Ted Lasso Wednesday Thoughts!!! Rebecca's Dutch pal seems....he seems like a fella who could possibly be called Rupert...not that he seems like Rupert, just seems like A Rupert. And he would be a swell New Rupert lmao
Jamie taught his grandad to ride a bike, to honor Jamie's grandad's grandad. pardon me while I'm sobbing.
"You fellas say pillow fight one time and we're never watching a movie again" or whatever Ted said
Arguably my single most important thought ever? Ted got reverse-Princess-Bride-d. (To "get Princecess-bride-d" one would be served 1 of 2 glasses, both of which have Substance. a reverse-Princess-Bride situation is that you think both glasses have Substance, but neither does.) And neither of them referenced the Princess Bride??? The Beard serving glasses of tea with Something in it scene was so Dread Pirate Roberts and that's such a Ted/Beard movie!!! I'm hurt and shocked and offended not to have had them mention it.
#i say Substance b/c i'm not 100% sure if it's supposed to be weed or mushrooms or something else that idk about#(i'm much more a ted than a beard if you catch my drift)#in regards to the dutch fella's name i just simply think it would be funny!! I think they should do that and then the media can#call gross rupert Old Rupert (as they called our rebecca Old Rebecca) however i would also accept Crusty Rupert#ted lasso#ted lasso spoilers#ted lasso season 3#ted lasso wednesdays#and im gonna go ahead and hide my last prediction deep in the tags which is#i don't get the feeling Trent is capital-G-Gay (given that he didn't say he's gay he just came out and he's closer to a woman than ever)#it sounds like he's bi and still married the difference is that he's accepted himself and so has his wife (or whatever they are)#and naturally many bi people use gay either as their preferred label or an umbrella term so if that is trent's preference then that's lit#i just think he might actually be bi and happily married#and while i think trent and ted are in LOVE i just want them both/each to be happy#jinkies this is a lot of tags. b/c surprising no one i have many feelings about the theodore lasso show#anyway i don't think i'm being eloquent but i loved this episode i loved it i love trent and colin and keeley and i love this show#i also could felly be completely wrong about trent being bi and that would be a-okay by me!! i just kinda mean to say that while he is#decidedly LGBT and decidedly interested in men he didn't say that he's not into women. hope i'm making sense

Ted Lasso x Reader Love is a gamble we play and you've got much safer odds [3-part series] (on ao3) - Angst/Romance Between your friendship with Beard and your relationship with Ted, you've got a good thing going in Richmond. Ted Lasso x Reader Bad Dreams [2-part series] (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Fluff Tumblr request: would love to read your take on what happens when the boys are on an away game and you're home with the little lasso but then you wake up from a nightmare? i feel like the kid being like his father would make you fall even harder for your little family + sequel: Ted is present for a nightmare

Ted Lasso x Reader Wedding Day [2-part series] (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance/Fluff Tumblr request: Ted and reader's wedding day. Ted standing on one side of the door frame, holding her hand while she works through her nerves not about marrying him (she's never been more sure she wants to marry him) but more about accidentally tripping, or that her dress isn't nice enough, what is the press going to say + sequel: what about the angst of the roles being reversed?
Ted Lasso x Reader Missing/Wanted (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Angst/Romance Tumblr request: Can I request a Ted × Reader angsty fic where Ted and reader both have had an awful few days and they misdirect their anger towards each other, they both say a few things to each other which they really don't mean and one of them just storms out and then the other sort of spends the whole night finding them unsuccessfully....
Ted Lasso x Reader Baby it's Cold Outside (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Fluff Tumblr request: It has been super cold outside, so naturally I’ve been thinking about Ted warming Y/N up after they come in from outside (absolutely freezing). He seems like the kind of guy to have a lot of body warmth 🔥
Coach Beard x Trent Crimm Men of Mystery (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance Based on a Tumblr Drawing: Trent Crimm locks his keys in his car. Beard knows what to do about that.

T-----------------------------------------------
Ted Lasso x Reader Fightin' Words (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance Tumblr request: Sleeping with Other People inspired—ted punching someone to defend his love??? we need your take on that pretty please??? and they being the only one that gets him to take a step back??? so beard is like....wait...you're down bad, my friend.
Ted Lasso x Reader Medication (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Hurt/Comfort Tumblr request: I was hoping you might write a blurb about Ted finding out that his partner is medicated when she stays with him the first time and just not wanting her to feel bad about having to take medication for her mental health
Ted Lasso x Reader The Breakup (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Angst/Romance Tumblr request: i'm in desperate need of you writing a blurb where the reader panics over the fact they are sure ted is about to break up with them (he is not) and he calms them down and its sweet and loving and he stays. name your price, my friend.
Ted Lasso x Reader Sick Fic (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Light Hurt Comfort Tumblr request: Ted helping his partner feel better when they're sick.
Ted Lasso x Reader Too Needy (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Angst/Romance Tumblr request: Ted's partner is worried about being too needy for him, which is a feeling Ted understands all too well

Ted Lasso x Reader Faint of Heart (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Hurt/Comfort Tumblr request: I had a fainting spell at work today and it was scary because people helped but then I was alone...I was wondering if you could write for Ted or Jason when the reader fainted at work in front of him?

Ted Lasso x Reader Camping Codependency (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Fluff Tumblr request: just imagined ted and reader taking the Richmond team on a team-building adventure (camping). Ted and reader share a tent, but obviously have to be suuuuuuuuper quiet while they get down to it…
Ted Lasso x Reader High for Hallmark (Tumblr Only because its so short) - Romance Tumblr Request: Just finished episode 2 & I just know that Jason loves hallmark movies just like Theodore is it too much to smoke a bit and chill on the couch watching cheesy Christmas rom coms nowhere near Christmas with him?
M----------------------------------------------
Ted Lasso x Rebecca The Oh Moment [2-part series] (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance/Light Smut Based on this tumblr post: the "oh. oh." moment in fan fic but instead of a character realizing they're in love it's them discovering they have a specific kink at the worst possible moment. Part 1 has Rebecca taking part in a team tradition, and Part 2 Ted experiences a dinner gone wrong...or right?
Ted Lasso x Reader Crushin' (on) You (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance/Light Smut Tumblr Request: Thinking about ted tying me up 😶 or ted laying on top of me. His slutty forearms and his strong thighs. Sigh. horny ted thoughts
Ted Lasso x Reader Touch Tank (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance/Light Smut Tumblr Request: would you consider writing a ted/reader fic where an extremely touch-starved reader is fascinated with ted's hands and playfully baits him into tickling them? those hands teasing and kneading in search of the best ticklish spots

