of dialogue I think are very important. They arrange to meet at the Bunker but Betty doesn’t want to meet that night but the next. The reasoning she gives for this is so that they have time to think about it and ‘make sure this is what we really want.’ The reason why this is such a big deal is because of the implications behind it. Betty is basically saying that in this moment at least she wants to be with Archie, this means that in this moment she had pretty much decided she was going to leave Jughead for Archie. The intersting thing is that she asks for that delay. I think some of it is yes so that she herself can be sure that it is what she wants and that she isn’t going to change her mind. But more than that I think she wants to make sure Archie won’t change is mind. I mean look at it from her perspective he has broken her heart before. Not only that but after they kissed last time when she next sees him after that night he is kissing Veronica and its obvious their back together, we know that Barchie hadn’t talked about the kiss at this point and they shared a look when Archie spotted her and realised she had seen him kiss Veronica. This must have hurt Betty too its possible she hadn’t spoken to Archie yet because she was working up the courage, unfortunately Archie could have seen the fact that she hadn’t tried to talk about it with him as indifference on her part which is part of the reason why he goes back to Veronica. I think Betty is thinking ok he says he can’t stop thinking about me now but lets wait a bit and see if that cools off and it changes because if we start something up for real then not only have they hurt the people they care about for nothing but Betty’s heart will be broken again.
Betty continues to read her diaries in the meantime and the next entry we get is acutally really telling given what comes next. In this entry Betty is talking about how much she hates Cheryl for kissing Archie. This is relevant because unlike the others this isn’t some happy memory of childhood love, in this memory she is remembering what it feels like to see someone you love kiss someone else. I suspect she is then recognising that this feeling is what Jughead and Veronica will go through if she does persue things with Archie. These thoughts and feelings are fresh in her mind when Cheryl comes in. This part of the episode does seem to have split some opinions in the fandom and caused a bit of a stir. Alot of people feel like it was really out of character for Cheryl to say that what Betty feels for Archie isn’t real and that she is in love with the idea of him considering she was the one saying that it looked pretty real to her just a few episodes ago. I agree with that I was very confuse myself by it when I first watched the episode. But since then I’ve gone back and watched the scene again and I’ve got a few things I think we should think about with this scene. Firstly we need to remember that Cheryl unlike the audience, doesn’t have all the facts. She doesn’t know about the kiss, she doesn’t know that Betty fantasized that dance, she doesn’t know about them meeting in the bunker. Betty straight up denied anything had happened between them when Cheryl asks. I think in these instances its really important that we look at it from the character’s pov. We can actually learn alot from studying Cheryl’s facial expressions during this scene. They are very subtle but if you look closely enough it can make you understand Cheryl’s thought process also it gives us an excuse to look at Cheryl’s beautiful face so its win win. This is Cheryl’s face when she first realises that she was right and Betty is having real feelings for Archie.
Tumblr media
She is clearly excited and happy at the news. This is much more in line with what you’d expect from Cheryl after her comments about it looking real. However her demenour changes after Betty says she thinks a part of her had been in love with Archie for the last ten years and she suddenly looks alot more sombre and well sad to be honest...
Tumblr media
So why the sudden change? Well her expression also seems really sympathetic to me as well as sad and her expression makes alot more sense when you see what she is seeing. She is looking at Betty in this moment and this is how Betty is looking at that moment.
Tumblr media
I mean look at her, she is so devastated, she is clearly hurting and struggling. Now again we have to look at this from Cheryl’s pov. While she might put on an act alot of the time and while its true she seems to enjoy chaos, she isn’t a heartless person. In fact on many occasions we have seen a softer side to her an example of this with Betty is when Betty suspected that her dad was a serial killer she went to Cheryl and she was supportive of Betty and gave her some really good advice. Well they might not be bosom buds Betty is still Cheryl’s cousin, her family. Again if we look at it from her point of view not knowing about the kiss or any of that then Cheryl likely sees it as Betty has started to have feelings and the idea of it is really upsetting Betty. If Cheryl did know about the kiss she might have given different advice but she doesn’t. It’s also possible that Cheryl may be feeling some level of responisibilty for Betty feeling upset now because she was the one who put the idea in her head that she had real feelings for Archie. I actually think Cheryl is trying to find a way to cheer Betty up, to comfort her when she gives this explanation that she’s just in love with the idea of Archie.
Tumblr media
I went to a body language class once and the guy told us that when a person lies or is trying to tap into their imagination they look up and to the right because its the creative side of our brians. If a person looks up and to the left they are trying to tap into the memory side of their brains. The interesting thing about Cheryl in this scen is she actually does both, her eyes flick from one side to another. Now I’m not an expert in body language I only ever went to the one workshop that covered the basics but to me this would suggest that Cheryl was searching for something to say here whether it comes from her imagination or a memory doesn’t matter she just wants to think of something to say that will cheer Betty up that will make it better.
Tumblr media
If you look at Cheryl’s face right before she says false and then goes on to explain that she’s in love with the idea and that what she has with jughead is real, to me it has that lightbulb look. You know the one I mean, when you’ve just had an idea pop into your head? Yeah I think this is Cheryl’s that’s it, that’s the solution to the problem moment. You can see it alot better when you watch the scene you can see the moment where it pops into her head. So I do think this was more Cheryl’s miguided way of cheering Betty up. I mean like I said she doesn’t even have all the information about the situation all she knows is that Betty is feeling hella upset right now. I think Cheryl meant well but that she didn’t give the best advice at this moment. Also there’ another much simpler reason for why Cheryl said this. The writers. I think they want to draw this Barchie storyline out and play on the angst a bit and so they are using Cheryl here to throw a spanner in the works and delay Barchie getting together.
However that doesn’t mean that what Cheryl said doesn’t have some merit. In particular I think the line about being in love with the idea of the perfect romance is important. You know I actually half agree with Cheryl here. Only half though because I think this used to be true in the past. I think back in season 1 when Betty was more innocent and naive she was in love with the idea of the perfect romance with Archie. However now, when you think about it, it’s not possible for her to be. Mostly because she can’t have the perfect romance with Archie. By this point Archie has already broken her heart once, what’s perfect about that? They have already kissed and then hidden it from their significant others while pretending it didn’t happen in season 2, again what’s perfect about that? Now they’ve kissed again only this time its worse because they’ve actually cheated and now they know that if they do decide to be together alot of people are going to get hurt, yeah there’s definitely nothing perfect about that. My point is their relationship is already flawed, its already gone through the wringer and they already bear the scars from it, its not perfect so how can she be in love with the idea of a perfect love story with Archie? It not perfect but it is real. I need to point out as well that in this scene Betty admits that she has been in love with Archie the whole time. Yet when she talks about Jughead she says ‘I love Jughead’ not in love, love. I do think they’ve done this deliberately, this difference between the two phrases but I haven’t figured out what the significance of it is yet.