Ted Lasso x Reader Vacation Bae (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Romance/Light Smut Tumblr Request: obsessed with thinking about how ted would react to seeing y/n in more revealing clothes for the first time; short shorts, a crop top, a bikini, maybe some lingerie that y/n picked out just for him
E----------------------------------------------
Ted Lasso x Reader Getting Ready [4-part series] (Tumblr Drabbles Series on ao3) - Smut Tumblr request: Imagine how sweet and spicy getting ready for an event with Ted could be! + sequel: Dom Jason × Sub reader smut would be so hot if you're comfortable with that and then Jason being so adorably cute and caring during the aftercare + triology: D/S dynamics outside of the bedroom + Bonus chapter 4 I forgot about lol

when ted shakes the snowglobe and thinks of the people he's leaving behind, the first person he thinks of is trent
and it's not just that he's thinking about trent; he's thinking about the love letter trent wrote him, how ted loves it (and draws a moustached smile to make trent smile), but how ted can't possibly accept it [it being all about him]. and yet he sees trent in golden, sunflower, home.
literally SO fucking ill about this, thank you, anon.
i truly believe if dottie hadn't manipulated/triggered ted like she did the episode beforehand, something would have become of ted and trent. it's right there in what you described! there's always been this silently loud, gravitational pull between them.
trent is who ted thinks of first when he thinks of richmond, when he pours celebratory shots after victories, when he looks across a locker room while making a point in a speech.
ted is who trent thinks of first when he thinks of richmond, when he goes to follow his bliss, when he wants to live his life authentically.
it's truly bizarre and so so sad to see ted not be able to accept his positive role in other's lives. it's easier for him to lean into the role of Fixer with henry, to self-blame, to only view the negative role he (falsely!) believes he plays in his son's life. he cannot handle even the slightest notion of merging both aspects of his two separate lives (remember colin's ache? the concept could apply here too) because to do that requires acceptance of the self.
which! trent mentioned in the last diamond dogs meeting that it's not about change so much as acceptance of your past. ted was getting better through the season and he was starting to accept his past, until dottie steamrolled in during a vulnerable moment and fucking threw it back in his face. "your son misses you." + "fuck you."
every action ted has done in the series has been to not wind up like his father. he consciously chose to be kind and forgiving and optimistic when it would have been easier (and at times healthier) to lean into anger and hurt. his father's suicide has been the through-line this entire time. a ghost which haunts ted's worldview.
and dottie, unfortunately, played a major role in why ted only ever feels like he is loved/valued when something is needed from him. when he has to fix or care for or coach either someone or something. by dottie not working on herself, by not getting them both help after ted's dad's suicide, by not talking about it, she effectively Parentified a teenager and shut down communication at the same time. onscreen she only ever gives a shit about ted when she wants something. it's all her. her insecurities/guilt about how she parented ted become a knife wielded against him for how he untraditionally chooses to parent henry and for how he chooses to live his life.
dottie saw how much healthier ted is in richmond and could not see outside herself for more than two seconds to recognize it as a good thing. she instead felt threatened enough to effectively trigger ted into a catatonic low. to get him away from a support system and therapist who truly love him in a way she never could or can. to isolate him. nothing puts the fear of god into an abuser quite like a support system their victim can turn to. (why do you think rupert isolated rebecca?)
and trent? trent was a part of that support system. a divorced, gay man who wrote hundreds of pages about The Lasso Way, who's main inspiration was ted, who loved ted for all his flaws, who pushed ted with hard questions, who got all his references, who quit his whole career over ted, who at the end of the day just wanted ted to laugh with and like this book-love-letter he wrote for him. just wanted ted to recognize and accept that Coach Ted Lasso From America is a good man.
but ted? freshly triggered, catatonic depressive ted? cannot accept this reality. because to do so would mean acknowledgement of the silently loud, gravitational pull they have towards each other, and what that means, and how happy that has made him feel, and how trent would openly love him unconditionally if ted just allowed it. nothing to fix, nothing to take care of.
it goes against all this fucked conditioning ted's grown up with, where he's been triggered back to. beyond the role of Fixer, beyond his inability to accept help/love, beyond even his conditioned sexuality. it directly challenges the reality of a lonely kid who was often forgotten about by his parents in places. a lonely kid who other kids often underestimated and didn't care to ask questions about, to get to know. at sixteen, that same lonely kid walked in on his father's suicide and then had to walk through the grief alone, traumatized out his mind with no healthy way of expressing it. all the while wondering if he was to blame.
that is who ted regressed back into.
and it isn't until ted is back in that familiar box that he dares dream about trent again. because hey, that's all it was between them, right? a nice fantasy. it wasn't a reality. nah, not a chance. because In Real Life Ted Lasso Does Not Deserve That Level Of Support Or Love.

god I love that "he sounds like a cool guy" and both their smiles with ted and trent's dad making the same joke it's just......trent's vibes of I want to introduce this man to my parents and everyone I know they'd love him so much I'm so in love with him. it's one of those lines that just has you speedrunning the relationship in your head. "he sounds like a cool guy" "so the caribbean or the maldives for our honeymoon?"
This is so very accurate! He's like "Yup that's the one, I think we'll have a spring wedding." And he never looked back.
I think about that scene a lot, like the whole scene and I can't get over how much it feels like a new beginning for the couple in a rom-com, if you know what I mean.
We've just had the inevitable betrayal of trust which breaks the couple apart, separates them (Trent's article)
The one who was betrayed is hurt but they still clearly care about the other person (Ted goes from being happy when he sees that Trent is texting him to sad. But then he still defends Trent when Keeley calls him a dick)
One of them realises that they miss the other one (Ted stops talking and is clearly upset that Trent isn't there, and confirms that he was worried that Trent had been in an accident)
Tumblr media
The person who did the betrayal (Trent) makes a grand gesture (gets himself fired, like, he doesn't just quit, he makes sure that he's fired) and goes to find their love interest to tell them (he stands waiting for Ted outside the club). The love interest is surprised by the grand gesture (see below)
Tumblr media
They start to patch things up, finding their way back to each other (Ted initiates the "Trent Crimm. Independent" joke and Trent finishes it, Ted has previously repeatedly joked with Trent in the press room, especially about Trent's "Trent Crimm, The Independent" thing, it's their thing)
Tumblr media
They ignite the hope that they'll get back together one day (Ted says that he hopes their paths will cross again soon, Trent agrees and says that he loves Ted their chats, which is a callback to a previous milestone in their relationship)
Tumblr media
One of them tries to take things further, for them to get closer again (Trent offers Ted a ride) but the hurt person isn't quite ready yet (Ted declines, but says he appreciates the offer)
One of them isn't ready for the other person to leave yet, so they call them back (Trent stops Ted and makes him turn around by saying his name and then wishing him good luck next season)
One of them then watches as the other person leaves (Trent looks at Ted even after Ted has turned his back to him and has started walking away)
Tumblr media
And to put the com in rom-com, one of them does something silly/stupid because of their love for the other character (Trent misses the door handle to his car because he's still looking at Ted and then he realises that he's locked the keys in his car when he got out to look cool while waiting for Ted)
And don't get me started on season three, which is of course the continuation of their rom-com. Them being happy and excited to see each other again after they've spent time apart, Ted showing Trent that he's ready to let him back in properly by allowing him to write the book about the team. Ted "defending" Trent against Roy, Trent running after Ted to excitedly tell him that he believes in his tactic and so on.
So, um, this answer got away from me. Sorry about that. I just have a lot of feelings about this scene...

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @beckstraordinary
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
9 completed works, some of them multichapter but nothing tooo long. one series.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
More than my actual thesis... that i should have been writing... for my actual work... (almost 85k)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Ted Lasso and Tedpendent specifically! But I am a multishipper, so you'll find some TrentBeard in there and some TrentRoy too.
I'd love to write for Midnight Mass but I'm scared of how to write all the religious talk. I thought about writing for OFMD and BBC Ghosts but sort of didn't find the inspiration. There's something about TedTrent that just has that sort of grip on my brain I guess!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
So... Michelle’s Bisexual Bureau of Investigation seems to be the most liked. I mean, it's basically about Trent being a gay disaster on social media so I think many of us out there can relate (it's actually largely based on something I personally did). It was fun to write and I can sort of see why it's a fun read.
Second, third and fourth place we have 🪄The Smut Fics🪄. It's all private on ao3, so you'll need a profile to access them cause, well.
Fifth place we have Bicycle Day Surprisingly Not About Cycling, which is about divorced dads with a mutual crush doing LSD together. 😇 It was so hard to write but I had one (1) idea and had to stick with it!! Also it was for a challenge so I was extra determined to get it out of my system.
Ironically (in the Alanis sense of the term) some of my personal favourites have the least kudos.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I love recieving comments and I wanna let people know I really appreciate them. Also, I love commenting on fics and treat the comment section on ao3 as a sort of community-building place. People have been so nice and lovely in the comment sections, it's amazing, really.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
The ending is not angsty, cause I like to give some happiness to my fictional babes, but this one is sort of angsty and has the least explicit happy ending: Can you still edit a written book?. It's about Beard and Trent being sad and miserable about Ted leaving and hooking up about it. I also wrote a short sequel here: A different pace. This is a wip series and it's the most emo / earnest i got with fic writing. I don't mind it tho!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Inside of me there are two wolves. One wants to make a sex joke out of the question and thus recommending smut, the other wants to link a wholesome future fic written from the Crimmlet's pov. The duality of humankind.
All of my fics have happy endings, so I'll re-interpret the question and I'll link A very special Crimmlet Diary entry for Coming Out day because it has a glimpse on a very cute and happy family future for Ted and Trent together.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Only from my own brain when I feel down about my writing! 🙃
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
YES. I. DO.
More open than the jar of peanut butter on my kitchen counter is a multi-chapter multishipping madness of a fic I thought about orphaning many times and which I keep as a testament of my own progress in writing fics. I am still grateful for having had some help with beta-reading it but it's just such a mess and very self-indulgent. There's some fun sexy parts including potentially problematic dirty talk, public sex, platonically holding your hands with your bff while you both get head... Ops.
I also wrote an alternative chapter for it which became a one shot, called Cowboys are secretly frequently fond of each other, which is about Trent getting horny over Ted singing karaoke.
But I think the only one I really like it's You’re an angel I’m a dog (Or you're a dog and I'm your man). It's a nasty (you've been warned!) PWP pup play fic. I just think those men deserve to be freaks once in a while. I debated over publishing this as anon but my lack of shame won.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No... but I do think Trent deserves boyfriends from every corner of the multiverse.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No, don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I'd love to. My DMs are open!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
💙Ted and Trent💙. Truly a perfect ship. My losers. I love them.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Midnight Mass AU that lives rent free in my head and that most likely will never see the light of day (...wink wink, pun intended).
16. What are your writing strengths?
I don't know! I think I can be quite funny. And sometimes poetic, even accidentally so, in the way non-native speakers sometimes can be, using language in a different way. I think I can also write pining quite well (gay water sign talent).
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I hate, HATE, writing dialogue. I am terrified of it. I am afraid it will sound fake or artificial. I also feel insecure about English not being my first language and it showing in fics, in them sounding weird somehow. Not seeing mistakes etc. But I also lack the impulse control needed to wait for fics to be beat read and I sometimes just post the second is done. Which. Not ideal.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
The bane of my existence. Hell on earth. Help. (I willfully misinterpret this question and answer implying that all dialogue is in another language for me).
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Somewhere, on EFP (Italian fanfic site) there are some original works of mine from AGES AGO, and even (if memory doesn't fail me) some Harry Potter wips that I hope are long gone, since fuck that TERF and her work.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Probably the last one I wrote for the AFC Richmond discord server bingo challenge. To love flowing in different directions. it's about queer chosen family and love. It has puns about sex toys, drunken confessions, fantastic wing man action, lots of mutual pining. It was fun to write!
No pressure tags: @bookqueen101 @leeofthestone @thistableforone @rootingfordorks @crimmcakes @carduelisfinch @tinylilemrys @jamiepoptart

Last thing I want to talk about before the finale while I’m out here on my bullshit is vanilla vodka. I’m aware of how ridiculous that probably sounds but I couldn’t help but notice that, while alcohol comes up many times throughout the series, vanilla vodka specifically only is shown/mentioned twice, which makes me raise an eyebrow a bit. This is mainly because it’s also the only time they’ve specified a flavor of flavored alcohol, which does make it stand out a bit.
The first time vanilla vodka comes up is in s1 e3 in the middle of the reading of Trent’s article when that narration pauses for a moment to show Roy confronting Jamie about Nate as a way of demonstrating the effects of Ted’s coaching style that Trent was in the middle of talking about. [For the record, the line is: “His coaching style is subtle — it never hits you over the head — slowly growing until you can no longer ignore its presence.”] In the part with Roy going off on Jamie, he takes a sip of Jamie’s drink and makes the comment of “Vanilla vodka? Such a child,” before leaving. The second and only other time vanilla vodka is specifically featured like that is in the Amsterdam episode when Trent, after talking with Colin, goes out clubbing with him and Colin orders vanilla vodka from the bar, which Trent tries and doesn’t like.
Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact that the second time this comes up is with those two at that point in that episode, I would’ve just ignored this. However, something about having Trent come out to Colin and them bonding over being gay with Trent becoming like a mentor to him and then, coming off of that, having them go out and have a positive experience together with Colin comfortably being himself and all of that then has the aforementioned vanilla vodka thrown in, like an endcap to that whole thing, feels like a deliberate callback to s1 e3. This could serve to point out that Jamie and Roy are in fact super gay for each other but, like Colin, they aren’t comfortable acknowledging that yet and need a nudge like Colin got from Trent or perhaps it could be about Trent himself, the one common denominator between those two scenes.
If it is supposed to be indicating something about Trent, then I feel like whatever it’s pointing at would have to also feature Ted, since that’s who he was talking about in the first scene. So then, if these two scenes are linked and are meant to point to something involving both Ted and Trent, then I feel like the natural conclusion is that it’s meant to indicate that Trent isn’t just into men, he’s specifically interested in Ted. The other thing is that we are still talking about vanilla vodka as a symbol here, and I think it’s important to acknowledge that vanilla comes from a type of orchid, like saffron, and if you look up the meaning of orchids in flower language, they represent love, beauty, fertility, and virility. As far as a symbol in media to represent attraction, I’d say that’s pretty damn solid. Also, maybe this is a reach, but I do think it’s worth noting that it’s vanilla vodka, not any of the other million other vanilla flavored things out there, and that alcohol historically has been referred to as ‘spirits.’ If we go with this combination of symbolic meaning, then this vanilla vodka could actually be representative of a spirit filled with love and admiration of something beautiful.
The last thing I want to talk about with this ridiculous post is how Trent views Ted at both of those points in the season. In s1 e3, he went in skeptical and then spent a whole day with Ted, which changed his mind and gave him a far kinder view of the other man than anyone thought he would have. The article he writes is still kind of critical, but the entire second half is basically praising and expressing wonder at Ted. What we get in that episode is Trent Crimm being curious about and inspired by Ted and we see as some change is sparked, like this is the very beginning of the massive development we see from here out. In comparison, s3 e6 is basically showing sort of the end result of all that change Trent went through that was initially sparked by Ted. We see Trent being nothing but kind, helpful, and understanding, showing absolutely no interest in using anything at all from that episode in his writing even though that’s officially why he’s there, and it’s because of Ted. I think the vanilla vodka really serves most to mark the start and end of Trent’s individual character arc, which entirely centers around Ted, and perhaps also indicate that, while Trent himself has completed his own arc, there might be more to come regarding his relationship with Ted. And yeah, I know how wild that sounds lmao