So now we’ve gotten to the second bunker scene. It starts off with Archie playing the song for Betty. What I do think is significant here is that whilst he is playing she flashes back to that scene where he was playing for them all and she gets overwhelmed and runs off. Like before when she was reading the diary entry about Cheryl she has remembered a time when she felt hurt and in pain because the person she loved had kissed someone else (Veronica in the cupboard this time) again she is thinking about how much that hurt her and how that’s how Jughead and Veronica are going to feel on top of that she’s got everything Cheryl said spinning through her mind and all just overwhelms her and she was to stop Archie. Another thing worth pointing out is when Archie asks if she doesn’t like the song she replies ‘it’s us, it’s us’ again here she is admitting that they are real, they are right because that’s what the song is about, so if she thinks the song is them that she must believe that. Yet I think in the end as she says she doesn’t want to hurt or lose Jughead. Ultimately that’s what it comes down to. It’s not that she doesn’t have feelings for Archie, its not that she doesn’t think they are right for each other, it not even that she doesn’t want to be with Archie, she just doesn’t want to hurt Jughead. She doesn’t want to face the consequences and so instead she just ends instead trying to convince them both that its just nostalgia and fear of things changing.
The immediate scene after shows that Archie is still playing the song and his mother comments how it must have been written for someone special, she assumes that its for Veronica. This is the moment when Archie says that he wants to join the Naval Academy and says he thinks it’ll be best to just have a fresh start. I mean this poor guy is so heartbroken that he’s decided that the only thing left to do is join the Navy. I do think being in the Navy is going to drastically change Archie in some ways it might be good for him as it will give him more control over his emotions and discipline but it also might make him a much harder person. We won’t know for sure until after the time jump but I do feel like we should prepare ourselves for seeing a very different Archie. Again though we are being shown Archie looking forwards to the future as a way of dealing with his current situation.
In contrast Betty is still focussed on the past, mainly on burning it away. But I do think its interesting that while one of them is obsessing over the future as an escape the other is losing themselves in the past in an attempt to deal. The thing is though neither one of them is focussing on the present on what’s going on right in the moment and so I feel like they are missing out. Its obvious that in this scene Betty still trying to convince herself that her feelings for Archie aren’t real. When her mother asks what shes doing she says she’s ‘exorcising her demons’ and then later after Alice points out that they are her childhood memories and that they are precious, Betty replies that they are just memories. I do think she is trying really hard to convince herself that what Cheryl said was true. I do think its interesting that its Alice in this scene that saves the last diary. I do think this diary is going to be an important plot point. I am very curious about whats in it. But I do find it ironic that Alice was the one in 3x01 who was trying to convince Betty to burn all her diaries but now shes the one trying to save them. Also it could be significant that Alice is the one to do this considering her past. When she was Betty’s age she too was in love with someone, FP. She too, like Betty is now, decided to not face these feelings and instead went for the safer option in Hal. As a result alot of bad things happened to her. While her life wasn’t necessarily terrible there was still something missing for her, the same can be said of FP. That decision to not face there feelings for each other had a direct impact on there lives. It had a domino effect. Like Betty and Archie Alice and FP had other opportunities to be honest with themselves and each other but didn’t.
As I said before I don’t think that Barchie’s story is over yet. There are too many things left undone. We still haven’t heard the whole song in the show yet. I do think its possible that Veronica will somehow discover the song, whether because she hears a recording of it, or hears Archie playing it or becuse Mary asks her what she thought about it. Then one of two things will happen. Either Archie will be faced with the awkward situation where he either has to admit the song isn’t about her or pretend it is and play it for her. Or when she hears it Veronica realises right away that it isn’t about her. Maybe Jughead also hears the song and also gets suspicious. I also think that diary is going to come back into it, maybe Betty reads something in it that makes her realise Archie is the one she wants and so she rushes over to see him and tell him only to find that he has already left, she gets to his room and there is a letter for her on his desk. Inside the envelope is an explanation that he’s left for the Navy, a loves confession and the heart ring is in there too. Then we’ll have the 5 year time jump where we find out they’ve been longing for each other the entire time. Oh the angst. The other thing is that Jughead and Veronica still haven’t found out about the kiss and with these video tapes popping up all over the place its only a matter of time before that one comes out. Also its worth saying that technically Archie and Betty still haven’t had a proper conversation about their feelings. While they were better this time around and they did touch on the fact they couldn’t stop thinking about each other their conversations were more about what they didn’t want then what they did. They don’t want to hurt Jughead and Veronica. So at the moment they are kinda at a stalmate.
Well thank you to everyone who read all the way to the end of this. I know it got real long, like I said a lot of thoughts about everything. Again I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next. I’m not sure how much information we are going to get from the next episode as its going to be a revenge fantasy from a story Jughead is writing but you never know, either way I’m still excited for the episode. So until next time.

Intrigue
Requested: Anon - If I could make a Malachi x reader request if you write Ghoulies? Reader constantly getting into trouble at Riverdale high so she's sent to Southside High after being expelled. When moving to Southside she starts up her mischief again and catches the eyes of the Ghoulies. She gets taken to Malachai for spray painting Ghoulie terf at school and the reader and Malachai instantly click?
A/N: hope you like this!. I also decided to stop doing mood boards unless I have inspiration, forcing myself to make them for every story is pointless. Also, be sure to send in requests because mine are open.
Word Count: about 1890
Tumblr media
*Flashback*
“Look principle Honey, I didn't mean to…”
“Didn’t mean to what Y/N? Dye Briane’s hair blue with her shampoo?”
“Hey, not my fault she stole it out of my shower bag” In reality, it was your fault you hated Briane, a girl constantly causing trouble for anyone she came into contact with. You wanted payback. Payback for the way she talked about your friends, and family. So you played a helpless prank on her, and you got in trouble.
“You still did it on purpose Ms. Y/N”
“And you are proving that how…”
“Ms. Y/N some respect please”
“Mr. Honey, you are talking about respect here when you have none for me. I did nothing wrong to Briane. You are siding with her because of our past. Because she is from the rich side of the North. Years I have been bullied by her and not once did I punch or cause blood, because I am way more of a decent human being then she is, I did nothing wrong Mr. Honey”
“Fine Ms.Y/N I will call it at a draw and you will both have 2 nights of detention” You smiled to yourself. “However, you are on very, very thin ice considering you were just here a week ago for allegedly replacing the dead frogs with live ones in last weeks biology classes.”
“Mr. Honey…”
“No Ms. Y/N like I said thin ice do you understand”
“Yes sir I do”
“Good now get out of my office”
*Flashback Ended*
“For weeks now you had been warned daily of the thin ice you were on with Mr. Honey, but you kept your distance and your cool. You needed school, needed it to get out of riverdale and not have to deal with the treacherous town. You may have done all those things, but they were innocent pranks to only get back at the ones that wronged you. You needed to defend your turf, it was what you were always taught before your parents passed. Your grandmother engraving into your brain that you needed to protect yourself before protecting others.