I need to re-watch the scene for exact details, but I've been thinking all day about Nate's failed Diamond Dogs attempt and why it crashed and burned so hard. I mean, the obvious takeaway is that there is none of the love and support from which to build that kind of group at West Ham. As Beard lays out for Trent in the same episode, they're laying bare their innermost thoughts, feelings, and experiences. If you don't trust the people in the room (which Nate has no reason to yet - it strikes me that they're left in this awkward silence while waiting to officially begin, rather than the casual camaraderie we see in Ted's office) and if there's no respect (which there isn't, particularly between Rupert and Nate: Nate is catching on to all of Rupert's manipulations - what name to call him, cheating with his secretary, etc. - and Rupert just straight up refuses to see him as a person) then of course the core foundation of what the group is built on will crumble.
However, beyond that I also think intention is important too. The original Diamond Dogs forms because Ted needs advice about sleeping with Sassy. He makes himself vulnerable to the very group he's forming as a way of modeling what the Diamond Dogs are all about. In contrast, Nate's first meeting feels more like an excuse to brag. Yes, he does have a similar problem to unpack, namely the question of how he should navigate this relationship, but that felt secondary to me, with the excuse to tell these top dog (pardon the pun) men that he's finally landed a maybe girlfriend forefronting his motivations. Remember, Rupert was meant to be in the room and Nate makes it clear that this meeting is not really about the group helping each other, it's about them paying attention to his partial success/continued worries. The fact that the other guy (I don't even know his name, which speaks to the lack of bonds in this room) wants to talk about taking care of his ailing parents but Nate shuts him down kinda says it all. Compare that to Beard graciously telling Ted that he has the floor and then, once Ted is done, he asks if anyone else has a problem to unpack, including Roy. Nate's Diamond Dogs, beyond lacking the relationships necessary to work in the first place, feels like it's built on his own, stubborn self-interest; it was an attempted replacement for Rupert/formerly the social media/formerly Ted. What outside force is building up my self-confidence nowadays, especially when Richmond is on a winning streak? Nothing except a maybe girlfriend! Let's try to create a new source of validation.
Nate has undoubtedly improved a great deal throughout this season. I actually thought at first that he was improving too quickly and with, to my mind, no narrative explanation. It was only when I saw other fans pointing out the power of getting distance from those who have enacted real and perceived harm (AKA the club and Ted) that Nate's kinda-offscreen growth made a bit more sense to me. However, now I'm actually glad to see him failing in these ways. Trying to talk to Ted after the game, spotting Rupert's manipulation, fluff family time that makes no mention of his father's expectations, a perfect end to his terrible date, not caring that his box got crushed, not spitting in the mirror... it felt like the show was absolutely speed-running Nate's redemption arc because it's the last season, rather than allowing him to organically struggle with these issues and face on-screen events that act as a catalyst for his growth. To say nothing of how the show argues very strongly that growth has to be modeled/supported for an extended period of time... and Nate is without both this season, yet still seems to 'magically' be improving. Given where we left him, I kinda feel like I'm watching an alcoholic suddenly overcome their addiction while working in a brewery. Yeah, of course that's possible... but I very much expected this to happen in a different environment, or at least with far, FAR more support. So now, despite only having three episodes left, I'm reassured by the backslide. Nate refuses to wave to Ted in front of the crowd. He's still trying to suck up to Rupert, both over text and in person. He forms a group that, although oh-so-obviously modeled after Ted's, is really just a Nate the Great show. It feels like the show remembers that he has too much to work on to 'fix' it all with a girlfriend storyline. Nate is a very complicated character who needs a great deal of screen-time to come back from where we left him last season; frankly, more screen-time than he can feasibly get with just a few episodes left and a cast this large. Despite the potential pitfalls of that though, I think it's good that the season is reintroducing some of that complexity. Nate isn't just on a winning streak of his own with soft looks cast towards Richmond photos and an adoring girl in his bed. That need for external validation is still very much there and he's never going to fully come into himself until he realizes what the himbo boys did this season: Belief isn't a sign up on the wall, or a kind coach, or a girlfriend, or a Diamond Dogs group. Those all help support you, yes, but ultimately it has to come from within.

(takes place after Chapter Five)
Trent replayed the wink over and over as he went through the motions to follow the team to the game. And he'd been flirty towards Ted? It was just so hard not to be when the man was being so proudly queer and loving, using his position to take on homophobia in the Premier League.
Trent reminded himself to keep a professional distance, here at work. When he got home he could think about his feelings for Ted Lasso. Right now, there was a football match to watch, and he was sure that the post match interviews would touch on the Pride Night announcement.
After the match, Trent high-fived and secret-handshaked the players he had built rapport with. He gave Colin a fist bump and commented 'good game.' When a few players got asked about Pride Night, he was thrilled to hear their answers -- all supportive, all proud of this effort, with some palpable excitement. Jamie was interviewed last, and Trent remembered Ted's fierce defense of him just a few days prior. He leaned against the wall to watch.
The reporter tried to suggest that the team should just focus on football. Jamie shot that down as a way to just ignore problems in the world. He brashly told the reporter that he was a big ally, and thought there should be a place in the League for queer players. Queer people add value to the world, he said, and so they definitely add value to a football team.
Trent was glad he had the wall holding him up. He knew it wasn't fair to give Ted credit for all of Jamie's growth over the last three years, but he was surely partially responsible. Trent whipped out his notebook, shoved his glasses on his face, and started writing furiously. After all, this was a continuation of Ted's focus on his players' growth as people, and as a group. While not a football strategy per se, this was Ted's most unique management tactic -- and it was working! Men he would never have predicted to be staunch allies standing up in the fight against oppression. Trent's heart flipped over when he noticed Ted watching Jamie from the other end of the hall, pride clear on his face.
...
Trent went home, thanked the babysitter, and kissed his sleeping daughter on the forehead. He settled into an arm chair with a bottle of beer, his personal journal, and an aim to figure out what to do about Ted Lasso. He wasn't in denial, by a long shot; he knew he cared for Ted. He would date him in a heartbeat, if the circumstances were different. Warmth radiated through his chest when he thought about building a relationship with Ted.
But he was writing a book about Ted's football club and what he'd privately come to think of as The Lasso Way. His credibility as a journalist was already on thin ice, especially where Ted was concerned. It had been obvious at the time that he should tell Ted who'd leaked his personal health information to the press; frankly, he still felt an unease about having written the article in the first place. It felt deeply unethical. And you didn't want to hurt Ted, a voice reminded him.
Trent sighed, and put pen to paper. What to do about inappropriate, no, he struck that out. There was nothing inappropriate about his feelings for Ted. They were both adults, and they were attracted to each other. They had engaged in some inappropriate behavior in the workplace, though it was a grey area since Trent didn't actually work for AFC Richmond... At any rate, the problem wasn't actually having the feelings, but being in constant proximity to the object of his affection and knowing nothing could happen between them.
What to do about inconvenient feelings for Ted Lasso:
1. run away (avoid him)
2. ask him out (for whenever I'm done writing this bloody book, I guess)
3. date someone else?
4. secret hookups (dangerous)
5. pine forever
Trent scowled down at his notebook. None of these were great options. He thought about what he'd heard Ted and Keeley saying, about Ted's goal of getting over his crush. That let numbers 2 and 4 out. Trent didn't think he had the time or energy for number three right now. And he could hardly start avoiding him right as they'd started becoming friends.
Pining it is, Trent thought with a sigh. He ran both hands through his hair, mussing it terribly. Fuck.

I have not done a fic rec post in a while so here are some faves I have been reading lately. 🎉
Restoration Ecology - The REmix (Baz’s version) WIP, currently 29k, Rated E by @royalasstronaut
Y’all. Y’ALL. If you loved Restoration Ecology by @captain-aralias and are as obsessed with it as I am, then you are going to FLIP for this remix that holds pretty close to the original plot, but shows it all through Baz’s POV. The events of each chapter are roughly the same, with a few new off camera scenes, and the dialogue is the same, but the author adds SO MUCH just by fleshing out how Baz perceives everything and all he is going through (but keeping under wraps from Simon). We’re four chapters in and it’s updating almost daily so don’t miss out!
Good morning, good night, good morning WIP, currently 4k, Rated E by @chen-chen-chen-again-chen
Strangers to lovers story in which Baz and Simon have both been kidnapped, stripped naked (except for a collar around the neck chaining them to the wall) and put in a dark cell together. If that premise alone doesn’t get you, let me tell you that Baz hasn’t fed in a few days and Simon is more than happy to help this strange vampire. (Much to Baz’s horror.) The banter is excellent and Baz’s spiraling is top notch. I can’t wait to see where this story goes!
Believe Complete, 3k, Rated T by @prettygoododds
Ted Lasso AU! For anyone who thinks Baz would make a sexy Trent Crimm, this fic is for you! And even if you’ve never seen Ted Lasso, just read it. Cute football coach/sports writer get together that stands alone just as well if you haven’t seen the show. This was written for COC, but I just got around to reading it the other day and I adored it!
Mishaps on Zoom, Complete, 10k, Rated E by @eelwinks (LakeWitch)
Sexy Zoom misunderstandings lead to two coworkers meeting up and navigating a coffee friend date turned real date in this pandemic story. Super funny, sweet and sexy. Don’t we all love a good LakeWitch fic? If you missed this one, go check it out!
More Than Friends, WIP, Currently 9k, Rated E by @fatalfangirl
Friends with benefits, non-magical AU, and they were roommates. If you are not reading this what are you even doing with your life? Seriously, this fic is SO SEXY. Slutty Simon just wants to give his sexually frustrated friend a hand. What could possibly go wrong? We’ve got mutual pining, miscommunications, and sex galore. This fic is funny, tender, and so hot!
Scenes Before Sleeping, Series of 8 fics, 11k, mostly Rated M, by @tea-brigade
I know, I know, sometimes I miss the boat and don’t get around to reading something until a year later after it’s been recc’ed 20 times but I finally read these and they are so good! As everyone promised they would be! I kept this on the list for this exact reason, because I know there are other like me with a mile long tbr list and sometimes seeing a title come round again at the right time gives you a chance to get to it. This series is so sexy, tender and sweet. Watching these two take care of each other over and over again (and having lots of sex) is so delicious.
For a bonus, if you’ve read this far you can also check out my two WIPs, How to Avoid a Scandal and Depth of Reason, both of which updated this week!

u dragged me into colinjamie hell, so I share this with u
team shenanigans ft. colinjamie - maybe they sneaking around (and are awful at it) or the team knows. no angst, just them
• cuddling during movie nights and being so disgustingly cute, the team makes them sit apart from each other
• playing games (had lasertag in my mind) and are on opposed teams but do the good whole 'seducing your enemy to get to win'
• dedicating goals to each other - somebody accidentally said it during an interview but it just got them bromance points
• touching each other every second. the team is happy for them but a bit annoyed. it could be because they are insatiable/in love BUT it could also be reassurance/ being each other safe places
• babysitting Phoebe/Nora/the Higgins' boys/Henry (or all?) and calling each other because they are both hot messes (or scared to be bad at it because they had shitty parents and shitty childhoods)
omg!!!
first, i cant believe anything ive said has made an impact, but i am so so so glad it did??? (also curious about what exactly it was) colinjamie needs more love, im so glad we have you here
second, all these are genius and i am in love with every single one of them okay i have SO many thoughts, i nearly lost this ask twice trying to type them all out
NO ANGST JUST THEM. YES. GIVE THE BOYS SOME FLUFF PIECES THEY DESERVE IT
babysitting Phoebe/Nora/the Higgins' boys/Henry (or all?) and calling each other because they are both hot messes (or scared to be bad at it because they had shitty parents and shitty childhoods)
okay so tHIS ONE. I JUST. so i have a little sister, who, a few years ago, had an obsession with two things. disney channel original movies, and sofiia carson. this meant i have been exposed to all three descendants movies yes, but what it ALSO means is that i have been exposed to the "adventures in babysitting" reboot they had.
which means now i am thinking about colin babysitting the Higgins' boys and Nora, while Jamie is babysitting Henry and Phoebe. on the same night. and of course shenanigans happen, one of the kids has snuck out, one of the higgins' boys has a really important science project, another is experiencing his first heart break, jamie thinks he's taught henry some cuss words, they are both MESSES.
does it end up in frantic calls and impromptu trip out to find the one kid who snuck out? does that result in hiding from keeley/roy and the higgins' parents on their date night? do they run into trent crimm and his daughter at some point? yes. all that and MORE.
and in true "adventures in babysitting" style, when they get back to the higgins' house the place is a mess bc the washing machine was running, the dog tracked mud in the house and destroyed the science project, and colinjamie + the kids have to do a rush cleanup job. and then jamie has to sneak his kids back to his place bc ted and roykeeley are gonna be back SOON.
dedicating goals to each other - somebody accidentally said it during an interview but it just got them bromance points
oh anon i LOVE this. buzzfeed has an article on best sports friendships and colinjamie are top five because of this.
also. i want to say that this bleeds over into other moments too. colin has to toss smth in the trash but he's dead tired and doesnt want to get up off the bench, and jamie takes it from him, says "this is for you" and throws it from halfway across the room.
he misses.
richard says jamie should stick to football.
jamie is disgruntled bc that was a sucky throw and NOT worthy of colin.. walks over picks it up, walks BACK, and says "THIS one is for you."
misses again.
"no THIS one is for you"
miss.
colin at least stays in the locker room until jamie finally makes it.
playing games (had lasertag in my mind) and are on opposed teams but do the good whole 'seducing your enemy to get to win'
oh they ABSOLUTELY do this for laser tag, they ABSOLUTELY do the "seduce ur enemy to win" thing. the other boys are TIRED of it.
the real last straw for them is when they FINALLY have the "away game pillow fight" ted suggests and they start the "seduce your enemy to win" tactic during the pillow fight too.
cuddling during movie nights and being so disgustingly cute, the team makes them sit apart from each other
this is WHY the team went for the pillow fights
touching each other every second. the team is happy for them but a bit annoyed. it could be because they are insatiable/in love BUT it could also be reassurance/ being each other safe places
YES YES YES YES YES YES
both. both is good. just, ALWAYS touching. which, they already do a lot, so like when they get together, YEESH the rest of the team is TIRED