School had been a hassle, every teacher constantly watching every move you made. Every student trying to get you out. No one at riverdale ever liked you, they always saw you as the problem child. The one who dressed in dark clothes, and caused trouble, but none of them knew you at all, or had been through or known the things that you have. You went by your day to day after the incident with Mr. Honey, trying to stay out of trouble as possible. You got a detention for not doing homework, but you never got in real trouble. That was until science lab 3rd period two weeks into your thin ice warning. You were paired up with Briane, for an experiment where a cloud of white would rise when the chemicals were combined. You were in charge of the base and she was in charge of the reactant. However, as soon as you looked away to wipe your hands off for safety she poured the entire bottle of reactant in before screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Briane! You are interrupting the other students what is the meaning of this”
“Y/N, Ms. Murphy Y/N put the entire bottle into the mixture” You turned around stunned, you hadn’t even been looking when she did it, and then you saw the bubbles arise and begin to pour over the smoke filling the air”
“Everyone out of the classroom this instant, we will have to have it cleared for safety. Ms. Y/Nand Ms. Briane come to the principal's office with me at once!”
“Mr. Honey before you say anything I didn’t do it, I swear on my life, I was washing my hands when it happened, I wasn't even paying attention”
“Ms. Briane would you like to say your side”
“Oh yes Mr. Honey thank you so much. Well I was minding my business writing down our lab results of the temperature because I had poured the base, and when I looked up Y/N was pouring the whole jar in, I tried to stop her but she just kept pouring and then I screamed because I was scared and Ms. Murphy came over. Oh gosh, I don’t know why she would ever think to do that if we had more harmful chemicals we all could have died!”
“Everything will be fine Ms. Briane, you can leave my office now”
“Thank you, sir”
“Now Ms. Y/N”
“Mr. Honey, I promise I didn’t do it”
“Well it seems there are other stories at play here, and in our previous meeting, I told you, thin ice. I have decided to transfer you to Southside High”
“No Mr. honey please!”
“It is out of my hands Ms. Y/N”
“No it is literally in your hands, you incompetent piece of shit, You know what. I am fucking glad that I am not going to be a part of this pretentious north siders can do no wrong school. Good riddens, asshole!”
“Ms...”
“Shut up, I’m grabbing my stuff and you’ll never see me again, and you know what I am sooo glad I don’t have to look at your stupid face ever again”
You left the school on a bad note but did it really matter when you were going to a school that barely had programs let alone taught the kids what they needed to know. It was as if your entire world crashed down. Your grades would decrease, your barely existent social life would now diminish completely, and most of all your mindset. You gave up on being the girl that was good at school, but bad on the outside.
You started not caring, picked up art. Learned how to tag and make it so your print was known enough to be you but not to be identified in your other works. You praised your art teacher and got very close with her very quickly. You confided in her, she herself was a student at Riverdale high at one point, kicked out because she lived on the southside and they found out. You related with her in a way you hadn’t with anyone else, but that didn’t stop you from doing way worse things than shit Riverdale high could ever fathom.
When you first got to southside high you completely painted your locker, not crazy but definitely not allowed. You took money from people, yeah you never spent any of it, actually put it in for charity collections, not that anyone knew that. Everyone knew you as the new kid, that just did bad shit. No one knew why no one knew your background or history and no one cared to know one bit. You liked it that way, you enjoyed the animosity. You then moved from the school to walk around the town after ditching for the day. You luckily still live in the house your parents had once owned on the northside, now it looked like a rundown abandoned building on the outside, guess that matched the way your life was turning. You tagged the entire gas station, then the park moving up the hills and down the valleys tagging everything in your sight. Art was your outlet and the southside, your canvas. You had no idea you caught the eyes of a gang called the ghoulies. You didn’t know the turfs, or the sides, you were just a visitor in a town with many rules and regulations you had no idea about. You made a mistake tagging the run-down building on the corner, officially in ghoulie territory. But no one had caused you trouble before, so you were not expecting to turn around and find 5 men and women around in black studded jackets.
“Hello…”
“NO bitch tagging our turf who the fuck are you”
“Wait… your turf?”
‘Yes, this is Ghoulie territory and we are taking you to the king” You had no idea what they were talking about, you felt a bang against the back of your head before you were out cold. You woke up slowly words being heard around you your vision slowly clearing from the blurriness
“Spraying our turf huh doll?” You have seen this guy, seen him around the school more often than you like to admit. He always seemed to be where you were, lurking around corners, and tagging his own spots how he would like, but you never said a word to him, your rule of keeping to yourself always in the back of your mind. You knew of the ghoulies enough to know people on the northside were afraid, but in reality, them all standing in front of you, they were no scarier than a group of 3-year-old children.
“What...? Just figured I'd have a little fun, turns out your ghoulies are a lot less scary than people think. Oh, y/n by the way and you are ...”
“Malachai... a lot scarier than people think, nice to meet you doll, boys let her go, and leave the room, I’ll deal with her”
“Deal with me, I like the sound of that” You were let go, dropped to the ground, as Malachai ushered the men out of the room. You got up finding a chair and putting your feet up and onto his desk that resided in the back of the room.
“Off”
“What? The big bad ghoulie is a germaphobe”
“Nah I just like shiny things, and you doll are currently on my radar” He swiped your feet off the desk before plotting on top.
“So what are you gonna do to me dear king?”
“Talk”
“Talk…”
“You are an enigma Y/N, I want to get to know you”
“No one ever does… what do you want from me?”
“Like I said you intrigue me, I just want to get to know who you are. We are… similar”
“I’m not sure we are…”
“Stay here…”
“Alright” Malachai came back with a photobook, a photo book that once we started flipping through you realized it was him, a boy living on the northside. A boy in a big house on cherry street, with a mother and father, and sister. Grandparents, Christmas parties and… then it was taken from you.
“You’re from the northside?
“Like I said we are similar”
“How did you know I am from the northside”
“Lucky guess I’d say”
“And you… lived there?” “There are a lot of things people don’t know about me, like I said we are similar Y/N”
“I wanna know how”
“Guess you’ll have to stay to find out”
“Apparently so”

For the Halloween prompts: bughead, 1 or 16, your choice
16. ”If you say let’s split up, I swear to God.”
Archie was plucking on his guitar during lunch break, playing a song that was indistinguishable from the five other songs Betty had heard him play. The lyrics were never particularly subtle, each song was a similar tale of heartbreak. Betty didn’t think his song writing was particularly clever, but Archie seemed immensely proud of himself if a little shy about it.
Betty batted her eyes at him. “Wow, that’s so amazing, Archie,” she said breathlessly, pretending to be overcome with emotion.
Archie beamed. “I’ll write one for you next time, Betty.“
Betty wasn’t sure that would be something she could get through with a straight face. “Oh, Archie. That’s so sweet…”
While she was still thinking of an excuse to avoid that particular situation, they were interrupted by Jughead and Veronica taking seats beside them at their regular lunch table. Jughead had a mound of food from the cafeteria. Veronica had the discrete catering she’d had delivered to school by her butler.
“What’s happening now?” Jughead glanced between Betty and Archie, a sandwich already in his mouth.
“Betty likes my new song,” Archie answered enthusiastically.
Jughead gave Betty a knowing look, but she glanced away from him, feigning obliviousness.