Ted Lasso Season 3 Roy and Keeley thoughts
This is hardly an original observation, considering how un-subtle it was, but the conversation in episode 2 about Roy leaving Chelsea is also about Keeley. Roy says everyone was shocked when he left Chelsea. Everyone was also shocked by the breakup, and even more shocked that Roy broke up with Keeley. Roy left Chelsea because he could tell he wasn't keeping up anymore, and he wanted to walk away before things got worse. We saw at the end of season 2 that Roy felt out of step with Keeley as her business took off and she needed more time to focus on that. The "we're busy" reasoning is true. Keeley is busier than she's ever been and Roy is busier too since Nate left and obviously nervous about his ability to fill that role as a strategic coach. Taking a break, which is apparently what Keeley wanted to do, is actually a good solution. Once they've both settled into their roles and recalibrated their work-life balance, they'd have more time for each other. But Roy insisted on breaking up, and I think that's where "it's better to quit than get fired" comes in. I think Roy felt a breakup was inevitable eventually, and he'd rather break up with Keeley than let her break his heart later.
I suspect this is leading to them getting back together at the end of the season, because he says he might be sorry he left Chelsea. Just to drive the parallel home, Phoebe questions if he made the right choice by leaving Keeley. And when he does go back there in the episode, he's greeted with love they still have for him. I suspect Roy is going to confront his insecurities about being good enough and keeping up while aging as part of his broader emotional arc (hanging onto Trent's review for decades and finding peace with him points that way too). It could end with Roy and Keeley staying amicably broken up and make the "sometimes life happens" point--that would be consistent with the show and Ted does validate Roy's Chelsea logic a little bit--but I think it's much less likely.

I'm OBSESSED with how the themes of forgiveness, grace, and second chances were handled in Ted Lasso. There were so many different examples, handled in different ways!
*We have the first and most obvious: the immediate and willing forgiveness of Ted for Rebecca. Sometimes it is so clear to you how much someone was hurting, in ways you deeply understand. Sometimes it's not even a question of whether or not you forgive someone.
(*this is then later mirrored with Roy's forgiveness for Trent; Roy understands Trent, and for as long as he held onto the anger, the minute Trent properly and genuinely apologized, he forgave, let it go, and cultivated a friendship. A softhearted footballer who uses anger as a shield; an openly gay sports journo who uses harsh truth as a defensive weapon? Yeah, they get each other just as well as Ted and Rebecca get each other, honestly)
We have the longer, hard-won forgiveness of Sam (and everyone) for Jamie. Because sometimes you can see someone getting better, making the choice, but they hurt so much and for so long that it takes a minute. It takes some anger on your part. It takes some hard work and maybe a few grand gestures on their part.
We have the repeated, reluctant forgiveness of Roy to Jamie. Because sometimes you see who you used to be in this person, and you HATE it, and you don't want to forgive it because you resent both them and the younger you inside of them-- but you also understand. You also see the scared kid behind it, and the goodness that wants to come out. So you forgive anyway, even if you're a little mad about it.
We have the slow, painful, still-in-progress forgiveness of Ted to his father. To a father who due to his own actions can't earn it, can't apologize, can't ever choose the better path. But Ted knows the hate isn't helping him anymore, maybe never was, even though the feelings were valid. And it's hard, because Ted sees what he could be in his father's actions, too. He sees his worst fears for himself in his father's suicide. And that's maybe why the forgiveness is even more important. So he's trying.
We have the slow forgiveness of Jamie for his father, who did much worse things in life than Ted's, but who is actually around to make the right choice and try to be better. Who got sober, got kinder, and made the same choice Jamie has been making-- be better. Jamie had a right to be angry, and for a while it helped him. But when the anger stopped helping him, he knew it was time to let it go. That won't be an immediate process. But I think it will be worth it.
We have the endless, little but still meaningful forgivenesses between Roy and Keeley, who are the closest to an ideal couple I've ever seen, but who are human and hurting and still hurt each other as a result.
We have Beard's forgiveness of Nate; painful, at first reluctant, but then wholehearted and passionate. Because Beard of all people has experienced the immediate, unquestioning grace of Ted, given when Beard least deserved it and most needed it. No he'll grant it forward, to someone who least deserves it but most needs it.
And we have the lack of forgiveness of Rebecca for Rupert. Not because she is less kind, but because someone has to choose to be better, and Rupert never does, and may not ever. Everyone deserves kindness and love, but you are never obligated to be the one who gives it to someone who consistently hurts you. Don't exhaust yourself reaching out over and over to someone who won't choose to change. They have to make that choice themselves, sometimes.
And there's more! Ted's forgiveness for Michelle, who wasn't at fault but who still hurt him deeply! Rebecca and Leslie's forgivenesses for each other, when BOTH were at fault, and both saw the good in each other still! Will and Nate! Nate and Colin! Ted and Trent!
I dunno, I'm just obsessed. It was all handled very well.

002: Ted and/or Jamie (or choose your own!)
I shall attempt both!
Ted
How I feel about this character:
I adore his optimism, even if it can be a detriment to himself at times. He went through something severely traumatic and, while we don't know a lot about his young adult life, he turned around and chose goodness and kindness despite all the hardship he went through. I think there is so much genuine love and care in his lil midwestern heart and it really does make me want to be more like that.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Rebecca, Sharon, and Trent are rotating around in my brain. They all have unique but interesting personal dynamics with Ted that I think are fun!
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Beard is my go-to, the two of them have clearly grown through a lot together and have been friends for what I'm assuming is decades. Although Higgins is definitely creeping up there in my platonic OTP for Ted.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I don't think he should go back to Kansas. I think that Henry should move to the UK, and possibly Michelle with him. Ted has had two really difficult events in his life that involved the breaking up of his family and I would hate to see him lose his AFC Richmond family like that too. I know it would be a big uproot in Henry's life but I think that he's young enough that he could still have a positive experience making friends as he grows up in London.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
I would like to know more about why Jamie's in Ted's panic attacks! I know we have a whole third season for it to be explored but I'm just so intensely curious about it.
my OTP:
TedBecca is pretty up there! I know that's a divisive answer but I really think that they have this deep, unknown understanding of each other that not even the other canon relationships have. I don't think they'll end up together, definitely an "in another life relationship".
my cross over ship:
I don't know why but I think Ted and Jessica Day from New Girl would get along absolutely swimmingly. They both have upbeat, optimistic personalities and are so extremely supportive of the people they love and care about.
a headcanon fact:
Honestly, I don't really have any headcanons about Ted. I think there are many surprises in store with him that I'm just enjoying seeing whatever the writers throw at us about him.
Jamie
How I feel about this character:
This is my sweet baby girl and I love him so much. I probably project myself onto his character more than any other character because of similarities I've had in my life with my own parents in parallel to his dad. Despite how talented he is and how far he's come, I don't think he's really had the chance to truly and authentically be himself.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Jamie is the character I ship with the most people 🤣.
Keeley, Dani, Isaac, Sam, Colin, and Jan. Just to name a couple LOL
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Roy or Ted tbh. I think they are such great mentor/father/brother figures for Jamie. I think they really push Jamie in different ways to grow. Roy makes Jamie look into himself and stand up for himself and Ted makes Jamie really learn to care about and lean on the people around him, among many other things for both.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I don't know if this one is super unpopular but it's felt unpopular to me, but I think that Jamie is an inexperienced person. This ranges from everything from relationships, feelings, sex, travel, and everything in between. I don't think he had a lot growing up and was left to his own devices a lot. I think he's really good at "faking it until he makes it" but ultimately when faced with the actual truth of things, he just doesn't seem experienced in life all that much.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
I really want to know more about Jamie's mom! She was brought up once really and that was in the 1x6 Two Aces episode. I would either like to meet her in season 3 or at least get a bigger picture idea of the impact she had on Jamie's life.
my OTP:
Probably Jamie x Dani, mostly 'cause that's the ship that I do talk to people about the most, so it's the one I have the most ideas about 🤣 but really if someone talks to me about another ship enough, that could probably make it's way up there 🤣
my cross over ship:
This is mostly a joke ship lol but Winston from New Girl. I love that Winston is a v confident person while living his best oddball life and it would be fun for him to bring more of that out in Jamie because I want Jamie to have his little oddball moments with no shame. But mostly I want the two of them rocking bird shirts together.
a headcanon fact:
I think Jamie really likes to feel like he's in complete control, in line with his "prick of all pricks" personality. But I think it stems from feeling like he had no control in the way he grew up or in his relationship with his dad. That his need to be in control comes from a deeply rooted place of insecurity, distrust, and scaredness.
send me a character(s) or ship(s)

I binge watched Our Flag Means Death yesterday and holy shit !!!!!! I'm in love !!!!! Everyone should watch this, I want at least 10 more seasons (or you know, however many it takes to get to a good conclusion)
- It is very much "Black Sails but a rom com" which already makes it a win in my book, with themes about stories and perception, piracy as this sort of very queer anti-imperialist space of freedom that also often really sucks. And it's hilarious but also there is a lot of depth and angst in there under the surface
- It's also What We Do In The Shadows with pirates instead of vampires in that there is a cast of mostly pathetic lunatics bumbling around and committing atrocities while also being surprisingly lovable, compelling and written with a lot of empathy. Also there is a slow burn romance btw a pathetic but caring little man who seems way out of his depth but has hidden reserves of badassery, and a scary badass with a dark past having a midlife crisis. But it feels less like an outright farce than WWDITS.
- Like i didn't expect it to be so actually romantic ? But there's a slow burn btw the two main (male) characters where they've both gotten dissatisfied with their lives and the roles they've had in life and so they really want what the other has to bring to their life and they're uniquely placed to understand each other and it's really sweet? And the show makes fun of both of them but not for having feelings (but definitely for being emotionally constipated lol). Now in most shows this would be haha broManCe "isn't it too funny that these guys are acting kinda gay hahaha because gay ppl are funny get it" material but in this one you have an actually confirmation that one of these dudes has been with a man before and when this guy shows up the other MC starts acting super jealous and they fight and the others actually call it a break up, also the crew textually says "you like each other" in a way that just doesn't work for friendship (the reviewers still calling it that are honestly delusional). There's tons of scenes that are straight of a fanfic - clothes swapping, practice sword fighting in the moonlight, sexy stabbing, loaded compliments, revealing secrets nobody else knows, longing looks, etc. It's great.
- Also it's just super queer in general, there are two crewmembers who have an open relationship and we see them kiss on screen, and then there's Jim, a really cool nonbinary character hellbent on revenge raised to be a killing machine by a scary nun (amazing) who gets addressed by they/them pronouns and also has an angsty thing with another crew member.
- Also it has lots of characters of color in rich, complex roles and some very blatant send up of racist cliches you can usually find in pirate stories (like the "savage island cannibals" thing). All the English present in the stories are buffoons (and the French are even worse it's very funny). There is a scene where two Black crewmates set some slaves free by basically inventing the Nigerian prince pyramid scheme scam. It's great.
- Taika Waititi delivers some amazing acting and he's also super hot walking around in slinky leather, which I think is totally on purpose as he's got guys swooning for him left and right, he's the hot girl of the show (also he's got 'cat energy' according to the creators) and that is just an incredible take on Blackbeard, scariest pirate of all time. Also he's created this bigger than life image of the terrifying pirate around him because he thinks he was doomed to be a monster but now he's tired of it and it's all very Captain Flint of him. Love it.
- Also saw someone call it "Ted Lasso with pirates" and that tracks, for the whole "lovable doofus who's way out of his depth tries to coach a team of losers and wins them over with his heart of gold even though it takes a while and he has no clue of what he's doing" (is Blackbeard Trent Crimm, with the long grey hair ? Lmao)
- The first two eps are a little slow, I would say it really gets its wings after Blackbeard shows up so it's worth sticking with even if the first two don't entirely convince you.
Watch it ! It's ridiculous and fun and sweet and probably everything you didn't know you needed👌👌👌