Jughead had an uncomfortable way of seeing through her act. Veronica was much the same. Betty glanced across the table, where Veronica was drinking a red smoothie like she did everyday for lunch.
When Betty had been planted at Riverdale High, the plan was to be a nondescript student with nondescript friends. She had thought she had the perfect opportunity when she’d met the high school boy living next door to the house that had been provided for her and the two agents who were masquerading as her parents. Archie was the kind of dense teenage boy she knew would be perfect for helping her cover.
So, she had taken on the persona of a smitten high school girl. Archie had been flattered by her affections, and was eager to introduce her to his friends. However, the people he introduced her to were not the similarly oblivious jocks she was expecting. Instead, apparently Archie liked to attach himself with the outsiders.
Veronica was a recently dethroned rich girl from out of town. Betty had immediately expected Veronica to treat her as new competition for Archie’s attentions. So when Archie had asked Betty on a date right in front of Veronica, Betty had instinctively glanced her way to gauge her reaction. Veronica had met her eyes and shrugged. “No worries, B. Been there, done that.” Despite herself, Betty found that she enjoyed her company.
Jughead had apparently been Archie’s best friend since childhood. They were an odd combo. Archie was almost unerringly positive in his opinions of other people. Jughead was shrewd, critical, and quick witted.
He’d kept Betty at a distance for weeks, even though they shared a lunch table every day. Then one day, she had come out of literature class so heated that she had spent half of lunch break rambling about the ways high school education fed into the misogynistic ideologies of teenage boys.
As far as her cover was concerned, it wasn’t her finest hour, but when she had finally come to an end of her rant, Veronica had clapped delicately from across the table, and at Betty’s side, Jughead was grinning openly. Archie had blinked blankly and said, “Wow, I hadn’t thought of it that way, Betty.”
After that, Jughead’s demeanor around her changed. He gave her a small smile every time he saw her, even if he had just been scowling only seconds before. Sometimes it seemed like he would say things just to see if he could get her to laugh. Betty liked it. She liked him.
But that wasn’t the persona she had taken. And anyway, it was never good to get feelings mixed in with a job.
So she continued to be the girl who hopelessly pined for Archie while he gave her and every other girl in the school only temporary attention. Jughead would roll his eyes, and Veronica would watch her with a skeptical expression. And Betty would continue to fill her role, in position waiting for the Living Dead to come to Riverdale.
When she had been placed here, they had already known it was a matter of when not if the infection would grow to Riverdale. Betty had been provided with an arsenal of supplies to keep the infection under control and had a direct line set up at the house to call for backup. As far as Betty was concerned, she was prepared for it.
Except, she hadn’t exactly been expecting it to start at school, during the middle of lunch. There was a scream that broke through the comfortable buzz of lunch conversation. Betty turned and saw a student across the lawn pounce at the person in front of them, pushing them to the ground and gnawing at the side of their face.
Betty reached for the gun in her backpack, but before she had even pulled it out of the side pocket, she was abruptly lifted into the air. She had been hoisted onto Jughead’s shoulder as he started running.
“Wait!” she yelled, “What are you-” She pulled her head up and saw Veronica running at their side, pulling Archie’s arm along so hard he was struggling to run straight.
Since when had Jughead and Veronica been this strong? Betty struggled against Jughead’s grip but could barely even move.
“Let me down,” she insisted. She had extra weapons and ammunition stowed away in a hidden compartment behind her locker. If she could get there early, she’d be in a good position to take out those already infected.
Neither Jughead or Veronica paid her any mind, refusing to stop until they were several blocks away.
“What was that?” Archie asked, catching his breath. Jughead and Veronica didn’t seem winded at all from the run.
“Monsters in Riverdale,” Veronica answered simply.
Jughead finally let Betty off of his shoulder, gently sliding her down to her feet. She took a moment to give him a stern glare. “I didn’t ask you to do that.”
“Betty…” He responded with a disgruntled sigh.
“We might have just saved your life back there, B.” Veronica walked up beside her and put a hand on Betty’s shoulder. “I know this is going to be a lot to take in, but believe me. That was a zombie attack, and it’s only going to spread.”
Yes, I know, Betty thought. For a brief moment, she considered just telling them everything. Explaining that this was exactly why she was here in Riverdale.
She didn’t really have time for that. So she ran.
“Betty!” All three of them called after her. She ignored them.
Betty pulled out her handgun as she reached the school, and found a decent vantage point from behind a bench. Outbreaks could grow fast. By now there were probably at least a dozen Living Dead within the school.
She grabbed a large twig from the tree above her and threw it as hard as she could at the large metal trash can a few yards away. It made a heavy, echoing thud.
The creatures took the bait, walking in uneven steps toward the noise.
Betty took her shot, one after the other. There were more of them then she had bullets. She would have to get into the building if she wanted to clear them out.
She crouched, ready to run, when one of them approached her from the side. She spun around, lifting her leg so that she could kick it away, but before she could act, a large arm covered in matted fur swung against the creature’s head, batting it to the ground.
Betty looked up to see a towering beast with giant fangs, a torn flannel shirt and a knitted crown-shaped hat.
“What-” she muttered in disbelief.
“You could have just told us,” Jughead said, his voice recognizable, though significantly deeper than she was used to. She watched as his bones and muscles started to shrink. The fur quickly disappeared, leaving Jughead looking completely normal, except for the now tattered shirt that was barely hanging over his shoulders.
“Seriously,” said Veronica as she sat down on the bench Betty had previously been using for cover. Veronica had two long fangs along her front teeth that Betty had never seen before. “You could use our help. And let’s be honest with ourselves, if you offered Jughead so much as a kiss, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for you.” She glanced over at Jughead with a teasing smirk.
Jughead made a strangled groan.
Veronica turned back to Betty with a sigh, “Can you imagine how much of a pain it is to deal with a werewolf with a crush? I’ve had to shut him into a locked bunker just to keep him from howling outside your bedroom window.”
Betty glanced back at Jughead, words still eluding her. Jughead’s eyebrows were set in a scowl, but his face was a burning red. “Are we taking care of the zombie problem, or not?” Jughead said, tucking his head toward his chest and turning away from them.
“What about me?” Archie asked. He was standing several feet behind them, looking a little lost.
“We’ll see if we can grab you some football gear or something,” Jughead growled. In the blink of an eye, he was a wolf again. Then he turned to Betty, his body still tense, but his eyes soft. “What’s the plan?”
“Can you get me to my locker?”
“No problem,” Veronica said with a brilliant smile.

Hoodie- Fangs Fogarty Imagine
Jennifer grew up living in the Southside of Riverdale, having been raised by her single mother until her mother up and left. So, she and her brother had to fend for themselves from a young age which ended with her brother becoming a Serpent and she dating one. The Southside was a dangerous place to live even for a girl who was surrounded by Serpents her whole life. But even more so for Jenny seeing as her brother was a well known Serpent. Sweet Pea didn’t like his sister being involved with the Serpents but knew he couldn’t stop her, especially after she began dating Fangs. Which is how Jenny ended up working at the Whyte Wyrm.