I’ve rewatched the episode Lavender (2x02) the other day and I realized that I think it’s an underrated episode when it comes to Rebecca’s characterization and arc this season.
I mean, first of all, we have that truly amazing moment where she learns that Ted initially tried to give her biscuits to Sharon.  I love how she’s not actually upset by this, (probably because she remembers Ted giving Trent’s daughter’s biscuits to Higgins.  Ted panics sometimes.) but that she IS offended by the fact that Sharon didn’t accept them.
And then of course, there was that truly amazing moment where she deliberately takes a bite from the biscuit that Sharon rejected as a means of establishing dominance.
Spectacular.  And probably the Ted/Rebecca moment that’s hardest to explain away if you don’t ship the characters.  Most of their other beats can work just as well for dear friends or a pseudo-sibling relationship, but that bite was staking a claim.  “The biscuits, and their baker, are MINE.”
But femdom kink aside*, there is something else that I truly love about the scene that I didn’t really appreciate until we made it to the end of season 2.
(* I’m just saying, it’s probably not a coincidence that the VERY NEXT EPISODE told us that Ted is VERY eager to please in bed.  :-D)
ANYWAY, when Ted and Rebecca discuss Sharon, they seem to be on the same page with regard to their disregard and discomfort with therapy.  They both are uncomfortable with the idea.  They both assert that it’s much better to rely on friends than a professional, and then they’re both shy away from admitting anything to each other.
But they’re not really on the same page.  Because Rebecca is being honest in this scene and Ted is not.
Rebecca tells Ted, and us, that she doesn’t see the point of a therapist because she can diagnose herself.  And while, obviously, a therapist provides more than just a diagnosis, the fact is, she’s not wrong::
“I thought being invulnerable would protect me, so I pushed people away for years, leading me directly to my greatest fear: Being alone. Big whoop.”
She’s oversimplifying things, of course.  She’s definitely not cutting herself enough slack, and it’s probably worth acknowledging that trauma both before and because of her abusive marriage is a major factor in how her negative defense mechanisms came about.  (All things that a therapist might be able to help with.)
But the key part of this is what she’s not saying.  Rebecca is not saying “I’m fine.”  She knows she’s not.  She admits she’s not.  And she’s working on it in her own way.
We don’t get a reciprocal statement from Ted, because Ted is not there yet.  Ted isn’t even in a place where he can admit to a problem at all, even with a woman who helped him through a panic attack.
They’re being tongue in cheek when they talk about how friends are there so you can “burden them with your issues and anxieties.”  But the thing is, Rebecca DOES lean on her friends when she needs to.  She confesses her insecurities and her fears to Keeley, to Sassy, to Higgins, even to Ted himself.   She lets them support her and she supports them in turn.
Ted doesn’t do that.  Even when his life has been absolutely and undeniably turned upside down in a VERY public way, he brushes away everyone’s concern with a joke or a smile.  He seems to be pathologically afraid of burdening anyone with anything.
And I think this disconnect is the real reason that Ted and Rebecca seem so separate this season.  We know that he still brings her the biscuits, but we don’t get to see it.  While he got to give her a truly wonderful show of support at her father’s funeral, he still deflects her expression of reciprocal concern.  He’s not meeting her halfway.
I know a lot of folk have wanted to know when Rebecca will start therapy.  And I think she would benefit from therapy, undoubtedly, but I don’t think she NEEDS it the way Ted does.
I don’t agree with the fan interpretation that Rebecca herself suffers from panic attacks.  I agree that she has obvious experience with them, but I think it’s always been as an observer rather than a fellow sufferer.  She recognizes the signs in other people and knows what to do.  But I don’t think she’s had the personal experience.  Her coping methods, which we’ve seen a lot of in season two, are very different.
(I think @exuberantocean suggested that Rebecca’s mother may have been the one to suffer panic attacks in a fanfic.  This seems very plausible to me given the many other parallels between Deborah and Ted.)
In the end, I think what the scene in Lavender shows us, and the season reinforces, is that while Rebecca is not “okay”, she’s also not hiding or denying it.  She’s facing her issues, and she’s going back out there.  She’s embracing her sexual freedom and exploring romantic possibilities that she’s denied herself so long.  She’s making mistakes, but that’s a part of life too..  She’s confiding in her friends and getting the support that she needs.
I’m not sure where season three will be taking Rebecca, but I’m reasonably optimistic that it will be in a good direction.

AFC Richmond as Boyfriends Pt. 2
Alright, when I did the AFC Richmond as Boyfriends Headcanon I left out Colin Hughes and Moe Bumbercatch mainly because I ship them together (#BumberHughes) but I also seem to have left out Thierry Zoreaux. So here we are.
A/N: I also did one for our favorite staffers:  AFC Richmond Staff as partners
(I also seem to have forgotten Trent Crimm, Independent so he’ll be here too)
Colin Hughes
Drake is always playing at home
and he is always ALWAYS singing along
talking about his family is a bit of a sore subject so you don’t bring it up
after all, his nana left him a box of her shit in her will, that’s rough
when he’s feeling particularly down about his familial situation, everyone works together to cheer him up and remind him he has a family, the family he chose and that chose him.
never drive with him in his Lambo, it’s way too much car for him. Once all you saw was a bright green flash pass you on the road and you fucking knew it was him.
Moe Bumbercatch:
You love the man, you really do but he’s like a crow when he sees something shiny, he HAS to go see what it is
Hes a little shit (affectionate)
He is an incredibly loyal boyfriend; you’ve received a number of texts from his teammates telling you either how much Moe misses you or how expertly he got away from someone who was either too handsy or too flirtatious.
And then there’s the drunk texts he sends you, they’re really something else. They range from the raunchiest thing you can think of the sweetest, most incoherent nonsense.
Moe is incredibly open about what he’s thinking and feeling, the communication is the foundation of your relationship.
There is yarn in almost every room of the flat.
and so. many. knitted. blankets.
Thierry Zoreaux
He’s always teasing you whenever you slip up and mispronounce his first or last name
He almost cried when he found out you were learning French, specifically the French-Canadian dialect for him.
Those bright red yeezy’s will be the death of you, they’re so bright it’s like staring at a glowing stop sign
This man is 6′3 and he is petty as shit; whenever you have a fight or disagreement, he puts things he knows you’ll need on higher shelves.
He will make short jokes to anyone shorter than 5′10 *specifically Richard*
Thierry is a cuddler. He likes to cuddle and be cuddled. Sometimes he even wants to be the little spoon
It’s a constant fight to find everything because he’s terrible at putting things back where they go
I mean it he has the worst habit of carrying things to other rooms and leaving them there
but you love him anyway.
after all, he puts up with your own habits
Trent Crimm, Independent
this is a man who loves laying his head in your lap while you’re doing something so you’ll play with his hair
he tends to slip into reporter mode at random and you have to nudge him and remind him ‘hey, this isn’t a press conference, it’s a friendly get together’
you both have your own intricate hair care routines that are not to be messed with
Sometimes after long days of work, you’ll just lay in bed together in silence and hold each other
your drains are a nightmare
Ted Lasso was incredibly surprised at first to learn you and Trent were dating. Trent was a hardass reporter who called Ted a fucking joke and you were a photographer who often wrote profiles on people after genuinely getting to know him.
Ted gleefully refers to you both as the Sonny and Cher of reporting
You quit working for the Independent when you were asked to do a slam piece on Trent for revealing an anonymous source.
There have been many people who wonder how your relationship works with your different personalities, but in reality, it just works.
Colin Hughes and Moe Bumbercatch's Relationship
They keep it hidden for a bit as they adjust to it and get comfortable
Moe is the driver. No exceptions.
When they (nervously) announced they were dating, Jan was the only one who wasn't surprised. He just knew and kept his mouth shut.
For their 1 year anniversary, Moe surprised Colin with a Welsh corgi puppy he lovingly named Colin Bumbercatch. Everyone usually just calls him Corgi Colin though.
With Corgi Collin being introduced, they joking began calling Hughes Human Colin or the Other Colin
After a huge win they got so excited that they kissed on the pitch!
And nobody stopped cheering, the spectators might've even cheered louder. That was how the country found out.
Colin ignored the slew of texts from his family as they were all just awful.
Colin was glad everyone important accepted him and he accepted himself.
They have movie nights every week, sometimes alone, sometimes with the team.
Shortly after their pitch kiss, the team began wearing pride bands on their arms and if you were stupid enough to mess with Colin and Moe, you messed with ALL of Richmond.