“Can I get another round, gorgeous?” Jenny heard a man say from behind her, she turned around seeing one of the few college kids who decided to turn up in the small town of Riverdale for spring break.
“Sure thing.” She gave a nod and poured four pints of beer and set them in front of him. “$28.” She stated as he handed her $30.
“Keep the change.” He sent her a wink before heading back to his table. Around the same time Jughead Jones moved and sat at the bar.
“Hey Juggy.” She smiled at the Serpent King.  “Want something to drink?” She asked turning and already pouring him a drink.
“Thanks Jen.” Jughead glanced around. “Where’s Fangs and Sweet Pea? Normally they’re always around you on Friday nights.” Jughead said as Jenny was wiping the bar down.
“Sweet Pea had something to do tonight, a run I think.” She shrugged. “And Fangs is at his parents, probably being lectured.” She stated before hearing a glass break, she looked up as Jughead glanced back at the group of guys who had dropped a pint of beer. She groaned grabbing a rag and moving around the bar to go clean the beer up.
“Sorry gorgeous, didn’t mean to drop it.” Another guy said with a smirk as Jenny stood up.
“Don’t worry about it, happens all the time.” She said before cleaning the glass up then moving away towards the bar, Jenny felt a pinch to her ass causing her to stop and turn towards the guy who bought the beers. “Don’t touch me.” She stated, the guy moved towards her and touched her arm, Jenny smirked and twisted his arm around his back and slammed him against the nearest table causing all the Serpents to stand up behind Jughead.
“There a problem Jenny?” Jughead asked puffing out his chest. Jenny smiled sweetly at him.
“I don’t know, is there?” She leaned towards the guy before letting go and stepping towards Jughead whom stepped forward.
“You might be new around here.” He stated staring at the four guys. “We don’t stop anyone from coming into our bar, but you should know you mess with Jenny, you mess with the Southside Serpents.” Jughead stated. The guys nodded and backed off. Everyone going back to what they had been doing beforehand.
-
Jennifer sighed as she noticed Sweet Pea come storming in, Fangs not far behind.
“You good?” Sweet Pea pointed at Jenny as he headed towards the group of guys at the back of the bar.
“Sweet Pea I’m fine!” Jenny called as he turned his full attention to the group of guys. “Fangs,” Fangs cut her off with a look, the two stopping in front of the group of college students “Who called them?” Jenny looked at Jughead who shrugged as she hopped over the bar and made her way over to her brother and boyfriend. Next to Sweet Pea was a younger Serpent who had been newly initiated, he was pointing towards the one who had pinched her. “Sweet Pea.” Jenny stated touching her brother’s shoulder before jumping when Fangs slammed the guy against the wall.
“You touch my girl?” Fangs was never one for violence unless provoked. Most of his violence stemmed from people saying things about Jenny or doing something to Jenny.
“Fangs! Stop it!” Jenny moved around Sweet Pea and grabbed onto her boyfriend’s arm. “Look at me.” Fangs was still holding the guy against the wall, his forearm to his neck. Fangs refused to look at Jennifer. “Baby, I’m okay, really, I’m fine. Let him go.” Fangs pressed the guy harder to the wall.
“Here’s what you’re going to do. First, you’re going to apologize to my girl. Then you’re going to take your friends, pack up, and leave Riverdale.” The guy began nodding frantically and Fangs stepped away from him, wrapping his arm around Jenny’s shoulder. The guy apologized and his friends and him left. Fangs lead Jenny over to the bar, Sweet Pea not far behind.
“Here.” Jenny placed a beer in front of them both. Sweet Pea thanked his baby sister before heading over to the pool table.
“You’re good right?” Fangs asked her after he finished his beer. “He didn’t hurt you or anything?” He asked holding onto Jenny’s hands.
“Yeah, I’m fine, he didn’t do much, just pinched my ass.” She stated softly. “I handled him, probably scared the shit out of him and his friends when they saw all the Serpents standing behind me.” She smiled before leaning across the bar and pressing her lips to his. “Next time I tell you to drop something, I expect you to drop it baby. Go on and play pool with Sweets, he looks mad that he’s playing with Anthony.” Jenny nodded towards her older brother before Fangs stood up.
“Love you.” He kissed her again before joining Sweet Pea at the pool table. Jennifer shook her head and finished her shift at the bar before she headed over to Sweet Pea and Fangs at the pool table and handed them both another beer, Fangs kissed her cheek, before she sat at a table near by while watching Fangs and Sweet Pea beat two newer Serpents at pool.
“They seem to be doing well.” A Serpent sat next to Jenny, one who was only initiated the night before. “I never caught your name?” He stated as Jenny glanced over at him, he obviously hadn’t been there when they confronted the man for touching her.
“They’re the best. And Because I never gave it.” Jenny shrugged crossing her legs and glancing back at her boyfriend and brother.
“Well I’m Oliver.” He stated as Jenny nodded. “You any good at pool?” He asked, Jenny realized he was a talker.
“Pretty decent.” She was leaving her replies short as she took a drink of her water, not being one for alcohol even though she worked in a bar.
“Maybe you could teach me one day.”
“You’re better off asking Sweet Pea or Fangs, they’re way better.” She grinned as Fangs and Sweet Pea took their money that they won and Fangs made his way over to her.
“Hey babe.” Fangs kissed her head as Sweet Pea passed her a handful of money.
“Put that away for rent.” He stated as Jenny nodded and folded the money into her pocket.
“Oliver, right?” Fangs looked at the guy sitting at the table with Jenny before he lifted the petite girl up and sat her on his lap, Sweet Pea pulling a chair to the table and sat drinking his beer.
“Uh, yeah.” Oliver nodded. “Fangs, Sweet Pea, right?” He looked at the two.
“Yep.” Sweet Pea stared at the boy for a minute watching his nervous glance towards Jenny and Fangs before laughing. “You should keep your looks to yourself man, Jenny and Fangs have been together since we were kids, so don’t bother, plus, that’s my sister.” Oliver said nothing before he stood up and walked away causing the three to laugh.
“You didn’t have to do that Sweets, I had him handled. Was actually about to send him your way for some pool tips.” She teased as Fangs chuckled. “Let’s head home.” Jenny looked to Fangs. “I’m super tired.” Fangs nodded and glanced to Sweet Pea.
“I’m staying here for a bit. Keep out of my sister’s pants.” Sweet Pea stated standing up and slapping Fangs on the shoulder.
“Can’t promise that.” Fangs said as he stood along with Jenny and to lead her out of the bar. “I’ll meet you back at your place.” Fangs said once they got to Jenny’s car.
“Drive safe.” Jenny drove back to her and Sweet Pea’s trailer where Fangs joined her not five minutes later. “God, it was a long day.” She stated before heading into her bedroom where she quickly changed into sweat pants and one of Fangs’ hoodies that she had stolen months ago. “You want to watch a movie?” She called from her room. “I hacked Toni’s Netflix account.” Jenny stated walking back to the living room to see Fangs in the kitchen moving around with some pots and pans. “What are you doing?” Fangs glanced back at his girlfriend and gave her a grin.
“Moving all the pots and pans to the bottom cupboards to fuck with Pea.” He stated leaning down and putting the pans and pots in the bottom cupboard.
“You do know you’re barely inconveniencing him right? He barely cooks.” Jennifer leaned against the island counter and watched as her boyfriend kept moving the pots and pans around. “Done?” She asked once Fangs turned to her with a grin.
“Yep.” He leaned against the counter across from her. “I’ve been looking for that hoodie.” He stated leaning closer to her and grabbing onto one of the strings as Jenny grinned at him.
“You haven’t looked too hard babe.” Jenny leaned even closer to him, a smile present on her face.
“I want it back.” He teased.
“You’ll have to try and take it Fogarty.” Fangs rose an eyebrow at the challenge.
 “Is that a challenge?”
“Hmm, maybe.” Jenny moved away from the counter and started backing up towards her room. “Come find out.” Fangs was around the counter before Jenny even finished her sentence. Jennifer grinned as Fangs’ hands fall to Jenny’s hips and continued walking into her room.
“How long you think we got until Pea comes home?” Fangs asked kicking the door behind him.
“We have enough time.” Fangs grinned before the two fell onto Jenny’s bed causing Jenny to squeal as Fangs began tickling her.
“Stealing my favorite hoodie, how could you? I thought you loved me.” Fangs pretended to be hurt as he tickled his girlfriend. “I’ll stop once you tell me you love me.” He grinned as Jennifer laughed underneath him.
“Okay, okay. I love you!” Jenny shouted causing Fangs to stop. The two sat up as Fangs pressed a kiss to lips.
“I want it back.” Fangs teased as Jenny smirked.
“Nope. Put a movie on.” Fangs rolled his eyes with a smile before getting off the bed to grab the remote to turn on Toni’s Netflix account. Whilst he was working on finding a movie Jenny kicked him slightly. “I’m getting impatient Fangs.” She teased. Fangs played a random movie before falling back onto the bed with Jenny.
“My clothes look better on you anyways.” Fangs mentioned as Jenny smiled up at him before the two cuddled and watched their movie.
As always, thank you all so much for reading. I kinda rushed with the ending so it didn’t end quite how I wanted but I’ve rewritten the ending five times today alone.

I. Have. So. Many. Feelings.
To say that I have watched that clip about 538372 times would be underestimating the number a little bit very much...and that's because I had to work.
You know how I knew this episode was going to be amazing? When Hermione says, "Are you really all this miserable?"
Oh, honey.
Have you been paying attention?!?!?!?!
This is why this particular musical worked so fucking well - b/c Heathers talks about teenage misery & disillusionment. I have yet to meet a group of teenagers as disillusioned & miserable as those that attend Riverdale High. With the exception of a very few, they have to deal with a whole bunch of adult shit, including the primary fact that their parents are off making decisions that affect them directly, without giving their children any thought. They have to deal with murder, drug use, gangs, cults & a role play game that kills people.
So...Yeah, Hermione. They are that fucking miserable.
Every teenager on that show is going through something - Betty, Jughead, Josie, Veronica, Toni... everyone. It speaks to how completely oblivious the parents are that they don't even fucking notice...nor do they seemingly care. The parents are too wrapped up in their own bullshit to see what their actions & plans are doing to their children... And with this musical, the kids are saying they've had it.
But alas. Nothing is ever so straightforward on our little show.
I must say, that the cult storyline that they're pursuing this season is both horrifying & so fucking apt to what this town has become. It's not just about the haves & the have nots, it's not about accepting who are you are, it's not even about how this brooding writer stole the heart of the girl next door. The town in & of itself is evil - it makes good people do bad things, & bad people do worse. It's about the cyclical nature of Riverdale - of how the sins of the father are sometimes paid by the son (or the daughter, in some cases), how daughters fail their mothers by being decent human beings, and how this picture perfect small town had everyone fooled that it was nice & quiet, when the exact opposite was true.
I find the cult so horrifying because people commit atrocities when they feel that they are morally superior. It’s this smug “oh you poor fool” attitude that every Farmie has that I find to be so incredibly sinister...especially when you realize that regardless of whether you’re in the Farm or not, they know everything about you, all your secrets, and will use them against you to break you.
Cults aren’t cool, my friends. Try your best not to join one.
This episode - especially in regards to the season as a whole - was fucking perfect. You have to look at where everyone is at - Veronica dealing with her family’s bullshit, Cheryl being the scorned bitter ex (it’s a job she does well, amiright?), Jug dealing with his mother being a fucking drug dealer... This musical was perfect for this season. As mentioned before, these kids have a right to be teenagers...and they can’t be.
Fuck it, I’m just gonna say it. The reasons this musical hit so hard is because in the town of Riverdale, there’s a grand total of 4 good parents in Riverdale, and one lives in Chicago full-time.
And the ending?
First off, let me say that I am not surprised I didn’t see Alice in the audience. She has shown that she has no concern for Betty whatsoever, & the statement that they were trying to make with the reprise was simple: Let us be kids again. You’re hurting us. Stop it.
But why would Alice do something that Betty needed? That’s just crazy talk!
And the mocking way that Edgar just stood up, & clapped? That was beyond fucking creepy. And you know what that said to me?
It doesn’t matter that the kids are breaking. It doesn’t matter that they’re too young to deal with any of the shit that they’re dealing with. It doesn’t matter, b/c it is falling on deaf ears, ears that are now only attuned to Edgar’s voice.
It was fucking chilling, people.
Now.
The. Scene. (or scenes, as it were LOL).
This was one of the most beautiful Bughead episodes in all of Riverdale history. You don’t have to take my word for it, you watched it, you know what’s up.
When we started with their story, no way they thought that investigating Jason Blossom’s murder would steer them down this path. Those two kids are fucking exhausted of having to investigate their friends’ parents, of having to constantly wonder when the other shoe is about to drop. The song works so fucking perfectly for them b/c they don’t want to do this anymore. They would so rather investigate the mystery meat served in the cafeteria, where did that extra $5k go that was meant for the library, & profile the new History teacher.
But they can’t.
A couple of weeks ago, the wife ( @paperlesscrown , for those of you not in the know - our wedding was fabulous btw. We honeymooned in Bali) & I mentioned how the core four needed each other b/c they each represented something different. Archie represented glory, b/c he needs the action. Veronica, pride - b/c she needs to brag. Betty represented justice, b/c she needs the balance. And Jug represented truth, b/c he needs the why. I bring this up b/c of this very important point - b/c of the nature of who they are as people, Bughead will always be trying to figure things out. It’s just who they are. That’s not the point I’m trying to make though.
The point I’m trying to make is this - Bughead is fucking exhausted. Jug’s anguished, “How did we get here?” kicks me in the gut, man - b/c how did we get here? He’s so tired, so sad...
...and then...Betty.
Listen, folks. I’m gonna keep it really real.
Bughead is the heart & soul of Riverdale.
Pass it on.
The support that they have for each other... it’s truly one of the most magnificent things on television. They both want to be 17 - just regular, normal teenagers.
But Riverdale won’t let them.
If you don’t find it so heart-wrenchingly beautiful that these two complex imperfect people are able to support each other unconditionally, then go to a doctor b/c there’s seriously something wrong with you.
That’s why the “You’re the one I choose” was so powerful to me. B/c you have two characters who, for most of their life, did not get a choice. Their choices were taken away from them, by crazy overbearing mothers & drunk violent fathers.
But this choice, this decision?
It’s all theirs. They are making it. Consciously. Firmly. Absolutely.
Betty will always & forever choose Jughead. Jughead will always & forever put Betty first.
If you don’t think that’s one of the best, most powerful ways to say, “I love you,” then I don’t know what to tell you, man.
Plus!
We get the “ Cuz you’re here with me.”
FUCK. ME. UP. SHOW.
I am going to explain why this line matters.
This entire season, all the attempts that Betty has made to help others have turned out fruitless. She would be ignored, vilified. She’s been trying to help everyone else...and it doesn’t seem to matter.
But w/ Jughead?
She matters.
She’s wanted, and needed.
Again, I say it. Bughead is the heart & soul of this show.
Christ, this episode was amazing.

09. HEADCANONS
Ryder always had trouble in school, he’d study for hours on end and still end up with B’s as his absolute highest, it was only after confiding in a friend in third grade that he had trouble reading and that friend told a teacher did he see a specialist and find out he has dyslexia. Which was a fact he didn’t disclose to many for a while until he got more comfortable with it. Though it still is a challenge for him sometimes and he doesn’t like to talk about it often.
Another challenge for Ryder is trusting people. Girls specifically. When he was eleven years old, his parents were out of town and he had a babysitter who walked in on him in the shower. After she went home and his parents came back, he never told anyone about it, but he does think it did something to him and caused his trust issues.
He got his Serpent tattoo and was officially a Serpent when he was 16, and he’s enjoyed it for the most part. They aren’t as crazy as the Ghoulies or anything and he’s very loyal to them. If anyone was to learn something about him, it’s likely to be one of his fellow snakes before anyone else.
Ryder went to high school on the Northside, it had better programs for dyslexic kids than on the Southside and his parents wanted him to get through school the best he can, and it went really well. He joined Glee, made some friends, almost thought he was going to get into college, but the last part didn’t happen. His grades were better since he was getting help with his dyslexia, but not good enough to get into any colleges.

I want to get into a little about what Beverly Hills 90210, and more specifically, Dylan McKay meant to younger me, and why this sudden loss of Luke Perry is hitting me so hard in the feels today.
BH90210 was the first prime time show about and for teenagers. There was the occasional family drama which included some teens - but nothing where the experiences and dramas of being at that age were fundamentally centered and explored. Saved By the Bell was a thing, but it was a comedy airing on weekends during the day.
Anyway, I was the same exact age as the kids on BH (the characters - not the actors). I was a sophomore in high school and already a huge lover of television when it first aired and I was immediately drawn to it. As were millions of other kids across the country. We were hungry for something like this.
And while most teen shows these days only last 3-4 seasons, falling apart once college ages set in, BH enjoyed 10 seasons taking these teens through college and into their young adult careers and relationships.
Dylan McKay was known as the bad boy, and he was probably my first big Bad Boy crush. But he was so much more than that.
At a time when my own brother was struggling with addiction and recovery, I got to watch this character on screen of my favorite show doing the same. Perry showed us the pain and anger that Dylan felt about his family situation and portrayed a character both desperately wanting to give in to the self-destructiveness of addiction and his will and drive to battle those instincts. It meant a lot to little teen me to see that play out, not just in one Special Episode and then tossed away, but brought up again and again as Dylan navigated the trials of teenage and young adulthood.
Another aspect of his character that was so compelling was his specific family dysfunction. All of the characters, save the cookie cutter stereotypical good Midwestern Walsh’s, had some major dysfunction or another (or several) and Dylan was no exception. When he is introduced to us, he has zero parental guidance. Neither of his parents are anywhere to be seen and he living alone in a hotel suite, managing all of the chaos of his addiction and recovery on his own.
Eventually, we do meet his parents and gain more insight into what caused this situation, and they do both attempt to make things right with their son. But in those early seasons - Dylan is alone.
You have to remember that Gen X was also known as the latchkey generation - one of the hallmarks of those of us coming of age in the 80′s and 90′s was this idea of neglect. Personally, I experienced a combination of good loving family and neglectful parenting (nothing so severe as Dylan’s). But the idea of this kid living on his own both literally and figuratively really spoke to me, and to many others of my generation.
Outside of his family issues and substance abuse struggles, Dylan was known as a Bad Boy because of his lack of regard for authority figures - which is understandable given his situation. Dylan also sneered at many popular conventions and had trouble relating to other kids his age - again understandable given what he was dealing with. But none of that made him a bad Person.
In fact, Dylan was always portrayed with a sort of gentle spirit. He cared about other people deeply. He was loyal to his friends. He was gentle and patient with Brenda in the start of their very passionate relationship, understanding that she was newer to physical intimacy than he was. He was always standing up for the underdog. And he was always there for any of his pals when one of then started struggling with substance abuse - to impart his wisdom and experience.
Which is not to say that he became Mr. AA. Dylan continued to struggle with the addiction - it popped back up more than once for him and he had to work to get back to his sobriety. It was refreshing, honestly, to see addiction portrayed in this way. Messy, difficult, not all forward momentum, not a thing you deal with once and now you’re all better. I was glad that it was just one of many important parts of who Dylan was, always.
Then there were his relationships with the other characters. He didn’t become close to many people. He was selective. For instance, his best friend Brandon was also best friends with Steve - that remained constant throughout the series. And while Dylan and Steve never had a rivalry, they also never became close just because they were close with the same people.
But the people he did become close with meant the world to him. He and Brandon quickly bonded and that bond didn’t break, even when they entered into a love triangle for Kelly. He remained close friends with several of his ex’s who became like family to him (Brenda, Kelly, Valerie even despite all her drama).
Brenda and Dylan were my first big ship - before I ever knew shipping was a thing. I still believe they’re out there somewhere, occasionally fighting, but mostly happy and loving one another passionately.
The show remained a favorite of mine, as I grew up alongside the characters. I continued watching it all through college and beyond, and there were many characters and stories that meant a lot to me over the course of 10 years. But Bad Boy Dylan McKay was a large part of it all.
That his last role was playing the only decent parent in the town of Riverdale on one of today’s most popular teen shows (at a time when the genre he helped to popularize has exploded) is just really meaningful.

Alright, to start off firstly - Stella is what I’d like to consider a mixture of Kat Stratford and Fiona Gallagher. She’s also totally the mom friend and momma bear of the younger serpents lbr
FAMILY UPBRINGING/DYNAMIC:
She is the oldest out of six children. Yes, six children. She has three brothers and two sisters. The birth order of the Valdez family is as follows: Stella (16 years old), Nick (13 years old), Avery (10 years old), Serenity  (7 years old), Evan (3 years old) and Rowan (4 months old).
The Valdez family has ultimately been labeled as that family on the Southside that ‘never stops growing’.  Basically, you blink - and there’s another member of that family.
Growing up, Stella has never came from a life of privilege. She’s never known of the concept of a trust fund or a comma in her bank account. For her, it always too small of clothes. Too cold of nights.  Too hungry of mornings. To be frank, she’s dirt poor. Always has been poor.
A majority of her younger years consisted of moving around, quite a bit. The places she grew up and lived in prior to Riverdale were not great by any means. They hardly had any furniture or personal belongings. They often consisted of a two bedroom apartment (if they were lucky) where Stella would find herself sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag because her family couldn’t afford actual beds. She wouldn’t actually have her own bed to call her own until she was over 10 years old.
She is of Cuban decent, having been born and spending the first years of her life in Miami, Florida.
Her parents grew up in the same neighborhood with one another, becoming close as teenagers, eventually starting to date once they were at the age of 16/17.
Her dad has had a criminal record ever since he was a young teen. Having been in and out jail throughout his life, even when he was a juvenile. He joined a gang within Miami when he was around the age of 13/14. As he grew older, he’d become more engulfed into gang life and what it involved.
Contrary to popular belief, Stella’s dad wasn’t always a terrible person or father. Yes, he has always done sketchy things but it was always because he needed to feed his family and provide for them.
When Stella was 5 years old and Nick was around the age of 3, they’d kiss Florida goodbye. One night, seemingly out of the blue, her dad came home late, extremely distressed, physically in bad shape, and shaken up, Stella and Nick had no idea what was going on, but they were told by their mom and dad to pack up enough things that would fit in the van and that they had to go. Completely fleeing the place they had been living at.
Unknown to them, their dad had an altercation with a rival gang that turned deadly. The rival gang members were trying to jump one of his ‘boy’s and Stella’s dad wasn’t going to have it. Having grown up with his fellow gang members, he had to be loyal to his guys. He ended up killing one of the members in the rival gang. Being afraid that his actions would put him and his family at risk, he had no other choice than to flee.
The death of the rival gang member eventually lead to her father becoming an alcoholic. This was a turning point in not only his life, but his family dynamic. This was a point in Stella’s life when she knew something changed and her parents weren’t truly her parents anymore. To this day, Stella still doesn’t know her dad killed a man.
When they fled Florida, they had little to nothing with them. They had very few belongings and no home. Their financial situation was at an all time low and for the next almost 3 years of her life her family was basically homeless; living out of the Friday van. She had dealt with temporary homelessness before, having to sleep in the family van for a few days or weeks at a time at the most. But, this would soon become months at a time. Stella had no idea where they were headed, but she knew Florida would never be their home again. They were lucky if they could spend a few nights at a time at homeless shelters and such. During this period in her life, she’d go days without eating full meals and the food she did have, she’d find giving to her siblings.
Before finding their way to Riverdale, her parents would fall into addictive tendencies, not putting the needs of their kids before that. This was a turning point for her when she came to realize that nine times out of ten, her parents were going to put their addictions before themselves. If she wanted to survive, she’d have to provide for herself and for her younger siblings.
She has learned to become a humble person and be thankful for the things that she does have. Even if it might not be much, she knows there is probably somebody way worse off than her. Living in the Sunnyside trailer park feels like luxury compared to the living conditions she was so used to during her childhood.
Nobody knows much about Stella’s past prior to moving to Riverdale. It’s not like she’s ashamed of it, she just doesn’t want to remember that low point in her life, or for people to take pity on her. (Of course, I HC that some people would obviously have to know about her troubled upbringing, but I can’t imagine it would be all of Riverdale, nor the Southside).
Officially moved to the Southside of Riverdale when she was 9, almost 10.
Throughout her childhood, her parents have had on and off custody of her siblings. CPS has had to step in and turn her family upside down more than once. With her mom being an on and off drug addict and her dad having drinking issues, it has only created chaos.
As of right now, her mom is currently not in the picture. She ditched her family shortly after the birth of her sixth child. Her dad’s drinking habits has increased due to her absence (they were under control for a bit, long enough for him to find stable work within Riverdale. Now, they are getting out of hand once more, him on the verge of loosing the job he currently has). Also, her dad’s anger has worsened and he has chosen to take it out on his oldest daughter while he is strung out. Currently no one knows about the abuse she is suffering at home and Stella wants to keep it that way. If anybody were to get too involved, that could mean the kiddos getting taken away from her.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Stella is actually extremely smart and a borderline genius. She has always done well in school without trying hard. It’s all come natural to her. She has a 4.0 GPA in school and her teachers have high expectations for her.
Stella has found ‘creative’ and ‘different’ ways to make money for her family. This includes doing other people’s homework/writing papers for them,  pick-pocketing, stealing, and scamming people out of money (with the help of her adorable little siblings). The ways she sees it - when you’re poor, the only way to make decent money is to steal it or scam it.
The girl, over the years, has found herself developing a love for cooking (mostly baking).  Aside from her non-conventional ways of making money, she works part time at a bakery on the Southside. It’s a job that she actually enjoys and she gets to score free bread and sweet-treats for her family.
Along with baking, she loves to read. This girl can finish a book in what seems like seconds. She’s not really picky with genre's, ultimately just loving the escape that books bring to her. You can usually catch her reading a book in the mornings on her front porch of her trailer, cigarette and coffee alongside with her.
She has dreams of possibly going to college and ultimately doing some good with her life. Either wanting to become a lawyer, working in the foster care system, or going for a business degree to open up her own bakery. But, even though she could get into some good colleges the thought of doing anything after HS doesn’t seem like a reality for her. She doubts she’ll be able to leave the Southside, as sad as it sounds. Plus, she has had the lingering thought of when she officially turns eighteen, becoming an official guardian (or possibly fighting to fully adopt) her younger siblings. She vowed to herself a long time ago that her family was going to come before anything, including herself. Her siblings future and well-being are more important than her own. All she wants is for them to have a wonderful future as they grow older and she is willing to do whatever it takes to do so. Even if it means putting herself on the back burner and not doing the things she, deeps down, desperately wants to achieve and accomplish for herself.
The Serpents have became the family she never knew she needed. She’s always been close to her southside neighbors and such, but eventually found herself joining when she was a young teen (age 14). She’s fully involved with them now and would do anything for her fellow Serpents.  She’d literally take the shirt off her back for her Southside family (but especially the Serpents). Even if her trailer may be tiny and always chaotic, her door is always open for a place to crash, to eat, or the such.
She’s never ‘too’ fond of the Northsiders due to have always been judged by them due to her lack of money and large family.
She drives an extremely old and beat up ‘mom van’ that she named Clifford. She can be seen toting around her younger siblings in it with pride. Please note though: Stella is a terrible, terrible driver. This bitch is constantly running over curbs and such. It’s a shock she passed her driving test in the first place.
